Who ships a car from Riyadh to the UAE?
Most of our callers are employees transferred from a Riyadh office to one in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, who want the car to get there ahead of them or follow a few days later. Next come people who sold their car to a buyer in the UAE, or bought one from Riyadh’s showrooms while living there. Then there are the dealers sending batches, and owners of sports and classic cars heading to an event or an auction.
Each of them needs a different carrier and a different procedure at the border. The table sums up what we arrange in each case.
| Car owner | Situation | What we arrange |
|---|---|---|
| Employee relocating for work | The family car, permanent export | Shared open carrier with an export certificate |
| Seller or buyer | A car sold to a UAE resident | Export in the buyer’s name and delivery at the testing centre |
| Car showroom | A batch of several cars | A full carrier at a batch price |
| Owner of a luxury or classic car | A high-value car | Enclosed carrier and insurance at the declared value |
| Participant in an event or trip | Temporary entry, then return | Outbound and return shipping on Saudi plates |
| Motorcycle enthusiast | One motorcycle or more | A wheel chock inside an enclosed carrier |
The land route from Riyadh to the UAE via the Batha crossing
The carrier leaves south-east Riyadh for Al-Kharj, then follows Route 10 to Haradh. After Haradh comes a dead-straight stretch of about 240 km along the edge of the Empty Quarter up to the Batha crossing. This is the shortest road, and the Hofuf and Salwa route remains an alternative when the carrier is collecting cars from Al-Ahsa.
After Batha the carrier enters Al Ghuwaifat in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, then takes the coastal road past Ruwais and Mirfa to Abu Dhabi city, and on to Dubai and the Northern Emirates. The car crosses no third country on this route, so it is cleared only twice: Saudi export, then UAE entry.

| Stage | What happens | Usual time |
|---|---|---|
| Collection from the district | Inspection, photos and a condition report, then transfer to the loading yard | Two hours to half a day |
| Riyadh → Al-Kharj → Haradh | About 260 km of dual carriageway | 3–4 hours |
| Haradh → Batha | About 240 km in a straight line | 3 hours |
| Batha and Al Ghuwaifat | Export declaration, then UAE inspection and clearance | Hours to a day |
| Al Ghuwaifat → Abu Dhabi → Dubai | 350 km to Abu Dhabi and 480 km to Dubai | 4–6 hours |
| Delivery | Unloading and checking against the collection report | One hour |
Car shipping time by carrier type
The actual driving between Riyadh and Dubai is no more than a day for a professional driver. What makes the difference is the wait for the carrier to fill in Riyadh, the hours spent at the two border posts, and the number of drop-off points inside the UAE. So the duration changes with the carrier you choose, not with the road.
| Carrier | Door-to-door time | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Shared open carrier | 2–4 days | Waits for a full load and unloads in more than one city |
| Enclosed | 2–3 days | One or two cars and a fixed departure date |
| Flatbed dedicated to one car | 1–2 days | Leaves as soon as it is loaded, for one address |
| Air | 2–4 days with booking and clearance | The flight is two hours; the rest is preparation and formalities |
What lengthens the duration?
- An unpaid traffic fine that surfaces on the day the export certificate is requested.
- A letter from the lender that has not been issued yet.
- Congestion at Batha before holidays and Eids and at the weekend.
- A chassis number in the documents that differs from the one stamped on the car.
- Personal belongings inside the car that call for an extra search.
Car shipping prices from Riyadh to the UAE
The price is worked out per car according to its size and the type of carrier, not per kilogram. The figures below are the starting point for transport from Riyadh as far as Abu Dhabi, and include loading, securing and carriage. UAE customs charges and the export plate fee are paid to their authorities and are not part of the fare.
| Car and carrier | Price starts from | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Saloon or hatchback on a shared open carrier | SAR 1,650 | The economy option |
| 4×4 or pickup on a shared open carrier | SAR 2,000 | Takes more space and weighs more |
| Luxury, sports or classic car inside an enclosed carrier | SAR 2,750 | Full protection from dust and stones |
| Flatbed dedicated to one car | Set on request | Leaves at once with no waiting |
| Motorcycle | Set on request | By number and method of securing |
| Non-running car | Set on request | Needs a winch for loading and unloading |
| Air freight from King Khalid Airport | Set on request | By weight, dimensions and flight |
| Extra for delivery in Ras Al Khaimah or Fujairah | Set on request | By the distance beyond Dubai |
Prices quoted in the market for this route are far apart. We found one advertising car shipping from Riyadh to the UAE at between SAR 2,200 and 4,000, another pricing a flatbed to Dubai at around SAR 2,900, another mentioning group shipping to the Gulf states from SAR 1,500 and a dedicated enclosed carrier from SAR 4,500, and a general range of SAR 2,500 to 6,000. The figures previously published on our own site ran from SAR 2,200 to 3,800. Some adverts open with a very low number that covers neither the border nor delivery, so always ask: what does the price include?
What determines the price of shipping your car?
| Factor | How it affects the price |
|---|---|
| Size and weight of the car | A large 4×4 takes the place of a car and a half on the carrier |
| Type of carrier | An enclosed carrier holds fewer cars, so each car’s share rises |
| Shared or dedicated | With a dedicated one you pay for the whole trip |
| Delivery city | Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah are about 250 km beyond Abu Dhabi |
| Condition of the car | A non-runner needs a winch and extra time |
| Season | Demand rises before summer and the Eids |
| Insured value | The premium follows the declared value |
How do you cut the cost?
- Book a week ahead so that you join a full shared carrier.
- Bring the car to the loading yard yourself if it is close to you.
- Ship two cars together; the second costs less.
- Choose an open carrier for the daily car and keep the enclosed one for what deserves it.
- Avoid the days just before long holidays.
What is different about shipping cars from Riyadh?
Riyadh is the nearest of the Kingdom’s big cities to the UAE after those of the Eastern Province, and it is the largest car market in the country. Car carriers therefore leave it for Batha more often than from any other city, and a car does not wait long for a place on a shared carrier. That is why the Riyadh price is far below the Jeddah or Makkah price on the same route.
On the other hand, a long car carrier does not roam the capital’s districts. Entry for heavy trucks is limited to hours set by the traffic department that change in Ramadan and peak seasons, and some main arteries are closed to them. So we collect your car from home on a small flatbed, or our driver takes it under your authorisation to the loading yard on the edge of the city, where it is lifted onto the carrier.
Many of the cars we ship come straight from the showrooms of east and south Riyadh, or from auctions. In that case we coordinate with the showroom the date for completing the transfer of ownership and the export request, then collect the car from its yard without the buyer travelling from the UAE.
Types of car carrier: open, enclosed and dedicated flatbed
Choosing a carrier is a decision between price, protection and speed. The open one is the cheapest, the enclosed one protects the most, and the dedicated flatbed is the quickest. No carrier is best outright; there is one that suits your car and your date.
| Carrier | Capacity | What sets it apart | For whom |
|---|---|---|---|
| Open multi-car carrier | Up to eight cars on two decks | Lowest price and frequent trips | Everyday cars |
| Enclosed | One or two cars | A sealed box and a tail lift | Luxury, sports and classic cars |
| Covered dedicated flatbed | One car | Door to door with no transfer | Anyone in a hurry or needing a fixed date |
On an open carrier the car faces what it would face if you drove it: sun, dust and the odd flying stone. The difference is that its odometer does not move and its engine does not run. In an enclosed carrier the car is loaded by a horizontal lift instead of a ramp, which is what low cars need when their bumper scrapes on any slope.
Shipping 4x4s and pickup trucks from Riyadh to the UAE
4x4s and pickups are what leaves Riyadh for the UAE most often, because they are the family and desert vehicle in both cities. They are loaded on the open multi-car carrier and placed on the lower deck because of their weight and height. Their price starts from SAR 2,000 because they use up more of the carrier’s length and permitted weight than a saloon.

They are secured at all four wheels with straps that wrap around the tyre itself, not with chains pulled tight to the chassis. That way the suspension stays free to absorb the vibration of the road, and the frame carries no tension it was not designed for. The driver then rechecks the straps after the first 50 km and at every stop.
- Lifted vehicles: send the overall height, as it may need a particular position on the carrier.
- Roof rack and tent: removed, or counted in the height.
- The pickup bed: handed over empty, since a load in it is not covered by the car’s declaration.
- Wide tyres: we use wider straps and larger wheel chocks for them.
Luxury, sports and classic cars and motorcycles
A car whose value lies in its original paint or its rarity does not go on an open carrier. We ship it in an enclosed carrier starting from SAR 2,750, after covering it with a soft fabric cover that does not scratch and protecting the mirrors and protruding edges. The driver starts the engine only for loading and unloading.
| Vehicle | Suitable carrier | What we watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Family saloon | Shared open carrier | Windows closed and mirrors folded |
| 4×4 and pickup | Open, lower deck | Overall height and weight |
| Luxury and VIP cars | Enclosed | Soft cover and insurance at value |
| Low sports car | Enclosed with a horizontal lift | Front bumper clearance |
| Classic | Enclosed | Oil leaks and the handbrake |
| Motorcycle | Enclosed with a front-wheel chock | Straps on the handlebars and rear frame |
| Non-running car | Flatbed with a winch | That the wheels turn and the brakes work |
A motorcycle is secured upright on a chock that grips the front wheel and held with four straps, with light compression on the suspension. We accept a non-running car if its wheels turn, and pull it onto the flatbed with an electric winch rather than pushing it. The price in both cases is set on request once we know the details.
Securing and protecting the car on the carrier
The road between Haradh and Batha is straight but exposed to wind and sand, and the carrier runs along it for hours without stopping. So we do not treat securing as a formality. Each car is tied at four points, its handbrake applied and its gearbox put in park, then chocks are placed in front of and behind the wheels.
- Wheel straps: wide fabric straps with ratchets that do not touch the alloy rims.
- Safety gap: a space between each car and the next that prevents contact under braking.
- The cover: soft fabric inside the enclosed carrier. We do not cover a car on an open carrier, because the cover flaps in the wind and rubs the paint.
- Floor protection: a tray under a classic car that keeps oil from reaching a car beneath it.
- Regular checks: the tension is reviewed at every stop and after crossing the border.
Preparing the car before loading: practical tips
A quarter of an hour of preparation at home saves hours at the border and protects your rights at delivery. What is needed is simple and requires no workshop.
- Fuel: leave about a quarter of a tank. It is enough for loading, unloading and reaching the nearest station, and adds no weight.
- Personal belongings: take everything out of the cabin and boot, and keep the spare wheel and tools.
- Photos: photograph the four sides, the roof, the cabin and the rims in daylight, after washing the car.
- Odometer: photograph the odometer reading and fuel level, and we will record both in the report.
- Alarm and tracker: switch off the alarm, and tell us if the car has a device that cuts the ignition.
- Leaks and tyres: fix any oil leak and set the tyre pressures.
- Toll tag and parking stickers: remove or suspend them so that no charges are billed to you.
- Keys: hand over one key and keep the second with you.
Exporting the car through Riyadh traffic department
Anyone who wants to register a car in the UAE needs to take it off the Saudi register first. This is done by the owner or an agent at the traffic department, and ends with export plates and an export certificate that travel with the car to the border. The steps in current practice are as follows, and we confirm which apply before the shipping date because some details change.
- Pay the traffic fines recorded against the car and against your record, and check this through the Absher platform.
- Make sure the registration card is valid and in your name, and that the transfer of ownership is complete if you bought the car recently.
- If the car is financed, obtain from the bank or finance company a letter releasing the lien or stating no objection to export.
- Submit the export request at the traffic department, and hand in the Saudi plates and the registration card.
- Pay the export plate fee, published as SAR 100.
- Collect the export plates and the export certificate once the chassis number has been matched.
- Give us a copy of the certificate with an authorisation, so that we issue the customs export declaration before the carrier reaches Batha.
Export plates are temporary and are meant only to get the car to the border. So line up the date of the request with the date of the carrier, and do not apply weeks before shipping. A resident adds a copy of the passport and residence permit, and the owner of a car registered to a company adds an authorisation from the establishment.
Batha and Al Ghuwaifat: documents and clearance on both sides
At Batha the export declaration is presented and the car is matched to its certificate. At Al Ghuwaifat, UAE customs inspect the car and assess its value, the charges are collected, and the vehicle clearance certificate that the licensing authority will ask for is issued. We complete both sides through clearing agents, so you do not need to come to the border for a permanent export.
| Document | Issued by | Where it is required |
|---|---|---|
| Export certificate and export plates | Traffic department | Batha and Al Ghuwaifat |
| Copy of the registration card before deregistration | Owner | Shipment file |
| Owner’s ID, or residence permit and passport | Owner | Both sides |
| Consignee’s Emirates ID or residence | Consignee | Al Ghuwaifat and the licensing authority |
| Purchase invoice or sale contract | Seller | Valuation at Al Ghuwaifat |
| Clearance authorisation | Owner | Both sides |
| Letter from the lender | Bank | Traffic department, if there is finance |
| Transit insurance policy | Insurance company | Shipment file |
More on the paperwork is on the shipping documents page, and on our work at the borders on the customs clearance page.
Conditions for bringing the car in and registering it in the UAE
The car reaching your door in the UAE does not mean it is ready for the road. Three stops remain: customs charges, then the technical test, then insurance and registration with the licensing authority in your emirate. The rules below are those in current practice, and we go over them with the clearing agent before every shipment.
| Item | Current practice |
|---|---|
| Customs duty | 5% of the car’s value including freight and insurance |
| Value added tax | 5% on the value after duty |
| A car whose duty was already collected in the Gulf | May be exempt from duty if the documents prove it; we confirm before shipping |
| Age of the car | A used car over ten years old is generally not registered; classics have special controls |
| Steering side | Left, as on cars in the Kingdom, so no modification |
| Specifications | Cars in the Kingdom are Gulf-specification, which eases the test |
| Technical test | At a centre approved by the emirate’s licensing authority |
| Insurance and registration | A UAE insurance policy, then plates in the name of a resident or citizen |
A car that has suffered a serious accident or flooding, or whose chassis has been modified, may be rejected at the test even though it crossed the border. If your car’s history includes anything of the kind, tell us before booking so that we ask about it specifically. The shipping to the UAE page gathers the remaining requirements of the destination.
Temporary entry on your Saudi plates, or permanent export?
Not everyone taking a car to the UAE needs to give up its plates. A visitor, a tourist or a participant in an event brings the car in temporarily on its Saudi plates and then returns with it. Someone moving there to live or selling the car there takes the permanent export route. Confusing the two cases is what costs car owners the most time and money.
| Item | Temporary entry | Permanent export |
|---|---|---|
| Plates | Stay Saudi | Export plates, then UAE plates |
| UAE customs | No duty, with a limited stay | Duty and tax |
| Insurance | Insurance covering the UAE | Transit insurance, then a UAE policy |
| At the border | The owner or an authorised person attends | Completed by the clearing agent |
| Suits | A visit, a holiday, a show, a race | Relocation or sale |
And when does shipping make sense for temporary entry? When the family flies and wants its car there, when the car is a sports model that cannot take a thousand kilometres of motorway, or when a club is entering several cars in one event. In that case the owner or the person he authorises must be present at Al Ghuwaifat to complete the entry in his name, and we arrange the timing with him. The permitted stay and the conditions for residents change, so we confirm them before booking. Anyone driving on beyond the Gulf may need the carnet de passages.
Drive the car yourself, or ship it?
The road from Riyadh to Dubai is a fast dual carriageway, and many cover it in ten hours including stops. So the question is fair: why pay for a carrier? The answer depends on the car and on your circumstances, and the comparison below helps you decide.
| Point of comparison | Driving it yourself | Shipping it on a carrier |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Fuel, a night’s stay and a return ticket if needed | From SAR 1,650 |
| Your time | A full day on the road including the border | An hour at handover and an hour at receipt |
| Odometer and wear | A thousand kilometres added | The car does not move |
| On export plates | A long drive on temporary plates | Carried all the way to the testing centre |
| A low or classic car | Heat, stones and strain | Inside an enclosed carrier |
| More than one car | A driver for each car | One carrier |
In short: if it is one ordinary car and you are travelling by road anyway, drive it. If you are flying, or the car is valuable, new or not running, or you have more than one, the carrier is cheaper than it looks.
Insuring the car during transport
Your Saudi motor insurance does not cover the car while it is carried on a carrier outside the Kingdom, and once the plates are surrendered it lapses anyway. So we offer a separate transit insurance policy that begins at loading in Riyadh and ends with the consignee’s signature. The value written in it is the one you declare, and the premium is calculated on that basis.
The basis of any claim is the condition report. In it we write down every scratch and dent present before loading, attach the photos and the odometer reading, and you sign it together with the driver. At delivery the car is checked against the same report before signing, and any remark is noted on the spot, not days later. The full terms are on the cargo insurance page.
Delivering cars from Riyadh in Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah
Most carriers end their trip in Abu Dhabi, Dubai or Sharjah. We carry on to the Northern Emirates and the east coast, because many families with relatives in Riyadh live there. From Dubai the carrier heads north to Ras Al Khaimah and then Al Rams, or east across the Hajar Mountains to Fujairah, and from there along the coast to Khor Fakkan and Dibba.

| Delivery city | Distance from Al Ghuwaifat | Distance from Riyadh | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Abu Dhabi | About 350 km | About 850 km | First unloading stop |
| Al Ain | About 480 km | About 980 km | Delivered by flatbed from Abu Dhabi |
| Dubai | About 480 km | About 1,000 km | Al Barsha, Jebel Ali, Downtown and others |
| Sharjah and Ajman | 500–520 km | About 1,020 km | Residential and industrial areas |
| Umm Al Quwain | About 540 km | About 1,050 km | On the Ras Al Khaimah road |
| Ras Al Khaimah and Al Rams | About 590 km | About 1,100 km | Al Rams lies north of the city on the coast |
| Fujairah | About 600 km | About 1,120 km | By the mountain road from Sharjah |
| Khor Fakkan and Dibba | North of Fujairah on the east coast | The furthest points on the route | A small flatbed for hillside districts |
Delivery is to the door of the house, or at the testing centre if you want to start registration the same day. In hillside districts and streets too narrow for a long carrier, we unload the car at the nearest yard and it reaches you on a small flatbed. Details of the service are on the door-to-door shipping page.
Batch shipping for companies, showrooms, government bodies and embassies
Shipping ten cars differs from shipping one in everything except the road. A showroom needs a full carrier at a batch price and a fixed schedule, a rental company needs delivery at its branch, and a government body needs official correspondence and paperwork in its name. So we assign each of these clients a single coordinator who follows their batches from the first car to the last.
- Showrooms and dealers: a full carrier, the cars gathered in one yard, and a list of chassis numbers for each trip.
- Companies and rental fleets: a recurring contract at a fixed price per car, and a condition report for each vehicle.
- Government bodies: compliance with purchase orders and delivery schedules, and full documentation for audit.
- Embassies and consulates: diplomatic vehicles have an exemption route that runs on a letter from the competent authority, so we prepare the file as the mission requires.
- Individuals: a single car gets the same care, with inspection, a report and delivery to the door.
Payment is by bank transfer or electronic payment, and companies can settle periodically under the contract. For anyone shipping goods along with cars there is the commercial shipping page.
Sea freight for cars: does it suit this route?
For a single car from Riyadh, no. The capital has no port, so the car would be taken by road to Dammam first, then wait for a vessel, then be cleared at a UAE port. The road carrier will have arrived before the ship sails. A container from Dammam port may be considered for a large batch when a suitable sailing is available, and we compare the two options for you in figures if you ask. Shipping from the west-coast ports sails round the entire Arabian Peninsula and makes no sense here.
Air freight for cars from Riyadh to the UAE
Air freight is seldom used on this route, but it exists and those who use it have their reasons. A luxury car that must be at a show in two days, a race car whose owner does not want it on any road, or a rare car whose value justifies the cost. It leaves the cargo village at King Khalid Airport on a freighter or in the hold of a wide-body aircraft, for one of the UAE’s airports.

The car is driven onto a metal aircraft pallet and strapped to it at the wheels, then the airport loader lifts it into the hold. The airline requires little fuel, normally no more than a quarter of a tank, and may ask for the battery to be disconnected; we follow what it specifies for each flight. After landing and clearance it is loaded into an enclosed carrier to your address, including delivery in Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.
| Item | Air | Road in an enclosed carrier |
|---|---|---|
| Transit time | About two hours’ flying | A day’s driving |
| Total duration | 2–4 days with booking and clearance | 2–3 days |
| Price | Set on request | From SAR 2,750 |
| Suits | Luxury and very urgent cars | Most valuable cars |
We say it plainly: because the road distance is short, the difference in time between air and a dedicated flatbed is small, and the difference in cost is large. We recommend air only when the deadline or the nature of the car cannot take the road. For anything other than cars there is the air freight page.
Collecting the car from Riyadh’s districts and nearby towns
We collect from any district of Riyadh and from the governorates of the region. Inside the city our driver arrives with a small flatbed at the agreed time, inspects, photographs and signs the report with you, then takes the car to the loading yard. From the governorates we send a flatbed to bring it to Riyadh, or pick it up on the way if it lies on the carrier’s route, as Al-Kharj does.
| Area | Districts and towns | How we collect |
|---|---|---|
| North Riyadh | Al-Malqa, Al-Yasmin, Hittin, Al-Narjis, Al-Sahafa | Small flatbed from the door |
| East Riyadh | Al-Rawdah, Al-Naseem, Qurtubah, Al-Rimal and the car showrooms | From home or from the showroom yard |
| West Riyadh and Diriyah | Dhahrat Laban, Tuwaiq, Irqah, Diriyah | Small flatbed from the door |
| Central and south Riyadh | Olaya, Al-Malaz, Al-Shifa, Al-Aziziyah, Al-Dar Al-Baida | According to truck entry hours |
| Al-Kharj | About 80 km, on the carrier’s route | Loaded directly on the way |
| Al-Muzahimiyah and Huraymila | 50–85 km from Riyadh | Flatbed to the loading yard |
| Al-Majma’ah, Shaqra, Al-Quway’iyah and Al-Dawadmi | 170–300 km from Riyadh | Flatbed by prior appointment |
Steps for shipping your car from Riyadh to the UAE
- Send to 0552803439 the car type and model year, your district in Riyadh, the delivery city, and whether the entry is temporary or permanent.
- We send you the price, the suggested carrier type and the nearest departure date.
- You complete the traffic department procedure if the export is permanent, and we review the documents with you before loading day.
- We collect the car from your address, write the condition report and photograph it.
- It is loaded onto the carrier at the yard and secured at all four wheels.
- We complete the export declaration at Batha and clearance at Al Ghuwaifat.
- We tell you the arrival time, and the car is delivered at your door or at the testing centre.
- You check it against the report and sign for receipt.
Tracking the car and keeping to the delivery date
We give you two dates at booking: the day of departure from Riyadh, and the delivery window in your city. Between the two, a message reaches you at each point: left the yard, reached Batha, crossed Al Ghuwaifat, on its way to you. You have the driver’s and coordinator’s numbers from loading, so you never need to ask more than one person.
If the carrier is held at the border by congestion or an extra inspection, we tell you the new time straight away and do not wait for you to ask. If your date cannot take a delay, such as a test booking or a flight, mention it in the request so that we suggest the dedicated flatbed. The follow-up service is explained on the shipment tracking page.
Shipping cars from the UAE to Riyadh
The carriers do not return empty, so the route works in both directions. We collect the car from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah or Fujairah, clear it at Al Ghuwaifat and Batha, and deliver it in Riyadh. The procedure is reversed: a UAE export certificate first, then Saudi customs, inspection and registration.
The most important condition in this direction is the age of the car. Current practice in the Kingdom is that an imported passenger car must be no more than five years old, and must not be a former taxi or police car or one damaged by a serious accident or flooding, and must meet the fuel economy standard. Value added tax is collected at 15%. We check these points on your car before you pay anything.
How do you choose a car shipping company from Riyadh to the UAE?
Adverts on this route are plentiful, and most are a phone number and a picture of a flatbed. The difference between a carrier who knows the border and one who experiments on your car shows in a few questions you ask before handing over the key.
| Item | Reassuring sign | Worrying sign |
|---|---|---|
| Price | States what it includes and excludes | A low number with no breakdown |
| Documentation | A condition report, photos and two signatures | Collection without a single paper |
| Export | Asks about the traffic certificate and finance | Says: we will sort it out at the border |
| Carrier | Specifies its type and your car’s position | Does not know until loading day |
| Insurance | A policy in your name for a set value | A verbal promise of compensation |
| Delivery | A specific address and a time window | Collect it from a yard in Dubai |
| The establishment | A commercial registration and a fixed number | An account with no business name |

- Applying for export plates long before the carrier’s date is fixed.
- Discovering a fine or an outstanding instalment on the day of the traffic department visit.
- Exporting an old car before asking whether the emirate will register it.
- Filling the boot with suitcases on the assumption they will pass with the car.

Frequently asked questions about car shipping from Riyadh to the UAE
How much does it cost to ship a car from Riyadh to the UAE?
A saloon on a shared open carrier starts from SAR 1,650, a 4×4 or pickup from SAR 2,000, and a car inside an enclosed carrier from SAR 2,750. These are the starting figures as far as Abu Dhabi, and the extra distance is added for anyone taking delivery in Ras Al Khaimah or Fujairah. Send the car type, your district in Riyadh and the delivery city to 0552803439 and the final figure reaches you the same day.
How many days does the car need to get from Riyadh to Dubai?
On a shared carrier, two to 4 days from your door to the consignee’s door, because the carrier waits for a full load and then passes two border posts. A flatbed dedicated to one car cuts that to a day or two. Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah add half a day to a day after Dubai.
Which crossing does the car carrier use to enter the UAE?
The Batha crossing in the Eastern Province, facing Al Ghuwaifat in the emirate of Abu Dhabi; no other land crossing links the Kingdom to the UAE directly. The car completes its export formalities at the first and is inspected and cleared at the second.
What do I need from Riyadh traffic before shipping the car for good?
You need an export certificate and export plates, issued by the traffic department once fines are paid and the Saudi plates handed in. The published fee for an export plate is SAR 100. If the car is financed, the request is not accepted before a letter from the lender releasing the lien or stating no objection.
Can I ship a car that still has instalments on it?
It cannot be exported permanently until you settle the balance or obtain written consent from the bank or finance company. Temporary entry on its Saudi plates normally requires an authorisation from the owning party in the driver’s name, and we go over the letter with you before fixing the loading date.
How much is customs on a car in the UAE?
Current practice is a 5% duty on the value assessed by UAE customs including freight and insurance, followed by 5% value added tax. The duty may be waived for a car whose duty was already collected in a Gulf state if the documents prove it, and we confirm what applies to your car before shipping.
Does the UAE set an age limit for an imported car?
The commonly applied rule is that a used car older than ten years is generally not registered, with classics excepted under special controls. Because the condition changes and is applied differently, we do not load an old car before checking with the licensing authority in the emirate of registration.
What is the difference between an open and an enclosed carrier?
An open carrier takes several cars on two decks, so you split the fare with others and pay less, but your car faces dust and sun for the whole 1,000 kilometres. An enclosed carrier is a sealed box for one or two cars that keeps out sand, stones and onlookers; it starts from SAR 2,750 and we choose it for luxury, sports and classic cars.
Do you ship pickups and modified 4x4s?
Yes. They are loaded on the lower deck of the open carrier and strapped at all four wheels, and their price starts from SAR 2,000. Tell us the height in advance if the vehicle is lifted or carries a rack or roof tent, as the overall height of the carrier is limited on the road.
Can I leave personal belongings inside the car?
We advise against it. Belongings are not listed on the export declaration, may hold the car up at inspection in Al Ghuwaifat, and are not covered by the transit insurance. Only the spare wheel, the jack and the original tool kit stay in the car.
Do you deliver the car in Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah?
Yes, to the door of the house. The carrier continues from Dubai north to Ras Al Khaimah and Al Rams, or east through the mountains to Fujairah, Dibba and Khor Fakkan. In districts a long carrier cannot enter, we move the car onto a small flatbed for the last stretch.
Can the car be shipped by air from Riyadh?
It can for luxury or urgent cars, from the cargo village at King Khalid Airport to one of the UAE’s airports. The car is secured on an aircraft pallet and its fuel reduced as the airline requires, and the price is set on request because it follows the car’s weight and dimensions and the flight available.
Which is better: driving the car myself or shipping it?
Driving saves the fare for anyone with a full day to spare who enjoys the road. Shipping suits you better if you are flying with your family, if the car is a low sports car, a classic or a new one you would rather not add a thousand kilometres to, or if it is on export plates and you prefer not to drive it a long way.
Is the car insured during transport?
We offer a transit insurance policy in your name that covers the car from the moment of loading in Riyadh until the receipt is signed in the UAE, for a value you set in the request. We record the car’s condition in a report with photos before loading, and that is the reference for any claim.
Do you ship cars from the UAE to Riyadh?
Yes, the carriers return on the same route. We only point out that the Kingdom, in current practice, requires an imported passenger car to be no more than five years old, with a UAE export certificate and an inspection at registration. Send the model year before any payment so that we can confirm it will be accepted.
