Who ships a car from Jeddah to the UAE?
Most of those who ask for this service are residents who have finished their work in Jeddah and moved to a job in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, and want their car to follow them rather than sell it in a hurry. After them come people who have sold a car to a buyer in the UAE or bought one to sell there, and then the car showrooms that send more than one car on a single trip. Some ship a car for a season or an exhibition and then bring it back. Each of these has a carrier that suits them and a document to start with:
| The owner | What they ship | The carrier that suits | The first thing to prepare |
|---|---|---|---|
| A resident moving to work in the UAE | Their own car or the family car | A shared open carrier | The export certificate before final exit |
| A seller or buyer between the two countries | A used car sold at a distance | An open carrier or a single-car flatbed | The sale contract and the buyer’s ID in the UAE |
| A car showroom in Jeddah | Three to eight cars per trip | A whole carrier booked privately | A list of chassis numbers |
| The owner of a luxury or classic car | A low sports car or a collector’s car | A padded enclosed carrier | A valuation of the car for insurance |
| A participant in an exhibition or event | A show or race car that returns afterwards | An enclosed carrier both ways | A letter from the organiser |
| A motorcycle owner | A touring or sports motorcycle | A closed vehicle with a fixing base | The motorcycle’s registration and the owner’s ID |
Services of a car shipping company from Jeddah to the UAE
The service is not only a carrier. A car leaving the Kingdom for good needs someone to collect it, someone to finish its papers at the traffic department, someone to stand with it at the two border posts, and someone to bring it to its owner in a city whose streets he does not yet know. These are the links of the work we take on for every car:
- Collection from the door: a hydraulic flatbed takes the car from your home, office or showroom to the assembly yard.
- Export papers: reviewing the registration card and fines with you, and following up the export certificate request and the surrender of the plates.
- Securing and protection: straps on the wheels, not on the body, and a fabric cover for anyone who asks for it.
- Clearance: the export declaration at Batha, and the import declaration and vehicle clearance certificate at Ghuwaifat.
- Follow-up: a message with the carrier’s position at every stage, and a delivery date that is updated if it changes.
- Delivery: setting the car down at the address in the emirate, and a condition report signed by the recipient.
The details of the general service are on the car shipping page, and anyone shipping furniture and cartons along with the car will find what concerns them in the article on shipping from Jeddah to the UAE.
The land route from Jeddah to the UAE via the Batha crossing
Jeddah is on the Red Sea and the UAE is on the Arabian Gulf, with the whole width of the Arabian Peninsula between them. The carrier climbs from Jeddah to Taif on the Al-Sail road that trucks use, then takes the motorway to Riyadh, skirts it towards Al-Kharj and Al-Ahsa, and descends south after Salwa to the Batha border post. A short way past the Saudi barrier lies the Emirati Ghuwaifat post, and from there a single coastal road runs through Sila and Ruwais to Abu Dhabi and then Dubai. There is no other land crossing between the two countries, so every shipped car passes this way.

| Stage | Approximate distance | Time | What happens in it |
|---|---|---|---|
| From your home to the assembly yard in Jeddah | Inside the city | Hours | Inspection, photographs and a condition report |
| Jeddah → Riyadh | About 950 km via Taif | A day | Continuous driving with the driver’s statutory rests |
| Riyadh → Batha | About 500 km via Al-Ahsa and Salwa | 6–8 hours | The file is reviewed before arrival |
| Batha, then Ghuwaifat | The two posts face each other | Hours to a day | Saudi export, then Emirati import |
| Ghuwaifat → Abu Dhabi → Dubai | 350 km, then 130 km | 4–6 hours | The cars are distributed to their addresses |
The card on the image says “file ready before arrival”, and in practice that means copies of the registration card, the export certificate and the IDs of the owner and the recipient are sent to our broker at the border while the carrier is still on the Riyadh road. When it arrives it finds its declaration already entered, and what remains is the check of the chassis number and payment of the duty. Details of the crossings are on the shipping to the UAE page.
How long car shipping from Jeddah to the UAE takes, and keeping to the date
The time is counted from the moment the car goes onto the carrier, not from the day of the call. The difference between the two is the wait for a shared carrier to fill, which we tell you plainly at booking: when the next carrier leaves, and how many places are left on it. Anyone who cannot wait books a single-car flatbed that leaves on the day they choose.
| Means of transport | Time from loading to delivery | When it leaves |
|---|---|---|
| Shared open carrier | 4–6 days | When its load is complete |
| Enclosed carrier | 4–6 days | On a date agreed in advance |
| Covered single-car flatbed | About 3–4 days | On the day you set |
| Air freight | 1–3 days | According to cargo flight schedules |
What lengthens the time?
- A traffic fine that appears on the day the export certificate is requested, so the request stops until it is paid.
- A letter or digit that differs between the chassis number on the car and the number on the registration card.
- Congestion at Batha before Eids and holidays, when the truck queues grow long.
- Personal belongings discovered inside the car at the customs inspection.
- The absence of the recipient or their representative when the car reaches the emirate.
The table of times for the other destinations is on the transit times page.
Car shipping prices from Jeddah to the UAE
The price of moving a car on this route follows three things before any others: the type of carrier, the size of the car, and the emirate where it is set down. The figure we give you covers collection from the assembly yard in Jeddah, transport, securing, and the clearance fees at both border posts. Government charges, which are the traffic department fee and the Emirati customs duty and its tax, are paid at their actual value and appear on a separate line.
| The car and how it is carried | Price starts from | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Saloon or hatchback on an open carrier | SAR 2,350 | As far as Dubai, with other cars |
| 4×4 or large family car | Set on request | By length and weight |
| Single-cab or double-cab pickup | Set on request | It takes a longer place on the carrier |
| Luxury or sports car in an enclosed carrier | Set on request | By value and the car’s ground clearance |
| Covered single-car flatbed, door to door | Set on request | A private trip with one car |
| Motorcycle | Set on request | On a base inside a closed vehicle |
| A car that does not run | Set on request | The winch charge is added |
| Air freight for the car | Set on request | By weight and dimensions |
Prices quoted in the market: what is published about this route is sparse and far apart. For shipping a car from Jeddah to Dubai, between 2,500 and 5,000 UAE dirhams is mentioned, and for shipping a small car by road between SAR 3,000 and 4,500. From Riyadh, which is half the distance, it is offered at between SAR 2,200 and 4,000, and some advertisements show a figure below a thousand riyals without explaining what it covers. In the opposite direction, from Dubai, about SAR 3,200 is mentioned. Always ask: is the figure for the carrier alone, or does it include clearance and delivery to the address?
| Factor | Its effect on the price |
|---|---|
| Size and weight of the car | A long or heavy car takes the place of two small ones on some carriers |
| Type of carrier | An enclosed carrier holds fewer cars, so each car’s share of its hire is higher |
| Condition of the car | One that does not run needs a winch at loading and unloading |
| Ground clearance | A very low car needs a lift platform instead of the usual ramp |
| Emirate of delivery | Abu Dhabi is nearer to Ghuwaifat than Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah |
| Season | Before Eids and the summer, demand for carriers rises |
| Number of cars | Three cars or more for one owner bring the price per car down |
How do you bring the cost down?
- Accept the shared carrier and its date if you are not in a hurry.
- Bring the car to the assembly yard yourself if your home is near it.
- Book two weeks before Ramadan, the two Eids and the summer.
- Ship with a neighbour or colleague who is moving to the UAE in the same month.
- Pay the fines and prepare the letters before booking, since a waiting carrier is charged for.
The general pricing factors are explained on the pricing factors page.
What sets car shipping from Jeddah apart?
Jeddah is the farthest of the Kingdom’s large cities from the Batha crossing, so a car leaving it crosses the Kingdom from its western coast to its eastern border. That makes driving it yourself a journey of two full days, and makes the carrier the usual choice rather than the exception. The city itself has points to allow for at collection:
- Tower car parks: many buildings on the Corniche and in Al-Shati and Al-Hamra have underground parking with a low ceiling, so the car comes out to the street and goes onto the flatbed there.
- The old districts: the streets of Al-Balad, Al-Hindawiyah and Al-Kandarah cannot take a long carrier, so the car is taken to the yard on a small flatbed.
- Coastal humidity: Jeddah cars live in salty air, so we photograph the underbody and the door edges in the condition report, so that old rust is not attributed to the journey.
- Car showrooms: showrooms send batches, so we book them a whole carrier loaded directly from the showroom.
- The port: some cars arrive at Jeddah Islamic Port as imports and are then sold to a buyer in the UAE, and these follow a customs path different from that of a registered car, so we review their status before pricing.
- The seasons: in Ramadan and Hajj the roads between Jeddah, Makkah and the airport are congested, so collection is set for the first hours of the morning.
Open carrier, enclosed carrier or single-car flatbed: which is for your car?
The open carrier is what you see on the motorways: two decks of cars on an open frame. It carries more, so the hire per car falls, and it is what the car dealerships themselves use. The enclosed carrier is a locked box with walls, which the car enters so that nobody sees it and neither road grit nor the sun of the Empty Quarter reaches it. The single-car flatbed is a small truck that carries one car from your door to the other door without a change of vehicle.
| Point of comparison | Open carrier | Enclosed carrier | Covered single-car flatbed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Number of cars | Up to eight | One to three | One |
| Protection | Firmly secured, with the car visible | Walls, roof and padding | A fabric cover over the car |
| Cost | The lowest | The highest | Between the two |
| Departure | When the load is complete | By advance booking | Whenever you wish |
| Suits | Everyday cars | Luxury, sports and classic cars | Urgent moves and anyone who wants the car on its own |
In all three cases the car is tied down at its four wheels with webbing straps, and left with the gearbox in park and the handbrake on. No strap is tightened on a suspension arm or an axle, since that is what damages the alignment on long journeys.
Shipping luxury and sports cars from Jeddah to the UAE
A sports car cannot climb the ramp of an ordinary carrier, since its low nose touches the steel before the wheel arrives. That is why we send it an enclosed carrier with a rear lift platform: the car stands on the platform level with the ground, and is then raised horizontally to the height of the box floor. Inside there are padded walls and a floor with tie-down points, and a soft fabric cover is fitted to each car so that road dust does not settle on it.

- Loading: one driver from our team drives the car a few metres only, and the odometer is recorded before and after.
- Tie-down: straps over the tyres on protectors, so that no hook metal touches a rim or the body.
- The battery: for a car that will stand for days, a terminal is disconnected or a maintenance charger is connected if the owner asks.
- Insurance: a policy for the agreed value of the car, not the limit of the general transport document.
- Large family cars: their dimensions with the roof rack and mirrors are checked before their position is chosen.
A classic car is treated like a sports car, with one thing more: its engine is started only to move it, and it is handed over with a list of the original removable parts in it.
The types of vehicle we carry from Jeddah to the UAE
Any vehicle that runs on wheels and has a registration card can be exported, but the way it is carried differs. We ask about the model, the year of manufacture and any change in height or width before we choose the carrier, because a lifted car on large tyres may not fit the upper deck, and a low car cannot climb the ramp.
| Vehicle | How it is carried | What we watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Saloon and hatchback | Open carrier, either deck | Fuel level and mirrors |
| 4×4 and family car | Usually the lower deck | Height with the roof rack |
| Pickup | Open carrier or flatbed | Its load bed completely empty |
| Luxury and sports car | Enclosed carrier with a lift platform | Ground clearance and rims |
| Classic car | Enclosed carrier | The age condition for registration in the UAE |
| Motorcycle | A base inside a closed vehicle | Draining most of the fuel and tying the handlebars |
| A car that does not run | Winch, then flatbed | That the wheels turn and the steering works |
Preparing the car before loading in Jeddah
Half an hour spent with your car before the flatbed arrives saves a long discussion at delivery. The car needs to be clean so that its scratches can be seen, empty so that it passes customs, and ready to stand for days without moving.
- Wash the outside, since a small scratch does not show under dust and is not written in the report.
- Leave about a quarter of a tank: enough for loading and unloading without adding weight.
- Take out everything that is not part of the car: papers, glasses, chargers and the toll tag.
- Photograph it with your phone from the four sides, the roof and the inside, and photograph the odometer.
- Check the tyre pressure and the battery, and tell us about any oil leak.
- Close the windows and the sunroof, fold the mirrors and remove the external aerial.
- Switch off the alarm, hand over one key and keep the second.
A fuller explanation is in the car shipping guide.
Exporting the car through the Jeddah traffic department
A car registered in the Kingdom does not cross the border, shipped for sale or registration abroad, until the traffic department has recorded its removal from the register. This is what is called surrendering the plates and issuing the export certificate. The request is made in the name of the owner shown on the registration card or their agent, some of its steps are available through the Absher platform and some require a visit to the traffic department, and what is available online changes, so we confirm the method in force at the time of your request. The usual order is:
| Step | What is required | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Clearing the record | Payment of all fines on the car and its owner | The request is not accepted with a fine outstanding |
| Releasing encumbrances | The car free of lien and finance | Or a no-objection letter from the financier |
| The export request | A valid registration card and the owner’s ID or Iqama | An agent needs a power of attorney that names export |
| Handing in the plates | The two original plates | Replaced by export plates with a set validity |
| The export certificate | Payment of the set traffic department fee | The original travels with the car to the border |
| Cancelling local insurance | Notifying the insurer after export | Part of the premium may be refunded |
A resident leaving on final exit starts with these steps before anything else, since the rule in force is that the final visa is not issued while a vehicle stands in his name. Anyone who cannot attend appoints an agent, and we tell him the wording the power of attorney needs.
UAE customs and registering a car arriving from Jeddah
At Ghuwaifat a car exported for good is treated like any imported car: its value is assessed, its duty is collected, and a vehicle clearance certificate is issued for it. That certificate is the key to registration, and without it the car is not tested and no plates are issued. After the border post the procedures are completed in the emirate where the owner lives.
| Item | The rule in force | What we do before shipping |
|---|---|---|
| Customs duty | 5% of the value assessed by customs | We work out an approximate amount with you |
| Value added tax | 5% on the value and the duty | Added to the same calculation |
| A car with duty paid in the Gulf | May be exempt from duty on proof of the earlier payment | We ask for the old customs declaration if there is one |
| Age of the car | Not registered beyond ten years, with an exception for classics | We confirm what applies to your model |
| Specifications | Left-hand drive and Gulf specifications | Cars from the Kingdom usually comply |
| The car’s record | Written-off and flooded cars are refused | We ask about the accident history |
| Test and insurance | A technical test and local insurance before the plates | We direct you to the nearest centre |
| Registration | An Emirates ID and a valid residence permit | Registered in the name of the owner or their agent |
These rules are issued by customs and the licensing authorities in each emirate and are updated from time to time, so the table shows the rule in force, and we confirm what currently applies before the car moves. Clearance is explained on the customs clearance page.
Car shipping documents, and what is not accepted for shipping
The file is small but cannot bear a gap, since one missing paper stops a carrier with eight cars on it. We ask for copies first so that we can review them, and then the originals are handed over with the car in a sealed envelope that stays with it to the border.
| Document | Who issues it | Required at |
|---|---|---|
| The car’s registration card | The traffic department | The export request |
| The export certificate | The traffic department | Batha and Ghuwaifat |
| The owner’s ID, or Iqama and passport | The owner | Both border posts |
| The recipient’s Emirates ID or residence permit | The recipient | Ghuwaifat and registration |
| The sale contract or invoice | The seller | Assessing the value |
| A no-objection letter | The finance provider | The traffic department, for a financed car |
| Authorisation of the broker | The owner | Clearance on both sides |
And these are cases in which the car is not loaded, or is loaded once they are dealt with:
| Case | Ruling |
|---|---|
| A car with fines or an existing lien | Not shipped until it is cleared |
| Personal belongings or goods in the cabin and boot | Emptied before loading |
| A full tank or extra fuel cans | The tank is lowered and the cans removed |
| A car that is written off or has been flooded | Carried, but its registration in the UAE is not guaranteed |
| A visible oil or fuel leak | Repaired first so that it does not damage the car beneath |
| Weapons or prohibited substances inside the car | Strictly forbidden, and the owner answers for them |
The general lists of documents and prohibited items are on the shipping documents and prohibited items pages.
Temporary entry on your Saudi plates, or permanent export?
Not everyone who takes a car to the UAE is exporting it. Someone going as a visitor for some weeks and then returning enters with the car and its Saudi plates, and at the border needs only insurance that covers the UAE and a valid registration card in his name, or an authorisation to drive outside the Kingdom. Someone who is going to live there, however, will not be able to renew the Saudi registration or the periodic inspection from abroad, so export and Emirati registration become unavoidable.
| Point of comparison | Temporary entry | Permanent export |
|---|---|---|
| Plates | Saudi, as they are | Surrendered and replaced by export plates |
| Customs duty | Not collected | 5% at Ghuwaifat |
| Length of stay | Limited by the length of the visit and the rule in force at the border | Permanent after registration |
| Insurance | A policy that covers the UAE | A new Emirati policy |
| Suits | The tourist and the temporary worker | Someone moving to live there, or who has sold the car |
Even someone on temporary entry may ship rather than drive: a person flying with the family who wants the car in Dubai for the summer month sends it on a carrier with its plates, with an authorisation from him to the driver who takes it across the border. For anyone travelling by car beyond the Gulf there is the customs passage carnet, explained on the Triptik page.
Insurance and protection while the car is carried
Protection begins before the insurance policy: with a driver who knows how to load a low car, a strap in its proper place, and a report that fixes the state of the car before it moves. Then comes insurance, to cover what care cannot prevent, such as an accident on the Riyadh road, a fire or a theft.
- The condition report: a sheet with a drawing of the car on which every scratch and dent is marked, signed by the owner and the driver.
- The photographs: about thirty dated pictures, a copy of which is sent to you on the day of loading.
- The carrier’s liability: in place on every trip, and limited to what the transport document states.
- Comprehensive insurance: optional, for the value of the car, and we recommend it for any car that is hard to replace.
- At delivery: the report is compared with the car in front of the recipient, and any remark is written down before signing.
The types of cover and what they exclude are on the cargo insurance page.
Delivering cars from Jeddah in Dubai
Dubai is where we deliver most on this route. The long carrier does not enter the streets of the Marina or the tower entrances, so it stops in a yard on the edge of the city, and each car is taken from there on a small flatbed to its address. Delivery is at the tower entrance or in front of the villa gate, and the recipient inspects the car before it comes down and after.

| Area of Dubai | Nature of delivery | What is arranged in advance |
|---|---|---|
| Dubai Marina | At the tower entrance or the drop-off area | The building management’s permission for the flatbed to stop |
| Business Bay | In front of the tower, outside peak hours | The recipient’s name with building security |
| Jumeirah | In front of the villa gate | Space to set the car down in the street |
| Deira | The nearest point the flatbed can reach | A morning appointment because of the narrow streets |
| Al Barsha | In front of the villa or building | An exact location on the map |
In the other emirates the car is delivered in the same way, and the difference is in the distance from Jeddah:
| Emirate or city | Distance from Jeddah | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Abu Dhabi | About 1,850 km | The first large city after Ghuwaifat |
| Al Ain | About 1,950 km | Branches off the Abu Dhabi road |
| Dubai | About 2,000 km | The destination most in demand |
| Sharjah and Ajman | About 2,020 km | Delivered the same day, after Dubai |
| Umm Al Quwain | About 2,050 km | By flatbed from the Dubai yard |
| Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah | About 2,100 km | Usually a day is added |
A car still on export plates cannot be driven freely in the UAE, so we deliver it at the address, or directly at the test centre if the owner asks. The delivery-to-address service is explained on the door to door page.
Do you drive your car to the UAE or ship it?
Everyone with a licence and the time asks this. Driving is possible and the road is good, but its full reckoning differs from the fuel bill. The road from Jeddah is two days of serious driving, with long desert stretches between Taif and Riyadh and after Al-Ahsa.
| Point of comparison | You drive it yourself | You ship it on a carrier |
|---|---|---|
| Your own time | Two to three days | An hour to hand over and an hour to receive |
| The odometer | Rises by about 2,000 km | Does not change |
| The costs | Fuel, a night’s stay and a return ticket | The carrier’s charge |
| At the border | You complete the procedures yourself | A broker presents a ready file |
| After the plates are surrendered | Driving is limited by the export plates and their validity | No need to drive it |
| The risks | Fatigue, road grit and breakdowns | Covered by insurance |
Driving suits someone travelling as a visitor and coming back. Shipping suits someone moving with the family by air, someone exporting a car they have sold, and someone who does not want the car to begin its life in the UAE with two thousand extra kilometres.
Shipping several cars for showrooms, companies and government bodies
Whoever sends more than one car pays for the carrier, not for a place on it. The showroom that has sold five cars to a dealer in Sharjah, the company moving its sales fleet to a new branch, and the body sending the cars of a delegation or an official exhibition all book a whole carrier on a fixed date.
- For individuals: a place on a shared carrier, follow-up by messages, and payment at booking and at delivery.
- For showrooms and dealers: a price per car that falls as the number rises, a single list of chassis numbers, and loading from the showroom.
- For companies: a periodic contract, a tax invoice, and a report on the state of every car at delivery.
- For government bodies and embassies: coordination by official letters, and a customs path according to the status of the body and its exemptions.
- For events and races: an enclosed carrier that waits in the UAE and brings the cars back when the event ends.
In group shipping the cars are numbered and loaded in the reverse of the delivery order, so that no car is taken down to reach another.
Can a car be shipped by sea from Jeddah to the UAE?
Possible in theory and impractical. A ship leaving Jeddah Islamic Port sails down the whole Red Sea, rounds the south of the Arabian Peninsula and then climbs to Jebel Ali, so with the wait at both ports the car spends two weeks or more on a trip the carrier covers in under a week. That is why we offer the sea on this route only for a batch of commercial cars that is not urgent, priced on request. The sea is the norm for distant destinations, and it is detailed on the RoRo car shipping page.
Air freight for cars from Jeddah to the UAE
Air is for a car that cannot bear a five-day wait: a luxury car its owner wants in Dubai before the end of the week, a show car with a stand at an exhibition, or a race car before practice at the circuit. It is handed over at the cargo village of King Abdulaziz Airport, secured on a metal pallet that enters the cargo aircraft through its side door, and reaches Dubai within one to 3 days of handover.

- Classification: in aviation a car is dangerous goods because of its fuel and battery, so it has a special declaration prepared by a specialist.
- Fuel: the rule in force is that the tank holds no more than a quarter, and some carriers ask for less.
- The battery: it is secured and its terminals protected, and electric and hybrid cars have additional requirements that are reviewed with the carrier.
- Dimensions: the height and width of the car decide which type of aircraft will take it.
- Papers: the same export certificate, with clearance at the arrival airport instead of Ghuwaifat.
- Price: set on request by weight and dimensions, and it is several times the road price.
After release in Dubai the car is taken on a covered flatbed to its owner’s address. Air services for things other than cars are on the air freight page.
Collecting cars from the districts of Jeddah and around it
The assembly yard is on the road out of Jeddah, and the flatbed gathers cars to it from the districts on the day before departure. The collection time is set to the hour, and the driver calls half an hour before he arrives. The flatbed also reaches those outside Jeddah, with the difference in distance added.
| Area | Districts and towns | Collection note |
|---|---|---|
| North Jeddah | Obhur, Al-Shati, Al-Mohammadiyah, Al-Basateen, Al-Hamdaniyah | Wide streets, with collection in front of the house |

Steps for shipping a car from Jeddah to the UAE
From the first call to the signature on receipt there are eight steps. The first three are with you and us in Jeddah, and the rest we handle and report to you.
- You send the make and model of the car, a picture of the registration card and the intended emirate to 0552803439.
- We check the fines, the lien and the age condition, and give you the price and the carrier’s date.
- The export certificate is obtained and the plates are handed to the traffic department.
- The flatbed comes to your home, the condition report is written and the car is photographed.
- The car is loaded in the yard and secured, and the carrier heads east.
- The file is sent to the border, and the export is completed at Batha and the import at Ghuwaifat.
- The carrier reaches the distribution yard, and your car is taken on a flatbed to the address.
- The recipient inspects the car and signs, and is given the clearance certificate to begin registration.
Tracking the car and follow-up after delivery
The carriers are fitted with positioning devices, but what a car owner needs is not a dot on a map but news he can understand: where it is, when it arrives, and whether anything at the border is holding it up. That is why we send a message at every stage, and call if a date changes.
- During the journey: an update at loading, on passing Riyadh, on entering Batha and on leaving Ghuwaifat.
- Before delivery: a call to the recipient a day ahead to fix the hour and the place.
- After delivery: we ask about the state of the car within two days, and stay with you until the test and registration are complete.
- If a remark appears: it is written in the report and the insurance claim is opened with the photographs we hold.
How follow-up works is on the shipment tracking page.
Shipping cars from the UAE to Jeddah
The carriers come back from Dubai loaded, so the route works in both directions. We collect the car from your address in any emirate once you have obtained its Emirati export certificate, clear it at Ghuwaifat and Batha, and set it down in Jeddah. The Saudi conditions are stricter than the Emirati ones in two respects: the rule in force is that an imported light car is no more than five years old, and that it meets Saudi specifications and carries the fuel economy label. The duty is 5% of the value, with 15% value added tax. A Gulf car entering on its own plates as a visitor has a time limit on its stay in the Kingdom, and we confirm what currently applies in all of this before shipping.
Home Safe’s advice before you ship your car
These are notes we gathered from cars that were delayed needlessly on this particular route:
- Check for fines before booking, not after, as some are recorded days after they occur.
- Ask for the bank’s letter early if the car is financed.
- Do not surrender the plates before you are sure the UAE accepts the registration of your model.
- Renew the periodic inspection and the registration card if they are close to expiry, as the request needs both valid.
- Include the Emirati customs duty and its tax in your budget along with the transport charge.
- Name a recipient in the UAE who holds a valid ID, even if it is a friend with a power of attorney.
- Do not sell the car to a buyer in the UAE before the two of you agree who pays the duty.
- Keep a copy of every paper on your phone until the Emirati plates are issued.
How do you choose a car shipping company from Jeddah to the UAE?
Advertisements for car transport are many, and most are a mobile number and a picture of a flatbed. The difference between a carrier that works inside the city and a company that takes your car across an international border shows in a few questions:
| The sign | What it indicates |
|---|---|
| A visible commercial registration and a written contract | A party that can be held to account if a dispute arises |
| Asks about fines and finance before the price | Knows that export begins at the traffic department |
| Writes a condition report and takes photographs | Accepts being held to what it delivers |
| Names the border post and its broker | Has someone to stand with the car at Batha |
| Separates the price from government charges | No surprises at Ghuwaifat |
| Offers insurance for the value of the car | Does not settle for a verbal promise |
| Does not promise one day from Jeddah | Really knows the road |
Common mistakes when shipping a car from Jeddah to the UAE
Seven mistakes recur, and each of them costs days or money:
- Booking the carrier before obtaining the export certificate, then paying for its wait.
- Shipping a car that is past the age accepted for registration in the UAE.
- Filling the boot with suitcases as being “with the car”.
- Handing the car over dirty, so that the report does not record its old scratches.
- Choosing the cheapest price without asking whether it includes clearance and delivery.
- Neglecting insurance on a car of high value.
- Travelling before authorising someone to receive the car and sign for it in the UAE.

Frequently asked questions about car shipping from Jeddah to the UAE
How much does it cost to ship a car from Jeddah to the UAE, and what changes the price?
A saloon on an open carrier starts from SAR 2,350 as far as Dubai. The figure rises with the size and weight of the car, with the choice of an enclosed carrier or a single-car flatbed, with the distance of the emirate from Ghuwaifat, and with collection from inside a narrow district of Jeddah. A 4×4, a luxury car and a motorcycle are priced on request once the model is known. Send the make of the car and its year of manufacture to 0552803439.
How many days does a car need to get from Jeddah to Dubai?
4 to 6 days from the hour it goes onto the carrier in Jeddah until it comes off in Dubai. About two of those days are on the road inside the Kingdom, one day is for the two border posts, and the rest is for the Emirati road and distribution. A single-car flatbed, which does not wait for other cars, cuts the time to about 3 or 4 days.
What is the difference between moving a car inside the Kingdom and shipping it to the UAE?
A domestic move, from Jeddah to Riyadh for example, needs nothing but the registration card and the owner. Shipping to the UAE is an export: the Saudi plates are surrendered, an export certificate is issued, the car passes two customs offices, and then it is registered afresh in the emirate. That is why a complete file is prepared for it before it moves.
Which should I choose for my car: the open carrier or the enclosed one?
The open carrier is enough for a car that runs every day on the streets of Jeddah, since on the carrier it meets the same sun and dust it meets on the road, without the wear. The enclosed carrier is for a car whose paintwork matters: a low sports car, a new luxury car, a restored classic.
Can I leave my personal belongings inside the car?
No. The car is exported empty, and customs at Batha and Ghuwaifat inspect the cabin and the boot. Anything left in it may delay the whole carrier and is not covered by the insurance. Only what belongs to the car stays in it: the spare wheel, the jack and the emergency kit.
What does the Jeddah traffic department require before the car is exported?
That the registration card is valid and in your name, and that the car carries no unpaid fines and no lien. After that the export request is submitted, the plates are handed in, and the export certificate is issued. Some of the steps are done online and the rest by visiting the traffic department, and we tell you which are available at the time of your request.
How much customs does a car pay on entering the UAE?
The rule in force is a customs duty of 5% of the value assessed by Emirati customs, then 5% value added tax. A car whose duty was previously paid in one of the Gulf states may be exempted from the duty if proof of that is presented. We review the status of your car before shipping so that you know the amount in advance.
Does the UAE accept the registration of an old car?
The rule in force is that a used car more than ten years past its manufacture is not registered, and classic cars have special treatment with the approval of the licensing authority. This condition is reviewed from time to time, so we confirm what currently applies to the model of your car before its plates are surrendered in Jeddah.
My car is financed. Can it be shipped?
Only after the approval of the finance provider. For a car that is mortgaged or on a finance lease, the traffic department does not issue an export certificate until the lien is released or a no-objection letter arrives from the bank or finance company. Start with that letter, as it is the longest wait in the file.
Is driving the car to Dubai cheaper than shipping it?
In fuel alone, yes. But the journey is 2,000 km, two days of driving and a night on the road, a return ticket if you are leaving the car there, and wear on the tyres, the oil and the odometer. And anyone exporting a car for good cannot drive it once its plates are surrendered, except within what the export plates allow.
Do you ship a car that does not run, or a motorcycle?
Yes to both. A car that does not run is winched onto a low flatbed and then moved to the carrier, and its wheels must turn and its steering must work. A motorcycle is fixed upright on a base inside a closed vehicle, with straps on the handlebars and the frame. Both are priced on request.
Can the car be shipped by air from Jeddah to the UAE?
Yes, from the cargo village at King Abdulaziz Airport to Dubai. The car is secured on a pallet in a cargo aircraft and arrives in one to 3 days. It is an option for a luxury car or one needed for a near date, and it costs several times the road price, so it is priced on request by the weight and dimensions of the car.
What is the benefit of insuring the car during shipping?
It compensates you for the value of the damage if the carrier has an accident, or there is a fire, a theft, or a scratch during loading and unloading. The carrier’s liability on its own is limited to the terms of the transport document, whereas the insurance is written for the value of your car. The condition report and the photographs we take before loading support it.
What is the best time to ship a car from Jeddah?
Outside the weeks before the two Eids and the summer holiday, when the Batha crossing is crowded with travellers and carrier rates rise. In the Hajj season and Ramadan the approaches to Jeddah and Makkah are congested, so collection from the home needs booking at least a week earlier.
How do I follow my car, and is it delivered at the tower in Dubai?
You receive a message at every stage: loading, Riyadh, Batha, Ghuwaifat, and then the delivery appointment. In Dubai the car comes off the flatbed at the entrance of the tower in the Marina or Business Bay, or in front of the villa in Jumeirah and Al Barsha, and the recipient signs the condition report after inspecting it.
