Who ships from Dammam to Bahrain, and what do they ship?

Dammam and Bahrain share a daily neighbourly relationship unlike any other international route. Employees live on one side and work on the other, families have half their members in Khobar and half in Muharraq, and factories in the Second Industrial City sell to Manama traders just as they sell to traders in Al-Ahsa. That is why shipments on the route range from a single suitcase to a whole house to a truck of goods repeated every week.

Who ships What they usually ship What suits them
A Bahraini family that has finished working in the Eastern Province A full household of furniture, appliances and air conditioners A dedicated truck with dismantling and assembly
A Saudi or resident employee transferred to a branch in Bahrain A bedroom, a desk and cartons A shared load
A family sending to relatives Bags, gifts, dates and home appliances Door-to-door parcels
A factory or supplier in Dammam or Jubail Pallets of building materials, food and plastics A regular truck with a certificate of origin
An online shop Small orders for customers in Bahrain Daily consolidation and distribution to addresses
A car owner or showroom A sold, luxury or broken-down car An open or enclosed carrier

Route and transit time from Dammam to Bahrain

The road is short and clear. The truck leaves Dammam southwards for Khobar and then the entrance of the King Fahd Causeway in Al-Aziziyah, about 35 km in all. It then travels 25 km over the waters of the Gulf and stops on the middle island, where both countries’ formalities are completed. It comes down at Al Jasra on Bahrain’s west coast, and from there reaches central Manama in about half an hour. The driving itself takes no more than an hour and a half, and what really sets the transit time is loading, clearance and the truck queue.

Stage Approximate distance What happens
From your address in Dammam to the causeway entrance About 35 km Loading, then a road within the metropolitan area through Khobar
King Fahd Causeway to the middle island About 12 km The truck lane, then Saudi export
The middle island — Bahraini customs and inspection
From the island to Al Jasra About 13 km The rest of the causeway and entry into Bahrain
From Al Jasra to the consignee’s address 10–45 km Distribution, unloading and assembly
Shipping method Door-to-door time Suitable for
Dedicated closed truck The same or the next day A family’s furniture, and goods with a fixed date
Shared load One to 3 days One or two rooms, and a few pallets
Parcels and bags One to two days Cartons, gifts and small appliances
Car transporter The same or the next day Cars once the export papers are complete
Air freight The same or the next day Documents and urgent parcels

Some advertisements promise to deliver furniture within six or twelve hours. That is true of a ready parcel or a wrapped pallet, not of a house with four rooms that need dismantling, packing and a contents list. So we give you two durations: the preparation time at your home, and the road time after the truck doors are shut.

What lengthens the transit time?

  • Weekend congestion: the causeway lanes are busy on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and in holiday seasons.
  • An incomplete file: a truck arriving with no advance declaration starts its formalities from the beginning.
  • A vague list: the words “household items” invite a manual inspection, carton by carton.
  • New among used: an appliance in its box amid used furniture holds the shipment until it is valued.
  • A building with no permit: some towers in Bahrain allow unloading only at set hours.

Shipping prices from Dammam to Bahrain

The short distance brings the road charge down to its minimum, so most of the price sits in three lines: the crew’s work at your home in dismantling and packing, the crossing and clearance fees, and the unloading and assembly work in Bahrain. Anyone who grasps this understands why shipping from Dammam does not cost a tenth of shipping from Jeddah, even though the distance is a tenth. The following are the prices our services start from, from the sender’s door to the consignee’s door:

What you ship Method Price starts from
Parcel of up to 5 kg Shared land SAR 32
Carton Shared land SAR 140
Travel bags and cartons of up to 50 kg Shared land SAR 230
Large electrical appliance Shared load SAR 320
Cubic metre or pallet Shared load SAR 550
Bedroom Shared load SAR 740
Kitchen with dismantling and assembly Shared load SAR 830
Furniture of a small flat or studio Small truck SAR 1,100
Furniture of a three-room flat Dedicated truck SAR 2,300
Villa furniture Large dedicated truck SAR 3,220
Saloon car Car transporter SAR 1,100
4×4 car Car transporter SAR 1,200
Luxury car Enclosed carrier SAR 2,020
Urgent parcels and documents Air SAR 14 per kilogram
Heavy equipment and special loads Flatbed truck or sea Set on request

The prices circulating in the market for this route from Dammam are higher than the table on most lines. Travel bags of up to 50 kg are offered at between SAR 250 and 550, small residential furniture at between SAR 1,200 and 1,500, large furniture and sofas at between SAR 2,500 and 3,500, and a full household in a dedicated truck at between SAR 2,500 and 4,500. Electrical appliances are offered at between SAR 800 and 1,500, and commercial goods at between SAR 1,000 and 3,200 depending on weight. Many of these offers come with a large discount percentage that states no price before the discount, so compare the final figure and what it covers, not the percentage.

Factor How it changes the price
Shipment volume It is the basis, and you can estimate it with the CBM calculator before you call
A truck of your own or space in a truck The dedicated truck moves on your schedule, and the shared one costs less
The crew’s work at both ends Dismantling, packing, unloading and assembly are separate lines in the offer
Floor and lift Upper floors with no service lift add working time
Customs nature of the shipment Used personal effects differ from new goods and their tax
Crossing day Midweek is calmer, and the weekend means a longer wait

How do you cut the cost?

  • Share a truck if your shipment is one or two rooms, as the wait on this route is short.
  • Load on a Sunday, Monday or Tuesday, and avoid Thursday evening.
  • Prepare the small cartons yourself, and leave to the crew what needs skill, such as wardrobes and glass.
  • Get rid of what is not worth moving before the survey, since the price follows the volume.
  • Send photos of every room, because a correct estimate prevents a price difference on loading day.

A fuller explanation of the pricing lines is on the pricing factors page.

What sets shipping from Dammam apart?

Dammam is the only city in the Kingdom with all three shipping gateways to Bahrain close around it: the land causeway south of Khobar, King Abdulaziz Port on its shore, and King Fahd International Airport to its north-west. This gives the sender options not found in an inland city. It does not change the practical fact, though: most shipments go by truck over the causeway.

  • No overnight on the road: the truck loads, crosses and delivers in one shift, so your furniture does not spend a night in a yard.
  • Less handling: there is no consolidation warehouse between the city and the border, as on long routes.
  • One climate at both ends: the coastal humidity of Dammam is the same in Manama, so packing protects against humidity and dust rather than a temperature difference.
  • An industrial base: the industrial cities of Dammam and Jubail make repeated goods shipments a daily part of the route.
  • A return trip: the truck usually comes back loaded, which lowers the charge in both directions.

For other destinations from the same city, read the article international shipping company in Dammam.

Land transport services and same-day express shipping

Land transport on this route is not a single service. An urgent shipment takes a small vehicle that moves as soon as it is loaded. Household furniture takes a truck with a closed box. Equipment takes an open flatbed. Choosing the right vehicle saves hours on the causeway, because each type has its lane and procedure. These are the vehicles we work with:

Vehicle Approximate capacity When we choose it
Closed van or covered pickup Up to 6 cubic metres Urgent parcels, appliances and a few cartons the same day
Closed light truck About 20 cubic metres Furniture of a small flat or two rooms
Closed box truck 35–45 cubic metres Furniture of a large flat or small villa
Closed or curtain-sided trailer Up to 90 cubic metres A whole villa or goods on pallets
Standard or low-bed flatbed According to weight and dimensions Equipment, generators and containers
Truck with a hydraulic tail lift Heavy pallets Addresses with no loading dock or forklift

Same-day express shipping needs two things from you: that the shipment is packed and ready before noon, and that the consignee’s details and the value reach us the evening before so that we can lodge the declaration. The method in general is explained on the land freight page.

Furniture moving for families relocating from Dammam to Bahrain

Furniture moving for families relocating from Dammam to Bahrain

Most of those who move home on this route are Bahraini families who lived for years in Dammam, Khobar or Dhahran and then went back, and Saudi and resident families whose breadwinner moved to a job in Manama. These families are not moving cartons but a whole house, with its bedrooms, sitting room, kitchen and children’s toys. So we assign the family a dedicated truck and treat the move as a one- or two-day project with a single person in charge.

  • Survey: by photos or a visit, to settle the truck size, the number of workers and what needs a wooden crate.
  • Dismantling: bedrooms, wardrobes, kitchen and curtains are taken apart, and each piece’s screws go in a bag taped to it.
  • Packing: each piece with what suits it, as detailed in the packing section below.
  • Numbering: a number on every carton and piece, and the name of the room it will go to in the new home.
  • Air conditioners: a technician first draws the refrigerant back to the outside unit, then each of the two units gets its own wrapping.
  • Loading: heavy items at the bottom and front, and glass upright and tied to the wall of the box.
  • In Bahrain: unloading and assembly inside the home, with cartons distributed to rooms by their numbers.

Your appliances work in Bahrain as they are, since the voltage there is 230 volts and the sockets are the three-pin type used in the Kingdom. Details of the service are on the furniture shipping page.

A dedicated truck for the family or a shared load?

On long routes the difference between the two options is a full week. Here it shrinks to a day or two, because shared trucks to Bahrain fill quickly from the cities of the Eastern Province. So the real question is not about time but about two things: does your furniture fill more than half a truck? And do you want it loaded and unloaded once, without the box being opened for another shipment?

Point of comparison Dedicated truck Shared load
What you pay for The whole truck The cubic metres you occupy
Departure time An hour you choose When the truck is full
Transit The same or the next day One to 3 days
Inspection on the causeway One list for one owner Several lists, and one file may delay another
Suits The family home, and goods with a fixed date Up to two rooms or a few pallets

Shipping parcels, bags and home appliances

Small shipments are the most numerous between Dammam and Bahrain: a suitcase for a student, a carton of dates for relatives, and a screen or washing machine bought from a showroom in Khobar. These need no more than three things to arrive without delay: a correct weight and measurement, packing that withstands loading alongside other items, and an honest description of the contents and their value in the declaration.

  • Small parcel: up to 5 kg from SAR 32, delivered at the door.
  • Carton: from SAR 140, and it is best kept under 30 kg.
  • Bags: up to 50 kg from SAR 230, strapped and wrapped in film.
  • Large appliance: a fridge, washing machine or oven from SAR 320, with its moving parts secured.
  • Screens: in the original carton or a wooden crate, and loaded upright.
  • New in its box: declared with its invoice, and value added tax is charged on it in Bahrain.

Details are on the parcel shipping page.

Shipping commercial goods and repeat supply

The two countries are members of the customs union of the Gulf Cooperation Council, so goods of Saudi origin enter Bahrain without customs duty when accompanied by a valid certificate of origin. Dammam’s closeness lets a Bahraini trader order today and receive tomorrow, with no need for a large stock. We serve this kind of customer with regular trips that the supplier agrees once.

  • Unit: a pallet or cubic metre from SAR 550 in a shared load, and a dedicated truck from SAR 2,300.
  • Certificate of origin: issued electronically for a Saudi product, and without it the goods are treated as foreign.
  • Foreign goods: bear the unified Gulf duty of 5% unless payment at first entry into the council states is proven.
  • Value added tax: its standard rate in Bahrain is 10%, paid by the importer on entry.
  • Food and cosmetics: may need registration or a release from the Bahraini health authority, which we check before loading.
  • Invoicing: a tax invoice for each trip, and a monthly statement for those shipping under a contract.

Details are on the commercial shipping page.

Moving heavy goods and equipment

The Eastern Province is the heart of industry in the Kingdom, and from it generators, pumps, tanks, steel structures and contracting equipment leave for Bahrain. These loads do not go into a closed box; they are loaded on a flatbed, secured with chains and lashing straps, and covered with a tarpaulin if humidity affects them. What matters is that the dimensions and weight are known precisely before booking.

  • Standard load: anything within the permitted dimensions and weights crosses the causeway on a flatbed like any truck.
  • Exceptional load: anything over-wide, over-height or overweight needs prior coordination with the causeway authority, or goes by sea from Dammam port. We settle the route after reviewing the measurements.
  • Loading and unloading: a crane or winch at both ends, and the offer states who provides it.
  • Price: set on request according to weight, dimensions and flatbed type.

Details are on the heavy equipment shipping page.

Car shipping from Dammam to Bahrain

Most people in the Eastern Province enter Bahrain in their own cars on a visit and come back, which needs no shipping company. Shipping begins when the car is leaving the Kingdom for good to be registered in Bahrain, or when its owner cannot drive it: sold to a buyer there, broken down, a classic that is not driven on the road, or a group of cars for a showroom.

Car Means of transport Price starts from
Saloon Open car transporter SAR 1,100
4×4 or pickup Open car transporter SAR 1,200
Luxury, sports or classic Enclosed carrier SAR 2,020
Motorcycle In a crate or strapped to a base Set on request
  • Before export: fines are paid, the export certificate is obtained from the traffic department, and the plates are handed in.
  • Financed car: it leaves only with a release letter from the finance provider.
  • Car age: Bahrain limits the age of an imported used car, and we review what applies to your model before starting.
  • Duty: 5% of the value if its Gulf duty has not been paid before, then value added tax as the case requires.
  • Preparation: a quarter tank of fuel, no personal items, and photos of the body and odometer before loading.

Details are on the car shipping page.

Crossing the King Fahd Causeway in closed trucks and preparing the customs papers

Crossing the King Fahd Causeway from Dammam to Bahrain in closed trucks

The King Fahd Causeway is the only land road between the Kingdom and Bahrain. Trucks have a lane and customs yards on it other than those travellers pass through. The truck reaches the middle island, completes export on the Saudi side, moves to the Bahraini side for clearance and inspection, and continues to Al Jasra. All of it happens at one site whose two sides are only metres apart.

What counts is not the truck’s speed but the readiness of its file. The declaration is lodged electronically before arrival: through the Fasah platform in the Kingdom, and through the OFOQ system in Bahrain. The practice in force is that a crossing appointment is booked for the truck in advance on the platform. Bahrain’s Customs Affairs has announced that the average time to process a loaded truck fell to under an hour when its file is complete. That is why we prepare the papers in Dammam before the box door is shut, and we confirm the procedure in force before every trip.

Type of shipment Treatment in Bahrain Papers we prepare
Used furniture and belongings of a relocating person No duty under the rule in force National ID or residence permit, the consignee’s Bahraini identity card or residence permit, and a numbered contents list
Goods of Saudi or Gulf origin No customs duty, with value added tax Commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin
Goods of foreign origin 5% unless payment is proven, with the tax Invoice, packing list and the earlier import declaration
Car to be registered in Bahrain 5% if its duty has not been paid, and the age condition Registration, export certificate and the owner’s ID
Personal parcels and gifts No duty within the limits of personal use Description and value of the contents, and the consignee’s details

You do not have to be present on the causeway. An authorisation for the clearing agent, issued electronically, is enough, and we handle the rest. Each document is explained on the required documents page, and the steps of the procedure on the customs clearance page.

What is not shipped to Bahrain and what needs a permit

Most of what is refused on the causeway is not prohibited in itself; it was placed in the shipment without a declaration or licence. So go through the table before you seal your cartons, and tell us about any item you doubt so that we can ask about it before loading.

Item Ruling
Narcotics and intoxicants Do not leave the Kingdom
Weapons, their ammunition and fireworks Prohibited except with an official licence
Wireless devices and drones With a permit from the competent authority
Tobacco in commercial quantities With a licence, and subject to excise tax
Medicines A personal quantity with the prescription, and commercial ones with a release
Perfumes and aerosols in large quantities Flammable materials, declared and kept apart from furniture
Gas cylinders, fuel and paints Not loaded in a furniture truck
Cash, gold and original documents Stay with their owner and are not put in the shipment
Counterfeit goods Confiscated

The general list is on the prohibited items page.

Delivering shipments from Dammam in Manama, Muharraq, Riffa and Isa Town

Delivering shipments from Dammam in Manama, Muharraq, Riffa and Isa Town

The truck enters Bahrain at Al Jasra in the Northern Governorate, and from there the roads branch to every area. The farthest address, in Hidd or Durrat Al Bahrain, is no more than an hour away. So delivery usually takes place on the crossing day itself, with unloading and assembly inside the home. What differs between one area and another is the shape of the building and the street, not the distance:

Area Main districts What we watch for on delivery
Manama Juffair, Seef, Adliya, Umm Al Hassam, Sanabis Towers that require a service-lift booking and set hours
Muharraq Busaiteen, Arad, Hidd, Galali, Amwaj Islands Narrow old lanes to which we send a small vehicle
Riffa East Riffa, West Riffa, Al Bahair Spacious villas, with the truck stopping at the door
Isa Town The town’s blocks, Sanad, Jurdab Terraced houses and limited parking
Hamad Town and the north Hamad Town, Saar, Budaiya, A’ali, Al Jasra The areas nearest the causeway exit
Sitra and the south Sitra, Zallaq, Askar, Durrat Al Bahrain Industrial areas, warehouses and resorts

An address in Bahrain is written with three numbers: the building number, the road number and the block number. Send them in full with a Bahraini phone number for the consignee, and state the floor and whether there is a service lift. Details of the destination are on the shipping to Bahrain page, and the guide to all cities is in the article shipping company from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain.

Proper packing: why is it needed when the road is under two hours?

What we hear most on this route is: “The road is short, load it as it is.” But furniture is not damaged by the length of the road; it is damaged at three moments: when it is lifted onto the truck, when it is shifted during inspection on the causeway, and when it is brought down a staircase or lift. Those three moments exist in a two-hour trip just as in a week-long one. Added to them is the salty sea air over the causeway in the humid months.

Item Packing material Reason
Wood and wardrobes A blanket, then corrugated cardboard They prevent scratching on contact
Sofas and mattresses Tightly drawn plastic film It keeps out humidity and dust
Glass, mirrors and marble Foam and cardboard corners, and a wooden crate for large pieces They absorb shocks and protect the edges
Crockery and ornaments Wrapping paper and bubble wrap in a double-wall carton They keep the pieces apart
Screens and computers The original carton, or one cut to size with foam They prevent pressure on the face
Fridge and washing machine Emptying and drying, then foam and reinforced cardboard It prevents leaks and mould

Packing methods with pictures are in the packing guide.

Temporary and long-term storage before shipping

Not everyone who vacates a home in Dammam finds the home in Bahrain ready the same day. The lease may end before the new home is handed over, or the family may travel first and ask for its furniture weeks later. In these cases the furniture stays packed and numbered in a closed, monitored warehouse and is then loaded for Bahrain on the date you set.

  • Temporary storage: days or weeks between vacating one home and receiving another.
  • Long-term storage: months for those moving in stages or still undecided.
  • Inventory: the same list drawn up at loading is used at release and at customs.
  • For goods: stock drawn down by the pallet according to customers’ orders in Bahrain.
  • Price: set on request according to volume and duration.

Details are on the storage page.

Sea freight from Dammam to Bahrain: when is it used?

There is a short sea route between King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam and Khalifa Bin Salman Port in Hidd, served by container shuttle services between Gulf ports. It is not the route we recommend for household furniture or parcels, though. A container needs a booking, handling in two ports and sea clearance, and those take days. A truck covers the same distance over the causeway in hours.

  • Sea suits: a load heavier or wider than is allowed on the causeway, and full commercial containers already coming from Dammam port.
  • It does not suit: furniture, parcels and single cars, as its cost and time are higher.
  • Price: set on request according to the type of load and the vessel’s date.

The comparison between methods is on the shipping methods comparison page.

Air freight from Dammam to Bahrain

Air freight from Dammam to Bahrain

Short flights leave King Fahd International Airport for Bahrain International Airport in Muharraq, with a flying time of under an hour. An air shipment is delivered in Manama the same or the next day after clearance at both airports. We say frankly that on this route the truck beats the aircraft on most days. Air freight here is for urgent parcels and documents in specific cases, not for shipments in general.

Case Best option Reason
A document or contract to be signed tomorrow Express, from SAR 83 Delivered by hand with a signature of receipt
A parcel connecting with another flight from Bahrain airport Air It stays within the airport’s customs area
A consignment whose owner requires an air waybill Air A contractual or insurance requirement
Medicine or a laboratory sample Air with cooling A documented chain of custody
Cartons, appliances and furniture Land Faster and cheaper over the causeway
  • Price: from SAR 14 per kilogram. The airline bills whichever is larger, the scale weight or the weight derived from the size, and the volumetric weight calculator shows you which one that is.
  • Flight: we confirm the available flight on the booking day, as the schedule changes.
  • Not accepted by air: loose batteries, flammable liquids and aerosols.

Details are on the air freight page.

Collection from Dammam districts and Eastern Province cities

The crew reaches your address in any Dammam district: Al-Faisaliyah, Ash-Shati, Al-Mazruiyah, Uhud, An-Nur, Ar-Rayyan, Taybah, An-Nada and King Fahd Suburb, and the First and Second Industrial Cities for goods. We also collect from the neighbouring cities of the Eastern Province, all of them on or near the causeway road:

City Approximate distance from Dammam How we collect
Khobar and Dhahran About 20 km On the causeway road, loaded on crossing day
Qatif, Saihat and Safwa 10–35 km Collected in the morning to join the day’s truck
Ras Tanura About 60 km Collected before noon
Abqaiq About 75 km Gathered before crossing day
Jubail and Jubail Industrial City About 95 km A direct truck for goods, and consolidation for furniture
Al-Ahsa: Hofuf and Mubarraz About 150 km Gathered before crossing day

If your shipment is in another city of the Kingdom, the article shipping company from Riyadh to Bahrain explains the route from the capital.

Steps for shipping from Dammam to Bahrain

  1. Contact: you tell us what you are shipping, send its photos, and name your district in Dammam and your area in Bahrain.
  2. Offer: the price reaches you broken into its lines, with the transit time and the papers needed.
  3. Fixing the date: we choose the loading day and receive copies of the ID and the consignee’s card.
  4. Lodging the declaration: we prepare the contents list, lodge the declaration electronically and book the crossing appointment.
  5. Dismantling, packing and numbering: at your home or warehouse, with the pieces photographed.
  6. Loading and departure: the truck is shut and heads for the causeway the same day.
  7. Clearance: on the middle island, on its Saudi and Bahraini sides.
  8. Delivery: unloading and assembly inside the home, and signing the delivery note after inspection.

Tracking and insurance

On a trip that ends in one day you do not need a map to follow your shipment on, but four messages at the right times: the truck has left your address, it has entered the causeway, it has left customs, and it is now on its way to you with the expected time. The person in charge of the shipment sends them to you himself, and he is the one you reply to if you need to change the unloading time.

  • Shipment number: you look it up on the track your shipment page.
  • Photos: before packing and after the box is shut, sent to you before the truck moves.
  • Insurance: optional, covering the road, loading and unloading at a percentage of the declared value. The terms are on the cargo insurance page.
  • Delivery note: open the cartons marked “fragile” before signing, and write your remark on it.

Shipping from Bahrain to Dammam

The opposite direction is just as active. Saudis who have finished working in Bahrain return with their furniture, goods of Bahraini origin enter the Kingdom without duty on a certificate of origin, and purchases from Manama’s markets are sent to their owners in Khobar and Dammam. We collect from the address in Bahrain through our partners there, complete clearance on the causeway, and deliver in any district of the Eastern Province cities or in any other city in the Kingdom. The price is set on request according to the volume and the two addresses.

Tips before you ship to Bahrain

  • Understand what is required of you before booking: which papers, who attends, and what is paid in Bahrain.
  • Prepare the documents before loading day, not on its morning, as the declaration is lodged in advance.
  • Write a true value for everything new, since undervaluing delays more than it saves.
  • Put passports, contracts, jewellery and medicines in a bag that stays with you.
  • Ask the building management in Bahrain about unloading hours before you choose the loading hour.
  • Keep your phone and the consignee’s phone on during crossing day, as the clearing agent may need a quick answer.

How do you choose a reliable shipping company from Dammam to Bahrain?

The number of carriers on this route makes the choice harder, not easier. Anyone who owns a small truck advertises shipping to Bahrain. The difference shows in the questions the carrier asks you before giving a price, and in what he writes for you after it:

What you check What reassures you What calls for caution
Registration A commercial registration and a tax invoice A mobile number and a personal account
Price Itemised lines after seeing the photos A large discount percentage with no original price
Transit Separates preparation time from road time “Six hours” for any shipment whatever
Customs Asks you: used or new? And what is its origin? “No fees on anything”
Packing Specific materials for each piece and trained labour Direct loading on the grounds of the short distance
Delivery Unloading and assembly inside the home Dropping at the causeway exit or in a yard

Common mistakes on the Dammam–Bahrain route

  • Doing without packing because the distance is short.
  • Loading furniture in a private car or open pickup and heading for the travellers’ gates.
  • Choosing Thursday evening to cross and then complaining about the queue.
  • Slipping new appliances in their boxes among used furniture with no invoice.
  • Sending Saudi-made goods with no certificate of origin.
  • Writing an incomplete Bahraini address without the block and road numbers.
  • Shipping a car before confirming its accepted age and that it is free of any lien.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Dammam to Bahrain

How much does shipping from Dammam to Bahrain cost?

A parcel of up to 5 kg starts from SAR 32, a carton from SAR 140, travel bags of up to 50 kg from SAR 230 and a cubic metre from SAR 550. A bedroom starts from SAR 740, a small flat’s furniture from SAR 1,100, a dedicated truck for three rooms of furniture from SAR 2,300 and a car on a transporter from SAR 1,100. The final figure is fixed once we have seen photos of the shipment and know both addresses.

How long does a shipment from Dammam take to reach Bahrain?

A dedicated truck loads in Dammam in the morning and delivers in Bahrain that evening or the following day. A shared load takes one to 3 days because it waits for the truck to fill. A complete household adds a day for dismantling and packing before the truck moves.

How far is Bahrain from Dammam by road?

About 85 km from central Dammam to Manama. Roughly 35 km of that lies inside the Dammam metropolitan area as far as the causeway entrance south of Khobar, then 25 km is the length of the King Fahd Causeway over the Gulf, then about 25 km from Al Jasra to central Manama.

Do trucks cross the King Fahd Causeway, or is it for cars only?

Trucks cross it every day, on a lane and customs yards separate from the travellers’ gates. Both countries’ formalities are completed on the island in the middle of the causeway. A load whose dimensions or weight exceed what is allowed needs prior coordination, and we check that before booking.

Is customs duty paid on my used furniture in Bahrain?

The rule in force is that the used furniture and belongings of a person moving to live there enter without duty when accompanied by a detailed contents list and a copy of the Bahraini identity card or residence permit. New items in their boxes are treated as goods and value added tax is charged on them. We confirm what applies before shipping.

What taxes apply to commercial goods entering Bahrain?

Goods of Saudi or Gulf origin cross without customs duty when they carry a certificate of origin. Goods of foreign origin bear the unified Gulf duty of 5% unless payment at first entry is proven. On top of that comes value added tax in Bahrain, whose standard rate is 10% on new goods.

Do you move a whole family’s furniture in a truck of its own?

Yes. We assign the family a closed truck in which nothing is loaded for anyone else. The crew comes to the house, dismantles the bedrooms, wardrobes and kitchen, packs and numbers every piece, and the furniture is then unloaded and assembled in the new home in Bahrain.

Do you ship cars from Dammam to Bahrain?

Yes, on a car transporter from SAR 1,100, a 4×4 from SAR 1,200, and in an enclosed carrier for a luxury car from SAR 2,020. Because the distance is short many people drive their cars themselves, so shipping helps when the car has been sold, has broken down, or its owner is outside the Kingdom.

What is the age condition for a used car entering Bahrain permanently?

Bahrain sets a limit on the age of an imported used car, counted from the year of manufacture. It stood at five years for a long time, and approval to raise it to ten was then announced. Because application follows what the Bahraini authorities announce, we review your car’s position before the export certificate is issued.

Which papers should I prepare before loading day?

For furniture: a copy of the national ID or residence permit, a copy of the consignee’s Bahraini identity card or residence permit, the contents list that we prepare with you, and an authorisation for the clearing agent. For goods: a commercial invoice, a packing list and a certificate of origin. For a car: the registration, the export certificate and proof that it is free of fines and liens.

Is there sea freight from Dammam to Bahrain?

There is a short sea route between King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam and Khalifa Bin Salman Port in Hidd, served by container shuttle services. It serves commercial containers and heavy loads, though, not household furniture or parcels. A truck crosses the causeway in hours, while a container waits in two ports.

When do I need air freight over such a short distance?

In a few cases: a document or parcel that must connect with another flight from Bahrain airport, a commercial consignment whose owner requires an air waybill, or a day when the causeway is congested. The price starts from SAR 14 per kilogram, and express documents from SAR 83. Otherwise the truck beats the aircraft.

Which Dammam districts and Eastern Province cities do you collect from?

From all Dammam districts, such as Al-Faisaliyah, Ash-Shati, Al-Mazruiyah, Uhud, An-Nur, Ar-Rayyan and King Fahd Suburb. And from Khobar, Dhahran, Qatif, Saihat, Ras Tanura, Jubail, Abqaiq and Al-Ahsa. Shipments from the more distant cities are gathered before crossing day.

Do you deliver in Muharraq, Riffa and Isa Town, or only in Manama?

We deliver in Manama, Muharraq, Riffa and Isa Town, and in Hamad Town, Sitra, Budaiya, Zallaq and the remaining areas. Bahrain is small in area and its farthest address is less than an hour from the causeway exit, so the price differs little between one area and another.

Do you ship from Bahrain to Dammam?

Yes. The truck that takes a shipment to Bahrain usually returns with another. We collect from the address in Bahrain through our partners there, clear on the causeway, and deliver in Dammam, Khobar or any city in the Kingdom.
