Who ships from Mecca to Germany, and what do they ship?

The line between Makkah and Germany has customers you will not find in any other city. Germany has a large Muslim community, a wide part of it concentrated in the Rhine and Ruhr cities such as Düsseldorf, Dortmund and Duisburg; from there Umrah and Hajj pilgrims come all year round and go home with dates, rugs and gifts that no suitcase can hold. In Makkah there are residents moving to Germany after their working years, students, patients’ companions, and traders in dates and prayer supplies. Each has a shipping method and a customs treatment:

Shipper What they usually ship Best method Status at German customs
Umrah or Hajj pilgrim living in Germany Dates, prayer rugs, abayas and gifts Cartons by air, or by sea in a shared container Gifts and personal items assessed at their value
Resident moving from Makkah to Germany Home furniture, appliances and a car 20ft or 40ft container Transfer-of-residence relief under its conditions
Student or scholarship holder Books, winter clothes and room supplies Cartons in a shared container and one bag by air Relief for students’ effects with proof of admission
Companion of a patient under treatment Clothes and light household items Air Used personal effects
Makkah trader and exporter Dates, prayer supplies and oil perfumes Part load or container, samples by air Duty by tariff heading and 19% VAT

That is why we ask you first: what is your status in Germany? The answer decides the method, the paperwork and the tax.

Shipping route from Mecca to Germany and its transit time

A sea shipment passes six stations between your district in Makkah and the consignee’s door in Germany, and the ship’s days at sea take only about two thirds of the time. The rest goes on packing, waiting for the sailing date, German clearance and inland transport. Makkah’s closeness to the port cuts the first stage to hours, something the cities of central Saudi Arabia do not have. This is the breakdown of a full container’s journey:

Stage What happens Usual duration
Packing and loading in Makkah Dismantling, packing, numbering and an inventory 1–2 days
Transport to Jeddah port About 80 km on the motorway The same day
Export and waiting for the vessel Export declaration and handing the container to the shipping line 3–5 days
Sailing Suez, then the Mediterranean, Gibraltar and the North Sea 16–22 days
Clearance at the German port Import declaration and the relief application or payment of tax 2–3 working days
Transport inside Germany and delivery Rail or truck to the city, then unloading 2–3 days

The other methods have their own arithmetic: a shared container adds days at the start and the end of the journey, and an aircraft folds the whole trip into less than a week.

Method Route Time from Makkah to the door Suits
Full container Makkah → Jeddah port → Hamburg 25–35 days A whole home’s furniture and wholesale goods
Sea part load Shared container sorted in a Hamburg warehouse 30–40 days Cartons, baggage and one or two rooms
RoRo for cars Transporter to Jeddah, then a car carrier to Bremerhaven 25–35 days A car that runs under its own power
Air Jeddah airport → Frankfurt 3–6 days Bags, parcels, documents and samples

What lengthens the transit time?

  • Transhipment: in some periods the vessels running between Asia and Europe do not call at Jeddah, so the container goes by feeder to a hub port on the Mediterranean and then onto the northbound ship. We tell you on the booking day whether the voyage is direct or with a change.
  • The Hajj season and late Ramadan: truck entry to Makkah tightens, so the loading day slips if it is not booked early.
  • Late address registration: the German relief needs a registered address, and a container that arrives before its owner waits in the port.
  • A vague list: a carton marked only “items” gets opened for inspection.

Times for the other destinations are on the transit times page.

From Mecca via Jeddah port to Hamburg and Bremerhaven

From Mecca via Jeddah port to Hamburg and Bremerhaven

Everything that leaves Makkah by sea sails from Jeddah Islamic Port: it is the nearest, and the largest port on the Red Sea. From there the ship heads north to the Suez Canal, crosses the Mediterranean from east to west, leaves through the Strait of Gibraltar into the Atlantic, then runs up the coast of Europe and enters the English Channel and the North Sea. The distance is about 4,100 nautical miles, which container ships cover in 16 to 22 days.

On the German coast two ports receive this line’s shipments, each with its own role. Hamburg is not directly on the sea but on the River Elbe, about 110 km from its mouth; it is Germany’s largest container port and has the part-load sorting warehouses. Bremerhaven is at the mouth of the River Weser on the North Sea; it is one of Europe’s largest car ports and has long container quays. We choose between them by the type of your shipment, the shipping line’s schedule and the consignee’s city:

Comparison Hamburg Bremerhaven
Location On the River Elbe in the north At the mouth of the Weser on the North Sea
What we send there Furniture and goods containers and part loads Cars by RoRo, and containers of some lines
Serves mostly The north, Berlin, the east and Bavaria by rail The north-west and the Rhine and Ruhr cities
Onward transport Container train to an inland terminal, then a truck Car transporter, or rail and truck for containers

After release comes the stage shown on the image card: then by rail or truck. Germany moves a large share of its port containers by railway to inland terminals in Dortmund, Duisburg, Nuremberg, Munich and elsewhere, and from the terminal a truck carries the box to the street over a short distance. A direct truck from the port suits the nearer cities and part loads spread over several addresses. Each port is introduced on the ports and gateways page.

Shipping prices from Mecca to Germany

The price on this line is made up of four parts: transport from Makkah to the port or airport, then the vessel or aircraft freight, then transport inside Germany, then unloading and assembly if you ask for them. The first part is small because Makkah is close to Jeddah, but it changes with the district, the entry hours and whether the street needs a small vehicle, so we do not put a single figure on it. These are the prices our services start from:

What you ship Method Price starts from
Parcels, bags and samples Air via Jeddah airport SAR 23 per kilogram
Documents Express SAR 83
Furniture and baggage Part load in a shared container SAR 5,500
A whole home’s furniture Full container SAR 11,000
Saloon car RoRo to Bremerhaven SAR 2,800
Pilgrims’ and students’ cartons Per carton in a shared container Set on request by number and size of cartons
Transport from Makkah to Jeddah port or airport Closed truck or car transporter Set on request by district and volume

Market prices on the Germany line are far apart. Air freight for personal parcels is offered at SAR 28 to 35 per kilogram up to 50 kilograms, falling to about SAR 24 for larger weights, and at SAR 18 to 22 for more than 100 kilograms. Sea part loads are offered at SAR 950 to 1,400 per cubic metre, a 20ft container at SAR 9,500 to 12,000 and a 40ft container at SAR 15,000 to 19,000. You will also find the ocean freight alone, port to port, offered at the equivalent of SAR 2,250 to 5,600 for a 20ft container, with no collection from Makkah, no clearance and no transport inside Germany. So ask where each figure ends before you compare. We fix your price on the booking day because container freight moves, as explained in the article container shipping prices from Jeddah.

What sets the price Its effect on the Makkah–Germany line
Method A shared container for a little, a full one for a home, and air the highest freight per kilogram
Volume or weight By cubic metre at sea and by chargeable weight in the air. Estimate it with the CBM calculator
Your district in Makkah A narrow or steep street means a small vehicle and an extra run to the truck
Loading date The days of Hajj and late Ramadan are dearer and harder to book than the rest of the year
The German city Nuremberg and Munich are farther from the port than Dortmund and Bremen
Delivery in the building The floor, the lift and the parking permit for the truck at the entrance

How do you cut the cost?

  • Pool your Umrah purchases with your companions in one sea shipment instead of scattered air parcels.
  • If your furniture approaches 15 cubic metres, ask for a 20ft container price and compare it with the part load.
  • Load at least two weeks before or after the Hajj season.
  • Register your address in Germany before the container arrives, as port storage is charged by the day.

All the pricing items are on the pricing factors page.

What is distinctive about shipping from Makkah?

Loading in Makkah has rules imposed by the city itself. It has neither a port nor an airport, so every international shipment begins by going down to Jeddah. Large trucks do not enter whenever they like, but in hours regulated by the authorities that tighten in Ramadan and the Hajj season. Many districts are built on the mountain slopes, so a container cannot reach the door. And part of its shipments are collected from hotels rather than homes. We arrange these matters before the loading day so that they do not surprise you during it:

Situation in Makkah Its effect on a Germany shipment How we act
No port and no airport Sea from Jeddah port and air from its airport We move the shipment to Jeddah on the collection day
Truck entry hours The loading time is tied to them We confirm the hours in force and fix the slot days ahead
Hillside districts and alleys The container does not stop at the door A small vehicle carries the pieces to a truck on the nearest wide street
The Hajj season and late Ramadan Tighter limits on movement We load before the season or keep the goods in the warehouse until after it
Staying in a hotel No room for lengthy packing We collect the cartons ready from reception against a receipt

If the container cannot enter your street, the pieces leave packed and numbered in a closed truck, are stowed in the container at our warehouse near the port, and you receive footage of the stuffing and the seal number before it is handed to the shipping line.

Moving furniture from Mecca to Germany

Moving furniture from Mecca to Germany

Furniture travelling from Makkah to Germany spends about three weeks on a sea whose weather shifts from the heat of the Red Sea to the cold and damp of the North Sea, is then lifted onto a train or truck, and then climbs the stairs of a German building that may have no lift. We start with the majlis and soft furnishings because they are the bulkiest things in a Makkah home, we divide the kitchen cartons on the inside, and we load inside the container in an order that prevents movement. This is how each category is packed:

Item Packing Note specific to Germany
Arabic majlis, sofas and soft furnishings Thick polythene then blankets, with cushions in vacuum bags Measure the length of the seating against the German living room before shipping it
Bedrooms and wardrobes Dismantled with numbered panels, corners in reinforced cardboard, and screws in a bag taped to the piece A dismantled wardrobe gets up a narrow staircase
Kitchenware, glass and china Cartons divided on the inside, each piece in paper then foam German flats are mostly let without a kitchen, so cookware and appliances are needed
Fridge, washing machine and oven Moving parts secured, shock-absorbing padding and a wooden crate for the delicate Check the label: 50 Hz and the European socket
Carpets Rolled and covered in moisture-proof polythene with desiccant bags A hand-made carpet is listed separately with its value
Commercial goods On pallets strapped down and covered in stretch film The wood is treated and carries the international stamp

Loading inside the container is a craft of its own. The heavy and flat goes at the bottom and against the front wall, the cartons above it, mattresses and cushions fill the gaps, and the rows are then strapped to the container’s lashing rings. Every piece carries a number matched by a line in the inventory written in Arabic and English, and that is the same list presented to German customs.

The service is described on the furniture shipping page, and packing methods are detailed in the packing guide.

Full container or part load?

Volume settles the decision first, then time. The furniture of a two-bedroom flat in Makkah usually fills a 20ft container, and a large house with its majlis and kitchen needs a 40ft. Anything below that, cartons, baggage and a few pieces, travels in a container you share with other shippers to Germany. The difference between the two methods is not in price alone:

Comparison Full container Part load
For whom A whole home, or furniture with a car Pilgrims’ and students’ cartons, and one or two rooms
Charging A fixed price for the container whatever you load By the cubic metres you occupy
Time to the door 25–35 days 30–40 days
Handling Sealed in Makkah or at our warehouse and opened at the consignee’s Consolidated in Jeddah and sorted in a German warehouse
Price starts from SAR 11,000 for a home’s furniture SAR 5,500

When the volume sits on the line between the two methods, we cost both for you. A full container is about a week quicker and is handled fewer times. Container dimensions and capacities are on the container sizes page, and both methods are explained on the sea freight page.

Shipping the baggage of Umrah and Hajj pilgrims returning to Germany

Someone who comes from Germany for Umrah or Hajj goes back with a weight the airline will not take without a steep charge: cartons of dates, prayer rugs, abayas and thobes, prayer beads, copies of the Quran and gifts for family and the mosque. The answer is to travel light and let the purchases follow to their city.

  • Collection: from the hotel reception or the luggage room, against a receipt showing the number of pieces, the owner’s name and passport number.
  • A tag for each pilgrim: in groups, every carton gets a numbered tag with its owner’s name, German address and phone number there, and each share is cleared in its owner’s name.
  • Air or sea? A single carton and awaited gifts go by air from SAR 23 per kilogram. A family’s or a whole group’s baggage goes by sea in a shared container.
  • What does not go in the carton: Zamzam water, ghee and cheese, gold and cash, passports, and medicines you need on the way.
  • The name on the bell: delivery in Germany is made to the name written on the letterbox and the flat’s doorbell, so write it as it appears there.

Gifts sent from one private person to another have a small relief limit at German customs under the rules in force, and import VAT is charged on what exceeds it. So we write the true value of each carton, and we split the shipment among its owners by name instead of registering all of it in the group leader’s name.

Shipping parcels and students’ baggage from Mecca to Germany

A small parcel goes by air. It leaves Makkah for Jeddah airport, reaches Frankfurt or one of the express sorting hubs, and is then delivered by courier to the address. German customs handles every parcel from outside the European Union with an electronic declaration, so no parcel gets through with an incomplete description. A student’s case is different: their books, winter clothes and room items are too heavy to fly in full, so they split them between an air bag and sea cartons.

  • The declaration: a description of each item, its quantity and value in English, with the consignee’s phone number and email so the customs notice reaches them.
  • Students: study supplies, clothes and the simple furnishings of their room are relieved under the rules in force if they prove admission or enrolment at the university.
  • Timing for students: hand over the sea cartons six weeks before you travel so they arrive at the start of term.
  • What does not fly: alcohol-based perfumes, aerosols and loose batteries, which have a sea route with the right declaration.

The service is described on the parcel shipping page.

Shipping commercial goods from Mecca to Germany

Makkah’s trade with Germany rests on what Muslims there ask for: dates of every kind, prayer rugs and beads, abayas and thobes, oil perfumes and incense, copies of the Quran and books. A commercial shipment enters Germany in the name of an importer holding a European customs identification number, and is charged import VAT of 19%, or 7% on most foodstuffs under the rules in force, plus a duty set by the item’s tariff heading.

  • Dates and foodstuffs: a label in German with the ingredients, weight, best-before date and the importer’s name, who answers for them to the authorities.
  • Incense and oud: some agarwood is covered by the endangered species convention and needs a certificate from the exporting country. We review the item before accepting it.
  • Perfumes: alcohol-free oils are easier to ship, while alcohol-based ones are classed as flammable.
  • Documents: commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading and certificate of origin.

We agree the delivery term with you from the outset: to the German port, or cleared to the buyer’s warehouse. Details are on the commercial shipping page.

Car shipping from Mecca to Germany

The car leaves Makkah on a transporter for Jeddah port, where it has two routes. On a RoRo vessel the car drives aboard on its own wheels and comes off at Bremerhaven; this is the cheaper way and starts from SAR 2,800 for a saloon. In a container the car is secured with straps and chocks and reaches Hamburg, which suits a luxury or classic car and anyone shipping furniture with it in a 40ft box. The shipping is the easy part; the real reckoning starts at German customs and then at the inspection.

  • Charges: 10% customs duty on the car’s value plus its freight, then 19% import VAT on the total, unless transfer-of-residence relief applies.
  • The relief: it covers the mover’s car if it is in their name and they have used it for at least six months, and it may not be sold for a year after entry.
  • Technical inspection: a Gulf-specification car goes through a full inspection at an approved body before registration, and changes to lighting and exhaust may be required.
  • Preparation before shipping: the car cleaned inside and underneath, no more than a quarter of a tank of fuel, and no personal items inside on RoRo.
  • Emissions sticker: the centres of many cities, Düsseldorf and Dortmund among them, are zones that no car enters without the green sticker.

Before you decide to ship a Gulf-specification car, send us its model and year of manufacture, as the cost of modifying it may exceed its freight. Both methods are on the RoRo car shipping and container car shipping pages, and the general conditions are in the article car shipping from Saudi Arabia.

German customs and the documents required

Germany applies the European Union’s customs rules, and the most important of them for a furniture owner is transfer-of-residence relief. Anyone moving their normal home from Makkah to Germany brings in their used furniture and effects free of duty and import VAT, on an application submitted to customs with the list of contents. Anyone who does not meet the conditions, or ships new goods in their boxes, pays 19% VAT and duty by item type. The conditions in force:

  • Previous residence: at least 12 continuous months outside the European Union.
  • Use: the items are yours and you used them for at least six months before moving.
  • Time limit: they enter within 12 months of the date of your move, and may precede you under conditions.
  • No disposal: they are not sold, let or lent for 12 months after release.
  • What it excludes: tobacco and alcoholic drinks, commercial vehicles, and non-portable tools of trade.

A bride moving to her husband who lives in Germany has a specific relief for marriage goods under the rules in force, with proof of the marriage contract and a set period around its date. We review which of these conditions apply with the German broker before the container is closed.

Document Who needs it Note
Copy of passport and German visa or residence permit Every shipper The name matches the consignee’s name on the bill of lading
Numbered list of contents Every shipment In English or German, with an estimated value per line
Certificate of address registration in Germany Person transferring residence Issued by the residents’ office once the address is taken
Proof of previous residence in Saudi Arabia Person transferring residence The iqama and final exit visa, or the job contract and tenancy
Application for relief on removal goods Person transferring residence The German customs form, completed with you by the broker
Car registration and export certificate Car shipper The original, not a copy
Commercial invoice and certificate of origin Trader With the importer’s customs identification number

The procedures are explained on the customs clearance page, and sample papers are on the shipping documents page.

What may not be shipped to Germany?

The prohibited falls into two kinds: what Saudi Arabia bars from leaving, and what Germany and the European Union bar or restrict from entering. What most often stops Makkah shipments is food items that their owners put among the clothes in good faith. The table gathers what we see recurring:

Item Ruling Reason or alternative
Zamzam water Not shipped Its export is prohibited, and the traveller carries the dedicated pack with them
Meat, dairy, ghee and cheese Prohibited in personal shipments European veterinary health rules
Plants, seeds and soil Restricted, with a plant health certificate Dates are exempt from it under the rules in force
Medicines Restricted Carry your personal supply with its prescription, and do not send it in a parcel
Daggers, swords and certain knives Restricted or prohibited German weapons law defines the types, so ask before packing
Tobacco and shisha molasses Subject to a special tax They are not covered by the baggage relief
Cash and gold Not placed in the shipment The traveller carries them and declares ten thousand euros or more
Flammables and loose lithium batteries Prohibited by air Shipped by sea with a declaration and special packing

The full list by shipping method is on the prohibited items page. If you are unsure about an item, send its photo before packing.

Delivering Mecca shipments in Düsseldorf, Dortmund and Nuremberg

Delivering Mecca shipments in Düsseldorf, Dortmund and Nuremberg

Most addresses for Makkah shipments in Germany lie in three areas. Düsseldorf is the capital of North Rhine-Westphalia on the Rhine, with Neuss, Duisburg, Krefeld and Wuppertal around it. Dortmund is the largest city of the Ruhr basin, next to Bochum, Essen, Hagen and Unna. Nuremberg is Bavaria’s second city, with its suburbs Fürth, Erlangen and Schwabach. These cities have long-established Arab, Turkish and Muslim communities; many pilgrims come from them, and what they buy returns to them. We deliver to them and to every other German city, to the door:

City The shipment reaches it from Approximate road distance
Düsseldorf and its suburbs Bremerhaven or Hamburg, by rail to a Rhine terminal then a truck About 400 km from Hamburg
Dortmund and the Ruhr cities Hamburg or Bremerhaven, to the container terminal in Dortmund About 350 km from Hamburg
Nuremberg and its suburbs Hamburg by rail to Nuremberg’s inland port About 610 km from Hamburg
Cologne and Bonn Hamburg or Bremerhaven by truck or rail About 430 km from Hamburg
Berlin Hamburg by truck About 290 km
Hamburg and Bremen Straight from the port Within the city or under 100 km
Frankfurt and Mainz Hamburg by sea, and Frankfurt Airport by air About 490 km from Hamburg
Munich and Stuttgart Hamburg or Bremerhaven by rail then a truck About 780 km to Munich
Leipzig and Dresden Hamburg by truck About 390 km to Leipzig

Delivery in a German building has its own arrangements. The truck needs a temporary parking permit at the entrance, requested from the municipality days ahead, and many of the older blocks in Düsseldorf and Dortmund have no lift and a narrow staircase, so wardrobes are dismantled or raised by an external hoist through the window.

  • Unloading: into the flat, not onto the pavement.
  • Assembly on request: bedrooms, wardrobes and tables, and removal of packing waste.
  • Inventory check: the pieces are matched against the numbered list and the consignee signs.

What delivery to the door covers is on the door-to-door shipping page.

Our services for individuals, companies, government bodies and embassies

The same shipment differs with its owner. An individual wants someone to carry all the details for them, a company wants a date that fits its supply schedule, and an official body wants confidentiality and complete papers. We assign each customer one member of staff who follows the shipment from survey to delivery, so they never explain their case twice:

Customer What we provide
Individuals and families Survey, dismantling, packing, shipping, clearance and unloading in the German home
Umrah and Hajj groups coming from Germany Collection from hotels, numbered tags and distribution to the group members’ addresses
Companies and shops Containers and part loads on a fixed schedule, and samples by air
Government bodies and universities Shipping documents, exhibition material and equipment on a documented route
Embassies, consulates and missions Baggage of transferred staff and official shipments under their own procedures

Air freight from Mecca to Germany

Air freight from Mecca to Germany

Air is the route for parcels and urgent pieces. Makkah has no airport, so the shipment leaves it for the cargo village at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, about 100 km away, where it is weighed, X-rayed and loaded on the first suitable flight. The first destination is Frankfurt Airport, Germany’s largest cargo airport, reached by direct flights from Jeddah in about six hours. From there the shipment continues by truck to Düsseldorf, Dortmund, Nuremberg and the other cities in a day or two.

Air service Suits Time from Makkah Price starts from
Express documents Certificates, contracts and powers of attorney 2–4 days SAR 83
Parcels and bags to the door Umrah gifts, clothes and urgent pieces 3–6 days SAR 23 per kilogram
General air cargo above 100 kilograms Traders’ samples and a family’s urgent baggage 4–7 days Set on request by weight and volume
  • Chargeable weight: actual weight is compared with volumetric weight and the greater is taken. Work it out with the volumetric weight calculator.
  • Clearance: an electronic import declaration for each shipment, and 19% VAT on whatever is not relieved baggage.
  • Delivery inside Germany: to the door of the flat or student residence, with advance notice to the consignee.
  • When we do not recommend it: for furniture, large appliances and many books, which cost several times more by air than by sea.

For more on flying, see the air freight page, and for how a shipment is handed over in Jeddah, read the article air freight office in Jeddah.

Collection from Makkah’s districts and surroundings

We come to you where you live. In the wide, level districts such as Al-Sharaie, Al-Awali, Al-Shawqiyah, Waly Al-Ahd and Al-Nawwariyah the truck stops at the door. In the old and elevated districts such as Jarwal, Al-Utaybiyah, Al-Zahir, Kudai, Al-Rusayfah and Al-Khalidiyah we send a small vehicle first. We also collect from the hotels of the central area and Aziziyah and from the nearby towns, and all of it joins the same run towards Jeddah:

Collection place Distance from Makkah How we collect
Al-Sharaie, Al-Awali, Al-Shawqiyah and Al-Nawwariyah Within the city Closed truck or container at the door in the permitted hours
Jarwal, Al-Utaybiyah, Al-Zahir and Kudai Within the city Small vehicle to the nearest wide street
Hotels of the central area and Aziziyah Within the city Cartons and bags from reception against a receipt
Al-Jumum About 25 km On the same day as the Makkah collection
Bahrah About 40 km on the Jeddah road Picked up on the truck’s way to the port
Taif About 90 km One day before the loading day

The furniture does not have to travel on the day the house is vacated. For anyone waiting for a visa or not yet handed their German flat, we keep the belongings in our warehouse, numbered and inventoried, and ship them once there is a registered address there. The service is on the storage page.

Steps for shipping from Mecca to Germany

  1. The request: you call or message us with photos of what you will ship, the name of your district or hotel in Makkah, and the German city.
  2. Establishing your status: transferring residence, a returning pilgrim, a student or a trader. The papers and the tax are built on it.
  3. Choosing the method: air for the urgent and light, sea for the heavy and bulky, and a full or shared container by volume.
  4. Estimate and price: a survey at home or by video, then an itemised price with its time to the door.
  5. Preparing the documents: the list of contents, the German relief papers and the Saudi export declaration.
  6. Collection and packing: in the permitted hour, with the pieces numbered and a collection receipt.
  7. Transport to Jeddah and shipping: to the port or airport, and you receive the container or air waybill number.
  8. Clearance and delivery: the German broker handles the release, then the shipment is carried to your address, unloaded and checked against the inventory.

Tracking and insurance

Three weeks at sea is a long time for someone waiting for their home’s furniture. You get a message from us when the shipment leaves Makkah, when it enters Jeddah port, when the vessel sails, when it transits Suez, when it berths at Hamburg or Bremerhaven, and when it is released and the delivery slot is set.

  • Following it yourself: copy the container number into the shipping line’s tracking page, or the air waybill number into the airline’s. The steps are on the track your shipment page.
  • Insurance: optional, covering loss and damage in transit for a premium calculated on the value you declare. We advise it for a car, a whole home’s furniture and hand-made carpets.
  • Condition for a claim: photos of the piece before packing, and a written remark on the delivery note on the day of receipt in Germany. The terms are on the cargo insurance page.

Shipping from Germany to Makkah

The line works in the opposite direction too. Makkah’s hotels and kitchens buy German equipment, individuals order spare parts and home appliances, and someone returning from study or treatment ships their baggage. Our agent collects from the factory, shop or residence in Germany, and the container sails from Hamburg or Bremerhaven to Jeddah port, or the shipment flies from Frankfurt to Jeddah airport. After clearance it is carried to Makkah and delivered in the truck entry hours. Imports bear Saudi duty by item type and 15% VAT, and goods covered by the technical regulations are registered on the SABER platform before shipping.

Shipping from Makkah to the Gulf and other countries

Germany is one of our destinations from Makkah. To the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman closed trucks run overland and arrive within days, with air freight to them via Jeddah airport. To the rest of Europe, Turkey and North Africa we ship by sea from Jeddah port and by air from its airport. The Gulf method is in the article shipping from Saudi Arabia to the Gulf states, and every country we serve is on the destinations page.

Tips before shipping from Mecca to Germany

  • Choose the method by your need, not by the price per kilogram: what you expect this week by air, and what can wait a month by sea.
  • Do not set the loading day in the last ten days of Ramadan or in the days of Hajj.
  • Describe your street to us: its width, its slope and whether a medium truck can reach it.
  • Register your address in Germany as soon as you arrive and send us the certificate, as it is the key to the relief.
  • Write the consignee’s name as it appears on the flat’s doorbell and letterbox.
  • Take the ghee, cheese, dried meat and every pack of Zamzam out of the kitchen cartons.

How pieces are secured inside the container is on the packing and lashing page.

How do you choose a shipping company from Mecca to Germany?

The offers you receive in Makkah vary widely for one and the same shipment, and the cheapest is not always the least costly. Some end at the Hamburg quay and leave clearance and transport to you, and some do not count what your Makkah district requires. These questions reveal the difference in a single call:

Ask about A good sign A sign for caution
Legal standing Commercial registration, written contract and stamped collection receipt A verbal deal and a transfer to a personal account
Shipping method Sea or air, and names the German port Promises a road truck to Germany within days
German customs Asks about your address registration and how long you lived in Saudi Arabia Says nobody asks about used goods
Makkah’s conditions Asks about the district, entry hours and the season Gives you a slot in the days of Hajj without hesitation
Where the price ends Writes: to the door with unloading, or to the port One figure with no statement of what it covers

Common mistakes when shipping from Mecca to Germany

  • Putting packs of Zamzam or tins of ghee in the gift cartons, which stops the whole shipment.
  • Registering a whole Umrah group’s baggage in one person’s name, so everyone’s tax is charged to them.
  • Shipping the container before obtaining a registered address in Germany.
  • Sending an Arabic majlis as long as a wall that no German flat has.
  • Booking the loading in Hajj week, then postponing it and paying for a standing container.
  • Shipping a Gulf-specification car without asking what its inspection and modification cost.
  • Writing a German address without the name on the bell, so the parcel goes back to the depot.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Mecca to Germany

How much does shipping from Mecca to Germany cost?

By air via Jeddah airport a kilogram starts from SAR 23 and a document envelope from SAR 83. By sea, part-load furniture starts from SAR 5,500, a full-house furniture container from SAR 11,000, and a saloon on a RoRo vessel from SAR 2,800 to the German port. The leg from Makkah to Jeddah port is set on request, by district and volume. For the final price: 0552803439.

What is the cheapest way to ship from Mecca to Germany?

Sea is cheapest for anything heavy or bulky. A few cartons and pieces travel in a shared container and you pay only for their cubic metres, while a whole home fills a container at a fixed price. Air is cheaper for something small and light of only a few kilograms.

What are the prices for parcels, furniture and appliances specifically?

A parcel or suitcase is charged by air per kilogram, starting from SAR 23. Furniture is charged by sea by volume: from SAR 5,500 for a part load and from SAR 11,000 for a full container. Electrical appliances go into the container with the furniture and are not priced on their own.

How many days does a shipment take from Makkah to the consignee’s door in Germany?

3 to 6 days by air. 25 to 35 days for a full container, of which 16 to 22 days are at sea between Jeddah and Hamburg. 30 to 40 days for a part load.

Makkah has no port, so where does my shipment sail from?

From Jeddah Islamic Port, about 80 km from Makkah. We move your belongings there on the collection day itself, either inside the container if your street can take it, or in a closed truck that is unloaded into the container near the port with an inventory and photos.

Which German port does the shipment arrive at?

Containers reach Hamburg on the River Elbe on most sailings, and some berth at Bremerhaven on the North Sea. Cars on RoRo vessels come off at Bremerhaven. From both ports the shipment continues by rail or truck to your city.

Do I pay customs on my used furniture in Germany?

Under the rules in force, a person transferring residence is relieved of duty and import VAT if they have lived outside the European Union for at least 12 months, have used the items for six months and bring them in within a year of moving. Anyone who does not meet the conditions pays duty by item type and 19% VAT. We review your case before loading.

I am an Umrah pilgrim from Germany. Do you collect my purchases from the hotel?

Yes. You leave the cartons and bags at the hotel reception in the central area or Aziziyah, and we collect them against a receipt showing the number of pieces, your name as in the passport and your German address.

Can Zamzam water be shipped with the baggage?

No. Zamzam water is not shipped as cargo; what is allowed is the traveller’s dedicated pack carried from the airport. Its presence in a carton stops the whole shipment at export.

Can I ship dates, honey and ghee to my family in Germany?

Under the rules in force, dates enter without a plant health certificate, as they are among the few fruits exempted from it in the European Union. Ghee, cheese and dried meat, however, are animal products that are not accepted in personal consignments from outside the Union. Honey is restricted by the same rules, and we confirm what applies before packing.

Do you ship a car from Mecca to Germany?

Yes. A transporter takes it from Makkah to Jeddah port, then it boards a RoRo vessel to Bremerhaven or is secured inside a container to Hamburg. RoRo starts from SAR 2,800 for a saloon. After arrival there is 10% duty and 19% VAT unless the relief applies, then a technical inspection.

Do you deliver to Düsseldorf, Dortmund and Nuremberg?

Yes. Düsseldorf and Dortmund are in North Rhine-Westphalia, about 350 to 400 km from Hamburg, and Nuremberg is in Bavaria, about 610 km away. A container reaches them by rail and then a short-haul truck.

Will my electrical appliances work in Germany?

The voltage is 230 V in both countries. The difference lies in two things: the German socket has two round pins, so you need a plug adaptor or a new plug, and the frequency is 50 Hz instead of 60. Read the label of the washing machine, fridge and air conditioner; anything marked 50/60 Hz works without a problem.

Is there land freight from Mecca to Germany?

We do not rely on it. The overland route passes through many countries and several border posts with transit procedures that make neither its time nor its cost dependable for a home’s furniture or personal baggage. So we ship by sea what has volume and by air what is urgent.

Which is the best shipping company from Mecca to Germany?

The one that asks about your status in Germany before the price, names the port and the time to the door, and writes into the contract what the price covers there. Home Safe is an establishment with commercial registration 4030601060; it collects from Makkah and follows the shipment until it is unloaded at your German address.
