Who ships from Riyadh to Turkey, and what do they ship?

The route between Riyadh and Turkey carries varied shipments. A family that bought a flat in Istanbul or Bursa and is moving its furniture there. A Turkish national who worked in Riyadh for years and is going home. A student in Ankara. A trader sending samples or goods. Each has a method that suits the size of the shipment and its deadline:

Shipper What they ship Best method
A family moving to live in Turkey A full household of furniture and appliances A 20ft or 40ft container
The owner of a flat or summer home One or two rooms and furnishings Part-load sea freight by the cubic metre
A Turkish national returning from work in Riyadh Household effects and the car A container, and RoRo for the car
Students and seconded employees Suitcases, cartons and books Air freight or part-load sea freight
Traders and exporters Dates, petrochemicals, plastics and assorted goods A full or shared container
Someone with an urgent matter Documents, samples and spare parts Air freight

Why does shipping from Riyadh to Turkey need special planning?

There is no sea at Riyadh and no quay, which turns its sea freight to Turkey into two linked journeys: one over land as far as the port, and one on the water. Two ports are open to it: King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam to the east, some 400 km away, and Jeddah Islamic Port to the west, some 950 km away. Dammam is closer, yet its vessels must round the Arabian Peninsula before they reach the Red Sea, whereas a vessel out of Jeddah heads north to the Suez Canal and on into the Mediterranean with no detour. For that reason we send most of what is shipped to Turkey out through Jeddah port.

The difference between a shipment that arrives on time and one that is late is managing the two stages as one operation. The truck collects from your door, the documents are completed while it is on the road, and the vessel booking is confirmed before it arrives. The container does not wait in the port yard collecting storage charges. Air freight needs none of this, because King Khalid Airport is in Riyadh itself.

The route from Riyadh to Turkey and how long it takes

We give you the time from your door in Riyadh to the consignee’s door, not the sailing time alone. Sailing is one part of the journey; before it come collection, carriage and clearance, and after it Turkish clearance and delivery. These are the stages of a full container through Jeddah:

Stage What happens Usual time
Collection in Riyadh Dismantling, packing, inventory and loading 1–2 days
Carriage to the port By truck to Jeddah, or by train from the dry port to Dammam 1–3 days
Export and waiting for the vessel Export clearance and handing the container to the shipping line 3–7 days
Sailing Jeddah → Suez Canal → Mersin 7–12 days on a direct service
Turkish clearance Customs declaration, inspection and payment of duties 3–5 working days
Delivery inside Turkey From the port to the consignee’s city 1–3 days

The time varies with the method and the port. Istanbul is further than Mersin by sea, a part load waits for the container to fill, and air cuts all of this to days:

Method Route Time from Riyadh Suits
Full container to Mersin Riyadh → Jeddah → Suez → Mersin 18–28 days A full home and wholesale goods
Full container to Istanbul The same route, then the Aegean and Marmara 22–32 days Istanbul, Bursa and their surroundings
Part-load sea freight In a shared container 25–40 days Cartons and one or two rooms
RoRo for cars Carrier to Jeddah, then a car vessel 18–28 days A car that runs under its own power
Air King Khalid Airport → Istanbul 2–4 days Parcels, documents and samples

What lengthens the time?

  • Transhipment: some lines change vessel at an intermediate port, so sailing takes about three weeks.
  • Waiting for consolidation: a shared container does not move until it is full.
  • An incomplete file: a name on the bill of lading that does not match the passport stops Turkish clearance.
  • The owner’s absence: Turkish customs asks for the owner to attend the clearance of personal furniture.
  • Seasons: summer is the peak on this route, then Ramadan and the Eids.

Detailed times are on the transit times page.

Shipping prices from Riyadh to Turkey

The price of shipping from Riyadh has three parts: carriage from your home to the port or airport, the sea or air freight, and the services in Turkey if you ask for delivery to the door. We write each part as its own item, so you know what you pay and why. These are the prices our services start from:

What you ship Method Price starts from
A cubic metre Part-load sea freight SAR 415
Per kilogram above 100 kg Consolidated sea freight SAR 4.15 per kilogram
A bedroom Part-load sea freight SAR 1,100
20ft container Sea freight from Jeddah port SAR 4,600
40ft container Sea freight from Jeddah port SAR 5,200
A saloon car RoRo from Jeddah port to Mersin SAR 2,800
Documents up to one kilogram Express air SAR 83
A parcel up to 5 kg Air SAR 110
A parcel from 5 to 20 kg Air SAR 200
A 50 kg shipment Air SAR 1,100
Large weights, 300 kg and above Air SAR 17 per kilogram
Carriage from Riyadh to the port and delivery inside Turkey By volume and city Set on request

Prices quoted in the market for this route are higher than that: a cubic metre from SAR 450, a bedroom between SAR 1,200 and 1,800, one room of furniture door to door between SAR 3,500 and 5,500, a 20ft container with all services between SAR 11,500 and 14,000, a 40ft container between SAR 16,000 and 19,500, and a car between SAR 3,500 and 8,500. By air: documents between SAR 90 and 150, a parcel up to 5 kg between SAR 120 and 350, and a kilogram in small express parcels between SAR 70 and 160. Sea freight alone for a container is quoted between SAR 4,500 and 9,400 for a 20ft and between SAR 5,200 and 13,100 for a 40ft, and it moves with shipping-line rates, so we fix it for you on the day of booking.

What sets the price Its effect
The method Sea is cheaper for volume; air is several times dearer and faster
Volume or weight By the cubic metre at sea, and by chargeable weight in the air. Work it out with the CBM calculator
The Turkish port Mersin is nearer and cheaper than Istanbul and Izmir
Scope of service To the Turkish port, or to the consignee’s door with clearance
Added services Dismantling, packing, assembly, storage and insurance
The season Summer has higher demand, and early booking fixes the price and the space

How do you lower the cost?

  • Time your shipment to our regular runs to Jeddah port instead of a dedicated truck from Riyadh.
  • Choose a part load if your volume is under 15 cubic metres and your date is not pressing.
  • Ask for Mersin if your city is in the south or centre; its freight is lower than Istanbul’s.
  • Send only the urgent items by air and leave the rest to the sea.
  • Book three weeks before summer, as demand rises when the holidays begin.

The factors are explained on the pricing factors page.

Sea freight from Riyadh to Turkey

Sea freight from Riyadh to Turkey

Sea is the first choice for every large shipment: a full home, wholesale goods or a car. The question in Riyadh is how the container reaches the sea. There are two ways. The first is a truck carrying the container or the packed furniture to Jeddah Islamic Port. The second is the Riyadh dry port: the container is cleared for export there and sealed, then travels on the freight train about 550 km to King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam.

Comparison Through Jeddah port Through the dry port and Dammam
Inland carriage Truck, about 950 km Freight train, about 550 km
Export clearance At Jeddah port In Riyadh, before the container moves
Sailing to Turkey Straight to the Suez Canal Round the Arabian Peninsula first, so it is longer
When we choose it For most Turkey shipments When the Dammam sailing suits the schedule or cost better

We compare the two ways on the day of booking and choose the one that delivers your shipment sooner at a lower cost. Either way the container stays sealed from the moment it is closed until the Turkish port. Service details are on the sea freight page, and leaving through Jeddah port is covered in the article international sea freight from Jeddah.

A full container or a part load?

A full container is yours alone: it is loaded at your home or in our warehouse, sealed, and opened only in Turkey. A part load puts your shipment with other people’s in one container, and you pay only for the space you take. Volume and deadline settle the choice:

Comparison Full container Part load
You pay for The whole container What you take, by the cubic metre
Time from Riyadh 18–28 days to Mersin 25–40 days
Handling One loading and one unloading Consolidated and sorted in two warehouses
Suits A full home, or more than 15 cubic metres Cartons and one or two rooms
Price starts from SAR 4,600 for a 20ft container SAR 415 per cubic metre

How much fits in a container? The 20ft size takes roughly 28 cubic metres, enough for a flat of two or three rooms. The 40ft size takes roughly 58 cubic metres, enough for an entire home, or for furniture together with a car. See container sizes for the dimensions and the article container shipping prices from Jeddah for the prices.

The Turkish ports that receive the containers

Turkey is a large country, and between Mersin in the south and Istanbul in the north-west there are more than 900 km by road. So the choice of port is not a detail: a container bound for Adana is not sent to Istanbul, and one bound for Bursa is not discharged at Mersin. We choose the port nearest the consignee’s city with the best schedule:

Port Location Cities it serves
Mersin The south, on the Mediterranean Mersin, Adana, Gaziantep, Konya, Ankara, Antalya
Iskenderun The south, near Hatay Hatay and south-eastern Turkey
Ambarli Istanbul, the European side Istanbul and Thrace
Kocaeli and Gemlik East and south of the Sea of Marmara Asian Istanbul, Bursa, Yalova, Sakarya
Izmir The west, on the Aegean Izmir and the western cities

Mersin is the first large Turkish port reached by ships leaving the Suez Canal. That makes it the shortest in time and usually the cheapest in freight. Details are on the ports and gateways page.

Furniture shipping from Riyadh to Turkey

Furniture shipping from Riyadh to Turkey

Furniture leaving Riyadh for Turkey travels about a thousand kilometres by road, then stays in the container for weeks in sea humidity, then is opened before Turkish customs. Packing and the inventory are therefore conditions of both safety and clearance. We park the container at the door of the house or tower when the site allows, so the furniture is loaded once and not reloaded at the port.

  • Survey: by photos or at home, to estimate the volume and choose the container.
  • Dismantling: we take apart wardrobes, bedrooms, kitchens and sitting rooms, and collect each piece’s screws in a bag that bears its number and is fixed to it, so nothing goes missing at assembly in Turkey.
  • Packing against sea humidity: blankets for wood, then tight plastic wrap, and desiccant bags in the cartons of appliances and clothes.
  • Numbered inventory: a list of every piece and carton, with the brand and serial number of each electrical appliance, because Turkish customs asks for them.
  • Loading: heavy items at the bottom, gaps filled, and the load lashed inside the container.
  • In Turkey: unloading and carrying into the flat, and assembly if you ask for it.

In Riyadh’s residential towers we arrange the lift slot and the truck bay with the building management before loading day. Many older blocks in Istanbul have no wide lift, so give us the floor and the stair width with the Turkish address. Service details are on the furniture shipping page.

Shipping electrical appliances and electronics

The fridge, washing machine, air conditioner and television are what suffer most on a long journey if loaded as they stand. Shock harms the compressor and the screen, and humidity harms the circuit boards. So appliances are prepared before packing, not after.

  • Fridge and freezer: unplugged a day ahead and dried, and shipped upright.
  • Washing machine: the drum is fixed with its transit bolts and the water drained.
  • Air conditioner: a refrigeration technician removes it and pumps the gas down into the outdoor unit.
  • Televisions: in a reinforced carton with foam corners, or a wooden crate for large sizes.
  • Small devices: batteries removed, and desiccant bags packed with them.

Mind two things before shipping appliances. The first is technical: Turkey’s electricity is 230 volts at 50 hertz and the sockets are European with two round pins, so you need a plug adaptor, and check the label of any appliance with a motor to see whether it accepts 50 hertz. The second is customs: a used appliance is not shipped in its original carton, so that it is not treated as new, and a duplicate appliance of the same kind may be charged duty.

Packing for a road journey and then a sea voyage

A Riyadh shipment shakes on the road for hundreds of kilometres before it boards the ship, then heat and humidity change around it between the Red Sea and the Mediterranean. Packing allows for both: shock and humidity. Every piece carries a number matching the inventory, so it is identified at customs inspection without opening every carton.

  • Against shock: multi-layer bubble wrap, double-wall corrugated cartons, and corner guards for tables and doors.
  • For glass, marble and mirrors: foam and wooden crates, loaded upright, not flat.
  • Against humidity: tight plastic wrap and desiccants; leather is not wrapped directly in plastic.
  • Inside the container: stowage that fills the space, and straps that stop the load moving.
  • Record: photos of every piece before packing and after loading.

Packing methods are in the packing guide.

Shipping parcels and personal effects

A student’s suitcases, gifts for the family, cartons of clothes and books, and dates in season. These go by air if they are under about 100 kg or urgent, and by part-load sea freight if they are larger and not pressed by a date. Turkish customs treats a personal parcel strictly, so know its rules before you close the carton:

  • Price by air: a parcel up to 5 kg from SAR 110, and from 5 to 20 kg from SAR 200.
  • Price by sea: from SAR 415 per cubic metre, or from SAR 4.15 per kilogram above 100 kg.
  • Clearance: no parcel passes without a customs declaration, however small or large its value, and writing “gift” on it changes nothing.
  • Weight of a personal parcel: in current practice no more than 30 kg; anything above is treated as a commercial shipment.
  • Consignee details: the name as on the ID, the Turkish ID number or foreigner’s number, and a Turkish mobile number.

Details are on the parcel shipping page.

Shipping commercial goods and containers

Trade between the Kingdom and Turkey is active in both directions. From Riyadh go dates, plastics and petrochemicals, packaging materials and re-export goods. Commercial goods enter Turkey in the name of an importer with a tax number, through a licensed customs broker. What is prepared correctly in Riyadh passes the Turkish port without a stop.

Item Shipping method What it needs
Dates and foodstuffs A dry or refrigerated container A health certificate and certificate of origin, and approval from the Turkish agricultural authority
Plastics and petrochemicals A full container, in bags or on pallets A product data sheet and a detailed invoice
Appliances and electronics Sea with shock-proof packing, or air An invoice with model numbers, and Turkish conformity certificates
Commercial samples Air An invoice marked “sample of no commercial value”
Exhibition equipment Sea or air, depending on the date A temporary admission carnet when the equipment returns
Spare parts Sea for quantities, air for urgent items Part numbers on the invoice

A regular exporter gets a fixed schedule, collection from the factory or warehouse in Riyadh, and delivery to the factory door in Turkey on request. Details are on the commercial shipping page.

Car shipping from Riyadh to Turkey

The car is not driven from Riyadh to the port. A car carrier collects it from your home or the showroom and takes it to Jeddah port in one to two days. There it ships in one of two ways, then sails to Mersin in most cases, as that is the Turkish port with the most car sailings:

Method How it works Suits
RoRo The port driver drives the car up a ramp into the vessel’s hold, and it is lashed by its wheels An ordinary car that runs under its own power; the cheapest way
20ft container One car secured with straps and chocks, and the container sealed Luxury, classic and non-running cars
40ft container Two cars, or a car with the household furniture A family moving with its furniture and car

RoRo starts from SAR 2,800 for a saloon from Jeddah port to Mersin, and a 20ft container from SAR 4,600, plus the carriage of the car from Riyadh. On RoRo the car ships empty with a quarter tank of fuel. The comparison is on the RoRo car shipping and container car shipping pages.

Conditions for a car entering Turkey

Turkey’s rules on cars are among the strictest in the region. The first question before shipping is not “how much?” but “can my car enter, and how long can it stay?”. A Saudi car usually enters on temporary admission with its own plate, not as an import. This is what the Turkish Ministry of Trade sets in current practice, and we confirm what is in force before any booking:

Item The rule in practice
Residence abroad The owner must have lived outside Turkey for at least 185 days in the last year
Length of stay Up to 730 days for a Turkish national living abroad and a holder of a Turkish residence permit, and 90 days in any 180 for others
Number One private car per person, registered in their name or with authorisation from its owner
Owner’s presence The owner attends the clearance, and the car is entered on their passport
Insurance A policy valid inside Turkey for the whole stay
Sale and hire Not allowed while the car is on its foreign plate
Permanent import Tightly restricted for used cars, with high taxes, so it does not suit most cases

On the Saudi side: a car that will return leaves on a temporary exit permit and keeps its plates, and a financed car needs a no-objection letter from the lender. We prepare the triptik before departure; it is explained on the triptik and carnet page. Full details are in the article car shipping from Jeddah to Turkey.

Turkish customs on used furniture and new goods

Turkish customs separates three things: used furniture of someone moving to live there, new goods, and a personal parcel. The first is exempt on conditions, the second pays duty and tax, and the third is cleared on a declaration. This is a summary of current practice; the rules change, so we review what is in force with our broker in Turkey before the shipment moves:

Item Current practice
Who qualifies for the furniture exemption A foreigner holding a valid work or residence permit, and a Turkish national returning for good after living abroad
Proof of housing A tenancy contract notarised for at least one year, or the property’s title deed
Those with neither contract nor deed Bring their furniture in on temporary admission against a deposit or a bank guarantee letter
Condition of the goods Used and in proportion to the size of the family. New items and duplicate appliances are charged duty
Arrival date Within a set window around the owner’s date of entry, commonly from two months before it to 6 months after
Owner’s presence Usually required, and the name on the bill of lading matches the passport letter for letter
New goods Customs duty by item and origin, value added tax at a general rate of 20%, and a special consumption tax on some items
Personal parcel No low-value exemption: every parcel has a declaration, duty and tax

Note: do not ship your furniture before your Turkish residence permit is issued or your housing contract is complete. Furniture that arrives before its owner’s papers waits at the port at the owner’s expense. The procedures are on the customs clearance page.

Documents required for shipping from Riyadh to Turkey

Our rule: the shipment does not leave Riyadh before its file is complete and checked. A gap is corrected here in an hour, and costs days and storage at the Turkish port. The file differs by the type of shipment:

Type of shipment Documents Note
Furniture and effects of someone relocating Passport, Turkish residence or work permit, the notarised tenancy contract or title deed, a detailed inventory, the bill of lading, and the Turkish tax number A notarised power of attorney for the broker in Turkey
Commercial goods The bill of lading, the certificate of origin, the commercial invoice with its packing list, then the Turkish importer’s details and tax number Some items need health or conformity certificates
A car Registration, passport, driving licence, exit permit or export certificate, triptik, and an insurance policy valid in Turkey Checked against the entry conditions before booking
Personal parcels The sender’s ID, a statement of contents and their value, and the consignee’s details and Turkish ID number Within personal use

Each document is explained on the shipping documents page.

What cannot be shipped to Turkey or needs a permit

A prohibited item is not held on its own; it stops the whole parcel or container until it is decided. That is why we review the contents before collection. These are the main items:

Item Rule
Drugs, weapons and ammunition, and explosives Prohibited
Meat and meat products in personal effects Prohibited
Plants, seeds and seedlings With a plant health certificate, and prohibited in personal parcels
Mobile phones in parcels Not delivered to individuals by post or express
Cosmetics, perfumes and food supplements Not accepted for individuals in parcels; commercially with permits
Medicines On prescription and in a personal quantity
Wireless communication equipment Restricted, with a prior permit
E-cigarettes and their liquids Prohibited
Antiquities and old coins Not shipped, and taking them out of Turkey is prohibited
Cash, gold and original documents Not shipped with furniture; they stay with you

Anything not listed here is on the prohibited items page. And if you hesitate over an object, ask us while it is still outside the carton, not after it is taped shut.

The Turkish cities we deliver to

Shipments from Riyadh arriving in Istanbul

After customs release the shipment moves on a Turkish truck to the consignee’s city. Clearance first, then delivery: the container does not leave the port before its duties are paid and the release is issued. We deliver to the major cities and their surroundings:

City Port or airport of arrival Note
Istanbul Ambarli by sea, and Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Airport by air State the European or Asian side, as the city lies on two continents
Bursa, Yalova and Sapanca Gemlik, Kocaeli or Ambarli A common destination for owners of summer homes
Ankara Mersin, then about 480 km by road And by air through Istanbul
Izmir Izmir port And from there to the Aegean cities
Antalya Mersin, then by road Direct flights from Riyadh in season
Trabzon and Rize By road from Istanbul or Mersin The furthest cities by road, so delivery adds about two days
Mersin, Adana and Gaziantep Mersin port The shortest and cheapest routes

Write the address in Turkish: the neighbourhood (Mahalle), the street, the building and flat number, and the district and city, with a Turkish mobile number. Destination details are on the shipping to Turkey page.

Door-to-door shipping

Most of our customers do not want to deal with two ports, two customs authorities and three carriers. With door-to-door service you deal with one party and one number: we collect from your home in Riyadh, carry to the port, book the vessel, clear in Turkey through our broker, and deliver to the flat, carry the furniture in and assemble it.

  • What the price covers: collection and packing, inland carriage, sea freight, clearance on both sides, and delivery and unloading.
  • What it does not cover: Turkish duties and taxes if due, and port storage if the consignee’s papers are late.
  • The cheaper alternative: delivery at the Turkish port for those who have a broker and a truck there.

Details are on the door-to-door shipping page.

Air freight from Riyadh to Turkey

Air freight from Riyadh to Turkey

Air needs no carriage to another city, as the shipment leaves from King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. There are daily direct flights between Riyadh and Istanbul, to Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Airport, and the flight takes about four hours. Door to door it takes two to 4 days to Istanbul, and 3 to 5 days to Ankara, Izmir and Antalya through Istanbul, including clearance at both airports.

  • For: documents, parcels, commercial samples, students’ suitcases and urgent spare parts.
  • Charging: on the greater of actual and volumetric weight, which is length × width × height in centimetres ÷ 6000. Work it out with the volumetric weight calculator.
  • Price: from SAR 83 for documents, from SAR 110 for a parcel of no more than 5 kg, from SAR 1,100 for a shipment weighing 50 kg, and from SAR 17 a kilogram on large weights.
  • Not suited to: furniture, ordinary cars and bulky goods, which cost several times more by air than by sea.
  • Restricted by air: lithium batteries only inside their devices; flammable liquids and compressed gases are prohibited.

Details are on the air freight page and in the article air freight from Jeddah to Turkey.

Air or sea to Turkey?

The question is not which is better, but which suits this shipment. The working rule: anything under 100 kg or with a deadline goes by air, and anything above goes by sea. Many combine the two: the furniture in the container, and what they need in the first week in an air parcel.

Comparison Air Sea
Time from Riyadh 2–5 days 18–40 days
Charging Per kilogram on chargeable weight By the cubic metre or by the container
Suits Documents, parcels, samples and urgent items Furniture, cars and heavy goods
Point of departure King Khalid Airport in Riyadh Jeddah port, or the dry port then Dammam
Price starts from SAR 17 per kilogram for large weights SAR 415 per cubic metre

The full comparison is on the shipping methods comparison page.

Is there land freight from Riyadh to Turkey?

Many ask about it, and we do not rely on it for this route. Turkey has no land border with the Kingdom, and the road to it crosses Jordan and Syria or Iraq, with transit clearance in each country and procedures that change. The sea delivers the container sealed from Riyadh to the Turkish port without being opened on the way, at a lower cost per cubic metre. So we ship to Turkey by sea and air only, and keep road freight for the Gulf states, Jordan and Syria; its details are on the land freight page.

Collection from Riyadh’s districts and nearby towns

We pack and load at your location, in any district of Riyadh: Al Malqa, Hittin, Al Yasmin and Al Narjis in the north, Al Olaya and Al Sulaimaniyah in the centre, Al Rawdah and Al Naseem in the east, and Al Shifa and Al Aziziyah in the south. We also collect from nearby towns and from factories and warehouses in the industrial cities:

Place Distance from Riyadh Note
Riyadh’s districts and Diriyah Inside the city Collection from the door with dismantling and packing
Towers and residential compounds Inside the city Lift and truck bay arranged with the management
Industrial cities and warehouses Inside the city and on its edges The container loaded at the factory site
Al Kharj About 80 km Collected the day before loading
Al Muzahimiyah About 60 km On the Jeddah road, so it joins the same run
Qassim About 350 km For dates especially, added to the Riyadh run

Your furniture may be ready before your papers are: the Turkish flat is still being prepared, or the residence permit has not come through. In that case what we collected from you stays in our warehouse, inventoried and numbered, and moves to the port only when you ask. The terms are on the storage page, and our services in the capital are in the article international shipping company in Riyadh.

  5. Collection and packing: at your address, with a numbered inventory and photos.
  6. Carriage and export: to Jeddah port, the dry port or King Khalid Airport, with export clearance.
  7. Shipping and tracking: you receive the container or waybill number, and an update at every stage.
  8. Clearance and delivery: our broker in Turkey completes the procedures, then delivery at the port or to the door.

Tracking and insurance

Weeks lie between loading in Riyadh and delivery in Turkey, and a gap in the news weighs on a customer more than the wait itself. So the update comes from us at every milestone: departure from Riyadh, then arrival at the port, then sailing, then transit of the Suez Canal, then arrival in Turkey, then the issue of the release.

  • Tracking: enter the waybill or container number on the airline’s or shipping line’s website to see where your shipment is. The method is on the track your shipment page.
  • Record: photos of every piece before packing and after loading, the basis of any claim.
  • Insurance: yours to take or leave, with a premium set as a share of the value you declare. We think it worth having when the shipment is a car, appliances or the furniture of a whole home. Its terms are on the cargo insurance page.
  • On receipt: check the pieces against the list, and note any remark before signing.

Shipping from Turkey to Riyadh

The route works in both directions, and more comes from Turkey than goes to it: furniture, furnishings and carpets from Istanbul, Bursa and Inegol, clothes and fabrics, and finishing materials. We collect from the factory or shop and combine your purchases from several suppliers into one shipment. The container sails from Ambarli or Mersin to Jeddah, then travels by road to Riyadh after clearance. Air to King Khalid Airport takes 3 to 5 days.

  • Saudi customs: duty by item, and 15% value added tax.
  • Conformity: before commercial goods covered by the technical regulations are shipped, they must be registered on the SABER platform.
  • Personal effects: a Saudi returning from residence in Turkey brings in used effects on a list of contents.

Tips before shipping to Turkey

  • Complete your Turkish residence permit and notarised housing contract before you set the shipping date.
  • Obtain your Turkish tax number early, as it is required at clearance.
  • Do not ship new appliances in their cartons with the used furniture.
  • Write your name on the bill of lading exactly as in the passport, letter for letter.
  • Plan your travel so that you are in Turkey on the day the container arrives.
  • Keep original papers, gold and medicines with you on the flight.

Securing methods inside the container are on the packing and lashing page.

How do you choose a shipping company from Riyadh to Turkey?

Offers are many and their figures far apart. The reason is that each offer covers something different. So before you compare prices, compare what each price covers. These signs separate someone who knows the route from someone selling a promise:

What you ask about Reassuring sign Warning sign
Premises and registration A commercial registration, an address and a collection receipt An unknown account and a mobile number only
Turkish customs Asks about your residence permit and housing contract before pricing “Everything enters duty-free”
Time A door-to-door time with a realistic margin “One week by sea from Riyadh”
Price Itemised: inland carriage, sea, clearance, delivery One figure and you do not know what it covers
Cars Explains temporary entry and its length “We will register it for you on a Turkish plate”
In Turkey A known broker at the port of arrival Their role ends at Jeddah port

Common mistakes when shipping to Turkey

  • Shipping furniture before the residence permit is issued or the tenancy contract notarised.
  • Loading furniture without an inventory of brands and serial numbers.
  • Putting a phone, perfume or supplements in a personal parcel.
  • Writing “gift” on the parcel in the belief that it exempts it from duty.
  • Shipping a car intending to register or sell it in Turkey.
  • Choosing a port far from the consignee’s city because its freight is lower.
  • Comparing a “to the port” price with a “to the door” price as if they were the same.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Riyadh to Turkey

How much does shipping from Riyadh to Turkey cost?

A cubic metre in part-load sea freight starts from SAR 415, a bedroom from SAR 1,100, a 20ft container from SAR 4,600 from Jeddah port, and a saloon car by RoRo from SAR 2,800. By air: documents from SAR 83 and a parcel up to 5 kg from SAR 110. The final price follows the volume and the Turkish city. Call 0552803439.

How long does shipping from Riyadh to Turkey take?

By air, two to 4 days to Istanbul. By sea in a full container, 18 to 28 days to Mersin and 22 to 32 days to Istanbul. As a part load, 25 to 40 days. The times run from your door in Riyadh.

How is a container shipped by sea when Riyadh has no port?

It is trucked to Jeddah Islamic Port in most cases, or cleared at the Riyadh dry port and carried by train to Dammam port. Then it sails to Turkey. We manage both stages as one operation.

Which Turkish port does the shipment arrive at?

Mersin for the cities of the south and centre; it is the nearest large Turkish port to the Suez Canal. Ambarli in Istanbul for the north-west. Izmir or Iskenderun depending on the consignee’s city.

Is there land freight from Riyadh to Turkey?

We do not rely on it. Turkey has no border with the Kingdom, and the road crosses more than one country with transit procedures that change. Sea is for furniture, goods and cars, and air is for urgent items.

Do my used household goods enter Turkey duty-free?

In current practice, the used furniture of someone moving to live there is exempt on conditions: a residence or work permit, a notarised one-year tenancy contract or a title deed, a detailed inventory, and the owner’s presence at clearance. We confirm the conditions in force before shipping.

What duties apply to new goods in Turkey?

Customs duty by item and country of origin, value added tax at a general rate of 20%, and a special consumption tax on some items. The consignee pays them, and our broker tells them the amount before payment.

Do you ship cars from Riyadh to Turkey?

Yes. A carrier takes the car from Riyadh to Jeddah port, then it ships by RoRo or in a container to Mersin. RoRo starts from SAR 2,800 for a saloon from Jeddah port.

Can I register my Saudi car in Turkey?

Usually not. Permanent import of used cars is tightly restricted. What is practical is temporary entry on the Saudi plate, for a period set by the owner’s status.

Do you ship parcels and suitcases?

Yes, by air from King Khalid Airport. A parcel up to 5 kg from SAR 110, from 5 to 20 kg from SAR 200, and large weights from SAR 17 per kilogram.

Does the consignee pay customs on a personal parcel?

Yes. Turkey clears every parcel on a customs declaration whatever its value, and the word “gift” does not exempt it. Tell the consignee before shipping that duty and tax are due on receipt.

What cannot be sent in parcels to Turkey?

Mobile phones, cosmetics and food supplements are not delivered to individuals by post or express. Medicines only on prescription and in a personal quantity.

Will my electrical appliances work in Turkey?

Turkey’s electricity is 230 volts at 50 hertz, and the sockets are European with two round pins. Most appliances work with a plug adaptor; check the label of any appliance with a motor to see whether it accepts 50 hertz.

Is the shipment insured?

Insurance is optional and calculated as a percentage of the declared value. We advise it for full household furniture, cars and appliances, because the journey combines a long road leg and a sea voyage.

Do you ship from Turkey to Riyadh?

Yes. We collect from Istanbul, Bursa and elsewhere, and ship by sea from Mersin or Ambarli to Jeddah and then by road to Riyadh, or by air to King Khalid Airport.
