What sets the price of shipping to Kenya?

  • The shipment’s volume in cubic metres — the first factor in sea and land freight.
  • Chargeable weight — the greater of actual and volumetric weight, and the basis of air freight.
  • The nature of the goods — delicate pieces need packing or wooden crates.
  • Additional services — dismantling and assembly, temporary storage, insurance, delivery to the floor.
  • Destination country charges — customs and taxes are paid in Kenya and set out in the quote.

Car shipping to Kenya

We ship vehicles to Kenya — RoRo or container

Kenya is one of the destinations we move cars to regularly, through the Port of Mombasa. We recommend the most economical method for your car’s value and the arrival port, and prepare the entry documents before departure, not after the vehicle arrives.

  • RoRo: The vehicle drives on by its own wheels — the most economical for used cars.
  • Container: Secured with four straps and chocks under the tyres — more protective for luxury and classic cars.
  • Triptyque: Temporary-entry procedures and release documents ready before shipping.

About this route

What sets shipping to Kenya apart

The nature of the route

By sea to the Port of Mombasa, the gateway to East Africa. From it shipments for Uganda, South Sudan, Rwanda and eastern Congo continue by road.

What its customs look at

Kenya registers only right-hand-drive cars no more than eight years from first registration, after a pre-shipment roadworthiness inspection. So cars from the Kingdom, being left-hand drive, do not enter for use there, apart from special-purpose vehicles. They do, however, transit Mombasa to neighbouring countries.

What we ship there most

  • Vehicles in transit to neighbouring countries
  • Equipment and machinery
  • Commercial goods
  • Personal effects

A tip from experience

If your final destination is South Sudan, Rwanda or eastern Congo, left-hand drive is accepted there and Mombasa is your transit port.
