Who ships from Mecca to the UAE, and what do they ship?
Makkah is not a city of trade and industry like Jeddah and Riyadh, and its shipments reflect that. Three kinds of people ship from it most: a resident who has finished work and is moving to the UAE with his family, an Emirati Umrah or Hajj pilgrim sending what exceeds the airline allowance, and a trader supplying from Makkah’s markets what the Gulf asks for, such as prayer beads, prayer rugs, dates and perfumes. Each type has a method that suits it:
| Shipper | What they ship | Most suitable method |
|---|---|---|
| A family moving to the UAE | A full home’s furniture and appliances | Full truck with dismantling and assembly |
| A relocating employee | A bedroom, cartons and suitcases | Shared load |
| An Umrah or Hajj pilgrim | Suitcases, gifts and excess luggage | By the suitcase or carton by land, or air for urgent items |
| A trader | Prayer beads, rugs, dates, perfumes and ihram clothing | By the pallet or the kilogram, with an invoice |
| A car owner | An ordinary or luxury car | Car carrier |
| Companies, official bodies and embassies | Office furniture, equipment and files | A dedicated truck on a set date |
Route and transit time from Mecca to the UAE
The road crosses the Kingdom from its west to its far east. The truck climbs from Makkah to Taif, then takes the Riyadh motorway for about 870 km. From Riyadh it heads east to Al-Ahsa and then south-east to the Batha border post, about 500 km. After the Emirati Ghuwaifat post, 350 km remain to Abu Dhabi and 480 km to Dubai. That makes it the longest Gulf route from Makkah after Oman.
| Stage | Approximate distance | Usual time |
|---|---|---|
| Dismantling, packing and loading in Makkah | — | A day |
| Makkah → Riyadh | About 870 km via Taif | A day |
| Riyadh → Batha | About 500 km via Al-Ahsa | 6–8 hours |
| Batha and Ghuwaifat | — | Hours to a day |
| Ghuwaifat → Abu Dhabi and Dubai | 350–480 km | 4–6 hours |
| Unloading and assembly | — | Half a day to a day |
| Method | Door-to-door time | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Full truck | 4–6 days | A full home’s furniture and goods |
| Shared load | 6–10 days | A room, cartons and a few pallets |
| Car carrier | 4–6 days | Cars |
| Suitcases and cartons by land | 6–10 days | Pilgrims’ luggage and gifts |
| Air via Jeddah airport | One to two days | Documents and urgent parcels |
What lengthens the time?
- Hajj and Ramadan: truck movement inside Makkah is restricted in both seasons, so loading is delayed unless booked early.
- Waiting for consolidation: a shared load from Makkah joins the Jeddah trips and waits for the truck to fill.
- Missing documents: a truck reaching Batha with complete papers crosses in hours, and one without spends the night.
- New among used: boxed appliances are valued and pay duty.
- The tower’s permit: towers in Dubai and Abu Dhabi require the service lift to be booked and an entry permit for the truck.
Shipping prices from Mecca to the UAE
Nearly two thousand kilometres make this one of the dearest Gulf routes for a full truck, and one of the most economical for those who share. So the first question is always: how much of the truck does your shipment take? These are the prices our services start from, from your door in Makkah to the consignee’s door in the UAE:
| What you ship | Method | Price starts from |
|---|---|---|
| Carton | Land freight | SAR 140 |
| Suitcase | Land freight | SAR 230 |
| Belongings above 50 kg | Land freight | SAR 4.6 per kilogram |
| Small part load | Shared load | SAR 740 |
| Ten cartons or suitcases | Shared load | SAR 1,100 |
| Bedroom with a sitting room | Shared load | SAR 1,850 |
| A flat’s furniture | Truck | SAR 4,600 |
| Car | Car carrier | SAR 3,500 |
| Air freight | Via Jeddah airport | SAR 14 per kilogram |
| Documents | Express | SAR 83 |
Prices quoted in the market for this route: small parcels by land between SAR 150 and 500, a room or part-load furniture between SAR 1,200 and 2,700, medium commercial goods between SAR 800 and 2,000, a car between SAR 4,000 and 6,000, and air between SAR 16 and 25 per kilogram. So use the table as a point of comparison for any offer you receive, and always ask what the figure covers.
| What sets the price | Its effect |
|---|---|
| Volume | The first factor. Work it out with the volume calculator |
| Full truck or shared | Full is faster and dearer; shared means you pay for your space only |
| The emirate | Abu Dhabi is nearer; Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah are about 250 km farther |
| Dismantling, packing and assembly | Lines stated in the offer, not added after it |
| The home’s location in Makkah | Hillside districts and narrow streets may need a small vehicle to shuttle to the truck |
| Season | Ramadan, Hajj and summer see higher demand |
How do you lower the cost?
- Choose a shared load if your date is not pressing.
- Do not ship what costs less in the UAE than carrying it 1,900 km.
- Gather your suitcases and cartons into one shipment; ten cost less each than two.
- Book outside Ramadan and Hajj if you can, or two weeks before them.
- Send clear photos of everything you ship; an accurate estimate prevents a price difference on loading day.
What sets shipping from Makkah apart
Shipping from Makkah is not like shipping from Jeddah, even though they are an hour apart. Makkah has three particularities that those who know it allow for. The first is that it has no airport or port, so air freight goes through Jeddah airport. The second is that large trucks enter it at regulated hours, more tightly restricted in Ramadan and Hajj. The third is that many of its districts are hilly with narrow streets, so a large truck cannot reach the door.
| Particularity | Its effect | How we handle it |
|---|---|---|
| No airport in Makkah | An air shipment is carried to Jeddah | We collect from your door and take it to King Abdulaziz Airport the same day |
| Regulated truck entry | Loading at set hours | We fix the appointment in advance and load in the permitted time |
| Hillside districts and narrow streets | A large truck cannot reach the door | A small vehicle shuttles to the truck at the nearest wide street |
| Hajj season | Restrictions on entering Makkah | We load before the season, or store the shipment until after it |
| Hotel accommodation | No room for lengthy packing | We collect suitcases and cartons ready from reception |
Shipping furniture and household goods from Mecca to the UAE

Furniture leaving Makkah stays on the road for at least four days, passes two border posts, and may have part of it opened for inspection. So packing that is enough for a move between Aziziyah and Shawqiyah is not enough here. We pack on the assumption that every piece will be loaded and unloaded more than once.
- Survey: by photos or at the home, to estimate the volume and learn whether the truck can reach the door.
- Dismantling: bedrooms, wardrobes and kitchens are dismantled and their parts numbered, with the screws in bags taped to them.
- Packing: blankets then corrugated cardboard for wood, foam and wooden crates for glass and marble, and wrap for sofas and mattresses.
- Appliances: the fridge and washing machine are emptied and dried a day before. The UAE’s supply is 230 volts with the same plugs as the Kingdom, so your appliances work there without an adapter.
- Inventory: a numbered list of every carton and piece, which is what goes to UAE customs.
- Assembly: our crew in the UAE takes each piece to its room, assembles it and removes the packing waste.
Service details are on the furniture shipping page, and packing methods in the packing guide.
Land freight from Mecca to the UAE: full truck or shared load?
Land is the main method on this route. The first decision in it changes both price and time. A full truck moves on your loading day and stops only for rest and the border. A shared load joins the Jeddah trips and waits to fill, and each shipment is then unloaded at its owner’s address in the UAE.
| Comparison | Shared load | Full truck |
|---|---|---|
| You pay for | Your shipment’s space only | The whole truck |
| Time | 6–10 days | 4–6 days |
| Departure | Once the truck is full | On loading day |
| Handling | May be moved between two trucks | Loaded once and unloaded once |
| Best for | Up to about three rooms | A full home or a lot of goods |
Details are on the land freight page.
Shipping pilgrims’ luggage and parcels
An Emirati pilgrim buys more in Makkah than his suitcase holds: rugs, prayer beads, dates and gifts for the family. And the airline charges for every extra kilogram. The answer is for the luggage to travel ahead of him or follow by land: we collect it from the hotel or residence and deliver it to his address in the UAE.
- Suitcase: from SAR 230, wrapped and numbered.
- Carton: double-wall from SAR 140, no more than 30 kg.
- Ten cartons or suitcases: from SAR 1,100, the best fit for groups and pilgrim parties.
- Per kilogram: from SAR 4.6 above 50 kg.
- Collection from the hotel: leave the luggage at reception under your name and number, and we collect it against a receipt.
- What not to put in: Zamzam water, cash, gold, and medicines without a prescription.
Details are on the parcel shipping page.
Shipping commercial goods from Mecca to the UAE
Makkah’s markets sell what the whole Gulf asks for in the seasons: prayer beads, rugs, ihram clothing, dates, perfumes and incense. A UAE trader buys wholesale and wants his goods before Ramadan or Hajj. Saudi Arabia and the UAE are in one customs union, so goods of Saudi origin cross with no duty on a certificate of origin.
- Units: by the carton or pallet in a shared load, and by the truck for quantities.
- Certificate of origin: for Saudi and Gulf goods, and it is what exempts them from duty.
- Foreign goods: they carry the unified Gulf duty of 5% if it was not paid when they entered the Gulf.
- Value added tax: 5% in the UAE on commercial imports.
- Dates and foodstuffs: with a label and expiry date.
- Perfumes and incense: declared by type and quantity, and restricted in air freight.
Details are on the commercial shipping page.
Shipping appliances and cars from Mecca to the UAE
Appliances and cars share one rule: their value is high, so recording their condition before loading is a must. An appliance is photographed while working, and a car is photographed from every side with a condition report signed with the driver.
| What you ship | How it ships | What it needs |
|---|---|---|
| Screens and electronics | In the original carton or a wooden crate, carried upright | An invoice for new ones |
| Fridges, washing machines and air conditioners | Emptied and dried, in foam and reinforced cardboard | Moving parts secured |
| An ordinary car | Car carrier, from SAR 3,500 | An export certificate from traffic after fines are paid |
| A luxury car | Enclosed carrier | Insurance at value, and detailed photos |
| A financed car | As the others | A no-objection letter from the finance provider |
- Duty on a car: 5% of the value assessed by UAE customs, then 5% value added tax.
- Age: the UAE has a condition on the age of a used car to be registered, which we confirm before shipping.
- Registration: a technical test and UAE insurance, then the emirate’s plates.
- Before loading: a quarter tank of fuel, and no personal items inside the car.
Details are on the car shipping page.
The Batha border post and UAE customs

Every shipment goes through two clearances: export at Batha, and import at Ghuwaifat. The border is 1,400 km from Makkah, so a missing paper is not easily made good. That is why we prepare the file in Makkah before the truck moves, and send a copy to our broker at the border.
| Item | Rule |
|---|---|
| Customs duty | 5% of the value of the goods and their freight on most items |
| Gulf origin | Exempt on a certificate of origin |
| A mover’s used furniture | Usually exempt, with a list of contents and the consignee’s residence permit or Emirates ID |
| New items among furniture | Anything in its box pays duty |
| Value added tax | 5% on commercial imports |
| Restricted items | Medicines, foodstuffs, cosmetics and radio devices with their permits |
| Type of shipment | Documents |
|---|---|
| Used furniture and belongings | ID or Iqama, the consignee’s residence permit or Emirates ID, and a detailed list of contents |
| Commercial goods | Invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, and the importer’s registration in the UAE |
| Car | Registration, export certificate and owner’s ID |
| Suitcases and personal parcels | Description and value of the contents, and the consignee’s address and UAE number |
The documents are explained on the required documents page, and the procedures on the customs clearance page.
What cannot be shipped to the UAE or needs a permit
| Item | Rule |
|---|---|
| Zamzam water | Its export is restricted, and it is not shipped with goods |
| Flammables and gases | Prohibited in general freight |
| Medicines | Personal quantities with a prescription; commercial by permit |
| Radio devices and drones | By prior permit |
| Seeds and plants | With a plant health certificate |
| Weapons and anything resembling them | Prohibited |
| Cash, gold and original documents | Not shipped with furniture; keep them with you |
| Counterfeits | Confiscated |
The general list is on the prohibited items page.
The UAE cities we ship to from Mecca

After Ghuwaifat the truck passes Abu Dhabi first, then Dubai, then the northern emirates. So the emirate sets the delivery day: Abu Dhabi usually on the crossing day itself, and Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah the day after.
| City | Approximate distance from Makkah | Delivery note |
|---|---|---|
| Abu Dhabi | About 1,770 km | The first major city after the border |
| Al Ain | About 1,870 km | Served from the Abu Dhabi road |
| Dubai | About 1,900 km | Towers that require the service lift booked and an entry permit |
| Sharjah and Ajman | About 1,930 km | Delivery outside rush hours is preferable |
| Umm Al Quwain | About 1,960 km | On the Dubai day or the next |
| Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah | About 2,020 km | The day after crossing |
Send us the area name, building, flat number and a UAE mobile number. Destination details are on the shipping to the UAE page.
Shipping for individuals, companies, government bodies and embassies
The service is the same at its core, and differs in what surrounds it. An individual cares that his home arrives as it left. A company cares that its work is not interrupted. An official body or an embassy cares about procedure, records and privacy.
| Customer | What matters to them | What we provide |
|---|---|---|
| Individuals and families | Safe furniture and a price with no surprises | A photo survey, dismantling, packing and assembly, and an itemised price |
| Pilgrims and pilgrim groups | Collection from the hotel and delivery at home | Every suitcase numbered in its owner’s name, and a collection receipt |
| Companies and hotels | The date and the documents | A dedicated truck, tax invoices, and periodic trips under contract |
| Government bodies | Official procedure and records | Letters, a collection and delivery record, and sealed packing for files |
| Embassies and consulates | Privacy and diplomatic exemptions | Coordinating exemption documents, and delivery inside the premises |
Air freight from Mecca to the UAE

On a land route that takes at least four days, air becomes a real option for anything light and urgent. We collect the shipment from your door in Makkah and take it to King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah the same day. The flight to Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah is about two and a half hours, with delivery within one to two days including clearance.
- For whom: documents, urgent parcels, small electronics, commercial samples, and the suitcase of a pilgrim in a hurry.
- Charging: on the greater of actual and volumetric weight. Work it out with the volumetric weight calculator.
- Price: air freight starts from SAR 14 per kilogram, and documents by express from SAR 83.
- When land suits better: above 50 kilograms, land is far cheaper, starting from SAR 4.6 per kilogram.
- What it does not suit: furniture, large appliances, liquids, perfumes in quantity and loose batteries.
Details are on the air freight page, and in the article air freight office in Jeddah.
Is sea freight from Mecca to the UAE a better fit?
The nearest port to Makkah is Jeddah Islamic Port. A container from there to Jebel Ali sails round the whole Arabian Peninsula, taking 14 to 22 days. So sea freight only suits heavy commercial goods whose owner is in no hurry. For furniture, luggage and cars, land is faster and cheaper. The full comparison is on the shipping methods comparison page.
Collection from Makkah’s districts and nearby towns
We pack and load at your location, in any district of Makkah: Aziziyah, Shawqiyah, Awali, Naseem, Sharaie, Batha Quraysh, Zahir and Rusayfah. We also collect from nearby towns, and their shipments join the same trip:
| Place | Distance from Makkah | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Hotels in the central area | Within Makkah | Suitcases and cartons collected from reception |
| Al Jumum and Bahrah | 20–40 km | Collected on the same day as Makkah |
| Jeddah | About 80 km | The two shipments join in one trip |
| Taif | About 90 km | On the same road, so loaded on the way |
If your home in the UAE is not ready yet, or your travel date falls in Hajj season, we store your shipment in our warehouse, packed and inventoried, until you set the date. Details are on the storage page.
Steps for shipping from Mecca to the UAE
- Contact: you send what you are shipping with photos, your district in Makkah, and your address in the UAE.
- Itemised price: it reaches you by line: dismantling, packing, transport, clearance and assembly.
- Booking: we fix the loading day and its permitted hour, and ask for copies of the ID and the consignee’s residence permit.
- Packing and loading: at your home, with a numbered list of contents and photos.
- Export clearance: at the Batha post.
- UAE clearance: at the Ghuwaifat post.
- Delivery: to the address, with unloading and assembly if you asked for it.
Tracking and insurance
Four days on the road is a time in which a shipper has every right to ask. So we do not wait for the question: we tell him when the truck leaves Makkah, when it passes Riyadh, when it reaches the border, when clearance is done, and the time of arrival at his door.
- Tracking: by shipment number, with an update at every stage. Details are on the track your shipment page.
- Record: photos of every item before packing and after loading.
- Insurance: optional, calculated as a percentage of the declared value, and we recommend it on this route because the road is long. Details are on the cargo insurance page.
- On receipt: inspect the shipment and note any remark on the delivery report before signing.
Shipping from the UAE to Mecca
The route works in both directions. We collect from the address in the UAE through our crew there, clear at both posts, and deliver to any district of Makkah in the hours permitted for trucks. A Saudi returning from work in the UAE brings in his used furniture exempt with a list of contents. Goods of Emirati origin enter the Kingdom with no duty on a certificate of origin.
