Route and transit time for shipping cars from Jeddah to Turkey
The car leaves Jeddah Islamic Port on the Red Sea, passes through the Suez Canal into the Mediterranean, then docks at Mersin in southern Turkey or continues to Istanbul. There is no practical land route from Jeddah to Turkey, so sea is the mainstay and air is for the urgent.
| Method | Sailing or flight time | Total time | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| RoRo to Mersin | 7 – 12 days | 15 – 22 days | A used car that runs under its own power |
| Container to Mersin | 8 – 14 days | 18 – 25 days | Luxury, classic and non-running cars |
| Container to Istanbul | 10 – 15 days | 20 – 28 days | Those bound for northern Turkey |
| Air to Istanbul | Hours | 3 – 6 days | High-value and urgent cars |
The total time covers collection, the wait for the sailing date, the voyage and discharge. What lengthens it most is a missing document, not the sea.
Prices for shipping cars from Jeddah to Turkey
At Home Safe, shipping a saloon from Jeddah to Mersin by RoRo starts from SAR 2,800. The price of a container or air freight is set once the car’s type and size are known, so ask for it on 0552803439 and you will have it the same day.
| Factor | How it changes the price |
|---|---|
| Shipping method | RoRo costs least for one car, a container more, and air the most |
| Car class | A saloon costs less than a 4×4, and a light truck more than both |
| Sharing a container | Two cars in a 40-foot container lower each one’s share |
| Arrival port | Mersin is nearer and cheaper than Istanbul |
| Inland transport | Collection from outside Jeddah is a separate item, by distance |

What the freight does not include: arrival port charges and clearance in Turkey are paid there. We estimate them for you before shipping, so you know the full cost.
Shipping a car to Turkey by RoRo or by container?
On RoRo the car drives onto the vessel on its own wheels and is lashed on a dedicated deck. In a container it is secured inside a closed box with four straps and chocks under the tyres.

| Comparison | RoRo | Container |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Lowest for one car | Higher, and lower when shared |
| Protection | Inside the vessel’s hold, open to what is around it | A closed, sealed box |
| Car’s condition | Must run and be drivable | Suits non-running cars too |
| Belongings in the car | Not allowed; the cabin is empty | Not allowed in the car; lawful goods may go in the container |
| Best for | An ordinary used car | Luxury, classic, or two cars together |
Each method is covered in detail on the RoRo car shipping and container car shipping pages.
Conditions for a Saudi car entering Turkey
This is the most important thing to know before shipping. Turkey allows a foreign-plated car in on temporary entry with no import duties, under conditions set by the Turkish Ministry of Trade:
- Residence outside Turkey: the car’s owner must have lived outside it for at least 185 days in the last year.
- Length of stay: up to 730 days for a Turkish citizen living abroad and for the holder of a Turkish residence permit or Blue Card.
- Without a residence permit: 90 days in every 180.
- One car: one private car is allowed per person.
- Ownership: the car must be registered in their name in their country of residence, or they must hold an authorisation from its owner living abroad.
- Insurance: insurance valid in Turkey for the whole stay.
- Use: the car may not be sold, rented out or lent within Turkey.
Those who come to study or work for a set period, or as retirees with temporary residence, bring their car in on the “temporary entrance carnet for foreign vehicles” issued by the Touring and Automobile Association of Turkey.
Note: anyone wanting to register a used car on permanent Turkish plates faces severe restrictions, and in most cases it is not allowed. If that is your aim, tell us before shipping, so the car does not arrive and then fail to be registered.
Documents required to ship a car from Jeddah to Turkey

- The car’s registration: valid and in the shipper’s name, or with a certified authorisation.
- ID or residence permit: a valid copy, with a copy of the passport.
- Export certificate: issued by the traffic department after the plates are surrendered for permanent export, or a temporary exit permit for a car that will return.
- Triptyque: the customs passage carnet for temporary entry, which we prepare before departure. Details are on the triptyque and carnet de passage page.
- Consignee details in Turkey: the name as in the passport, the residence number if any, and a Turkish mobile number.
- An insurance policy: valid in Turkey.
Steps for shipping a car from Jeddah to Turkey
- You send the car’s details: make, model and year, whether it runs, and the Turkish city it is bound for.
- You receive the price and method: RoRo, container or air, with the time and what the price covers.
- We review the documents: and match them to Turkey’s entry conditions before any booking.
- We collect the car: from your home or the showroom, and record its condition and odometer in photos.

- Sailing and follow-up: an update reaches you on departure and on arrival.
- Clearance and handover: at the arrival port, to you or your agent.
Arrival at Mersin and Istanbul, and delivery in Turkish cities

Mersin is the nearest port for vessels from the Red Sea, and most RoRo cars are discharged there. Istanbul is served by container through the Port of Ambarlı.
| City | Best port | Distance from the port |
|---|---|---|
| Mersin and Adana | Mersin | Up to 70 km |
| Antalya | Mersin | About 480 km |
| Ankara | Mersin | About 490 km |
| Gaziantep | Mersin | About 290 km |
| Istanbul | Ambarlı | Within the city |
| Bursa and Izmir | Ambarlı or Mersin, by line | 150 – 480 km |
The other Turkish destinations and the ways of shipping to them are on the shipping to Turkey page.
Air freight for cars from Jeddah to Turkey

Air freight from King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah to Istanbul Airport delivers the car within 3 to 6 days of collection. The car is strapped to a metal aircraft pallet and loaded into a cargo aircraft.
- Who it suits: luxury, sports and classic cars, and anyone with a date the sea cannot meet.
- How it is charged: on the car’s weight and its footprint on the pallet, not per unit as with RoRo.
- Conditions: fuel at its minimum, and the battery disconnected as the carrier instructs.
- Price: far higher than sea, and set for each car. Ask for it on 0552803439.
Can I ship my belongings and furniture with the car?
Not inside the car. The cabin travels empty apart from its original equipment, and anything in it holds up clearance of the whole shipment. Those with furniture or belongings ship them separately, or in the same container beside the car, in a lawful arrangement with a contents list. Details are on the furniture and household shipping page.
How do you work out the cost of shipping your car to Turkey?
The real cost is not the freight alone. Work it out like this:
- Inland transport from your location to Jeddah port.
- Sea or air freight by the chosen method.
- Arrival port charges and clearance in Turkey.
- Transport within Turkey if your city is far from the port.
- Insurance if you choose it.
Two quotes with the same figure can differ entirely: one stops at the quay in Mersin and the other reaches your city. Always ask where the price ends.
Common mistakes when shipping a car to Turkey
- Shipping before checking the 185-day condition: anyone who spent more than half of the last year in Turkey cannot bring their car in temporarily.
- Preparing the documents after the car arrives: it waits at the port and storage charges build up daily.
- Leaving belongings in the cabin: the car is held until it is emptied.
- Choosing RoRo for a car that does not run: it is not accepted, and a container is the answer.
- Overstaying: fines and seizure, so count the days from the entry stamp.
- Insurance that does not cover Turkey: the car is not handed over without it.
