Who ships a car from Madinah to the UAE?
Most requests come from a resident or employee whose work in Madinah has ended and who has moved to Abu Dhabi or Dubai, wanting the car to follow without driving it seventeen hundred kilometres. Next comes someone who has sold a car to a buyer in the UAE, or bought one from a Madinah showroom to register it there. And there is a group particular to Madinah: an Emirati or Gulf visitor who arrived by road and then decided to fly home with the family, leaving the car with us to follow on a carrier.
| Car owner | What is shipped | Most suitable carrier |
|---|---|---|
| Resident or employee relocating to the UAE | The family car, a saloon or a 4×4 | Shared open transporter, or a single-car flatbed when the date is tight |
| Seller or buyer between the two countries | One car on export plates | Open transporter with full clearance and delivery to the buyer |
| Showroom or car dealer | Several cars in one batch | A full transporter dedicated to the batch |
| Owner of a luxury or classic car | A high-value or rare car | Enclosed carrier, or air freight when urgent |
| Visitor who came by road and returns by air | His car on its Emirati or Gulf plates | Single-car flatbed collecting it from the hotel or residence |
| Motorcycle enthusiast or event participant | A motorcycle or a show car | Closed box with special lashing |
Route and transit time for car shipping from Madinah to the UAE
The carrier leaves Madinah eastwards on the Qassim road, passing Al-Hanakiyah and then Buraydah, and comes down to Riyadh after about 850 km. From Riyadh it heads to Al-Ahsa and on to the Batha crossing, some 500 km away. After clearance at Batha and Ghuwaifat it enters Al Dhafra, the first Emirati territory, and reaches Abu Dhabi city 350 km later. The whole route is dual carriageway, so there is no loading or unloading on the way, and the car stays on the same carrier from Madinah to the UAE.
| Stage | Approximate distance | Usual time |
|---|---|---|
| Inspection, photographs and loading in Madinah | — | Half a day |
| Madinah → Riyadh | About 850 km via Qassim | One day |
| Riyadh → Batha crossing | About 500 km via Al-Ahsa | 6–8 hours |
| Clearance at Batha and Ghuwaifat | — | Hours to a day |
| Ghuwaifat → Abu Dhabi | About 350 km through Al Dhafra | About 4 hours |
| Abu Dhabi → Al Ain or Dubai | About 140–160 km | Two hours |
The total time, though, depends on the type of carrier more than on the distance. A carrier taking your car alone leaves on loading day; one that gathers eight cars waits until it is full:
| Carrier type | Door-to-door time | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Covered single-car flatbed | 4–5 days | Anyone wanting a fixed date and collection from the front door |
| Enclosed carrier | 4–6 days | Luxury, sports and classic cars |
| Open multi-car transporter | 5–8 days | Family cars and 4x4s at the lowest price |
| Air freight | Set by the flight available | An urgent or high-value car |
What makes it take longer?
- An export certificate not yet issued, or a traffic fine that turns up on the day you visit the traffic department.
- The open transporter waiting for its cars to be complete in Madinah or in Riyadh.
- A chassis number that differs between the registration and the export certificate, even by one character.
- The consignee, or whoever he authorises in the UAE, being unavailable when customs asks for his presence or his ID.
The timetable for every destination is on the transit times page.
Car shipping prices from Madinah to the UAE
A car is not priced by weight the way cartons are, but by the space it takes on the carrier and by the type of carrier itself. A saloon takes one standard slot, a long 4×4 sometimes takes a slot and a half, and a low car needs a special ramp. These are the prices our services start from, from Madinah all the way to the UAE:
| Vehicle | Carrier | Price starts from |
|---|---|---|
| Saloon car | Open transporter | SAR 2,350 |
| 4×4 or large family car | Open transporter | Set on request by length and weight |
| Luxury, sports or classic car | Enclosed carrier | Set on request |
| Car collected from the door on a fixed date | Covered single-car flatbed | Set on request |
| Motorcycle | Crate inside a closed truck | Set on request |
| Non-running car | Flatbed with a winch | Set on request |
| Car by air freight | Air-cargo pallet | Set on request |
| Comprehensive insurance for the car’s value | Optional | Set on request according to value |
Prices quoted in the market for this route: a saloon from Madinah to Dubai between SAR 2,500 and 3,500, a 4×4 to Abu Dhabi between SAR 3,000 and 4,200, delivery to the door inside the emirate added by some at SAR 300 to 600, and comprehensive insurance at 1% to 2% of the car’s value. Car transport between the two countries in general is offered between SAR 1,500 and 4,500 depending on the city of departure, and on the long routes from the west of the Kingdom it reaches SAR 4,500 to 9,000. So when an offer reaches you, ask first: does it include clearance at both border posts and delivery to the door, or does it end at a yard in the UAE?
Some sums are outside the transport charge with any company, because they are paid to official bodies: the Saudi traffic department’s export-plate fee of SAR 100, UAE customs duty of 5% of the car’s value, 5% VAT, and then Emirati testing, registration and insurance. We tell you about them beforehand so that you count the whole cost, not just the road freight.
| What sets the price | Its effect |
|---|---|
| Size of the vehicle | Length, height and weight decide the space it takes on the carrier |
| Type of carrier | The shared open transporter is cheapest; enclosed and single-car cost more |
| Condition of the car | One that does not run needs a winch at loading and unloading |
| Emirate | Al Dhafra and Abu Dhabi are nearest; Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah are about 250 km further |
| Season | Summer, the end of the school year and the visiting seasons raise demand for carriers |
How do you cut the cost?
- Accept the shared open transporter if your car is not a luxury one and your date is not tight.
- Give us a loading window of three or four days, and we place your car on a carrier that is moving anyway.
- Ship both family cars together, or share with a colleague relocating in the same week.
- Finish the traffic and finance paperwork before booking; a postponement on loading day costs money.
The price items are explained on the pricing factors page.
What is particular about shipping cars from Madinah?
Madinah sits at the head of the Qassim road, so the carrier heads east from the first kilometre and has no need to cross the Hejaz mountains as carriers from Makkah and Taif do. Most of its residential districts are level with wide streets, so the flatbed stops in front of the house and the car is loaded in minutes. The exception is the central area around the Prophet’s Mosque: hotels side by side and pedestrians all day long, with entry for large vehicles regulated by hours the traffic department sets and tightens in Ramadan and Hajj; we confirm the hours in force before loading day.
Madinah has a second particularity that concerns cars specifically. Visitors arrive in their own cars from the Gulf all year round, and some need them returned on a carrier. It has an international airport that serves air freight for an urgent car.
| Particularity | Effect on shipping the car | How we handle it |
|---|---|---|
| Its position on the Qassim road | No mountain passes in the carrier’s way | Loading in Madinah and a direct run to Riyadh |
| Regulated entry for large vehicles to the centre | The long transporter cannot reach the hotels | A small flatbed collects the car and takes it to the transporter outside the centre |
| Gulf visitors with their own cars | Cars on non-Saudi plates going home | They need no Saudi export plates, and we prepare their return papers |
| Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport | An air option for an urgent car | We book from Madinah whenever a suitable aircraft is available, otherwise via Jeddah |
Types of car carrier: open, enclosed or single-car flatbed?
Choosing the carrier is the most important decision in shipping a car, and it accounts for most of the difference in price. The open transporter is the one you see on motorways loaded with cars on two decks, and it is how most showroom and dealership cars travel. The enclosed carrier is a box with closed sides and roof, which no dust enters and whose contents cannot be seen. The single-car flatbed is a small truck carrying one car, and it reaches streets the long transporter cannot enter.
| Comparison | Open transporter | Enclosed carrier | Covered single-car flatbed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Number of cars | 6–8 cars | Usually one or two | One car |
| Weather protection | Exposed to dust and sun | Fully shielded | A protective fabric cover over the car |
| Departure | When the load is complete | On an agreed date | On loading day itself |
| Cost | Lowest | Highest | In between |
Whatever the carrier, the car is secured by its wheels with wide fabric straps that touch neither the body nor the rims, and enough clearance is left between it and the next car. Low cars go up long, shallow ramps so that the front bumper does not scrape. The full comparison of transport methods is on the car shipping page.
Types of vehicle we ship from Madinah to the UAE
We are not limited to saloon cars. Any licensed vehicle that can be exported can be loaded; what differs is the lashing method and the type of carrier. These are the types most requested on this route and what each one needs:
| Vehicle | How it is loaded | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Saloon and hatchback | A standard slot on the open transporter | The easiest and quickest to book |
| 4×4 and large family car | On the lower deck because of height and weight | We need the length, and the height with the roof rack if there is one |
| Luxury and sports car | Enclosed carrier and a shallow ramp | Insurance for the value and detailed photographs of rims and bumpers |
| Classic car | Enclosed carrier, lashed by the wheels only | Original parts and numbers recorded before loading |
| Motorcycle and quad bike | A wooden base or crate inside a closed truck | Fuel almost drained and the battery disconnected |
| Non-running car | A winch onto a flatbed | Tell us beforehand: do the wheels turn, and do the steering and brakes work? |
Electric and hybrid cars travel by road like any other. Larger machinery, such as loaders and cranes, has its own heavy equipment shipping page.
Inspecting and photographing the car in Madinah before shipping it to the UAE

Before the car goes up onto the carrier we inspect it in front of you and write its condition report. That report is the only reference if we disagree about a scratch or a dent on delivery, so we do not rush it. We wash the car, or ask you to wash it first, because dust hides small scratches, and we photograph it in daylight wherever possible.
- Photographs from every side: front, rear, both flanks, all four corners and the roof, then the four rims, the glass and the mirrors.
- Interior photographs: seats, dashboard and screen, with the odometer reading and fuel level in a single shot.
- Existing defects noted: every scratch, chip or crack already present is written in the report and photographed close up.
- Chassis number matched: we compare the number stamped on the car with the registration and the export certificate, character by character.
- Accessories: the number of keys, the spare wheel, the jack, and any fitted additions such as a roof rack.
- Signature: you and the driver sign the report, and we send you a copy with the photographs on WhatsApp.
On delivery in the UAE the inspection is repeated against the same report, and any difference is recorded in the delivery note in front of the driver before signing.
Preparing the car before loading day
Preparing the car takes you an hour and saves the shipment hours at the border. The general rule is to hand us the car as if it were on display for sale: clean, empty and running. What follows is what we ask of every customer:
| Item | What is needed | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Fuel | About a quarter of a tank | Enough for loading, unloading and the test visit, and it reduces weight |
| Personal belongings | Cabin and boot emptied | They are searched at the border, delay clearance and are not insured |
| Battery and tyres | A charged battery and correct tyre pressure | The car is driven up and down the ramp |
| Leaks | Any oil or water leak repaired | It drips onto the car below on a two-deck transporter |
| Alarm and accessories | Alarm disabled; aerial and loose rack removed | So the alarm does not drain the battery and protruding parts are not damaged |
| Keys | One key with the driver, the rest with you | One key is enough for loading, unloading and testing |
The full preparation guide, with a list you can print, is in the car shipping guide.
Export procedure at the Madinah traffic department: certificate and export plates
A car registered in the Kingdom does not leave it for good until its status with the traffic department is changed from “licensed” to “exported”. The procedure in force is that the owner hands in the original plates and receives export plates with an export certificate; with these the car is cleared at the Batha crossing and later registered in the UAE. The traffic fee for export plates is SAR 100. Some steps start online and are completed at the traffic department in Madinah, and the details change from time to time, so we confirm what currently applies before you begin.
- Settle every fine recorded against the vehicle and against your ID, and make sure the registration is valid.
- If the car is financed or under a lien, obtain a no-objection or settlement letter from the finance provider.
- Apply to the traffic department to export the vehicle, naming the destination country.
- Hand in the original plates and receive the export plates and the export certificate.
- Send us a picture of the certificate and the registration; we match the chassis number and prepare the export declaration.
- Hand the car over to us before the period allowed for it to leave the Kingdom runs out.
Export plates carry a limited period within which the car must leave the Kingdom. That is why we advise against obtaining them before we have fixed loading day with you, and against leaving them to the day before it. If you are outside the Kingdom or cannot go to the traffic department yourself, a notarised authorisation for someone to act for you is enough, and we guide you on its wording.
The Batha crossing and UAE customs

The car goes through two clearances in a row. At Batha, Saudi customs checks the export certificate and chassis number and closes the vehicle’s file in the Kingdom. At Ghuwaifat, UAE customs values the car, the duty is paid, and the vehicle clearance certificate is issued, the paper without which the car cannot be registered in any emirate. Our clearing agent at the border receives a copy of the file before the carrier arrives, so the declaration is ready when it does.
| Document | Issued by | Where it is asked for |
|---|---|---|
| Vehicle registration (istimara) | Saudi traffic department | At Batha and Ghuwaifat |
| Export certificate and export plates | Saudi traffic department | At Batha, at Ghuwaifat and on registration |
| Owner’s ID or residence permit and passport | The owner | At both border posts |
| No-objection letter from the finance provider | Bank or finance company | At the traffic department before export |
| Invoice, sale contract or declaration of value | The owner or the seller | At Ghuwaifat, for valuation |
| Consignee’s Emirates ID or residence visa | The consignee | At Ghuwaifat and on registration |
| Notarised authorisation | The owner | If he does not attend in person |
| Item | Rule in force |
|---|---|
| Customs duty | 5% of the car’s value as accepted by customs, plus freight |
| VAT | 5% on the value after duty |
| Car with duty already paid in a GCC state | May be treated differently where the documents prove it; we review the file before shipping |
| Age of a used car | Commonly quoted as no more than ten years for registration; we confirm what applies before shipping |
| Steering | Left-hand drive only |
| Badly damaged and flooded cars | Generally not registered |
You will find every one of these papers defined on the required documents page, and the clearance stages on the customs clearance page.
Registering the car in the UAE after it arrives
The car reaching the consignee’s door does not mean it is ready to drive. The Saudi export plates are temporary, and the consignee has to register the car in the emirate that issued his residence visa. Registration is the owner’s responsibility, but we hand him the file in order and explain the sequence so that he is not sent back and forth between offices:
- Vehicle clearance certificate: issued by customs once the duty is paid; we hand it over with the car.
- Emirati insurance: a policy from an insurer licensed in the country, required before registration.
- Technical test: at the approved testing centres of the emirate, covering safety, emissions and the chassis number.
- Opening the traffic file and issuing plates: with the licensing authority of the emirate; in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain through the Abu Dhabi government’s digital channels and service centres.
- Surrendering the Saudi export plates: they are handed to the licensing authority when the Emirati plates are issued.
Cars built to Gulf specifications pass the test more easily than others, which is the case for most of what Saudi dealerships sell. Destination details are on the shipping to the UAE page.
Temporary entry on your Saudi plates, or permanent export?
Not everyone who takes a car to the UAE needs to export it. Someone travelling on holiday or a short work assignment enters on Saudi plates as a temporary entry, with insurance covering Emirati territory, and comes back with the car. Someone who has moved his residence to the UAE, however, cannot keep a car on foreign plates indefinitely, and has to export it from the Kingdom and register it there. Confusing the two cases costs fines or a needless trip back.
| Comparison | Temporary entry | Permanent export |
|---|---|---|
| For whom | The tourist, the visitor and anyone on a short assignment | The person relocating, the seller and the buyer |
| Plates | The Saudi plates stay on | Export plates, then Emirati plates |
| Customs duty | None, as long as the car will return | 5% plus VAT |
| Papers | Registration, driving licence, insurance covering the UAE, and an authorisation if you are not the owner | The export certificate and the full clearance file |
| Is shipping useful? | Yes, if you want to fly and receive the car there | Yes, and it is the usual choice |
For temporary entry the car is cleared at the border as a temporary entry with the owner or his authorised representative present. For anyone driving on to other countries, the customs passage booklet is explained on the triptik page.
Drive the car yourself or ship it?
The road from Madinah to Abu Dhabi can be covered in two days of steady driving, and many people do just that. But the sum does not stop at fuel. There is a night in Riyadh or Al-Ahsa, seventeen hundred kilometres added to the odometer, wear on tyres and oil, two days of your leave, and then standing at the border post yourself. The comparison below helps you decide:
| Comparison | Driving it yourself | Shipping it on a carrier |
|---|---|---|
| Time | Two days on the road with an overnight stop | 4–8 days, while you fly in two and a half hours |
| Odometer and wear | About 1,700 km more | The odometer stays as it is |
| Road risks | Driver fatigue, and sand and stray camels on some stretches | On a carrier whose driver does nothing but this route |
| Border post | You complete the formalities yourself | A clearing agent completes them for you |
| Suits | Someone who enjoys the road, with an economical car and a flexible date | The family’s second car, a luxury car, and anyone short of time |
Insurance on the car during transport
A car on a carrier is not covered by its ordinary Saudi motor policy, which insures driving on the road, not carriage as cargo. So there are two levels of protection during shipping. The first is the carrier’s liability, written into the transport contract and covering what happens through loading, lashing or an accident to the carrier. The second is optional comprehensive insurance for the value you declare for the car, which we recommend for any high-priced car.
| Item | Carrier’s liability | Optional comprehensive insurance |
|---|---|---|
| What it covers | Loading and lashing damage and accidents to the carrier | Any external damage during the journey, up to delivery |
| Limit of compensation | Within the limits written in the contract | The declared value of the car |
| Cost | Within the transport charge | Set on request according to the car’s value |
| What it excludes | Recorded existing defects and mechanical faults | Belongings inside the car and existing defects |
In both cases there is no compensation without documentation. The condition report signed in Madinah and the delivery note in the UAE are what a claim is built on, which is why we insist on them even with a customer in a hurry. The cover terms are on the cargo insurance page.
Delivering cars from Madinah in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the rest of the UAE

The emirate of Abu Dhabi is the first the carrier enters after Ghuwaifat, so its cars are delivered before any others. The carrier passes through Al Dhafra first, where cars for Al Sila, Ruwais and Madinat Zayed are delivered on crossing day, then Abu Dhabi city, then Al Ain from there. After that it carries on to Dubai, Sharjah and the northern emirates. We deliver the car at the consignee’s door wherever the street allows the carrier to stop; otherwise we lower it onto a small flatbed that takes it to the door, and the consignee receives the key after checking the condition report.
| City | Approximate distance from Madinah | Delivery note |
|---|---|---|
| Al Dhafra: Al Sila and Ruwais | About 1,380–1,470 km | The delivery points nearest the border, housing energy-sector staff |
| Madinat Zayed and Liwa | About 1,580 km | Served by flatbed from the main road |
| Abu Dhabi | About 1,700 km | Some compounds and towers require prior permission for the carrier to enter |
| Al Ain | About 1,800 km | Delivered by way of Abu Dhabi on the same day or the next |
| Dubai | About 1,830 km | In towers, delivery is made at the visitor parking or the rear entrance |
| Sharjah, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain | About 1,860–1,890 km | We avoid rush hours on Emirates Road |
| Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah | About 1,950 km | On the day after crossing the border |
Send us the consignee’s location on the map and an Emirati number to call, and mention whether the compound has a security gate that asks for the vehicle to be registered beforehand. The driver calls the consignee at least two hours before arriving.
Door-to-door car shipping, or delivery at a yard?
Some cheap offers end at an assembly yard on the edge of the Emirati city, leaving the consignee to fetch his car from it on export plates and with no local insurance. Door-to-door service means something else: we collect the car from in front of your house or hotel in Madinah and take it to the consignee’s address, and the assembly, clearance and local transport in between are ours. This is the service we price by default, and we state plainly in the offer when a customer has asked for yard delivery to bring the cost down.
Door collection is especially useful once the export plates are fitted, since driving on them within the city is limited by their validity. And if the car goes with a furniture shipment for the same household, we arrange for the truck and the carrier to move in the same week so they arrive close together; furniture and luggage are covered in the article on shipping from Madinah to the UAE, and the service is explained on the door to door page.
Car shipping for individuals, showrooms, companies and government bodies
An individual ships a car once in years, a showroom ships every month, and a government body or an embassy ships according to official correspondence. The carrier is the same, but the way of working differs: the contract, the invoicing, who signs for receipt, and which extra papers are asked for.
| Customer | What matters to them | What we provide |
|---|---|---|
| Individuals and families | A clear price, a firm date and someone to explain the papers | One member of staff following the job from booking to delivery |
| Showrooms and car dealers | Regular batches and a per-car price that falls with the number | A full transporter on a recurring date, priced by the batch |
| Companies and staff fleets | Moving relocating employees’ cars under one contract | An annual agreement and a single tax invoice |
| Government bodies | Compliance with official letters and purchase orders | An itemised offer and complete documents for each vehicle |
| Embassies and consulates | Diplomats’ cars and their exemptions | Coordination with the clearing agent on the exemption papers before shipping |
| Exhibition and event organisers | Show cars arriving before the opening and returning after it | An enclosed carrier, temporary entry, and the return trip booked in advance |
Is sea freight for cars from Madinah to the UAE suitable?
Generally it is not. Madinah has no port, and the nearest ones are Yanbu and then Jeddah, both on the Red Sea. A ship bound from either to Emirati ports sails round the whole Arabian Peninsula, taking weeks over a distance the carrier covers in days, with the charges of both ports and the haul to them on top. So we do not offer sea on this route; we rely on the road, and on air for urgent cases. Sea freight for cars to distant destinations is explained on the RoRo car shipping page.
Air freight for cars from Madinah to the UAE

Air freight for a car is a real service, but it is not for every car. It is asked for by the owner of a luxury or rare car who does not want it spending days on the road, and by anyone who needs the car by a date that cannot wait for the carrier: an exhibition, a race, or a handover to a buyer. The car is fixed onto a metal pallet and tied down by its wheels, then lifted into the hold of a freighter or a wide-body aircraft whose door is large enough for it.
Madinah has its own airport, Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International, with direct flights to the UAE. But carrying a car requires an aircraft with a hold that can take it, and that is not available on every flight. So we book from Madinah airport whenever the right aircraft exists; otherwise we move the car on an enclosed flatbed to King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah, about 420 km away, and it flies from there. After landing it is cleared and delivered in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain or any other emirate.
- For whom: luxury, sports and classic cars, show and race cars, and urgent cases.
- Preparation: fuel at the minimum the airline requires, the battery disconnected or secured as it instructs, and nothing left in the car.
- Papers: the same as for land freight, plus the air waybill and the dangerous-goods declaration for the vehicle.
- Time: set by the flight available, and still far shorter than the road.
- Price: set on request according to the car’s dimensions and weight and the airport it leaves from.
Service details are on the air freight page.
Collecting cars from the districts of Madinah and its governorates
We collect the car from any district of Madinah: Aziziyah, Difa, King Fahd, Salam, Aqool, Quba, Awali, Khalidiyah and Shuran. The flatbed reaches the spacious districts directly; around the Prophet’s Mosque we collect in the permitted hours or ask the customer to bring the car out to the nearest main street. We also collect from the governorates of the region, and their cars join the same carrier:
| Place | Distance from Madinah | How it is collected |
|---|---|---|
| Residential districts of Madinah | Within the city | Flatbed to the front door, or handover at the assembly point |
| Hotels of the central area | Within the city | Collection from the hotel car park in the permitted hours |
| Al-Hanakiyah | About 110 km | On the carrier’s own road, so it is loaded as the carrier passes |
| Badr and Khaybar | About 150–170 km | A flatbed brings it to Madinah before departure day |
| Yanbu | About 220 km | Grouped with the Madinah cars in one trip |
| Al-Ula and Mahd adh-Dhahab | Further than that | The date is arranged on request |
Flexible dates and temporary storage for the car
You may leave Madinah before your home in the UAE is ready, so we set loading day around your schedule and keep the car with us if need be, in a walled, monitored yard, and it is photographed again on the day it is actually loaded. Remember that the validity of the export plates governs how long the car may remain in the Kingdom, so any long storage comes before the plates are obtained, not after. Details are on the storage page.
Steps for shipping your car from Madinah to the UAE
From the first call to the handover of the key there are eight steps:
- Call or message us on 0552803439 with the car’s type, model and condition, your district in Madinah and the address in the UAE.
- We suggest the suitable carrier and send the price by item: transport, clearance, and insurance if you ask for it.
- You finish the traffic paperwork: fines settled, the finance letter where there is one, then the export certificate and plates.
- We fix loading day, and the flatbed arrives at your door on time.
- We inspect and photograph the car in front of you; you sign the condition report and receive your copy.
- The carrier leaves for Batha, and our clearing agent completes the export and then the import at Ghuwaifat.
- The customs duty is paid and the clearance certificate issued, and the carrier continues to the consignee’s city.
- The consignee checks the car against the report, signs the delivery note and receives the key and the papers.
Tracking the car on the road
Our carriers are fitted with positioning devices, but we do not stop at a dot on a map. You receive a WhatsApp notice at every stage that means something: loading finished in Madinah, arrival in Riyadh, entry into the Batha crossing, exit from Ghuwaifat, and then the expected delivery time to the hour. If the carrier stops for an unusual reason, we tell you why before you ask.
You can also follow the status on the shipment tracking page with your booking number.
Car shipping from the UAE to Madinah
The line works in both directions. We collect the car in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain or Dubai and deliver it in Madinah on the same carriers. But permanent import into the Kingdom has its conditions: the rules in force are that a used light car be no more than five years old, that it conform to Saudi specifications and energy-efficiency requirements, and that it leave the UAE with an export certificate. It carries 5% customs duty and 15% VAT under the rules in force, taking account of any duty already paid in a GCC state. We check the car’s eligibility before loading it so that it does not reach the Batha crossing and get turned back. The general service guide is in the article on car shipping from Saudi Arabia.
Tips before shipping your car from Madinah
- Start with the finance provider’s letter if the car is financed; it is the paper that takes longest.
- Check for fines against both the vehicle and your ID some days before visiting the traffic department.
- Do not obtain the export plates before you have fixed loading day with us.
- Photograph the car with your own phone too on handover day, and keep the pictures until it is registered in the UAE.
- Have the customs duty ready in advance; the car does not leave Ghuwaifat until it is paid.
Common mistakes when shipping a car from Madinah to the UAE
- Booking before making sure the car can be registered in the destination emirate.
- Leaving bags or appliances in the boot in the hope they pass with the car.
- Declaring a value far below the car’s worth to reduce the duty, so customs revalues it and it is delayed.
- Comparing an offer that ends at a yard with one that reaches the door as if they were the same service.
- Handing the car over without a condition report signed by both parties.
- Obtaining the export plates early, only for their validity to run out before the carrier leaves.
- Forgetting a notarised authorisation when the owner is travelling and a relative hands the car over.
How do you choose a car shipping company from Madinah to the UAE?
The lowest price on its own tells you nothing. What does tell you something is what the company writes in its offer and what it does on loading day. These are signs that separate a carrier who knows this line from a broker looking for any empty flatbed:
| Sign | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| A visible commercial registration and a written transport contract | A party that can be held to account if damage occurs |
| An offer separating transport, clearance and official fees | No surprises at the border |
| A photographic condition report before loading | Your rights are protected in any dispute |
| A clearing agent at Batha and Ghuwaifat | The car does not sit for days waiting for someone to finish its declaration |
| Delivery at the door with a signed note | The service ends with the consignee, not at a yard |

Frequently asked questions about car shipping from Madinah to the UAE
How much does it cost to ship a car from Madinah to the UAE?
Shipping a saloon car on an open carrier starts from SAR 2,350 from Madinah to the UAE. Large 4x4s, the enclosed carrier, the single-car flatbed and motorcycles are set on request, because the figure follows the vehicle’s length and weight and the emirate it is going to. Send us the make, model and delivery address on 0552803439 and we give you the number in the same call.
How long does a car take to reach Abu Dhabi or Dubai from Madinah?
Between 4 and 8 days, counted from the day we collect the car in Madinah to the day it is handed over. The single-car flatbed and the enclosed carrier arrive in 4 to 6 days because they leave as soon as they are loaded; the open multi-car transporter can need up to 8 days because it waits for its load to be complete.
How far is Madinah from Abu Dhabi by road?
About 1,700 km: roughly 850 km from Madinah to Riyadh through Qassim, then about 500 km to the Batha crossing, then about 350 km from Ghuwaifat to Abu Dhabi city. Al Ain is about 100 km further, and Dubai about 130 km further.
Which border post does the car enter the UAE through?
From the Saudi Batha post to the Emirati Ghuwaifat post, the land crossing between the two countries. Export clearance is completed at the first; at the second the customs duty is paid and the clearance certificate used to register the car is issued.
Which papers are needed to ship a car from Madinah?
A valid vehicle registration (istimara), the owner’s ID or residence permit and passport, the export certificate with export plates from the traffic department, a no-objection letter from the finance provider if the car is financed, and the consignee’s Emirates ID or residence visa. If the owner cannot attend in person, a notarised authorisation for whoever acts for him.
How do I obtain export plates in Madinah?
The procedure in force is to settle the fines recorded against the vehicle, then apply to the traffic department to export it: you hand in the original plates and receive export plates and their certificate for a traffic fee of SAR 100. Some steps start online and are completed in person, and the details change, so we confirm what currently applies before you go to the traffic department.
Can a financed car, or one still on instalments, be shipped?
Yes, provided the finance provider agrees. The traffic department does not issue an export certificate for a vehicle under a lien without a no-objection or settlement letter from the bank or finance company, so start with that letter before anything else, as it takes longer than any other paper.
How much is customs duty on a car in the UAE?
Customs duty is 5% of the car’s value as accepted by customs plus its freight, followed by 5% VAT. A car whose duty is documented as already paid in a GCC state may be treated differently, so we review its file before shipping. These sums are paid to customs and are not part of the transport charge.
Is there an age limit for registering the car in the UAE?
The rule commonly quoted is that a used car more than ten years past its manufacture is not registered, that it must be left-hand drive, and that it must not be recorded as flood-damaged or written off. Because the condition is applied emirate by emirate and changes, we confirm what applies to your car before you pay anything.
Can I leave personal belongings inside the car?
No. The car is cleared as a vehicle only, and anything inside it exposes it to inspection and delay at the border and is not covered by transit insurance. Leave only the spare wheel, the jack and the original tool kit, and send your belongings with the furniture shipment.
What is the difference between an open and an enclosed carrier?
The open carrier takes several cars on two decks and is the cheapest; the car on it is exposed to dust and sun much as it would be on the road. The enclosed carrier is a locked box taking one or two cars, shielding them from the weather and from view, and it suits luxury, sports and classic cars and anything recently repainted.
Do you fly cars out of Madinah?
Yes, for luxury and urgent cars. The car is loaded on an air-cargo pallet at Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport whenever an aircraft that can take it is available; otherwise it is moved to King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah. The price is set on request according to the car’s dimensions and weight and the flight available.
Is insurance on the car included in the price?
The carrier’s basic liability is included and written into the contract. Comprehensive insurance for the car’s value is an optional item whose premium is set on request according to that value, and we recommend it for any high-priced car. The market commonly quotes a premium of 1% to 2% of the value.
When should I book my car shipment?
Two weeks before the loading date if you can, and earlier ahead of Ramadan, Hajj and the summer. Two weeks are enough to settle fines, obtain the finance letter and the export certificate, and to reserve a place on a carrier leaving on the day that suits you.
Do you ship cars from the UAE to Madinah?
Yes, along the same road in reverse. For permanent import into the Kingdom the rules in force require that a light car be no more than five years old, that it conform to Saudi specifications and energy-efficiency requirements, and it carries customs duty and VAT. We check the car’s eligibility before loading it.
