Who ships from Madinah to Oman, and what do they ship?

The Omani visitor to the Prophet’s Mosque is among the people we serve most on this line. He arrives with one suitcase and goes home with three: dates for the family, rugs, prayer beads and gifts. Alongside him are the Omani who has finished studying or working in Madinah and is returning with a whole home, the resident whose job has moved to Muscat or Sohar, and the date trader supplying the Sultanate’s markets before Ramadan. They do not ship the same things or in the same way, and the table sums up what suits each:

Shipper What they ship Most suitable method
An Omani visitor to the Prophet’s Mosque Suitcases, gifts and cartons of dates By the carton or the kilogram by land, or air for urgent items
An Omani returning home A home’s furniture, appliances and a car Full truck and car carrier
An employee or student moving to Oman A bedroom, books and cartons Shared load
Someone sending to family in the Sultanate Parcels, small devices and documents Door-to-door parcels, or air
A trader in dates and goods Ajwa and Safawi, rugs, prayer beads and perfumes By the pallet or the truck, with an invoice and certificate of origin
Companies, official bodies and embassies Office furniture, equipment and files A dedicated truck on a fixed date

Land freight from Madinah to Oman through the Empty Quarter

Land freight from Madinah to Oman through the Empty Quarter

The road crosses the Kingdom from its west to its south-eastern corner. The truck leaves Madinah eastwards on the Qassim road, passes Al-Hanakiyah and then Buraydah, and reaches Riyadh after about 850 km. From Riyadh it heads down to Al-Kharj and Haradh, then joins the Empty Quarter road at the Batha junction and covers 564 km on it to the Saudi border post. After the Omani Ramlat Khaliya post, 161 km remain to the wilayat of Ibri, then Nizwa and Muscat. This is a route with a single border, directly between the two countries, with no third country to cross.

Before the truck enters the desert it stops at the last inhabited station. There the driver checks the tyres and their pressure, fills up with fuel and water, and makes sure the doors of the box and their seals are tight. After that the stations are far apart, and a breakdown halfway costs a full day. That is why we send on this line only a truck that was inspected before the trip, and a driver who has driven the road before.

Stage Approximate distance What happens on it
Madinah → Riyadh About 850 km via Qassim A flat motorway; shipments from Al-Hanakiyah join at the start
Riyadh → Batha junction Via Al-Kharj and Haradh The final check, and filling up with fuel and water before the desert
Empty Quarter road 564 km to the border post Open dunes and stations far apart
Empty Quarter post ↔ Ramlat Khaliya — Saudi export, then Omani clearance
Ramlat Khaliya → Ibri 161 km The first Omani town, where distribution branches out
Ibri → Nizwa → Muscat About 300 km Delivery to the addresses

The Sultanate has a second land gate on the UAE side: the truck crosses the Batha border post, then enters Oman at Buraimi or North Al Batinah. We take it only when your destination is in the north, because it adds a second border and a transit declaration. The comparison shows the difference:

Comparison The direct route through the Empty Quarter The route through the UAE
Number of borders One border Two borders, with a transit crossing
Documents Saudi export and Omani clearance A transit declaration in the UAE is added
Enters Oman at Ibri in Ad Dhahirah governorate Buraimi or North Al Batinah
Best for Ibri, Nizwa, Muscat, Sur, Duqm and Salalah Buraimi, Sohar, North Al Batinah and Musandam
Services on the road Few, so the truck sets off fully equipped Available all along it

Details of the service are on the land freight page.

Transit time from Madinah to Oman

The driving hours alone between Madinah and Muscat exceed 24, and the driver does not do them in one stretch, so they are spread over three days. Before them comes a day for dismantling, packing and loading, clearance at the two border posts falls in between, and a day for distribution and unloading follows. So five days is the shortest realistic door-to-door time. A shared load takes longer, because it waits for the truck to fill and is then unloaded in more than one wilayat.

Method Door-to-door time Suits
Full truck 5–7 days A full home’s furniture and goods by the truck
Shared load 7–10 days One or two rooms, cartons and a few pallets
Car carrier 5–8 days Cars
Parcels and luggage by land 7–10 days Visitors’ suitcases, gifts and dates
Air from Madinah airport One to 3 days Documents and urgent parcels

What lengthens the time?

  • Seasonal crowds: the central area around the Prophet’s Mosque fills with visitors in Ramadan and Hajj and the traffic department narrows the hours when trucks may enter, so anyone who has not booked early waits his turn to load.
  • Waiting for consolidation: shared runs to Oman are fewer than those to the UAE, so a small shipment waits until the truck is full.
  • A distant destination: Salalah, Duqm and Musandam add one to two days on top of Muscat.
  • A missing paper: the border post is in the middle of the desert, with no office nearby to issue one.
  • Weather: sandstorms in the Empty Quarter can halt traffic for hours, and the khareef mist in Dhofar between June and September slows the descent to Salalah.

The table of times for all destinations is on the transit times page.

Shipping prices from Madinah to Oman

More than two thousand kilometres make distance the first thing that enters the price, and what you ship comes next. A parcel is charged by its weight, furniture by the space it takes up in the truck, and a car by the type of its carrier. The delivery city has a clear effect here, because Salalah is about 1,000 km from Muscat. These are the prices our services start from, from your door in Madinah to the consignee’s door:

What you ship To Muscat and around To Salalah
A parcel up to 5 kg Starts from SAR 41 Starts from SAR 50
A carton Starts from SAR 140 Starts from SAR 140
Items above 50 kg Starts from SAR 5.5 per kilogram Starts from SAR 7.4 per kilogram
A complete bedroom Starts from SAR 2,300 Starts from SAR 3,200
A flat’s furniture Starts from SAR 4,600 Set on request
A car on a carrier Starts from SAR 3,500 Set on request
Air freight from Madinah airport Starts from SAR 14 per kilogram Via Muscat
Documents by express Starts from SAR 83 Set on request
A full truck of dates or goods Set on request Set on request

The prices circulating in the market for this line are mostly higher than that: a small parcel from SAR 450, electronics between SAR 700 and 1,200, partial furniture from SAR 3,500, a full home’s furniture from SAR 6,500, and a car from SAR 9,000. Most of those working the line do not publish their prices at all. So use the table as a benchmark for any figure you receive, and always ask what it covers: does it include packing, clearance and unloading, or transport alone?

What sets the price Its effect
Volume The first factor for furniture. Work it out with the CBM calculator
Weight Governs parcels and air freight, taking the greater of actual and volumetric
Full truck or shared A full truck is faster and dearer; in a shared one you pay for your space only
Delivery city Ibri, Nizwa and Muscat are on the road; Salalah, Duqm and Musandam are further
Route Direct through the Empty Quarter, or through the UAE with its transit declaration
Services and season Dismantling, packing, assembly and insurance are items listed in the offer, and demand is higher in Ramadan and Hajj

How do you reduce the cost?

  • Sort before packing. Whatever costs less in Muscat than the fare for carrying it 2,200 km is better sold in Madinah.
  • Choose a shared load if your date can bear three extra days.
  • Do not send suitcases and cartons separately. Once they pass 50 kg together they are charged by the kilogram, which costs far less than pricing each parcel on its own.
  • Obtain the certificate of origin for dates and Saudi goods, and the 5% duty falls away.
  • Book two weeks before Ramadan and Hajj, or choose a date outside them.

What goes into the price is set out on the pricing factors page.

What is particular to shipping from Madinah?

Madinah has three advantages on this line and two constraints. The first advantage is that its truck heads east from the first kilometre on the Qassim road, with no mountain climb. The second is that it has an international airport, so an urgent shipment does not travel to Jeddah first. The third is that most of its districts are flat with wide streets, so the truck stops at the door of the house. The two constraints are the surroundings of the Prophet’s Mosque, where there are hotels and pedestrians and no room for a truck, and the entry of large trucks to the city centre during hours set by the traffic department, which tighten in the seasons. We confirm the hours in force before loading day.

Madinah has a station on the Haramain high-speed railway, but it is a passenger train that carries no freight. So a visitor who came by train or by plane and has extra luggage hands it to us in Madinah and travels light. Zamzam water does not go into any shipment, from Makkah or from Madinah.

Particularity Its effect on your shipment How we handle it
The direct Qassim road No mountain passes, and eastward movement from the start We add shipments from Al-Hanakiyah on the same trip
An international airport in the city Air freight leaves from Madinah itself We hand the shipment over at Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz Airport, with Jeddah as the fallback when needed
Regulated truck entry to the centre Loading in set hours We fix the appointment in advance within the permitted time
Hotels in the central area No room for a truck to stop A small vehicle collects suitcases and cartons from reception
Visiting seasons Crowding in Ramadan and Hajj Booking two weeks before the season, or storage until after it
Distance from the sea The nearest port is Yanbu, about 220 km away Land freight is the mainstay to Oman

Furniture shipping from Madinah to Muscat

Furniture shipping from Madinah to Muscat

The furniture of a home moving to Muscat stays in the truck for at least three days, hundreds of kilometres of them in a hot desert. The hardest part of it is the kitchen. The cabinets are fixed to the walls, the marble is heavy and easily broken, and the appliances are built into the woodwork. So we start with the kitchen before anything else: we photograph it whole and draw its layout, then dismantle the units one by one and number them in the order of their place on the wall, so it is reassembled in Oman as it was.

Our advice before shipping a kitchen is to send us the measurements of the kitchen in the new home in Muscat. If the length of the wall or the position of the water and electricity differs, we know before loading what will be fitted as it is and what needs altering by a carpenter, and you do not pay to carry a piece that will have no place.

  • Kitchen cabinets: dismantled and numbered, with their hinges, handles and screws in bags taped to each unit.
  • Marble and granite: in padded wooden crates, carried upright on its edge rather than flat.
  • Oven, hood and hob: disconnected from gas and electricity a day ahead, and each appliance packed in its carton with foam.
  • Fridge and washing machine: emptied and dried a day ahead, with the shelves and the washer drum secured.
  • Bedrooms and sitting rooms: blankets and then corrugated cardboard for wood, and a sealed wrap for sofas and mattresses.
  • Crockery and glass: paper and dividers inside double-wall cartons, with no carton above 20 kg.
  • Assembly in Oman: our team there takes each piece into its room, assembles the kitchen and the rooms, and removes the packing waste.

Details of the service are on the furniture shipping page.

Packing that withstands the desert road

Packing on this line has two enemies that do not show up in moves within cities: heat and sand. The heat of the box in summer softens cheap tape, and the cartons open by themselves. Plastic wrap that touches lacquered wood directly can stick to it and leave a mark. And fine sand creeps into every open gap. So we put the blanket or cardboard on the wood first and the wrap after it, use tape that tolerates heat, and close every opening.

Piece Packing materials The reason
Lacquered and glossy wood A blanket, then corrugated cardboard, then wrap Stops the plastic sticking to the finish in the heat
Sofas and mattresses A sealed wrap on all sides Keeps sand out of the fabric
Glass, mirrors and marble Foam and a wooden crate Protects against prolonged vibration
Electrical appliances A sealed bag, then foam and reinforced cardboard Closes the ventilation openings to sand
Books, clothes and crockery Double-wall cartons, numbered with the name of the room They bear stacking and make distribution easier on unloading

Every carton and piece takes a number in the inventory list, which is the same list presented to Omani customs and checked against on delivery. Packing methods are in the packing guide.

Full truck or shared load?

This is the first decision in land freight, and it changes both price and time. A full truck is yours alone: it sets off on your loading day, takes the shortest road to your door, and is opened only at the border post. A shared load combines your shipment with those of others, so you pay for your space only, and it waits for the truck to fill. If your destination is Muscat, Nizwa or Ibri, a shared load is practical, because the three towns are on one line. If it is Salalah or Duqm, ask about the date of the run before you decide.

Comparison Shared load Full truck
You pay for Your shipment’s space only The whole truck
Time to Muscat 7–10 days 5–7 days
Departure Once the truck is full On loading day
Handling May be moved between two trucks Loaded once and unloaded once
Best for Up to about three rooms A full home or a large quantity of goods

What you load decides which truck we send: furniture and general goods go in a closed box, equipment on a flatbed, and anything needing cooling in a refrigerated unit. An open truck never takes furniture with us on the Empty Quarter road.

Shipping parcels and visitors’ luggage from Madinah to Oman

A visitor counts the weight of his suitcase on arrival and forgets it on the way back. A carton of dates from the central market, two rugs and gifts for the children, and the excess weight becomes dearer than the gifts themselves. The answer is for your luggage to travel by land: we collect it from your hotel or accommodation in Madinah, give you a waybill with the tracking number and the number and weight of the pieces, and deliver it to your address in your wilayat. A resident sending a parcel to family uses the same service.

Parcel How it is charged Price to Muscat Note
Small parcel Up to 5 kg Starts from SAR 41 Gifts, prayer beads, copies of the Quran and clothes
Carton By the carton Starts from SAR 140 Double-wall, and no more than 30 kg
A lot of luggage and cartons By the kilogram above 50 kg Starts from SAR 5.5 per kilogram The most economical for a family or one visiting group
Urgent parcel or documents Air, on chargeable weight Starts from SAR 14 per kilogram Arrives in one to 3 days

Every suitcase and carton carries a label with the consignee’s name, wilayat and Omani mobile number. Four things stay out of parcels: Zamzam water, cash, gold and any medicine not accompanied by a prescription. The remaining conditions are on the parcel shipping page.

Shipping electronics and electrical appliances

Appliances are shipped with the furniture in the same truck, and there is no need to separate them into a shipment of their own. But they need care of their own, because long vibration loosens whatever is not secured, and sand gets in through the ventilation openings. So we seal each device in a bag before its carton, place it on top of the heavy pieces rather than under them, and record its serial number in the list.

  • Screens: in their original carton or a padded wooden crate, and carried upright.
  • Phones, computers and cameras: in their boxes inside a second padded carton. Urgent ones go by air.
  • Air conditioners: before removal a technician traps the gas in the outdoor unit, then the openings of the indoor and outdoor units are plugged so the road’s sand stays out.
  • New devices in their boxes: declared with their invoice, and subject to Omani value added tax.
  • Electricity: you need neither a converter nor new plugs, as Oman’s supply is 240 volts and its sockets are the type used in the Kingdom.
  • Anything of value: photographed while working before packing, declared at its value, and insured.

Shipping dates and commercial goods, and solutions for companies

The Madinah region is the Kingdom’s third-largest date producer, and its central market sells Ajwa, Safawi, Sukkari and Medjool to visitors and traders. Omani demand for these varieties rises before Ramadan and the Eids. Saudi Arabia and Oman are in one customs union, so dates and goods of Saudi origin cross with no customs duty when accompanied by a valid certificate of origin. Along with the dates go the goods of Madinah’s markets: rugs, prayer beads, perfumes, incense and ihram clothing.

A company that supplies regularly is not well served by asking for a price for every shipment. We agree with it on periodic runs at a contract price, on a fixed loading day, and on temporary storage in our warehouse for whatever accumulates between runs. After every shipment it receives a report on its status and its delivery record, which makes it easy for its accountant and purchasing officer to follow what was sent.

Goods How they are shipped What they need
Dates by the carton for individuals In a shared load, away from heavy items A description of the contents and the consignee’s address
Commercial dates By the pallet or the truck, loaded late at night in summer An invoice, a certificate of origin and a data label with production and expiry dates
Rugs, prayer beads and clothing By the carton or the pallet An invoice and a packing list
Perfumes and incense By land, stating the type and quantity Restricted in air freight
Equipment and industrial materials On pallets or a flatbed truck depending on size An invoice, a certificate of origin and an HS code for each item

Commercial foodstuffs are subject to requirements from the Omani authorities on the data label and the permit, and we go over what is needed with the importer before loading. Details are on the commercial shipping page.

Car shipping from Madinah to Oman

Driving a car from Madinah to Muscat means more than 2,200 km on its wheels, a large part of it in a desert where stations are far apart. A carrier spares all of that. We inspect the car and photograph it from every side, sign a record of its condition and odometer with the owner, and then its wheels are secured on the carrier with straps that stop it moving. It is handed over in Oman matching the record. The price starts from SAR 3,500 to Muscat. Road transport is the standard on this line; a sea container is asked for only for a car bound for Salalah whose owner is in no hurry.

Item Detail
Export from the Kingdom Paying any fines, then an export certificate from the traffic department and surrender of the plates
Age rule Under current practice, a used private passenger car that has completed 7 years since manufacture is not accepted for registration in the Sultanate, and the limit for trucks and buses is 10 years. We check the rule in force before the car moves
Customs duty 5% of the car’s value if its duty has not been paid in the Gulf before
Registration in Oman A technical inspection with the Royal Oman Police, then insurance and plates
A luxury car An enclosed carrier that protects the paint and glass from sand and gravel, and insurance at value
Before loading A car empty of belongings, a quarter tank of fuel, and photos from every side

Start with the year of manufacture written on the registration: if the car is refused registration, it returns to Madinah for a second transport fare over the very same road. The article car shipping from Saudi Arabia covers the general conditions, and the car shipping page covers the service.

The Empty Quarter border post and Omani customs clearance

The shipment is cleared twice: export at the Saudi post, and import at Ramlat Khaliya. What sets this post apart is that it is far from everything. The nearest town is hundreds of kilometres away, and Madinah is about 1,900 km behind it. So a missing paper cannot be made good there. That is why the file is completed in Madinah before the truck moves: we go over the documents with you, send a copy to our clearing agent at the post, and the declaration is filed electronically before arrival, so the truck stays only for the time of the inspection.

  • Customs duty: 5% of the value of the goods and their freight on most items of foreign origin.
  • Value added tax: 5% in Oman on new goods, collected on import.
  • Saudi and Gulf origin: no customs duty on a certificate of origin, Madinah dates included.
  • A mover’s used furniture and belongings: usually exempt with a detailed list of contents.
  • Restricted items: foodstuffs, medicines and cosmetics with permits from the Omani authorities, and we tell you about them before packing.

The full procedures are on the customs clearance page.

Documents required for shipping to Oman

What is asked of you follows the type of shipment. A visitor’s suitcase needs only a description and an address, a home’s furniture needs a detailed list, and goods do not cross without an invoice. We ask for photos of the documents on booking and check them before loading day, not while the truck is on the road.

Type of shipment Charges in Oman Documents
Used furniture and belongings Exempt for someone moving to live there The ID or residence permit, proof of the consignee’s residence or work in Oman, and a detailed list of contents
Dates and goods of Saudi or Gulf origin No customs duty, with 5% tax on new items An invoice, a packing list and a certificate of origin
Goods of foreign origin 5% if not paid before, plus the tax An invoice, a packing list and proof that the duty was paid
A car 5% if not paid before The registration, the export certificate and the owner’s ID
Personal parcels and suitcases Exempt within the limits of personal use A description of the contents and their value, and the consignee’s address and Omani number

Each document is explained on the required documents page.

What cannot be shipped to Oman or needs a permit

A single prohibited item in a single carton stops the whole truck for inspection and delays other people’s shipments with it. So we go over the list of contents with you before packing and leave out whatever will not cross. These are the main items:

Item Ruling
Zamzam water Its export is restricted, and it is not shipped with goods or in parcels
Alcohol and drugs Prohibited
Weapons, ammunition and fireworks Prohibited or by licence
E-cigarettes and electronic shisha Prohibited in Oman
Medicines Personal quantities with a prescription; commercial ones by permit
Palm offshoots, seeds and plants With a phytosanitary certificate
Drones and radio devices With a prior permit
Flammable materials and gas cylinders Not loaded with furniture
Cash, gold and original documents They stay with you and are not shipped
Counterfeit goods Confiscated

The general list is on the prohibited items page.

Shipping destinations within Oman

The Sultanate’s towns are far apart, and where your town lies on the truck’s road is what explains the time and the price. A truck coming from the Empty Quarter reaches Ibri first, then branches: east to Nizwa, Muscat and Sur, and south to Duqm and Salalah. Buraimi and Sohar are closer to the other road, the one coming from the UAE.

City Governorate Its place on the road
Ibri Ad Dhahirah The first town, 161 km after the border
Nizwa Ad Dakhiliyah About 150 km after Ibri, on the Muscat road
Muscat, Seeb, Bawshar and Muttrah Muscat About 300 km after Ibri, and the most requested
Sohar North Al Batinah An industrial city and port, also served through the UAE
Buraimi Al Buraimi Adjoining Al Ain, and served through the UAE
Sur South Ash Sharqiyah About 200 km south-east of Muscat
Duqm Al Wusta An economic zone and port on the Arabian Sea
Salalah Dhofar About 1,000 km south of Muscat, on a run that heads down from Ibri via Haima and Thumrait

The capital is a long strip squeezed between the mountains and the sea, so one district can be a long way from the next. That is why we need a complete address: the wilayat, then the area, then the way number and building number, plus an Omani mobile for the consignee. Tell us which floor the home is on and whether a lift serves it. The rest of the destination details are on the shipping to Oman page.

Delivering shipments from Madinah in Nizwa, and inland transport in Oman

Delivering shipments from Madinah in Nizwa

Nizwa is one of the easiest Omani towns to deliver to on this line, because it is on the truck’s own road. After Ibri the truck passes Bahla and then enters Nizwa, about 150 km before Muscat. So a Nizwa shipment is unloaded half a day or more before the capital’s, and needs no second transfer. Most of what we deliver there is the furniture of returning families, visitors’ cartons and goods for the souq’s shops.

Our role does not end when the border is crossed. After clearance we arrange the delivery time with the consignee by phone and choose the vehicle that suits his street. The old quarters of Nizwa and Bahla are narrow, so the truck stops at the nearest wide road and a small vehicle completes the way to the door. Then the team unloads and checks the pieces against the numbered list.

  • On the road: Ibri, Bahla, Nizwa, Izki and Samail are delivered on the Muscat run itself.
  • Branching from Nizwa: Manah, Adam and Al Hamra are served by a distribution vehicle from Nizwa.
  • Unloading and assembly: bedrooms, wardrobes and kitchens are assembled on delivery day or the day after.
  • Homes, companies and government premises: we deliver inside the site, not at the gate.
  • Salalah and Sohar: Salalah on its own southern run, and Sohar via the northern road.

The service is explained on the door-to-door shipping page.

Our services for individuals, companies, government bodies and embassies

The truck is one and the road is one, but each client looks at the shipment from his own side. A family cares that the home arrives as it left. A trader cares about the date and the invoice. An official body, an embassy and an international organisation care about procedure, records and privacy. So we arrange the service around who is shipping:

Client What matters to them What we provide
Individuals and families Safe furniture and a price with no surprises A survey by photos, dismantling, packing and assembly, and an itemised price
Visitors and visiting groups Collection from the hotel and delivery in the wilayat Every suitcase numbered with its owner’s name, and a collection receipt
Companies and date traders The date, the documents and continuity of supply Periodic runs at a contract price, tax invoices, and a report for every shipment
Government bodies Advance coordination and records A dedicated truck, a signed inventory, and delivery inside the premises
Embassies and international organisations Privacy and exemption documents Coordination of the exemption papers, sealed packing for files, and one person responsible for the shipment

Is sea freight from Madinah to Oman a good fit?

Only in a few cases. Madinah has no port; the nearest is Yanbu, about 220 km away, and after it Jeddah Islamic Port, about 420 km away. The container sails south down the Red Sea to the port of Salalah, or continues round the peninsula to Sohar. With transport to the port, waiting for the vessel and clearance at both ends, the time stretches to two weeks or more. So sea freight suits a heavy commercial container bound for Dhofar whose owner is in no hurry. For furniture, luggage, dates and cars, the truck is faster and simpler, and is loaded once from door to door. The full comparison is on the shipping methods comparison page.

Air freight from Madinah to Oman

Air freight from Madinah to Oman

When the land route takes a week, air becomes the answer for everything light that cannot wait. From Madinah, air freight leaves from Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport itself, which has direct flights to Muscat International Airport that take about three hours. We collect the shipment from your door or hotel, hand it over at the airport, and it reaches the consignee in one to 3 days, including clearance at both airports. If no flight suits the size of the shipment or its date, we divert it to King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah.

  • For whom: documents, urgent parcels, small electronics, commercial samples and spare parts.
  • Charging: on the greater of actual and volumetric weight. Work it out with the volumetric weight calculator.
  • Price: air freight starts from SAR 14 per kilogram, and documents by express from SAR 83.
  • When land is the better fit: above 50 kilograms land becomes far more economical, starting from SAR 5.5 per kilogram.
  • Salalah, Sohar and Nizwa: their shipments arrive by air in Muscat and are then delivered by road to the address.
  • What it does not suit: furniture, large appliances, liquids, perfumes in quantity and loose batteries.

Collection from Madinah’s districts and governorates

The packing and loading crew comes to wherever you live in Madinah, whether in Quba, Awali, Shuran or Khalidiyah, or in Aziziyah, Difa, Salam, Aqool and the King Fahd district. The region’s governorates are covered too, and what we collect there rides the same Madinah trip:

Place Distance from Madinah Note
Hotels in the central area Within the city Suitcases and cartons collected from reception by a small vehicle
Al-Hanakiyah About 110 km On the Qassim road itself, so it is loaded on the way
Badr About 150 km Collected the day before departure
Khaybar About 170 km Collected the day before departure
Yanbu About 220 km Combined with Madinah’s shipments in one trip

Your travel date may come before your home in the Sultanate is handed over. In that case the shipment waits in our warehouse in its packing and with its inventory list, and does not move until you give us the date that suits you. This is explained on the storage page.

Collection and delivery appointments: how do we arrange them with you?

The schedule on this line is built from both ends. In Madinah we choose the collection day and hour to suit you and the hours when trucks may enter. In Oman we call the consignee a day before arrival to fix the delivery hour. In between, we time the truck’s arrival at the border post for clearance working hours, so that it does not spend the night there. If your travel date changes or your new home is handed over late, we adjust the appointment or store the shipment, and tell you what that entails before it happens.

  • Usual booking: three days to a week before loading day.
  • In the seasons: two weeks before Ramadan and Hajj.
  • An urgent shipment: a full truck that sets off on loading day, or air for light items.
  • Changing the appointment: possible before loading, with temporary storage when needed.

Steps for shipping from Madinah to Oman

  1. Contact: you send what you are shipping with its photos, your district or hotel in Madinah, and your town in Oman.
  2. Choosing the method and the route: land or air, and directly through the Empty Quarter or through the UAE for the north of the Sultanate.
  3. Itemised price: it reaches you by item: dismantling, packing, transport, clearance and assembly.
  4. Booking: we fix the loading day and its permitted hour, and ask for photos of the documents.
  5. Packing and loading: at your location, with a numbered list of contents and photos, then the truck is sealed.
  6. Export clearance: at the Empty Quarter border post, with its file ready before arrival.
  7. Omani clearance: at Ramlat Khaliya, or at the entry post from the UAE.
  8. Delivery: to the address, with unloading and assembly if you asked for it, and signing of the delivery record.

Safety standards, tracking and insurance

A shipment’s safety is made before the truck moves. Heavy items go at the bottom, breakables at the top, and the load is tied with straps and dividers that stop it sliding under braking. The driver on this line knows the desert road and its stations. There are stretches of the Empty Quarter where mobile coverage weakens, so we tell you in advance when the next update will reach you: when the truck leaves Madinah, when it passes Riyadh, when it enters the desert road, when Omani clearance is finished, and with the time of arrival at your door.

  • Tracking: by waybill number, with an update at every stage. Details are on the shipment tracking page.
  • Documentation: photos of every piece before packing and after loading.
  • One person responsible: you know his name and number from loading day to delivery day.
  • Insurance: for those who ask for it, with a premium set as a share of the value you declare. A road of more than two thousand kilometres is reason enough for us to advise it. It is explained on the cargo insurance page.
  • On receipt: check the pieces against the list, and note any remark on the delivery record before signing.

Shipping from Oman to Madinah

The service also runs the opposite way, from the Sultanate to Madinah. Our team in Oman collects from your home in Muscat, Nizwa, Sohar or Salalah, the shipment goes through clearance at Ramlat Khaliya and then at the Empty Quarter post, and it is unloaded in your district of Madinah within the time the traffic department allows trucks. Three kinds of customer use this direction: a Saudi who has finished a job in the Sultanate, whose used furniture comes in exempt when a list of contents accompanies it; a trader importing goods of Omani origin, which pay no duty in the Kingdom with the certificate of origin; and an Omani visitor who sends his luggage ahead and finds it at his accommodation in Madinah the day he arrives.

Home Safe’s tips before shipping from Madinah to Oman

  • Sort the contents of your home before the survey, and do not ship what you will not use in Oman.
  • Photograph every valuable piece before packing, and keep the photos with the inventory list.
  • Choose the method by what you ship: land for furniture and heavy items, air for the light and urgent.
  • Prepare the documents before loading day, because the border post is remote and a paper cannot be made good there.
  • Put no prohibited item and no Zamzam water in any carton, and ask us about any item you are unsure of.
  • Send the measurements of the kitchen and rooms in the new home before shipping.
  • Book two weeks before Ramadan and Hajj, and write the Omani address with the wilayat and mobile number.

How do you choose a shipping company from Madinah to Oman?

Listen to the questions before you listen to the price. Whoever knows this line asks you first about your town in Oman, because it decides the border post and the time. Then he asks about the volume, the date and whether the furniture is used. Whoever gives you a figure before asking has calculated nothing. These are signs to tell them apart:

What you ask about A reassuring sign A warning sign
The route Asks about your town, then names the border post One route for every town in Oman
The time 5 days or more, and distinguishes Muscat from Salalah A promise of three days for a home’s furniture from Madinah
The price Itemised after learning the volume and the town A single figure with no breakdown
The truck Closed, with tightly sealed doors Open with a tarpaulin across the desert
Madinah’s seasons Allows for Ramadan, Hajj and entry hours Promises loading on any day and from anywhere
Registration Commercial registration, a collection receipt and a waybill A mobile number only

Common mistakes when shipping from Madinah to Oman

  • Shipping a car that has reached 7 years without checking the registration rule, so it comes back at its owner’s expense.
  • Putting Zamzam water in the cartons, so the whole shipment is opened.
  • Shipping commercial dates without a data label or a certificate of origin.
  • Light packing that does not stop the road’s sand reaching the inside of appliances.
  • Shipping the kitchen without knowing the measurements of the new kitchen.
  • Treating Salalah as if it were Muscat in time and price.
  • Booking in the last ten days of Ramadan or in the days of Hajj.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Madinah to Oman

How much does shipping from Madinah to Oman cost?

It depends on what you ship. To Muscat: a parcel up to 5 kg from SAR 41, a carton from SAR 140, luggage over 50 kg from SAR 5.5 a kilogram, a bedroom from SAR 2,300, the furniture of a flat from SAR 4,600, and a car carrier from SAR 3,500. A bedroom to Salalah starts from SAR 3,200. For an itemised price call 0552803439.

How long does shipping from Madinah to Oman take?

The time is counted from your door in Madinah to the consignee’s door: a full truck takes between 5 and 7 days and a shared load between 7 and 10. Air from Madinah airport arrives within one to 3 days.

What is the fastest way to ship furniture from Madinah to Oman?

A full truck. It sets off on loading day and reaches Muscat in 5 to 7 days. Air freight is faster, but it only suits a few light pieces because it is charged by the kilogram. Sea freight is the slowest of the three.

How is the shipping price from Madinah to Oman calculated?

Furniture is charged by volume, meaning the space it takes up in the truck. Parcels and air freight are charged on the greater of actual and volumetric weight. Then come the delivery city in Oman and the services you ask for, such as dismantling, packing, assembly and insurance.

How far is Madinah from Muscat?

The road distance ranges between 2,200 and 2,350 km. It begins with about 850 km that the truck covers from Madinah to Riyadh by way of Qassim; past Al-Kharj and Haradh it joins the Empty Quarter road, which runs 564 km to the border post. From the border to Ibri is 161 km, and from Ibri to Muscat about 300 km.

Which border post does the shipment enter Oman through?

The direct route has one border: the truck leaves the Kingdom at the Empty Quarter post and enters the Sultanate at Ramlat Khaliya, and the first wilayat after it is Ibri. We take the UAE road only for shipments to Buraimi, Sohar and Musandam.

Is there air freight directly from Madinah?

Yes, and the shipment does not have to travel to Jeddah first. The direct flight from Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport to Muscat is about three hours. Jeddah airport is our fallback when no flight out of Madinah has room for the size of the shipment.

Can electronics be shipped together with furniture?

Yes, in the same truck. Each device is packed in its carton with foam and a sealed bag against sand, placed on top of the heavy pieces rather than under them, and its serial number is recorded in the list of contents.

Do you ship Madinah dates to Oman?

Yes, in two ways. Individuals send Ajwa, Safawi and other kinds in cartons, while traders load by the pallet or book a truck. Commercial packs travel with a certificate of origin and carry a data label.

Is customs paid on used furniture?

Someone moving to live in the Sultanate mostly pays nothing on it. It is enough for a detailed list of contents to accompany the used furniture and belongings, along with proof that the consignee lives or works in Oman. A new piece still in its box does pay its duty.

Do you ship cars from Madinah to Oman?

Yes, on a carrier from SAR 3,500 to Muscat. The car leaves with an export certificate from the traffic department, and we go over the age rule for registration in the Sultanate with you before it moves.

Do you ship to Nizwa, Salalah and Sohar?

Yes. Nizwa and Ibri are on the truck’s road before Muscat. Salalah is served by a run that heads south from Ibri, and a bedroom there starts from SAR 3,200. Sohar and Buraimi are served through the UAE.

What guarantees come with shipping with Home Safe?

An itemised price before loading, a numbered list of contents and photos of every piece, a tracking number, one person responsible for the shipment, and a delivery record. Insurance on the declared value is available on request, and it compensates for damage and loss.

Which documents are required?

They vary with the shipment. A car needs its registration, the owner’s ID and the export certificate. Dates and goods need an invoice, a certificate of origin and a packing list. Furniture needs a list of contents, the sender’s ID or residence permit, and proof that the consignee lives in Oman.

Do you ship from Oman to Madinah?

Yes. The line runs in both directions; we collect from the address in Oman and deliver in any district of Madinah during the hours permitted for trucks.
