What does an air freight office do?
An airline does not collect from your home, pack, clear customs or deliver to an address. It carries from airport to airport only, and deals with freight agents, not individuals. The air freight office is the agent that stands between you and it: it books the space on the flight, prepares the shipment and its documents, takes it through screening and customs, and arranges its delivery in the country of arrival.
| Comparison | Air freight office | The airline directly | Express courier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deals with | Individuals and companies | Freight agents | Individuals and companies |
| Best for a weight of | From 20 kg to tonnes | Agents’ shipments | Documents and anything under 20 kg |
| Collection and packing | Yes | No | Collection, usually without packing |
| Clearance | In both countries | No | Simplified, for small parcels |
| Price per kilo | Falls clearly with weight | — | High as weight rises |
The rule: an envelope or a small parcel goes by express courier. Anything over 20 kilograms, and anything that needs packing, clearance or more than one carton, goes through an air freight office.
Air freight services from Jeddah
| Service | How it works | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Priority | The first direct flight, with loading priority | Spare parts, documents and anything with a deadline |
| Standard | A direct flight, or one stop | Most parcels and goods |
| Economy consolidated | Several shipments grouped under one master air waybill | Belongings and anything not urgent, at a lower price |
| Door to door | Collection, clearance and delivery to the address | Individuals and anyone without an agent |
| Airport to airport | Handed over and collected at the cargo terminal | Companies with their own clearing agent |
Air freight transit time from Jeddah by destination
| Region | Examples | Time from collection to delivery |
|---|---|---|
| The Gulf | Dubai, Kuwait, Doha, Manama, Muscat | 1 – 3 days |
| The Levant and Egypt | Amman, Beirut, Cairo | 2 – 4 days |
| Turkey and Europe | Istanbul, London, Paris, Frankfurt | 3 – 6 days |
| The Indian subcontinent | Mumbai, Karachi, Dhaka | 3 – 5 days |
| East Asia | Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Shanghai | 3 – 6 days |
| Africa | Khartoum, Addis Ababa, Nairobi, Lagos | 3 – 7 days |
| The Americas and Australia | New York, Toronto, Sydney | 5 – 8 days |
The flight itself is a matter of hours. The rest of the time goes on collection, clearance in both countries and delivery.
What lengthens the transit?
- A missing document or a vague description: the most common cause of delay, and all of it before take-off.
- An item that needs a permit: in the country of arrival or from the carrier.
- Peak seasons: Hajj, Ramadan and the end of the year, when flights fill up.
- A flight with a stop: cheaper, and it adds one to two days.
- The weekend in the country of arrival: customs there does not work on its weekly days off.
How is the air freight price calculated? Chargeable weight

An aircraft fills up by volume before it fills up by weight, so airlines charge on the greater of two weights:
- Actual weight: what the scale reads.
- Volumetric weight: length × width × height in centimetres, divided by 6000.
| Example | Size and weight | Volumetric weight | Charged on |
|---|---|---|---|
| A carton of clothes | 60 × 50 × 40 cm, weighing 12 kg | 20 kg | 20 kg |
| A carton of books | 40 × 30 × 30 cm, weighing 18 kg | 6 kg | 18 kg |
| A box of spare parts | 50 × 40 × 30 cm, weighing 25 kg | 10 kg | 25 kg |
Work out your shipment’s weight with the volumetric weight calculator before you call. At Home Safe we weigh and measure in front of you, and write both figures on the invoice.
A tip that saves money: you pay for the full volume of a half-empty carton. Choose a carton that fits the contents, and compress the clothes.
Air freight prices from Jeddah
The price per kilo changes with the destination and the weight, so no single figure suits every shipment. These are the starting prices on our lanes; for the final price send the destination, weight and dimensions to 0552803439 and you will have it the same day.
| Destination | Price per kilogram starts from |
|---|---|
| Nearby destinations and large weights | SAR 14 |
| Europe, with the Netherlands as an example | SAR 23 |
| Morocco | SAR 28 |
| Canada | SAR 32 |
| Other destinations | Ask for it by destination and weight |
What sets the price per kilo?
| Factor | Its effect |
|---|---|
| Destination | The Gulf is cheapest, the Americas highest |
| Weight break | The price per kilo drops at 45, 100, 300 and 500 kg |
| Speed of service | Priority direct costs more than standard with a stop |
| Type of goods | Anything that needs special handling or a permit costs more |
| Scope of service | Door to door costs more than airport to airport |
What is added on top of the price per kilo
The “price per kilo” you hear on the phone may be the air freight charge alone. The invoice carries other items, so ask about them before you compare:
- Fuel and security surcharges: set by the carrier on every kilogram, and changing monthly.
- Airport handling: in Jeddah and at the arrival airport.
- The air waybill fee: a fixed charge per shipment.
- Export clearance: a fixed charge, rising if there are many product lines.
- The minimum charge: a small parcel is billed on it, not on its weight.
- Collection and delivery: in the door-to-door service.
At Home Safe you receive one all-in figure, with what it covers and what it does not. What always stays outside it: duties and taxes in the country of arrival.
How to lower the cost
- Shrink the volume: a carton that fits the contents.
- Combine the shipment: 50 kilograms at once costs less than five shipments.
- Choose economy if you have no deadline.
- Avoid the peak: prices rise before the holidays.
- Compare with sea for anything over 300 kilograms.
What do we ship by air from Jeddah?

- Parcels and personal belongings: clothes, books and gifts, in one carton or more. Details are on the parcel shipping page.
- Documents: contracts, certificates and official papers.
- Samples and spare parts: for companies, factories and workshops.
- Commercial goods: high in value and low in weight, and anything that cannot wait for the sea.
- Students’ and movers’ belongings: what they need in their first weeks.
- Luxury cars: on an aircraft pallet, as in the article on car shipping from Saudi Arabia.
- Repatriation of remains: a separate service with its own procedures, in the article on repatriation of remains from Jeddah.
Shipping suitcases and excess baggage by air
A traveller leaving after years in the Kingdom carries more than the ticket allows. Airlines charge a high price for an extra suitcase, and cap its weight and number. Shipping belongings separately is the answer for anyone with three suitcases or more:
- Collected from your home days before you travel, so you fly with hand luggage.
- No limit on the number of suitcases, and the price falls as the weight rises.
- They arrive a few days after you at your address, not on the airport belt.
- Declared as used personal effects, with a simple list of their contents.
- What stays with you: papers, medicines, cash, gold and the computer.
Shipping commercial goods and samples by air
A trader chooses air when the value per kilo is high or time costs more than freight: a spare part a factory is waiting on, exhibition samples, electronics, a season’s fashion.
- The commercial invoice: at the true value, since duties in the country of arrival are calculated on it.
- The packing list: weight, dimensions and number of packages.
- The certificate of origin: when the importer or a trade agreement asks for it.
- Samples: marked “samples of no commercial value” if that is truly what they are.
- Pallets: treated wood, at a height that fits the aircraft door.
The details are on the commercial shipping page.
What is and is not accepted in air freight

Every shipment passes X-ray security screening before loading. Air transport rules are stricter than those at sea:
| Item | Status |
|---|---|
| Flammable and explosive materials, and compressed gases | Prohibited in ordinary freight |
| Lithium batteries and devices containing them | On the carrier’s conditions for number, packing and labelling |
| Perfumes, nail polish and aerosols | Classed as dangerous goods, accepted by special arrangement |
| Liquids | In leak-proof packing, and some are restricted |
| Medicines | Personal quantities with a prescription, or commercial with a permit |
| Food | According to the country of arrival, and perishables do not go as ordinary freight |
| Cash, gold and jewellery | Not shipped in ordinary parcels |
Send a description of what you are shipping before collection, and we will tell you what is accepted. The general list is on the prohibited items page.
The documents and the air waybill

- The air waybill: the contract of carriage and the tracking number. We issue it, and you receive your copy.
- For personal parcels: the ID or iqama, and an accurate description of the contents and their value.
- For goods: a commercial invoice, a packing list, a commercial registration, and a certificate of origin where needed.
- Consignee details: the name as on their ID, the address, and a mobile number in the country of arrival.
- What the country of arrival requires: an import permit or a conformity certificate for some items.
How to read the waybill
| Box | What it means |
|---|---|
| Waybill number | 11 digits: the first three are the airline’s code, and you track with it |
| Shipper and consignee | As on the ID, and any error in them delays delivery |
| Airports of departure and destination | As three-letter codes, with JED for Jeddah |
| Number of packages and weight | Actual and chargeable |
| Description of goods | What the customs officer reads first |
| Payment | Prepaid, or collected from the consignee |
An accurate description shortens clearance: “personal effects” is not enough, so write “used clothes, 12 pieces”.
The rest of the paperwork is on the required documents page.
The shipment’s journey from your door to the aircraft
Between collection and take-off there are six stages, and every delay makes sense once you know them:
- Collection: from your location, with weighing and measuring.
- Preparation: packing and labels, built onto a pallet if there is a lot.
- Booking: space on a specific flight, and the waybill is issued.
- Export clearance: a customs declaration of contents and value.
- Security screening: by X-ray at the cargo terminal.
- Loading: handed to the carrier a set number of hours before the flight, then onto the aircraft.
A shipment that misses the handover deadline waits for the next flight. That is why a request before noon saves a day.
Door to door, or to the airport?
| Comparison | Door to door | Airport to airport |
|---|---|---|
| Collection | From your location | You hand over at the cargo terminal |
| Clearance in the country of arrival | We handle it | Up to the consignee |
| Delivery | To the address | The consignee collects from the airport |
| Suits | Individuals and anyone without an agent | Companies with their own clearing agent |
The service is detailed on the door-to-door shipping page.
Collection from your location in Jeddah

You do not need to look for an office near the airport. We collect from the home, office or warehouse, and pack on site where needed.
| Area | Examples | Collection |
|---|---|---|
| North Jeddah | Obhur, Ash Shati, Al Muhammadiyah, An Naim and Al Basateen | Usually the same day |
| Central Jeddah | Ar Rawdah, As Salamah, Al Hamra, Al Aziziyah and Al Faisaliyah | Usually the same day |
| South and east Jeddah | Al Balad, the industrial area, Al Khumrah, As Samer and Al Ajwad | Usually the same day |
| Makkah and Taif | All districts | Arranged a day ahead |
| Rabigh, Thuwal and Al Lith | — | By prior arrangement |
A request before noon is usually collected the same day.
Packing for air freight
- A double-walled carton that fits the contents.
- Filling that stops movement: foam or paper, with no empty space.
- Tape on every edge, and the address label on two faces.
- Fragile items: a box inside a box, with a “fragile” label.
- Weight: no carton over 30 kg, so it can be carried safely by hand.
The packing method is on the packing guide page.
Insurance and tracking
- The carrier’s liability is limited: an airline’s compensation is calculated per kilogram, not on the value of the goods. For a phone or a watch it is negligible.
- Insurance: optional, a percentage of the declared value, and we recommend it for anything of high value. Its details are on the cargo insurance page.
- Tracking: with the waybill number on the track your shipment page.
- Updates: at collection, take-off, arrival, release and delivery.
Inbound air freight to Jeddah
The office works in both directions. For anyone buying from a supplier abroad, or whose family is sending them belongings, we arrange collection at origin and the flight to King Abdulaziz Airport, then clearance and delivery in their city.
- For individuals: the ID or iqama, and a statement of the contents.
- For traders: a commercial registration, an invoice, and a conformity certificate for the items subject to one.
- Charges: customs duty by product, and VAT at 15%.
The details are on the customs clearance page.
Air or sea?
| Comparison | Air | Sea |
|---|---|---|
| Transit | Days | Weeks |
| Pricing unit | The kilogram | The cubic metre or the container |
| Best for | Light, urgent and high-value items | Heavy and bulky items and household furniture |
| Restrictions | Stricter | Broader |
The practical rule: under 100 kilograms, ask about air first. Over 300 kilograms, ask about sea. The full comparison is on the shipping methods comparison page.
Steps for air freight from Jeddah
- You send the destination, weight and dimensions and a description of the contents.
- You receive the price and transit time and what they cover.

How to choose an air freight office in Jeddah
| Criterion | What to ask for | Warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| Legal standing | A commercial registration and a known address | A mobile number with no establishment behind it |
| Weight | Weighed and measured in front of you | “We’ll weigh it at the airport and let you know” |
| Price | An all-in figure and what it covers | A price per kilo with no mention of surcharges |
| The waybill | A copy with a real tracking number | A “collection receipt” only |
| The goods | They ask what is in the cartons | “We ship anything” |
Common mistakes in air freight
- A carton bigger than its contents: you pay for air.
- Hiding a battery or a perfume: it is found at screening and the shipment is held.
- A vague description of the contents: it delays clearance.
- A wrong mobile number for the consignee: the shipment comes back.
- Comparing the price per kilo alone: ask about the minimum and the other charges.
- Shipping something that needs a permit without one.
- An understated value on the invoice: it is found out, and the shipment is fined in the country of arrival.
- Shipping valuables uninsured: the carrier compensates by the kilogram.

What is the price per kilo for air freight from Jeddah?
It starts from SAR 14 a kilogram for nearby destinations and large weights, from SAR 23 to Europe, SAR 28 to Morocco and SAR 32 to Canada. The final price depends on the destination, the chargeable weight and the type of goods. Send the details to 0552803439.

On the greater of two weights: the actual weight on the scale, and the volumetric weight, which is length × width × height in centimetres divided by 6000.

What is added on top of the price per kilo?
The carrier’s fuel and security surcharges, airport handling, the air waybill fee and export clearance. In our price we quote them together as one figure.
What cannot be shipped by air?
Flammable and explosive materials and compressed gases. Perfumes, aerosols and lithium batteries are accepted only on special conditions.
Do you collect the shipment from my location?
Yes, from the home, office or warehouse in every district of Jeddah, and from Makkah, Taif and Rabigh by prior arrangement.

Usually yes for anyone with more than one extra suitcase. The suitcases arrive a few days after you, not with you.
Do you ship commercial goods by air?
Yes, from samples to full pallets, with the invoice, the packing list and a certificate of origin where needed.
Do you handle inbound air shipments to Jeddah?

Which is cheaper: air or sea?
Sea is cheaper for anything heavy or large. Air is cheaper in time, and reasonable for anything under 100 kilograms.
