Who ships from Kuwait to Saudi Arabia, and what do they ship?

Three people ask about this route more than anyone: a Saudi who has finished years of work or study in Kuwait and is returning with a household, a resident whose job has been moved to Riyadh or Dammam, and a trader who buys in the markets of Shuwaikh and Al-Rai and sells in the Kingdom. After them come those sending cartons to relatives and those who bought a car in Kuwait. The kind of shipment decides its method, papers and time, so start by finding your place in the table:

Owner of the shipment What they usually ship What suits them
A Saudi family returning from Kuwait The whole home’s furniture, appliances and air conditioners A dedicated truck with dismantling, packing and assembly
A resident employee whose job moved to the Kingdom One or two rooms and personal cartons A shared load by the cubic metre
A trader or supplier Goods on pallets or a full truck Commercial shipping with an invoice and certificate of origin
A buyer of a car from Kuwait A car to be registered in the Kingdom A car carrier with the export papers

How long does shipping from Kuwait to Saudi Arabia take?

A dedicated truck reaches the cities of the Eastern Province and Hafar al-Batin in one to 3 days, Riyadh in two to 3 days, and Jeddah and Makkah in 3 to 5 days. A shared load adds two to 3 days to that. Air freight delivers within one to two days. These times are door to door, meaning they include loading in Kuwait, clearance at the two border posts and unloading in your home.

Delivery city Road and nearest crossing Dedicated truck Shared load
Khafji and Nairiyah Nuwaiseeb ↔ Khafji One to two days 2–4 days
Hafar al-Batin Salmi ↔ Ar Ruqi, about 220 km from Kuwait City One to two days 2–4 days
Dammam, Khobar, Dhahran and Jubail Khafji, then the coastal road; about 400 km to Dammam One to 3 days 3–5 days
Riyadh Either crossing, 650–700 km 2–3 days 3–5 days
Qassim (Buraidah and Unaizah) Ar Ruqi, then Hafar al-Batin 2–4 days 4–6 days
Madinah Ar Ruqi, then Qassim 3–5 days 5–8 days
Jeddah, Makkah and Taif Via Riyadh or via Qassim; about 1,600 km to Jeddah 3–5 days 5–8 days

The driving itself is shorter than most people think: four hours to Dammam, and seven to nine hours to Riyadh. So where does the rest of the time go? It goes on stops that cannot be skipped, and this is how they fall on an ordinary trip to Riyadh:

Stage Where it happens Usual time
Dismantling, packing and inventory At the home or warehouse in Kuwait Half a day for a room, one to two days for a whole home
Kuwaiti export declaration With Kuwaiti customs at Nuwaiseeb or Salmi Hours
Saudi clearance and inspection At Khafji or Ar Ruqi Hours, and possibly a day when it is crowded
The road inside the Kingdom From the crossing to the delivery city Hours to the Eastern Province, a day to Riyadh, two days to Jeddah
Unloading and assembly At the consignee’s address Half a day to a day

What lengthens the time, and how do you avoid it?

  • Crowding at the crossings: the weekend, the days before the Eids and the start of the summer holiday are the heaviest times, so choose a loading day in midweek.
  • Waiting for consolidation: a shared truck does not move until it is full, so ask for its expected departure day before handing over your belongings.
  • A vague list of contents: the phrase “household items” invites a manual inspection, while a detailed list mostly passes with the X-ray scan.

Times for the other routes are on the transit times page.

The land crossings from Kuwait to Saudi Arabia: Nuwaiseeb – Khafji and Salmi – Ar Ruqi

The land crossings from Kuwait to Saudi Arabia: Nuwaiseeb – Khafji and Salmi – Ar Ruqi

The two countries share a border about 222 km long with only two land crossings on it, and every truck chooses one of them before it sets off. The first is coastal, in the far south-east of Kuwait, and the second is in the desert to its west. Between the two customs halls at each crossing lies a short distance the truck covers after the export declaration is stamped; at Khafji, for example, the Kuwaiti post is about 3.5 km from the Saudi one.

Point of comparison Nuwaiseeb ↔ Khafji Salmi ↔ Ar Ruqi
Location On the Gulf coast, in Ahmadi Governorate to the south West of Kuwait, facing the Ar Ruqi post in Hafar al-Batin Governorate
Approximate distance About 100 km from Kuwait City; the Saudi post is 16 km from the town of Khafji About 120 km from Kuwait City, then roughly 100 km to Hafar al-Batin
Serves in the Kingdom Khafji, Jubail, Dammam, Khobar and Al-Ahsa, and Riyadh by the Nairiyah road Hafar al-Batin, Qassim, Hail and Madinah, and Riyadh by the Majmaah road
Serves in Kuwait Ahmadi, Fahaheel, Mangaf, Mubarak Al-Kabeer and Sabah Al-Ahmad Jahra, the Capital, Farwaniya and the Shuwaikh and Al-Rai areas
When we choose it When delivery is in the Eastern Province or collection is from southern Kuwait When delivery is in the centre and west of the Kingdom or collection is from Jahra

The crossing itself does not take a day if the papers go ahead of it. The export declaration is prepared with Kuwaiti customs, and the import declaration is registered with Saudi customs through the FASAH platform before the truck arrives, together with the numbered inventory and copies of the IDs. A truck that arrives with a complete file is inspected and released, and one with a paper missing stands in the yard until it is supplied. That is why we prepare the papers and inventory lists on packing day, not on the day of travel. The method is explained on the land freight page.

A full truck or a shared load?

This decision changes both the time and the price, and it is the first thing we ask you. A full truck is yours alone: it is loaded at your door in Kuwait, sealed and sent off the same day, and is opened only for customs inspection and then at your door in the Kingdom. A shared truck gathers the shipments of several customers heading for the same city, so it waits until it is full and then distributes its load address by address.

Item Full truck Shared load
What you pay The hire of the whole truck Your belongings’ share of the truck’s volume
Departure day The day you choose The day the load is complete
Time to Riyadh 2–3 days 3–5 days
Customs declaration One declaration in your name One for each owner, and a delay in one holds the truck
Handling One loading and one unloading The belongings may pass through a consolidation warehouse in Kuwait
Suits A home of three rooms or more, or goods that fill the truck One or two rooms, and a few cartons and pallets

How much does shipping from Kuwait to Saudi Arabia cost?

The cost is worked out in the unit that suits the shipment: the piece for a parcel or carton, the cubic metre for grouped belongings and goods, the truck for a whole home, and the kilogram for air freight. The figures below are the rates of our land route between Kuwait and Riyadh, the same ones we apply on that road in the opposite direction, since the truck, the two crossings and the distance are identical. They cover transport and delivery at the address, and the accompanying services inside Kuwait are listed item by item in the price you receive.

What you ship Method Price starts from
Parcel up to 5 kg By land, door to door SAR 32
Carton Shared land load SAR 140
Suitcase Shared land load SAR 230
Carpets and soft furnishings Shared load SAR 370
Pallet of goods or a cubic metre Shared load SAR 550
Majlis or sofa set Shared load SAR 740
Bedroom Shared load SAR 920
Dismantled kitchen Shared load SAR 1,100
Small flat’s furniture Shared or a small truck SAR 1,380
Three-room flat’s furniture Dedicated truck SAR 2,300
Villa furniture Full truck SAR 3,700
Commercial goods in quantity By the kilogram SAR 2.8 per kilogram
Car to Riyadh Shared open carrier SAR 1,380
Car to Riyadh Dedicated or enclosed carrier SAR 2,020 dedicated, SAR 2,950 enclosed
Car to Jeddah Enclosed carrier SAR 2,300
Urgent parcels and documents Air freight SAR 14 per kilogram, documents from SAR 83
Sea container, refrigerated shipping and heavy equipment According to the load Set on request

The same furniture prices are where our route between Kuwait and Jeddah starts, and the difference for Jeddah shows in the hire of a dedicated truck and in large volumes, not in the bedroom line. The charge for the dismantling and packing crew inside Kuwait is set on request according to the area and the number of items, because our agent there carries it out.

Market prices on the Saudi – Kuwait route are higher than our table for most items. A carton is offered at SAR 150 to 250, a parcel at SAR 450 to 600 by those who price it as express, an electrical appliance at SAR 500 to 800, part-load furniture from SAR 1,400, a bedroom from SAR 1,800, a home’s furniture at SAR 2,750 to 3,600, industrial materials at SAR 3,500 to 5,000 and above, and a car on a carrier at SAR 1,500 to 2,800. Goods by express are offered at SAR 60 to 85 per kilogram. Many offices in Kuwait publish no price at all and settle for a calculator or a phone call, so compare any figure you receive with the lines of the table.

What moves the cost How
Volume in cubic metres The first thing calculated for furniture and goods. Estimate it with the volume calculator
Delivery city The Eastern Province and Hafar al-Batin are nearest, Riyadh is in the middle, and Jeddah and Makkah are two days further
Full or shared With a full truck you pay for the whole road, with a shared one your share of it
Work inside Kuwait Dismantling, packing and carrying down from a high floor are charged according to the area
Customs and tax Whatever no exemption covers has its duty paid to customs, outside the transport charge

How do you bring the cost down?

  • Ask for a shared load whenever your date can bear three extra days.
  • Dismantle beds and wardrobes before the team arrives; dismantled furniture takes about half the space.
  • Combine cartons and suitcases into one shipment; a cubic metre is cheaper than ten separate pieces.

The other things that affect the figure are explained on the pricing factors page.

The types of shipping available: land, air and sea

Three methods link the two countries, but they are not equal on this route. Kuwait and the Kingdom are neighbours joined by a motorway, so the truck is the rule for anything with volume or weight. The plane is for what loses its value by waiting. The ship is a special case that only a trader with a heavy load needs. The table sets the three side by side:

Method Door-to-door time Charged by Suits Does not suit
Land freight One to 8 days depending on the city The piece, the cubic metre or the truck Furniture, goods, cars and cartons What must arrive tomorrow
Air freight One to two days The kilogram, on the greater of actual and volumetric weight Documents, parcels, samples and spare parts Furniture, liquids and heavy loads
Sea freight One to two weeks The container Heavy commercial cargo that is not urgent Household furniture and parcels

Many of our customers combine two methods: the suitcase for the first days and the papers by plane, and the whole home by the truck that follows them a few days later. The general comparison of methods is on the shipping methods comparison page.

How is your shipment handled from inside Kuwait?

Home Safe is a Saudi establishment based in Jeddah, and it has no branch in Kuwait. What happens on the ground there is carried out by partner agents we work with: they survey, pack, load and prepare the export declaration. What comes after the border is our direct work: Saudi clearance, inland transport, unloading and assembly. You do not move between two parties, because booking, pricing and follow-up all come from our number.

  • Survey: photos or a video call from your home in Kuwait are enough to estimate the volume, and we ask for a visit only for large homes.
  • Building schedules: many towers in Salmiya, Hawalli and Mangaf set hours for moving furniture and require the service lift to be booked, so arrange that with the caretaker before loading day.
  • Closing commitments: anyone leaving for good ends the tenancy contract and the electricity and water services, and keeps proof of previous residence because it is requested for the exemption.

Shipping the furniture and household goods of families moving from Kuwait to Saudi Arabia

Shipping the furniture and household goods of families moving from Kuwait to Saudi Arabia

A family returning after years in Kuwait is not moving furniture alone but a home with its details: children’s toys, school books, serving sets and air conditioners. All of it will cover hundreds of kilometres on a desert road and stop for inspection twice. So the work begins with three things, none of which can be skipped: correct dismantling, packing that withstands vibration, and numbering that matches the inventory list.

What is moved How it is prepared before loading What we point out
Bedrooms and wardrobes Panels dismantled and numbered, screws gathered in a bag taped to the item Chipboard is carried upright, with no weight placed on it
Majlis seating and sofas Wrapped in protective cloth then plastic, with legs and corners protected Leather is not wrapped directly in plastic in summer
Fridge, freezer and washing machine Switched off, emptied and dried a day before loading The fridge is left standing for hours before being switched on in the new home
Air conditioners Gas pumped down into the outdoor unit and both units wrapped Old copper piping is mostly not worth moving
Glass, mirrors and paintings Foam on both faces, cardboard corners and a crate where needed Marked as fragile with the upright side shown

Kuwaiti electrical appliances mostly work in the Kingdom without conversion, as the supply in the two countries is similar and the sockets are the same three-pin type. After packing, the inventory list is written: a number for every item and carton, a description the inspector understands, and a note of anything new. It is the paper presented to customs at both posts and signed by whoever receives in the Kingdom. On delivery our team carries the load into the rooms, reassembles what was dismantled and removes the packing waste. Details are on the furniture shipping page and in the packing guide.

Shipping parcels, suitcases and appliances

Not every shipment from Kuwait is a relocation. A mother sends cartons to her married daughter in Dammam, an employee sends his suitcases ahead of his family, and a buyer finds an appliance at a better price in Kuwait. All of these travel by land in the shared load and are delivered at the consignee’s door, not at an office.

  • Small parcel: up to 5 kg starts from SAR 32, marked with the consignee’s name and Saudi mobile number.
  • Carton: starts from SAR 140, double-walled with wide tape, and filled with no more than 30 kg.
  • Suitcase: starts from SAR 230; it is locked, wrapped and numbered, with no cash, gold or original papers inside.
  • New appliances: listed with their invoice, since a new item in its box does not fall under the exemption for used effects.

The service is explained on the parcel shipping page.

Shipping commercial goods from Kuwait to Saudi Arabia

Kuwait and the Kingdom are members of the Gulf Cooperation Council customs union, which is what eases overland trade between them. A product of Kuwaiti or Gulf origin enters the Kingdom without customs duty on a certificate of origin, and a foreign product whose duty was paid on entering Kuwait is not charged a second time once proof of payment is presented. The importer in the Kingdom still owes what its authorities require in tax and conformity.

  • Shipping unit: the pallet or cubic metre in a shared load from SAR 550, quantities by the kilogram from SAR 2.8, and a full truck for large loads.
  • Papers: commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, and commercial registration for exporter and importer.
  • Value added tax: 15% on commercial imports, paid at clearance.
  • Conformity: new goods subject to technical regulations need registration and a certificate through the SABER platform before shipping.
  • Food, medicine and cosmetics: subject to the requirements of the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, with an Arabic label, an expiry date and a clearance permit.

The service is explained on the commercial shipping page.

Car shipping from Kuwait to Saudi Arabia

A car comes from Kuwait in one of two situations: a visitor drives it on its Kuwaiti plates and takes it back, which needs neither shipping nor export; or an owner wants to register it in the Kingdom, which needs a full file that begins at Kuwait’s traffic department. The transport itself is the simplest part: a carrier loads the car at your address and delivers it in your city.

  • Carriers and their prices to Riyadh: shared open from SAR 1,380, dedicated from SAR 2,020, and enclosed from SAR 2,950. To Jeddah in an enclosed carrier from SAR 2,300.
  • In Kuwait: fines are settled, the plates are handed in, and the export form is issued by the General Traffic Department. Our agent explains the steps, and the owner or a representative attends where attendance is required.
  • Age condition: the rule in practice in the Kingdom is that a used light vehicle must be no more than five years from its year of manufacture, and taxis, police cars and vehicles damaged by accident or flood are not admitted.
  • Duty and tax: customs duty of 5% of the value unless its payment in a GCC state is proven, and value added tax as customs determines for the case.
  • Conformity and registration: a Gulf-specification car mostly needs no modification, then a roadworthiness test, insurance and registration with Saudi traffic.
  • Loading day: a quarter tank of fuel, a car cleared of personal belongings, and photos from every side before it goes on the carrier.

We confirm the conditions in force for your car before its plates are surrendered, because a car turned back at the border costs more than its transport. Details are on the car shipping page and in the article on car shipping from Saudi Arabia.

Saudi customs and the documents required

The shipment passes two authorities: Kuwaiti customs stamps its exit, and the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority clears its entry. The second is the one that decides whether you pay anything. The general rule is that used personal goods are exempt on conditions, that Gulf-origin goods carry no duty, and that everything else is charged according to its tariff line.

Type of shipment Treatment on entry What governs it
Used furniture and effects of a returnee or new resident Exempt from duty Used, for personal use, and arriving within six months of the owner’s arrival
New items among the furniture Charged according to their tariff line Listed with their invoices
Goods of Kuwaiti or Gulf origin No customs duty; value added tax applies A valid certificate of origin
Goods of foreign origin Not charged again if payment of duty is proven Payment papers from first entry into the Gulf
Car 5% unless payment is proven The age and conformity conditions

The furniture exemption is not automatic and does not cover everyone. The rule in practice is that it is for a citizen who was living abroad and for a foreigner coming to live in the Kingdom for the first time; the goods must be used, for personal use and from the place of residence, and must arrive within six months of the owner’s arrival, with proof of residence for the newcomer. Customs may ask for an additional document. That is why we review your file and confirm the conditions in force before the truck is loaded.

Shipment From the sender in Kuwait From the consignee in the Kingdom
Used furniture and effects Passport and civil ID, proof of previous residence or end of employment, and a numbered list of contents National ID or Iqama, delivery address and a Saudi mobile number
Commercial goods Invoice, packing list, certificate of origin and trade licence Commercial registration, tax number and a conformity certificate where required
Car Export form, purchase invoice or proof of ownership, and the owner’s passport The owner’s ID or Iqama, plus insurance and a roadworthiness test for registration

Each of these papers has its own entry on the required documents page, while the customs clearance page walks through release at the border.

What may not enter the Kingdom or needs a permit

One carton holding a prohibited item stops the whole truck at Khafji or Ar Ruqi, and its owner bears the legal consequences. That is why the team asks about the contents of every carton during the inventory, and whatever is in the table is set aside before sealing:

Item Status on entry
Narcotics and psychotropic substances Prohibited, with severe penalties
Alcohol, pork and their derivatives Prohibited
Weapons, ammunition, fireworks and stun devices Prohibited or under licence from the competent authority
Medicines A personal quantity with a prescription or medical report
Food and cosmetics in quantity With a permit from the Saudi Food and Drug Authority
Flammable materials and gas cylinders Not loaded with furniture and parcels
Cash, gold and original documents Stay with their owner, and anything above the set limit is declared

The general list for all destinations is on the prohibited items page.

Delivering shipments from Kuwait in Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah and Hafar al-Batin

Delivering shipments from Kuwait in Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah and Hafar al-Batin

The Kingdom is vast, and the delivery city is what makes the difference in time once the border is crossed. Hafar al-Batin and Dammam are delivered on the day of crossing or the next morning, Riyadh a day later, and Jeddah two days later. Our delivery is inside the home, not at the building’s door: carrying into the rooms, assembling what was dismantled in Kuwait, and checking against the list before signing.

City How the truck reaches it Where we deliver Delivery note
Riyadh From Ar Ruqi via Hafar al-Batin and Majmaah, or from Khafji via Nairiyah The northern, eastern, western and southern districts, plus Diriyah and Al-Kharj Residential compounds require a truck entry permit in the resident’s name
Dammam, Khobar and Dhahran From Khafji along the coastal road All districts of the metropolitan area, plus Qatif, Saihat and Ras Tanura The nearest of the large cities, usually delivered on the day of crossing
Hafar al-Batin Directly from Ar Ruqi The city, Qaisumah and King Khalid Military City The first city after the crossing, delivered the same day
Jeddah Via Riyadh and Taif, or via Qassim and Madinah North, central, south and east Jeddah Large trucks are restricted at peak hours, so the time is coordinated
Makkah, Madinah and Taif With the Jeddah trip or on a trip from Qassim Residential districts outside the central area Truck entry at hours set by the competent authorities, tighter in the seasons
Qassim, Hail, Tabuk and Abha From Hafar al-Batin, or on a domestic trip from Riyadh Buraidah, Unaizah and Ar Rass, and other cities by prior arrangement Time and charge are set at booking

To make delivery easier, send us the short national address or the home’s map location, and a Saudi mobile number answered by whoever will receive. If your new home is not ready, do not postpone shipping; we keep the load packed and numbered until you set the date. That is explained on the storage page, and the delivery service is described on the door-to-door shipping page.

Is there sea freight from Kuwait to Saudi Arabia?

There is, and it is seldom the best choice. The container is loaded at Shuwaikh Port or Shuaiba Port and sails to King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam on a short voyage within the Gulf. But booking the vessel, handling and clearance at both ports, and then road transport from Dammam bring the time to one or two weeks, while a truck covers the whole road in days. As for Jeddah, a ship reaches it only by sailing round the Arabian Peninsula, so the sea makes no sense for it from Kuwait. We therefore suggest sea freight only for heavy commercial containers or equipment with no pressing date, and its price is set on request. The method is explained on the sea freight page.

Air freight from Kuwait airport to Saudi Arabia

Air freight from Kuwait airport to Saudi Arabia

The plane is for urgent parcels and luggage: a document for a transaction, a spare part that work depends on, or a suitcase its owner needs in the first week. Our agent collects it from your address in Kuwait and hands it to the cargo building at Kuwait International Airport, and it flies to Riyadh in about an hour and a quarter, to Dammam in roughly an hour, and to Jeddah in about two and a half hours. After clearance at the arrival airport it is delivered at the address within one to two days of collection.

What goes by air Price starts from Time Note
Documents, contracts and certificates SAR 83 One to two days Sealed envelope, delivered against signature
Parcels, gifts and clothes SAR 14 per kilogram One to two days Charged on the greater of actual and volumetric weight
Urgent suitcases and personal luggage SAR 14 per kilogram One to two days No loose batteries and no perfumes in quantity
A large shipment or one of a special nature Set on request According to the flight available Dimensions and weight are sent first
  • Arrival airports: King Khalid in Riyadh, King Abdulaziz in Jeddah, and King Fahd in Dammam. Other cities are delivered from them on a domestic trip.
  • Volumetric weight: a large, light carton is charged by its size, not its weight. Work it out with the volumetric weight calculator.
  • What the plane will not accept: liquids in quantity, aerosols, batteries not fitted in their devices, and anything flammable.
  • When it does not suit you: above roughly 50 kg the truck becomes clearly cheaper, and the difference in time to Dammam and Riyadh is a day or two.

The service is explained on the air freight page, and in the article on air freight from Saudi Arabia for the opposite direction.

Collection from the areas and governorates of Kuwait

Kuwait is small in area, and its furthest residential district is no more than two hours by truck from one of the two crossings. So collection is possible from all six governorates on loading day itself, without you moving anything to a warehouse. The team comes with the packing materials and works in your home.

Governorate Areas we collect from Nearest crossing What is taken into account
Capital Shuwaikh, Kaifan, Dasma, Shamiya, Rawda Salmi Houses with wide entrances, and warehouse shipments from Shuwaikh Industrial
Hawalli Salmiya, Jabriya, Bayan, Mishref, Salwa Either, according to the destination Towers that set moving hours and require the service lift
Farwaniya Khaitan, Ardiya, Andalus, Ishbiliya, Al-Rai Salmi Busy streets, served by a small vehicle when needed
Jahra Qasr, Waha, Naeem, Saad Al-Abdullah Salmi Nearest to the Hafar al-Batin road, so loaded last
Mubarak Al-Kabeer Qurain, Adan, Sabah Al-Salem, Abu Fatira Nuwaiseeb Residential houses, with direct loading
Ahmadi Fahaheel, Mangaf, Mahboula, Fintas, Sabah Al-Ahmad Nuwaiseeb On the Khafji road, with the shortest trips to Dammam

Write the collection address as it is written in Kuwait: the area, then the block, the street and the house number, with a Kuwaiti mobile number. State the floor, whether the service lift reaches your flat, and whether the truck can stand in front of the entrance.

Payment methods available

All prices are in Saudi riyals, and what you pay is written in the price you receive before booking: the transport charge, the services inside Kuwait, and what lies outside them such as customs duty and insurance. The payment stages and the date of each are stated in the booking confirmation, so you are not asked for an instalment that is not written there.

  • Bank transfer: to the establishment’s account registered in its name, not to a personal account.
  • Electronic payment: by the method named to you at booking.
  • Customs duties: paid to customs against their official receipt, and we send you a copy.

Steps for shipping from Kuwait to Saudi Arabia

  1. Define the type of shipment: furniture, parcels, goods or a car, and send photos on WhatsApp with your area in Kuwait and the delivery city.
  2. Choose the method: we suggest land or air, and a full or shared truck, according to the volume and the date.
  3. Receive the price: an itemised figure showing what it covers and what it does not, with the expected time for your city.
  4. Send the papers: copies of the ID, passport, civil ID and proof of residence, which we review before fixing the loading day.
  5. Packing and inventory: the team attends in Kuwait, dismantles, packs and numbers, and you sign the list of contents.
  6. Loading and crossing: the truck is sealed, the Kuwaiti export declaration is completed, then Saudi clearance at Khafji or Ar Ruqi.
  7. Transport inside the Kingdom: the truck heads for your city, and a message with the delivery time reaches you a day ahead.
  8. Delivery: unloading, assembly and checking against the list, then signing the delivery report.

Tracking the shipment, receiving it and checking its condition

The road is short, but the owner of a shipment wants to know where it is every day. So one member of staff follows your shipment and informs you at every stop without being asked: loading, leaving Kuwait, clearance in the Kingdom, and the arrival time. If the wait at the crossing drags on, you hear the reason from that person directly.

  • Shipment number: you will find it on the receipt handed over at collection; enter it on the shipment tracking page whenever you like.
  • Insurance: a matter of choice, priced apart from transport and based on the value you state. The cargo insurance page sets out how it works.
  • Delivery day: count the cartons and items against the list, open the breakables in front of the team, and test the appliances once they are connected.
  • Remarks: any scratch or shortage is photographed and written in the delivery report before signing, as it is the basis of any claim.

The opposite direction: shipping from Saudi Arabia to Kuwait

Trucks run on this road in both directions every week, and whoever ships from Kuwait today may need to send to it tomorrow. Collection is then from any city in the Kingdom by our team, Kuwaiti clearance is at Salmi or Nuwaiseeb, and delivery is in the six governorates. Used furniture and goods of Saudi origin enter Kuwait without duty on their conditions. The details of that direction are in the article on furniture moving from Saudi Arabia to Kuwait.

Tips before shipping from Kuwait to Saudi Arabia

These are remarks we repeat to every customer on this route, and each one prevents a delay or a cost we have seen recur:

  • Ship once you know your arrival day: the exemption period runs from the date you arrive in the Kingdom, so do not leave the shipment months behind it.
  • Separate new from used: put new purchases in cartons of their own and list them with their invoices.
  • Prepare the Saudi end: a national address, an entry permit for the residential compound if required, and someone to receive if your arrival is delayed.
  • Carry the originals with you: passports, certificates, employment contracts and gold travel with you, not with the furniture.

How do you choose a reliable shipping company between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia?

Reputation is not learned from an advertisement but from the way your questions are answered before you pay. A carrier who knows this route answers in detail about the crossing, the papers and delivery, while a broker settles for a tempting figure and a quick promise. Put these questions and compare the answers:

Ask about What reassures you What warns you
Time Asks for the delivery city and distinguishes full from shared One time for every city in the Kingdom
Price Itemised lines separating transport from packing and duties A total figure with no breakdown and no survey
Customs Asks for proof of your residence and explains the exemption conditions “No customs between Gulf states”, stated flatly
Who does the work in Kuwait States who collects and packs there and who delivers in the Kingdom Vagueness about who actually carries the shipment
Customer service A named follow-up officer who answers during the stated working hours A number that stops answering after loading
Legal standing Commercial registration, a collection receipt and a bank account in the firm’s name A transfer to a personal account with no receipt

Common mistakes when shipping from Kuwait to Saudi Arabia

  • Assuming that shipping to any Saudi city takes the same time, then arranging travel around a date that does not suit Jeddah or Abha.
  • Sending the furniture after the six-month period from arrival has passed, so it is treated as dutiable goods.
  • Mixing new appliances in their boxes with used furniture without naming them in the list.
  • Surrendering the plates of a car past the permitted age before asking about the condition for its entry to the Kingdom.
  • Shipping Kuwaiti goods without a certificate of origin, so they lose their customs advantage at the crossing.
  • Booking a shared truck for a tight date, then complaining about waiting for the load to fill.
  • Signing the delivery report before counting the cartons and opening the breakables.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Kuwait to Saudi Arabia

How long does shipping from Kuwait to Saudi Arabia take?

By land: one to 3 days to Khafji, Hafar al-Batin and Dammam by dedicated truck, two to 3 days to Riyadh, and 3 to 5 days to Jeddah and Makkah. A shared load adds two to 3 days because it waits for the truck to fill. By air from Kuwait International Airport it takes one to two days. Every figure is counted from collection in Kuwait to delivery at the address.

How much does shipping from Kuwait to Saudi Arabia cost?

On the Kuwait – Riyadh road a parcel up to 5 kg starts from SAR 32, a carton from SAR 140, a suitcase from SAR 230, a cubic metre from SAR 550, a bedroom from SAR 920, a small flat’s furniture from SAR 1,380, and a villa from SAR 3,700. The final figure is fixed once we know the volume, your area in Kuwait and the delivery city. To book, call 0552803439.

Which crossing does the truck use to enter the Kingdom?

One of two: the Kuwaiti Nuwaiseeb post facing the Saudi Khafji post on the coast, which is the road to Dammam, Jubail and Al-Ahsa; or the Kuwaiti Salmi post facing Ar Ruqi in Hafar al-Batin Governorate, which is the road to Hafar al-Batin, Qassim and Madinah. Riyadh can be reached from either, so we choose by your address and the state of the crossing on the day of travel.

Does Home Safe have an office in Kuwait?

No. Home Safe is a Saudi establishment based in Jeddah with commercial registration 4030601060. Collection, packing and the export declaration inside Kuwait are carried out by partner agents of ours there, while our team manages and follows the shipment and handles clearance and delivery inside the Kingdom. You deal with one number from start to finish.

Is used furniture exempt from Saudi customs duty?

The rule in practice is that used personal effects and household furniture are exempt for a citizen who was living abroad and for a foreigner coming to live in the Kingdom for the first time, provided they are used, for personal use, come from the place of residence, and arrive within six months of the owner’s arrival. The decision rests with customs, so we review your papers and confirm the condition in force before loading.

What documents are needed to ship furniture from Kuwait?

A copy of the owner’s Saudi national ID or Iqama, a copy of the passport and Kuwaiti civil ID, proof of previous residence in Kuwait or of the end of employment there, and a numbered list of contents naming every carton and item. A resident arriving for the first time adds proof of the new residence in the Kingdom.

Do you ship cars from Kuwait to Saudi Arabia?

Yes, on a shared open carrier starting from SAR 1,380 to Riyadh, a dedicated carrier from SAR 2,020, or an enclosed carrier from SAR 2,950. Anyone who wants to register the car in the Kingdom needs an export form from Kuwait’s traffic department, and the rule in practice is that a light vehicle must be no more than five years old. We confirm what applies to your car before its plates are surrendered.

Do Kuwaiti goods pay customs duty in the Kingdom?

Goods of Kuwaiti or Gulf origin cross without customs duty when accompanied by a valid certificate of origin, because the two countries belong to one customs union. Foreign goods whose duty was paid on entering Kuwait are presented with the payment papers. Value added tax of 15% is collected on commercial imports in the Kingdom.

Is there air freight from Kuwait to Saudi Arabia?

Yes, from Kuwait International Airport to the airports of Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam. The flight to Riyadh is about an hour and a quarter, and to Jeddah roughly two and a half hours. It starts from SAR 14 per kilogram, with express documents from SAR 83, and delivery at the address within one to two days.

Is sea freight from Kuwait to Saudi Arabia suitable?

Not for furniture and parcels. The sailing from Shuwaikh or Shuaiba port to King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam is short, but handling and clearance at both ports stretch the time to one or two weeks, while a truck arrives in days. We suggest it only for heavy commercial containers with no pressing date.

What is the cheapest way to ship from Kuwait to Saudi Arabia?

A shared load by land, because you pay for the space your belongings take in the truck, not for the whole truck. The cost falls further when you combine your cartons into one shipment, dismantle the furniture before loading, and book outside the summer and holiday weeks.

Do you deliver outside Riyadh, Dammam and Jeddah?

Yes. We deliver in Hafar al-Batin, Khafji, Jubail, Al-Ahsa, Qassim, Madinah, Makkah, Taif, Tabuk, Hail, Abha and Jazan. Cities close to the road are delivered on the same trip, and those far from it are moved from the Riyadh or Dammam warehouse on a domestic trip.

How do I pay the shipping charge?

Prices are in Saudi riyals, and payment goes to the establishment’s bank account or by the electronic payment method named at booking. The payment stages are written in the booking confirmation. Customs duties are paid directly to customs against their official receipt and are not added to the transport charge.

How do I follow my shipment after it leaves Kuwait?

With the shipment number written on the collection receipt, and with messages that reach you at four points: loading of the truck in Kuwait, its passage through Nuwaiseeb or Salmi, the end of clearance at Khafji or Ar Ruqi, and the time of arrival at your door a day ahead.

What should I do when I receive the shipment in Saudi Arabia?

Check the number of cartons and items against the list of contents before the team leaves, open the breakables in front of them, photograph any remark and write it in the delivery report, then sign. The remark written on the delivery day is what any later claim is built on.
