Who ships from Riyadh to Morocco, and what do they ship?

Riyadh has a large Moroccan community working in hospitals, schools, universities, engineering offices and restaurants. Some of its members go home for good after years, and some send things to their families every season. Alongside them are traders who sell to Moroccan importers, and companies moving their offices or assets. Each group has a different shipment and a method that suits it:

Shipper What they ship Most suitable method
The Moroccan family returning for good Household furniture, appliances and rugs, and sometimes the car A 20ft or 40ft container
The resident furnishing a home for his family A lounge suite or bedroom, appliances and cartons Part-load sea freight by the cubic metre
Whoever sends gifts in the seasons Clothes, dates, perfumes and toys An air parcel by the kilogram
The buyer of a car from Riyadh’s showrooms and auctions A recently built car RoRo or a container, after the age conditions are checked
The trader and the factory Dates, perfumes, incense, abayas, plastic products and packaging materials A full container, or pallets as a part load
Companies, offices and organisations Office furniture, exhibition equipment and archives A container with an asset inventory, or air for urgent items

What sets shipping from Riyadh to Morocco apart?

Two things govern this route: Riyadh is an inland city, and Morocco lies at the far western end of the Mediterranean. A sea shipment therefore travels on tarmac first, before it ever sees water. The port nearest the capital is King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, about 400 km away, but a ship leaving it sails round the whole peninsula before it enters the Red Sea. Jeddah Islamic Port is further by road, about 950 km, yet its ship heads straight for the Suez Canal. That is why most Morocco shipments leave from Jeddah.

It also means that the price and the time contain a stage that a shipper in a coastal city does not pay for: inland transport. We run it ourselves on regular trips between Riyadh and Jeddah, and write it as a separate line in the price. Riyadh makes up for this in air freight, because King Khalid Airport is in the city itself, with direct flights to Casablanca on certain days of the week.

The shipping route from Riyadh to Morocco and how long it takes

The time we quote begins the day we knock on your door in Riyadh and ends the day the consignee signs in Morocco. Sailing alone is roughly half the story, and the other half is collection, inland transport and clearance in two countries. This is how the days of a full container are spread:

Stage What happens Usual time
Collection in Riyadh Dismantling, packing, inventory and loading the container 1–2 days
The road to Jeddah port About 950 km on the motorway via Taif 1–2 days
Export and waiting for the ship The export declaration and handing the container to the shipping line 3–6 days
Sailing The Red Sea, then the Suez Canal, then the Mediterranean as far as the Strait of Gibraltar 10–16 days to Tanger Med, and 14–22 days to Casablanca
Moroccan clearance The customs declaration, inspection and payment of what is due 3–6 working days
Delivery inside Morocco A truck from the port to the consignee’s address 1–3 days

The time changes with the method and the port of arrival. This is what a shipper from Riyadh can expect in each case:

Method Route Time from Riyadh Suits
Full container to Tanger Med Riyadh → Jeddah → Suez → Tanger Med 22–30 days The northern and eastern cities and Fez
Full container to Casablanca The same route, then the Atlantic coast 26–34 days Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech and Agadir
Part-load sea freight A shared container consolidated in Jeddah 30–40 days Cartons and one or two rooms
A car by RoRo A carrier to Jeddah, then a car vessel 24–36 days depending on the sailing date A running car travelling alone
Air King Khalid Airport → Mohammed V Airport 3–6 days Parcels, samples and documents

What lengthens the time?

  • The transhipment port: many lines move the container to a second ship at an intermediate Mediterranean port, and the connection date adds days.
  • Filling the shared container: a part load does not leave Jeddah until its container is full.
  • The change-of-residence certificate: if the container arrives before it, the returnee’s furniture stays waiting in the port.
  • Details that do not match: a name on the bill of lading that differs from the national ID card or the passport stops the customs declaration.
  • The return seasons: summer and the weeks before Ramadan and the Eids are the busiest times on this route.

Times for other destinations are on the transit times page.

Shipping prices from Riyadh to Morocco

The price of a shipment leaving Riyadh for Morocco is built from four lines: packing and loading at your home, transport to Jeddah port or to King Khalid Airport, the sea or air fare, and then whatever clearance and delivery you ask for in Morocco. We write each line separately so that you can compare clearly. These are the figures our services start from:

What you ship Method Price starts from
One room’s furniture and belongings Part-load sea freight SAR 2,300
A small flat’s furniture Part-load sea freight SAR 4,140
A cubic metre Part-load sea freight SAR 780
The smallest sea shipment, cartons Part-load sea freight SAR 1,000
A 20ft container Full container SAR 7,800
A 40ft container Full container SAR 14,720
A saloon car RoRo from Jeddah port SAR 2,200
Goods or belongings above 100 kg Air, by the kilogram SAR 28 a kilogram
A parcel up to 5 kg Air SAR 320
Moving the car from Riyadh to the port, and delivery inside Morocco By location and city Set on request

The prices in circulation in the market for this route are higher than that on most lines: a bedroom between SAR 2,500 and 3,200, and as much as SAR 4,500 with parcels. A small flat’s furniture between SAR 4,500 and 5,200, and a medium flat between SAR 6,000 and 7,000. A cubic metre of goods between SAR 850 and 1,500, and a part load of cartons from SAR 800. A 20ft container including services between SAR 8,500 and 13,000, and a 40ft container between SAR 16,000 and 22,000, with some offers quoting a container fare between SAR 4,500 and 6,000 without stating its size or what it covers. A small car between SAR 4,500 and 9,500, and a four-wheel drive between SAR 6,500 and 14,500. By air a kilogram is offered between SAR 15 and 25, and an express shipment between SAR 1,800 and 3,500. So always ask what the figure includes before you compare it with another.

What sets the price Its effect
Volume or weight The cubic metre by sea, and chargeable weight by air. Estimate your volume with the CBM calculator
Inland transport from Riyadh A line particular to inland cities, and it falls when your shipment joins a scheduled trip to Jeddah
Port of arrival Tanger Med and Casablanca differ in the sea fare and in the cost of the truck after them
Limit of the service Delivery at the Moroccan port, or clearance and delivery to the address
Added services Dismantling and assembly, timber crates, storage and insurance
Season Summer and the weeks before Ramadan raise demand for ships and for trucks

How do you lower the cost?

  • Sell in Riyadh whatever is not worth the journey; its second-hand market is active, and every cubic metre you leave behind comes off the bill.
  • Choose a loading day that matches our weekly trip to Jeddah, so that you pay a share of the truck and not its whole hire.
  • If your volume is close to 15 cubic metres, ask for the full-container price as well, as it may be cheaper than a part load.
  • Ask for the port nearest the consignee’s city, even if the fare to the other port is slightly lower.
  • Send by plane only what you need in your first weeks, and leave the rest to the container.

These factors are set out on the pricing factors page.

Loading the container in Riyadh and moving it to the port

Loading the container in Riyadh for Morocco

When it is a whole home, we bring the container to the street outside your house in Riyadh. The furniture is loaded into it piece after piece, and each piece is entered in the inventory the moment it goes in. After the last carton the door is closed and the numbered seal is fitted while you stand there, and its number is written in a record of which you take a copy. From that moment the container is opened only in front of customs. If the street does not allow the tractor unit to stop, the furniture is loaded into a closed truck and taken to our warehouse to go into the container there.

Then the journey to the sea begins, and from Riyadh it has two roads between which we choose at booking:

Comparison By truck to Jeddah port Through the dry port and the Dammam train
Inland distance About 950 km by road About 550 km on the freight line
Where export clearance is done At Jeddah Islamic Port At Riyadh Dry Port, before the train moves
The ship’s route to Morocco North to the Suez Canal directly Round the Arabian Peninsula and then the Red Sea, so the voyage is longer
When it is used For most shipments of furniture, cars and goods For commercial containers served by a line from Dammam with a better date or fare

The sea service is detailed on the sea freight page, and what happens to a container inside Jeddah port is in the article International sea freight from Jeddah.

Full container or part load?

The first question after the survey: do your things fill a container or occupy a corner of one? With a full container you pay for the whole box and get a seal in your name and a shorter time. With a part load you pay only for your cubic metres, and accept that your things travel with other people’s and wait for the load to be complete.

Comparison Full container Part load
Basis of the charge A price for the container whatever is in it The cubic metres you occupy
Time from Riyadh 22–34 days depending on the port 30–40 days
Number of handlings Loading in Riyadh and unloading at the consignee’s Consolidation in Jeddah and sorting at the arrival warehouse
For whom A whole home, furniture with a car, or goods in bulk One or two rooms, cartons and a few pallets
Price starts from SAR 7,800 for the 20ft size SAR 780 a cubic metre

A 20ft container has an internal volume of about 33 cubic metres, and in practice takes the furniture of a two- to three-room flat once the gaps of stowage are counted. A 40ft container is about 67 cubic metres, enough for a small villa or a home with a car. The dimensions are on the container sizes page, and container fares from the port are in the article Container shipping prices from Jeddah.

Shipping furniture and appliances from Riyadh to Morocco

Riyadh furniture bound for Morocco goes through two tests in a row: the vibration of a long road to Jeddah, then roughly three weeks in a closed container around which heat and humidity change between the Red Sea, the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. Packing meant for a move inside the city is therefore not enough. We pack each kind in the way that suits it, and number each piece with a number that appears in the inventory:

Item How we prepare it
Bedrooms, wardrobes and majlis seating Dismantled, with each piece’s screws kept in a bag taped to it, then corrugated cardboard, corner protection and tight wrap
Glass, mirrors and marble tops Each sheet wrapped singly, then a timber frame or crate, and loaded standing on its edge
Fridge and freezer Unplugged a day before loading and dried inside, and they travel upright
Washing machine and air conditioner The washing machine drum is fixed with its transit bolts, and a refrigeration technician removes the air conditioner after pumping down the gas
Screens and electronics The original carton if there is one, or a reinforced carton with foam, with moisture-absorbing sachets
Rugs, carpets and curtains Cleaned and rolled into a cylinder inside thick polythene, never folded
Kitchenware and ornaments Wrapped singly and stood upright in small cartons, with the contents written on each carton

Appliances usually work in Morocco without modification, since the supply there is 220 volts at 50 hertz and the sockets are European with two round pins, so a plug adaptor is enough. Mind one customs point: a new appliance in its box does not count as used household belongings, so duties are charged on it even if its owner is returning for good. On arrival we unload the furniture and assemble it if you ask. The service is explained on the furniture shipping page, and packing methods are in the packing guide.

Returnees’ furniture: the exemption for Moroccans living abroad

A Moroccan who ends his residence in the Kingdom and goes back to settle in his country has a special customs regime for his belongings, known in Morocco as change of residence. Under it he brings in his used furniture and effects without duties, on conditions laid down by the Administration of Customs and Indirect Taxes. This is a summary of what is applied, and we confirm what is in force before shipping because its details are revised:

Item What is applied
Who benefits A Moroccan living abroad on his final return, and once per family
The basic document The change-of-residence certificate, issued by the Moroccan consular services or by the authority of the place of residence abroad
The list of belongings Detailed, dated and signed by its owner, and written in Arabic or French
Condition of the items Used and owned by the person. New items fall outside the exemption
Timing The furniture enters with the change of residence in one go. If it is split into two shipments, both are named in the first list and pass through the same customs office within six months
Ceilings The exemption has value limits that customs sets and changes, and we review them with our broker before loading

Note: the change-of-residence certificate is applied for while you are still in Saudi Arabia. Anyone who travels without it finds it hard to obtain from Morocco, and his container waits in the port at his expense. Make it the first paper in the return file, not the last.

Shipping parcels and gifts by the kilogram

Most of what residents of Riyadh send to their families is not furniture but small boxes: children’s clothes before Eid, Sukkari and Ajwa dates, perfumes, a phone for a brother, books. These parcels fly from King Khalid Airport and are delivered at the consignee’s address, and there is no minimum volume other than the parcel itself.

  • Price: a parcel up to 5 kg starts from SAR 320. Once the shipment goes above 100 kg, a kilogram starts from SAR 28.
  • Large and not urgent: several heavy cartons join part-load sea freight from SAR 1,000 a shipment, and arrive after 30 to 40 days.
  • Duties in Morocco: a parcel is declared at its value, and the consignee may pay duty and tax according to it. So write the true value and a description of each item, not the word “gifts” alone.
  • Consignee details: the name as on the national ID card, the address with district and city, and a Moroccan mobile number that is answered.
  • What does not go in a parcel: medicines without a prescription, flammable liquids, cash and gold.

Details are on the parcel shipping page.

Shipping commercial goods from Riyadh to Morocco

Shipping commercial goods from Riyadh to Morocco

Commercial cargo differs from personal belongings in everything: it has a seller and a buyer, an invoice, and a registered importer who bears the clearance. Out of Riyadh go Qassim dates gathered in its markets, perfumes, incense and abayas from the Batha markets and the south of the capital, and plastic products and packaging materials from its industrial cities. We collect them from the supplier or the factory, prepare them on wrapped and numbered pallets, and review their documents before a ship is booked for them.

Item What is needed
The importer A registered Moroccan company or trader with the common company identifier. An individual cannot clear commercial goods in his own name
Basic documents A commercial invoice, a packing list and a bill of lading, with the importer’s details written in them in one form
Certificate of origin Issued by the chamber of commerce. Arab origin is exempt from customs duty within the Greater Arab Free Trade Area
Certificate of conformity For industrial products subject to control, obtained from an approved body before shipping, not after
Foodstuffs and dates A health certificate and a sufficient expiry date, and they pass the food safety control in Morocco
Product label The country of origin and the importer’s name on the pack, in Arabic or French for consumer goods
Pallets Heat-treated timber bearing the ISPM 15 stamp, with the boxes tied to it by straps and clear wrap
Tax on arrival Value added tax at 20% as the general rate, calculated on the value of the goods with the freight

Agree the delivery term with the Moroccan buyer before issuing the invoice: does your responsibility end when the ship is loaded in Jeddah, when it reaches the Moroccan port, or at the door of his warehouse? On that one line rests who pays the freight, the insurance and the clearance. For a regular exporter we fix a weekly collection day from his warehouse in Riyadh. The service is explained on the commercial shipping page, and experience of the route from the coast is in the article Cargo shipping from Jeddah to Morocco.

Car shipping from Riyadh to Morocco

Riyadh is the largest car market in the Kingdom: showrooms, auctions and used-car yards where something tempting to buy and ship is sold every week. The car is not driven to the port; it is lifted onto a car carrier from your home or from the auction yard on the strength of the sale contract, and reaches Jeddah port in a day or two. There it takes one of three paths to Tanger Med or Casablanca:

Path How it is done For whom
RoRo The car enters the ship on its wheels over a ramp and is lashed in the hold. It is shipped completely empty and with little fuel A running car travelling alone, and it is the cheapest
A dedicated container One car in a 20ft container, or two cars in a 40ft, with the wheels secured by straps and timber chocks A valuable car or one that does not run
A container shared with the furniture The car at the far end of a 40ft container behind a timber partition, and the household furniture in the rest Someone returning for good with his car and his home together

The RoRo fare for a saloon starts from SAR 2,200 from Jeddah port, and moving the car from Riyadh is added to it. Before handover we photograph the car from every side and write the odometer reading in a record, and against that record you receive it in Morocco. On the Saudi side you need an export certificate from the traffic department after settling fines and cancelling the plates. The two methods are compared on the RoRo car shipping and container car shipping pages.

Conditions for a car entering Morocco, and returnees’ concessions

The most important part of shipping a car to Morocco happens before it is bought. Moroccan customs restricts the clearance of used cars by their age, and grants Moroccans living abroad concessions on conditions. A car bought at a tempting price at an auction in Riyadh may not get in at all if its year of manufacture is outside the limit. These are the rules as applied, and they are among those amended by finance laws, so we confirm what is in force before any payment:

Case The rule as applied
The general rule A used car more than 5 years old is not cleared for permanent import
The retired Moroccan living abroad Whoever has reached 60 and lived abroad for at least 10 years benefits from a 90% reduction of the value used to calculate the duties, for one passenger car in a lifetime and within a value ceiling
Someone returning for good below retirement age Reductions on the car’s value linked to its age, the length of ownership and its owner’s residence, at rates set by customs
Temporary admission The car of a resident abroad stays in Morocco on its foreign plate for 180 days a year without clearance, and may not be sold or lent
Papers for the concession The consular registration certificate or proof of residence, the national ID card, the vehicle registration document, and the purchase invoice for a recent car
  1. Before buying: you send the model, the year of manufacture and the engine size, and we reply with what applies to it.
  2. Papers in Riyadh: the registration or a notarised sale contract, the owner’s ID, settlement of fines, then the export certificate.
  3. Collection: a carrier from your home, the showroom or the auction yard, with a photographed record of condition and odometer.
  4. The port: it is handed to the RoRo yard or secured in its container, and the bill of lading is issued.
  5. In Morocco: the broker lodges the concession file if its owner is entitled to it, and the car is handed over against the record.

For anyone hesitating between shipping his car and selling it: ask us for the sum before you decide. We put together the shipping cost with an estimate of the duties after the concession, so that you can compare it with the price of a similar car in the Moroccan market. The general export rules are in the article Car shipping from Saudi Arabia, and the kinds of service in the car shipping guide.

Moroccan customs and clearance

Customs in Morocco looks first at the status of the shipment: a returnee’s belongings, a trader’s goods, or a personal parcel. The documents and duties are built on that status. The declaration is lodged electronically, and the broker can prepare it before the ship berths if the file reaches him complete from Riyadh. This is what awaits each kind:

Type of shipment What is paid What decides the speed of release
Furniture and belongings of someone returning for good Exempt within the change-of-residence conditions The change-of-residence certificate and the signed list
Furniture and belongings of a non-returnee Duties and tax according to the value customs assesses A clear list with values, and the presence of the consignee or his agent
Commercial goods of Arab origin Value added tax, with no customs duty when the certificate of origin is accepted The certificate of origin and the certificate of conformity
Commercial goods of another origin Customs duty according to the item, then value added tax The correct tariff code for the item on the invoice
A car Duties according to value and engine size, reduced by the returnee’s concession where due The age condition and the concession file
A personal parcel Duty and tax according to the declared value An accurate description of the contents

Moroccan duties are paid by the consignee there, and we estimate them for him before the shipment leaves Riyadh so that they do not come as a surprise. The procedures are on the customs clearance page.

Documents required for shipping from Riyadh to Morocco

We ask for pictures of the papers on the day of booking, not the day of loading. A mistake in a name or a number is corrected in Riyadh with a message, whereas after the ship arrives it means a container standing in the port yard and storage charges building up. These are the papers for each kind:

Type of shipment Documents Note
A returnee’s furniture and belongings The passport, the Saudi residence permit or final exit visa, the change-of-residence certificate, the signed list of belongings, and the bill of lading An authorisation for the broker in Morocco on a form we send you
Furniture sent to family The sender’s ID, a list of the contents and their value, and the consignee’s details and national ID card Duties are paid on it on arrival
Commercial goods A commercial invoice, a packing list, a certificate of origin, a bill of lading, and a certificate of conformity or health certificate where required The importer’s name in the very same letters on every paper
A car The registration or notarised sale contract, the export certificate, the owner’s passport, and the concession papers if any The year of manufacture is checked before anything else
An air parcel The sender’s ID, a statement of contents and value, and the consignee’s address and mobile Within the limits of personal use

A specimen and explanation of each document is on the shipping documents page.

What is not shipped to Morocco, or needs a licence

We go through the contents of the shipment with you before packing, because a single offending item inside a wardrobe is enough to hold up a whole container at inspection. Some items are refused in both countries, and some enter Morocco with a licence from a competent body. These are the main ones as applied:

Item Ruling
Narcotics, firearms and their ammunition, and explosive materials Prohibited
Counterfeit goods and indecent publications Prohibited and confiscated
Drones With a prior licence from the Moroccan authorities, and seized without one
Bladed weapons and hunting rifles With a security licence
Radio communication devices and satellite equipment Restricted, with the approval of the telecommunications regulator
Medicines For personal use only, with a prescription or medical certificate
Plants, seeds and animals With health certificates, and some with a special permit
Used tyres, and used clothing in commercial quantities Not accepted for commercial import
Gas cylinders, fuel and pressurised aerosols Not loaded in a container or on a plane
Cash, gold and original documents Not shipped; they travel with their owner

You will find every restricted category on the prohibited items page. Whenever one item leaves you in doubt, a photo sent to us ahead of packing day settles the matter.

Tanger Med or Casablanca?

Morocco has two seaboards, and each has its major port. Tanger Med lies at the Strait of Gibraltar and is the first that a ship coming from the Suez Canal reaches, so the sailing time to it is shorter and its calls are more frequent. The port of Casablanca is on the Atlantic Ocean, in the heart of the region where most consignees live. We choose between them by the delivery address, not by the sea fare alone:

Port Location Sailing time from Jeddah Cities it serves
Tanger Med The north, on the Strait of Gibraltar 10–16 days Tangier, Tetouan, Larache, Al Hoceima, Fez, Meknes, Oujda
Casablanca The centre, on the Atlantic 14–22 days Casablanca, Mohammedia, Rabat, Salé, Kenitra, El Jadida, Marrakech, Beni Mellal
Agadir The south, on the Atlantic Depending on the line, via a transhipment port Agadir, Inezgane, Taroudant and the southern cities

An example makes the point: a container bound for Fez is discharged at Tanger Med and completes about 300 km by road, and a container bound for Marrakech is discharged at Casablanca and completes about 240 km. Swapping the two ports adds hundreds of kilometres to the Moroccan truck. Fuller information is on the ports and gateways page.

Receiving the shipment in Casablanca and the Moroccan cities

Receiving the shipment in Casablanca

In Casablanca, and in every city we deliver to, receipt runs in the same order. Our agent clears the shipment at the port, then calls the consignee to agree the delivery day. The truck arrives at the address, the furniture is unloaded and carried into the flat or house, and whatever was dismantled in Riyadh is assembled if assembly is part of your order. The consignee checks the pieces against the inventory number by number before signing. We deliver to all the regions of Morocco:

Region Cities Usual port
The Atlantic centre Casablanca, Mohammedia, Rabat, Salé, Temara, Kenitra, El Jadida, Settat, Khouribga Casablanca
The north Tangier, Tetouan, Larache, Al Hoceima Tanger Med
The east Oujda, Nador, Berkane, Taza Tanger Med, about 550 km to Oujda
The interior Fez, Meknes, Ifrane, Sefrou, Khemisset Whichever has the nearer date
Marrakech and around Marrakech, Safi, Essaouira, Beni Mellal, Ouarzazate Casablanca
The south Agadir, Taroudant, Guelmim, Laayoune, Dakhla Casablanca then by road, with Agadir about 460 km

Many houses in the old medinas of Fez, Marrakech and Tetouan stand in alleys no truck can enter. Mention that in the address, and we arrange a small cart or porters from the nearest point the truck can reach. Anyone who wants a single service from his door in Riyadh to his family’s door will find its terms on the door-to-door shipping page, including what the price covers and which duties remain with the consignee.

Air freight from Riyadh to Morocco

Air freight from Riyadh to Morocco

Here Riyadh is ahead of the coastal cities: an air shipment does not leave the city to begin its journey, as King Khalid International Airport is on its northern edge. Parcels and urgent samples are handed to its cargo village and fly to Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca, either on a direct flight of about seven and a half hours, or through a connecting airport when the direct flight does not fit your date. After clearance at the airport they are delivered to the address within 3 to 6 days of our collecting them.

  • For whom: personal parcels, traders’ samples, spare parts, documents, and the bags a returnee needs as soon as he arrives.
  • How it is charged: the parcel’s actual weight is compared with its volumetric weight and the greater is taken. Volumetric weight is the three dimensions in centimetres multiplied together and divided by 6000. Try it in the volumetric weight calculator.
  • Price: starts from SAR 28 a kilogram for shipments above 100 kg, and from SAR 320 for a parcel up to 5 kg.
  • Beyond Casablanca: the shipment is moved by road to Rabat, Marrakech, Fez, Tangier and Agadir, which adds a day or two.
  • What does not fly: perfumes in quantity, aerosols, loose lithium batteries, and any flammable liquid.

The plane is not for furniture or heavy goods, as its cost per kilogram is several times that of the sea. The common answer among returnees is for the container to travel by sea, preceded by an air parcel holding what the family needs in its first weeks. The service is explained on the air freight page, and the two methods are compared in the shipping methods comparison.

Is there land freight from Riyadh to Morocco?

This question comes up often because some advertisements mention trucks reaching Morocco in a week. In reality the land road passes through Jordan or by ferry to Egypt, then Libya, Tunisia and Algeria, and the land border between Algeria and Morocco is closed. So we neither offer land freight to Morocco nor promise it. For us, land is for the Gulf states, Jordan and their neighbours, and it is detailed on the land freight page. Morocco’s road is the sea, with the plane for light and urgent items.

Collection from Riyadh’s districts and nearby towns

We come to your address in any part of the capital, bringing the dismantling and packing crew and their materials. In towers and residential compounds we arrange with the management, ahead of the date, the booking of the lift and a place for the truck to stand. We also collect from showrooms, auction yards and suppliers’ warehouses:

Area Examples Note
North Riyadh Al Malqa, Hittin, Al Yasmin, Al Narjis, Al Arid, Al Sahafa, Al Nakheel Villas and compounds, and the container stands outside the house in most streets
East Riyadh Qurtubah, Al Yarmouk, Ishbiliyah, Al Hamra, Al Rawdah, Al Naseem Blocks and flats, and we need to know the floor and the lift
The centre Al Olaya, Al Malaz, Al Sulaimaniyah, Al Muruj Towers and offices, with loading outside the rush hours
The west and south Irqah, Dhahrat Laban, Al Suwaidi, Tuwaiq, Al Shifa, Badr, Al Aziziyah Close to the exit for the Jeddah road
Diriyah and Al Muzahimiyah Up to about 60 km to the west In the direction of the road to Jeddah, so they join the same trip
Al Kharj About 80 km to the south By prior arrangement, and collected before the day of the trip
Industrial cities and markets Factories, warehouses and wholesale markets Pallets or the container loaded at the supplier’s site

The day you hand back your flat in Riyadh may not coincide with the ship’s date, or your home in Morocco may be finished months later. In both cases your things stay in our warehouse as they left your home: packed, numbered and with their inventory. You can ask for one piece of them or postpone the whole shipment. The terms of the service are on the storage page, and our other services in the capital are in the article International shipping company in Riyadh.

Steps for shipping from Riyadh to Morocco

  1. The request: call, or send on WhatsApp pictures of your things or the details of your car, and write your district in Riyadh and the Moroccan city. Or fill in the request form on the website.
  2. Questions of status: we ask whether you are returning for good, sending to your family or selling to an importer, because the answer decides the papers and the duties.
  3. Survey and price: we estimate the volume from pictures or a visit, and send the price line by line with the method, the port and the time.
  4. The papers: we review pictures of the documents, and remind the returnee of the change-of-residence certificate before he travels.
  5. Loading day: dismantling, packing and inventory at your home, then loading the container and sealing it in front of you.
  6. To the port or the airport: the Riyadh–Jeddah trip and then export clearance, or handover to King Khalid Airport.
  7. On the way: we send the container or bill of lading number, and a message on sailing, on passing the canal and on arrival.
  8. In Morocco: clearance at the port, then delivery, unloading and assembly, and the consignee’s signature on the inventory.

Tracking and insurance

A Morocco shipment is out of its owner’s sight for about a month, and passes through the hands of a road haulier, a shipping line, a broker and a Moroccan truck. Two things reassure you during that time: knowing where it is, and knowing what your rights are if something happens to it.

  • Where the shipment is: the container number is entered on the shipping line’s website and shows the port it has left and the next port. How to read it is on the track your shipment page.
  • Our messages: five points we tell you about without your asking: its leaving Riyadh, its loading on the ship, its passing Suez, its berthing in Morocco, and the issue of the release.
  • Insurance: the sea carrier’s liability is limited by weight, not by the value of your things. So to anyone shipping a whole home, a car or valuable appliances we suggest an insurance policy charged as a percentage of the declared value. Its terms are on the cargo insurance page.
  • Evidence for a claim: pictures of the pieces before they are packed, the signed inventory, and the consignee’s written remark at the moment of delivery.

Shipping from Morocco to Riyadh

The route is asked for in the opposite direction too. A Moroccan employee moves to work in Riyadh and brings his belongings, a Saudi family buys a Moroccan lounge suite, rugs, brass lanterns and zellige tiles from Fez and Marrakech, and a restaurant imports tagine pots. Our agent collects from the workshop or the shop, the container sails from Tanger Med or Casablanca to Jeddah port, and it is then cleared and moved by road to Riyadh. Light and urgent items arrive by air at King Khalid Airport.

  • On entry to the Kingdom: customs duty according to the item, and value added tax at 15%.
  • Commercial goods: whatever the technical regulations cover is registered on the Saber platform before it is shipped.
  • Woodwork and handicrafts: packed in treated timber crates, because carving and coloured glass cannot bear stacking.

Three common cases on the Riyadh–Morocco route

Most of those who call us resemble one of three. We set them out because the reader usually finds himself in one of them, and so knows where to start:

  • Returning for good from north Riyadh to Rabat: a whole home and a recent car after long years of work. What suits him best is a 40ft container taking the car and the furniture together, starting from SAR 14,720, and discharged at Casablanca. The first thing he does is obtain the change-of-residence certificate before booking his flight.
  • Buying a car at auction for a brother in Fez: he sends the year of manufacture before he bids. If it is within the age limit we collect it from the auction yard on the sale contract, and if it is not we advise a newer model. One message protects the whole price of the car.
  • A family furnishing their mother’s home in Marrakech: a lounge suite, a fridge, a washing machine, a rug and boxes of gifts. They travel as a part load starting from SAR 2,300, and one of the sons receives them there and pays whatever duties are due on them, because they are not a returnee’s belongings.

Tips before shipping to Morocco

  • Start arranging six weeks before your travel date if it falls in summer or just before Ramadan.
  • Set aside a room for what you will carry with you on the plane and lock it on packing day, so that no passport or medicine goes into the container.
  • Write the list of belongings in French or Arabic, and state the brand of each electrical appliance in it.
  • Do not buy new appliances to ship with the furniture, as their sealed boxes take them out of the exemption.
  • Agree with whoever will receive in Morocco on the day he will be there, and send us a picture of his national ID card.
  • Leave nothing in the car’s cabin or boot if it is to travel by RoRo.

Ways of securing the load inside the container are on the packing and lashing page.

How do you choose a shipping company from Riyadh to Morocco?

There are those who own a route that runs every week, and those who accept your order and then look for someone to carry it out. The difference does not show in the advertisement, but in the questions they ask you and the answers they give you. Test whoever you deal with on these points:

What you ask about A reassuring sign A warning sign
The road to Morocco Sea and air, and they explain why “A land truck that arrives in a week”
Transport from Riyadh to the port A written line with its price Not mentioned, then it appears on the bill
The car They ask about the year of manufacture before the price “Buy it and leave the rest to us”
A returnee’s furniture They ask for the change-of-residence certificate early “Everything gets in without papers”
The time A door-to-door time with a minimum and a maximum “Ten days by sea to Casablanca”
The Moroccan side A known broker at the port of arrival and a contact number Their service ends at the quay in Jeddah
Proof A commercial registration, a signed inventory and pictures A verbal promise and a personal account

Common mistakes when shipping to Morocco

  • Buying a car at auction before making sure its year of manufacture allows it to be cleared.
  • Travelling for good without the change-of-residence certificate, then trying to obtain it from Morocco.
  • Splitting a returnee’s furniture into two shipments without naming the second in the first list.
  • Sending commercial goods in the name of a relative who has no registration and no company identifier.
  • Writing a value lower than the true one on the parcel declaration, so customs reassesses it and delays it.
  • Asking for Tanger Med for a consignee in Agadir because its fare is lower.
  • Comparing two offers, one of which includes transport from Riyadh while the other starts at the quay in Jeddah.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Riyadh to Morocco

How much does shipping from Riyadh to Morocco cost?

It depends on what you send. The furniture of one room with its cartons in a shared container starts from SAR 2,300, a cubic metre from SAR 780, and the smallest sea shipment from SAR 1,000. A 20ft container starts from SAR 7,800 and a 40ft container from SAR 14,720. By plane a kilogram starts from SAR 28, and a parcel of no more than 5 kg from SAR 320. Send your list to 0552803439 and the final figure will reach you.

How many days does a shipment need from Riyadh to reach Morocco?

A full container reaches the consignee’s door in 22 to 30 days if it is discharged at Tanger Med, and in 26 to 34 days if it is discharged at Casablanca. A part load needs 30 to 40 days because it waits for its container to fill. An air parcel is delivered in 3 to 6 days.

Riyadh is far from the sea, so who moves my shipment to the port?

We do. A closed truck carries the furniture, or a tractor unit pulls the container once it has been loaded at your home, to Jeddah Islamic Port about 950 km away. Some commercial containers have a second road: Riyadh Dry Port and then the freight train to Dammam port. This transport is a visible line in your price, not a later surprise.

At which Moroccan port is the container discharged?

At Tanger Med if the consignee is in Tangier, Tetouan, Fez or Oujda, and at the port of Casablanca if he is in Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech or Agadir. The test is the shortest road leg after release, together with the date of the nearest ship.

Is my used furniture exempt from Moroccan customs?

A Moroccan returning for good has his used furniture and belongings exempted once per family, with a change-of-residence certificate and a detailed, dated and signed list. The exemption has ceilings and conditions that the Moroccan customs administration sets and alters, so we go over the current ones with you before loading. Anyone who is not a returnee has duties paid by the consignee according to the value of what arrives.

Can I ship my car from Riyadh to Morocco?

Yes. A car carrier takes it from your home or from the auction yard to Jeddah port, and it is then shipped by RoRo or inside a container. The RoRo fare for a saloon starts from SAR 2,200 from Jeddah port. Before booking, though, we check the year of manufacture, because Morocco restricts the customs clearance of used cars by a set age.

What is the age ceiling for a used car in Morocco?

As applied, a used car more than 5 years old is not cleared for permanent import, with limited exceptions for categories of Moroccans living abroad. The rule is amended from time to time, so send us the model and year of manufacture before you buy or bid.

What is the Moroccan retiree’s concession on his car?

A Moroccan living abroad who has reached 60 and has lived outside Morocco for at least 10 years benefits from a 90% reduction of the car’s value used to calculate the duties, once in a lifetime, for a passenger car within a value ceiling set by customs. The papers are prepared while you are still in the Kingdom.

Can I put my furniture and my car in one container?

Yes, in a 40ft container. The car goes in first and is secured, a timber partition is then built in front of it, and the furniture is stowed in the remaining part. The result is one bill of lading and one clearance, which is what most people returning for good choose.

Do you ship small parcels and gifts?

Yes, by air from King Khalid Airport. A parcel up to 5 kg starts from SAR 320, and anything above 100 kg starts from SAR 28 a kilogram. The consignee may pay duties in Morocco according to the declared value.

Is there land freight from Riyadh to Morocco?

We do not offer it. The road crosses several North African countries, and the land border between Algeria and Morocco is closed, so no truck from the Kingdom reaches Morocco overland. Sea is for furniture, goods and cars, and the plane for whatever cannot wait.

What does a trader need to ship goods to Morocco?

A registered Moroccan importer with the common company identifier, a commercial invoice, a packing list and a certificate of origin, and a certificate of conformity for the items subject to control. The Arab certificate of origin is what opens the door to exemption from customs duty.

Will my electrical appliances work in Morocco?

Morocco’s electricity is 220 volts at 50 hertz, and the sockets are European with two round pins. An appliance whose label reads 220–240 volts works with a plug adaptor only, and check the label of motor-driven appliances to be sure they accept 50 hertz.

Do you store the shipment if my home in Morocco is not ready?

Yes. It stays in our warehouse packed and numbered against the same inventory you signed, and no ship is booked for it until you tell us. Storage is charged by time and volume, and is stated in the price before it starts.

Do you ship from Morocco to Riyadh?

Yes. Our agent collects from the Moroccan city, the container sails from Tanger Med or Casablanca to Jeddah port, and it is then moved by road to Riyadh after clearance. Urgent items come by air to King Khalid Airport.
