What does an international furniture shipping company do?
Moving furniture between two districts is one day’s work: a truck, a crew and two hours on the road. Moving it to another country is a chain of seven or eight links, with borders, customs and perhaps a sea among them, and one weak link spoils everything before it. The international shipper holds the whole chain: it lists what you have, prepares it to withstand weeks of movement, picks a method that suits the destination, prepares and clears the paperwork, then delivers to your new home.
The difference shows in the details. Packing that is good enough for a trip across town is not good enough for a container lifted by a crane and rolling at sea, and the inventory nobody asks about in a local move is the first thing a customs officer asks for. A general introduction to the service is on the furniture shipping page.
Who needs to ship furniture out of the Kingdom?
The people who use this service fall into roughly four groups, and each differs in volume, paperwork and urgency.
| Shipper | What they usually move | Usual method | What matters most |
|---|---|---|---|
| A resident leaving for good | A whole home: bedrooms, sitting room, kitchen and appliances | A dedicated truck by land, or a container by sea | Customs relief at home and the final exit visa |
| An employee transferred to a branch abroad | The furniture of a flat and personal effects | A shared load or a 20ft container | An arrival date that matches the new tenancy |
| A family furnishing a home in its own country | Bedrooms, soft furnishings and new appliances | A shared load by volume | Duty on new, unused items |
| A company, an embassy or a public body | Office furniture, files and equipment | A dedicated truck or container | An exact inventory and delivery on a set day |
Survey and listing of the furniture before pricing
No price is sound for furniture that has not been seen. The survey answers three things: how many cubic metres your furniture will take once dismantled and packed, which pieces need a wooden crate or special care, and whether a hoist or a truck can reach your door. We carry it out by a visit in the large cities, by video call, or from photos and a list on WhatsApp.
After it you receive an estimate based on volume, not on guesswork. The table gives a first idea of how much space pieces take once packed.
| Piece or group | Approximate volume after packing | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Ten medium cartons | About one cubic metre | They fill the gaps above large pieces |
| A three-piece sofa set | 4–6 m³ | Fixed volume, as it does not come apart |
| A complete bedroom, dismantled | 8–12 m³ | The wardrobe is the largest item in it |
| A two-bedroom flat with a sitting room | 25–35 m³ | A 20ft container or a medium truck |
| A villa or a large house | 50–70 m³ | A 40ft container or an articulated lorry |
You can also do the sum yourself: enter the dimensions of each piece in the CBM calculator and add up the results.
Dismantling and packing furniture at home before shipping from Saudi Arabia

Packing day is the day the fate of the shipment is settled. The crew arrives with dismantling tools and packing materials and works room by room. Every piece is taken apart with care, as far as is needed to reduce its volume and protect it: the bed into headboard, side rails and slats, the wardrobe into doors, shelves and side panels, the dining table into top and legs. What does not come apart, such as sofas and solid cabinets, is wrapped as it stands.
The small hardware is what usually goes missing. So the screws and hinges of each piece are collected in a bag marked with its number and fixed to one of its panels, and complicated pieces are photographed before dismantling so that whoever reassembles them at the other end knows how they looked.
Packing materials and what suits each piece
- Painted and polished wood: a thin foam layer against scratches, then corrugated cardboard and reinforced corners on the edges.
- Sofas and mattresses: removal blankets, then thick plastic film that keeps out dust and damp.
- Packing glass and delicate pieces: foam and bubble wrap, then two boards or a wooden frame; mirrors and marble travel upright.
- Electrical appliances: the original box if you have it, otherwise foam and reinforced cardboard with moving parts secured.
- Crockery and books: each dish in its own paper in a double-wall carton, and small cartons for books so that they do not become too heavy.
Numbering and inventory
Every piece and every carton receives a numbered label, and the number is entered on the inventory with a description of the piece, its room and its condition before shipping. This list is three documents on one sheet: the pieces are counted against it at loading and at delivery, it is what customs sees, and insurance is built on it. So it is written in detail, “four-door wardrobe, wood, used”, not “household items”. You and the supervisor sign it and you keep a copy. The materials and the method are explained in the packing guide.
International furniture shipping methods: land, sea and air
The three methods are not equal alternatives to be chosen on price. Geography settles most cases: what is linked to the Kingdom by road goes by truck, what is separated from it by sea goes by container, and the plane complements both without replacing either. The table sums up where each method is used.
| Method | Destinations | Pricing unit | Door-to-door time | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Land, closed truck | The UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Iraq | The room, the cubic metre or the truck | One to 12 days | Every volume of furniture |
| Land, then ferry | Egypt | The carton, the room or the shipment | 7–15 days | Returnees’ furniture and appliances |
| Sea, full container | Turkey, North Africa, Europe and America | The container | 15–50 days | The furniture of a flat or a whole house |
| Sea, shared container | The same sea destinations | The cubic metre | One to two weeks longer than a full container | A room or two and cartons |
| Air | All destinations | The chargeable kilogram | One to 8 days | An urgent piece and personal effects |
A fuller comparison of the methods is on the shipping methods comparison page.
Shipping furniture by land from Saudi Arabia to the Gulf and the Levant

The closed truck is the shortest route between two homes. It is loaded at your door, crosses the border and is unloaded at the consignee’s door, with no port, no crane and no reloading on most routes. That is why furniture goes to the Gulf and the Levant by land even from Jeddah: a ship to the Gulf sails round the Arabian Peninsula and arrives weeks after the truck.
| Destination | Saudi crossing and its counterpart | Main delivery cities |
|---|---|---|
| UAE | Batha → Ghuwaifat | Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah |
| Qatar | Salwa → Abu Samra | Doha, Al Rayyan, Al Wakrah and Al Khor |
| Kuwait | Khafji → Nuwaiseeb, or Ar-Ruqi → Salmi | Kuwait City, Hawalli, Farwaniya, Ahmadi, Jahra and Mubarak Al-Kabeer |
| Bahrain | King Fahd Causeway | Manama, Muharraq, Riffa and Isa Town |
| Oman | Rub’ al-Khali, or through the UAE for the north of the Sultanate | Muscat, Sohar, Nizwa and Salalah |
| Jordan | Haditha → Al-Omari, Halat Ammar → Mudawwara, or Durra → Aqaba | Amman, Zarqa, Irbid and Aqaba |
| Syria | Through Jordan: Jaber → Nassib | Damascus, Homs, Hama, Aleppo and Latakia |
| Lebanon | Through Jordan and Syria to the Masnaa crossing | Beirut, Tripoli, Sidon and Zahle |
| Iraq | Jadidat Arar | Baghdad, Karbala, Najaf and Basra |
The route to Syria and Lebanon passes through more than one country, the state of its crossings changes, and the load may be moved from one truck to another at one of them. So we confirm the available route before shipping. For the Rub’ al-Khali crossing into Oman we check that it is operating for trucks on the day of booking; the alternative is the road through the UAE.
Securing with straps inside the truck
The overland road is long, with bumps and sudden stops, and a piece that shifts a centimetre at the start shifts a hand’s width by the end. So heavy pieces are stacked at the bottom and at the front of the body, each group is strapped to the wall rails, gaps are filled with cartons and cushions, and blankets go between surfaces that touch.
Dedicated or shared truck?
Someone moving a whole home is spared the wait by a dedicated truck, while someone moving a room or two would be paying in it for empty space they do not need.
| Point of comparison | Dedicated truck | Shared truck |
|---|---|---|
| Suits | A large flat, a villa or office furniture | A bedroom, a few pieces, cartons |
| Pricing | One price for the truck, by its size | By the room or the cubic metre |
| Departure day | The day you choose | When the load for the same destination is complete |
| Clearance | Your list alone | With other people’s lists, so one delay holds up all |
Details of the overland service are on the land freight page, and the overview of the six states is in the article shipping from Saudi Arabia to the Gulf states.
Shipping furniture to Egypt by truck and ferry
Egypt is a special case among the land destinations, because the Red Sea separates it from the Kingdom. The furniture is consolidated in your city and carried by a closed truck to a port on the west coast, usually Duba; the truck then drives onto the ferry with its load and rolls off at Safaga, Nuweiba or Hurghada. Inspection and clearance take place there, then the truck carries on to the warehouse in Egypt, from which shipments are distributed to homes by small vehicles.
The advantage of this system for furniture is that the pieces stay in one body from the Kingdom to the Egyptian warehouse. The time to the door is 7 to 15 days. A complete bedroom starts from SAR 1,650 and the furniture of a three-room flat from SAR 4,150. The stages of the route are explained in the article land freight from Saudi Arabia to Egypt, and the full price table is in the article furniture shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to Egypt.
Shipping furniture by sea in containers from Saudi Arabia to Europe and North Africa

Where the road ends, the container begins. Your furniture is loaded into a steel box closed with a numbered seal, taken to Jeddah Islamic Port and lifted onto a vessel that passes through the Red Sea and the Suez Canal into the Mediterranean. From there the lines branch out: east to Mersin and Istanbul, south to the ports of Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco, and north and west to the ports of Europe. From the Eastern Province some containers leave from King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, depending on the line available.
| Option | Practical capacity for packed furniture | What it takes |
|---|---|---|
| 20ft container | 25–28 m³ | The furniture of a two-to-three-bedroom flat |
| 40ft container | 55–60 m³ | The furniture of a villa, or a flat together with a car |
| Shared container | What you book by the cubic metre | A bedroom, cartons and a few appliances |
The nominal capacity is larger than these figures, but furniture does not stack like cartons, and gaps that cannot be filled remain between pieces. The internal dimensions of containers are on the container sizes page.
Securing the load inside the container
A container is lifted and lowered by cranes and rolls with the ship for days, so what is good enough for a truck is not enough for it. The load is built wall after wall from floor to roof: heavy and sturdy below, light and fragile above. Each wall is then strapped to the container’s lashing rings, and the last gap at the doors is closed with a timber barrier so that the load does not collapse on whoever opens them. Moisture-absorbing bags are added to protect wood and fabric.
The time to the door is 15 to 28 days to Mersin, 20 to 35 days to North Africa, 12 to 20 days to Europe’s Mediterranean ports and 25 to 40 days to northern Europe and Britain, and many of these services call at a transhipment port on the way. For landlocked countries such as Austria and Switzerland, the container is discharged at a European port and continues by truck or rail. The service is explained on the sea freight page.
International furniture shipping prices from Saudi Arabia
These are Home Safe’s starting prices by destination, the same figures published in each country’s article. The final price follows the measurement of your furniture after packing, the collection city, the delivery city and the services you ask for. Where no figure is sound before a survey we have written “set on request”.
Prices by land, by country
| Destination | Bedroom (starts from) | Furniture of a flat (starts from) | Furniture of a villa or whole house (starts from) | Destination article |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bahrain | SAR 740 | SAR 1,380 | SAR 3,220 | Shipping to Bahrain |
| Kuwait | SAR 920 | SAR 1,380 | SAR 3,700 | Furniture moving to Kuwait |
| UAE | SAR 1,380 | SAR 4,150 | SAR 8,300 | Shipping to the UAE |
| Qatar | SAR 2,000 | SAR 4,100 | Set on request | Shipping to Qatar |
| Oman | SAR 1,700 | SAR 2,950 | SAR 6,350 | Shipping to Oman |

| Lebanon | SAR 1,195 | SAR 3,700 | SAR 4,600 | Shipping to Lebanon |
| Iraq | SAR 2,300 | Set on request | SAR 5,980 | Shipping to Iraq |
| Egypt | SAR 1,650 | SAR 4,150 | Set on request | Shipping to Egypt |
The lowest figures in each row are for the Saudi city nearest the destination and rise from cities further away. A cubic metre in a shared truck starts from SAR 415 to Bahrain and from SAR 550 to the UAE and Qatar. The Syria and Lebanon figures in the last column are for the furniture of a large flat.
Prices by sea, by destination
| Destination | Cubic metre in a shared container | Bedroom or part-load of furniture | 20ft container | 40ft container | Destination article |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Turkey | SAR 415 | SAR 1,100 | SAR 4,600 | SAR 5,200 | Shipping to Turkey |
| Libya | SAR 415 | SAR 1,650 | SAR 4,600 | SAR 5,200 | Shipping to Libya |
| Tunisia | SAR 415 | SAR 1,650 | SAR 4,600 | SAR 5,200 | Shipping to Tunisia |
| Algeria | SAR 415 | SAR 1,650 | SAR 4,600 | SAR 5,200 | Shipping to Algeria |
| Morocco | SAR 780 | SAR 2,300 | SAR 7,800 | SAR 14,720 | Shipping to Morocco |
| European countries | Set on request | SAR 5,500 | Furniture of a whole house in a dedicated container: SAR 11,000 | Shipping to Europe | |
| United Kingdom | Set on request | Set on request | Furniture of a whole house in a dedicated container: SAR 11,000 | Shipping to the UK | |
| USA | Set on request | SAR 2,750 | SAR 7,800 | Set on request | Shipping to the USA |
The container figures to Turkey and North Africa are the ocean freight from Jeddah port; packing, haulage to the port and arrival charges are added according to the shipment. The furniture of a whole house to Algeria in a 20ft container, with collection and packing, starts from SAR 6,900. Shipping-line rates move, so we fix the figure on the day of booking.
Market prices for international furniture shipping are seldom published. The pages we reviewed say only that the price is “according to volume and destination” and ask you to call, and some list the cost items without figures. What is published in figures is the express couriers’ tariff for parcels, at around SAR 40 per kilogram for company accounts and SAR 120 for individuals, with customs charges quoted at between 0.5% and 15% of the value. That is a parcel tariff, not a furniture one.
What determines the price?
| Factor | How it affects the price |
|---|---|
| Volume after packing | The basis of the charge by land and sea; good dismantling reduces it clearly |
| Destination and delivery city | Distance, crossings and the number of countries the shipment passes through |
| Dedicated or shared | Dedicated costs more and takes less time; shared is the reverse |
| Services at home | Dismantling, packing, wooden crates and a hoist for upper floors |
| Scope of service | To the crossing or port costs less; to the door with clearance and reassembly covers more |
Each item is explained on the pricing factors page.
Is there a cheap international furniture shipping company?
The charges for the road, the sea and the crossing are much the same for everyone, and the difference in your hands lies in the shipping method and in what you take with you. These steps cut the cost without touching the safety of the furniture:
- Share the load: as long as your date can bear a few extra days, a shared load charges you for your own volume only.
- Dismantle everything that comes apart: a dismantled wardrobe takes a third of the space it takes standing.
- Leave what is not worth it: sell the piece whose freight equals the price of one like it there.
- Book early and off-peak: a last-minute booking rules out the shared load.
- Ask for an itemised price: the item left unwritten is the one that appears on arrival.
How long does a furniture shipment take to each destination?
The time that matters to you runs from loading day to delivery day, not driving hours or sailing days. The figures below are door to door for a dedicated truck or a full container, and a shared load waiting to be completed adds days.
| Destination | Method | Approximate time |
|---|---|---|
| UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar | Closed truck | One to 7 days, depending on your city |
| Oman | Closed truck | 3–10 days |
| Jordan | Closed truck | 2–7 days |
| Iraq | Closed truck | 4–8 days |
| Syria and Lebanon | Closed truck through Jordan | 5–12 days |
| Egypt | Truck and ferry | 7–15 days |
| Turkey | Container to Mersin | 15–28 days |
| Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco | Container through the Suez Canal | 20–35 days |
| Europe and the UK | Container | 12–20 days to the Mediterranean, 25–40 days to the north |
| USA | Container | 35–50 days |
What lengthens the time?
- An incomplete inventory: a piece left unlisted stops the truck at the crossing until it is settled.
- Relief paperwork: the owner’s absence or a missing document keeps the container at the port.
- Waiting for consolidation: in a shared load the truck does not leave half empty.
- Transhipment and port congestion: changing vessel at an intermediate port adds days.
Times for the other services are on the transit times page.
Shipping bedrooms, sitting rooms, kitchens and appliances
Each piece in the house has its own preparation, and what suits a wardrobe ruins a fridge. This is a summary of what we do with each kind.
- Bedrooms: the bed, wardrobe and dressing table are dismantled, mirrors are packed singly and the mattress is wrapped in film. A bedroom starts from SAR 740 to Bahrain and from SAR 1,100 to Turkey by sea.
- Sitting rooms and sofas: they do not come apart, so they are protected with blankets and film and loaded on end when space is tight.
- Kitchens: cabinets are taken down unit by unit and numbered by their position on the wall, and the marble top is packed upright.
- Fridges and washing machines: disconnected a day ahead and dried, with the washing-machine drum fixed by its transit bolts.
- Air conditioners: removed by a refrigeration technician after the gas is pumped down into the outdoor unit, with pipe openings sealed.
- Office furniture: desks and cabinets are numbered by department, and files travel in sealed cartons.
Before shipping appliances, check the rating plate on each one. Voltage and frequency differ between the Kingdom and some countries, and an appliance that does not match the destination’s supply needs a transformer or is not worth shipping.
Shipping furniture from Saudi cities
The service is the same in every city; what changes is the nearest crossing or port and the time needed to reach it. Tabuk is the nearest city to Jordan, Dammam is at Bahrain’s door and Jeddah is on the quay.
| City | Nearest exits | What is shipped from it most | More |
|---|---|---|---|
| Riyadh | Batha and Salwa by land; the dry port and the railway to Dammam port | Furniture to the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and Jordan | From Riyadh to the UAE |
| Jeddah | Jeddah Islamic Port, and Halat Ammar by land towards Jordan | Containers to Turkey, Africa and Europe, and trucks to Amman and Doha | From Jeddah to Amman and from Jeddah to Qatar |
| Makkah and Taif | Jeddah port, about 80 km away | Returnees’ furniture to Egypt, Jordan and North Africa | Collection by small vehicles in the hillside districts |
| Madinah and Yanbu | Yanbu port and Jeddah port, and Halat Ammar to the north | Shipments to Jordan, the Levant and Egypt | Large-truck entry is regulated by hours |
| Dammam, Khobar and Jubail | King Fahd Causeway, Khafji and Salwa, and Dammam port | Furniture to Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE | International shipping company in Dammam |
| Qassim and Hail | Through Riyadh to the south, or Haditha and Arar to the north | Furniture to Jordan, Iraq and Kuwait | International shipping company in Qassim |
| Tabuk | Halat Ammar and Durra to Jordan, and Duba to Egypt | Furniture, appliances and air conditioners to Jordan and Egypt | The shortest roads to Amman and Aqaba |
In Makkah and Madinah the traffic authorities set the hours at which large trucks may enter and tighten them in Ramadan and Hajj, so we confirm the hours in force before loading day. The full list of cities is on the cities page, and the two largest cities have their own articles: international shipping company in Riyadh and international shipping companies in Jeddah.
Customs relief for returnees’ furniture: an overview
Most countries distinguish between a trader importing furniture to sell and a family coming back with its home. The second is usually exempted from duty or charged less, on conditions that revolve around three things: the furniture is used and amounts to one household, its owner proves an actual change of residence, and the furniture arrives within a set period. The table shows current practice in the main destinations; these rules change, so we confirm those in force for your case before shipping.
| Destination | Current practice for a returnee’s or mover’s furniture |
|---|---|
| Gulf states | Used personal effects and household furniture are usually exempt for anyone who proves residence in the destination country |
| Jordan | Relief for a Jordanian returning after a year or more abroad, if the furniture arrives within six months of return, with a passport showing a cancelled residence and a tenancy contract or title deed |
| Lebanon | Relief for a Lebanese resident abroad for three years or more, with a list authenticated by the embassy and the owner present |
| Egypt | Used effects and furniture are among the exemption cases, under controls; electrical appliances are scrutinised and assessed |
| Turkey | A residence or work permit and a twelve-month tenancy contract or title deed, with the furniture arriving between two months before entry and six months after it |
| Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria | Special regimes for citizens returning from abroad, with a change-of-residence certificate and a list authenticated by the consulate |
| European Union countries | Transfer-of-residence relief for anyone who lived outside the Union for at least twelve months and owned and used the furniture for six months before moving |
| United Kingdom | Transfer-of-residence relief on an application submitted and approved before the shipment arrives |
The common rule in all these countries is that a new item in its box does not count as household furniture, and that repeats of one type raise questions. Each country’s details are in its article linked from the price tables, and the general procedure is explained on the customs clearance page.
Documents required for shipping furniture
The paperwork for furniture is light, but one missing document stops a whole truck. We ask for copies before loading day and check them against what the destination country requires, so that you do not discover the gap with the furniture at the crossing.
| Document | Who needs it | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Copy of the residence permit or national ID, and the passport | Every sender | Valid on the shipping day |
| The numbered inventory | Every shipment | We prepare it during packing and you sign it |
| Final exit visa | A resident leaving for good | Customs in several countries ask for it as proof of return |
| Proof of housing in the destination country | Anyone claiming relief | A tenancy contract, a title deed or a residence permit |
| Power of attorney for the consignee | Anyone not attending in person | Some countries require the owner to be present |
| Bill of lading and export declaration | Every shipment | We issue them |
The forms and their explanation are on the shipping documents page.
What is not shipped with the furniture
What holds furniture shipments up most is not a dangerous prohibited item but something ordinary forgotten in a drawer: a tin of paint, a small gas cylinder or a medicine without a prescription. We empty the drawers and sort during packing, and we ask you to take these items out before the crew arrives.
| Item | Status | What to do with it |
|---|---|---|
| Gas cylinders, fuel, paints and solvents | Prohibited by every method | Leave them or give them away before travelling |
| Gold, cash and official documents | Not shipped | They travel with you |
| Medicines | Restricted | A personal quantity with its prescription, preferably in your bag |
| Food and perishables | They do not last the journey | Use them up or give them away |
| Weapons, radio equipment and drones | Special permits, or prohibited | Each case is reviewed separately |
| Zamzam water | Not shipped with effects or cargo | The traveller’s dedicated pack at the airport |
The full list is on the prohibited items page.
Shipping the car with the household furniture
Whoever moves a home usually moves a car as well, and it is simpler for one party to handle both. By land the car travels on a car carrier and crosses the same border post, and shipping it to the UAE starts from SAR 1,100. By sea it goes in with the furniture in a 40ft container, secured with wheel straps and timber chocks and separated from the furniture by a barrier, or it is shipped alone on roll-on/roll-off vessels; shipping a saloon car by sea starts from SAR 2,800.
Every country has its own conditions for used cars: a maximum age, technical conformity and the side of the steering wheel. So we check your car against your country’s conditions before booking space for it. The methods are explained on the car shipping page, and the general guide is in the article car shipping from Saudi Arabia.
Air freight from Saudi Arabia for urgent pieces and personal effects

A plane does not move a home, but it solves the problem of the first weeks. The container to Europe arrives after a month or more, and in the meantime the family needs its clothes, its laptop, its papers and the child’s cot. So the move is split in two: personal effects and urgent pieces by air, and the rest of the furniture by land or sea. The air shipment leaves from King Khalid Airport in Riyadh, King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah or King Fahd Airport in Dammam, and is delivered to the door in one to 3 days in the Gulf and 3 to 6 days in Europe.
The charge is by the chargeable kilogram, which is the greater of the actual weight and the volumetric weight. The kilogram starts from SAR 14 to the Gulf states, from SAR 23 to Europe and from SAR 26 to the UK, and an express document envelope from SAR 83. That is why air does not suit a wardrobe or a sofa: charged by volume, they cost more than they are worth.
- Suits air: suitcases of clothes, computers, books and papers, a dismantled cot, and a small valuable piece.
- Does not suit it: large furniture and heavy appliances.
- Does not fly: loose batteries, aerosols, perfume in quantity and flammable liquids.
- Packing: the smallest carton that will do, because every empty centimetre is charged as weight.
Work out the chargeable weight with the volumetric weight calculator; details of the service are on the air freight page.
Insuring the furniture and tracking the shipment
Good packing reduces the chance of damage without removing it, since a road accident or a storm at sea is outside any carrier’s hands. Insurance covers that remainder. It is calculated as a percentage of the value declared on the inventory and covers loss and damage in transit under the policy’s terms and exclusions. A claim needs an inventory showing the value of the costly pieces, photos taken before packing, and a written remark on the delivery note if damage is found.
This is separate from our responsibility for our own work. What happens at the hands of our crew during dismantling, packing and loading is ours to bear, and its limits are written in the booking confirmation. Follow-up is by a reference number and messages at the key milestones: the truck leaving, the border crossed or the vessel sailing, arrival at the port, clearance completed and the delivery appointment. More on the cargo insurance and shipment tracking pages.
Storing the furniture before shipping or after arrival
The dates of an international move seldom line up. You may hand back your home in the Kingdom before your new one is ready. In such cases the furniture stays with us, packed and numbered with its inventory, until you ask for it to be shipped. Storage in our Jeddah warehouse starts from SAR 185 a month for a small space and from SAR 600 for the furniture of a flat.
If the shipment arrives before you do, our partner in the destination country stores it until you take delivery, at a price set on request. Storage at the port itself is the dearest option, so it is better to time the shipment to your move-in date. The service is on the storage page, and details of the warehouse are in the article furniture storage company in Jeddah.
Delivery and reassembly in the destination country
Door-to-door service means you do not go to a port or wait at a border post. After clearance the truck reaches your address at an agreed time, and the pieces are unloaded and placed in their rooms by their numbers. What was dismantled is then reassembled: beds, wardrobes and tables. The pieces are counted against the inventory in front of you before you sign.
Three things are settled before shipping, not on arrival day: whether a large truck can reach your street or a smaller vehicle is needed, whether the building has a lift that takes the pieces or a hoist is needed, and whether reassembly and removal of packing waste are part of the agreement. The service is explained on the door to door page.
Steps for shipping furniture from Saudi Arabia abroad
- First contact: you give your city, the destination country and city, and your approximate travel date.
- Survey: a visit, a video call or photos, from which we establish the volume and what needs special care.
- Price and method: you receive an itemised price with the proposed method and the expected time.
- Document check: we match your papers against what the destination country requires and tell you what is missing.
- Packing day: dismantling, packing, numbering and an inventory you sign, then loading.
- The journey: a truck to the crossing, or a container to the port, with a message at each milestone.
- Clearance: export from the Kingdom, then import in the destination country, in your presence or by your power of attorney where required.
- Delivery: unloading, reassembly and a count against the list, then signing the delivery note.
Tips before packing day
- Sort before we come: what is shipped, what travels with you and what is sold. Three clear groups shorten the working day.
- Photograph what is valuable: from more than one angle, with its serial number if it is an appliance.
- Prepare a first-week bag: clothes, medicines, papers and chargers, and keep it out of the shipment.
- Keep a copy of the list with you: on paper and on your phone, as you will be asked for it in more than one place.
How do you choose an international furniture shipping company?
Anyone who owns a truck can write “international moving” on an advert. What separates one carrier from another is not the advert but what it does before you pay and what it puts in writing. These are signs for reading the offer in front of you.
| What to look at | A reassuring sign | A warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| Legal standing | A commercial registration and a known address | A mobile number and a social media account only |
| Pricing | After a survey, with itemised lines | A figure given over the phone before anything is seen |
| Inventory | Numbered, signed, with a copy for you | Loading without a sheet of paper |
| Customs | Asks about your status and papers in the destination country | Promises guaranteed relief |
| The other end | A partner who receives, clears and reassembles | Leaves collection from the port to you |
| Scope of service | Written in the booking confirmation | Verbal promises |
Common mistakes in international furniture shipping
- Asking for a price with the words “household furniture” and no list or photos, then being surprised by the difference on loading day.
- Sealing cartons before the crew arrives without writing their contents, so that all of them are opened at customs.
- Shipping new appliances in their boxes among used furniture and claiming relief on them.
- Declaring a token value for the furniture to reduce the premium, then claiming full compensation.
- Leaving savings, passports or jewellery in the drawer of a shipped wardrobe.
- Booking the flight before loading day is fixed, so that the home is packed in a rush.
- Not measuring the entrance of the new home, so that the cabinet stops at the door.
Why Home Safe for shipping your furniture?
Because moving a home to another country is entrusted to someone who carries the whole chain. We survey before we price, we put our commitments in writing, and we tell you plainly what is not ours to decide: customs in your country, the vessel’s schedule and the state of the crossing. What is ours we do well: dismantling in which no screw is lost and packing that withstands the road.

Frequently asked questions about international furniture shipping from Saudi Arabia
How much does international furniture shipping from Saudi Arabia cost?
The price follows the country and the volume. By land, a bedroom starts from SAR 740 to Bahrain, from SAR 920 to Kuwait, from SAR 1,380 to the UAE and from SAR 1,650 to Jordan and Egypt. By sea, a cubic metre in a shared container starts from SAR 415 to Turkey, Libya, Tunisia and Algeria, and a 20ft container from SAR 4,600. The furniture of a whole home to Europe in a dedicated container starts from SAR 11,000. Send your list to 0552803439.
How long does a furniture shipment take to arrive?
To the Gulf states, one to 10 days depending on your city and the country; to Jordan, two to 7 days; to Syria and Lebanon, 5 to 12 days; to Egypt by truck and ferry, 7 to 15 days. A sea container takes 15 to 28 days to Turkey, 20 to 35 days to North Africa and 25 to 40 days to northern Europe. All of these are door to door.
Do you dismantle the furniture and reassemble it in the destination country?
Dismantling and packing in your home are done by our crew with its own tools and materials. Reassembly in the destination country is done by our partner’s crew there and covers what we took apart: beds, wardrobes and tables. The booking confirmation states whether the service ends at the building entrance or includes carrying upstairs and reassembly.
Which is best for my furniture: land, sea or air?
The destination decides. Whatever has a road link with the Kingdom, such as the Gulf, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Iraq, goes in a closed truck because it is quicker and handled less. Whatever lies beyond the sea, such as Turkey, North Africa, Europe and America, goes in a container. Air is for an urgent piece or suitcases, not for a whole home.
Should I book a full container or share one?
Work it out by volume. A 20ft container holds in practice between 25 and 28 cubic metres of packed furniture, which is the furniture of a two-to-three-bedroom flat. If you have less than half of that, sharing by the cubic metre is cheaper. If you are close to two thirds, the dedicated container is worth it: it is sealed in front of you and waits for nobody else’s shipment.
Is my used furniture exempt from customs duty in my country?
Many countries exempt the furniture of a returnee or someone moving residence when it is used and amounts to one household, but each has its own conditions: a period of prior residence abroad, a time limit after arrival, papers proving the change of residence, and the owner being present. These conditions change. So we check your case against the practice in force in your country before loading.
What papers are needed to ship household furniture?
On the Saudi side: a copy of the residence permit or ID, the passport, an inventory of pieces and cartons, and the final exit visa for anyone leaving for good. For the destination country: proof of your residence or return, such as a tenancy contract or a residence permit. We issue the bill of lading and the export declaration ourselves.
Do you ship a single bedroom or just a few pieces?
Yes, and that is what the shared load is for. The bedroom is dismantled and packed and takes its place among other shipments in a truck or a container, and you pay for its volume. It starts from SAR 740 to Bahrain, from SAR 1,100 to Turkey by sea and from SAR 1,650 to Jordan, Egypt and Libya.
How are glass, marble and screens protected?
They are handled one by one. A mirror, a glass panel or a marble top is wrapped in foam, then placed between two boards or inside a wooden frame, and it travels standing on its edge rather than flat. A screen goes back into its original box if you still have it; otherwise a foam-lined crate is made for it.
Is insuring the furniture necessary?
We recommend it, especially by sea where the voyage lasts weeks. It is calculated as a percentage of the value you declare on the inventory and covers loss and damage in transit under the terms of the policy. The declared value is the ceiling of any compensation, so make it realistic.
Can the furniture be stored if my new home is not ready?
Yes. We store it in the Kingdom before shipping if you leave before your address is settled; a small space starts from SAR 185 a month and the furniture of a flat from SAR 600 in our Jeddah warehouse. If the shipment arrives before you do, storage in the destination country is arranged by our partner there and priced on request.
Can I ship my car together with the furniture?
By sea, yes: a 40ft container takes a car together with the furniture of a flat, with the car secured by straps and chocks and separated from the furniture. By land, the car travels on a separate car carrier and arrives within the same days.
Is there really a cheap international furniture shipping company?
Real savings come from the shipping method, not from promises. A shared load, dismantling everything that comes apart, leaving behind what is not worth the journey and booking outside the peak weeks bring the bill down noticeably. A low figure that mentions neither clearance nor delivery is completed on arrival.
Which Saudi cities do you collect furniture from?
From every region of the Kingdom. In the centre: Riyadh, Al-Kharj, Qassim and Hail. In the west: Jeddah, Makkah, Taif, Madinah, Yanbu and Tabuk. In the east: Dammam, Khobar, Jubail and Al-Ahsa. In the south: Abha, Khamis Mushait and Jazan. The dismantling and packing crew comes to the house, then the truck heads for the land crossing or the port your destination calls for.
How far ahead of my travel date should I book?
For land freight, one to two weeks before loading day is enough in ordinary periods. For sea freight, three weeks to a month, because the container and the sailing are booked before loading. At the end of the school year and before Ramadan and the two Eids demand is heavy, so start earlier.
