Who ships from Jeddah to Germany, and what do they ship?
Jeddah is a city of port, trade and transit, and that shows in what leaves it for Germany. It has Germans and other Europeans working in factories, hospitals and international schools who go home with their furniture, Saudi families travelling for long periods of treatment or study, factories that export or send parts back to their suppliers, and Hajj and Umrah pilgrims from Germany who send their purchases ahead of the flight home. Each of them has a method that suits them and a different position before German customs:
| Shipper | What they ship | Best method | Status at German customs |
|---|---|---|---|
| German employee who has finished a contract in Jeddah | Household furniture, appliances and a car | 20ft or 40ft container | Transfer-of-residence relief |
| Saudi or resident moving there for work | Family baggage and selected furniture | Shared container | The same relief once residence is registered |
| Student or scholarship holder | Books, winter clothes and room items | Cartons by sea and a suitcase by air | Relief for study requisites |
| Umrah or Hajj pilgrim from Germany | Dates, prayer rugs, abayas and gifts | Air parcel or cartons by sea | A gift, or purchases that carry tax |
| Factory or trader in Jeddah | Goods, samples and parts returned to the supplier | Container for volume and air for the urgent | Duty by tariff heading and 19% tax |
The shipping route from Jeddah to Germany and its duration
A Jeddah shipment starts at the sea itself: no desert road comes before the port and no day is lost reaching it. After that the vessel heads north up the Red Sea to the Suez Canal, crosses the Mediterranean from east to west, leaves through Gibraltar into the Atlantic, and climbs to the English Channel and the North Sea, where the port of Bremerhaven lies. These are the stages of a private container and the time each takes:
| Stage | What happens | Usual time |
|---|---|---|
| Loading in Jeddah | Dismantling, packing, numbering and sealing the container | One day in most cases |
| Jeddah Islamic Port | Export declaration and handing the container to the shipping line | 3–6 days |
| Sailing | The Red Sea, then Suez, the Mediterranean, the Atlantic and the North Sea | 16–22 days |
| German clearance | Import declaration and the relief application or payment of tax | 2–5 working days |
| Delivery inside Germany | Truck or train from the port, then unloading at the address | 1–3 days |
The time changes with the shipping method. A few cartons wait for their companions in a shared container, a car boards a vessel built for vehicles, and an urgent parcel flies. These times are counted from Jeddah to the consignee’s door:
| Method | Route | Time from Jeddah | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private container | Jeddah port → Bremerhaven or Hamburg | 25–35 days | A whole home and goods in bulk |
| Shared container | Consolidated in Jeddah and sorted in a German warehouse | 30–40 days | A room or two and students’ cartons |
| RoRo for cars | Jeddah port → Bremerhaven | 25–35 days | A car that runs under its own power |
| Air | King Abdulaziz Airport → Frankfurt | 3–6 days | Parcels, documents, suitcases and samples |
What lengthens the time?
- The vessel’s route: shipping lines sometimes divert their vessels from Suez to the Cape of Good Hope, which adds one to two weeks of sailing. We tell you the actual route on the booking day.
- The residence registration paper: a container that arrives before its owner has registered a German address waits for them in the port at their expense.
- The Hajj season: before and after it, Jeddah’s port and airport are crowded, so we book space earlier than usual.
Times for the other destinations are on the transit times page.
Sea freight from Jeddah to Germany via Bremerhaven

Bremerhaven is a port at the mouth of the River Weser on the North Sea, with quays facing open water, so a vessel does not need to climb a long river to reach them. It is one of the largest container ports in northern Europe and one of the largest car ports on the whole continent. That is what makes it suit Jeddah shipments: the container and the car land in the same place, the clearing agent is the same, and the motorway and the railway start at the port gate. Between Jeddah and this coast there are regular liner services, some direct and some with transhipment at a Mediterranean port, and we choose the one that fits your loading date. Hamburg, on the River Elbe, is the alternative, and this is the difference between them:
| Comparison | Bremerhaven | Hamburg |
|---|---|---|
| Location | On the North Sea at the mouth of the Weser | Inside the River Elbe |
| What it receives from Jeddah | Containers and RoRo cars | Containers in the main |
| Nearest cities | Bremen, Hanover, Cologne and the Ruhr area | Hamburg itself, Berlin and Leipzig |
| When we choose it | For most furniture, and for every shipment with a car | When the address is in the east or the vessel schedule is sooner |
The container is a 20ft or a 40ft, yours alone or shared with others. Jeddah’s advantage here is that the empty container is pulled from the port yard to your home and returns full the same day, so the furniture is not repacked in an intermediate warehouse. The service is explained on the sea freight page, and how the port works in the article international sea freight from Jeddah.
Shipping prices from Jeddah to Germany
Nobody can be asked the price on this route until it is known what is being shipped. Whatever is weighed on the airport scale is priced per kilogram, whatever is stowed in a container with other shipments is measured by the cubic metre, whoever fills a container alone pays for all of it, and a car is priced by its size and class. Our prices from Jeddah begin at these figures:
| What you ship | Method | Price starts from |
|---|---|---|
| Parcels, suitcases and samples | Air from King Abdulaziz Airport | SAR 23 per kilogram |
| Documents up to one kilogram | Express | SAR 83 |
| Furniture and baggage | Shared container to Bremerhaven or Hamburg | SAR 5,500 |
| Furniture of a whole home | Private container | SAR 11,000 |
| Saloon car | RoRo from Jeddah port to Bremerhaven | SAR 2,800 |
| A student’s cartons | Shared box by sea | Set by the number of cartons |
| Commercial goods in a 20ft or 40ft container | Port to port or to the door | Set on request according to the vessel date |
Prices circulating in the market for this route are seldom published and far apart. Most websites give no figure and settle for phrases such as “a discount of up to 25%” or “50%” with no base price to measure against. What is actually published is the express couriers’ charge for a small parcel to Europe: between SAR 230 and SAR 500 for a parcel of one to 5 kg, arriving in 4 to 7 days. Figures of this kind also circulate: SAR 400 to 600 for a parcel up to 5 kg, SAR 600 to 1,200 for 5 to 20 kg, about SAR 5,000 for a small sea shipment, and SAR 10,000 and above for anything over a tonne.
| What sets the price | Its effect on a Jeddah shipment |
|---|---|
| Volume or weight | The cubic metre by sea and the chargeable weight by air. Estimate it with the CBM calculator |
| Scope of service | To the Bremerhaven quay, or to inside the flat with clearance and assembly |
| The German city | Hamburg and Bremen are near the port, while Munich and Stuttgart are a day’s haul further |
| The building | A high floor with no lift, or a street where a space must be reserved for the truck |
| Season | Before and after Hajj, and late summer when students travel |
How do you lower the cost?
- Book five weeks ahead of your date; space on the vessel is cheaper when it is not urgent.
- Sell in Jeddah whatever does not run on 50 hertz and whatever will not pass the German building’s staircase.
- Finish the relief paperwork before the container arrives; a day of storage charges at Bremerhaven costs more than a day in Jeddah.
- Split the shipment: two suitcases by air for your first week, and all the rest by sea.
You will find these factors explained one by one on the pricing factors page, and for the figures on containers leaving the city’s port there is the article container shipping prices from Jeddah.
What sets shipping from Jeddah apart?
Three things come together in Jeddah and in no other Saudi city on the Red Sea: the largest container port on this coast, an international airport with direct flights to German cities, and an industrial city and warehouses between the two. So a shipment moves only tens of kilometres before it is handed to the vessel or the aircraft.
- The port is south of the city centre: from northern districts such as Obhur and Al-Mohammadiyah the truck reaches it in about an hour outside rush hours.
- Truck hours: the traffic department bars large trucks from some roads at peak hours, so we set the loading time to match the hours in force that day.
- Humidity: Jeddah’s coastal air is damp and salty, and whatever is trapped in the container condenses when it reaches the cold of the North Sea. That is why we load in the early morning and fit moisture absorbers.
- The Hajj season and Ramadan: the city is the gateway to the Two Holy Mosques, and its roads and airport are crowded in both seasons, so we book the truck and the space early.
For anyone comparing the companies working in the city, see the article international shipping companies in Jeddah.
Shipping household furniture from Jeddah to Germany
The first mistake in moving a home from Jeddah to Germany is shipping the whole home. Jeddah’s villas and flats are spacious, the usual German flat is far smaller, and the staircases of its older buildings are narrow and winding. So we start by asking you about the new home’s area, its floor and the width of its door, then walk through the rooms and divide the furniture into what ships, what is sold and what goes into storage.
- The kitchen: a German flat is usually let without a kitchen, so your kitchen units and cooker may save you a large sum there if they fit the wall dimensions.
- What is left behind: the long Arabic majlis, the wardrobe that does not dismantle, air conditioners, and appliances that do not accept 50 hertz.
- Dismantling: every wardrobe and bed is taken down to panels, and its screws are collected in a bag taped to the panel they came from.
- In Germany: if the sofa will not pass the staircase it is raised by an external furniture lift through the balcony or window, which we arrange in advance.
The service is detailed on the furniture shipping page.
Loading the furniture container in Jeddah before shipping it to Germany

Loading day starts at the door of the home, not in a warehouse. The container or the closed truck stands in front of the building, the crew comes in with the packing materials, and works room by room. Every piece is wrapped and then given a number, and the number is written in the contents list with its description in English and its approximate value. When the container is full it is closed in front of you and a numbered seal is fitted, and the seal number is recorded in your papers.
- Order of the load: heavy items on the floor towards the front of the container, light cartons on top, and mirrors upright between mattresses.
- Securing: lashing straps and timber braces stop the load sliding when the vessel rolls in the Atlantic.
- Timber: every wooden crate or brace is heat-treated wood with the ISPM 15 stamp, as Germany rejects anything else.
- Moisture: absorbers hung from the container roof, and painted wood is wrapped in paper before plastic so that it does not sweat.
If your street has no room for the container, as in some districts of old central Jeddah, we load into a small closed truck and move to our warehouse near the port, where the container is stuffed and sealed in your presence or on full video. The packing method for each item is in the packing guide, and lashing techniques are on the packing and lashing page.
Transfer-of-residence relief in Germany
Germany applies the European Union’s rules on customs reliefs, among them the relief for a person moving their normal place of residence from outside the Union. The relief removes the duty and the import tax from used furniture and belongings, and from the car as well. But it is not granted automatically: it is requested from the German customs office on a form specific to removal goods, together with proof that you were living in the Kingdom and that you now live in Germany. These are its conditions in current practice, and we review those in force with you before loading:
| Condition | Detail |
|---|---|
| Previous residence | At least 12 consecutive months outside the European Union |
| Ownership and use | At least 6 months before the move, so a new item in its box is outside the relief |
| Time limit for entry | Within 12 months of the date residence is transferred |
| After entry | No selling, lending or hiring out for 12 months |
| Proof of the new residence | The residence registration certificate from the German municipality, and the tenancy or employment contract |
| Proof of the previous residence | The Saudi residence permit or final exit visa, and a tenancy contract or employer’s letter in Jeddah |
The point where many people stumble is the residence registration certificate, which is issued only once you have an actual address in Germany and attend the municipality yourself. The order we advise: the container is loaded in Jeddah a week before you travel, and you fly while it is at sea, so you register your residence and send the certificate to the clearing agent before the vessel berths.
Private container or shared container?
The question is settled by volume. A private container is booked in your name alone, filled at your home and opened at your home, and nobody touches your belongings in between. A shared container holds several people’s shipments, consolidated in a warehouse near Jeddah port and sorted in a German warehouse, and each pays for their own metres. The dividing line between them is usually about 15 cubic metres:
| Comparison | Private container | Shared container |
|---|---|---|
| You pay for | The whole container however much of it you fill | The cubic metres you occupy |
| Time from Jeddah | 25–35 days | 30–40 days |
| Handling | One seal from door to door | An extra loading and unloading at the two warehouses |
| Best for | A flat of two rooms or more, or furniture with a car | A single room, or cartons and suitcases |
| Price starts from | SAR 11,000 | SAR 5,500 |
A 20ft container is enough for a flat of two or three rooms once its furniture is dismantled, and a 40ft takes a whole home, or furniture with a car secured behind it. Internal dimensions and the payload of each type are on the container sizes page.
Shipping parcels, appliances and the baggage of students and pilgrims
Small shipments are the most numerous thing leaving Jeddah. All of them are handled closely in Germany, where customs examines every parcel arriving from outside the European Union and reads its declaration line by line.
- Price: starts from SAR 23 per kilogram by air on the chargeable weight, and a student’s cartons by sea have a price set by their number.
- A gift from one relative to another: exempt in current practice if its value is not above 45 euros, and beyond that threshold it pays import tax. The threshold changes, so we check it on the day of sending.
- Purchases: what you bought for yourself or for a shop does not count as a gift, and 19% tax is charged on it however small its value.
- A student’s baggage: used clothes, books and room items enter under the student relief, with the admission letter or university enrolment attached.
- Electronic appliances: used ones in a number that suits a family travel with the baggage, and new ones in quantity are treated as commercial goods. The German socket is round with two pins and the frequency is 50 hertz, and loose lithium batteries do not fly.
- Dates, coffee and cardamom: accepted in personal quantities in sealed packs, and dates are among the fruits for which no plant certificate is asked in current practice.
- The address: write the consignee’s name as it appears on the doorbell and the letterbox, because the German courier delivers to the written name, not the flat number.
We do not ship Zamzam water as cargo; its export is limited to the dedicated traveller’s pack carried from the airport. How to prepare a parcel is on the parcel shipping page.
Shipping commercial goods from Jeddah to Germany
Goods that enter Bremerhaven or Hamburg enter the whole European market, and once released they move between the Union’s states without customs. That is why German customs scrutinises conformity more than it scrutinises value. The German importer is the declarant and needs a European customs registration number, without which the papers are not accepted. The factories and warehouses of Jeddah’s industrial cities are a short distance from the quays, so the container is stuffed at the factory and enters the port the same day.
| Item | Shipping method | What it needs in Germany |
|---|---|---|
| Dates and date products | Dry or refrigerated container | A label in German, with the importer’s name and address |
| Processed foods | Container on pallets | Ingredient and allergen list in German, and health certificates where required |
| Perfumes, oud and cosmetics | Sea, and air under the flammables restrictions | A responsible person inside the Union and a product file |
| Electrical products and toys | Sea or air | Conformity with European standards and their mark |
| Parts and machines returned to their maker for repair | Air for the urgent, and sea for the heavy | Papers proving they are returning for repair, not for sale |
Details are on the commercial shipping page, and for large equipment see the heavy equipment shipping page.
Car shipping from Jeddah to Germany
More than a million cars pass through Bremerhaven a year, and the RoRo vessels that serve the Red Sea berth there. So a car leaving Jeddah needs no complicated route: it enters the port, is driven into the vessel’s hold, and comes off driven onto the German quay. The alternative is a closed container for anyone who wants more protection or is shipping furniture with it:
| Method | How it works | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| RoRo | Driven onto the vessel and lashed by the wheels, shipped empty of belongings | A running car, and it is the lowest cost |
| 20ft container | Secured with straps and timber chocks, then the container is sealed | Luxury and classic cars and those whose engine does not run |
| 40ft container | The car at the front and furniture behind a timber bulkhead, or two cars | A family moving with its home and its car |
RoRo starts from SAR 2,800 for a saloon from Jeddah port, with four-wheel drives and small trucks higher because the charge is by size. Before handover we ask for a quarter tank of fuel, a car washed underneath, and no personal belongings inside. We photograph it from all four sides and record the odometer reading. The two methods are compared on the RoRo car shipping and container car shipping pages.
Shipping is the easiest link in the journey. After the quay, 10% customs duty and then 19% import tax are paid on the value plus the freight, except for a car that came in under the removal relief after its owner had owned and used it for six months. Then a car arriving from outside Europe goes through a full technical inspection at an approved inspection body, which reviews the lamps, exhaust, tyres and manufacturer data, and may require modifications to a Gulf-specification car. We review whatever is in force of all this before booking, and the general conditions are in the article car shipping from Saudi Arabia.
German customs and the documents required
German customs works from the paper before it opens anything. An accurate declaration and complete attachments mean release in two days, and a vague list means a manual examination and storage charges. The general rule for anyone without a relief: a duty by tariff heading, then 19% import tax on the value plus freight, insurance and duty. This is what each shipment needs:
| Type of shipment | Documents | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Furniture and belongings of a person moving residence | Passport, the relief application form, contents list, residence registration certificate, proof of residence in the Kingdom, and bill of lading | The list in English or German, and numbered |
| A student’s baggage | Passport and visa, admission or enrolment letter, and contents list | The accommodation address and the consignee’s name as on the doorbell |
| Commercial goods | Invoice for the goods, packing list, sea or air waybill, origin certificate, and the German importer’s European customs registration | Conformity or health certificates according to the item |
| Car | Registration document, export certificate and export plates, passport, and purchase invoice | The chassis number matching on every paper |
| Parcel or gift | Sender’s ID, and a declaration of the items and the value of each | A German mobile number and an email address for the consignee |
On the Kingdom’s side we issue the export declaration at Jeddah port or the airport cargo village, and for a resident leaving for good we ask for a copy of the residence permit and the exit visa. Each paper is explained on the shipping documents page, and the stages of release on the customs clearance page.
What cannot be shipped to Germany or needs a permit
What is most often held from Jeddah shipments is not the dangerous prohibited item but ordinary food. A tin of local ghee, labneh, or dried meat in the kitchen carton are all animal products that do not enter the European Union from outside it in baggage and parcels. We go through the list with you during packing, and these are its main entries:
| Item | Rule |
|---|---|
| Meat, dairy, ghee, cheese, and honey in quantity | Banned in personal baggage and parcels, or tightly restricted |
| Medicines | A personal-use quantity with a prescription, and narcotic ones with a permit |
| Plants, seedlings, seeds and soil | With a phytosanitary certificate |
| Weapons, flick knives and sharp daggers | Banned, or with a German licence |
| Counterfeit goods | Confiscated, and a fine may be imposed |
| Alcohol-based perfumes and pressurised containers | Shipped by air only with a dangerous goods declaration, and accepted by sea in personal quantities |
| Cash of 10,000 euros or more, gold and original documents | Not placed in the shipment, and cash is declared by the traveller |
For the general list, open the prohibited items page. And when you cannot decide about something, photograph it for us while its carton is still open.
Delivering shipments from Jeddah in Hamburg, Cologne and Stuttgart

After release the shipment moves inland from the port by truck, or by train and then truck over long distances. Three cities receive most of what leaves Jeddah: Hamburg in the north, a city of trade and port like Jeddah; Cologne in the west, along with Bonn and Düsseldorf, where large Arab communities live and university hospitals are many; and Stuttgart in the south-west, along with its industrial suburbs such as Sindelfingen, Esslingen and Ludwigsburg. These are the cities’ distances from Bremerhaven and what to watch for in each:
| City | Distance from Bremerhaven | Delivery note |
|---|---|---|
| Bremen | About 65 km | The nearest large city, with delivery on the day of release or the next |
| Hamburg | About 180 km | Old buildings with narrow staircases in the central districts, and a parking space reserved with the municipality |
| Cologne, Düsseldorf and Bonn | 330–400 km | A low-emission zone in their centres, so the delivery truck needs the green sticker |
| Berlin | About 440 km | Closer to Hamburg, so we route its container there if the schedule fits |
| Frankfurt | About 500 km | The air-cargo hub, where a parcel is delivered on the day of release |
| Stuttgart and its suburbs | About 690 km | Sloping streets on the hills, and a smaller truck for some addresses |
| Munich and Nuremberg | 650–830 km | A day of haulage is added, and the train is an option for a full container |
Delivery with us is clearance, then transport, then unloading inside the flat. A removal truck in Germany cannot stop in front of the building wherever it likes, so a temporary parking reservation is requested from the municipality one to two weeks before the date, and its signs go up days ahead. So send us the address with the postcode and the floor, whether the building has a lift, and a photograph of the entrance and staircase if possible. Our destination network is on the shipping destinations page.
Services for individuals, companies, government bodies and embassies
The shipment looks the same and differs in what its owner asks of it. A family wants a price with clear items and someone to carry the procedure for them. A company wants a date that is kept, a tax invoice and a report. Jeddah has all of these, as the city holds ministry branches, consulates general and the largest companies:
| Client | What they need | What we provide |
|---|---|---|
| Individuals and families | Moving a home or baggage without daily follow-up | A survey, an itemised price, and one coordinator from Jeddah to the German door |
| Companies and factories | Repeat shipments and orderly papers | A periodic contract, collection from the factory, and a tax invoice for each shipment |
| Government bodies and universities | Exhibition equipment, laboratory devices and printed matter | Commitment to the event date, and return of whatever comes back afterwards on temporary admission papers |
| Embassies and consulates | Baggage of transferred staff and official correspondence | Coordination with the administrative section, loading by appointment, and a file that respects the consignee’s status |
Air freight from Jeddah to Germany

King Abdulaziz Airport is in the north of Jeddah, with direct flights to Frankfurt and Munich that cover the distance in about six hours. Frankfurt is the largest cargo airport in Germany, and from it parcels are distributed by truck to the cities within a day. The time from your district in Jeddah to the German address is 3 to 6 days, most of it for clearance rather than flying.
- Who it is for: parcels and urgent shipments, documents, the suitcases of students and patients, commercial samples, and spare parts a production line depends on.
- Calculation: you pay for the larger figure: what the scale records, or what comes from multiplying the carton’s three dimensions in centimetres and dividing by 6000. The volumetric weight calculator works it out for you.
- Price: a kilogram from SAR 23, and the heavier the shipment, the lower its per-kilogram rate. A document envelope of no more than one kilogram from SAR 83.
- Delivery: to the address against the consignee’s signature, or to Frankfurt Airport for anyone with a clearing agent there.
- What does not fly: loose lithium batteries, alcohol-based perfumes in quantity, pressurised containers, and anything flammable.
To find out where and how to hand in your shipment at the airport, read the article air freight office in Jeddah; everything else about the service is on the air freight page.
Air or sea, and is there land freight to Germany?
Choosing between the aircraft and the vessel is a simple sum: by air you pay for every kilogram, and by sea for every cubic metre. So whatever is light and small or urgent flies, and whatever is big sails.
| Comparison | Air | Sea |
|---|---|---|
| Time from Jeddah | 3–6 days | 25–40 days |
| Point of departure | King Abdulaziz Airport | Jeddah Islamic Port |
| Unit of charge | The kilogram on the chargeable weight | The cubic metre or the container |
| Price starts from | SAR 23 per kilogram | SAR 5,500 for a shared container |
As for land freight, we do not rely on it to Germany. The road from the Kingdom crosses several countries and many borders before it reaches Europe, and a sea container arrives sealed at lower cost and lower risk. Road transport with us is limited to what happens inside the two countries, from your home to Jeddah port and from the German port to the address. The full comparison is on the shipping methods comparison page, and the service is explained on the door-to-door shipping page.
Collection from Jeddah’s districts and nearby towns
We collect from every district of Jeddah, north, south and east. The crew brings the packing materials to North and South Obhur, Al-Shati, Al-Mohammadiyah and Al-Naeem, to Al-Rawdah, Al-Zahra, Al-Salamah, Al-Khalidiyah and Al-Hamra, to Al-Safa, Al-Faisaliyah, Al-Samer and Al-Hamdaniyah, and to Al-Balad and its surroundings. We also collect from the surrounding towns and governorates, whose shipments join the run to Jeddah port:
| Place | Distance from Jeddah | How we collect |
|---|---|---|
| Districts of north and central Jeddah | Inside the city | Loading from the door, with the container at the home if the street allows |
| Al-Balad and the old districts | Inside the city | A small vehicle to our warehouse, then the container |
| Makkah | About 80 km | From homes and hotels, at times that match the truck entry hours |
| Thuwal and its university | About 80 km north | The belongings of researchers and professors returning to Europe |
| Rabigh and its economic city | 120–150 km | Brought in a day before sailing |
| Taif | About 170 km | A closed truck down to the Jeddah warehouse |
For anyone who has to hand over their home before their travel date, we store the furniture packed and inventoried until they authorise loading, on the terms set out on the storage page. All the cities we cover are on the service cities page.

- Clearance and delivery: the agent lodges the declaration, reserves the parking space, and delivers inside the home against a signed receipt.
Tracking and insuring the shipment
Between sealing the container in Jeddah and opening it in Germany there is about a month in which you do not see your belongings. Two things reassure you in that month: knowing where they are, and knowing what happens if they are damaged. Tracking provides the first and insurance the second.
- Sea tracking: by the container or bill of lading number on the shipping line’s website, which shows the transhipment port if there is one.
- Air tracking: by the air waybill number on the carrier’s website, updated at every airport. The method is on the track your shipment page.
- Insurance: optional, covering loss and damage from the Jeddah door to the German door on the values written in the list.
- Claims: if you find damage, write it on the delivery sheet before the crew leaves, and photograph the piece and its carton. The remaining terms are on the cargo insurance page.
Shipping from Germany to Jeddah
The route works in both directions, and what comes from Germany to Jeddah is mostly goods rather than furniture: car spare parts, factory equipment, medical devices, and individuals’ purchases from German shops. Our agent collects from any German city and combines what you bought from more than one seller into a single shipment.
- By air: from Frankfurt to King Abdulaziz Airport, delivered in your district after clearance.
- By sea: from Bremerhaven or Hamburg to Jeddah Islamic Port, in a private or shared container.
- At the Kingdom’s customs: what its owner brings back used is cleared as personal effects, what is new pays the duty for its item plus 15% value added tax, and goods under the technical regulations go onto the SABER platform first.

Tips before shipping from Jeddah to Germany
- Define your shipment precisely before asking for a price: how many pieces of furniture, how many cartons, and whether a car or appliances go with it.
- Choose the method by volume, not by habit: under 100 kg by air, and over two cubic metres by sea.
- Ask the landlord of the German flat for the width of the door and the staircase before you decide what to ship.
- Write the contents list in English or German, with each entry’s value as a used item, not its purchase price.
- Keep your Jeddah tenancy contract and electricity bills; they are your evidence of the previous residence.
How do you choose a shipping company from Jeddah to Germany?
Shipping offices in Jeddah are many, and plenty of them ship to Germany once a year. The difference between one who knows the route and one who does not shows in their questions before it shows in their price. Ask these questions and compare the answers:
| What you ask about | A reassuring answer | A worrying answer |
|---|---|---|
| Legal status | Commercial registration, a contract and a stamped collection receipt | A transfer to a personal account with no paper |
| Port of arrival | Names Bremerhaven or Hamburg and gives the reason | “To Germany” with no port named |
| The relief | Asks about residence registration and how long you lived in the Kingdom | “Used goods never carry customs” |
| Duration | Separates the sailing days from the time to the door | “Two weeks and it is with you” |
| After the German quay | A known agent, with clearance, transport and unloading in the price | “Collection from the port” in a small line |
Common mistakes when shipping from Jeddah to Germany
- Shipping the container and then postponing travel, so it arrives before its owner and nobody registers the residence.
- Putting tins of ghee, cheese or honey in quantity in the kitchen cartons.
- Shipping a washing machine or air conditioner that does not run on 50 hertz.
- Writing “household goods” in the list instead of naming each carton.
- Buying new appliances before travel and slipping them in their boxes among the used furniture.
- Shipping a Gulf car without asking the German inspection centre about its modifications.
- Forgetting to reserve the truck’s parking space, so delivery is postponed and an extra day’s hire is paid.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Jeddah to Germany
What is the best shipping company from Jeddah to Germany?
The best one asks you three things before quoting: your status with German customs, the delivery address with its floor and staircase, and whether you have registered your residence there. Home Safe is an establishment with commercial registration 4030601060; it loads at your home in Jeddah, books the vessel from the city’s own port, and delivers inside the German flat through an agent who handles clearance.
What is the cheapest way to ship from Jeddah to Germany?
Sea is always cheaper than air for anything measured in cubic metres. If your shipment is under 15 cubic metres it belongs in a shared container, where you pay only for your volume, starting from SAR 5,500. If it is a whole home, a private container is cheaper per metre.
How much does it cost to send a parcel from Jeddah to Germany?
A parcel is charged per kilogram on the chargeable weight, starting from SAR 23 per kilogram out of King Abdulaziz Airport, and a small parcel has a minimum charge that we tell you on request. Express documents start from SAR 83.
How do I track my shipment from Jeddah to Germany?
Sea freight is tracked by the container number or the bill of lading number on the shipping line’s website, and air freight by the eleven-digit air waybill number on the carrier’s website. Even so, we do not leave you to the websites: you get a message from us when the container leaves the Jeddah port gate, when it transits Suez, when it berths at Bremerhaven, on release, and the day before delivery.
How long does a shipment take from Jeddah to Germany?
A private container takes 25 to 35 days from your door in Jeddah to the door of the German address, of which 16 to 22 days are at sea when the vessel uses the Suez Canal. A shared container takes 30 to 40 days. Air freight takes 3 to 6 days. We confirm the vessel’s route and timing on the booking day because some lines change their routing.
Which German port does my container arrive at?
Bremerhaven is the port we build most Jeddah shipments around, because it receives both containers and car carriers and opens directly onto the North Sea. Hamburg is the alternative when the line’s schedule to it is sooner or your address is in the north-east or Berlin.
Do I pay customs on my used furniture in Germany?
The answer depends on why it is entering. Someone who has come to live in Germany, having lived outside the European Union for a full year or more and used the belongings for half a year before moving, brings them in free of duty and tax if they arrive within 12 months of the move; that is current practice. Furniture the relief does not cover pays the duty for its item and 19% import tax.
Can I ship the furniture before I register my residence in Germany?
The container can sail while you are still in Jeddah, but releasing it under the relief needs the residence registration certificate from the German city. So we time the shipment for the container to arrive a week or two after you travel, by which point you have registered your address and handed the paper to the clearing agent.
Do you ship a car from Jeddah to Germany?
Yes. The car enters Jeddah Islamic Port driven or on a transporter, and ships on a RoRo vessel to Bremerhaven or inside a container. RoRo starts from SAR 2,800 for a saloon. After arrival, 10% duty and 19% tax are paid unless it is covered by the mover’s relief, and then it goes through a full technical inspection before it carries a German plate.
Is a Gulf-specification car accepted at the German inspection?
It is accepted after modifications in most cases. The full inspection of a car arriving from outside Europe reviews the lamps, exhaust emissions and manufacturer data, and a Gulf car may need parts that cost more than the sea freight. That is why we ask for the make and year of manufacture before booking.
Will my electrical appliances work in Germany?
The voltage is the same in both countries, 230 volts, but the German socket is round with two pins and the frequency is 50 hertz, not 60. Chargers, computers and televisions work with a simple plug adaptor. As for the washing machine, the air conditioner and anything with a motor, read the label; if it does not say 50/60 hertz, selling it in Jeddah is cheaper than shipping it.
What should I not put in my cartons bound for Germany?
Meat, dairy, ghee and cheese, even in factory tins, medicines beyond your personal need or without a prescription, counterfeit goods, flick knives and the like, and plants and seeds without a certificate. We do not ship Zamzam water as cargo.
Do you deliver to cities other than Hamburg, Cologne and Stuttgart?
Yes, to every German city: Berlin, Leipzig and Dresden in the east, Frankfurt and Mannheim in the centre, Munich and Nuremberg in Bavaria, Düsseldorf, Dortmund, Essen and Bonn in the west, and Bremen and Hanover in the north. The truck or the train leaves from the port, and the furthest address is reached two to three days after release.
Is insurance included in the shipping price?
No, it is a separate item that you choose, calculated as a percentage of the value you write against each piece in the contents list. We consider it necessary for a furniture container and for a car, because the shipping line’s compensation is limited by the weight of the goods, not their price.
Do you collect shipments from Germany to Jeddah?
Yes. The agent collects from the home, shop or factory in any German city, and the goods ship by air to King Abdulaziz Airport or by sea to Jeddah Islamic Port. A returnee’s used belongings enter as personal effects, and new goods carry a duty by item and 15% value added tax.
