Who ships furniture from Muscat to Jeddah?

Traders rarely ask for this line; most enquiries come from families moving for a job or going back home. The difference between one group and another lies not only in the volume of furniture but in the paper that proves to Saudi customs why they are moving.

Owner of the furniture What they usually ship Closest method Their main question
A Saudi who has finished work or study in Oman Household furniture, appliances and books Full truck The conditions of the returnee’s duty exemption
An employee transferred to the company’s Jeddah branch The furniture of a flat and luggage Full or shared truck An arrival day that matches the handover of the home
A Muscat resident with a new job contract in Jeddah Bedrooms and cartons Shared load Whether the residence permit comes before the furniture or after it
An Omani family settling in Jeddah A whole home and a car Full truck and a car carrier The car age the Kingdom accepts
A company moving its office or showroom Desks, cabinets and equipment Dedicated truck on a commercial declaration Duties and conformity

How do we serve you in Muscat when we are in Jeddah?

Home Safe is a Saudi establishment based in Jeddah and we have no office in the Sultanate of Oman; we say so in the first line so that you know who you are dealing with. The work in Muscat is done by a partner agent there: the agent surveys, sends the dismantling and packing crew, loads the truck and lodges the Omani export papers. We run the shipment from Jeddah: we set the plan, check your papers against Saudi customs conditions, follow the truck, and then receive it ourselves.

This arrangement works in your favour for a practical reason. The hardest part of this journey is not the loading but getting the furniture into the Kingdom and delivered inside your home. Both happen in our city, with our crew, under our establishment’s name.

  • The partner agent in Oman: survey, dismantling, packing and numbering, loading, and the export declaration.
  • The road carrier: a closed truck with a driver who knows the road and both border posts.
  • The Home Safe team in Jeddah: checking the papers, Saudi clearance through a licensed broker, unloading and assembly.
  • You: your furniture list, your personal papers, and your presence or authorisation at clearance.

The land route for furniture shipping from Muscat to Jeddah across the Arabian Peninsula

The land route for furniture shipping from Muscat to Jeddah across the Arabian Peninsula

Muscat lies on the Sea of Oman at the far east of the Arabian Peninsula and Jeddah on the Red Sea in its west, so the truck crosses the peninsula from one edge to the other. It climbs from the Muscat coast to Nizwa and then Ibri, enters the Kingdom, heads west to Riyadh and from there takes the Hejaz road to Taif and Jeddah. There are two land gates between Oman and the Kingdom, and we pick one of them for each shipment.

Stage Approximate distance What happens on it
Muscat → Nizwa → Ibri About 300 km Dual carriageway; the papers get their last check before the border
Ibri → Ramlat Khaila post 161 km Omani export clearance and stamping of the declaration
Rub’ al-Khali post → Batha junction 564 km Saudi import clearance, then a desert road with widely spaced stations
Batha junction → Haradh → Riyadh A day’s drive Driver’s rest and a check of the lashings
Riyadh → Taif → Jeddah About 950 km Down the Taif escarpment, then into Jeddah during the hours allowed for trucks

The two roads differ in the number of borders and in paperwork. The direct road through the Rub’ al-Khali crosses a single border between the Sultanate and the Kingdom, and its papers stay between two customs authorities only. The UAE road leaves Oman towards Al Ain or Hatta, crosses the Emirates to Al Ghuwaifat, then enters the Kingdom at the Batha post, and it needs an extra transit document. We lean towards the first for furniture from Muscat, Nizwa and the interior of the Sultanate, and towards the second when the furniture is in Sohar or Al Buraimi. Conditions at both posts change, so we confirm the available route before loading day and write it in the booking confirmation.

The overall picture of the land routes between the Kingdom and its neighbours is on the land freight page, and the details of the road from the Saudi side are in the article shipping company from Saudi Arabia to Oman.

Transit time for furniture from Muscat to Jeddah

The time we quote starts on loading day in Muscat and ends when the furniture is inside your home in Jeddah. The driving itself takes three to four days for a truck that stops only for its driver’s rest. The remainder goes to the two border posts and clearance, which is governed by the papers and not the engine.

Method Door-to-door time Suits
Full closed truck 5–8 days The furniture of a whole house or flat
Shared load 8–12 days One or two rooms and cartons
Car carrier 5–8 days The car accompanying the furniture
Air from Muscat International Airport 1–3 days Luggage and urgent pieces

What makes it take longer?

  • The owner arriving after the shipment: the furniture reaches the border while its owner has not yet entered the Kingdom or the residence permit has not been issued, and the declaration stalls.
  • A vague inventory: a line such as “assorted items” invites the inspector to open the cartons.
  • Waiting for the truck to fill: shared loads from Muscat to the west of the Kingdom run infrequently.
  • The Hajj and Ramadan seasons: truck movement around Makkah and Jeddah is restricted to set hours.
  • Sandstorms: they can halt traffic in the Rub’ al-Khali for hours.
  • Manual inspection: if customs asks for it after the X-ray scan, part of the load is taken down and put back.

Times for other destinations are on the transit times page.

Cost of shipping furniture from Muscat to Jeddah

The price in this direction is set on request and we do not print a fixed figure for it, because half the work takes place in Muscat in the hands of a partner agent whose charge varies with the home: the number of rooms, the floor, and what is dismantled and packed. What we do publish is our rates on the same road in the opposite direction, from Jeddah to Muscat, and they are the nearest yardstick for your budget until the final price reaches you.

Shipment Our published rate from Jeddah to Muscat From Muscat to Jeddah
Parcel up to 5 kg Starts from SAR 41 Set on request
Carton in a shared load Starts from SAR 140 Set on request
Belongings over 50 kg Starts from SAR 5.5 per kilogram Set on request
Complete bedroom Starts from SAR 2,300 Set on request after the survey
Furniture of a flat Starts from SAR 4,600 Set on request after the survey
Car on a carrier Starts from SAR 3,500 Set on request
Air freight Starts from SAR 14 per kilogram Set on request

Prices circulating in the market: we looked for a published price for moving furniture from Muscat to Jeddah and found no announced figure for this line; most of those working on it settle for the phrase “price after survey”. What is published concerns the neighbouring Gulf lines into the Kingdom: a dedicated truck arriving in 3 to 7 days, a shared service in about two weeks, and declaration and clearance charges on arrival of between SAR 250 and SAR 1,000, worked out on the depreciated value of the furniture. So ask for that item to be written out plainly, so that it does not surprise you at the door.

Factor Its effect on the price
Volume of the furniture once dismantled Sets the size of the truck or your share of the shared load
Full or shared truck Shared costs less and waits longer
The work at the Muscat home The floor, the lift and the number of pieces to dismantle
The route The UAE road adds transit costs
Saudi customs Full exemption, or duty and VAT on what it does not cover
The work at the Jeddah home Assembly, carrying upstairs and a local shuttle if the street is narrow

How do you bring the cost down?

  • Sell what is not worth 2,300 km: a cheap cupboard and an old mattress cost more to move than they are worth.
  • Get the order of the papers right: a residence permit issued before the furniture arrives means exemption, not duty.
  • Choose a shared load if your date allows: a week of waiting saves a visible part of the charge.
  • Do not ship new with used: an appliance still in its box is dutiable and holds up what travels with it.
  • Work out the volume before you call: use the CBM calculator, and the price you get will be more exact.

Every item of the price is explained on the pricing factors page.

The survey before the price: what do we need to know?

A home that has not been seen cannot be priced. The partner agent’s surveyor visits your home in Muscat, or you walk through the rooms with your phone camera on a video call with us. The aim is three numbers: the volume of the furniture in cubic metres once dismantled, the expected number of cartons, and the hours of work. From them we know whether a shared load is enough for you or you fill a truck.

The surveyor also notes what photos do not show: a wardrobe brought in before the door was fitted, a narrow staircase the sofa will not pass, air conditioners that need a technician, and a painting or ornament that needs a wooden crate. You are asked about the Jeddah home too: which district it is in, which floor, and whether the building has a service lift. The price is built on both homes together.

Dismantling and packing furniture in Muscat homes before shipping to Jeddah

Dismantling and packing furniture in Muscat homes before shipping to Jeddah

Most Muscat homes are ground-level villas and flats in low-rise buildings, so loading from them is easier than from the towers of other cities. The challenge lies elsewhere: the furniture will spend days in a closed truck crossing the hottest parts of the peninsula and then come down into Jeddah’s humidity. So the packing here is designed for heat, sand and long vibration all at once.

The crew starts with dismantling. The bed goes back to a headboard, two sides and a base, the wardrobe to doors, sides and shelves, and the dining table to a top and legs. The screws of each piece go into a bag marked with its number and taped to its largest panel. Then everything is wrapped in what suits it:

Piece How it is prepared for this road
Sofas and mattresses Film sealed on every side to keep sand out, with moving blankets over it
Painted and glossy wood Thin foam, then corrugated card on edges and corners
Glass, mirrors and paintings Corner protectors, bubble wrap, then a wooden crate or frame, loaded upright
Screens and electronics The original carton or a padded box, with a moisture-absorbing sachet
Kitchenware and china Paper round each piece, in double-walled cartons that are not overfilled
Fridge and washing machine Unplugged a day ahead and dried; the washing-machine drum fixed with its transit bolts
Incense, frankincense, candles and cosmetics Away from the truck wall, in insulated cartons, because heat melts them

Packing materials and what each is good for

Not every material suits every piece, and the common mistake is to wind film round everything and think it packed. Film keeps dust out but not shocks, bubble wrap absorbs a shock but carries no weight, and card protects edges but not glass on its own. So a delicate piece gets two or three layers.

Material Its job Used for
Rolled and corrugated card Protects surfaces and edges from scratches Wood, doors and wardrobe panels
Polystyrene and foam sheets Fill gaps and absorb vibration Glass, appliances and kitchen utensils
Sponge and moving blankets A cushion between neighbouring pieces Sofas, tables and carved wood
Pressed paper and filler paper Holds the contents of a carton still Plates, cups and small ornaments
Plastic bags and film Seal out sand and damp Mattresses, soft furnishings, carpets and clothes
Wooden crates A rigid frame that bears what is placed on it Marble, large screens and ornaments

Air conditioners and appliances: who disconnects and who refits?

A split air conditioner is taken down by a refrigeration technician after pumping the gas down into the outdoor unit and sealing the pipe ends, so that road sand does not get in. The washing machine, cooker and water heater are disconnected and drained. In Jeddah our crew refits what was taken down, and the air conditioner’s gas is topped up if it has dropped. All of these are items named in the booking confirmation, so do not assume the word “assembly” covers everything.

A numbered inventory

Every piece and every carton carries a numbered label, and every number has a line on the list with the description, the room, the condition and the approximate value. This list is the paper Saudi customs reads to decide on the exemption, so it is written clearly in Arabic: “Carton 12: books”, not “miscellaneous”. You sign it before the truck is locked and keep a copy on your phone. A fuller explanation is in the packing guide and in the article packing furniture for a move.

Loading, and bringing furniture down from upper floors

After packing, the pieces come down in the reverse of the order in which they will be unloaded in Jeddah: what is assembled first goes into the truck last. Wide pieces that the staircase cannot take, such as corner sofas and wardrobes that do not come apart, are lowered by a furniture hoist from the balcony or window where the building allows it.

In the truck the heavy items are stacked at the bottom and towards the front, panels and mirrors stand on their edges against the wall, and the rows are strapped so that no gap is left for the load to shift on a road that lasts days. Then the doors are closed with a numbered seal that is written on the consignment note. Securing methods are on the packing and lashing page.

A full truck or a shared one for furniture from Muscat?

A full truck is yours alone: it is loaded at your home, sealed, leaves the same day, and its door is opened only for customs and then in Jeddah. A shared one groups your furniture with other people’s shipments bound for the Kingdom, so you pay for the space you take and wait until it fills. Anyone with a whole home is better off with the first, because their furniture fills the truck anyway.

Point of comparison Full truck Shared load
How it is charged The hire of the whole truck By the cubic metre or by the piece
Departure Loading day When the load is complete
Time to the door 5–8 days 8–12 days
Saudi clearance One declaration in your name A declaration for each owner, and a delay to one delays the truck
Suits A flat or a villa A room, cartons and a few pieces

Border paperwork: what is prepared in Muscat before the truck moves

The furniture passes two customs authorities, and each has its papers. The Omani side wants to know that what is leaving is its owner’s personal effects, and the Saudi side wants to know who the owner is and why the goods are coming in. The whole file is put together in Muscat, and a copy is sent to us in Jeddah before loading so that we can check it.

Document Who prepares it Why it is required
Passport and Omani resident card, or proof of its cancellation The owner Proof that the furniture comes from the country of residence
Saudi residence permit or ID, or the work visa The owner Proof of the status of the person entering the Kingdom
Employment contract, transfer letter or proof of return The owner or the employer The basis of the exemption request
Numbered inventory with values The partner agent, checked by us The basis of inspection, exemption and insurance
Authorisation of the broker The owner So that the declaration is lodged in the owner’s name
Omani export declaration The partner agent A lawful exit from the Sultanate
Road consignment note The carrier The contract of carriage and the seal number

On the Omani side the export declaration is lodged electronically through the customs system there, which is the partner agent’s work. Extra papers may be asked for depending on your case, such as a no-objection certificate from the sponsor for someone who has finished a job, so we ask about them at booking and confirm what is in force before shipping. The general list is on the shipping documents page.

Saudi customs: is your used furniture exempt?

This question decides the cost of the trip more than the truck hire does. The practice in force at the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority is that personal effects and used household items enter free of duty when specific conditions are met. Whatever does not meet them is treated as imported goods.

Condition Detail
Who qualifies A citizen returning after at least six months of residence abroad, and a foreigner coming to live in the Kingdom for the first time
State of the furniture Used, and within the needs of one household, not in commercial quantities
Its source Arriving from the previous country of residence, here the Sultanate of Oman
Arrival Within six months of the owner’s arrival in the Kingdom
Not covered Cars and other vehicles, and prohibited and restricted items
If the conditions are not met 5% customs duty on most items and 15% VAT

A product made in a Gulf state gets special duty treatment when its origin is proven, but used household furniture rarely has a certificate of origin, so do not build your sums on it. These conditions are updated and the customs officer has discretion over what he sees, so we match your case to the current rule before anything is packed.

Clearance through the Fasah platform and the owner’s presence

The Saudi declaration is lodged electronically through the Fasah platform by a licensed broker, in the owner’s name and not ours. That is why we ask you for the following before the truck reaches the border:

  • A valid ID or residence permit: for a newcomer, the permit should have been issued or the border number be available.
  • A mobile number registered in Absher: it receives the verification code that activates the authorisation.
  • A national address in Jeddah: written in the declaration as the delivery address.
  • Your presence inside the Kingdom: the practice in force is that the owner has entered before the shipment.

At the border the truck goes through the X-ray scan, and customs may ask for a manual inspection of part of the load. Whatever matches the list passes quickly. The clearance service is explained on the customs clearance page and in the article customs clearance in Jeddah.

What is prohibited or restricted from entering the Kingdom with furniture?

A home lived in for years gathers things its owners do not notice when packing. A single carton with a banned item is enough to stop the whole truck at the border. So sort these items out with your own hands before the crew arrives, and do not leave them to a worker’s judgement.

Item Status What to do with it
Alcohol and anything containing it, pork and pork products Prohibited Not packed at all
Narcotics and unidentified medicines Prohibited Disposed of in Muscat
Personal medicines Restricted Travel with you, with a prescription and in the quantity of your treatment
Weapons, ammunition and fireworks Prohibited without a licence Not shipped with furniture
Radio sets and drones Restricted, with a permit from the competent body Ask us before packing
Gambling equipment, and printed matter and material that offends public morals Prohibited Left behind
Foodstuffs, plants and seeds Restricted, with release by the competent body Not put in the furniture cartons

Statues, figurines and antiques may be queried at inspection, so write them on the list under their plain description and do not hide them. The general list is on the prohibited items page, and we confirm what is in force before shipping.

Electrical appliances: will they work in Jeddah as they did in Muscat?

A question forgotten until the appliance is plugged in. The voltage in the Sultanate and the Kingdom is close, and the flat three-pin plug is common in both. But the mains frequency is 50 Hz in Oman and 60 Hz in the Kingdom. Most modern appliances accept both, while some older motors and electric clocks are affected. Some old buildings in Jeddah also have low-voltage sockets beside the ordinary ones.

So read the rating plate on the back of each appliance: if it says 50/60 Hz it works unmodified. If it says 50 Hz only, ask a technician before paying to ship it. The air conditioner, washing machine and fridge deserve this check most.

Shipping the car with the furniture from Muscat to Jeddah

The car does not go in the furniture truck, nor under the furniture exemption. It travels on a separate car carrier and crosses the same border on its own declaration. Before asking about the charge, ask whether the Kingdom will accept it, because the conditions for importing used cars are far narrower than those for furniture.

Item Practice in force in the Kingdom
Age A passenger car no more than five years from its year of manufacture
Condition Left-hand drive, not written off or flood-damaged, and not a former taxi or police car
Conformity Conforming to Saudi standards, including the fuel-economy label
Charges 5% duty and 15% VAT on the value assessed by customs
On the Omani side Deregistration and export plates from the Royal Oman Police, and settlement of fines

Someone entering Jeddah as a visitor in an Omani car is not importing it and comes under a different temporary-entry regime. Someone moving to live there weighs the transport charge and the duties against the price of a car bought in Jeddah. We confirm which of the conditions above are in force before shipping. Transport methods are on the car shipping page.

Luggage, cartons and office furniture

Not everyone moving from Muscat carries a home. A returning student has books, clothes and a computer, and a single employee has cartons, a screen and a desk chair. A shared load suits them, and their shipment is charged by the carton or by weight.

The furniture of offices, restaurants and cafés moves the same way, with a difference in the papers. It enters on a commercial declaration in the name of an establishment with a Saudi commercial registration and pays duty and VAT, and any new equipment in it may need a certificate of conformity through the Saber platform. So its file is prepared well before loading. The service for businesses is on the commercial shipping page.

Can furniture be shipped from Muscat to Jeddah by sea?

Some people ask about a container because both cities are on the sea. But Muscat’s sea is not Jeddah’s. The container leaves an Omani port, sails round the south of the Arabian Peninsula and enters the Red Sea as far as Jeddah Islamic Port. To the sailing days are added the days of waiting for the vessel, handling in two ports and sea-freight clearance. In that time the truck will have arrived and been unloaded.

So we do not rely on the sea for household furniture on this line. We suggest it in one case: a heavy commercial load or equipment that waiting does not harm. The comparison between methods is on the sea freight page.

Air freight from Muscat to Jeddah

Air freight from Muscat to Jeddah

An aircraft does not carry a home, but it carries what cannot wait a week: the family’s extra suitcases, the children’s books before school starts, the work computer, and a small urgent piece of furniture. Between Muscat International Airport and King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah there are daily direct flights of about three and a half hours, so the shipment usually reaches the door in one to 3 days once clearance at both airports is counted.

Item Air freight from Muscat to Jeddah
Departure airport Muscat International Airport
Arrival airport King Abdulaziz International Airport, north Jeddah
Time to the door 1–3 days
Unit of charge Chargeable weight: actual or volumetric, whichever is greater
Suits Luggage, documents, small appliances and urgent pieces
Does not suit Sofas, wardrobes and anything bulky and light
Price Set on request; our published rate from Jeddah to Muscat starts from SAR 14 per kilogram

The approach we recommend to people relocating: split your home into two shipments. What you need in your first week in Jeddah flies, and that is usually 50 to 100 kilograms. The rest goes by truck and arrives once you have taken over the home. An air shipment passes customs just like a road one, on the same conditions. Work out your weight with the volumetric weight calculator; the service is on the air freight page.

Delivering and assembling furniture from Muscat in the districts of Jeddah

Delivering and assembling furniture from Muscat in the districts of Jeddah

This stage is our own direct work, and it is where the difference shows between a truck emptied at the kerb and a service that ends inside the home. The truck enters Jeddah during the hours allowed for trucks, and we call you a day ahead to fix the appointment. Then the pieces are unloaded and taken to their rooms according to their labels, and what was dismantled in Muscat is reassembled: beds first, then wardrobes, tables and bookcases.

Area Districts What we allow for at delivery
North Jeddah Obhur, Al-Shati, Al-Mohammadiyah, Al-Naeem, Al-Basateen and Al-Hamdaniyah Towers and residential compounds: the service lift and the gate pass booked in advance
Central Jeddah Al-Rawdah, Al-Zahra, Al-Salamah, Al-Khalidiyah, Al-Andalus and Al-Hamra Limited parking, so a medium truck is used
East Jeddah Al-Safa, Al-Marwah, Al-Samer, Al-Faisaliyah and Al-Rabwah Narrower inner streets; the furniture may be shuttled from the truck in a small vehicle
South Jeddah Al-Balad, Al-Jamiah, Al-Sanabel, Al-Iskan and Al-Khumrah Old alleys near Al-Balad and buildings without lifts

After assembly the pieces are counted with you against the inventory number by number, and you note any remark on the delivery report before you sign. Then we take away the card, film and packing waste. If your home is in a gated compound, ask its management about the truck permit and its fee before delivery day. The service is explained on the door to door page, and the city-level picture is in the article international furniture moving in Jeddah.

Collection from Muscat districts and nearby wilayats

Muscat Governorate is a long strip between mountain and sea, stretching tens of kilometres from old Muttrah to Seeb. The partner agent collects from all its wilayats, and from the nearby towns by prior appointment.

Area Districts and places How collection works
Bawshar Al Khuwair, Al Ghubra, Al Azaiba, Ghala and Al Ansab Truck at the building; mostly modern flats and villas
Seeb Al Mawaleh, Al Hail, Al Khoud, Al Maabilah and Al Mouj Villas with yards a medium truck can enter
Muscat and Muttrah Qurum, Madinat Sultan Qaboos, Ruwi, Wadi Kabir and Darsait Hillside streets and alleys in Muttrah, so a small vehicle is used
Al Amerat and Qurayyat Districts in the east of the governorate By prior appointment
Barka, Rustaq and Nizwa Roughly 70 to 160 km The truck passes through, or the goods are brought to Muscat
Sohar and Sur About 200 km Dedicated truck; from Sohar it may leave by the UAE road

The destination page and everything about the Sultanate is at shipping to Oman.

Steps for shipping furniture from Muscat to Jeddah

  1. The call: you ring us on 0552803439 and give your district in Muscat, your district in Jeddah and your moving date.
  2. Review of your case: we ask about your nationality, residence permit and job contract, and tell you whether the exemption applies to you.
  3. The survey: a visit by the partner agent or a video call, which gives the volume of the furniture.
  4. The price: it reaches you itemised: the work in Muscat, transport, clearance and the work in Jeddah.
  5. Packing day: dismantling, packing and numbering, an inventory you sign, then loading and sealing.
  6. The road and the border: Omani export, then a Saudi declaration through Fasah on your authorisation.
  7. Arrival in Jeddah: an agreed appointment, then unloading and assembly at home.
  8. Handover: the pieces counted against the list and the report signed.

Tracking the shipment and insuring it

The shipment is given a reference number on loading day, and a message reaches you at five points: the locking of the truck in Muscat, its exit from the Omani border, the issue of the Saudi release, its passage through Riyadh, and the delivery appointment in Jeddah. Mobile coverage weakens on stretches of the desert, so an update may be half a day late.

Insurance is optional, and we recommend it on a journey where weather and road change several times. It is calculated as a percentage of the value you wrote on the inventory and compensates for loss and damage under the policy’s terms and exclusions. A token value on the list means token compensation. Details are under cargo insurance and shipment tracking.

If the Jeddah home is not ready yet: storage

It often happens that the lease in Muscat ends before you take over your home in Jeddah, or that you stay in a hotel for weeks until you choose a district. In that case the furniture is cleared and goes into the warehouse in Jeddah packed and numbered as it arrived, then is delivered on the day you name. Storage in Jeddah starts from SAR 185 a month for a small space and from SAR 600 for the furniture of a flat. The service is on the storage page, and its details are in the article furniture storage company in Jeddah.

The opposite direction: shipping furniture from Jeddah to Muscat

Anyone moving from Jeddah to the Sultanate takes the same road, and then all the work starts with our crew in Jeddah. This direction we price directly: a carton starts from SAR 140, a bedroom to Muscat from SAR 2,300, the furniture of a flat from SAR 4,600, a car on a carrier from SAR 3,500, and the transit time is 5 to 8 days. Omani customs usually exempts a relocating person’s used furniture on a contents list, and does not register a private car more than seven years old. Details are in the article shipping company from Jeddah to Oman.

Tips before loading day in Muscat

  • Enter the Kingdom before your furniture: arrange your travel so that your residence permit or ID is ready when the truck reaches the border.
  • Settle your obligations in Oman: electricity and water bills and the lease, so that neither your exit nor your furniture’s is held up.
  • Carry what cannot be replaced: passports, certificates, gold and medicines in your hand luggage.
  • Photograph the valuable pieces: before and after packing, since a photo is evidence in any claim.
  • Avoid the height of summer if you can: the heat of a closed truck harms plastic, wax and cosmetics.
  • Measure the doors of the Jeddah home: the door, the stairs and the lift, and send the measurements before the large pieces are packed.

How do you choose a furniture shipping company from Muscat to Jeddah?

Whoever offers you this line is either a carrier in Oman whose work ends at the border, or an establishment in the Kingdom that runs the trip all the way to your home. The following questions show you who is in front of you before you pay a deposit.

Ask about A reassuring answer A warning answer
Who clears on the Saudi side A licensed broker authorised by you through Fasah “The driver sorts it out at the border”
The customs exemption Asks for your papers and goes through its conditions Promises it before asking about your residence permit
Who works in Muscat Names the agent there and the agent’s role Hints at branches with no address
Items of the price The work in both countries, transport and clearance, each on its own line One total “covering everything”
Delivery in Jeddah Unloading, assembly and a count against the list Offloading at the building door
Commercial registration A registration number and an invoice in the establishment’s name A transfer to a personal account

Common mistakes in shipping furniture from Muscat to Jeddah

  • Sending the furniture before the Saudi residence permit is issued, so it waits at the border with no name to clear it under.
  • Buying new appliances in Muscat before the move and placing them among the used furniture.
  • Agreeing with a carrier who delivers “to the border” only, then looking for someone to finish the road to Jeddah.
  • Writing “household items” as a single line instead of a numbered list.
  • Leaving a bottle of alcohol-based perfume or a medicine without a prescription in a packed drawer.
  • Shipping a car older than the accepted limit in the hope that it gets through.
  • Handing the Muscat home back to the landlord on loading day itself, leaving no margin for any delay.

Why Home Safe for shipping your furniture from Muscat to Jeddah?

Because the journey ends in our city. Saudi customs, delivery and assembly are the part a carrier from outside the Kingdom does not master, and they are our daily work. We do not promise what we do not have: we have no fleet in Oman and cannot guarantee a customs officer’s decision, but we read your papers before loading and tell you what lies ahead.

Frequently asked questions about furniture shipping from Muscat to Jeddah

How long does furniture shipping from Muscat to Jeddah take?

A truck of your own usually gets from your home in Muscat to your home in Jeddah in 5 to 8 days, and a shared load in 8 to 12 days because it waits for the truck to fill. The distance is about 2,300 km, and what changes the time most is whether the Saudi customs papers are complete before the truck reaches the border.

How much does it cost to ship furniture from Muscat to Jeddah?

The price in this direction is set on request once the furniture has been surveyed, because the dismantling, packing and loading in Muscat are done by a partner agent whose charge we work out from your home. For comparison, our published rates on the same road from Jeddah to Muscat start from SAR 2,300 for a bedroom and SAR 4,600 for the furniture of a flat. Send your furniture list to 0552803439 and the itemised price comes back to you.

Will I pay customs duty in Saudi Arabia on my used household furniture?

The practice in force is that personal effects and used household furniture are exempt from duty for someone coming to live in the Kingdom for the first time, and for a citizen returning after at least six months of residence abroad, provided the furniture arrives within six months of its owner. Anything outside those conditions pays 5% duty and 15% VAT. We confirm the current rule before shipping.

Which border post does a truck from Muscat use to enter the Kingdom?

It has two roads: the direct one through Oman’s Ramlat Khaila post and the Saudi Rub’ al-Khali post, or the road through the UAE that ends at the Batha post. We choose between them according to the state of both posts and the kind of load on loading day, and we write the name of the post in the booking confirmation.

Does Home Safe have an office in Muscat?

No. Home Safe is a Saudi establishment based in Jeddah, and collection, dismantling, packing and the export papers in the Sultanate of Oman are handled by a partner agent there under our team’s management. Clearance on the Saudi side, delivery and assembly in Jeddah are our own direct work.

Do I have to be in Saudi Arabia when the furniture is cleared?

The practice in force is that clearance is done in the owner’s name, with an electronic authorisation from the owner to the broker through the Fasah platform, and that needs a valid ID or residence permit and a mobile number registered in Absher. So the owner normally reaches the Kingdom before the shipment does. We go through your case before the truck moves.

Which papers are needed to ship furniture from Muscat to Jeddah?

Your passport and Omani resident card or proof that it has been cancelled, your Saudi residence permit or ID or work visa, your employment contract or transfer letter, and a numbered inventory of the pieces with their approximate value. The Omani export declaration, the road consignment note and the Saudi declaration are prepared by us and the partner agent.

Do you ship a single room or just a few pieces from Muscat?

Yes, in a shared load. The pieces are packed and numbered and take their place in a truck bound for the Kingdom with other shipments, and you pay for the space they take. Waiting for the truck to fill on this line is longer than on the Dubai line, so allow an extra week for it.

Can the car be shipped with the furniture from Muscat to Jeddah?

The car travels on a separate car carrier, not inside the furniture truck. The practice in force in the Kingdom is that an imported passenger car must be no more than five years old and must conform to Saudi standards, and it pays 5% duty and 15% VAT on its assessed value; the furniture exemption does not cover it. Send us the year of manufacture before any other step.

What must not be put among furniture entering the Kingdom?

Alcohol and anything containing it, pork, narcotics, gambling equipment, weapons and fireworks, unlicensed radio sets, and printed matter and material that offends public morals. Personal medicines travel with their owner and a prescription, not in the cartons. The list is updated, so go through it with us before packing.

Will my Omani electrical appliances work in Jeddah?

Most of them will. The voltage in the two countries is close and the three-pin plug is the same, but the frequency is 50 Hz in Oman and 60 Hz in the Kingdom, and some older motors are affected by that. Some old buildings in Jeddah also have low-voltage sockets. So read the rating plate of each appliance before you pay to ship it.

Do you assemble the furniture in my home in Jeddah after it arrives?

Yes, and this is the direct work of our crew in Jeddah. We carry the pieces into their rooms, reassemble what was taken apart in Muscat — beds, wardrobes, tables and bookcases — then count the pieces with you against the inventory and clear away the packing waste. Fitting air conditioners and the kitchen is a separate item written in the booking confirmation.

Can furniture be shipped from Muscat to Jeddah by sea?

It can, but it does not suit household furniture. The container leaves an Omani port on the Arabian Sea and sails round the south of the peninsula to the Red Sea, then is cleared at Jeddah port, so it takes longer than the truck and involves more formalities. We suggest it only for heavy commercial loads.

How far ahead of my move from Muscat should I book?

Two to three weeks before loading day. We need that time to survey the furniture, check your papers against the conditions of the Saudi exemption, and book the truck and the partner agent’s slot. In summer and at the end of the school year many people move between the two countries, so start earlier.

Is furniture shipping from Muscat to Jeddah insured?

Not automatically: insurance is an item you choose, and we think it is well placed when the furniture travels 2,300 km and passes two border posts. The premium is a percentage of the total of the values entered on the inventory, and compensation for loss or damage on the road follows the policy’s terms. As for the work of the agent’s crew in Muscat and ours in Jeddah, the limits of liability for it are stated in the booking confirmation.
