Who ships from Madinah to Germany, and what do they ship?

Madinah’s shipments to Germany are smaller than those of the commercial cities and more varied. They include scholarship holders and students travelling with their books and clothes, graduates of Madinah’s universities returning home, visitors to the Prophet’s Mosque whose purchases follow them, residents moving there for work, and date exporters. Because the papers and the tax follow the shipper’s status rather than the type of belongings, we first ask why you are travelling:

Shipper What they usually ship Best method Treatment at German customs
Scholarship holder or student leaving to study Books, winter clothes, a computer and small kitchen items Cartons in a shared container, with urgent items by air Student relief on proof of admission
Graduate of a Madinah university returning to Germany A personal library and the baggage of the study years Sea part load Transfer-of-residence relief if the conditions are met
Visitor who came from Germany Dates, prayer rugs, perfumes and gifts A carton or two by air Gifts and personal items at their declared value
Doctor or employee moving with the family Household furniture, appliances and a car 20ft or 40ft container Transfer-of-residence relief on its conditions
Date exporter or trader Packed dates, food products and gifts Pallets as a part load or a container, samples by air Duty by tariff heading and import VAT

Shipping route from Madinah to Germany and its transit time

The sea journey from Madinah has one stage more than the journey from the coastal cities, the road to the port: about 420 km that the truck covers in a day. The days at sea are no more than two thirds of the total; the rest is packing, procedures in both countries and transport inside Germany. These are the stages of a full container:

Stage What happens Usual duration
Packing and loading in Madinah Dismantling and wrapping the furniture, numbering the pieces and writing the inventory 1–2 days
The road to Jeddah port A truck on the Hijrah motorway, about 420 km One day
Export and waiting for the vessel The Saudi customs declaration and handing the container to the shipping line 3–5 days
Sailing to Hamburg Suez, then the Mediterranean, the Atlantic and the North Sea 16–22 days
German clearance The import declaration and the relief application or payment of tax 2–3 working days
Inland transport and delivery Truck or train to the city, then unloading in the home 1–3 days

This is the time each method takes from your door in Madinah to the consignee’s door:

Method Route Time from Madinah to the door Suits
Full container Madinah → Jeddah port → Hamburg 26–36 days A whole home or wholesale goods
Shared container Consolidated in Jeddah and sorted in a warehouse in Hamburg 30–40 days Students’ cartons, baggage and a few pieces of furniture
RoRo for cars Transporter to Jeddah, then a car carrier vessel to Bremerhaven 26–36 days A running car that is driven onto the vessel
Air Madinah airport on a connecting flight, or Jeddah airport direct 3–6 days Parcels, suitcases, documents and samples

What lengthens the transit time?

  • Missing the cut-off: a vessel has a final time for accepting containers. If loading in Madinah slips by a day, the container may wait a week for the next vessel.
  • Changing vessel on the way: some sailings reach Hamburg direct, and on others the container moves to another vessel at a hub port in the Mediterranean. We tell you which kind it is when booking.
  • Visiting seasons: in Ramadan and the Hajj season truck movement inside Madinah is regulated more tightly, so the loading day needs earlier booking.

To compare these times with those of other countries, see the transit times page.

From Madinah via Jeddah port to Hamburg

From Madinah via Jeddah port to Hamburg

Madinah is an inland city whose nearest sea is the Red Sea, so every sea shipment from it begins with a truck to the port. The container, 20ft or 40ft, is loaded at your home if the street can take it and sealed with a number, then travels to Jeddah Islamic Port. From there a vessel carries it through the Suez Canal, the Mediterranean and the Strait of Gibraltar, up alongside Europe to the North Sea, then into the River Elbe to Hamburg.

Madinah has two Saudi ports, and the nearer is not always the better. Yanbu is roughly half the distance, but the northern Europe lines call at Jeddah more often, so we normally book through Jeddah:

Comparison Jeddah Islamic Port Yanbu Commercial Port
Distance from Madinah About 420 km About 220 km
Sailings towards northern Europe More of them, at closer dates Fewer, depending on the shipping line’s schedule
When we use it For most shipments When a suitable sailing exists, confirmed before booking

Hamburg, for its part, is Germany’s largest container port and lies on the River Elbe about 110 km from its mouth. It is the port of the country’s north and east, so trucks and container trains leave it for Hanover, Berlin and Leipzig over short distances, and shared containers are opened there and each consignee’s share sorted. The ports are introduced on the ports and gateways page, and what happens at the Saudi port is explained in the article on international sea freight from Jeddah.

Shipping price from Madinah to Germany

The bill on this route has four items: the road from Madinah to the port or airport, then the vessel or aircraft freight, then clearance and transport inside Germany, then unloading and assembly if you want them. The first item weighs more here than in Jeddah or Makkah, because the truck covers more than four hundred kilometres before the sea, so we price it for each shipment by its volume. These are the prices our services start from:

What you ship Method Price starts from
Parcels, suitcases and samples Air from Madinah airport or via Jeddah SAR 23 per kilogram
Documents and certificates Express SAR 83
Furniture and baggage Shared container to Hamburg SAR 5,500
A whole home’s furniture Full 20ft or 40ft container SAR 11,000
Saloon car RoRo from Jeddah port SAR 2,800
Students’ and visitors’ cartons Per carton in a shared container Set on request by number and size of cartons
Transport from Madinah to Jeddah port Closed truck, container or car transporter Set on request by volume and collection point

The prices quoted in the market for the Madinah–Germany route are few and far apart, and most of those advertising the service settle for a phrase such as “25% discount” with no price to measure it against. What is actually published is the rates of global express couriers: an international parcel from about SAR 250, and about USD 60 for three kilograms, 75 for five and 110 for ten. Much higher figures also circulate for this route: between SAR 1,800 and 2,400 for an air parcel of up to 5 kilograms, between SAR 4,500 and 6,800 for appliances weighing 20 kilograms, between SAR 9,000 and 15,000 for furniture in a shared container, between SAR 12,000 and 20,000 for a car with its clearance, and between SAR 22,000 and 35,000 for a dedicated container of goods. Some are freight only and others include packing, clearance and delivery, so ask where the price ends before you compare. Why container freight moves from month to month is explained in the article on container shipping prices from Jeddah.

Factor How it affects a Madinah–Germany shipment
Shipping method Shared for a small volume, full for whoever fills a container, and the aircraft dearer per kilogram and faster
Volume and weight Sea charges by the cubic metre and air by chargeable weight. Estimate your volume with the CBM calculator
Collection point A home in a spacious district, a hotel near the Prophet’s Mosque, or a governorate away from Madinah
The German city Hanover and Berlin are closer to Hamburg than Munich and Stuttgart

How do you bring the cost down?

  • If you are students travelling to the same German city, put your cartons into one booking and share the cost of the road to Jeddah.
  • Send books by sea even if they are few; they are the heaviest part of a student’s baggage and the dearest if they fly.

Each item of the price is explained on the pricing factors page.

What is distinctive about shipping from Madinah?

Madinah has three characteristics that change the way the work is done. It has an international airport and no port, so an air shipment may leave from it directly while a sea shipment travels by road first. Most of its districts are flat with wide streets, so the container stops at the front door. Its centre around the Prophet’s Mosque is crowded, and truck entry there is regulated by hours set by the traffic department that tighten in the seasons. The Haramain train is for passengers only, so no cargo is carried on it. This is the effect of each characteristic on a Germany shipment:

Characteristic Effect on your shipment What we do
A city without a port An extra day on the road before the sea We book the vessel first, then set the loading day against its date
An international airport in the city A parcel does not always need to travel to Jeddah We compare the connecting flight from Madinah with the direct flight from Jeddah and choose the faster
Truck regulation in the central area Collection from hotels is tied to set times We confirm the hours in force before the loading day and collect with a small vehicle
Widely spaced governorates Small shipments from Yanbu, Badr, Khaybar and Al-Ula We gather them in Madinah or add them along the truck’s route

Shipping students’ belongings from Madinah to Germany

Shipping students’ belongings from Madinah to Germany

Students ask about this route more than anyone else in Madinah. Their shipment contains almost no furniture, because rooms in German student halls are mostly handed over furnished with a bed, a desk and a wardrobe. What they ship is books, clothes and devices: reference works and dictionaries, winter coats and shoes, a computer and printer, and kitchen items for one person. That usually comes to five to ten cartons, heavier than an airline suitcase and smaller than a container, so its place is a small air shipment or a shared container.

What the student ships Best method Note
Books, references and course notes By sea in small, sturdy cartons A small carton is easy to carry up the stairs of the hall
Winter clothes and shoes By sea, with the first month’s items in your suitcase Vacuum bags cut the volume by about half
Computer, printer and monitor By air if you need them in the first week, otherwise by sea in their original boxes The computer’s battery stays inside it and is not shipped loose
Attested certificates and documents An express envelope, or with you in hand luggage Originals never go into a sea carton

Timing is half the matter. The winter semester at German universities starts in autumn and the summer one in spring, and sea cartons need five to six weeks. So hand us your belongings a month and a half before you travel and find them there in the first days of term. If your housing address has not reached you yet, we keep the cartons in the warehouse until you send it.

  • Customs relief: study materials, clothing and simple used furniture for a student’s room are relieved under the rules in force in the European Union, provided they are for personal use during the studies. The proof is the admission letter or the certificate of enrolment at the university or language institute.
  • Delivery to the student’s housing: on every carton we write the name of the hall, the building and room number, and your German phone number once you have one. If the hall has a reception office, we agree the receiving time with it.

General guidance on the service is on the parcel shipping page.

Moving furniture and furnishings and packing them for the long road

A home’s furniture leaving Madinah goes through four handlings: loading at the house, a long road on which the container shakes for hours, three weeks at sea with changing temperature and humidity, then unloading in a German building. So we draw up a loading plan for each home that sets what is dismantled and what enters the container first, and choose the packing for each item according to what harms it:

Item Packing method What we point out
Bedrooms, wardrobes and tables Dismantled, panels wrapped in blankets and corrugated board, screws gathered in a numbered bag We draw a dismantling diagram so reassembly in Germany involves no guesswork
Sofas, majlis seating and mattresses Thick polythene, then a fabric cover that prevents rubbing Measure the German flat’s door and stairs before shipping a large sofa
Glass, mirrors and crockery Paper, then foam, then a partitioned carton, with mirrors in a wooden frame The upright side and a “fragile” mark are written on the carton

After packing comes the arrangement inside the container. Heavy pieces go on the floor towards the front and light ones above them, gaps are filled with mattresses and cushions, then the rows are strapped to the wall rings. Every piece carries a label with its number and the name of its room, so the unloading crew in Germany knows where to put it. The service itself is on the furniture shipping page, and packing materials are in the packing guide.

Shipping appliances and electronic equipment

Devices are damaged when they are packed the way furniture is packed: a screen breaks under light pressure, and a computer is harmed by moisture. The original box with its moulded inserts is the best packing; where it is missing, we make the device a double-wall carton with padding that holds it on all six sides and a moisture-absorbing sachet. We photograph the device working before closing to document its condition.

  • Electricity: the voltage in Germany is 230 V and the frequency 50 Hz, and the socket takes two round pins. Most modern devices are labelled 50/60 Hz and work with a change of plug alone; ask us before shipping anything labelled 60 Hz only.
  • Large household appliances: a washing machine’s drum is fixed with its transit bolts, and a fridge is emptied, dried and travels upright.

Full container or shared container?

The answer starts with volume. A two-bedroom flat in Madinah roughly fills a 20ft container, and a large house needs a 40ft. Anything less, such as a student’s cartons, a bedroom or a visitor’s baggage, takes a space in a container shared by several shippers. In Madinah there is one more difference: a full container is loaded at your home and sealed, whereas a shared load first travels in a closed truck to Jeddah.

Point of comparison Full container Shared container
Suits A family moving with its furniture, or furniture with a car A student, a visitor, a room or two, a trader’s pallets
How it is charged One price for the container By the cubic metres you take
From Madinah to the port The container itself on a truck, sealed at your home A closed truck to the consolidation warehouse in Jeddah
Time to the door 26–36 days 30–40 days
Price starts from SAR 11,000 for a home’s furniture SAR 5,500

If your volume falls between the two, we write both prices with the difference in time and you choose. Container dimensions are on the container sizes page, and both methods are detailed on the sea freight page.

Shipping visitors’ baggage and Madinah dates to Germany

A visitor from Germany does not leave Madinah without dates. Ajwa, Safawi, Sukkari and Medjool from the central date market are bought by the carton, together with prayer rugs, copies of the Qur’an, perfumes and gifts. That is more than the ticket allows, so the visitor travels with a suitcase and we collect the rest from the hotel and send it to the German address.

  • Collection from the hotel: you leave the cartons at reception marked with your name and room number, and we collect them against a receipt showing the number of pieces and their weight.
  • Dates at European customs: dates are exempt from the plant health certificate under the rules in force, so they enter as part of personal baggage. We pack them in their original sealed cartons and write their type and weight in the list.
  • What does not travel with the dates: ghee, cheese and dried meat are animal products not accepted in personal consignments to the European Union. Honey is restricted by the same rules, so we confirm what applies before accepting it.
  • Gifts: what one individual sends to another has a small relief threshold at German customs under the rules in force, and tax is charged above it. So we write the value of each carton as it is.

Delivering parcels and commercial goods

A personal parcel needs only a declaration of its contents and value with the consignee’s name and phone. Goods, by contrast, enter Germany in the name of an importer with a European customs identification number, and bear 19% import VAT, or 7% on most foodstuffs under the rules in force, plus duty according to the tariff heading. What Madinah exports to Germany most is packed dates, followed by gifts and religious items.

  • Dates in bulk: they ship on pallets in a dry container in the cooler months, or a refrigerated one for the soft varieties if the buyer asks. The label in German is the importer’s responsibility.
  • Online shops: for anyone selling from Madinah to customers in Germany we fly the parcels weekly, or send sea stock to a warehouse that distributes from there.
  • Delivery term: we agree it in writing from the start: to the port of Hamburg, or to the buyer’s warehouse after clearance.

The documents and terms of a commercial shipment are on the commercial shipping page.

Car shipping from Madinah to Germany

The car is not driven from Madinah to the port; it is carried on a transporter so that its odometer does not rise and no road accident befalls it. Before loading we write a condition report with photos from every side. At Jeddah port there are two routes: a RoRo vessel onto which the car is driven and which lands it at Bremerhaven, starting from SAR 2,800 for a saloon, or a container in which it is secured by the wheels and which arrives at Hamburg, suited to a luxury car and to anyone shipping furniture with it, with its price set on request.

  • Export from the Kingdom: the car’s plates are cancelled and the traffic department issues an export certificate once fines are settled; if it is financed, a release letter from the finance provider is needed.
  • German customs: 10% duty on the value of the car plus its freight, then 19% import VAT on the total. Anyone covered by transfer-of-residence relief brings in a car used for at least six months without duty, and may not sell it within a year.
  • Inspection and registration: a Gulf-specification car needs a full technical inspection by an approved body before it is registered, and modifications may be required. Ask about their cost before you decide.
  • Environmental zones: central Berlin and central Leipzig are low-emission zones that a car may not enter without the green sticker under the rules in force, while other cities have abolished theirs, so we confirm the position in your city.

For anyone who wants to compare before handing over a car in Madinah: the RoRo car shipping page explains the cheaper way, the container car shipping page the better-protected one, and the article on car shipping from Saudi Arabia gathers what the traffic department and customs require before departure.

German customs and the documents required

Germany applies the European Union’s customs rules, and three of them cover most of Madinah’s shipments. A student’s study belongings are relieved, a person transferring residence has used furniture and baggage relieved, and everything else, whether new in its box or goods for sale, bears 19% import VAT and duty by item type. The conditions in force for the mover’s relief are:

  • Previous residence: at least one continuous year outside the European Union before the move.
  • Period of use: the belongings have been in your possession and use for at least six months.
  • Time limit for entry: within twelve months of your actual move, in one consignment or several.
  • After release: no sale, hire or lending for one year.

The key to the relief is the certificate of registration of residence issued by the residents’ office in the German city, so do not let the container sail before you know when you will receive your flat. We check the conditions in force with the German clearing agent for every case.

Document Who needs it Note
Copy of the passport and German visa or residence permit Every shipper The name as it will be written on the bill of lading
Numbered list of contents Every shipment In English or German with an estimated value for each line
Admission letter or university enrolment certificate The student Shows that the belongings are for the period of study
Certificate of registration of residence in Germany The person transferring residence From the residents’ office in the German city
Proof of previous residence in the Kingdom The person transferring residence The residence permit and final exit visa, or the employment and tenancy contracts
Vehicle registration and export certificate The car shipper Originals, with the purchase invoice if available
Commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin The trader Plus the importer’s customs identification number

To see what happens to your file between Jeddah port and Hamburg, read the customs clearance page, and download the list and invoice templates from the shipping documents page.

What may not be shipped to Germany?

We check the contents of every carton against two lists: what may not leave the Kingdom, and what may not enter the European Union or enters only with a permit. Most of what we turn back in Madinah is home-made food and medicines packed without knowing the rules:

Item Ruling Explanation or alternative
Zamzam water Not shipped It is not exported as cargo, and the traveller has a dedicated pack
Ghee, cheese, meat and dairy Prohibited in personal consignments European veterinary health rules
Plants, seedlings and seeds Need a plant health certificate Date fruit is exempt under the rules in force; palm offshoots are not
Medicines Restricted Carry your personal supply with you with its prescription
Heritage swords and daggers Restricted or prohibited German weapons law defines what is allowed, so ask before packing
Cash, gold and original documents Not placed in the shipment They stay with the traveller, who declares cash of ten thousand euros or more
Alcohol-based perfumes, aerosols and loose batteries Not shipped by air They have a sea route with suitable packing and a permit

The detailed list for each shipping method is on the prohibited items page. If something is not on it, send us a photo and we will answer before you pack it.

Delivering Madinah shipments in Berlin, Hanover and Leipzig

Delivering Madinah shipments in Berlin, Hanover and Leipzig

These three cities are close to the arrival port. Hanover is the capital of Lower Saxony and the nearest large city to Hamburg, with universities and a medical school that attract students. Berlin is the capital, with a large Arab community and many universities. Leipzig, in Saxony, is an old university city, with Halle and Chemnitz around it. We deliver to them, to their surroundings and to the rest of Germany, right inside the home:

City How the shipment reaches it Approximate distance from Hamburg
Hanover and Hildesheim Direct truck from the port About 150 km
Berlin and Potsdam Truck, or a container train to a terminal near the capital About 290 km
Leipzig and Halle Truck, or a container train then a short-haul truck About 390 km
Hamburg, Bremen and Kiel Direct from the port Within the city or under 130 km
Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Munich Container train then truck, with air freight via Frankfurt airport About 490 km to Frankfurt and 780 km to Munich

Delivery does not end when the truck stops; the card on the image reads unloading and assembly. Many of the old buildings in Berlin and Leipzig have no lift, so the crew carries the pieces up the stairs or uses an external hoist. The truck needs a temporary parking permit in front of the entrance, requested from the municipality days ahead.

  • Unloading: every piece goes to the room written on its label, not to the building’s entrance.
  • Assembly: beds, wardrobes and tables are assembled from the dismantling diagram drawn in Madinah, and the packing waste is removed.
  • Checking: the pieces are checked against the inventory number by number, and any remark is written on the delivery note before signing.

What the full service includes is on the door-to-door shipping page, and the other Saudi cities we ship from to Germany are in the article on shipping from Saudi Arabia to Germany.

Our services for individuals, companies, government bodies and embassies

Every customer on this route has a concern of their own: an individual wants intact belongings and a known price, a company a date that repeats, and an official body documentation and confidentiality. One member of staff handles each file from the first call to the delivery note:

Customer What we provide on the Madinah–Germany route
Individuals, families and students Survey, packing, shipping, clearance, unloading and assembly at the German address
Companies and date exporters Containers and part loads on regular dates, and an annual contract at an agreed price
Government bodies and universities Shipping equipment, documents and exhibition and conference material on a documented route
Embassies, consulates and attaché offices Transferred staff’s baggage and official consignments under their statutory procedures

Air freight from Madinah to Germany

Air freight from Madinah to Germany

The aircraft is the route for students’ urgent belongings, parcels and documents. Madinah has its own airport, Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport, but its direct flights to Germany are not regular under the schedules currently in force. So the shipment either takes off from it and changes aircraft at a transit airport, or goes by truck to King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah, which has direct flights to Frankfurt in about six hours. We compare the two on the booking day and choose the faster.

The shipment usually lands at Frankfurt, Germany’s largest cargo airport, and is trucked from there to Berlin in a day. Some urgent parcels arrive at Leipzig/Halle airport, one of Europe’s largest cargo airports. After clearance a courier carries them to the flat or the student hall.

Air service For Time from Madinah to the door Price starts from
Express documents Attested certificates, contracts and admission papers 2–4 days SAR 83
Parcels and suitcases to the door Students’ belongings, visitors’ gifts and dates 3–6 days SAR 23 per kilogram
Urgent freight on the first flight A spare part, medicine with its permit, a sample for a trade fair 2–3 days Set on request by the flight available
  • Urgent freight: we prepare the export declaration and the German papers before the shipment reaches the airport, so it does not spend a night waiting for a signature. It is packed the same day and booked on the first flight with space.
  • Chargeable weight: a large, light carton is charged by its volume, not its weight. Find your shipment’s chargeable weight with the volumetric weight calculator.
  • Clearance: every parcel has an electronic import declaration, and 19% VAT applies to anything that is not relieved baggage or student belongings.

Details of the service are on the air freight page, and how a shipment is handed over at Jeddah airport is explained in the article on the air freight office in Jeddah.

Collection from Madinah’s districts and governorates

We collect from all of Madinah’s districts: Aziziyah, Difa, King Fahd, Salam and Aqool, and Quba, Awali, Khalidiyah and Shuran, all of which a medium truck enters easily. Hotels around the Prophet’s Mosque get a small vehicle at the permitted time. We also collect from student housing and from the region’s governorates:

Collection point Distance from Madinah How we collect
Aziziyah, Difa, King Fahd and Salam Within the city Closed truck or container at the door
Quba, Awali, Khalidiyah, Shuran and Aqool Within the city Closed truck or container at the door
Hotels in the central area City centre A small vehicle in the hours in force, with cartons ready at reception
University student housing Within the city Numbered cartons from the housing gate by prior appointment
Yanbu About 220 km Collected there and added to the port shipment
Badr About 150 km It lies on the coast road, so it is added on the truck’s run
Khaybar and Al-Hanakiyah About 170 km and about 110 km Brought to Madinah before the departure day

If you vacate your home before your travel date or before receiving your German flat, your belongings stay in our warehouse inventoried and numbered until the day you set. The service is on the storage page.

Steps for shipping from Madinah to Germany

  1. Contact: you send us photos or a list of the belongings, your location in Madinah or its governorates, and the name of the German city.
  2. Establishing your status: student, person transferring residence, returning visitor or trader. From it we know the papers and the possible relief.
  3. Choosing the method: aircraft or ship, full or shared container, Madinah airport or Jeddah airport.
  4. Price and time: you receive a price broken down by item: the road to the port, the sea or air freight and the services in Germany, with the time to the door.
  5. Booking the vessel or flight: we book first, then set the loading day in Madinah comfortably ahead of the cut-off.
  6. Packing and loading: dismantling, wrapping, numbering and inventory, then sealing the container or handing over the collection receipt.
  7. The road and export: the shipment reaches Jeddah port or the airport, the export declaration is completed, and you receive the tracking number.
  8. Clearance and delivery: the German clearing agent takes over the file, and the shipment is moved to your address, unloaded, assembled and checked against the inventory.

Tracking and insuring the shipment

We send you a photo report before loading, then a notice at every move: leaving Madinah, entering Jeddah port, the vessel’s departure, passing through the Suez Canal, entering Hamburg, customs release and the delivery appointment. After delivery comes a second report on the condition at arrival.

  • Tracking it yourself: the container number is entered on the shipping line’s website, and the air waybill number on the airline’s. The method is on the track your shipment page.
  • Insurance: it is optional, its premium is a percentage of the value you declare, and it covers the shipment through all its stages: handling, the road leg, the sea, temporary storage and delivery.
  • For a claim to be accepted: a list with true values, photos before packing, and a remark on the delivery note at the time of receipt. Details are on the cargo insurance page.

Shipping from Germany to Madinah

The same route works in the other direction: a student who has finished studying in Berlin or Leipzig and is returning to Madinah, a hospital or hotel ordering German equipment, a trader importing spare parts. Our agent collects from the German address, and the container sails from Hamburg to Jeddah port, or the shipment flies to Jeddah or Madinah airport, then it is delivered at the home. Imports bear duty by item type and 15% value added tax, and some devices need a conformity certificate through the SABER platform. A returning scholarship holder has relief on used baggage under the rules in force.

Home Safe’s tips before shipping from Madinah to Germany

  • Settle the method before you ask for the price: what you need in the first two weeks flies, and what can wait a month sails.
  • Book at least six weeks before your travel date if your shipment goes by sea, as containers and flights fill up in the study and visiting seasons.
  • Write the list of contents yourself with a clear description: “university books” and “used winter clothes” are better than “personal items”.
  • Prepare the relief papers before the shipment moves: the admission letter for a student, and the certificate of registration of residence for a mover.

How the load is secured inside the container is explained on the packing and lashing page.

How do you choose a shipping company from Madinah to Germany?

Some of those advertising shipping to Europe in Madinah are brokers who hand your shipment to someone else in Jeddah and do not know what happens to it afterwards. Five questions show you who you are dealing with:

Question A reassuring answer An answer that should give you pause
Who takes the shipment to the port? They name the port, the departure day and the container number “We send it with any truck going to Jeddah”
Are you a registered establishment? Commercial registration, a contract and a stamped collection receipt A mobile number only and cash with no receipt
How does it get to Germany? By sea to Hamburg or by air, with a stated time A promise of a road truck arriving in a week
What about German customs? They ask about your status and your relief papers “Used items never pay customs”
Where does the price end? In writing: to the port, or inside the home with assembly A lump sum with no breakdown

Common mistakes when shipping from Madinah to Germany

  • Counting the time from the vessel’s sailing day and forgetting the day on the road to Jeddah and the days of waiting at the port.
  • Shipping a student’s cartons before the enrolment certificate is issued, so the student is asked to pay the tax or wait for the paper.
  • Sending books by air at the per-kilogram rate, when they are the heaviest and least urgent part of the shipment.
  • Putting a tin of ghee or home-made cheese among the date cartons, so the whole parcel is opened and its animal products are confiscated.
  • Shipping furniture for a student room that is already furnished, then looking for somewhere to store it.
  • Agreeing a price to the port of Hamburg in the belief that it is to the door, then paying clearance and inland transport in euros.
  • Leaving the request for collection from a hotel near the Prophet’s Mosque until the departure day, when vehicle entry hours may not allow it.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Madinah to Germany

How much does shipping from Madinah to Germany cost?

An air kilogram starts from SAR 23 and a document envelope from SAR 83. By sea, furniture in a shared container starts from SAR 5,500, a container for a whole home’s furniture from SAR 11,000, and a saloon by RoRo from SAR 2,800 to the German port. The truck road from Madinah to Jeddah port, about 420 km, is priced on request. The final figure is on 0552803439.

What is the cheapest way to ship internationally from Madinah to Germany?

The ship is cheaper for every consignment that has volume: furniture, appliances, a lot of books, a car. Someone with a few cartons books cubic metres in a shared container, and someone with a home takes a full container at one price. The aircraft only works out cheaper for a light parcel of a few kilograms.

How much does it cost to ship parcels from Madinah to Germany?

A parcel is charged by air on its chargeable weight, with the kilogram starting from SAR 23, and a small parcel has a minimum charge that we tell you once you give its weight and size. Papers alone go in an express envelope starting from SAR 83.

How long does a shipment take from Madinah to the door in Germany?

A full container takes 26 to 36 days, of which one day is to Jeddah port and 16 to 22 days are at sea as far as Hamburg. A shared container takes 30 to 40 days because it is consolidated in Jeddah and sorted in Germany. An air shipment takes 3 to 6 days.

How long does air freight take, and does it leave from Madinah airport itself?

From 3 to 6 days to the consignee’s door. Under the schedules currently in force, Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz Airport has no regular direct flights to Germany, so the shipment leaves it on a connecting flight or goes by road to Jeddah airport, which has direct flights to Frankfurt. We pick the faster on the booking day.

Madinah has no port, so where does my container sail from?

From Jeddah Islamic Port, which the truck reaches from Madinah in a day. Yanbu port is closer, about 220 km away, but we only book through it when it has a suitable sailing towards northern Europe at the time of your shipment.

Does a student pay customs on belongings in Germany?

Under the rules in force in the European Union, a student’s clothing, study materials and simple used furniture for the room are relieved, provided they are for personal use and admission or enrolment is proven. New appliances in their boxes may not be covered by the relief. We check what applies with the clearing agent before shipping.

Do the prices include customs clearance?

They do in a door-to-door service, and the contract says so. Any duties and taxes charged by German customs, however, are paid to the state and are not part of the freight. In a service to the port only, clearance falls to the consignee.

Can the shipment be tracked to the front door in Germany?

Yes. You follow it by the container number or the air waybill number on the carrier’s website, and we send you a notice at each stage up to release at Hamburg. On the last leg the German delivery driver calls you to agree the arrival time.

Can I ship Ajwa dates to my family in Germany?

Yes. Under the rules in force no plant health certificate is required for dates in the European Union, so a reasonable quantity enters with personal baggage. A commercial quantity needs a German importer and a label in German. We do not accept ghee, cheese or dried meat with them.

Do you ship a car from Madinah to Germany?

Yes. A transporter carries it to Jeddah port, then it sails on a RoRo vessel to Bremerhaven or inside a container to Hamburg. RoRo starts from SAR 2,800 for a saloon. In Germany there is 10% duty and 19% VAT except for those covered by transfer-of-residence relief, then a technical inspection before the plates.

Do you deliver to Berlin, Hanover and Leipzig?

Yes, and they are the large cities closest to the arrival port: Hanover is about 150 km from Hamburg, Berlin 290 km and Leipzig 390 km. The container reaches them by truck or container train, then the crew unloads the belongings inside the home and assembles what was dismantled.

Do you offer dedicated shipping services for companies and institutions?

Yes. For date exporters and online shops we offer part loads or containers on fixed dates, air samples and temporary storage. For government bodies and universities we ship equipment, documents and exhibition material on a documented route. Regular shippers get an annual contract at an agreed price.

Is there land freight from Madinah to Germany?

We do not operate it. The truck crosses several countries with different border posts and transit regimes, so we cannot promise you a fixed time or cost. Our route is the sea for what is measured in cubic metres and the aircraft for what cannot wait.

Which is the best shipping company from Madinah to Germany?

The one that tells you from the first call which port your container sails from and how many days it will be on the way, asks whether you are a student, a mover or a visitor before the price, and writes down where its service ends in Germany. Home Safe is an establishment with commercial registration 4030601060; it collects from Madinah and its governorates and stays with the shipment as far as your German home.
