The route: your city → Jeddah Islamic Port → Suez Canal → Mediterranean → Tanger Med or Casablanca · Length of the sea voyage: about 2,650 nautical miles to Tanger Med · Transit time: 22–35 days by sea, and days by air.
In brief
- What we ship: saloons, 4x4s and pickups, luxury and classic cars, motorcycles, and cars that do not run.
- The method: RoRo or inside a container. With the first the car boards the ship under its own power, and with the second it is secured by all four wheels and sealed in.
- The two ports: departure from Jeddah Islamic Port, and arrival at Casablanca or Tanger Med according to the recipient’s city.
- Before booking: we check the age of the car and the status of its owner, because Morocco does not accept every used car.
- Prices: RoRo for a saloon from SAR 2,200, a 20ft container for one car from SAR 10,100, and air freight set on request.
- The papers: an export certificate from the traffic department in the Kingdom, then the clearance file at the Moroccan port.

Who ships a car from Saudi Arabia to Morocco?
Most of the people who ask for this route are Moroccans who have finished their years of work in the Kingdom and want the car they know to go home with them. After them come retirees who are waiting for the reduction they are entitled to, and then residents spending a long holiday in their country. Companies and official bodies moving their work cars come next. The difference between them is not the ship, but the customs regime under which the car will enter:
| The owner | What they usually ship | The method that suits | The first thing to prepare |
|---|---|---|---|
| A Moroccan returning for good with the family | The family car with the contents of the home | A 40ft container shared by the car and the furniture | The residence certificate from the consulate and the date of the car’s first registration |
| A retiree over sixty | One passenger car | A 20ft container or RoRo | Proof of more than ten years of residence abroad |
| A resident on a long holiday | The car they will come back with | RoRo out and back | Confirming the temporary admission regime and its length |
| A buyer or a car showroom | One recent car or more | A 40ft container for two cars | A registered importer in Morocco and the purchase invoice |
| A company, an official body or an embassy | Work cars, or the car of a diplomat being posted | According to the number and the date, with air for the urgent | The letter of the organisation and any exemption papers |
That is why we do not start with the price. We ask you for the year of manufacture and the date of first registration, for your nationality and your status in Morocco, and for the city where the car will be handed over. With those three answers we know whether the car gets in, under which regime, and through which port.
Will Morocco accept your car? Check this before you pay
Morocco restricts the import of used cars by age, and the rule in force is that a car more than five years past its first registration cannot be imported permanently. This is the first condition we check, because a car that reaches the port of Casablanca and is refused stays on the quay accruing storage charges and then returns at its owner’s expense. The ruling changes with the status of the owner:
| Status of the owner | The regime the car enters under | The main conditions in force |
|---|---|---|
| A Moroccan living abroad, retired, aged 60 or more | Permanent import with a 90% reduction on the value | More than ten years of residence abroad, a passenger car no more than ten years old, once in a lifetime, a ceiling on the value, and the owner present in person |
| A Moroccan under sixty returning for good | Permanent import with duties after the age allowance | The five-year rule, with an easing in how the age is counted for those who worked abroad long enough, which we confirm for your case |
| A Moroccan living abroad or a foreigner on a visit | Temporary admission without duties | 180 days in the calendar year, personal use, and the car is neither sold nor left behind when the period ends |
| A buyer or a trader | Permanent import with full duties | The five-year rule, and conformity of the car with the standards approved in Morocco |
| A diplomat or a staff member of an international organisation | Exemption according to status | On a request from the mission through the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs |
The retirees’ reduction does not cover pickups, utility vehicles or motorcycles, and is limited to passenger cars. The residence certificate issued by the Moroccan consulate in Jeddah or Riyadh has a limited validity, so it is obtained close to the shipping date and not months before it. All of these conditions are amended by the Moroccan finance law, and we confirm what is in force before shipping.
A practical rule: if your car is over five years old and you do not qualify for the retirees’ exception, selling it in the Kingdom and buying its equivalent in Morocco is safer than shipping it. We tell you that before you pay, not after the car has sailed. The general rules for every destination are in the car shipping guide.
Car shipping by sea from Jeddah to Casablanca and Tanger Med: route and transit time

The car leaves Jeddah Islamic Port northwards up the Red Sea, passes through the Suez Canal, and then crosses the Mediterranean from its eastern end to its western one. The first Moroccan port on its way is Tanger Med on the Strait of Gibraltar, and a ship continuing to Casablanca leaves the strait for the Atlantic and turns south. The sailing to Tanger Med is 10 to 16 days, and to Casablanca 14 to 22 days. But the sailing is only part of the journey, and these are all its stages:
| Stage | What happens to the car | Usual time |
|---|---|---|
| Collection from your city | A car carrier takes it from outside your home, with a condition report and photographs | The day of the appointment |
| The road to Jeddah port | Road transport inside the Kingdom to the export yard | Hours from the west, and 1–3 days from the other regions |
| Export and waiting for the vessel | The export certificate, the customs declaration, and handing the car or the container to the shipping line | 3–6 days |
| The sailing | The Red Sea, Suez and the Mediterranean, sometimes with a transhipment port | 10–22 days depending on the Moroccan port |
| Clearance in Morocco | The declaration, the inspection, the valuation and payment of what is due | 2–6 days once the file is complete |
| Delivery | In the port yard, or on a carrier to the owner’s city | One to 3 days |
The time differs from one method to another, because each method follows a different sailing schedule:
| Method | Door to door | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| RoRo | 24–35 days, depending on the vessel date | A running car travelling on its own |
| A 20ft container for one car | 22–32 days | A luxury car, a classic or a car that does not run |
| A 40ft container, a car with furniture or two cars | 23–34 days | The family returning for good, and the showroom |
| Air | A matter of days | A valuable car or one tied to a date |
What lengthens the time?
- The RoRo date: car-carrying vessels bound for Morocco sail infrequently, and whoever misses one waits for the next.
- A change of ship: not every sailing is direct, and some containers are landed at a port on the way and wait there for a second vessel to carry them on to Morocco.
- An unpaid fine or a lien not lifted: the traffic department does not issue the export certificate, and the booked vessel is missed.
- An incomplete concession file: if the consulate certificate is missing or has expired, the car stops at the Moroccan port.
- The summer season: the return of Moroccans from abroad crowds the ports and the clearance desks in July and August.
Times for the other destinations are on the transit times page, and the ports we work through are on the ports and gateways page.
The price of shipping a car from Saudi Arabia to Morocco
The price is made up of three separate parts: moving the car from your city to Jeddah port, then the sea freight to the Moroccan port, then clearance and delivery inside Morocco if you ask for them. We write each part as its own line, so that you know where what you paid for ends. These are the prices the service starts from, out of Jeddah port:
| The car or the service | Method | Price starts from |
|---|---|---|
| Saloon or hatchback | RoRo to the Moroccan port | SAR 2,200 |
| 4×4 or pickup | RoRo, calculated on length, width and height | Set on request |
| One car in its own container | 20ft container with lashing | SAR 10,100 |
| A car with household furniture | 40ft container from Jeddah port | SAR 14,720 |
| Two cars in one container | 40ft container, with the freight split between them | Set on request |
| Motorcycle | On a base inside a container | Set on request |
| Moving the car from your city to Jeddah port | Car carrier inside the Kingdom | Set on request by city |
| Shipping the car by air | Cargo aircraft to Casablanca | Set on request |
| Original documents to Morocco | Express | SAR 83 |
The prices quoted in the market on this route are very far apart. Some offices offer to ship a car for between SAR 2,000 and 3,500 without stating the method or where the service ends. Others ask between SAR 4,500 and 6,000 for a small car by sea from Riyadh, or between SAR 7,500 and 9,500 for RoRo. A 4×4 or a luxury car in a 20ft container is offered at between SAR 11,000 and 14,500, and air freight for a sports car at between SAR 25,000 and 40,000. The reason for the spread is that some figures are sea freight alone, while others include the inland leg and clearance. So always ask: how far does this price take the car?
| Factor | How it changes the price |
|---|---|
| Size and weight of the car | RoRo is priced on the cubic metres the car occupies, so a tall 4×4 costs more than a saloon |
| RoRo or container | A container costs more for a single car, and its cost falls when furniture or a second car shares it |
| Collection city | Jeddah and Makkah are close to the quay, while Riyadh, Dammam and Abha add a long road leg |
| The Moroccan port | The freight to Tanger Med differs from Casablanca, and so does the inland transport after each |
| Scope of the service | To the port only, or with clearance and delivery to the owner’s city |
| Insurance | An optional premium calculated as a percentage of the declared value of the car |
| Season | In the summer of the return, freight rises and space is tight |
How do you cut the cost?
- If the car runs and no furniture goes with it, RoRo is cheaper than a private container by a wide margin.
- Someone already shipping a home puts the car in the same container, and so does not pay two freights.
- A company sending more than one car puts them on one sailing, which lowers each car’s share of the inland transport and the paperwork.
- Hand the car over yourself in Jeddah if you are nearby, and the inland carrier line drops out.
- Book outside the two summer months, and arrange the traffic papers two weeks before the vessel date.
Payment is by bank transfer in the name of the establishment against an invoice, and its instalments are set at booking. The pricing items are explained on the pricing factors page.
Which Saudi city does the car leave from?
We collect the car from every city in the Kingdom, but the ship is the same one: it sails from Jeddah. So a car from Riyadh or Dammam first reaches Jeddah port on a car carrier, and is not driven on the road once its plates have been surrendered. This is what changes from one city to another:
| Collection city | The road to the ship | Approximate distance to Jeddah port | Airport for air freight |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jeddah | Handed over directly at the export yard | Inside the city | King Abdulaziz International |
| Makkah and Taif | A single-car carrier to Jeddah the same day | 80 km from Makkah, and 170 km from Taif | Jeddah airport |
| Madinah and Yanbu | A carrier on the Hijrah road | 420 km from Madinah | Jeddah airport |
| Riyadh and Qassim | A shared car carrier via Taif | 950 km from Riyadh | King Khalid International |
| Dammam, Khobar and Jubail | A shared carrier to Jeddah, or Dammam port when a suitable service exists | 1,350 km | King Fahd International |
| Tabuk and Hail | A carrier to Jeddah with the cars of the north | 1,000 km from Tabuk | Jeddah airport |
| Abha, Khamis Mushait and Jazan | A carrier on the coast road | 700 km from Abha | Jeddah airport |
A car from the Eastern Province has a second option, King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam. But a ship from there sails round the Arabian Peninsula before it reaches the Red Sea, which lengthens the journey by a week or more. We work out for you the difference between the carrier fare to Jeddah and the extra days at sea, and then you choose. The details of the port of departure are in the article sea car shipping from Jeddah, and for those shipping from the capital there is the article shipping company from Riyadh to Morocco.
RoRo or container: which method suits your car?
With RoRo, a port worker drives the car up the ramp of the ship into a covered hold, where it is strapped to the deck and travels uncovered, with no cover and no wrapping. In a container the car goes into a steel box, is secured by its four wheels with straps and wooden chocks, and the door is then closed with a numbered seal. The first is cheaper and simpler, and the second is more isolated:
| Point of comparison | RoRo | Container |
|---|---|---|
| Loading | The car is driven under its own power into the hold | It is driven or winched into the container and then lashed by the four wheels |
| Condition of the car | It must run, brake and steer | A car that does not run or has no battery is accepted |
| Protection | A hold closed to rain and salt, with the car among other cars | Completely isolated from handling until the seal is opened |
| Accompanying belongings | Nothing inside the car | Furniture and cartons in the rest of the container, recorded in the list |
| Price starts from | SAR 2,200 for a saloon | SAR 10,100 for a 20ft container |
| Availability of sailings to Morocco | Fewer, and we confirm the date before booking | More, on the regular container services |
On the Morocco route in particular, the container is the more common choice with us, for two reasons. The first is that most of those who ship are returning with their homes, so the container is paid for either way. The second is that container services between Jeddah and Tanger Med are more regular than car-carrying vessels. Anyone shipping a running car on its own and in no hurry saves with RoRo. The two methods are explained on the RoRo car shipping and container car shipping pages.
Shipping a car inside a container with furniture from Saudi Arabia to Morocco

A family returning for good ships the car and the furniture in one 40ft container, which starts from SAR 14,720 from Jeddah port. The container is about 12 metres long inside, of which the car takes roughly five, leaving enough for the furniture of a flat of two or three bedrooms once it is dismantled and stowed. The arrangement inside it is not random:
- The car first: it goes to the far end of the container, each wheel is strapped to the floor rings, and wooden chocks are set in front of and behind the wheels.
- A wooden partition between the two: a wall of boards and beams fixed to both sides of the container, so that no carton slides onto the bodywork of the car when the ship rolls.
- The furniture behind the partition: the heavy items at the bottom and the light ones above, with the gaps filled so that nothing moves.
- The cabin of the car empty: no cartons on the seats or in the boot, as customs inspect the car separately from the furniture.
- A detailed contents list: every piece of furniture and every carton with its number, what is in it and its estimated value, and the car as a separate line with its chassis number.
A container shared by a car and furniture has two files in Morocco, not one. The car enters under its own regime, with a reduction or with duties. The used furniture enters under the returnees’ exemption once the change-of-residence certificate and the signed contents list are complete. A new appliance in its box is outside that exemption. The details for furniture are on the furniture shipping page and in the article shipping company from Saudi Arabia to Morocco.
The types of vehicle we ship to Morocco
We ship anything that runs on wheels, but each category has the method that suits it and the Moroccan condition that concerns it. A pickup, for instance, is shipped without difficulty, yet it falls outside the retirees’ reduction. And an old classic is governed by the age rule before anything else:
| Category | Shipping method | What we watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Saloon and hatchback | RoRo, or a 20ft container | The most commonly shipped, and RoRo for a saloon starts from SAR 2,200 |
| Family 4×4 | RoRo, or a container depending on height | We measure the height with the roof rack, as the door of a standard container is about 2.28 metres |
| Pickup and double cab | RoRo in most cases | Treated in Morocco as a utility vehicle, with different duties and no retirees’ reduction |
| Luxury and low sports cars | A container with a long loading ramp, or air | Ground clearance, and insurance for the full value of the car |
| Classic | A sealed container | The Moroccan age rule is checked first, and we do not ship it until its entry regime is clear |
| A car that does not run | A container, loaded by winch | That its wheels turn and its steering works, and it is not accepted on RoRo |
| Motorcycle | A wooden base inside a container | Almost emptied of fuel, with its battery disconnected |
A car built to Gulf specifications has its conformity checked when it is registered in Morocco, so we ask the clearing agent about your model before shipping. The steering wheel is on the left and traffic keeps to the right in both countries, so no modification is needed on that score.
How is your car protected while it is shipped to Morocco?
Protection begins before the port, with what you do and what we do on collection day. The journey passes through three seas and through varying heat and humidity, and the car stands for weeks without moving. These are the protective measures in the order they happen:
- The condition report: we photograph the body from its four sides, the roof, the cabin and the odometer, record every existing scratch, and you sign the report before loading.
- Fuel: a quarter of a tank or less. A full tank is refused at the port, and a completely empty one prevents the car from being moved.
- Cleaning and emptying: the car is washed so that its paintwork shows in the photographs, and cleared of personal belongings, fuel cards and paid tracking devices.
- The alarm and the battery: the alarm is disabled, and in a container the battery is disconnected so that it does not drain on the way.
- Lashing by the wheels: the straps hold the tyres, not the body or the suspension arms, so the suspension is not affected by the vibration of the ship.
- The cover: in a container, a luxury car is covered with a breathable fabric cover. On RoRo the car travels uncovered, because a worker drives it on and off.
- The keys: one set travels with the car, and the second stays with you.
- The inspection on arrival: the car is checked against the report and the photographs before it leaves the port.
What lashing cannot prevent, insurance covers. The liability of the sea carrier is limited to what is in the bill of lading, which is far less than the value of a car. So we offer optional insurance for the declared value of the car, with a premium that is a percentage of that value. The terms are on the cargo insurance page.
Exporting the car through the Saudi traffic department
A car does not enter the export yard at Jeddah port on its Saudi plates. Before that it is removed from the traffic register, and an export certificate is issued for it carrying the chassis number and the name of the owner. That certificate is the paper on which the Moroccan clearing agent builds the file, so any mistake in a number or a name shows its effect three weeks later in a distant port. The steps in force are:
- Checking that the registration card is valid and in the name of the person who will import the car into Morocco, or accompanied by a notarised sale.
- Paying all fines, as there is no export while a fine stands against the car.
- Lifting the lien, or bringing a no-objection letter from the bank, if the car is financed.
- Submitting the export request and handing the plates to the traffic department.
- Receiving the export certificate and checking its details against the passport letter by letter.
Some of these steps are available online and some require a visit to the traffic department, and what is available changes, so we tell you at the time of your request. For an owner who has travelled ahead of the car, we complete them under a legal power of attorney. The detailed explanation is in the article car shipping from Saudi Arabia.
Documents and customs clearance for the car in Morocco
The Moroccan file is reviewed in the Kingdom before the car sails. Once the ship has berthed, the clearing agent lodges the declaration, customs inspect the car and match its chassis number, and then they assess its value and calculate what is due. The documents differ according to the status of the owner:
| Document | Who needs it | Note |
|---|---|---|
| The Saudi export certificate and the original registration card | Everyone | The name matches the passport |
| The original bill of lading | Everyone | In the name of the owner or the importer, showing the chassis number |
| Passport and Moroccan national identity card | The Moroccan owner | With the entry stamp into Morocco |
| Residence certificate from the Moroccan consulate | The resident abroad, the returnee and the retiree | Recently issued, with a limited validity |
| Proof of retirement and of the length of residence abroad | The applicant for the 90% reduction | Who attends the clearance in person |
| Purchase invoice | The recent car, the buyer and the trader | Requested for a recently bought car |
| Notarised power of attorney | Anyone represented by another person | Not accepted for the retirees’ reduction |
Moroccan duties are calculated on a value that customs assess for the car after a reduction that follows its age, not on what was paid for it in the Kingdom. The rule in force is an import duty of 17.5% in most cases, value added tax at 20%, and other taxes that rise with the power of the engine. These sums are paid by the owner in Morocco, are outside the shipping price, and can be several times the sea freight. We give you an estimate before booking, and confirm the rates in force with the clearing agent. The papers are explained on the shipping documents page, and the procedures on the customs clearance page.
Temporary admission or permanent import?
Not everyone who ships a car wants to register it in Morocco. A resident spending the summer at home needs only temporary admission, a regime that lets a car registered abroad enter free of duties for a set period. Someone returning for good needs permanent import and Moroccan plates. The difference between the two is large in cost and in conditions:
| Item | Temporary admission | Permanent import |
|---|---|---|
| For whom | A non-resident of Morocco: a Moroccan living abroad or a foreign visitor | The returnee, the buyer and the trader |
| Duration | 180 days in the calendar year, continuous or split | Permanent |
| Duties | None, as long as the car leaves within its period | Duties and taxes in full or reduced |
| Age rule | Not applied to a car that enters and leaves | Five years, with the retirees’ exception |
| Restrictions | Personal use, with no sale and no lending to a resident of Morocco | Some concessions bar a sale for a period |
| The car’s Saudi plates | A point we go through with you, because export removes the plates | Surrendered, and the car is registered on Moroccan plates |
Here is a point many people overlook. Temporary admission was designed for a car its owner drives in on its own plates, whereas a car shipped by sea arrives with an export certificate after its plates have been surrendered. So we go through what works for your case with the Moroccan clearing agent and with the traffic department before we suggest shipping for a temporary holiday. Morocco works with its own customs declaration and not with the international carnet, and the carnet is explained, for the countries that ask for it, on the triptik and carnet page.
Delivering cars in Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier and the other cities

We deliver the car in Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier, Marrakech, Fez and Agadir, in the port yard or outside the owner’s home. The port is chosen by the delivery address: Tanger Med for the cities of the north and east, and Casablanca for the centre and the south. After release the car leaves on a carrier, because it has no plates and should not be driven before it is registered.
| Delivery city | Most suitable port | Approximate distance from the port | Delivery after release |
|---|---|---|---|
| Casablanca and Mohammedia | Casablanca | Inside the city | The same day |
| Rabat, Salé and Kenitra | Casablanca | 90 km to Rabat | One day |
| Tangier and Tetouan | Tanger Med | About 45 km to Tangier | The same day or the next |
| Marrakech and Safi | Casablanca | 240 km to Marrakech | One to two days |
| Fez and Meknes | Tanger Med or Casablanca | About 300 km | One to two days |
| Agadir and Souss | Casablanca, or the port of Agadir when a service is available | 460 km from Casablanca | 2–3 days |
| Oujda and Nador | Tanger Med | About 550 km | 2–3 days |
A joint inspection at handover: the owner or an agent stands with our representative around the car, with the condition report and the loading photographs from Jeddah in hand. They check the bodywork, the glass, the tyres and the odometer reading, and then sign for receipt. Any remark is written in the report before signing, as it is the basis of a claim with the insurer. Delivery to the address is explained on the door-to-door shipping page.
Road, sea and air: which way gets the car to Morocco?
Only two ways get a car to Morocco: the sea and the air. The road has its part with us inside the Kingdom, from your city to the quay in Jeddah or to the cargo village at the airport. The full overland route crosses Egypt, Libya, Tunisia and Algeria, and the land border between Algeria and Morocco is closed. So if someone promises you a carrier that reaches Casablanca by road, ask which border post it will enter through.
| Mode | Its part on this route | Time | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Road | A car carrier from your city to Jeddah port or the airport only | Hours to 3 days | Set on request by city |
| Sea | The main route: RoRo or container to Tanger Med or Casablanca | 22–35 days door to door | Starts from SAR 2,200 for a saloon by RoRo |
| Air | For a luxury or urgent car to Mohammed V Airport | A matter of days | Set on request |
Air freight for cars from Saudi Arabia to Morocco

Air freight gets the car to Casablanca in days rather than weeks, and it is the choice for a luxury car, a sports car, a valuable classic, and a car tied to an exhibition or an occasion. The car is driven onto a metal pallet, its wheels are strapped to the pallet, and the whole pallet is then lifted into the hold of the cargo aircraft. Handover is at Mohammed V Airport, and from there on an enclosed carrier to the owner’s address.
| Airport of departure | Cities it serves | Airport of arrival |
|---|---|---|
| King Khalid International, Riyadh | Riyadh, Qassim and the central region | Mohammed V in Casablanca, direct or through an intermediate stop |
| King Abdulaziz International, Jeddah | Jeddah, Makkah, Taif, Madinah and the south | Mohammed V in Casablanca |
| King Fahd International, Dammam | Dammam, Khobar, Jubail and Al-Ahsa | Mohammed V through an intermediate stop |
- Price: set on request, because it is calculated on the weight and dimensions of the car and the type of aircraft available on the booking day. It is several times the sea freight.
- Preparation: very little fuel, a disconnected battery, tyres at their normal pressure, and disclosure of any leak.
- Electric and hybrid cars: their battery falls under the air carrier’s dangerous goods requirements, so we check acceptance before booking.
- The papers: the same export certificate, with an air waybill in place of the sea bill of lading. The Moroccan conditions on age and duties do not change with the means of arrival.
- When we do not recommend it: for an ordinary car that waiting does not harm, since gaining three weeks does not make up for the difference in price.
The general service is explained on the air freight page.
Service for individuals, companies, government bodies and embassies
The service is the same at its core, and what changes is the paperwork, the number of cars and who signs. An individual asks about one car and a concession. A company asks about a schedule and an invoice. An official body and an embassy ask about a letter, an exemption and privacy. We give each group what it needs:
| The client | What they ask for | How we serve them |
|---|---|---|
| Individuals | Shipping one car, with the age rule and the concession checked | One member of staff follows the file from the traffic department to handover, with a price itemised line by line |
| Companies and showrooms | Several cars on one sailing, or repeated shipments | 40ft containers for two cars, a tax invoice, and a condition report for each car |
| Government bodies | Cars for an official mission or for taking part in an exhibition | A purchase order and an official letter, and dates coordinated with the port and the airport |
| Embassies and consulates | The car of a diplomat posted to Rabat | A sealed container, an exemption file lodged by the mission, and one named person with access to the details |
A diplomat being posted is not subject to what applies to an ordinary importer, as the exemption is requested by the mission from the Moroccan foreign ministry before the car arrives. Our part is that the car and the bill of lading arrive matching what is in that request.
Steps for shipping a car from Saudi Arabia to Morocco
- The enquiry: you send to 0552803439 the model of the car, the year of manufacture and the date of first registration, your city, and the Moroccan city.
- The acceptance check: we determine the regime the car will enter under and the documents to be obtained from the consulate.
- Price and booking: you receive the price in its three parts, and we book space on the nearest vessel that suits your date.
- The traffic papers: paying the fines, surrendering the plates and receiving the export certificate.
- Collection: a carrier from your address, with a signed condition report and photographs.
- Loading in Jeddah: boarding the RoRo vessel, or lashing inside the container and sealing it in front of our representative.
- Sailing and follow-up: the bill of lading is issued in your name, and a message reaches you at every port.
- Clearance and handover: the clearing agent lodges the file, the joint inspection is carried out, and you receive your car.
Tracking the car from Jeddah to the Moroccan port
You know where your car is at every stage, though in a different way from tracking a small parcel. A ship does not send its position every minute, and the reliable update comes at the ports. So we give you two means together:
- The bill of lading or container number: you enter it on the website of the shipping line, and it shows the last port the ship left and the expected date of arrival. The method is on the track your shipment page.
- Messages from the member of staff in charge: when the car is handed to the port, on the day of sailing, after the Suez passage, on berthing, and when the release is issued.
- Photographs at the stops: a picture of the car secured inside the container before it is closed, and a picture of the seal and its number.
Car shipping from Morocco to Saudi Arabia
We work in the opposite direction too, though it is less in demand. Our agent collects the car in Casablanca or Tangier, it sails to Jeddah Islamic Port, and we then clear it and deliver it to your city. But the Kingdom in its turn restricts the age of imported cars, and the rule in force is that a passenger car should be no more than five years old, with conformity requirements. So the first question here is the same one: will the car be accepted? We answer it before the car moves from Morocco, and confirm the conditions in force at the time of the request.
Advice on choosing the right shipping method for your car
The choice between RoRo, a container and air comes down to four questions: what the car is worth, whether it runs, whether anything goes with it, and when you need it. This is the gist of what we advise clients on this route:
- Plan at least six weeks before your travel date, as the papers from the consulate and the traffic department take their time.
- Estimate what your car is worth on the Moroccan market first, then compare it with the total of shipping and duties.
- A car of ordinary value that runs well: RoRo.
- A car whose paintwork matters to you, or one that does not run: a container.
- You have the contents of a home as well: one 40ft container for both.
- A date that cannot slip and a valuable car: air.
- Choose the port by the delivery address, not by the sea freight alone.
The general comparison between the methods is on the shipping methods comparison page.
How do you choose a car shipping company to Morocco?
A company that knows the Morocco route is known by its questions. If it asks for the date of first registration before it gives you a price, it knows what awaits the car at the port. If it gives you a figure in its first message, it may know the sea and not the customs. These signs tell the two apart:
| What you ask about | A reassuring answer | An answer that calls for caution |
|---|---|---|
| Age of the car | It asks first for the year of manufacture, the registration date and your status | “Morocco accepts any car” |
| How the car gets there | Sea or air, with the name of the Moroccan port | A road carrier all the way to Casablanca |
| Price | Three parts, stating that Moroccan duties are outside it | One figure “covering everything” with no breakdown |
| Time | A margin in days and a specific vessel date | “A departure every five days”, or one week by sea |
| Documentation | A condition report, photographs and a bill of lading in your name | A handwritten receipt only |
| Legal standing | A commercial registration and an invoice in the name of the establishment | A mobile number and a transfer to a personal account |
Common mistakes in shipping cars to Morocco
- Surrendering the plates of the car before making sure that Morocco accepts its age.
- Obtaining the consulate certificate far too early, so that it expires before the ship arrives.
- Appointing a relative to clear a car for which the retirees’ reduction is being claimed, when that concession requires its holder to attend.
- Stuffing the cabin and the boot of the car with gifts and cartons.
- Declaring a low value for the car on the insurance, and then claiming its true value when damage occurs.
- Choosing Casablanca for an owner who lives in Tetouan, or Tanger Med for an owner in Agadir.
- Comparing two prices without knowing where each of them ends.
Why Home Safe for shipping your car to Morocco?
Because shipping a car to Morocco is a customs decision before it is a sea voyage. We begin with the question many avoid: will the car get in at all? If the answer is yes, we arrange the traffic department, the port, the vessel and the clearing agent in one file followed by one member of staff.

Frequently asked questions about car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Morocco
How much does it cost to ship a car from Saudi Arabia to Morocco?
A saloon on a RoRo vessel starts from SAR 2,200 from Jeddah port to the Moroccan port. A car in its own 20ft container starts from SAR 10,100 including the lashing. Anyone shipping a car together with the contents of a home books a 40ft container, which starts from SAR 14,720. A 4×4 and a pickup are priced by their dimensions, and air freight is set on request. Send the model of the car, its year of manufacture and your city to 0552803439.
How many days does a car need to reach Morocco?
From 22 to 35 days, counted from the day it is collected in your city until it leaves the Moroccan port. The sailing itself is 10 to 16 days to Tanger Med and 14 to 22 days to Casablanca, and the rest goes on moving the car to Jeddah, the export papers, waiting for the vessel and then clearance. Air freight cuts the journey to days.
What is the cheapest way to ship a car to Morocco?
RoRo, for a car travelling on its own, because you pay for the space the car takes in the hold of the ship and not for a whole container. For someone who also has furniture or a second car, the 40ft container becomes the cheaper choice, since its freight is spread over everything inside it.
Which suits my car better: RoRo or a container?
RoRo is enough for a saloon or a 4×4 that runs under its own power, if you do not mind it travelling uncovered inside the hold. The container is for a luxury car, a classic or a car that does not run, and for an owner who wants the car locked behind a seal that is opened only in Morocco. RoRo sailings to Morocco are fewer than container sailings, so the date sometimes settles the choice.
Does Morocco accept a car that is more than five years old?
The rule in force is that a car more than five years past its first registration cannot be imported permanently. The known exception is for a retired Moroccan living abroad, whose car is accepted up to ten years old under conditions. This rule is revised in Morocco from time to time, so we confirm what applies to your car before its plates are surrendered.
What are the conditions for the 90% reduction for a retired Moroccan?
The rule in force is that the owner has reached sixty and has lived outside Morocco for more than ten years, and that the vehicle is a passenger car no more than ten years old. The reduction is granted once in a lifetime, has a ceiling on the value of the car, and does not cover pickups, utility vehicles or motorcycles. The owner attends the clearance in person with a recent residence certificate from the consulate.
Can I ship my household furniture with the car in one container?
Yes, in a 40ft container that starts from SAR 14,720. The car goes in first and is lashed by its four wheels, a wooden partition is then built behind it, and the furniture is stowed in the rest of the container. Each has its own papers: the car has the export certificate, and the furniture has a detailed contents list.
Can I leave belongings inside the car?
Not with RoRo, where the car boards the ship empty and nothing stays in it but the spare wheel and the jack. In a container the belongings go outside the cabin of the car and are written into the contents list, because Moroccan customs inspect the cabin and the boot, and anything undeclared holds up the whole car.
What papers does the traffic department ask for to export a car from Saudi Arabia?
A valid registration card in your name, an ID or residence permit, and a car with no fines and no lien. The plates are then handed in and the export certificate is issued with the details of the car and its owner. Some steps are done online and some by visiting the traffic department, so we tell you what is available when you ask, and we complete them under a power of attorney if you wish.
My car is financed by a bank. Can it be shipped?
Not before the bank agrees in writing. While the car carries a lien or a finance-lease contract, the traffic department will not take its plates off, and it will not get into Jeddah port. Ask the bank for a settlement letter or one permitting its export to Morocco, and allow at least two weeks for it before the vessel date.
Can a car be flown to Morocco?
Yes, from the airports of Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam to Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca. The car is secured on a pallet inside a cargo aircraft and arrives within days rather than weeks. It costs several times the sea rate, so it suits a luxury car or one tied to a date, and the price is set on request by the weight and dimensions of the car.
Is there road transport for cars from Saudi Arabia to Morocco?
We do not offer it. The road crosses Egypt, Libya, Tunisia and Algeria, and the land border between Algeria and Morocco is closed, so the carrier would never reach its destination. Our road leg ends at the quay in Jeddah or at the cargo village of the airport, and from there the car continues by sea or by air.
How do I follow my car while it is at sea?
With the bill of lading number or the container number on the website of the shipping line, and with our messages at every stop: entry to the port, sailing, passage through the Suez Canal, berthing at Tanger Med or Casablanca, and then the release. The ship does not show up minute by minute on the open sea, so the updates come at the ports.
Do you ship a pickup, a motorcycle and a car that does not run?
Yes. A pickup and a 4×4 board the RoRo vessel or go into a container, depending on their height. A motorcycle is fixed upright on a base inside a container. A car that does not run is winched into the container, and is not accepted on RoRo because RoRo requires the car to move under its own power.
Who pays the Moroccan duties, and are they part of the shipping price?
The owner of the car or the recipient in Morocco pays them at clearance, and they are outside the shipping price. They are calculated on a value assessed by Moroccan customs, with an import duty, value added tax at 20% and taxes that follow the power of the engine. We give you an estimate before shipping so that you can compare shipping the car with selling it in the Kingdom.
