Who ships from the UAE to Qatar?
Qatar imports a large share of what it consumes, and the UAE is its nearest big storehouse: ports, free zones and traders’ warehouses a day away by truck. Most of what moves on this lane is therefore commercial cargo. Next come the homes of employees whose jobs moved from Dubai or Abu Dhabi to Doha, then individuals’ purchases from the UAE markets.
| Shipper | What they usually ship | Best method |
|---|---|---|
| Employee transferred to Doha | Flat or villa furniture, appliances and a car | Dedicated closed truck, and a carrier for the car |
| Trader or distributor in Qatar | Foodstuffs, consumer goods and building materials | Full truck, or a container from Jebel Ali |
| Factory or contractor | Machinery, equipment and project cargo | Flatbed or low-bed, or an open-top container |
| Online shop or individual | Parcels, purchases and gifts | Shared land freight, or air when urgent |
| Exhibitor or event organiser | Stands, screens and samples | Dedicated truck with a fixed arrival date |
How does Home Safe work on the UAE–Qatar lane?
We start with what you should know about us. Home Safe is a Saudi establishment based in Jeddah, with no office in the UAE or in Qatar. On this lane a partner agent of ours collects and clears the shipment in the UAE, and a partner agent and broker receive it in Qatar. Our part is to draw up the shipping plan, review the paperwork, book the truck, container or flight and follow the whole journey. The middle of that journey is Saudi: the Batha and Salwa posts stand on the Kingdom’s soil, and our own Gulf shipments pass through such crossings every week.
- Advice before booking: we ask about the cargo, its origin and the consignee’s status, then recommend land, sea or air.
- Collection in the UAE: from the home, warehouse or free zone, with packing where needed.
- Paperwork: the UAE export declaration, the Saudi transit declaration and the Qatari import declaration.
- Transport: a dedicated truck or space on a shared one, a container, or space on an aircraft.
- Delivery in Qatar: door to door depending on the type of shipment, with unloading and assembly for household furniture.
- One person who answers: a single number in Jeddah to ask about the shipment at any stage.
The full service is explained on the door-to-door shipping page, and what we know about the destination is on the shipping to Qatar page.
Ways of shipping from the UAE to Qatar
Three methods serve this lane, each with its own cargo. Land carries most shipments because it is the shortest and involves the least handling. Sea is for the heavy, the bulky and whatever leaves the Jebel Ali warehouses. Air is for what cannot wait. The table sets them side by side:
| Point of comparison | Land | Sea | Air |
|---|---|---|---|
| Exit point | Ghuwaifat crossing | Jebel Ali Port or Khalifa Port | Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah airports |
| Entry point | Abu Samra crossing | Hamad Port | Hamad International Airport |
| Door-to-door time | 2–7 days | 6–10 days | One to two days |
| Suits | Furniture, general cargo and cars | Full containers, equipment and boats | Documents, parcels and urgent items |
| Number of handlings | One loading and one unloading for a dedicated truck | At least four | At least four |
| Price | Set on request | Set on request | Set on request |
The general comparison of the three modes is on the shipping methods comparison page.
The land route from the UAE to Qatar via Saudi Arabia and the Batha and Salwa crossings
The UAE and Qatar share no direct land border; a strip of Saudi territory about 120 km long lies between them on the Gulf coast. Every truck therefore crosses two international borders and four customs points on a journey of no more than a day’s driving. It leaves through the Ghuwaifat crossing in the far west of Abu Dhabi emirate, enters the Kingdom at Batha, heads north to the Salwa crossing and enters Qatar at Abu Samra. Dubai to Doha is about 695 km, and Abu Dhabi to Doha about 590 km.

| Stage | Approximate distance | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Dubai to the Ghuwaifat crossing | About 470 km, and about 370 km from Abu Dhabi | Motorway through Al Dhafra; the export declaration is closed at the post |
| Ghuwaifat → Batha | The two posts face each other | UAE exit, then Saudi entry on a transit declaration |
| Batha → Salwa | About 120 km | Transit inside the Kingdom with the load sealed |
| Salwa → Abu Samra | The two posts face each other | Saudi exit, then the Qatari import declaration and inspection |
| Abu Samra → Doha | About 100 km | Distribution to addresses or unloading at the warehouse |
The Saudi transit is what sets this lane apart from others in the Gulf. The practice in force is that the cargo moves under a transit declaration and a customs guarantee, stays sealed until it leaves through Salwa, and pays no Saudi duty because it never enters the Saudi market. The driver needs a transit visa and Saudi insurance for the truck, which the carrier arranges before the trip rather than at the border. We confirm the current procedure before every shipment. The service is explained on the land freight page, and the list of crossings is on the ports and gateways page.
Transit time from the UAE to Qatar
The drive from Dubai to Doha is seven to eight hours for a small car and longer for a loaded truck. The time that matters to you, though, runs from the day of collection to the day of unloading, and includes packing, consolidation and waiting at the posts. The figures below are estimates that we confirm on the day of booking according to conditions at the crossings.
| Method | Collection to delivery | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Dedicated closed truck | 2–4 days | Leaves on the day of loading |
| Space on a shared truck | 4–7 days | Waits in the consolidation warehouse for the load to fill |
| Car on a carrier | 3–6 days | Once the export certificate is ready |
| Container from Jebel Ali to Hamad Port | 6–10 days | The sailing is short; the rest is handling and clearance |
| Air freight to Hamad International Airport | One to two days | After space on the flight is confirmed |
What lengthens the transit time?
- A missing document at one of the four posts: an absent certificate of origin or a list that does not match the load stops the whole truck.
- Holiday congestion: truck queues at Ghuwaifat and Salwa grow before the Eid holidays and on long weekends.
- Goods that need a permit: food, medicine and communication devices wait for approval from the competent Qatari authority.
- Manual inspection: an untidy or unnumbered load is taken off and reloaded, which sometimes costs a full day.
Times on our other lanes are on the transit times page.
Shipping prices from the UAE to Qatar
We do not publish a fixed figure for this lane, and we say why: the shipment starts in a country that is not ours, and its cost follows the UAE carriers’ rates on the day of booking, the charges at four customs points, and the type and origin of the goods. The honest figure is the one calculated for your own shipment. We send it in writing, itemised: collection, transport, clearance at each end, delivery, and what remains outside the price.
| Service | What the price is based on | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Cartons and parcels on a shared truck | Volume in cubic metres, or weight | Set on request |
| Furniture of a room or a flat | Cubic metres, dismantling, packing and floor level | Set on request |
| Dedicated closed truck | Truck capacity and the loading and unloading points | Set on request |
| Car on a carrier | Size of the car and type of carrier | Set on request |
| 20ft or 40ft container from Jebel Ali | Container type and charges at both ports | Set on request |
| Air freight | The greater of actual and volumetric weight | Set on request |
Prices circulating in the market: few shipping offices publish prices for this lane; most quote after a survey. What we found published are the rates of international express-courier brokers: an urgent document from the UAE to Qatar at about 130 euros before tax and an urgent parcel at about 160 euros, which are express-service rates and no yardstick for furniture or cargo. For moving a car door to door between the two countries, figures of 5,000 to 6,000 Qatari riyals circulate in Qatar. The original article on our site gave no figures. We do not state a number before we have calculated it.
| Factor | How it affects the price |
|---|---|
| Volume and weight | A truck is priced by space, an aircraft by weight, a container by the unit |
| Collection point | Abu Dhabi and Al Dhafra are closer to the border than the northern emirates |
| Dedicated or shared | Dedicated is faster and dearer; shared splits the hire among everyone |
| Origin of the goods | Gulf goods enter Qatar duty free; foreign goods pay 5% unless shown to be paid |
| Added services | Dismantling, packing, assembly, storage and insurance |
| Season | Truck rates rise before the Eid holidays and in exhibition seasons |
How do you cut the cost?
- Choose shared freight if your load is under half a truck and no date is pressing.
- Send the complete list and photos the first time; booking more space than you need is money lost.
- Prepare the certificate of origin for Gulf goods, since it removes the Qatari duty.
- Do not ship what can be bought in Doha for less than the cost of moving it.
Our pricing factors page lists every element of a freight rate, and the CBM calculator tells you how many cubic metres your load takes up.
Collection from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the other emirates
The shipment is collected from wherever it is: a flat in a tower, a villa, a warehouse in an industrial area or a free zone. The emirate’s position decides the collection day and the length of the drive to Ghuwaifat. Abu Dhabi is on the truck’s way in any case, Dubai and Sharjah are a few hours from it, and the east coast is the farthest.
| Emirate | Areas our agent collects from | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Dubai | Deira, Bur Dubai, Al Quoz, Jebel Ali, Dubai South, the Marina | Towers ask for a move permit and a service-lift booking |
| Abu Dhabi | Abu Dhabi Island, Mussafah, Khalifa City, Al Reem, Al Dhafra | Closest to the border, about 590 km to Doha |
| Al Ain | The city centre and industrial areas | Joins the route at Abu Dhabi |
| Sharjah and Ajman | The industrial areas, Al Nahda, Al Sajaa, Al Jurf | Usually consolidated with Dubai shipments |
| Umm Al Quwain and Ras Al Khaimah | The two cities and their free zones | An extra day for collection on shared freight |
| Fujairah and Khor Fakkan | The city and the port | Farthest from the crossing; the date is set on request |
Dedicated or shared truck? And the vehicle types on this lane
A dedicated truck carries your shipment alone, so it leaves on the day of loading and crosses on a single declaration. A shared truck combines the shipments of several senders, so you pay for the space you occupy and wait until it fills. Our rule: above half a truck, dedicated is cheaper and safer; below that, shared. Then comes the type of vehicle, which we arrange through partner carriers according to what you ship:
| Vehicle | Approximate capacity | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| Small closed truck | 3–5 tonnes | A small flat’s furniture, a trader’s parcels |
| Medium truck | 7–10 tonnes | A large flat or villa, palletised goods |
| Closed or curtain-side trailer | Up to about 25 tonnes | A full factory or warehouse load |
| Refrigerated truck | According to volume | Chilled and frozen food and heat-sensitive materials |
| Car carrier or flatbed | One to eight cars | Cars and motorcycles |
| Low-bed for heavy loads | Set by weight and dimensions | Equipment, generators and project cargo |
Furniture shipping from the UAE to Qatar
Household furniture is the most common personal shipment on this lane and the one that needs most care before the road. The truck stops at four points and may be opened for inspection at any of them, and furniture that has not been numbered and arranged suffers at every opening. Work therefore begins in the home in the UAE a day before loading.
- Dismantling: bedrooms, wardrobes and tables are taken apart, and their screws kept in bags marked with the item number.
- Packing: blankets and corrugated card for wood, corner guards for edges, and wooden crates for glass, marble and screens.
- Appliances: switch the fridge off the day before and leave it to dry out; lock the drum of the washing machine with the bolts it was delivered with.
- The list: every item and carton with a number and description; the same list goes to Qatari customs.
- In Qatar: unloading into the rooms, reassembly of what was dismantled, and removal of the packing waste.
How to prepare each item is in the packing guide, and the service details are on the furniture shipping page. Anyone moving home from the UAE to the Kingdom will find that lane in the article shipping furniture from the UAE to Jeddah.
Parcels and personal luggage
Not everything shipped is a whole household. A traveller’s bags over the airline allowance, cartons of books and clothes, purchases from Dubai’s markets, gifts for family in Doha: these travel on shared land freight if they can wait a few days, and by air if they are urgent. For every parcel we ask for an honest description of its contents and value, and the consignee’s name, Qatari mobile number and address.
The practice in Qatar is that personal effects and gifts in non-commercial quantities are exempt up to a value set by customs, while anything above it, or anything that looks intended for sale, pays duty. So do not put ten identical new items in a personal parcel. Service details are on the parcel shipping page.
Commercial goods and re-export from the free zones
Most of the cargo heading from the UAE to Qatar is not made in the UAE. It is Asian or European merchandise that arrived at Jebel Ali, was stored in a free zone or a trader’s warehouse, and was then sold to a Qatari importer. That makes the first customs question: where did the goods come out of, and has their duty already been paid?
| Status of the goods in the UAE | Exit document | Treatment in Qatar |
|---|---|---|
| Made in the UAE or another Gulf state | Export declaration and Gulf certificate of origin | Duty free on the certificate of origin |
| Foreign, duty paid in the UAE | Export declaration and the duty-settlement (maqasa) document | Duty is not charged again once payment is shown |
| Foreign, leaving a free zone | Exit document or re-export declaration | General 5% duty on entry |
| Food, medicine or cosmetics | Health certificate and clear expiry dates | Approval of the competent Qatari authority before release |
For companies and factories that ship regularly we arrange a contract fixing the pricing method, the schedule and the loading points, with its terms stated in the booking confirmation. We accept both full and part loads: a truck or container to yourself, or pallets in a consolidated shipment. An exact description of the goods and their tariff code comes before everything else, because a vague description such as “assorted goods” is what holds trucks at Abu Samra. The rest is on the commercial shipping page.
Car and motorcycle shipping from the UAE to Qatar
The road is short, and many people drive their cars themselves. But anyone who flies, owns more than one car, or fears for a low-slung car over seven hundred kilometres chooses a carrier. An ordinary car is loaded on a shared open carrier; sports, luxury and classic cars travel on an enclosed flatbed or inside a closed truck, secured by the wheels and not by the body.
- A car to be registered in Qatar: it leaves with an export certificate and export plates from the licensing authority in your emirate, after fines are paid and any bank lien is released.
- What Qatar asks for: the practice in force is 5% duty on the value unless it is shown to have been paid within the Gulf, a five-year age limit for light vehicles, and a technical inspection before registration. We confirm what applies to your car before its plates are surrendered.
- A car that visits and returns: it keeps its UAE plates and needs no export, but it does need insurance covering Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Where a carnet is required, we explain it on the triptik carnet page.
- Motorcycles: fixed to a wooden base or inside a crate, and shipped with cars or on shared freight.
Carrier types and car preparation are on the car shipping page, and the other destinations for cars leaving the UAE are in the article car shipping from the UAE.
Boats, heavy equipment and exhibition shipments
Three kinds of shipment do not fit an ordinary truck, and each has its own arrangement. A small boat or jet ski travels on its trailer or on a flatbed, while a larger yacht is lifted onto a cradle at the port and shipped by sea to Hamad Port. Heavy equipment, generators and project cargo move on a low-bed with an abnormal-load permit in every country crossed, so they are booked well ahead. Exhibition stands, screens and samples travel on a dedicated truck with an arrival date before the opening, then return to the UAE after the event.
Goods that enter Qatar for display and then leave can move under temporary admission instead of full import, and we confirm the available procedure with the broker before shipping. Details are on the boat and yacht shipping and heavy equipment shipping pages.
Sea container shipping from Jebel Ali Port in the UAE to Hamad Port in Qatar
Jebel Ali Port in Dubai is the largest port in the region, and Hamad Port at Umm Al Houl, south of Doha, is Qatar’s main sea gateway. Regular container services link them, and the sailing itself is short. But the container is loaded, hauled to the port, cleared and lifted, and all of that is repeated at the other end, so the total comes to 6 to 10 days. We therefore say it plainly: sea on this lane is not for a single household, since the truck is faster and involves less handling. Sea is for those who ship a lot or ship heavy, or whose goods are already at Jebel Ali.

| Container type | What it carries | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 20ft dry | About 28 cubic metres of goods, or a medium household | The most requested for heavy cargo |
| 40ft dry or high cube | About 58–68 cubic metres | For light, bulky cargo |
| Refrigerated | Chilled and frozen food | Temperature is set and logged throughout the voyage |
| Open top or flat rack | Machinery and equipment beyond container dimensions | Loaded by crane and lashed with chains |
| Part load in a consolidated container | Pallets and crates | Charged per cubic metre; moves when the container is full |
From Abu Dhabi the container may leave from Khalifa Port, depending on the service available. Cars are shipped by sea inside a container, lashed by the wheels, which suits anyone sending several cars on one booking. Box dimensions are on the container sizes page, and the service is explained on the sea freight page.
Customs at the four border posts and the documents required
A land shipment passes four customs authorities over a short distance: the UAE’s on exit, Saudi Arabia’s twice, on entry and exit, and Qatar’s on arrival. The declarations are filed electronically before the truck reaches the post, and the Qatari import declaration is registered in the Al Nadeeb clearance system. When the file is complete in the UAE, the truck crosses in hours.
| Type of shipment | Required from the sender in the UAE | Required from the consignee in Qatar |
|---|---|---|
| Used furniture and effects | Passport and Emirates ID or proof of residence cancellation, and a numbered packing list | Qatari residence permit or ID card, and an employer’s letter |
| Parcels and gifts | Description of contents and value | Name, mobile number and address |
| Commercial goods | Invoice, packing list, certificate of origin and trade licence | Commercial registration, importer code and any product-specific permit |
| Car or motorcycle | Export certificate, vehicle ownership and the owner’s ID | Qatari ID card or residence permit |
| Exhibition or project shipment | List with serial numbers and the organiser’s letter | Receiving party’s letter and site permits |
What every paper is for can be read on the shipping documents page; how a load is released is set out under customs clearance.
Customs duties and exemptions in Qatar
Qatar is a member of the Gulf customs union, and its general duty is 5% of the value of the goods plus their freight and insurance. The practice so far is that it levies no value added tax, unlike the UAE and Saudi Arabia. What matters for your shipment is which of these cases applies to it:
| Case | Practice in force | What we ask of you |
|---|---|---|
| Used furniture of a person moving to live there | Exempt on conditions: personal use and arrival within the period after entry | Residence permit or work visa, and the packing list |
| New furniture and appliances | General 5% duty | Purchase invoices |
| Goods of Gulf origin | Duty free | Gulf certificate of origin |
| Foreign goods with duty paid in the UAE | Not charged a second time once payment is shown | The duty-settlement document with the export declaration |
| Special goods such as tobacco | Rates above the general duty | We review the item before accepting it |
The exemption is ultimately the customs inspector’s decision, not a shipping company’s promise. Regulations change, so we review your file with the Qatari broker and confirm the conditions in force before the truck is loaded.
Prohibited and restricted items when shipping to Qatar
The load passes through three countries, and whatever any one of them bans stops the whole truck. The Qatari and Saudi lists are close on most items. We review the list before loading and remove what will not cross before it reaches the post.
| Item | Status | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Alcohol and pork products | Prohibited | Banned in Qatar and in Saudi transit |
| Narcotics and psychotropic substances | Prohibited | A criminal offence in all three countries |
| Weapons, ammunition and fireworks | Prohibited without an official licence | Includes hunting and air guns |
| Electronic cigarettes and gambling equipment | Prohibited in Qatar | Confiscated at the post |
| Medicines | Restricted | With a prescription in personal quantity, or a permit for trade |
| Wireless communication devices and drones | Restricted | With a permit from the regulator |
| Dangerous goods, batteries and chemicals | Restricted | With a declared class, approved packaging and a licensed truck |
The full list is on the prohibited items page.
Delivering shipments from the UAE in Doha, Al Rayyan, Al Wakrah and Lusail
After Abu Samra only about an hour remains to Doha. Qatar is small, and most of its people live in and around the capital, so a truck that crosses in the morning delivers the same day. A dedicated truck goes straight to the address. A shared one is emptied at the agent’s warehouse, and the shipments then go out on smaller vehicles that can enter residential districts and towers.

| City or municipality | Areas we deliver to | Delivery note |
|---|---|---|
| Doha | West Bay, The Pearl, Al Sadd, Bin Mahmoud, Al Mansoura | Towers ask for prior permission and a service-lift booking |
| Al Rayyan | Al Gharrafa, Muaither, Ain Khaled, Al Waab | Villas and compounds, with direct unloading |
| Al Wakrah | Al Wakrah, Al Wukair, Mesaieed | Close to Hamad Port; industrial cargo is delivered here |
| Lusail and Al Daayen | Lusail towers, Al Kharayej, Fox Hills | Truck entry permit from the building management |
| Industrial Area | The commercial streets and warehouses | Commercial cargo delivered kerbside or by forklift |
| Al Khor, Umm Salal and the north | Al Khor, Umm Salal Mohammed, Al Ruwais | Usually the day after crossing |
A Qatari address is three numbers on the blue plate at the entrance of every building: zone, street and building. Send them with a Qatari mobile number the consignee answers. In the home the furniture is carried to its rooms, what was dismantled in the UAE is reassembled, and you sign the delivery record after checking the list.
Air freight from the UAE to Qatar
An aircraft covers the distance between Dubai and Doha in about an hour, one of the shortest air-cargo lanes in the region. The shipment is accepted at the cargo terminal of one of the UAE airports: Dubai International, Al Maktoum International at Dubai South, Abu Dhabi airport or Sharjah airport. It lands at Hamad International Airport, is cleared there and is delivered in Doha within one to two days of collection. Goods re-exported from the free zones next to the airports also leave by air.

| What goes by air | Time | Price | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Documents, contracts and passports | One to two days | Set on request | Sealed envelope, delivered against signature |
| Parcels and commercial samples | One to two days | Set on request | Charged on the greater of actual and volumetric weight |
| Urgent spare parts and electronics | One to two days | Set on request | Batteries only inside their devices |
| Palletised goods | Two to three days | Set on request | Depending on the space available on the flight |
- When it suits you: when time is worth more than the difference in cost: a part that stops a production line, a tender document, a sample for a client.
- When it does not: the truck arrives within a few days, so anything above a few tens of kilograms with no pressing date is better off by road.
- What the aircraft will not accept: perfumes, aerosols, flammable liquids and loose batteries.
- Volumetric weight: a bulky carton that weighs little is billed on the space it fills, which the volumetric weight calculator works out for you.
The service is explained on the air freight page.
Packing, consolidation and temporary storage in Dubai
Many shipments are not ready in a single day. A trader buys from three suppliers in Deira, Al Quoz and Jebel Ali, or an employee hands back a flat before the housing in Doha is ready. In both cases the items are gathered in the agent’s warehouse in Dubai until complete, then leave on one truck under one declaration. Temporary storage is charged by time and space and is set on request.
- Ordinary shipments: double-wall cartons, tape and a label with a number and the consignee’s name.
- Sensitive and fragile items: wooden crates and padding, with orientation and fragile marks.
- Commercial cargo: strapped, stretch-wrapped pallets at a height that suits the truck.
- Dangerous goods: accepted only with their declared class, approved packaging and safety documents.
Securing methods inside the truck and the container are on the packing and lashing page, and the storage service is on the storage page.
Steps for shipping from the UAE to Qatar
From the first message to the delivery signature the shipment goes through eight steps, most of them finished before the truck moves:
- You send the list, the photos and the two addresses on WhatsApp 0552803439.
- We ask about the origin of the goods and the consignee’s status, recommend the method and send an itemised price.
- You confirm the booking and receive a confirmation stating the terms and the date.
- The agent in the UAE surveys, packs and loads, and writes the condition report.
- The customs declarations are filed electronically before the truck reaches Ghuwaifat.
- The truck passes Batha and Salwa, and you receive a message at each post.
- The import declaration is cleared at Abu Samra, and duty is paid where due.
- The shipment is delivered to your address in Qatar, and you sign after checking the list.
Tracking and insuring the shipment
On a road this short the truck is never out of sight for long, but you want to know where it stopped and why. We send an update at five points: loading, exit from Ghuwaifat, entry at Batha, exit from Salwa and release at Abu Samra. If it is held at a post we tell you the reason and what we are doing about it, rather than a bare “on the way”. Details are on the shipment tracking page.
Insurance is optional and issued at your request. It covers the load at its declared value from collection to delivery against accident, damage and loss, according to the policy terms. We recommend it for all commercial cargo and for villa furniture and cars. A claim needs the condition report, the numbered list and photos taken before loading, so do not neglect any of them. It is explained on the cargo insurance page.
Shipping from Qatar to the UAE
The lane works in both directions. Someone returning from Doha to Dubai, someone bringing back exhibition goods, someone exporting from Qatar to the UAE market: their shipment takes the same road in reverse, Abu Samra, Salwa, Batha, Ghuwaifat. The difference lies in customs. The UAE charges, on top of the general 5% duty, 5% value added tax on imported commercial goods, while the used effects of a returning resident have their own exemption on its conditions. The price is set on request. Destination details are on the shipping to the UAE page.
Tips before you ship from the UAE to Qatar
These are small matters customers ask about after a shipment has been delayed, so we mention them beforehand:
- Do not cancel your UAE residence before the export declaration in your name is complete.
- Ask your employer in Qatar for a letter proving your transfer, since it is the basis of the furniture exemption.
- Separate new from used in the list and in the loading, so that duty is not charged on everything.
- Avoid the week before the Eid holidays if your date is flexible.
- Keep copies of the invoices for valuable appliances; they may be requested at inspection or for a claim.
How do you choose a shipping company from the UAE to Qatar?
Many offices in Dubai and Doha advertise this lane. The difference between them does not show in the advert but in their answers to specific questions before you pay:

Common mistakes when shipping from the UAE to Qatar
Seven mistakes we see repeated, each costing days at a post or a duty that was never due:
- Shipping Gulf goods without a certificate of origin, so duty is charged that one document would have removed.
- Writing “personal effects” on cartons that hold new goods for sale.
- Forgetting the duty-settlement document for foreign goods already taxed in the UAE, so duty is paid twice.
- Surrendering the plates of a car older than the limit Qatar allows for registration.
- Hiding medicines or electronic cigarettes among the furniture, assuming they will not be seen.
- Booking the truck before the consignee’s residence permit or work visa has been issued.
- Comparing quotes by the final number alone, without looking at what each one includes.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from the UAE to Qatar
What is the best shipping company from the UAE to Qatar?
The one that explains the four border posts before it mentions a figure: exit at Ghuwaifat, transit entry at Batha, exit at Salwa and entry at Abu Samra. Home Safe is a registered establishment in Jeddah that runs this lane through partner agents in the UAE and Qatar and follows the Saudi stretch of the road itself. Its number is 0552803439.
How long does a shipment take from Dubai to Doha by road?
A dedicated truck usually arrives within two to four days, counted from loading to unloading inside the home, and a shared shipment within four to seven days because it waits for the truck to fill. The drive itself is about 695 km, but the time goes on four customs points rather than on the road.
How much does shipping from the UAE to Qatar cost?
We do not publish a fixed figure for this lane; the price is set on request once the volume, the two addresses and the method are known. Send photos of the items or a list on WhatsApp 0552803439 and you receive an itemised figure that states what it includes and what stays outside it, such as Qatari duty where it is due.
Which border crossing does the truck use?
It leaves the UAE through the Ghuwaifat crossing in the far west of Abu Dhabi and enters the Kingdom at Batha, directly opposite. It then drives about 120 km on Saudi soil to the Salwa crossing and enters Qatar at Abu Samra. There is no road between the two countries that avoids Saudi Arabia.
Is the shipment opened in Saudi Arabia when it is only passing through?
The practice in force is that transit cargo moves under a transit declaration and stays sealed until it leaves through Salwa, with no Saudi duty charged because it never enters the Saudi market. Customs may still scan or inspect any truck it chooses, so we match the list to the load before departure and confirm the current procedure before shipping.
Do I pay customs duty on my used furniture in Qatar?
The practice in force is that a person moving to live in Qatar brings in used furniture and effects free of duty when they are for personal use and arrive within the set period after entry, supported by a Qatari residence permit or proof that it is in process. New items still in their cartons carry the general 5% duty, and we review your file before loading.
When is sea freight from Jebel Ali better than the truck?
When the cargo is heavy commercial freight or several containers, a machine no ordinary truck can carry, a boat, or goods already stored inside the Jebel Ali free zone. The sailing to Hamad Port is short, but handling and clearance at both ports make the total longer than the road, so we do not suggest it for a single household.
Do you ship from Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the other emirates?
Yes. Our agent collects from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah. Abu Dhabi is the emirate closest to the border, about 590 km from Doha, while the northern emirates add a day for collection on shared shipments.
Can I ship my car from the UAE to Qatar?
Yes, on an open carrier or inside a closed truck for luxury and sports cars. A car that will be registered in Qatar leaves with an export certificate and export plates from the licensing authority in your emirate, and the practice in Qatar is 5% duty and a five-year age limit for light vehicles. We confirm what applies to your car before its plates are surrendered.
What cannot be shipped to Qatar?
Alcohol, pork products, narcotics, weapons and ammunition, gambling equipment, electronic cigarettes and counterfeit goods. Medicines, wireless communication devices, drones and food in commercial quantities need permits from the competent authority before the shipment moves.
How long does air freight from the UAE to Qatar take?
The flight itself is about an hour, and the shipment is delivered in Doha within one to two days of collection, because the time goes on cargo acceptance at the terminal and clearance at Hamad International Airport. It is the choice for documents, parcels, urgent spare parts and samples.
Do you handle customs clearance in Qatar?
Yes, through a licensed broker there who works with us. The import declaration is filed electronically before the shipment arrives through the Qatari clearance system, and it needs the consignee’s ID card or residence permit, or a commercial registration and importer code for a trader. Any duty due is paid in the consignee’s name against an official receipt.
Do I need to be present at the border?
Usually not. Personal and commercial shipments are cleared on documents and an authorisation, so the owner flies and receives the goods at home. We ask you or your representative to attend only if Qatari customs requires it for the inspection of exempt furniture or a car.
Do you ship goods out of the UAE free zones?
Yes. Goods leaving a free zone move on an exit document or a re-export declaration and are treated in Qatar as foreign goods liable to the general duty unless they are shown to be of Gulf origin. We ask for the invoice, packing list and certificate of origin before booking the truck or container.
Do you also ship from Qatar to the UAE?
Yes, on the same road in the opposite direction: from Abu Samra to Salwa, then Batha and Ghuwaifat. The UAE adds 5% value added tax on imported commercial goods, so we calculate it together with the duty before shipping. The price is set on request.
