Triptyque and Carnet de Passage
The triptyque (and the ATA carnet de passage) is a customs document that allows a vehicle into another country on temporary entry without paying full import duties, on condition that it leaves within a set period.
When do you need it?
- When you travel with your car to another country and intend to return with it.
- When you cross a country with your vehicle on the way to a third destination.
- When a vehicle enters for a temporary purpose: an exhibition, a project or an assignment.
What do we handle?
- Reviewing the destination country’s requirements before departure — they differ from one country to another.
- Preparing the vehicle’s file: ownership, inspection, insurance and specifications.
- Following up the issue of the document with the competent body.
- Guiding you on the validity period and exit conditions, so you do not incur fines.
Mistakes that recur
- Preparing the document after the vehicle has arrived — the car then waits at the port and storage charges build up. Prepare it before shipping.
- Overstaying the temporary-entry period without an extension.
- Vehicle details in the documents that differ from the chassis plate.
- Assuming the triptyque replaces insurance — the two are separate.
An important note
The triptyque is not a substitute for customs clearance when the intention is permanent import. Tell us why the vehicle is entering, and we will point you to the right route — a mistake here is costly.
