Who ships from Jeddah to Romania, and what do they send?
Most of those who ask about this line in Jeddah are students’ parents. Romania is a well-known destination for studying medicine, dentistry and pharmacy, and its universities in Cluj-Napoca, Iasi, Timisoara and Bucharest take many Arab students on programmes taught in English and French. After them come the Romanians working in Jeddah, engineers, technicians and health staff, when their contracts end; then families moving for work or investment; then traders; then Umrah pilgrims from Romania whose purchases exceed the aircraft allowance. Each group has a different volume and a different paper to show Romanian customs:
| Shipper | What they send | Best method | Status at Romanian customs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Medical or pharmacy student | Suitcases, books, devices and room items | A suitcase by air and cartons by sea | Relief for study materials |
| Romanian whose contract in Jeddah has ended | Household furniture, appliances and a car | 20ft or 40ft container | Returnee relief after a year abroad |
| Family moving for work or investment | Luggage and selected furniture | Shared container | Transfer relief with the residence permit |
| Umrah pilgrim or visitor from Romania | Dates, abayas, prayer rugs and gifts | Air parcel | Small gift, or tax on the value |
| Trader or factory in Jeddah | Palletised goods and samples | Container for volume, air for urgent items | Tariff duty and 21% tax |
| Car owner | Private or classic car | RoRo or closed container | Full charges or the mover’s relief |
What does an international shipping company do on this line?
An international shipping company is a party that moves a shipment from one country to another and takes on everything between the two doors: the booking on the vessel or aircraft, the export declaration, dealing with customs in the country of arrival, and delivery. Its importance in Jeddah is that the city is the Kingdom’s gateway on the Red Sea, so what the trader exports and what the resident sends home both leave from it. The Romania line needs someone who knows the Black Sea route and the country’s customs paperwork. What we provide on this line:
- Sea freight: a private 20ft or 40ft container, or a share of a consolidated container, to the port of Constanta.
- Air freight: suitcases, parcels, documents and samples to Bucharest, with inland distribution to the other cities.
- Clearance: the export declaration in Jeddah, and a licensed broker in Romania who lodges the import declaration in your name.
- Insurance and tracking: optional cover on the value, and a number with which you follow the shipment until receipt.
- For companies and organisations: a contract and tax invoice, and removal of seconded employees’ furniture.
All services are gathered on the shipping services page.
The shipping route from Jeddah to Romania and how long it takes
Romania has no Mediterranean coast; its whole shoreline is on the Black Sea. A vessel leaving Jeddah transits the Suez Canal, heads north through the Aegean, enters the Dardanelles, then the Sea of Marmara, then the Bosphorus at Istanbul, and after that it is in the Black Sea a short distance from Constanta. The large vessels coming from the Red Sea do not normally enter the Black Sea, so the container is discharged at an intermediate port such as Piraeus, Port Said or one of the Turkish ports and continues on a smaller vessel that serves Constanta weekly. The stages of a private container are as follows:
| Stage | What happens | Usual time |
|---|---|---|
| Loading in Jeddah | Packing, numbering and inventory, then sealing the container | One day |
| Jeddah Islamic Port | Export declaration and waiting for the vessel date | 3–6 days |
| Sailing to the intermediate port | Red Sea, then the Suez Canal, then the eastern Mediterranean | 5–8 days |
| Change of vessel and entry to the Black Sea | Waiting for the feeder vessel, then passage through the straits | 6–10 days |
| Clearance at Constanta | Import declaration and the relief claim, or payment of what is due | 3–5 working days |
| Delivery within Romania | Lorry from the port to the address | 1–3 days |
These times are approximate and not a promise of a fixed day, because the feeder vessel’s schedule governs the arrival. The time also varies with the shipping method, and the figures below run from the door in Jeddah to the consignee’s door:
| Method | Route | Time from Jeddah | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private container | Jeddah port → intermediate port → Constanta | 22–32 days | A whole home and bulk goods |
| Shared container | Consolidation in Jeddah and sorting near Constanta or Bucharest | 28–38 days | Students’ cartons and one or two rooms |
| Car | RoRo to a European port, or a container to Constanta | Set with the booking | Running and luxury cars |
| Air | King Abdulaziz Airport → intermediate airport → Bucharest | 4–7 days | Suitcases, parcels, documents and samples |
What lengthens the time?
- The feeder vessel’s date: if the container misses the week’s sailing, it waits for the next one at the intermediate port.
- Vessels diverted from the Red Sea: when the lines sail round the Cape of Good Hope the voyage lengthens by weeks, and we tell you the actual route before payment.
- The owner’s papers: if the customs registration number or the residence permit is late, the container stays in the yard.
- Winter and holidays: snow on the Carpathian roads, the year-end break and Easter all delay inland delivery.
Times for the other destinations are on the transit times page.
Sea container freight from Jeddah to the port of Constanta

Constanta is Romania’s main container port and the largest port on the Black Sea; it is linked to the Danube by a navigable canal and to the capital by a motorway of about 225 kilometres. That is why most of the country’s containers enter through it, whether a family’s furniture or a trader’s goods. We load the container outside your home in Jeddah, it enters Jeddah Islamic Port the same day because the port is inside the city, and it is then booked on a service ending at Constanta under a single port-to-port bill of lading. The container comes in two sizes, and each suits a different load:
| Option | Approximate capacity | Suits | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20ft container | About 28 cubic metres | A flat of two or three rooms | The most requested by those returning to Romania |
| 40ft container | About 58 cubic metres | A villa, or a home with a car | The car is loaded first and lashed by its wheels |
| Share of a consolidated container | From one cubic metre | A student’s cartons or a single room | You pay for your volume and wait for consolidation |
The port is named in the bill of lading before the container is sealed; it is not left at “to Romania”. If your address is in the far west near Timisoara or Arad, on the day of booking we compare Constanta with a port on the Adriatic followed by a lorry across the border, and choose whichever is shorter overall and clearer in cost. Service details are on the sea freight page, dimensions on the container sizes page, and port procedures in the article international sea freight from Jeddah.
Shipping prices from Jeddah to Romania
Each kind of shipment has a unit by which it is charged. A suitcase or parcel goes by the kilogram of chargeable weight, a student’s cartons and a room of furniture by the cubic metre inside a shared container, a private container by one fare for the whole box, and a car by its class. Home Safe’s prices from Jeddah to Romania start from the following figures:
| What you ship | Method | Price starts from |
|---|---|---|
| Documents | Express | SAR 83 |
| Parcel up to 5 kg | Express | SAR 110 |
| Suitcases, parcels and samples | Air from King Abdulaziz Airport to Bucharest | SAR 23 per kilogram |
| Furniture and luggage | Shared container to Constanta | SAR 5,500 |
| A whole home’s furniture | Private container | SAR 11,000 |
| Saloon car | RoRo to a European port served by vehicle carriers | SAR 2,800 |
| Car inside a container to Constanta | Closed container | Set on request |
| Student’s cartons | Shared box by sea | Set on request by number of cartons |
| Commercial goods | Pallets or a full container | Set on request according to the vessel date |
Market prices for this line are close to absent. We searched the pages that discuss shipping to Romania and found none that states a figure in riyals from Jeddah; most stop at the phrase “competitive prices” or invite the reader to request a price. What is actually given is durations, not prices: two to four weeks by sea, three to seven days by air, and two to five working days for express air mail in general. The figures that are published concern domestic air cargo, such as SAR 70 for the first twenty kilograms, and are no yardstick for an international shipment. The figures in our table are starting prices, and the final one reaches you itemised.
| What sets the price | Its effect on a Romania shipment |
|---|---|
| Volume or weight | Cubic metres by sea and chargeable weight by air. Work it out with the CBM calculator |
| Delivery city | Bucharest and Constanta are nearer; Cluj, Timisoara and Iasi are further from the port |
| The address itself | A block of flats with a small lift or none, or a street a lorry cannot enter |
| Scope of service | To the quay at Constanta, or into the residence with clearance |
| Season | Late summer when students travel, and the weeks around the Hajj in Jeddah |
How do you cut the cost?
- Combine the cartons of several students bound for the same city in one shipment.
- Book at least five weeks before term starts, so that sea freight spares you costly air freight.
- Have the papers ready before the vessel arrives to avoid storage charges at the port.
The components of the price are explained on the pricing factors page, and what a container pays on leaving the port is in the article container shipping prices from Jeddah.
What is distinctive about shipping from Jeddah?
A shipper in Jeddah starts the journey almost at the quayside. The port and the airport are within the city limits, so there is no long road leg before the vessel as there is for someone shipping from an inland city. That means a day less in the timetable and one item fewer on the invoice. Jeddah still has conditions we allow for before loading day:
- Humidity: the coastal air is damp and the container moves to a cold country, so we place desiccant bags in it and wrap wood in material that breathes.
- Lorry hours: some districts admit large lorries only at set times, so we arrange the appointment in advance.
- Seasons: before and after the Hajj the port and airport are congested, so we book space earlier.
A broader picture of shipping from the city is in the article international shipping companies in Jeddah.
Shipping students’ and families’ belongings from Jeddah to Romania

A student flying to Romania takes one or two suitcases on the aircraft, and what does not fit stays at the family home: heavy medical reference books, winter clothes never needed in Jeddah, a computer, monitor and printer, bedding and small kitchen items. We collect all of it from the door of the home and divide it in two. What is needed in the first week goes by air. What can wait is packed in numbered cartons and goes by sea at a far lower cost. A family that is relocating has more, including breakables, so it is wrapped piece by piece and listed room by room.
| What is shipped | How it is prepared | Method | What the owner provides |
|---|---|---|---|
| Student’s suitcases | Locked, weighed and labelled with the name and residence address | Air | Passport copy and letter of acceptance |
| Books | Small cartons of no more than 20 kilograms each | Shared sea freight | A list with the number of cartons |
| Devices | Original box if available, or foam and a double-wall carton | Air or sea | Serial number and value |
| Winter clothes and bedding | Vacuum bags inside cartons | Shared sea freight | Nothing further |
| Family belongings | Each piece wrapped and numbered | Shared or private container | Relief papers and a detailed list |
Study materials and the used furnishings of a student’s room enter free of duty under the European rules currently applied, and we confirm what is in force before shipping. A new student should not ship by sea before signing the tenancy contract, as a fixed address is a condition for clearance and delivery.
Shipping and packing household furniture from Jeddah to Romania
Before asking what is in the Jeddah home, we ask about the home waiting in Romania. Most housing in Romanian cities is flats in multi-storey blocks, with narrow lifts and doors smaller than those of villas. A large majlis set and a six-door wardrobe may not get in. So we ask for the measurements of the door, the lift and the stairs, then decide with you what is shipped and what is sold here. The packing is planned for a journey with two container lifts, a change of vessel and a wide temperature gap between Jeddah and the Black Sea in winter:
- Dismantling: bedrooms, wardrobes and tables are taken apart, with their screws collected in a bag bearing the item number.
- Wood and leather: blankets and breathable paper, because sealed plastic traps moisture and marks appear when the air turns cold.
- Glass, marble and mirrors: treated wooden crates stamped to the international wood standard.
- Appliances: the washing machine and fridge are drained completely, as leftover water freezes in the Romanian winter.
The service is explained on the furniture shipping page, the packing method in the packing guide, and securing on the packing and lashing page.
Transfer-of-residence relief in Romania
Anyone moving their place of residence to Romania brings in used belongings free of customs duty and tax, whether a returning Romanian or a foreigner who has obtained residence. The rule is a common European one, but the Romanian office has requests of its own, chiefly a notarised ownership statement and power of attorney, and a customs registration number in the name of the owner of the belongings. This is current practice, and we confirm what is in force before shipping because application changes:
| Condition or document | Detail |
|---|---|
| Previous residence | At least 12 months outside Romania and the European Union |
| Ownership and use | At least six months before the move; new items in their boxes are not relieved |
| No disposal | The goods are not sold after release for a period that may reach two years, as the office’s undertaking states |
| Residence permit or registration | A residence permit for a non-European, and an identity card for a returning Romanian |
| Ownership statement | Notarised, stating the period of ownership and that the goods are not for trade |
| Power of attorney | Notarised in the broker’s name, one original per shipment |
| Customs registration number | Obtained electronically in the owner’s name before arrival |
| Proof of housing and work | A tenancy or ownership contract in Romania, and the employer’s letter in the Kingdom |
A shipment that lands before its owner’s residence permit is issued is not turned back: under current practice a provisional undertaking is accepted and the amount of the charges is held as a guarantee, refunded when the permit is presented within a period running to months. A guarantee is frozen money, though, and it is easier for the permit to arrive ahead of the vessel. Notarisation is simpler while you are in the Kingdom, through the consular section of the Romanian embassy in Riyadh or before a notary in Romania, depending on what the customs office accepts. No food, tobacco or alcoholic drink is accepted among relieved belongings.
Private container or shared container?
Volume is the first deciding factor. Anything below 12 to 15 cubic metres is cheaper in a shared container, because you pay for your own space alone. Above that, a private container becomes cheaper per metre, leaves on its date and is not opened until it arrives. The second factor is time: a shared container adds roughly a week between consolidation in Jeddah and sorting in Romania.
| Comparison | Private container | Shared container |
|---|---|---|
| Who it suits | A whole home, furniture with a car, or bulk goods | A student’s cartons, a room or a few pallets |
| Time to the door | 22–32 days | 28–38 days |
| Price starts from | SAR 11,000 | SAR 5,500 |
| Number of handlings | Two: loading and unloading | Four or more, so sturdier packing is needed |
Shipping parcels, gifts and Umrah pilgrims’ luggage
A small parcel is the easiest thing to send to Romania and the most frequent: a mother sending her son what he misses, a pilgrim who bought more than can be carried. The European rule on parcels separates a gift from a purchase. A gift from one individual to another is relieved as long as its value is small, at around 45 euros. An item bought from a shop has value added tax collected on it however small its value, and customs duty is added if the value rises. This is current practice, and we confirm what is in force before shipping.
- Dates, coffee and cardamom: sealed packs and personal quantities.
- Abayas, thobes and prayer rugs: unrestricted, with their real value declared.
- Perfumes and oud oil: limited quantities with special packing by air, as they are flammable.
- Zamzam water: we do not ship it as cargo.
- Consignee details: the name as on the identity document, the postcode, and a Romanian phone number that is answered.
Service details are on the parcel shipping page.
Shipping commercial goods and samples to Romania
A trader in Jeddah finds in Romania a market inside the European Union: goods cleared at Constanta then move between the member states with no second customs. What leaves Jeddah commercially is mostly dates and dry foodstuffs for community shops, plastics and raw materials for factories, and samples for trade fairs. Commercial goods enter under a full import declaration, and the importer pays the duty of the tariff heading and 21% value added tax at the rate in force, with a lower rate for some foods.
- Documents: commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading and certificate of origin.
- Importer: a Romanian company holding a valid European customs registration number.
- Conformity: appliances, toys and protective equipment need the European conformity mark and its file.
- Foodstuffs: a label in Romanian, and they may be examined at the border control post in the port.
The service is explained on the commercial shipping page.
Car shipping from Jeddah to Romania
A car has two ways out of Jeddah Islamic Port. The first is the RoRo vessel: a running car is driven aboard and lashed to the deck, and the fare starts from SAR 2,800 for a saloon. Vehicle carriers do not call regularly in the Black Sea, so the car is landed at a European port served by those vessels and completes the journey by road. The second is a closed container straight to Constanta, the better choice for a luxury or classic car and for anyone shipping household furniture with it, priced on request. After arrival the Romanian state’s procedures begin:
| Item | Current practice in Romania |
|---|---|
| Customs duty | 10% on the value of the car plus freight and insurance |
| Value added tax | 21% at the rate in force, on the value after duty |
| Transfer-of-residence relief | For a car its owner has owned and used for at least six months |
| Identity and conformity check | At the Romanian Automotive Register; a non-European car goes through an individual inspection |
| Registration and plates | At the county vehicle registration office, then the road vignette and an annual tax by engine size |
The right calculation starts with the inspection, not the sea fare. A Gulf-specification car may have to be modified before plates are issued, and environmental charges may apply according to its emissions. So we ask for the chassis number and year of manufacture first, and tell you what awaits the car before you pay anything. The general conditions are in the article car shipping from Saudi Arabia, and the two methods on the RoRo shipping and container car shipping pages.
Customs clearance in Romania and the documents required
Customs in Romania are run by the Romanian Customs Authority, and a licensed broker deals with it, lodging the declaration in the consignee’s name under a power of attorney. The shipment passes through two declarations: export, issued at Jeddah’s port or airport, and import at Constanta or Bucharest airport. What is particular to Romania is that the documents are sent to the customs office before the shipment arrives, not with it, so whoever delays a paper pays storage. Duties and taxes, if due, are paid directly to the Romanian treasury and are not part of the freight charge.
| Document | Personal effects and furniture | Commercial goods |
|---|---|---|
| Passport | Colour copy | Not required |
| Residence permit or university acceptance letter | Required | Not required |
| Customs registration number | In the name of the owner of the belongings | In the name of the importing company |
| Inventory or packing list | Itemised with values | With weights and dimensions |
| Notarised ownership statement and power of attorney | For a relief claim | Power of attorney for the broker |
| Housing contract and employer’s letter | For a relief claim | Not required |
| Commercial invoice and certificate of origin | For new items only | Both required |
| Sea or air bill of lading | Issued by us | Issued by us |
A fuller list is on the shipping documents page, and the stages are explained on the customs clearance page.
What cannot be shipped to Romania or needs a permit
We go through the contents of the shipment with you before the first carton is closed. Some items are barred by the European Union rules that Romania applies, some are refused by airlines and shipping lines for their hazard, and some enter with a paper. Finding a non-compliant item at inspection stops the whole shipment, even if it sits in a small box among the clothes.
| Item | Status |
|---|---|
| Meat, dairy, cheese and ghee | Animal products banned from outside the European Union |
| Food inside a furniture shipment | Not accepted among household effects |
| Tobacco, shisha tobacco and alcoholic drinks | Outside the relief and subject to special taxes |
| Plants, seeds and soil | Plant-health certificate |
| Medicines | Personal need, with the prescription |
| Weapons, ammunition and fireworks | Banned without prior licence |
| Counterfeit goods | Confiscated |
| Loose batteries, aerosols and paints | Dangerous goods with their own packing and declaration |
The general list is on the prohibited items page.
Delivering shipments from Jeddah in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara and Iasi

After release at Constanta or at Bucharest airport, the Romanian agent carries the shipment to the address, and delivery to the door of the residence includes unloading and carrying up to the floor. Bucharest is the nearest of the big cities to the port, on a fast, level road. Cluj-Napoca in the heart of Transylvania and Timisoara in the west are separated from the coast by the arc of the Carpathians, so their lorry takes a day or two longer. Iasi is in the north-east near the Moldovan border. Central Bucharest is restricted for heavy lorries, so the shipment completes its journey there in a lighter vehicle.
| City | Approximate distance from Constanta | Lorry time after release | Delivery note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bucharest | About 225 kilometres | One day | Centre restricted for lorries, and blocks with small lifts |
| Cluj-Napoca | About 670 kilometres | 2–3 days | A university city, with student districts on hills |
| Timisoara | About 770 kilometres | 2–3 days | The furthest big city from the port |
| Iasi | About 430 kilometres | Two days | Much student housing around the medical university |
| Brasov | About 390 kilometres | Two days | A mountain road affected by snow in winter |
| Constanta | Within the city | On the day of release or the next | Has a medical university attended by Arab students |
We also deliver to Sibiu, Oradea, Arad, Galati, Targu Mures and Ploiesti, and to small towns with the day agreed in advance. How the service works is on the door-to-door shipping page.
Air freight from Jeddah to Romania

Air freight is for urgent suitcases and parcels: the suitcase of a student whose term has begun, acceptance or legalisation papers, medicine with its prescription, a trader’s sample, a gift with a date. The shipment is handed in at the cargo building of King Abdulaziz International Airport, where it is weighed, measured and security-screened, then loaded on a flight to Bucharest’s international airport at Otopeni. Direct flights between the two cities are not regular all year round, so the shipment usually travels with one connection. It is delivered in Bucharest within 4 to 7 days of collection, and in the other cities with a day or two more. The price starts from SAR 23 per kilogram.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Departure airport | King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah |
| Arrival airport | Bucharest, with road distribution to Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara and Iasi |
| Time to the door | 4–7 days in Bucharest |
| How it is charged | Chargeable weight, meaning the greater of actual and volumetric weight |
| Price starts from | SAR 23 per kilogram, documents from SAR 83, and a parcel up to 5 kg from SAR 110 |
| Not accepted by air | Loose batteries, perfumes in bulk, aerosols and anything flammable |
A bulging, light suitcase is charged on its volume, not its weight, so compress the clothes and do the sum before booking with the volumetric weight calculator. What an aircraft accepts and refuses is set out on the air freight page, and anyone wanting to know how the work runs inside the airport can read the article air freight office in Jeddah.
Air or sea, and is there overland freight to Romania?
The gap between the two routes is wider on this line than on the Mediterranean lines, because the Black Sea adds a change of vessel. What you need within a week should not wait for the container, and anything beyond a few dozen kilograms is not worth the air fare. Most families combine the two.
- Air: 4–7 days, by the kilogram, for light and urgent items.
- Sea: 22–38 days, by the cubic metre or the container, for everything bulky.
- Overland: not offered. The road crosses several countries and crossings whose conditions change, and the sea is clearer in time and cost.
The detailed comparison is on the shipping methods comparison page.
Collection from Jeddah’s districts and nearby towns
Collection is from the door of the home in every district of Jeddah, and you are not asked to carry anything to an office. A courier takes a suitcase or parcel on a short visit, and the packing crew comes for furniture at an agreed time. What is collected in the morning spends the night in the warehouse or inside the sealed container.
| Area | Districts and towns | Note |
|---|---|---|
| North Jeddah | Obhur, Ash Shati, Al Mohammadiyah, An Naim, Al Basateen, Az Zomorod | Villas and compounds; the container stands at the door |
| Central Jeddah | Ar Rawdah, Az Zahra, As Salamah, Al Hamra, Al Andalus, Al Aziziyah | Blocks of flats, so the lift and lorry bay are reserved |
| East Jeddah | As Safa, Al Marwah, Ar Rehab, An Naseem, As Samer, Al Ajwad | A motorway close by to the port |
| South Jeddah and Al Balad | Al Balad, Al Kandarah, Al Baghdadiyah, As Sanabel, Al Khumrah | Narrow lanes in Al Balad need a small vehicle |
| Nearby towns | Makkah, Taif, Rabigh, Thuwal, Dhahban, Al Lith | Haulage to Jeddah is added |
The cities we cover in the Kingdom are on the shipping cities page.
Ways to get in touch and book
There are three channels for reaching us, and each ends with a member of staff who knows the Romania line. A phone call for a quick answer about time or method, WhatsApp on the same number for sending photos of the items and measurements, and the request form on the website for anyone who prefers a written reply. For an accurate price from the first message, send: the type of shipment, the number of pieces or cartons, the district in Jeddah, the Romanian city, and the date by which you want it to arrive.
Steps for shipping from Jeddah to Romania
- Request: you send photos of the shipment and the delivery city in Romania to 0552803439.
- Price: we survey by photos or at the home, and write the price with its items and what it does and does not include.
- Papers: we establish your status before Romanian customs, and start on the customs registration number and the power of attorney.
- Packing: the crew arrives, dismantles, wraps, numbers and writes the inventory.
- Loading: into a container at your door, to the consolidation warehouse, or to the cargo building at the airport.
- Export: we complete the export declaration and send you the container or bill number and the vessel name.
- Clearance in Romania: the agent lodges the declaration and the relief claim, and tells you of anything due.
- Delivery: a lorry to the door of the residence, unloading, and a signature after the items are checked against the list.
Tracking and insuring the shipment
Tracking on the Constanta line has one point every customer asks about: the intermediate port. The container number appears on the shipping line’s website from the moment it enters Jeddah port, then updates stop for days while it waits for the feeder vessel, and that is normal. We send you a message at each station: sailing from Jeddah, discharge at the intermediate port, loading on the Black Sea vessel, berthing at Constanta, release, and the lorry’s departure. An air shipment has an air waybill number you follow on the carrier’s website.
Insurance is optional, and we consider it necessary on a line with a change of vessel. It is calculated as a percentage of the value you write in the list, and comes in two kinds: all-risks, covering breakage, water damage and loss from door to door, and restricted, covering total loss only. The sea carrier’s liability for damage is measured by weight, not price, so it does not compensate for a computer, a painting or a car. Details are on the shipment tracking and cargo insurance pages.
Shipping from Romania to Jeddah
The reverse direction is requested by two kinds of customer. The first is the graduating student returning with books, devices and what was gathered over the years of study, whose cartons are collected from the residence and shipped by sea or air. The second is the importer buying wooden furniture, spare parts or equipment from Romania, where the agent collects from the factory and loads at Constanta for Jeddah Islamic Port.
- Personal effects: they enter the Kingdom as such when used and belonging to their owner.
- New goods: duty according to the category and 15% value added tax.
How do you choose a shipping company from Jeddah to Romania?
Three things settle the choice: cost, reputation and customer service. Cost is compared between offers of equal scope, since a price to the quay at Constanta cannot be set against a price to the door of a flat in Cluj. Reputation is known from the reviews of customers who have actually shipped to Europe and from a commercial registration that can be verified, not from a string of promises. Customer service is tested before payment: does someone who knows the line answer you, and do they put what they said in writing. As for offers and discounts, accept them when they apply to a price with written items, and be wary of a large discount on a figure whose basis you do not know. These questions reveal the difference:
| What you ask about | A reassuring answer | A worrying answer |
|---|---|---|
| Legal status | Commercial registration, contract and receipt | A transfer to a personal account with no paper |
| Arrival port | Constanta by name, with the intermediate port | “To Europe” with nothing specified |
| Duration | A range in days that separates sailing from delivery | “A week and it is with you” for a sea container |
| Romanian customs | Asks about residence, the power of attorney and the registration number | “Used goods enter without papers” |
| Price | Written items and what is excluded | A spoken figure, or a discount on an unknown price |
| Delivery | Asks about the floor, the lift and the city | “You collect from the port” with no explanation |
Common mistakes when shipping from Jeddah to Romania
- Working out the time on Mediterranean lines and forgetting the change of vessel before the Black Sea.
- The container arriving before the residence permit or the customs registration number.
- Putting dates, coffee or tins inside the relieved furniture container.
- Shipping a student’s cartons before there is a fixed residence address.
- Leaving water in the washing machine or fridge when the shipment arrives in winter.
- Writing “personal effects” in the list without naming what is in each carton.
- Shipping a Gulf-specification car before asking about the conformity inspection.
Tips and a summary before you ship
The above in a few lines. The route is by sea to Constanta or by air to Bucharest, the time is a little longer than to Mediterranean ports because of the Black Sea, the price follows the volume, the city and the scope of service, and the Romanian papers go ahead of the shipment, not after it. These tips shorten the way:
- Decide the method from the volume and the date, then ask about the price.
- Start the power of attorney and the customs registration number on booking day, not arrival day.
- Time the container to arrive a week or two after you.
- Insure the shipment and photograph valuable pieces before they are wrapped.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Jeddah to Romania
How long does a shipment from Jeddah to Romania take?
A private container reaches the Romanian address in 22 to 32 days counted from the day it is loaded in Jeddah, and a shared container in 28 to 38 days because it waits for the consolidation to fill and is then sorted. The reason is that most services to Constanta change vessel once at an intermediate port. An air parcel reaches Bucharest in 4 to 7 days.
How much does shipping from Jeddah to Romania cost?
An express document envelope starts from SAR 83, a parcel up to 5 kg from SAR 110 and an air kilogram from SAR 23. By sea, shared-container furniture starts from SAR 5,500 and a whole home in a private container from SAR 11,000. We put the final figure in writing once we know the volume and the name of the Romanian city.
Which port does the container arrive at in Romania?
Constanta, the country’s main container port and the largest port on the Black Sea. From there the lorry takes the motorway to Bucharest, about 225 kilometres away, and then on to the other cities. For addresses in the far west near Timisoara, a port on the Adriatic may be considered if its schedule is better on the day of booking.
Are there direct cargo flights from Jeddah to Bucharest?
Direct flights between the two cities are not constant: they have run in some seasons and stopped in others. We therefore work out the time on a flight with one connection through an intermediate airport such as Istanbul or one of the Gulf airports. This leaves the base price unchanged and usually adds a day to what a direct flight would have taken.
Will I pay customs on my used furniture when it enters Romania?
Nothing is paid when the transfer-of-residence conditions currently applied are met: a year or more of living outside the European Union, belongings you have owned and used for at least six months, and a residence permit or registration in Romania. Anyone outside those conditions pays the duty for each item and 21% value added tax at the rate in force. We review your file before booking.
What is the customs registration number I am asked for?
It is the identification number for those dealing with customs in the European Union, issued electronically by the Romanian Customs Authority. What is particular to this country is that the private owner of the belongings is asked for it too, not only the trader. We obtain it for you through the broker under a notarised power of attorney, and we start before the vessel sails so the container does not sit in the yard waiting for it.
Do you ship medical students’ belongings to Cluj-Napoca, Iasi and Timisoara?
Yes, and it is what we send most to Romania in late summer. We collect the suitcases, books and devices from the door of the home in Jeddah; the first-week suitcase flies to Bucharest, while the cartons of books, winter clothes and room items go by sea in a shared box. We deliver to the university residence or the rented flat.
Do I have to be in Romania when the shipment arrives?
Your presence before the customs officer is not required under current practice, as the broker lodges the declaration under a notarised power of attorney from you. Your presence, or that of someone acting for you, at the address on delivery day is necessary, though, to sign for receipt and check the items against the list. That is why we advise that the container arrives a week or two after you do.
Do you ship a car from Jeddah to Romania?
Yes. A running car is shipped on a RoRo vessel from Jeddah Islamic Port to a European port served by vehicle carriers, and the fare starts from SAR 2,800 for a saloon. Anyone who wants it in Constanta directly has it lashed inside a container, priced on request. In Romania there is 10% duty and 21% tax unless the mover’s relief covers it, then inspection and registration.
Can a Gulf-specification car be registered in Romania?
It can, after it has been through the Romanian Automotive Register, the body that verifies the identity and conformity of the vehicle. A car built for the Gulf market usually carries no European certificate of conformity, so it undergoes an individual inspection that may require changes to the lighting or the emissions paperwork. Send us the chassis number and year of manufacture before you decide.
Is it permitted to send dates, coffee and spices to Romania?
They can be sent in personal quantities in sealed packs inside an air or postal parcel, and dates need no plant-health certificate under the European rules currently applied. Meat, dairy and ghee are banned from outside the European Union. We place no food at all inside the relieved furniture container, because Romanian customs do not accept it among household effects.
Will my electrical appliances work in Romania?
The voltage in both countries is around 230 V, so most appliances work without a transformer. The socket differs, as in Romania it takes two round pins, and so does the frequency, which is 50 Hz there. A computer, a phone and a television need only a suitable plug. For a washing machine, an air conditioner or any appliance with a motor, read the label before paying to move it.
Do you deliver to Romanian cities other than Bucharest?
Yes, to Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, Iasi, Constanta, Brasov, Craiova, Sibiu, Oradea, Galati, Targu Mures and the other cities and towns. The lorry leaves from the port of Constanta or from Bucharest airport, and the cities of Transylvania and the west need a day or two more than the capital because the road crosses the Carpathian mountains.
Do you collect the shipment from my home in Jeddah?
Yes, from any district of Jeddah, and from Makkah, Taif, Rabigh, Thuwal and Al Lith with the haulage to Jeddah added. The crew arrives with cartons and packing materials, dismantles the furniture, wraps it, numbers it and writes the list on the spot. Anyone with two suitcases or a single carton can ask for a courier or hand them in personally at our warehouse.
Do you ship from Romania to Jeddah?
Yes. Our agent collects from the factory, shop or residence in any Romanian city, and the shipment is loaded in a container from Constanta to Jeddah Islamic Port or on an aircraft to King Abdulaziz Airport. The used personal effects of someone returning to the Kingdom enter as such, while new goods attract the duty for their category and 15% value added tax.
