Who ships from Jeddah to Georgia, and what do they ship?
Georgia has become a familiar summer destination for Saudi families, and tourism has been followed by flat ownership in Batumi and Tbilisi, university study and small trade between the two countries. So the people who ask for this line are not alike. Some send two suitcases ahead of their holiday, and others move a whole household or supply goods to a shop there. This is what we see in requests and what we suggest for each case:
| Shipper | What they usually send | The method we suggest |
|---|---|---|
| Owner of a flat in Batumi or Tbilisi | Bedrooms, an Arabic majlis, soft furnishings and kitchenware | A 20ft container, or shared space for a small volume |
| A family spending two or three months of summer | Extra suitcases, a pushchair and long-stay supplies | Air freight ahead of the travel date |
| A student at a Tbilisi university | Books, winter clothes, a computer and items for the lodging | An air parcel or consolidated sea cartons |
| A resident moving to Georgia for good | All the furniture and appliances of the home | A 40ft container with a review of the exemption conditions |
| Owner of an Arabic restaurant or shop there | Dates, coffee, spices, crockery and incense | A shared container on a regular schedule |
| Trader and exporter | Plastics, building materials and assorted goods | A full container to Poti |
The shipping route from Jeddah to Georgia and its duration
No container ship sails from Jeddah straight to the Georgian coast. The container goes up the Red Sea and through the Suez Canal, then is discharged at an intermediate port on the Mediterranean or in Istanbul, where it is moved to a small feeder vessel that passes the Bosphorus and crosses the Black Sea eastwards to Poti or Batumi. This change is what makes the time longer than on direct lines. The figures below are the usual ones for a full container, and we confirm the actual sailing schedule at booking:
| Stage | What happens in it | Usual time |
|---|---|---|
| Loading in Jeddah | Dismantling, packing and numbering, then sealing the container in front of its owner | One day, two for a large home |
| Jeddah Islamic Port | Export declaration, entry to the yard and waiting for the vessel to depart | 3–7 days |
| From Jeddah to the intermediate port | The Red Sea, then the Suez Canal, then the eastern Mediterranean | 7–12 days |
| The change, then the Black Sea | Waiting for the feeder vessel, passing the Bosphorus and sailing east | 8–14 days |
| Clearance in Georgia | Customs declaration, channel selection and inspection if required | 3–6 working days |
| From the port to the consignee | A truck or train from Poti to the city | 1–2 days |
The time differs with the method: shared space waits for the container to fill in the consolidation warehouse, and an air parcel goes through none of this:
| Method | From where to where | Door-to-door time | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full container | Jeddah port → intermediate port → Poti | 30–45 days | A whole home or wholesale goods |
| Space in a shared container | Consolidated in Jeddah, then sails with other cargo | 40–55 days | Cartons and one or two rooms |
| A car inside a container | Jeddah port → Poti | 30–45 days | One car or two |
| Air | King Abdulaziz Airport → Tbilisi airport | 3–6 days | Parcels, documents and urgent luggage |
What lengthens the time?
- The feeder vessel’s date: Black Sea sailings to Poti are less frequent than Mediterranean ones, and whoever misses one waits for the next.
- An incomplete list: Georgian customs ask for a description and a value for every item, and a summary list sends the shipment to detailed inspection.
- The season: before summer, shippers to Batumi and Tbilisi multiply, so bookings tighten on vessels and aircraft alike.
Times for other destinations are on the transit times page.
Shipping prices from Jeddah to Georgia
We separate air and sea when pricing. An air parcel has a fixed starting price that we print here, because there are direct flights between Jeddah and Tbilisi and the rate is known. A container’s rate, however, is the sum of two parts: from Jeddah to the intermediate port, then the feeder vessel into the Black Sea, and the second part changes from one sailing to the next. So we do not print a container figure that may not hold on your shipping day, and we give you a price worked out on your volume and your date:
| Shipment | Method | Price starts from |
|---|---|---|
| Document envelope up to one kilogram | Express air to Tbilisi | SAR 83 |
| Parcel up to 5 kg | Air | SAR 110 |
| Suitcases and cartons above 5 kg | Air, per kilogram | Set on request |
| Cubic metre | Shared container to Poti | Set on request |
| 20ft container | Sea from Jeddah Islamic Port | Set on request |
| 40ft container | Sea from Jeddah Islamic Port | Set on request |
| Car | Inside a container | Set on request |
| Collection in Jeddah, and clearance and delivery in Georgia | By district and city | Set on request |
Market prices for this line are rarely published. What we found advertised concerns express shipping from Saudi Arabia to Georgia: a document envelope at the equivalent of about SAR 225 before tax, and an express parcel at the equivalent of about SAR 400 before tax. Nobody publishes sea rates for this line; they are given shipment by shipment. The insurance premium in circulation is between 0.5% and 2% of the shipment’s value depending on its type. When you compare two offers, ask: does the figure include the feeder vessel to Poti and the handling charges there, or does it end at the intermediate port?
| Factor | Its effect on the amount |
|---|---|
| Volume in cubic metres | The basis of the sea calculation. Work it out with the CBM calculator before you call |
| Actual and volumetric weight | The basis of the air calculation; the greater of the two is taken |
| Port of arrival | More sailings call at Poti, while Batumi may save its residents the truck fare |
| The Georgian city | Tbilisi is further from the port than Kutaisi and Batumi |
| Scope of service | To the quay, or to inside the flat after clearance |
How do you cut the cost?
- Gather what you want to send into one sea shipment, since every separate shipment has its own minimum and clearance fees.
- Send by air only what you need in your first weeks, and leave the furniture and books to the container.
- Dismantle the large pieces before measuring them; a dismantled bed takes a small part of its standing volume.
- Book three weeks or more before the summer season, as sea and air rates rise with the holiday rush.
What the bill does and does not include is on the pricing factors page, and for container figures on the lines we publish, see the article on container shipping prices from Jeddah.
Why does the Jeddah – Georgia line matter, and what is the shipping company’s role in it?
Exchange between the Kingdom and Georgia is growing with tourism and property investment. Georgia is a corridor between Europe and Central Asia, Jeddah is the Kingdom’s gateway on the Red Sea, and it is natural for individuals’ belongings and traders’ goods to move between them. But this is not a line booked at the press of a button: it passes through an intermediate port, a different customs system and another language. This is where the shipping company’s work shows:
- Choosing the mode: we decide with you whether the shipment goes by container or by aircraft according to its weight and deadline, and we do not sell you the dearer one.
- Arranging the route: we book with a shipping line that issues one bill of lading from Jeddah to Poti, so you do not have to follow two vessels.
- Customs at both ends: the export declaration in Jeddah, and a broker in Georgia who lodges the declaration and attends the inspection.
Jeddah as the starting point: the port and the airport inside the city
A shipper from Jeddah pays for no intercity haulage before the sea. Jeddah Islamic Port is on the city’s western edge, King Abdulaziz Airport is in its north, and the consolidation warehouse lies between them. This cuts a day or two from the journey and removes reloading. There are matters in the city that we plan for on the loading day:
- The container at the door: loading and sealing take place outside your home while you watch, and the box is usually through the port gate that same day.
- Truck movement: large trucks are barred from some main roads at peak hours, so we set the time the container stands by what is allowed that day.
- Humidity: the coastal air is humid, and the Black Sea voyage is cold in winter. So we dry fabrics and wood before wrapping and place absorbent bags inside the container.
- Umrah pilgrims’ luggage: if you have finished your Umrah with more purchases than you can carry, we collect them from your hotel in Jeddah or Makkah and send them by air.
Our services in the city for all destinations are in the article on international shipping companies in Jeddah.
Sea freight from Jeddah to the Black Sea ports of Poti and Batumi

Georgia has two ports that receive containers, both on the eastern shore of the Black Sea. Poti is the larger in container traffic, has a railway linking the quay to Tbilisi, and is called at closely spaced intervals by feeder vessels coming from Turkish ports. Batumi is nearer the Turkish border and has a container terminal alongside its ferry and dry-cargo berths. Your shipment is loaded into a 20ft or 40ft container from Jeddah Islamic Port and leaves on one bill of lading as far as the Georgian port.
There is usually no direct sailing between the Saudi and Georgian ports, so shipping lines move the container between two vessels at an intermediate port. That does not mean your furniture is opened or unloaded: the container is transferred sealed by crane from one vessel to the other and its seal number does not change. We choose the port according to the consignee’s city:
| Port of arrival | What distinguishes it | Whom it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Poti | The largest container port, a railway from the quay and more feeder sailings | Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Rustavi and the centre and east of the country |
| Batumi | A container terminal inside the city, near the Turkish border | Batumi, Kobuleti and the rest of the Adjara region |
From the port the shipment continues inland by truck, or by train for heavy goods bound for the capital. The service is described on the sea freight page, what happens inside Jeddah port is in the article on international sea freight from Jeddah, and the list of ports is on the ports and gateways page.
A full container or space in a shared container?
On a line with a change of vessel this decision matters more than elsewhere. A private container stays closed from your home in Jeddah to Georgian customs. Consolidated cargo, by contrast, is unloaded in a warehouse on arrival to be sorted between its owners, and may be sorted once before that at the transhipment port. So if your shipment holds a lot of glass or valuable pieces, a private container is the better choice even if it is not full.
| Item | Full container | Shared space |
|---|---|---|
| Place of loading | In front of your home or warehouse | The consolidation warehouse after we collect from you |
| Number of handlings | Only the container is lifted; the contents are not touched | The cartons are loaded and unloaded more than once |
| Usual time | 30–45 days | 40–55 days |
| Suitable volume | 15 cubic metres and above | From one metre to 15 metres |
| Price | Set on request per container | Set on request per cubic metre |
To choose between the two sizes: the short box, 20ft, has an inside volume of about 28 cubic metres and takes the contents of a small flat. The long one, 40ft, has about 58 cubic metres and is for someone moving a villa or adding a car to the furniture. The exact dimensions are on the container sizes page.
Shipping household goods and personal effects from Jeddah to Georgia

Most of what moves on this line is household goods: an owner who has bought a sea-view flat in Batumi and wants it with an Arabic majlis and the kitchenware he is used to, a family that has decided to live in Tbilisi, or an employee whose job has been transferred. The success of this shipment depends on one paper before anything else, the contents list. Georgian customs read the list line by line, ask for a value for every item, and open the cartons if they find the list summarised.
- Numbering: every carton takes a number, and against the number we write what is inside in detail: the count and kind of pieces, not “clothes” or “kitchen items”.
- Value: a used item is valued at its present price, not its purchase price, and a new one by its invoice. We help you fill in the column so it is neither inflated nor understated.
- Appliances: they are written with brand and model, noting that they are used if they are.
- Packing: blankets for wood, double-wall cartons for crockery, wooden crates for mirrors and marble, then lashing with straps to the container’s rings.
- Reviewing the import conditions: before sending the crew we ask about your status in Georgia, to know whether your belongings enter exempt or are taxed.
Small personal effects, such as cartons of clothes, books, children’s toys and hobby equipment, do not need a container. They go as space in a shared container if they are not urgent, or by air if you want them within a week. Electricity in Georgia is 220 volts at 50 hertz with European two-round-pin sockets, so most of your appliances work there with a plug adapter alone. The service is explained on the furniture shipping page.
Sound packing for a shipment that changes vessel
Your shipment to Georgia is lifted by crane in Jeddah, then at the intermediate port, then in Poti, and spends weeks between the heat of the Red Sea and the cold of the Black Sea. That temperature difference forms water droplets on the inside walls of the container, and they damage wood and fabric more than knocks do. So we choose the packing material by the piece and leave it room to breathe:
| Piece | Packing material | How it is placed in the container |
|---|---|---|
| Dismantled wardrobes and beds | A moving blanket, then a tight plastic wrap | Panels standing on edge and tied together |
| Sofas and mattresses | A breathable fabric cover, then an outer bag | On top of the hard pieces, with no weight on them |
| Glass, mirrors and marble | Foam and a made-to-measure wooden crate | Upright and braced against the side wall |
| Crockery and crystal | Paper for each piece, then bubble wrap, in a double-wall carton | At the top, marked “fragile” |
| Books and clothes | Small cartons for books and vacuum bags for clothes | Filling the gaps between the large pieces |
We write on every carton its number, the consignee’s name in Latin letters and the arrival city, and we measure the shipment’s weight and volume after packing because they are the basis of the calculation. The materials are explained in the packing guide, and the ways of securing cargo inside the container on the packing and lashing page.
Shipping parcels and suitcases from Jeddah to Georgia
A parcel is the easiest thing to send on this line, as there are direct flights between Jeddah and Tbilisi. We collect it from your home or office, weigh and measure it in front of you, and give you the waybill number the same day. These are the options by what is in the parcel:
| What is in the parcel | Method | Time | Starts from |
|---|---|---|---|
| Powers of attorney, contracts and certificates | Express air | 3–5 days | SAR 83 |
| A gift or clothes up to 5 kg | Air | 3–6 days | SAR 110 |
| A suitcase or carton above 5 kg | Air, per kilogram | 3–6 days | Set on request |
| Many cartons with no urgency | Consolidated sea | 40–55 days | Set on request |
- Consignee details: the name as in the passport or Georgian ID in Latin letters, the address, and a Georgian mobile number beginning with +995.
- Charges: it is commonly reported that a parcel of low value and weight is exempt for individuals within limits set by Georgian law, and anything above them is taxed and paid by the consignee. We confirm the limit in force before sending.
- Medicines: in a personal-use quantity, and we do not accept controlled ones in parcels.
The service details are on the parcel shipping page.
Shipping commercial goods from Jeddah to Georgia
The Georgian market is small but open, and most items enter it at a zero customs duty and bear value added tax only. That makes the freight cost itself the largest factor in the price of your goods there. So with a trader we start by working out the unit cost to the buyer’s warehouse, not the bare sea rate. The goods enter in the name of an importer registered in Georgia with a tax number.
- Small quantities: pallets or cartons in a shared container, which suit shops selling Arabic products and restaurants.
- The full container: we load it at your factory or warehouse in Jeddah, and it is sealed and leaves for the port the same day.
- Dates and foodstuffs: with a health certificate, a certificate of origin and a clear label, and plant products with a phytosanitary certificate.
We gather your goods from several suppliers in our warehouse until the container is complete, and store them temporarily if one of them is late. The service is explained on the commercial shipping page.
Car shipping from Jeddah to Georgia
Clearing cars is a well-known trade in Georgia, and its yards in Rustavi and Poti receive cars from several continents. But the system there has changed, so that age and engine capacity now decide what you pay. In current practice the excise tax is charged on every cubic centimetre of the engine, rises steeply for a car older than six years, is multiplied for a right-hand-drive car, and the capacity tax is not charged on an electric car. Value added tax is added. So we work out the amount with you on the Georgian Revenue Service calculator before you book.
- 20ft container: one car, its wheels lashed with straps and braced with wooden chocks.
- 40ft container: two cars, or a car with the household furniture if the owner is relocating.
- Roll-on roll-off vessels (RoRo): they are not regular from Jeddah to the Georgian coast, and we ask what is available on request.
- Papers: the registration in the shipper’s name or a notarised authorisation, the passport, the export certificate from the traffic department, and a letter from the finance provider if the car is under finance.
The price is set on request by the size of the car and the container. The guide to preparing the car is on the car shipping guide page, container shipping on the container car shipping page, and all destinations in the article on car shipping from Saudi Arabia.
Georgian customs: the duties and taxes you may face
The Georgian customs system is simple in structure and strict on declaration. The tariff has only three bands, and most items fall in the zero band. But anything not mentioned in the declaration is treated as undeclared and fined. A shipment passes through a selection system: one channel in which it is released after the papers are reviewed, and one in which it is opened and inspected. This is a summary of current practice, and we check what is in force before every shipment:
| Item | Current practice in Georgia |
|---|---|
| Customs duty | Three bands: zero, 5% and 12%, the top band for items such as foodstuffs, clothing and building materials |
| Value added tax | 18% on the value of the goods with freight, insurance and duty where it applies |
| Excise tax | On cars, tobacco, fuel and specified items |
| Belongings of someone moving for permanent residence | Exempt if not for trade and the owner proves residence with a document from the competent authority |
| A returning Georgian citizen | A one-time exemption after more than six months away, within a set value |
| Belongings with no exemption | Value added tax on their declared value |
The tax and fees are paid by the consignee directly to the Georgian treasury and are not part of the freight charge. We give you an estimate of them before sailing so that they are in your budget from the start.
Customs procedures and the papers required
In Jeddah the procedure is short: an export declaration that we prepare, a copy of your ID or residence permit, and the contents list. The larger job is in Georgia, where the broker lodges the declaration in the consignee’s name. Send the papers as photos on WhatsApp on the booking day, and we review them and forward copies to the broker while the container is still at sea:
| Shipment | Papers required |
|---|---|
| Household goods and personal effects | A copy of the passport, a detailed list with values, a notarised power of attorney for the broker, proof of residence for anyone claiming the exemption, and the Georgian tax number if requested |
| Commercial goods | Invoice and packing list from the seller, origin certificate, bill of lading, plus the Georgian importer’s registration details |
| Foodstuffs and plant products | A health certificate or a phytosanitary certificate, together with the above |
| Car | The registration, the export certificate, the owner’s passport, and an invoice or a valuation |
| Personal parcel | Sender’s ID, what the parcel holds and what it is worth, and how to reach the consignee: name, address, mobile |
Some items need an export licence from their authority in the Kingdom before they leave, and we tell you so when reviewing the list. The clearance steps are on the customs clearance page, and sample papers on the shipping documents page.
What cannot be shipped to Georgia or needs a permit
Reviewing the list before packing protects the whole shipment, because one offending item stops the container until its case is decided. These are the items we always ask about:
| Item | Its status in current practice |
|---|---|
| Narcotics and psychotropic substances | Prohibited, and bringing them in is a crime |
| Weapons, ammunition and explosives | Prohibited without a permit from the competent Georgian authority |
| Controlled medicines | With a translated prescription and a limited treatment quantity, and we do not accept them in shipments |
| Ordinary medicines | In a personal-use quantity; more needs a medical report |
| Plants, seeds and seedlings | With a phytosanitary certificate |
| Meat, dairy and fresh foodstuffs | Restricted, and not accepted in household goods or parcels |
| Drones | Declared and registered with Georgian civil aviation |
| Zamzam water | Not shipped as cargo from the Kingdom; the traveller carries it in its dedicated pack |
| Cash, gold and original documents | They stay with their owner and are not put in the container |
The general list is on the prohibited items page. When unsure about something, a photo sent to us ahead of packing settles it.
Delivering shipments from Jeddah in Tbilisi, Batumi and Kutaisi

After release, the shipment leaves the port or the airport for the consignee’s address. Georgia is a small country, the farthest of its major cities from the coast is the capital, and the road to it crosses the country from west to east in a matter of hours. We deliver to the door in the three largest cities, and elsewhere by prior arrangement:
| City | How the shipment reaches it | Delivery notes |
|---|---|---|
| Tbilisi | From Poti by road, about 310 km, or by train, and by air straight to its airport | The old buildings in its centre stand on narrow streets, so we use a small vehicle for the last stretch |
| Batumi | From the port of Batumi itself, or from Poti, about 70 km | The seafront towers have service lifts that are booked with the management |
| Kutaisi | From Poti, about 100 km | The nearest major city to the port, with the quickest delivery |
| Rustavi | With the Tbilisi shipments | Home to the car yards and the clearance zone |
Write the address in Latin letters: the city, then the street and building number, then the floor and flat, with a Georgian mobile number the consignee answers. The driver calls before arriving, and the number of many old buildings cannot be seen from the street. If the delivery is to a building without a lift, state the floor at booking so that we send enough workers.
Transit through Georgia to Armenia and Azerbaijan
Armenia is a landlocked country, and its shortest routes to the sea pass through the port of Poti. Azerbaijan receives part of its imports through the same corridor by train or truck. So if your shipment is for a consignee in Yerevan or Baku, it can sail from Jeddah to Poti and then cross Georgia sealed to the border of the destination country, to be cleared there and not in Georgia. We arrange this route on request, and for it we need the details of the consignee and his broker in the destination country before booking.
Air freight from Jeddah to Georgia

The aircraft cuts the six weeks to days. There are direct flights of a few hours between King Abdulaziz Airport and Tbilisi airport, and when no space is available on them the shipment travels through a transit airport in the region. The time we promise, 3 to 6 days, covers acceptance and security screening in Jeddah, then clearance at Tbilisi airport, then delivery. Anything bound for Batumi or Kutaisi continues by road from the capital.
- What air suits: parcels, the suitcases of summer travellers and students, documents, samples, spare parts, and the belongings you need on first arrival.
- The calculation: an aircraft charges for space as well as heaviness. We multiply the carton’s three dimensions in centimetres and divide the result by 6000; if that number exceeds the scale weight, it is the one charged. Try your figures in the volumetric weight calculator.
- Starting prices: SAR 83 for a document envelope and SAR 110 for a parcel up to 5 kg; anything above that is set on request per kilogram.
- Delivery in Tbilisi: at the airport for those who clear by themselves, or to the door through our broker.
- Flight restrictions: no flammable liquids, aerosols or perfumes, and a lithium battery travels only inside its device.
For how the service works, see the air freight page; for what we do at the airport itself, see the article on the air freight office in Jeddah.
Air or sea? And is there land freight to Georgia?
The gap between the two methods is wider on this line than on others: the sea here takes six weeks and the air less than one. So many of our customers split their shipment: what is needed in the first month flies, and the rest sails. This comparison helps you divide it:
| Point of comparison | Air | Sea |
|---|---|---|
| Time to the door | 3–6 days | 30–55 days |
| Unit of calculation | The kilogram | The cubic metre or the container |
| Suits | Roughly under 100 kg, and anything with a deadline | Furniture, cars and wholesale goods |
| Exit point from Jeddah | King Abdulaziz Airport | Jeddah Islamic Port |
| Point of arrival | Tbilisi airport | Poti or Batumi |
As for trucks, we do not run them from Jeddah to Georgia. The land route crosses more than one country, each with transit procedures that change. The exception is for the container to be discharged at a Turkish port and continue by truck through the Sarpi crossing to Batumi, which we offer you when it is faster than the Black Sea vessel. Our land freight to the Gulf states and Jordan is explained on the land freight page, and the general comparison on the shipping methods comparison page.
Collection from Jeddah’s districts and nearby towns
The crew comes to your address, and you do not need to take anything to a warehouse. We cover Jeddah’s districts from Obhur Al-Shamaliyah to Al-Khumrah, and the towns served by Jeddah port. The way we collect differs with the type of building and the distance:
| Place of collection | Distance | How we collect |
|---|---|---|
| Obhur, Al-Basateen, Al-Mohammadiyah and Al-Naeem | North Jeddah | Villas and compounds, with the container or truck standing at the entrance |
| Al-Rawdah, Al-Khalidiyah, Al-Zahra and Al-Andalus | Central Jeddah | Blocks and towers, where we arrange the lift and the parking with the building management |
| Al-Balad, Al-Kandarah and Al-Hindawiyah | South Jeddah and its old centre | A small vehicle for the lanes, then loading at a nearby point |
| Makkah | About 80 km | By an appointment that respects truck entry hours |
| Taif | About 170 km | The shipment comes down to Jeddah a day before loading |
If you hand over your home before your flat there is ready, we store your furniture packed until the sailing date, on the terms set out on the storage page. Coverage towns are on the service cities page, and the full service from your home to the consignee’s home is explained on the door-to-door shipping page.
The stages of shipping from Jeddah to Georgia, step by step
- The request: you send photos of the items or their list, the name of your district in Jeddah and the consignee’s city in Georgia.
- Reviewing your status there: permanent resident, property owner, visitor or importer, because the answer decides the tax and the papers.
- Proposal and price: a container, shared space or air, the port of arrival, and a price in detailed items.
- Booking: we fix the loading day to the vessel’s date and receive photos of the passport, the list and the power of attorney.
- Loading: dismantling, packing and numbering, weighing and measuring, then sealing the container and giving you the seal number.
- Export: the export declaration at Jeddah Islamic Port or King Abdulaziz Airport, and the issue of the bill of lading.
- The voyage: we tell you when the first vessel sails, then when the container is loaded on the feeder vessel, then when it arrives.
- Clearance and delivery: the broker lodges the declaration, what is due is paid, then the shipment reaches the door and is checked against the list.
Following the shipment during the voyage, and insuring it
A container on this line disappears from the tracking screen for days at the transhipment port, which worries anyone who does not know why. So we do not stop at giving you the number; we explain what each status you see means:
- The container number: entered on the shipping line’s website, it shows the vessel’s name, the last port recorded and the expected date.
- At the transhipment port: the container shows as “discharged” until it is loaded on the feeder vessel, which is normal and not a stoppage.
- The air shipment: the waybill number is followed on the airline’s website. The explanation is on the track your shipment page.
- If it is delayed: we ask the line’s agent and tell you the reason and the new date, and we keep the correspondence as a record for you.
- Insurance: optional, its premium a percentage of the declared value, and it must be issued before sailing. The terms are on the cargo insurance page.
- On delivery: any breakage or shortage is written on the delivery note and photographed before signing, since a claim with no written remark is weak.
Shipping from Georgia to Jeddah
The reverse direction is smaller in volume but in demand: the belongings of a returning resident, a holidaymaker’s purchases, and the goods of a trader importing honey, nuts or mineral water. We collect from Tbilisi, Batumi and Kutaisi, and the container sails from Poti on the same route reversed to Jeddah Islamic Port, where it is cleared and reaches your home inside the city.
- Saudi customs: a duty according to the item and value added tax of 15% on commercial goods.
- Foodstuffs: subject to the requirements of the Saudi Food and Drug Authority and an Arabic label.
- Alcoholic drinks: completely banned from entering the Kingdom, and not accepted even as a gift.
Tips before shipping: planning ahead and coordinating with the shipping company
- Start two months before your date: list the items, ask for the price and fix the loading to a specific vessel, because the line takes six weeks and cannot be run in the final week.
- Give us the approximate weight, the dimensions and the value of the shipment from the first call, as an error in them changes both the price and the customs declaration.
- Write the contents list in English item by item; it is the paper on which the Georgian officer bases his decision.
- Ask about your Georgian tax number before the shipment arrives, so the container does not wait on the quay for it.
- Work out your car’s age and engine capacity before you think of shipping it, as its tax there may exceed its value.
- Leave a week’s margin after the expected date before you tie any commitment to the furniture’s arrival.
How do you choose a shipping company from Jeddah to Georgia?
Few offices in Jeddah ship to Georgia regularly, and some accept the order and then look for someone to carry it out. The test is not the wording of the advert or the number of reviews, which are easy to dress up. The test is what the office says when you ask about the details of this particular line. These are signs that tell the two apart:
| What you ask about | A reassuring answer | An answer that calls for caution |
|---|---|---|
| The vessel’s route | Names the transhipment port and the feeder vessel to Poti | Says the ship is direct and arrives in two weeks |
| The time | A door-to-door time with a clear margin | A firm date with no margin |
| Georgian customs | Asks about your status there and explains the tax | Promises full exemption before knowing your case |
| The price | Written items covering what comes after the intermediate port | A lump sum, then charges that appear on arrival |
| Registration and receipt | A commercial registration and a receipt in the establishment’s name | A transfer to a personal account |
| Customer service | A named person who answers you until delivery | A number that does not answer after payment |
Common mistakes when shipping from Jeddah to Georgia
- Assuming Georgia is a member of the European Union and applying EU rules to it, when it is a country with its own customs system.
- Writing “personal effects” on the list with no detail or values, so the shipment goes to detailed inspection.
- Shipping an old car without working out the excise tax on its engine capacity.
- Booking the container days before summer and expecting it at the start of the holiday.
- Placing controlled medicines or supplements of unknown composition among the belongings.
- Sending the shipment in the name of someone who will not be in Georgia on the clearance day and has authorised no one.
- Comparing two offers, one ending at the intermediate port and the other reaching Poti, as if they were the same service.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Jeddah to Georgia
How much does shipping from Jeddah to Georgia cost?
By air, a document envelope starts from SAR 83 and a parcel up to 5 kg from SAR 110. The price of a container, a cubic metre or a car is set on request, because the cargo changes vessel at an intermediate port before the Black Sea and the rate for that leg moves from one sailing to the next. Send the volume of your shipment and the consignee’s city to 0552803439 and you receive an itemised price.
How long does a container take from Jeddah to Tbilisi?
Usually 30 to 45 days from the loading day in your district to the consignee’s door for a full container, and 40 to 55 days for space in a shared container. The reason is that the line is indirect, so the container waits for the feeder vessel bound for Poti or Batumi. We confirm the expected date at booking according to the shipping line’s schedule.
How long does air freight from Jeddah to Georgia take?
Three to 6 days to the consignee’s door in Tbilisi, with a day or two added for Batumi and Kutaisi because the shipment continues to them by road from the capital. The flight itself is a few hours; the rest of the time goes to acceptance at King Abdulaziz Airport and clearance at Tbilisi airport.
Which port will my shipment reach: Poti or Batumi?
Poti is the largest container port in Georgia and most feeder vessels call there, so we send most containers to it. Batumi has a container terminal too, and it suits someone living in the city itself or in the Adjara region when a sailing to it is available. We choose the port that makes the total of sea and truck lower for you.
Are my furniture and belongings exempt from duty in Georgia?
In current practice, belongings not intended for trade are exempt for someone entering Georgia for permanent residence who proves it with a document from the competent Georgian authority, and a Georgian citizen returning after more than six months away has a one-time exemption within a set value. Anyone outside these cases pays value added tax of 18% on the value of the belongings plus their freight. We review your case before loading because the conditions are amended.
What documents do you ask me for?
For household goods: a copy of the passport, a detailed contents list with the value of each item, a notarised power of attorney for the broker in Georgia, and proof of your residence there if you are claiming the exemption. For commercial goods: an invoice, a packing list, a certificate of origin and the details of the Georgian importer. The bill of lading and the export declaration from Jeddah are prepared by us.
Do you ship cars from Jeddah to Georgia?
Yes, inside a 20ft container for one car, or a 40ft container for two cars or a car with furniture, and the price is set on request. Before booking we work out with you what you will pay in Georgia, because the excise tax there is charged on engine capacity and rises steeply for a car older than six years in current practice.
Is there land freight from Jeddah to Georgia?
We do not offer a truck service from Jeddah to Georgia, as the road crosses several countries under changing transit procedures. What sometimes happens is that the container is discharged at a Turkish port and continues by truck to the Sarpi crossing on the Georgian border, and we use that when it is faster than waiting for the Black Sea vessel.
What is not accepted in shipments bound for Georgia?
Narcotics and psychotropic substances, weapons and ammunition without a permit, and counterfeit goods. Controlled medicines enter only with a translated prescription and in a limited quantity, plants and seeds need a phytosanitary certificate, and a drone is registered with Georgian civil aviation. Zamzam water is not shipped as cargo from the Kingdom.
How do I track my shipment?
On the shipping day you receive the container number and its bill of lading number, or the air waybill number. You enter the number on the website of the shipping line or the airline and see the last recorded stop. Because the container changes vessel on the way, we tell you the name of the second vessel and its expected arrival date at Poti.
Is insurance on the shipment compulsory?
It is not compulsory, but we advise it on this line in particular, because the container is lifted on and off in at least three ports. The premium is a percentage of the value you write on the list, and the policy is issued before sailing. We photograph the pieces before packing them so the record is ready if you need to claim.
Do you collect summer travellers’ suitcases and send them ahead?
Yes. Many families who spend the summer in Batumi or Tbilisi send their extra suitcases, pushchairs and long-stay supplies by air a few days before travelling. We collect them from the home in Jeddah and hand them over at the flat or hotel there, and we arrange for someone to be at the address to receive them.
Do I need a Georgian tax number to receive my shipment?
It is commonly reported that the broker asks the consignee for a tax number, issued quickly by the service centres of the Georgian Revenue Service, through which the tax and fees due are paid. Ask about it before the shipment arrives, and we confirm what is actually required on the booking day.
Can my shipment reach Armenia or Azerbaijan through Georgia?
The port of Poti is a sea gateway for both countries, and a container bound for them crosses Georgia in transit and is not cleared there. We arrange this route on request after reviewing the transit documents and the consignee in the destination country, and its price is set on request.
Do you ship from Georgia to Jeddah?
Yes. We collect from Tbilisi, Batumi and Kutaisi, the container sails from Poti to Jeddah Islamic Port, and parcels come by air to King Abdulaziz Airport. Note that alcoholic drinks are banned from entering the Kingdom in any quantity, so they are not accepted in any shipment.
