Who ships from Saudi Arabia to the UAE, and what do they ship?

The route between the Kingdom and the UAE is the busiest land-freight lane in the Gulf, with thousands of trucks using it every week. Six kinds of shipper rely on it, and each has a transport method that suits it better than the others. Knowing where you stand among them saves half the questions before booking.

Shipper What they ship Best method
An employee whose job has moved to Dubai or Abu Dhabi Home furniture and appliances Dedicated closed truck
A family moving some of its belongings A bedroom, a sitting room, cartons Shared truck
A car owner A car to export or sell there Open or enclosed car carrier
A Saudi factory or supplier Building materials, foodstuffs, plastic and paper products Full trailer, refrigerated for food
An online shop Orders for customers in the UAE Weekly land consolidation, or air
A student, resident or visitor Suitcases, cartons and gifts Shared land freight, or air for light items

Services of a shipping company from Saudi Arabia to the UAE

On this route we offer seven services that cover everything moved between the two countries, from an envelope of documents to a trailer of goods. You order only what you need: transport alone, or transport with dismantling, packing, clearance and reassembly. They are:

  • Scheduled land freight: closed trucks leaving for the border daily, dedicated or shared.
  • International furniture removals: dismantling and packing in your home in the Kingdom, unloading and reassembly in your home in the UAE.
  • Car shipping: saloons, four-wheel drives and luxury cars, on an open carrier or inside an enclosed one, with the export certificate completed.
  • Commercial cargo: by the pallet or by the trailer, standard, refrigerated and flatbed, with its invoice and certificate of origin.
  • Parcels and luggage: cartons and suitcases by the piece or by weight.
  • Air freight: for documents, samples and spare parts, from Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam airports.
  • Clearance and storage: completing the formalities at both border posts, and holding the shipment for some days if the delivery address is not ready.

Each service is explained on the shipping services page, and the destination itself on the shipping to the UAE page.

Shipping methods from Saudi Arabia to the UAE and how long each takes

Land freight is the main method and carries most of what is shipped between the two countries. The reason is that the border is shared and the road is a fast dual carriageway from start to finish, so no port and no ship are needed. Air serves light, urgent items only. The times below are counted from the sender’s door to the consignee’s door:

Method Door-to-door time Suits
Dedicated closed truck 1–6 days depending on the city of departure A whole home, goods that fill the truck
Shared truck 4–10 days A room, cartons, a few pallets
Car carrier 2–6 days Cars of every type
Refrigerated truck 1–4 days Food, dairy and medicines
Air freight 1–2 days Documents, parcels, samples

This is how the land journey breaks down into stages, taking Riyadh as the example because it is where most trucks coming from the west, north and south converge:

Stage What happens Usual time
Collection Dismantling, packing, numbering and loading Half a day to a day
Riyadh → Al Batha About 500 km via Al-Ahsa and Salwa 6–8 hours
The two border posts Saudi export declaration, then clearance and inspection at Al Ghuwaifat Hours to a day
Al Ghuwaifat → the city 350 km to Abu Dhabi, 480 km to Dubai 4–6 hours
Delivery Unloading, checking and reassembly Half a day

What lengthens the journey?

  • A missing paper: the road itself delays no one; all the delay happens in the border yard when the file lacks a document.
  • Peak times at the crossing: in the days before Ramadan, the two Eids and the summer holiday the truck lanes fill up.
  • A restricted item inside the load: a box of medicine or a cosmetic without a permit can hold a whole truck for inspection.
  • Filling the shared truck: it does not leave until its space is booked, and this applies to shared trucks only.
  • Peak-hour bans in Emirati cities: Dubai and Abu Dhabi keep heavy trucks off main roads during rush hours.

Times for other destinations are on the transit times page, and the choice between land, sea and air on the shipping methods comparison page.

Shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to the UAE

Three things set the price: how much of the truck your shipment occupies, how far your city is from the Al Batha crossing, and which services you order with the transport. That is why the figure from Dammam differs from the figure from Jeddah for the same shipment. The table below shows the lowest starting price we have for each item, with the city it starts from:

What you ship Method Price starts from
Parcel up to 5 kg Shared land freight SAR 32
Carton Shared land freight SAR 140
Suitcase Shared land freight SAR 230
Belongings over 50 kg Land freight by weight SAR 4.6 per kilogram
Cubic metre Shared truck SAR 550
A few furniture items Shared truck SAR 690
Pallet of goods Shared truck SAR 740
Bedroom or studio Shared truck, from Riyadh SAR 1,380
Furniture of a two- to three-bedroom flat Dedicated truck, from Riyadh SAR 4,150
Villa furniture Dedicated truck, from Riyadh SAR 8,300
Full trailer of goods From Riyadh SAR 6,450
Car Car carrier, from the Eastern Province SAR 1,100
Air freight By chargeable weight SAR 14 per kilogram
Documents Express SAR 83
Sea container from Dammam For heavy commercial cargo Set on request

Prices quoted in the market: what is published for this route varies widely. A kilogram by land is quoted at SAR 15 to 35, by air at SAR 50 to 90, a small parcel at SAR 50 to 400, and a carton at about SAR 150. A bedroom is offered at SAR 1,200 to 2,500, reaching about SAR 2,730 from Jeddah. The furniture of a small flat runs from SAR 3,000 to 8,000, and electrical appliances from SAR 450 to 1,100. A car is SAR 2,000 to 4,500 with some providers, and SAR 4,000 to 9,000 for a saloon and SAR 9,500 to 13,000 for a four-wheel drive with others. Always compare what the figure includes, not the figure alone: does it cover packing, clearance and delivery to the address, or transport only?

Factor Effect on the price
Volume in cubic metres The first thing asked. You can estimate it with the CBM calculator
City of departure The Eastern Province is the cheapest region, then Riyadh, then the western, northern and southern cities
Destination emirate Abu Dhabi is at the start of the road, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah at its end
Dedicated or shared A dedicated truck is priced per truck, a shared one by the space you occupy
Vehicle type Standard closed, refrigerated, flatbed for equipment, or car carrier
Accompanying services Dismantling, packing, clearance, reassembly and storage, each shown as its own line

How do you lower the cost?

  • If your date is not tight, ask for the shared truck, which splits the road charge among several shippers.
  • For Saudi-made goods, obtain the certificate of origin before loading; it saves you the whole 5% duty.
  • Sort your home before the move. A large, low-value piece takes up cubic metres worth more than the piece.
  • Send everything in one trip, because a small second shipment pays its minimum charge all over again.
  • Stay away from the peak weeks if you can, as demand then pushes truck rates up.

The remaining factors are explained on the pricing factors page.

Shipping to the UAE from the cities of the Kingdom

Every truck bound for the UAE ends up on one road: Al-Ahsa, then Salwa, then Al Batha. The difference between one city and another is the distance before that road, and that is what makes the difference in time and price. From distant cities we bring small shipments to a nearby hub and then add them to the line truck. Here is a summary of the main cities:

City of departure Road to the crossing Full-truck time Airport for air freight
Riyadh East to Al-Ahsa and Salwa, about 500 km to Al Batha 2–4 days King Khalid International
Dammam, Khobar and Jubail South to Al-Ahsa and Salwa; the closest major cities to the crossing 1–3 days King Fahd International
Al-Ahsa On the road to the crossing itself 1–2 days King Fahd International
Jeddah Taif then Riyadh, about 950 km, then the eastern road 4–6 days King Abdulaziz International
Makkah Taif then Riyadh, about 870 km, then the eastern road 4–6 days Via Jeddah airport
Madinah Qassim then Riyadh, about 850 km, then the eastern road 4–6 days Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International
Qassim and Hail South to Riyadh, then east 3–5 days Via Riyadh airport
Tabuk and Al-Jouf Brought to Riyadh or Madinah, then moved on 5–8 days Via Riyadh or Jeddah
Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran To Riyadh via Wadi ad-Dawasir, or brought to Jeddah 5–8 days Via Riyadh or Jeddah

Prices follow the cities in the same order. The next table sets the figures of our priced cities side by side, all of them starting prices:

City of departure Carton Bedroom Flat furniture Car
Dammam and the Eastern Province SAR 140 SAR 1,380 SAR 4,150 SAR 1,100
Riyadh SAR 140 SAR 1,380 SAR 4,150 SAR 1,650

Riyadh: the city that ships most to the UAE, with a shared truck leaving on most days of the week. Every district is served from the address, along with Al-Kharj, Diriyah and Al-Muzahimiyah. Details are in the article international shipping company in Riyadh.

Dammam, Khobar, Jubail and Al-Ahsa: the Eastern Province is the closest to the crossing, so its transit time is the shortest and its car price the lowest. Goods from the factories of Jubail and the industrial cities of Dammam leave in full trailers straight for Jebel Ali and Musaffah.

Jeddah and Makkah: the truck crosses the Kingdom from west to east, about two thousand kilometres as far as Dubai. Packing therefore gets extra care here, and urgent items fly from King Abdulaziz Airport. The luggage of Umrah and Hajj pilgrims returning to the UAE is a familiar shipment from both cities.

Madinah: its road to Riyadh passes through Qassim, so shipments from Al-Hanakiyah and Qassim are loaded on the same trip. Dates and visitors’ luggage are shipped from here, and it has its own international airport for air freight.

Qassim, Hail, Tabuk, Abha and Jazan: a full load leaves straight from your door. A small one is first moved to the nearest consolidation hub and then boards the truck bound for Al Batha, and its price is worked out on that basis on request.

The full list of cities is on the service cities page.

Land freight through the Al Batha crossing: a dedicated or a shared truck?

Land freight means your shipment stays on wheels from your door to the consignee’s door, with no port and no reloading. The only question is whether you take the whole truck or part of it. The answer depends first on the size of the shipment, then on how urgent it is.

Land freight from Saudi Arabia to the UAE
Point of comparison Dedicated truck Shared truck
How it is charged The hire of the whole truck By the cubic metre or by the piece
Departure day Loading day itself When the truck’s space has been booked
Number of handlings One loading and one unloading Passes through a consolidation warehouse at each end
Seal Sealed at your door and opened at the consignee’s Opened at each delivery
For whom A whole home, goods exceeding half the truck A room, cartons, a pallet or two

Trucks mostly come in three sizes: a light truck that takes one or two rooms, a medium truck for a flat, and a trailer about 13 metres long for a large home or palletised goods. We choose the size once we know the volume of the shipment, so that you do not pay for empty space.

Special loads have their own vehicles: a refrigerated truck with a temperature log for food and medicines, a flatbed for equipment and building materials, and a curtain-sider for pallets loaded by forklift. The service is detailed on the land freight page.

Shipping furniture and household goods from Saudi Arabia to the UAE

Movers’ furniture is what we carry most to the UAE, and most of it goes to flats in towers. That imposes two things you do not meet in a move within a city: packing that withstands a long, dusty desert road, and an inventory that the customs officer reads line by line. The work runs in this order:

  • Survey: we visit the home or receive photos and a list, then settle the volume, the truck size and the number of workers.
  • Dismantling: a carpenter takes apart bedrooms, wardrobes and tables, and collects each piece’s screws in a bag bearing its number.
  • Packing: plastic wrap and blankets for wood and sofas, double-wall cartons for crockery and books, and wooden crates for marble, glass and screens.
  • Numbering and inventory: every piece and every carton has a number, and the numbers go into a list in Arabic and English.
  • Loading: heavy items at the bottom and fragile ones on top, with lashing straps between one row and the next.
  • Reassembly: in the new home the pieces are put back as they were, and the packing waste is taken away.

Before reaching the tower: tower managements in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah ask a new resident for three things: a move-in permit, a service-lift booking, and compliance with unloading hours. Request them at least two days before the truck arrives. And measure the flat door and the lift, because nobody can solve a sofa that will not fit the lift on the twentieth floor.

The full service is on the furniture shipping page, and the packing materials and how they are used in the packing guide.

Car shipping from Saudi Arabia to the UAE

The car travels on a car carrier and is not driven, so it arrives with its odometer and tyres as they were handed over. An open carrier takes several cars and is the cheaper option, while an enclosed carrier for a single car protects it from dust and gravel and suits luxury and classic cars. Before loading, the car is inspected and photographed from every side and a condition report is signed.

Car shipping from Saudi Arabia to the UAE
Method Price starts from Suits
Carrier from the Eastern Province SAR 1,100 The shortest distance to the crossing
Open carrier from Riyadh, saloon SAR 1,650 Ordinary cars
Open carrier from Riyadh, four-wheel drive SAR 2,000 Large and family cars
Enclosed carrier for one car from Riyadh SAR 2,750 Luxury, sports and classic cars
Open carrier from Jeddah, Makkah or Madinah, saloon SAR 2,350 The western cities
Motorcycle Set on request On a base inside a closed truck

Preparing the car for loading day:

  • Leave about a quarter of a tank; anything more is weight for nothing.
  • Empty the cabin and the boot of every personal item, since customs inspects the car empty.
  • Switch off the alarm, hand over one key and keep the spare with you.
  • Tell us in advance about any change to height or width, as it alters the car’s position on the carrier.

Anyone travelling in their Saudi car as a visitor does not export it at all. They enter through the crossing on its own plates, and insurance that covers the UAE is enough. The general export rules are in the article car shipping from Saudi Arabia, and our service on the car shipping page.

Car documents and registration in the UAE

Exporting a car involves two sides: the traffic department in the Kingdom, then customs and the licensing authority in the emirate where it will be registered. We complete the Saudi papers with you before loading, and the Emirati papers are completed by the owner or their agent after arrival. The order is as follows:

Stage What is required Note
Before export Fines paid, and the car free of any lien A financed car needs a no-objection letter from the finance provider
At the traffic department Export certificate and handing in the plates Issued in the name of the owner on the registration card
At Al Ghuwaifat 5% duty on the assessed value, then 5% tax The vehicle clearance certificate is issued afterwards
In the emirate Technical inspection and local insurance The chassis number is matched against all the documents
Registration Emirates ID and a valid residence permit Plates are issued in the owner’s name

The age rule: the practice in the UAE is that a used car to be registered should be no more than ten years from its year of manufacture, with special treatment for classic cars. This rule is revised from time to time, so we confirm what is in force before shipping. Both countries drive on the right with the wheel on the left, so the car needs no conversion. A car with flood or write-off history may be refused at registration.

Shipping parcels and personal effects to the UAE

A carton, a suitcase and a small parcel travel in the shared truck and are priced by the piece or by weight. A parcel of up to 5 kg starts from SAR 32, a carton from SAR 140 and a suitcase from SAR 230. Once the weight passes 50 kg the charge runs from SAR 4.6 per kilogram.

  • For students and residents: cartons of books and clothes are closed with wide tape and marked with the consignee’s name, Emirati number and emirate.
  • For pilgrims and visitors: we collect excess bags from the hotel in Makkah, Madinah or Jeddah before your flight.
  • For shops: the week’s orders are gathered into one shipment, which lowers each parcel’s share of the charge.
  • What does not go in the carton: cash, gold, a passport, original documents, medicines and loose batteries.

Urgent parcels switch to air, and the two options are compared on the parcel shipping page.

Shipping commercial goods and the free zones

Commercial goods differ from personal effects in that customs asks about three things: their value, their origin and who is importing them. If the product is Saudi-made and has a certificate of origin, it enters duty-free. If the importer is in a free zone, the goods enter under that zone’s regime and duty is collected only when they leave for the local market.

Goods Vehicle What they need
General goods on pallets Closed or curtain-sider, a pallet from SAR 740 Invoice, packing list and certificate of origin
A load that fills a trailer Full trailer from SAR 6,450 out of Riyadh Export declaration and importer code
Foodstuffs, dairy and dates Refrigerated or ventilated Health certificate and an Arabic product label
Building materials, steel and equipment Flatbed with lashing and covering A statement of weights and dimensions
New electrical appliances Closed Conformity certificate according to the item

The commercial consignee in the UAE needs a valid trade licence and an importer code with customs. We write the tariff line of each item on the invoice, because a wrong line changes the duty and delays release. Recurring contracts get a fixed loading schedule and a price agreed in advance. The service is on the commercial shipping page.

Shipping electrical appliances and sensitive items

Appliances and fragile pieces are not damaged by the length of the road but by vibration, heat and dust. Each type has its own protection. A screen, for instance, is not carried lying flat, and a fridge is not switched on the moment it arrives. The table sums up what we do with each item:

Item The risk to it Protection
Screens and televisions Pressure on the panel Original carton or a wooden crate, loaded upright
Fridges and washing machines Vibration of the compressor and drum Emptied, dried and moving parts secured, with a wait of some hours before switching on
Air conditioners Gas leakage and bent fins Technical removal, capped pipes and a reinforced carton
Computers and servers Shock and static electricity Anti-static bags and cut-to-shape foam
Glass, marble and mirrors Breaking at the first bump A padded wooden crate, carried on edge
Paintings and antiques Scratching and damp Acid-free paper, then a closed crate

The mains voltage in the UAE is 220–240 volts, as in most homes in the Kingdom, and the common socket is the square three-pin type. So your appliances work there, and some may need only a plug adaptor. Lashing methods inside the truck are on the packing and lashing page.

Emirati customs and clearance at the two border posts

Every truck passes two stations in succession: Al Batha, where the Saudi export declaration is closed, then Al Ghuwaifat, where the shipment is classified, inspected and charged. Both countries are members of the Gulf customs union, so the rules are the same at root. These are the main ones for anyone shipping from the Kingdom:

Item Rule in practice
General customs duty 5% of the value of the goods with their freight and insurance
Value added tax 5% on imports
Product of Gulf origin Exempt from duty with a certificate of origin
Foreign goods whose duty was paid on entering the Gulf Duty is not repeated if payment is proven by documents
A mover’s used furniture and belongings Mostly exempt, with an inventory and the consignee’s residence permit
New items in their cartons among the furniture Treated as merchandise
Inspection Any shipment may be opened, and the owner or an agent may be asked to attend

Note: the certificate of origin is a paper obtained while the goods are still in the warehouse. A truck that reaches the crossing without it has its goods counted as foreign, and pays a duty that could have been avoided. The broker’s authorisation is the same: it is issued electronically before the truck arrives, not in the yard.

The rules of all six states are gathered in the article shipping from Saudi Arabia to the Gulf states, our service is on the customs clearance page, and details of the crossings on the ports and gateways page.

Documents required for shipping to the UAE

A complete file is what gets the truck across in hours. Little is required, but it differs between personal furniture, goods and a car. We review your file before loading day and tell you what is missing while you can still obtain it.

Type of shipment Documents
Furniture and personal effects Sender’s ID or residence permit, an inventory in two languages, the consignee’s Emirati residence permit or ID, the broker’s authorisation
Parcels for individuals A description of the contents and their value, and the consignee’s name, mobile number and address
Commercial goods Commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, commercial registration, export declaration, importer code
Food, medicines and cosmetics The above, plus the health certificate and the permit of the competent Emirati authority
Car Registration card, export certificate, owner’s ID, and the no-objection letter if it is financed
Shipments for embassies and official bodies A letter from the body, a statement of contents, and proof of exemption where there is one

A template of each document and how to fill it in is on the shipping documents page.

What cannot be shipped to the UAE or needs a permit

Prohibited items fall into two groups: what never enters, and what enters with the approval of a competent authority. The second group is the one that lands people in delays, because the owner thinks it ordinary. Tell us everything in the shipment before loading, since taking an item off the list is easier than taking it off a detained truck.

Item Ruling
Narcotics and the like Strictly prohibited
Flammable materials, gases and fireworks Not loaded in general freight
Weapons, ammunition and the like Prohibited
Counterfeit goods Confiscated, and the owner is fined
Medicines Personal with a prescription and a limited quantity, commercial with a health permit
Cosmetics and food supplements Commercial quantities with prior registration
Drones and wireless devices With the regulator’s approval
Plants, seeds and offshoots With a phytosanitary certificate
Cash, gold and original documents Not placed in the shipment; they stay with the owner
Zamzam water Not shipped with goods

The full list with its exceptions is on the prohibited items page.

Delivery in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the other emirates

We deliver in all seven emirates to the address, and do not ask you to come to a warehouse. After Al Ghuwaifat the truck passes through Al Dhafra, then Abu Dhabi, then Dubai, then Sharjah and the Northern Emirates. So the further north or east your emirate lies, the more hours on the road. On delivery we unload, reassemble and check the pieces against the numbered list.

Delivery in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah
City Distance from Al Ghuwaifat What to allow for on delivery
Abu Dhabi About 350 km Islands and towers ask for a truck entry permit; Musaffah for goods
Al Ain About 480 km Villas and single-storey houses, with direct unloading
Dubai About 480 km Service-lift booking in towers; Jebel Ali and Al Quoz for goods
Sharjah and Ajman 500–520 km Delivery outside rush hours; the industrial areas for warehouses
Umm Al Quwain About 540 km On the Sharjah day or the one after
Ras Al Khaimah About 590 km The day after crossing
Fujairah, Khor Fakkan and Kalba About 600 km A mountain road to the east coast

Dubai: the most requested destination. Furniture goes to the towers of the Marina, Al Barsha and Downtown and to the villas of the suburbs, and goods to Jebel Ali, Al Quoz and Ras Al Khor. Abu Dhabi: the first major city after the crossing, and the destination for cars, heavy furniture and goods for Musaffah and the free zones. Sharjah: the destination for warehouses and wholesale goods, and home to many who work in Dubai. Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah: family belongings and parcels, which we deliver on one round with the Northern Emirates shipments.

Shipping for individuals, companies, government bodies and embassies

The truck is the same, but what each client asks of it differs. An individual wants their furniture intact and reassembled. A company wants a fixed date and a correct invoice. An official body wants confidentiality and documentation. So we arrange the service around its owner:

Client What they mostly ship What we arrange for them
Individuals and families Furniture, home appliances, a car, belongings Dismantling, packing and reassembly, and temporary storage if the home handover is late
Companies and factories Stock, products, equipment, spare parts A recurring contract at a fixed price, and a report on each shipment
Government bodies Office furniture, technical and medical devices, printed matter A sealed truck that is not shared, a signed handover record, and adherence to a set date
Embassies and consulates Diplomats’ belongings and mission furniture Coordinating the exemption papers with the mission before loading, and delivery to whoever it names

Diplomatic exemption is not granted at the crossing of its own accord. The competent authority issues it on the strength of the mission’s letter, and we attach it to the file before the truck moves. The diplomatic bag itself has its own official channels and is not part of commercial freight.

Is sea freight from Saudi Arabia to the UAE suitable?

For individuals, no; for heavy goods, sometimes. From Jeddah Islamic Port the ship sails south down the Red Sea, then rounds Yemen and Oman to enter the Gulf, taking several times as long as the truck. From King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam to Jebel Ali or Khalifa Port the voyage is short, but it adds handling in two ports and a sea clearance.

The sea therefore remains an option for heavy commercial containers and equipment that exceeds road limits, with the price set on request. For furniture, cars and parcels the truck is faster, involves less handling and costs less. Container details are on the sea freight page.

Air freight from Saudi Arabia to the UAE

Air freight is for urgent parcels and documents, arriving in one to two days with delivery to the address. Between the Kingdom’s airports and those of Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah there are many flights every day, and the flying time is under two hours from Riyadh and Dammam and about three hours from Jeddah. The price starts from SAR 14 per kilogram, and express documents from SAR 83.

From which airport? From King Khalid Airport in Riyadh, King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah and King Fahd Airport in Dammam. From Madinah through its international airport, and from Makkah through Jeddah airport. Shipments from other cities are moved by road to the nearest of these airports the same day or the next.

Chargeable weight: the airline compares the parcel’s weight on the scale with its volumetric weight and takes the higher. So a light, bulky parcel is charged by its size. Try your figures in the volumetric weight calculator. Our service is on the air freight page, and for the very urgent there is the article express international shipping.

Door to door, and temporary storage

Door-to-door service means you deal with one party in both countries. We collect from inside your home or warehouse, complete the papers at both border posts, and deliver inside the address in the UAE. You need neither a broker of your own nor a local carrier there.

It happens that the shipment is ready before the new home is. We then keep it in a closed warehouse in the Kingdom until you give us the handover date, so the truck does not stand outside a tower whose keys have not been released. Storage terms and periods are on the storage page, and the stages of the service on the door to door page.

Steps for shipping from Saudi Arabia to the UAE

Eight steps from the first message to signing for delivery. Most are ours, and three are yours: describing the shipment accurately, preparing your papers, and telling the consignee when it will arrive.

  1. Request: you send your city in the Kingdom, the destination emirate, and what you are shipping with photos or a list.
  2. Price and date: you receive the itemised price and the nearest loading day.
  3. Paper check: we match your ID, the consignee’s residence permit and the invoices, and issue the clearance authorisation.
  4. Collection: the team arrives, dismantles, packs, numbers and writes the list.
  5. Loading: the shipment is arranged and secured, and the truck is sealed if it is dedicated to you.
  6. Crossing: the export declaration at Al Batha, then clearance and charges at Al Ghuwaifat.
  7. Onward delivery: from the crossing to your emirate, with the arrival hour agreed with the consignee or the building management.
  8. Handover: unloading and reassembly, then checking the numbers against the list and signing.

Tracking and insuring the shipment

The journey is short, yet you know where your shipment is at every stage of it. A notification reaches you at four points: the truck leaving your city, entering the Al Batha yard, leaving Al Ghuwaifat, and setting off for the consignee’s address. On delivery day the driver’s number comes with it.

  • Tracking: by shipment number over WhatsApp or from the track your shipment page.
  • Record: photos of the pieces before packing, and a photo of the truck after closing, are kept by you and by us.
  • Insurance: optional, with a premium that is a percentage of the value you yourself declare. We recommend it for a car, valuable furniture and appliances. Its terms are on the cargo insurance page.
  • Remarks on delivery: write any scratch or shortage on the delivery record itself before the team leaves.

Shipping from the UAE to Saudi Arabia

The route works in both directions with the same trucks. We collect from your address in any emirate, cross Al Ghuwaifat and then Al Batha, and deliver in any Saudi city. A citizen or resident returning to the Kingdom brings in used belongings with an inventory. Goods of Emirati origin are exempt from duty with their certificate, and everything else is subject to the Kingdom’s tariff and tax according to its type. A car coming from the UAE must meet the Kingdom’s rules on age and specifications, and we go through them with you before you buy it.

Tips before shipping to the UAE

Here are seven practical tips drawn from daily work on this route. Most cost you nothing, and each one prevents a delay or an expense we have seen recur:

  • Write your list in detail: “a dining table and six chairs”, not “dining-room furniture”.
  • Sort your belongings into three: fragile, heavy and valuable, and tell the team before they start.
  • Ask the consignee for a copy of their Emirati residence permit or ID before loading, not after.
  • Keep the invoices of new appliances, as customs assesses their value from them.
  • Do not set the shipping day on the last day of your tenancy; leave two days in reserve.
  • Insure whatever you could not bear to lose, even if it is a single piece.
  • Ask for the all-in price to the consignee’s door, since that is the one fit for comparison.

How do you choose a shipping company from Saudi Arabia to the UAE?

The route is short and easy, which is why so many providers offer it. You can tell them apart with six questions asked before you pay a deposit. A clear answer is a sign of experience, and a vague one a sign that the details will surface at the crossing:

Ask about A reassuring answer A warning answer
Status of the business A commercial registration you can verify yourself A social page and a mobile number, nothing more
Price breakdown Transport, packing, clearance and reassembly, each with its figure A lump sum that “covers everything”
Type of truck A closed box sealed in front of you An open flatbed under a tarpaulin
Inventory A numbered list in two copies with two signatures Quick loading with no count
Customs Explains what is exempt and what is charged “You pay nothing at the border”
End of the service Inside your home in the UAE, with reassembly “You collect it from our warehouse in Sharjah”

Common mistakes when shipping from Saudi Arabia to the UAE

  • Sending a Saudi product without a certificate of origin, so that a duty it was exempt from is collected.
  • The truck reaching the tower before the move-in permit is obtained and the lift booked.
  • Buying a car for export without checking its year of manufacture and accident record.
  • Slipping medicines, cosmetics or a drone in among the furniture without declaring them.
  • Mixing new and used items in one list without distinction, so the whole shipment is treated as merchandise.
  • Choosing an open truck for furniture that will cover hundreds of kilometres of desert.
  • Paying the air rate for a heavy shipment that a truck delivers in two or three days.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Saudi Arabia to the UAE

How much does shipping from Saudi Arabia to the UAE cost?

Our lowest starting points are SAR 32 for a parcel of up to 5 kg, SAR 140 for a carton and SAR 550 for a cubic metre in a shared truck. A bedroom starts from SAR 1,380 out of Riyadh, a flat’s furniture from SAR 4,150, a car from SAR 1,100 out of the Eastern Province and SAR 1,650 out of Riyadh, and a full trailer from SAR 6,450. The western cities cost more because the road is longer: a bedroom with a sitting room from SAR 1,850 and a car from SAR 2,350. Message us on 0552803439 with your city and what you are sending to get your own figure.

How many days does shipping from Saudi Arabia to the UAE take?

It comes down to the city of departure. A full truck from Dammam or Al-Ahsa delivers in one to three days, from Riyadh in two to four, from Qassim in three to five, and from Jeddah in four to six days. A shared truck adds days because it waits for its load to be completed, so it arrives in four to ten days. An air parcel is delivered the next day or the day after.

Which border post does the truck use to enter the UAE?

Al Batha, south-east of Al-Ahsa, and there is no other land crossing between the two countries. Facing it on the Emirati side is Al Ghuwaifat, which belongs to the emirate of Abu Dhabi, and from there the coastal road runs to Abu Dhabi, then Dubai and the Northern Emirates.

Is customs duty charged on used furniture entering the UAE?

The furniture of someone moving to take up residence, and the belongings they have used, are in most cases exempted from duty by the unified Gulf customs law. The conditions are that they are genuinely used, that a detailed inventory travels with them, and that the consignee holds a valid Emirati residence permit or ID. A new item still in its carton counts as merchandise and pays 5% duty and the same again in tax.

What are the customs duties on goods in the UAE?

The general duty is 5%, worked out on the price of the goods plus freight and insurance, with 5% value added tax on top. A product of Saudi or Gulf origin is free of the duty when a valid certificate of origin accompanies it. Some items carry their own rates, so we check each item’s tariff line before loading.

How much does it cost to ship a car from Saudi Arabia to the UAE?

On a car carrier: from SAR 1,100 out of Dammam and the Eastern Province, from SAR 1,650 for a saloon out of Riyadh and SAR 2,000 for a four-wheel drive, and from SAR 2,350 for a saloon on an open carrier out of Jeddah, Makkah and Madinah. An enclosed carrier for a single car starts from SAR 2,750 out of Riyadh.

What are the conditions for bringing a Saudi car into the UAE and registering it?

In the Kingdom: paying the traffic fines, a no-objection letter if the car is financed, then an export certificate from the traffic department and handing in the plates. In the UAE: 5% duty on the value assessed by customs and 5% tax, then the vehicle clearance certificate, a technical inspection, insurance and plates. The practice is that a car to be registered should be no more than ten years old, with an exception for classics, and we confirm the rule in force before the car moves.

Should I take a dedicated truck or a shared load?

Volume and timing decide it. A whole home, or goods that fill more than half the truck: take the truck for yourself, since it leaves on loading day and is not opened until your door. A room, a few cartons or two pallets: the shared truck is cheaper, you pay only for your cubic metres and accept waiting a few days.

Do you deliver to all the emirates?

Yes, to all seven: Abu Dhabi with Al Ain and Al Dhafra, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah with the east-coast towns. Delivery is to the address itself, whether a tower, a villa, a warehouse or a free zone.

Which Saudi cities do you collect from?

From every region of the Kingdom. Shipments in Riyadh, Jeddah, Makkah, Madinah, Dammam and Khobar are collected straight from the address. Shipments in Qassim, Hail, Tabuk, Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, Najran, Taif and Yanbu are brought to our nearest hub and then join the truck heading east.

Which documents do I need?

For furniture and belongings: the sender’s ID or residence permit, an inventory, and a copy of the consignee’s Emirati residence permit or ID. For goods: a commercial invoice, a packing list, a certificate of origin, a commercial registration and the importer code in the UAE. For a car: the registration card, the export certificate and the owner’s ID. In every case an electronic authorisation for the customs broker is required.

What cannot be shipped to the UAE?

We do not carry flammable materials, compressed gases, counterfeits or weapons. Medicines enter only as a personal quantity with a prescription, and commercial quantities need a permit. Drones, wireless devices, plants and seeds all need prior approval from the competent Emirati authority.

Is air freight to the UAE better than land freight?

For anything carried by hand and expected tomorrow, yes: a document, a sample, a spare part, a phone. It starts from SAR 14 per kilogram, and express documents from SAR 83. Anything above fifty kilograms is delivered by truck within a few days at a fraction of the cost, because the road to the UAE is short to begin with.

Is there sea freight from Saudi Arabia to the UAE?

There is, but it is not the option for individuals. From Jeddah the ship sails round the whole Arabian Peninsula, so the truck beats it by many days. From Dammam port to Jebel Ali the voyage is short and suits heavy commercial containers and equipment, with the price set on request.

Do you ship from the UAE to Saudi Arabia?

Yes, through the same crossing in the opposite direction. We collect from your address in any emirate, clear at Al Ghuwaifat and then Al Batha, and deliver in your city in the Kingdom. A returnee’s used belongings enter with an inventory, and commercial goods are treated according to their origin and type.
