Who ships from Mecca to Kuwait, and what do they ship?

Kuwaitis are among the most frequent Gulf visitors to Makkah. They come for Umrah in Ramadan and the holidays, and many of them come by road, in their own car or on a campaign coach. Alongside the visitors are Kuwaiti families who keep a home in Makkah that they furnish and move things from, and residents who finished their work in Makkah and moved to a job in Kuwait. So most of what leaves Makkah on this route is luggage, gifts and household furniture, and the least of it is factory goods. These are the types of shipper and what suits each:

Shipper What they ship Most suitable method
A Kuwaiti Umrah or Hajj pilgrim Suitcases, gifts and luggage there is no room for By the suitcase or carton by land, or air for urgent items
An Umrah or Hajj campaign A whole group’s luggage Shared load with a numbered tag on every suitcase
A family moving to Kuwait A full home’s furniture and appliances Full truck with dismantling and assembly
An owner of homes in both countries A sitting-room set, carpets and furniture pieces Shared load
Someone sending to family Parcels, cartons and appliances Parcels door to door
A trader Prayer rugs, prayer beads, dates, perfumes and clothing By the cubic metre or the truck, with an invoice
A car owner A car for export or transfer Enclosed car carrier

Route and transit time from Mecca to Kuwait

Makkah is in the west of the Kingdom and Kuwait lies to its north-east, so the truck crosses the country from one side to the other. It climbs from Makkah to Taif, then runs along the Riyadh motorway for about 870 km. From Riyadh the road divides: north to Hafar Al-Batin and the Ruqai border post, or east and then north through Nairiyah to Khafji. The distance from Riyadh to Kuwait City is between 650 and 700 km. The driving alone is about 16 hours, so it is split over two days with the driver’s rest hours.

Stage Approximate distance What happens
Makkah → Riyadh About 870 km via Taif The longest stage; Jeddah and Taif shipments join it
Riyadh → Ruqai About 580 km via Hafar Al-Batin Reaching the post and completing export
Or Riyadh → Khafji About 550 km via Nairiyah The alternative road for southern Kuwait
The Kuwaiti post — Clearance and inspection at Salmi or Nuwaiseeb
Post → address 100–120 km Distribution to the governorates and unloading
Method Door-to-door time Suits
Full truck 3–5 days A full home’s furniture and goods
Shared load 5–8 days One or two rooms, sitting-room sets and carpets
Suitcases and cartons by land 5–8 days Pilgrims’ luggage and parcels
Enclosed car carrier 3–5 days Cars
Air via Jeddah airport One to two days Documents and urgent parcels

What lengthens the time?

  • Hajj and Ramadan: truck movement inside Makkah is restricted, so loading is delayed unless booked early.
  • Waiting for consolidation: a shared load from Makkah joins the Jeddah runs and waits for the truck to fill.
  • Congestion at the post: before Eids and holidays, and when Umrah campaigns return, the queues at Ruqai and Khafji grow.
  • A vague list of contents: “personal effects” with no detail invites a manual inspection.
  • An incomplete address: an address without block, street and house delays delivery by a day.

Ruqai or Khafji: where does your shipment enter Kuwait?

Kuwait has two land border posts with the Kingdom, and a truck coming from Makkah can take either after Riyadh. We do not choose the post out of habit, but first by the consignee’s address, then by the length of the queue at each post on the crossing day. This is the difference between them:

Comparison Ruqai ↔ Salmi Khafji ↔ Nuwaiseeb
Road from Riyadh Majmaah, then Hafar Al-Batin Nairiyah, then Khafji
Enters Kuwait from The west The south, on the Gulf coast
Closest to Jahra, the Capital and Farwaniya Ahmadi, Fahaheel, Sabah Al-Ahmad and Khiran
From the post to Kuwait City About 120 km About 100 km

An address in Hawalli or Mubarak Al-Kabeer is reached by both roads in roughly the same time, so we send the truck to the less crowded post.

Shipping prices from Mecca to Kuwait

The price follows what you ship and how it is measured. A parcel and a suitcase are charged by the piece, furniture by its volume in cubic metres, a full truck by its size, and air freight by the kilogram. These are the prices our services start from, from your home or hotel door in Makkah to the consignee’s door in Kuwait. The final price reaches you the same day, once you send what you are shipping and your area in Kuwait to 0552803439.

What you ship Method Price starts from
Small parcel Shared load SAR 90
Carton Shared load SAR 140
Suitcase up to 25 kg Shared load SAR 230
Belongings by the cubic metre Shared load SAR 550 per metre
Carpets and soft furnishings Shared load SAR 370
Sitting-room set or sofa set Shared load SAR 740
Bedroom Shared load SAR 920
Dismantled kitchen Shared load SAR 1,100
Small flat’s furniture Shared or small truck SAR 1,380
Villa furniture Full truck SAR 3,700
Office equipment and furniture Shared load SAR 650
Car Enclosed carrier SAR 2,300
Air freight Via Jeddah airport SAR 14 per kilogram
Documents Express SAR 83

Prices quoted in the market for this route are higher on most lines: a parcel up to 5 kg between SAR 120 and 150 by land and between SAR 200 and 250 by air, a parcel up to 20 kg between SAR 200 and 300 by land, one room of furniture between SAR 1,500 and 2,000, a part load between SAR 300 and 1,200, a full truck between SAR 1,500 and 6,000, and a car between SAR 1,200 and 4,500 from some and between SAR 4,500 and 6,000 from others. So use the table as a benchmark for any offer you receive, and always ask what the figure includes.

What sets the price Its effect
Volume Governs furniture and goods. Work it out with the volume calculator
Weight Governs parcels and air freight
Full truck or shared A full truck is faster and dearer; in a shared one you pay only for your space
Dismantling, packing and assembly Lines stated in the price, not added after it
Where the home is in Makkah A narrow or steep street needs a small vehicle to shuttle to the truck
Floor and lift In Makkah and in Kuwait, and whether a hoist is needed
Season Ramadan, Hajj and summer see higher demand

How do you lower the cost?

  • Choose a shared load if your date is not pressing.
  • Combine your suitcases and cartons in one shipment instead of sending them in batches.
  • Ship by the cubic metre if your belongings are many and light.
  • Book outside Ramadan and Hajj, or two weeks before them.
  • Send clear photos of everything you are shipping; an accurate estimate prevents a price difference on loading day.

Land freight from Mecca to Kuwait: shared load or full truck?

Land is the main method on this route, and it suits everything that is not urgent. A closed truck protects the load from sun and dust over a 1,550 km road. It is loaded at your door and unloaded at the consignee’s door, with no port or airport in between. What remains is to choose between sharing the truck with others and taking it alone:

Comparison Shared load Full truck
You pay for Your shipment’s space only The whole truck
Time 5–8 days 3–5 days
Departure Once the truck is full On loading day
Handling Shipments are sorted at distribution Loaded once and unloaded once at your home
Best for Suitcases, cartons and one or two rooms A full home or a large quantity of goods

Once your belongings take up more than half of the truck’s space, booking it whole becomes the safer choice and possibly the lower cost per metre. Send your list and we compare the two options and say which fits your move from Makkah. How the service runs is explained on the land freight page.

What you should know about shipping from Makkah in particular

Makkah is not like the Kingdom’s other cities when it comes to loading. Large trucks enter it at set hours, and are restricted further in Ramadan and Hajj. Many of its districts are on mountain slopes, with narrow, steep streets. And it has neither an airport nor a port. A company that does not allow for this promises you a date it does not control. This is how we deal with each case:

The situation in Makkah Its effect What we do
Truck entry hours No loading at just any time We fix the appointment in advance within the permitted hours
Narrow and steep streets The truck cannot reach the door A small vehicle shuttles the items to the nearest wide street
Hajj season and late Ramadan Tighter restrictions and crowds We load before the season, or store the shipment until after it
Hotel accommodation No room for lengthy packing We collect suitcases and cartons ready from reception
No airport in Makkah Air freight leaves from Jeddah We carry the shipment to King Abdulaziz Airport the same day

Shipping the luggage of Kuwaiti Umrah and Hajj pilgrims

Shipping pilgrims’ luggage from Mecca to Kuwait

A Kuwaiti pilgrim goes home from Makkah with more than he came with: prayer rugs, prayer beads, dates, abayas and gifts for family and neighbours. Whoever came by plane is charged by the airline for every extra kilogram. Whoever came on the campaign coach finds the luggage space limited to a suitcase or two. The answer is for you to travel light, and for your luggage to follow you by land to your front door.

  • Collection from the hotel: you leave the suitcases and cartons at reception under your name and number, and we collect them against a receipt stating the number of pieces.
  • A numbered tag on every suitcase: with its owner’s name, number and area in Kuwait, so the luggage of the campaign’s members is not mixed up.
  • A suitcase: from SAR 230 up to 25 kg, stretch-wrapped before loading.
  • A carton: from SAR 140, double-walled, and we supply it to anyone without one.
  • Campaigns: the whole group’s luggage in one shipment by the cubic metre, from SAR 550 per metre, distributed in Kuwait to its owners’ addresses.
  • Delivery at home: in any governorate, within 5 to 8 days, so you find it days after your return.
  • What does not go in it: Zamzam water, cash, gold, passports, and medicines you need on the journey.

Anyone who wants the gifts there before arriving, or has something that cannot wait, sends it by air via Jeddah airport in one to two days.

Packing and shipping furniture from Mecca to Kuwait

Packing furniture in Mecca before shipping it to Kuwait

Household furniture is charged by its volume, not its weight. The road to Kuwait is long and passes two border posts, and part of the load may be opened for inspection and closed again. So packing, numbering and the list of contents are not an extra on top of the service; they are what gets the furniture there intact and through customs without a stop. What moves most on this route is sitting-room sets, carpets and bedrooms, and each piece has its own way:

The piece How it is prepared
Sitting-room sets and sofas Bases are separated from the backrests where possible, covered with blankets and then stretch film, and the corners protected with cardboard
Carpets Cleaned and rolled dry, wrapped tightly in plastic, and loaded upright or on top of the furniture, never under it
Bedrooms and wardrobes Dismantled with the panels numbered, and the screws put in a bag taped to the piece
Glass, mirrors and marble Foam and reinforced cardboard or a wooden crate, carried upright
Fridge and washing machine Emptied and dried a day ahead, with their moving parts secured
Air conditioners A refrigeration technician locks the gas inside the outdoor unit first, then takes the set down and wraps each unit on its own
  • Survey: by photos or at home, to estimate the volume and find out whether the truck can reach the door.
  • Dismantling and numbering: every piece carries its number and room, so the Kuwait team knows where to assemble it.
  • A list of contents for customs: a numbered list of every carton and piece, which you sign and keep a copy of; it is what is presented at the border post.
  • Loading: heavy items below and fragile ones above, with the load tied down by straps and wooden dividers that stop it moving.
  • Assembly: our team in Kuwait unloads, assembles, checks the pieces against the list and removes the packing waste.

Service details are on the furniture shipping page, and packing methods in the packing guide.

Shipping parcels and cartons from Mecca to Kuwait

Not everyone who ships is a pilgrim or someone relocating. Many send a carton to a relative, a single piece they bought, or a student’s belongings. These do not need a truck; they are consolidated with the shared load and delivered to the door. The charging changes with the size of the parcel:

Parcel How it is charged Price starts from Note
Small parcel By the piece SAR 90 Gifts, prayer beads, Qurans and clothing
Carton By the carton SAR 140 Double-walled, and no more than 30 kg
Suitcase By the suitcase up to 25 kg SAR 230 Stretch-wrapped and numbered
Large or numerous parcels By the cubic metre SAR 550 per metre The cheapest for anyone with more than four cartons

Write on every parcel the consignee’s name, Kuwaiti mobile number, and address by block, street and house. No Zamzam water, cash or gold goes in parcels. Details are on the parcel shipping page.

Shipping electrical appliances and electronics

What harms an appliance on a 1,550 km journey is not impact but constant vibration. An unsecured appliance can have a screw work loose or a hinge break within two days of driving. That is why each kind is prepared in its own way before it goes on the truck:

  • Screens: stood upright at the top of the load above the heavy pieces, inside the original carton or a padded wooden crate.
  • Computers and phones: in their boxes inside a second padded carton, with cables and accessories separated in a numbered bag.
  • Large household appliances: secured in the truck with straps and wooden dividers, with nothing loaded on top of them.
  • New items: declared with their invoice, and not mixed with used furniture.
  • Electricity: you need no transformer in Kuwait; the current there is 240 volts and the sockets are the type used in the Kingdom.
  • Anything of value: photographed while working, with its value declared and insured.

Shipping commercial goods from Mecca to Kuwait

A Kuwaiti trader buys from Makkah’s markets what sells in the seasons: prayer rugs, prayer beads, Ihram clothing, dates, perfumes and incense. Online shops send their customers’ orders in batches. The Kingdom and Kuwait are in one customs union, so goods of Saudi origin cross with no duty if they carry a valid certificate of origin.

  • Units: by the cubic metre or the pallet in a shared load, and by the truck for quantities.
  • Sorting: goods are separated by their nature, clothing from tools from breakables, and stacked to reduce the volume.
  • Certificate of origin: for Saudi and Gulf goods; it is what exempts them from duty, and it is issued before loading.
  • Foreign goods: carry the unified Gulf duty of 5% if it was not paid when they entered the Gulf.
  • Dates and foodstuffs: with an Arabic label and an adequate expiry date.
  • The importer: needs a commercial licence and an import licence in Kuwait.
  • Before the seasons: book three weeks before Ramadan and Hajj, as demand for trucks rises.

Details are on the commercial shipping page.

Shipping cars from Mecca to Kuwait

The car travels inside an enclosed car carrier from Makkah to Kuwait, so it arrives with the odometer as it left and without the dust and stone chips of 1,550 km. It is inspected and photographed from every side before loading, and secured by its wheels. Before anything else we ask: are you moving it to Kuwait for good, or visiting with it and coming back? Each case has its own papers:

Item Detail
Method Inside an enclosed car carrier, or driven by its owner on export plates
Price Starts from SAR 2,300 in the enclosed carrier
Final export An export certificate from the traffic department after fines are paid and the plates surrendered
Age of the car We check your car’s model year against the limit Kuwait places on the age of used cars coming in, before it is loaded
Customs duty 5% of the value if its duty was not paid in the Gulf before
A visitor Enters with the car on its Saudi plates and insurance covering Kuwait, with no export
Before loading A car empty of belongings, and a quarter tank of fuel

For the full picture, the article car shipping from Saudi Arabia explains the export conditions, and the car shipping page sets out the transport methods.

Kuwaiti customs and the documents required

Every shipment goes through two clearances: export at the Saudi post, and import at the Kuwaiti post opposite. Most delays at the border come from a missing paper, not a long inspection. That is why we review the file before the truck leaves Makkah, and tell you what is missing while you can still bring it.

Type of shipment Duty in Kuwait Documents
Used furniture and belongings Exempt for someone relocating ID or Iqama, the consignee’s Civil ID, and a detailed list of contents
Personal suitcases and parcels Exempt within personal use A description of the contents and their value, and the consignee’s name, address and number
Goods of Saudi or Gulf origin Exempt Invoice, packing list, certificate of origin and export declaration
Foreign goods 5% if not paid before Invoice, packing list, and proof that the duty was paid
Car 5% if not paid before Registration, export certificate and the owner’s ID

A new consumer product, though, crosses only if it conforms to Gulf standards. Every paper named here is detailed on the required documents page, and the crossing steps at the two posts on the customs clearance page.

What cannot be shipped to Kuwait or needs a permit

One prohibited item in a carton stops the whole truck at the border post, with other people’s shipments on it. So go through this list before you seal your cartons, and ask us about any item you are unsure of:

Item Ruling
Zamzam water Its export is restricted; it is shipped neither with luggage nor with goods
Alcohol and drugs Prohibited
Pork and its products Prohibited
Weapons, ammunition and fireworks Prohibited or by licence
Medicines Personal quantities with a prescription
Drones and radio equipment By prior permit
Foodstuffs in commercial quantities With a label, expiry date and the food procedures
Cash, gold and original documents Not shipped with furniture; they stay with you
Counterfeit goods Confiscated

The general list is on the prohibited items page.

Delivery in Kuwait’s six governorates

Delivering shipments from Mecca in Kuwait

After the border post everything is close. Kuwait is small in area, and the farthest inhabited address from either post is about two hours away. So delivery takes place on the crossing day itself or the day after. A truck entering through Ruqai starts with Jahra, and one entering through Khafji starts with Ahmadi:

Governorate Main areas Nearest post
The Capital Shuwaikh, Dasma, Kaifan, Sharq Ruqai
Hawalli Salmiya, Jabriya, Bayan, Mishref Either
Farwaniya Khaitan, Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, Ardiya Ruqai
Jahra Qasr, Waha, Saad Al-Abdullah Ruqai
Ahmadi Fahaheel, Mangaf, Mahboula, Sabah Al-Ahmad Khafji
Mubarak Al-Kabeer Qurain, Adan, Sabah Al-Salem Either

The delivery team’s job ends inside the home, not at its door: bringing the furniture in, assembling wardrobes and beds, and checking the pieces against the list. So that the team arrives without delay, send the block, street and house numbers along with a Kuwaiti mobile number, and tell us the floor and whether there is a service lift. In the towers of Salmiya and Mangaf, prior arrangement with the building management is a must. More on the destination is on the shipping to Kuwait page.

Shipments for companies, government bodies and embassies

An organisation’s shipment differs from a household’s in two things: paperwork and timing. The organisation wants a document for every stage, and a date that other people’s work depends on. So we assign each organisation a single contact, and put what we commit to in writing before loading.

The organisation What it ships What we provide
Companies and shops Goods, equipment and office furniture Scheduled runs for repeat shipments, and a tax invoice
Government bodies Devices, materials and printed matter Delivery against a signed record, and a report of the shipment’s stages
Embassies and consulates Transferred staff’s belongings and documents Advance coordination of the documents, and discretion in handling
Umrah and Hajj campaigns Group luggage Collection from hotels, and a numbered tag on every suitcase

Air freight from Mecca to Kuwait

Air freight from Mecca to Kuwait

Makkah has no airport, but Jeddah is close. A shipment with a date that will not wait, such as an exhibition, a contract or an occasion, is picked up from your home or hotel and taken on the collection day itself to King Abdulaziz Airport. From there the flight to Kuwait International Airport lasts about two hours. After clearance at the two airports it is with the consignee in one to two days, instead of five days on the land route.

  • For whom: a pilgrim’s suitcase that is needed quickly, commercial samples, small electronics, urgent parcels and documents.
  • Charging: on the greater of actual and volumetric weight. Work it out with the volumetric weight calculator.
  • Price: air freight starts from SAR 14 per kilogram, and express documents from SAR 83.
  • When land suits better: above 50 kilograms, land is far cheaper and the difference in time is a few days.
  • What it does not suit: furniture, large appliances, liquids, perfumes in quantity and loose batteries.

Details are on the air freight page, and in the article air freight office in Jeddah.

Is there sea freight from Mecca to Kuwait?

The nearest port to Makkah is Jeddah Islamic Port, about 80 km away, and it is on the Red Sea. Kuwait is at the head of the Arabian Gulf. So a ship between them sails round the whole Arabian Peninsula in two to three weeks, and a truck arrives in days. That is why neither furniture nor luggage is shipped by sea on this route, and the sea is left for heavy commercial loads whose owner is in no hurry. The full comparison is on the shipping methods comparison page.

Collection from Makkah’s districts and nearby towns

Our team comes to your location in Makkah whatever the district, and packs and loads there: from Az-Zahir, Ar-Rusayfah and An-Naseem to Al-Aziziyah, Al-Awali, Ash-Shawqiyah, Ash-Sharai and Batha Quraysh. The neighbouring towns are covered too, and their shipments join the same Kuwait-bound truck:

Place Distance from Makkah Note
Hotels of the central area Inside Makkah Suitcases and cartons collected from reception
Al-Jumum and Bahrah 20–40 km Collected on the same day as Makkah
Jeddah About 80 km The two shipments are combined in one run
Taif About 90 km On the truck’s road, so it is loaded as the truck passes

The shipment may be ready before the home in Kuwait is. In that case it stays in our warehouse in its packing and with its numbers, and moves only on the date you choose. The terms of the service are on the storage page.

Steps for shipping from Mecca to Kuwait

  1. Contact: we need three things from you: photos of the items, the name of the district or hotel in Makkah, and the area in Kuwait where they will be delivered.
  2. An itemised price: it reaches you with its lines: packing, transport, clearance and delivery.
  3. Booking: you send a copy of your ID and of the consignee’s Civil ID, and we set your loading day at an hour when trucks are allowed in.
  4. Dismantling, packing and numbering: at your location, with a list of contents and photos.
  5. Loading: into the closed truck, and you take the collection receipt and the shipment number.
  6. Export clearance: at Ruqai or Khafji.
  7. Kuwaiti clearance: at Salmi or Nuwaiseeb.
  8. Delivery: to the address, with unloading, assembly and a check against the list.

Tracking and insurance

We do not leave you asking how far your shipment has got. One employee, known to you by name and number, follows it from loading and sends you five messages: when the truck departs Makkah, when it goes through Riyadh, when it gets to the border post, when Kuwaiti clearance is complete, and then ahead of arrival at your door with its time.

  • Tracking: by shipment number, with an update at every stage. Details are on the track your shipment page.
  • Documentation: photos of every piece before packing, and of the loaded truck before it is closed.
  • Insurance: yours to take or leave. The premium is a share of the value you declare, and the cover is for the risks of the road. It is explained on the cargo insurance page.
  • On receipt: inspect the shipment and note any remark on the delivery record before signing.

Shipping from Kuwait to Mecca

What can be shipped from Makkah to Kuwait can also be shipped from Kuwait to Makkah. Our team in Kuwait collects the shipment from its address, it is cleared at the two border posts, and it enters Makkah’s districts in the hours permitted for trucks. Three kinds of shipper use this direction: a Kuwaiti family furnishing its home in Makkah, which sends its furniture with a list of contents; a Saudi who has finished working in Kuwait and brings in his used furniture exempt; and a trader with goods of Kuwaiti origin, which cross into the Kingdom with no duty as long as the certificate of origin is with them.

Tips before shipping from Mecca to Kuwait

  • Book two weeks before Ramadan and Hajj, or choose a date outside them.
  • Tell us if your street is narrow or steep, so we send the right vehicle.
  • Decide whether your shipment can wait some days and go by land, or cannot and goes by air.
  • Have the invoices, list of contents and certificate of origin ready before loading day, not after it.
  • Set aside what you will carry yourself: passports, contracts, gold and medicines.
  • Write your name and number on every suitcase and carton.
  • Ask the building management in Kuwait about booking the service lift before the truck arrives.

How do you choose a shipping company from Mecca to Kuwait?

Common mistakes when shipping from Mecca to Kuwait

  • Booking in Hajj week or at the end of Ramadan.
  • Putting Zamzam water in suitcases or cartons, so the whole shipment is opened.
  • Loading furniture without a list of contents, so it is delayed at the border post.
  • Leaving the campaign’s suitcases without tags, so they get mixed up at distribution.
  • Buying or shipping a car before asking about the age condition in Kuwait.
  • Putting new appliances in quantity with used furniture without declaring them.
  • Comparing two prices without comparing what they include.
