Who ships from Madinah to Turkey, and what do they ship?
This route differs from the Riyadh and Jeddah routes in the kind of people who use it. Most of the demand comes from Turkish visitors who end their journey in Madinah with suitcases that dates, rugs and gifts have pushed beyond what the aircraft allows. After them come Madinah residents who own a flat in Istanbul, Bursa or Yalova, the Turkish resident going home, and the date trader. Each has a method that suits the size of the shipment and its deadline:
| Shipper | What they ship | Best method |
|---|---|---|
| Turkish visitor or Umrah pilgrim | Excess suitcases, dates, rugs and gifts | Air freight from Madinah airport |
| Family moving to live in Turkey | A full household of furniture and appliances | 20ft or 40ft container |
| Owner of a flat or summer home | One or two rooms and soft furnishings | Part-load sea freight by the cubic metre |
| Turkish worker returning from Madinah | Household effects and the car | Container, and RoRo for the car |
| Date trader and exporter | Packed dates and assorted goods | Full or shared container, and air for samples |
| Someone with urgent paperwork | Documents, samples and spare parts | Express air freight |
What is particular about shipping from Madinah?
Madinah has a position of its own among the cities of western Saudi Arabia. It has an international airport and no port. An air shipment therefore leaves from the city directly, while a sea shipment needs road transport to the coast before it sails. Most districts are on level ground, so the truck reaches the door of the house with no shuttle vehicle. The surroundings of the Prophet’s Mosque, however, are crowded with hotels and pedestrians, and the entry of large trucks to the city centre is regulated by hours set by the traffic department and tightened in the seasons; we confirm the hours in force before loading day.
| Particular | Its effect | How we handle it |
|---|---|---|
| An international airport inside the city | An air shipment does not normally need transport to Jeddah | Handed over at Madinah’s Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz Airport; Jeddah airport comes in only when no flight fits |
| No port in Madinah | The container travels by road to the coast | A truck to Jeddah port, about 420 km, with a confirmed booking on the vessel |
| Hotels of the central area | No room for a truck to wait or for lengthy packing | A small vehicle collects suitcases and cartons from reception |
| Regulated truck entry to the centre | Loading within set hours | We fix the appointment in advance and load in the permitted window |
| Dates | A food product affected by heat and pressure | Ventilated cartons, and health paperwork for commercial quantities |
| Visiting seasons | Pressure on flights, hotels and roads | Early booking, and short-term storage if the flight is delayed |
The route from Madinah to Turkey and its transit time
The time we quote starts at the door of your home or hotel in Madinah and ends at the consignee’s door. The sailing is one part of the journey; before it come collection, transport to the port and clearance, and after it come Turkish clearance and delivery. These are the stages of a full container through Jeddah port:
| Stage | What happens | Usual time |
|---|---|---|
| Collection in Madinah | Dismantling, packing, inventory and loading | 1–2 days |
| Transport to the port | A truck from Madinah to Jeddah port, about 420 km | One day |
| Export and waiting for the vessel | Export clearance and handing the container to the shipping line | 3–7 days |
| Sailing | Jeddah → Suez Canal → Mersin | 7–12 days on a direct service |
| Turkish clearance | Customs declaration, inspection and payment of charges | 3–5 working days |
| Delivery inside Turkey | From the port to the consignee’s city | 1–3 days |
Not every shipment leaving Madinah takes the same time. A vessel reaches Mersin before the ports serving Istanbul and Bursa because Mersin is nearer, a part load stays in the warehouse until its container is complete, and an aircraft shortens the whole journey to a few days:
| Method | Route | Time from Madinah | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Air | Madinah airport → Istanbul | 2–4 days | Luggage, parcels, documents and dates |
| Full container to Mersin | Madinah → Jeddah → Suez → Mersin | 18–28 days | A full household and wholesale goods |
| Full container to Istanbul or Gemlik | The same route, then the Aegean and the Sea of Marmara | 22–32 days | Istanbul, Bursa and their surroundings |
| Part-load sea freight | Consolidation at the warehouse, then a shared container | 25–40 days | Cartons and one or two rooms |
| RoRo for cars | Transporter to Jeddah, then a car carrier vessel | 18–28 days | A car that runs under its own power |
What lengthens the transit time?
- Transhipment: some lines change vessel at an intermediate port, which makes the sailing about three weeks.
- Waiting for consolidation: a shared container does not move until it is full.
- Visiting seasons: in Ramadan and Hajj the airport and the roads around Madinah are congested, and summer is the peak of demand for Turkey.
- An incomplete file: a name on the bill of lading that does not match the passport stops Turkish clearance.
- The owner’s absence: Turkish customs asks for the owner’s presence to clear personal household goods.
Detailed times are on the transit times page.
Shipping prices from Madinah to Turkey
Anyone looking for the cheapest shipping company from Madinah to Turkey first needs to know what the price is made of. It has three parts: transport from your address to the airport or port, the air or sea freight, and the services in Turkey if you ask for delivery to the door. We write each part as a separate line, so you know what you are paying and why. These are the prices our services start from:
| What you ship | Method | Price starts from |
|---|---|---|
| Documents up to one kilogram | Express air | SAR 83 |
| Parcel up to 5 kg | Air | SAR 110 |
| Parcel from 5 to 20 kg | Air | SAR 200 |
| A 50 kg shipment | Air | SAR 1,100 |
| Large weights, 300 kg and above | Air | SAR 17 per kg |
| One cubic metre | Part-load sea freight | SAR 415 |
| By the kilogram above 100 kg | Consolidated sea freight | SAR 4.15 per kg |
| A bedroom | Part-load sea freight | SAR 1,100 |
| 20ft container | Sea freight from Jeddah port | SAR 4,600 |
| 40ft container | Sea freight from Jeddah port | SAR 5,200 |
| Saloon car | RoRo from Jeddah port to Mersin | SAR 2,800 |
| Transport from Madinah to the port and delivery inside Turkey | By volume and city | Set on request |
The prices quoted in the market for this route are higher than that. By air: documents between SAR 90 and 150, a parcel up to 5 kg between SAR 120 and 360, a medium parcel of 20 kg between SAR 950 and 2,300, and a kilogram in small express parcels between SAR 75 and 170. By sea: a parcel up to 50 kg between SAR 500 and 1,300, a cubic metre from SAR 450, a bedroom between SAR 1,200 and 1,800, the sea freight for a 20ft container between SAR 4,800 and 9,500 and for a 40ft container between SAR 5,500 and 13,000, and a car between SAR 3,800 and 9,000. Sea freight moves with the shipping lines’ rates, so we fix it for you on the day of booking.
| What sets the price | Its effect |
|---|---|
| The method | Sea is cheaper for volume; air costs several times more and is faster |
| Volume or weight | By the cubic metre at sea and by chargeable weight in the air. Work it out with the CBM calculator |
| The Turkish port | Mersin is nearer and cheaper than Istanbul and Izmir |
| Scope of service | To the Turkish port or airport, or to the consignee’s door with clearance |
| Collection point in Madinah | Hotels in the central area need a small vehicle, and the governorates add their distance |
| The season | Ramadan, Hajj and summer bring higher demand; early booking fixes the price and the space |
How do you lower the cost?
- Fit your shipment to our regular runs from Madinah to Jeddah port instead of a dedicated truck.
- Choose a part load if your volume is under 15 cubic metres and your deadline is not tight.
- Combine the suitcases of the family or group in one air shipment; a larger weight costs less per kilogram.
- Send only the urgent items by air and leave the rest to the sea.
- Ask for Mersin if the consignee’s city is in the south or centre; its freight is lower than Istanbul’s.
The factors are explained on the pricing factors page.
Offers on shipping from Madinah to Turkey, and how to pay
We do not announce a fixed discount and then raise the base price. A discount with us has a reason that is written in the offer: a larger volume, a repeat shipment, or a flexible date that lets us combine your shipment with others. Payment is by bank transfer or card, and its timing is agreed at booking.
- For groups and tour parties: the price per kilogram falls when the group’s suitcases are combined in one shipment.
- For repeat shipping: a trader who sends every month gets an agreed fixed rate.
- For furniture plus a car: a 40ft container takes both, so the freight is split between the two.
- For early booking: three weeks ahead of the seasons, the price is fixed before demand rises.
Shipping visitors’ luggage from Madinah to Turkey

A Turkish visitor arrives in Madinah with one suitcase and leaves with three. Dates for the family, prayer rugs, perfumes and gifts for the neighbours, all of it above the weight the ticket allows. Excess baggage at the airport is charged at a high rate, and on crowded flights it may not be accepted at all. The answer is to travel with your hand luggage and leave the rest to us: we collect it from your hotel and ship it to your city in Turkey.
Collection is simple because it is designed for people short of time. A small vehicle comes to the hotel reception in the central area at the time you set and takes the suitcases and cartons closed and weighed. If you are travelling on the Haramain train to Jeddah or Makkah, we collect from you at the railway station before you board, since the train carries passengers and their ordinary bags and does not carry shipments.
- What we collect: suitcases, cartons of dates and gifts, rugs, books and copies of the Qur’an.
- Preparation: we weigh each piece in front of you, wrap and number the suitcase, and you receive a receipt with the number of pieces and their weight.
- Method: by air from Madinah airport in 2–4 days, or by sea as a part load for large quantities.
- Consignee details: the name as on the identity card, the Turkish identity number, a Turkish mobile number and the address in Turkish.
- Clearance: the luggage is cleared with a customs declaration in its owner’s name, and we confirm before shipping what is treated as personal effects.
- For groups: we collect all the party’s suitcases at once, and each one is delivered to its owner in their own city.
Shipping Madinah dates and gifts to Turkey
The Madinah region is among the Kingdom’s largest date-producing regions, and its central market sells Ajwa, Safawi, Sukkari and Medjool all year round. Dates are what visitors carry most, and what Turkish traders order most from Madinah. They are a food product, though, so shipping them differs from shipping clothes and gifts in both packing and paperwork.
| Shipment | Method | What it needs |
|---|---|---|
| Cartons of dates with a visitor’s luggage | Air, with the suitcases | Factory-sealed packs, in a personal quantity whose limit we confirm before packing |
| Dates in a commercial quantity | Dry or refrigerated container, or air for urgent orders | Invoice, certificate of origin and health certificate, and a Turkish importer with a tax number |
| Rugs, prayer beads and gifts | Air or part-load sea freight | A statement of the contents and their value |
| Perfumes and oud oil | Not sent in personal parcels | Commercially with their permits, and by air under the liquids restrictions |
We pack dates in ventilated cartons that are not crushed under suitcases, and in summer we load them late at night or early in the morning so they do not sit in the heat. Zamzam water is not shipped; its export is prohibited apart from the dedicated pack a traveller carries with them.
Door-to-door parcel shipping from Madinah to Turkey
A small parcel does not need you to come to an office. We collect it from your home, office or hotel in Madinah, pack it if it is not packed, and it reaches the consignee’s door in their Turkish city. Turkish customs treats a personal parcel strictly, so know its rules before you seal the carton:
- Price by air: a parcel up to 5 kg from SAR 110, and from 5 to 20 kg from SAR 200.
- Price by sea: from SAR 415 per cubic metre, or from SAR 4.15 per kg above 100 kg.
- Clearance: no parcel enters Turkey without a customs declaration, however small its value, and calling it a “gift” changes nothing.
- Weight of a personal parcel: the ceiling in current practice is 30 kg, and a heavier parcel is handled as a commercial consignment.
- What not to put in it: mobile phones, cosmetics and food supplements are not delivered to individuals in parcels.
Details are on the parcel shipping and door-to-door shipping pages.
Sea freight from Madinah to the ports of Turkey
Sea is the first choice for every large shipment: a full household, wholesale goods or a car. The question in Madinah is which port the container leaves from. Two ports on the Red Sea coast are within reach. Yanbu Commercial Port is nearer, at about 220 km. Jeddah Islamic Port is further, at about 420 km, but it is the Kingdom’s largest port and has the most sailings to the Mediterranean. Nearness alone is not enough: the container needs a vessel sailing to Turkey on a near date.
| Comparison | Through Jeddah Islamic Port | Through Yanbu Commercial Port |
|---|---|---|
| Distance from Madinah | About 420 km | About 220 km |
| Sailings to Turkey | A sailing every one to two weeks towards Mersin, direct or with transhipment | Not regular, and confirmed for each shipment |
| Car shipping by RoRo | Available | Confirmed on request |
| When we choose it | For most shipments to Turkey | When a suitable sailing is available that saves road distance |
That is why we present Jeddah as the usual route and ask about Yanbu on the day of booking. After leaving port the vessel heads north up the Red Sea and passes through the Suez Canal into the Mediterranean. It calls at Mersin for the cities of the south and centre, Iskenderun for Hatay, Izmir for the cities of the west, or Ambarli, Gemlik and Kocaeli for Istanbul and Bursa.
To read further: the ports and gateways page introduces the ports of departure and arrival, the article international sea freight from Jeddah deals with the port a Madinah container sails from, and the sea freight page sets out the whole service.
Shipping furniture and goods: consolidation at the warehouse, then a container

Not everyone who ships fills a container. Someone sending a bedroom or twenty cartons pays for their own space only. We collect the shipment from Madinah and move it to the consolidation warehouse, where it is stowed with other people’s shipments in a 40ft container bound for the same Turkish port. Each shipment has its own invoice, packing list and numbers, so it is not mixed with another at unloading.
Someone who fills a container alone has it loaded at the house or at the warehouse, sealed, and opened only in front of Turkish customs. The choice between the two is settled by volume and deadline:
| Comparison | Full container | Part load |
|---|---|---|
| You pay for | The whole container | The cubic metres you occupy |
| Time from Madinah | 18–28 days to Mersin | 25–40 days |
| Handling | One loading and one unloading | Consolidated and sorted in two warehouses |
| Documents | One bill of lading in your name | An invoice and packing list for each shipment in the container |
| Best for | A full household, or more than 15 cubic metres | Cartons and one or two rooms |
| Price starts from | SAR 4,600 for a 20ft container | SAR 415 per cubic metre |
How do you tell which of the two containers is enough? The twenty-foot container takes about 28 cubic metres, roughly the furniture of a flat with two or three rooms. The forty-foot one takes about 58 cubic metres, enough for a whole house, or for furniture shipped together with a car. The container sizes page gives the dimensions of each, and the article container shipping prices from Jeddah details their rates.
Shipping household furniture from Madinah to Turkey
Household furniture leaving Madinah travels four hundred kilometres by road, then stays in the container for weeks in sea humidity, then is opened in front of Turkish customs. So the work begins before loading day: a survey that sets the volume and the container type, and an inventory written once and fit for clearance. In most districts of Madinah the container stands at the door of the house, so the furniture is loaded once and not reloaded at the port.
- Survey: by photos or at the house, to estimate the volume and choose the container.
- Dismantling: we take apart bedrooms, sitting rooms, wardrobes and kitchens, and each piece keeps its screws in a numbered bag fastened to it.
- Numbered inventory: every piece and carton goes on a list, and for electrical appliances the list records the brand and the serial number, since Turkish customs requires both.
- Loading: heavy items at the bottom, gaps filled, and the load lashed inside the container.
- In Turkey: unloading and carrying into the flat, assembly if you ask for it, and arranging the rooms in the order of priority you set.
Before the container leaves Madinah we ask about the building in Turkey: which floor is the flat on, and how wide are the stairs? Many older blocks in Bursa and Istanbul lack a wide lift, and knowing this in advance lets us prepare properly for carrying the furniture in. The furniture shipping page explains the service.
Professional packing, and shipping electrical appliances and electronics
Between Madinah and Jeddah port lies a long stretch of road on which the load is shaken, and after it come two seas with different temperatures and humidity, the Red Sea and then the Mediterranean. So we pack against two risks at once, shock and humidity. Each piece is labelled with the number it has in the inventory, which lets the customs officer identify it at inspection without having all the cartons opened.
- Against shock: bubble wrap in several layers, cartons of double-wall corrugated board, and guards on the corners of tables and doors.
- For glass, marble and mirrors: foam and wooden crates, loaded upright and not flat.
- Against humidity: blankets for wood and then tight stretch film, desiccant bags in the cartons, and leather is never wrapped directly in plastic.
- Inside the container: stowage that fills the space, and straps that stop the load moving.
- Record: photos of every piece before packing and after loading.
- Electrical appliances: we disconnect the fridge a day before loading and ship it standing, fix the washing machine drum with its transit bolts, have a refrigeration technician remove the air conditioner once its gas is pumped down, and protect the television with foam corners inside a reinforced carton.
Two matters need settling before appliances are shipped. One is electrical: the Turkish supply runs at 230 volts and 50 hertz, with European-style sockets that take two round pins. You will need a plug adaptor, and you should read the rating plate on every motor-driven appliance to be sure it works at 50 hertz. The other concerns customs: an original carton makes a used appliance look new and it is then treated as new, so we do not ship it that way, and having two appliances of one kind may bring duty on the duplicate. The packing guide covers packing methods, and the packing and lashing page covers how the load is secured inside the container.
Shipping commercial goods and containers at the lowest cost
A trader in Madinah looks for two things: a reasonable freight, and goods that do not stop at the Turkish port. The first comes from choosing the method that fits the volume, so that a full container is not booked for goods that fill a quarter of it. The second comes from the documents: commercial goods enter Turkey in the name of an importer with a tax number, through a licensed customs broker. What is prepared correctly in Madinah passes there without stopping.
| Item | Shipping method | What it needs |
|---|---|---|
| Dates and foodstuffs | Dry or refrigerated container | Health certificate and certificate of origin, and approval from the Turkish agricultural authority |
| Commercial samples | Air from Madinah airport | An invoice marked “sample of no commercial value” |
| Appliances and electronics | Sea with shock-proof packing, or air | An invoice listing models, and Turkish conformity certificates |
| Assorted goods in a medium quantity | Part-load sea freight by the cubic metre | Commercial invoice and packing list |
| Spare parts | Sea for quantities, air for urgent ones | Part numbers on the invoice |
A regular exporter gets a fixed schedule, collection from the factory or warehouse, short-term storage before shipping if needed, and delivery at the Turkish port or to the warehouse door. Details are on the commercial shipping page.
Car shipping from Madinah to Turkey, step by step
Nobody drives your car along the road between Madinah and Jeddah. We send a car transporter to your home or to the showroom, and it loads the car and reaches Jeddah port within one day. At the port there are two ways to ship, shown in the table, and the usual destination is Mersin, which has more car sailings than any other Turkish port:
| Method | How it works | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| RoRo | A port driver drives the car up a ramp into the vessel’s deck, where it is lashed by the wheels | An ordinary car that runs under its own power; the most economical |
| 20ft container | One car secured with straps and chocks, and the container sealed | Luxury, classic and non-running cars |
| 40ft container | Two cars, or a car with the household furniture | A family moving with its furniture and car |
These are the steps of shipping a car in order, whether private or commercial:
- Checking the conditions: we ask about your status and residence, to know whether your car can enter Turkey and for how long.
- Documents: the registration card, passport and driving licence, and a no-objection letter if the car is under finance.
- Inspection and photographs: a condition report and photos from every side before handover.
- Transport to Jeddah: on a car transporter from your address in Madinah.
- Export and loading: clearance at the port, then RoRo or a container.
- Collection in Turkey: you attend clearance with your passport, receive the car and check it against the report.
On prices: shipping a saloon by RoRo between Jeddah port and Mersin is from SAR 2,800, and shipping it in a 20ft container is from SAR 4,600; the transporter’s charge from Madinah to the port is a separate line added to either. RoRo requires the car to be handed over cleared of belongings and with a quarter of a tank of fuel. To compare the two methods, see the RoRo car shipping page and the container car shipping page.
Conditions for a car entering Turkey
We go through the entry conditions with the car’s owner before talking about price, because Turkey is one of the strictest countries in the region towards foreign cars. As a rule a car on a Saudi plate is not imported; it is allowed in temporarily while it stays on that plate. The table sums up the rules currently applied, and we do not book before checking which of them are in force:
| Item | The rule in current practice |
|---|---|
| Residence abroad | The car’s owner must have lived outside Turkey for at least 185 days in the last year |
| Length of stay | A Turk resident abroad or the holder of a Turkish residence permit may keep the car up to 730 days; anyone else gets 90 days within 180 days |
| Number | One private car per person, registered in their name or with authorisation from its owner |
| Owner’s presence | The owner attends clearance, and the car is entered on their passport |
| Insurance | A policy valid inside Turkey for the whole stay |
| Sale and rental | Both prohibited while the car is on its foreign plate |
| Permanent import | Tightly restricted for used cars and heavily taxed, so it does not suit most cases |
There is also a step in the Kingdom before shipping: a car that is coming back does not have its plates cancelled; a temporary exit permit is issued for it instead. We prepare its triptik before it leaves, and the triptik and carnet page explains what that is. For the full picture, read the article car shipping from Jeddah to Turkey.
Customs clearance procedures in Turkey
At the Turkish port or airport a shipment is classed as one of three kinds, each with its own treatment. Used household goods of someone coming to live there are exempt when the conditions are met. New goods carry duty and tax. A personal parcel must have a customs declaration. The file is prepared with us in Madinah, then our broker at the point of arrival takes it over and runs the procedure, and no amount is paid before the consignee knows it. The table sums up what applies at present; because these rules shift, we verify them before any shipment moves:
| Item | Current practice |
|---|---|
| Who qualifies for the furniture exemption | A foreigner holding a valid work or residence permit, and a Turk returning for good after living abroad |
| Proof of housing | A tenancy contract notarised for at least one year, or the title deed of the property |
| Condition of the goods | Used and in proportion to the size of the family. New items and duplicate appliances attract duty |
| Arrival date | Within a set window around the owner’s date of entry, commonly from two months before it to 6 months after |
| Owner’s presence | Required in most cases, with the name on the bill of lading matching the passport letter for letter |
| New goods | Duty set by the item and its origin, plus value added tax, whose general rate is 20%, and on some items a special consumption tax |
| Personal parcel | No low-value exemption: every parcel has a declaration, a duty and a tax |
Note: sort out your papers before your furniture. As long as the Turkish residence permit has not been issued, or the tenancy contract is unfinished, do not send the container; if it arrives ahead of the papers it stays at the port and you bear the cost of keeping it there. The procedures are explained on the customs clearance page.
Documents required for shipping from Madinah to Turkey
We go through the shipment’s file page by page while it is still in Madinah, and move it only once the file is complete. Fixing a mistake with us takes an hour; if it is found at the Turkish port instead, the price is days of waiting plus storage charges. Which papers are needed depends on the kind of shipment:
| Type of shipment | Documents | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Visitor’s luggage and personal parcels | The sender’s passport, a statement of contents and their value, and the consignee’s details and Turkish identity number | Within the limits of personal use |
| Furniture and effects of someone relocating | Passport, bill of lading, detailed inventory, Turkish tax number, proof of housing in the form of a notarised tenancy contract or a title deed, and a residence or work permit issued in Turkey | A notarised power of attorney for the broker in Turkey |
| Commercial goods | The bill of lading, a certificate of origin, the packing list and the commercial invoice, together with the importer’s tax number and details | Dates and foodstuffs need a health certificate |
| Car | The car’s registration card, the owner’s passport and driving licence, the exit permit or an export certificate, the triptik, and insurance that is valid in Turkey | Checked against the entry conditions before booking |
Each document is explained on the required documents page.
What cannot be shipped to Turkey or needs a permit
A prohibited item is not held back alone; it stops the whole suitcase or container until it is dealt with. That is why we ask about the contents before collection, especially with visitors’ luggage that is packed in a hurry. These are the main items:
| Item | Status |
|---|---|
| Drugs, weapons and ammunition, and explosives | Prohibited |
| Zamzam water | Not shipped; the traveller carries the dedicated pack with them |
| Meat and meat products in personal effects | Prohibited |
| Plants, seeds and seedlings | With a phytosanitary certificate, and prohibited in personal parcels |
| Mobile phones in parcels | Not delivered to individuals by post or express shipping |
| Cosmetics, perfumes and food supplements | Not accepted for individuals in parcels; commercially with permits |
| Medicines | With a prescription and in a personal quantity |
| E-cigarettes and their liquids | Prohibited |
| Loose batteries and flammable liquids | Not accepted by air |
| Cash, gold and original documents | Not shipped; they stay with you |
The prohibited items page carries the general list. Whenever an item leaves you in doubt, check with us first and only then pack it in the suitcase.
The Turkish cities we deliver to: Istanbul, Bursa, Izmir and others

After customs release the shipment moves by a Turkish truck to the consignee’s city. Clearance first, then delivery: the container does not leave the port, nor the parcel the airport, before the charges are paid and the release is issued. Bursa is a clear example of what the choice of port does. It lies on the Sea of Marmara, Gemlik port is close to it, and Istanbul is about 150 km away. So a container bound for Bursa is not discharged at Mersin and then driven across Turkey. We deliver to the major cities and their surroundings:
| City | Port or airport of arrival | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Istanbul | Ambarli by sea, and Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Gökçen by air | State the European or Asian side, as the city lies on two continents |
| Bursa and Yalova | Gemlik, Kocaeli or Ambarli | A common destination for owners of summer homes |
| Izmir | Izmir port | And onwards to the Aegean cities |
| Ankara | Mersin, then about 480 km by road | By air through Istanbul |
| Konya | Mersin, then by road | Home to many returning visitors |
| Trabzon | By road from Istanbul or Mersin | The furthest by road, adding about two days to delivery |
| Mersin, Adana, Gaziantep and Antalya | Mersin port | The shortest and cheapest routes |
The consignee’s address is written in Turkish and in this order: the name of the neighbourhood (Mahalle), then the street, then the building number and the flat number, then the district followed by the city, along with a Turkish mobile number the consignee answers. For the destination itself, see the shipping to Turkey page.
Air freight from Madinah to Turkey

Air is the faster of the two routes, and Madinah has an advantage here that Makkah lacks: the airport is in the city. Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport has direct flights to Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Gökçen, with a flying time of about four hours. We collect the shipment from your address and hand it over at the airport, and it reaches the consignee in Istanbul in two to 4 days including clearance, and Ankara, Izmir and Konya in 3 to 5 days through Istanbul. If no flight suits the size or timing of the shipment, as happens at the peak of the seasons, we route it through King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah.
- For whom: documents, visitors’ luggage, cartons of dates, parcels, commercial samples and urgent spare parts.
- Calculation: we measure the parcel in centimetres, multiply its length by its width by its height and divide the result by 6000, which gives the volumetric weight. The charge is based on that figure or on the actual weight, whichever is higher. The volumetric weight calculator is ready to use.
- Price: from SAR 17 per kg once the weight reaches 300 kg or more, from SAR 1,100 for a shipment weighing 50 kg, from SAR 110 for a parcel of no more than 5 kg, and from SAR 83 for an envelope of documents.
- What it does not suit: bulky goods, furniture and ordinary cars; sending them by air costs a multiple of the sea rate.
- Restricted by air: a lithium battery travels only when fitted in its device, and neither compressed gases nor flammable liquids are accepted on board.
Details are on the air freight page and in the article air freight from Jeddah to Turkey.
Which suits your shipment: air or sea?
It is the kind of shipment that picks the method, not the owner’s wish. In practice we send by aircraft whatever weighs less than 100 kg and whatever is tied to a date, and by ship whatever exceeds that. Nothing prevents using both, which is what many families do: a small air shipment with the needs of the first week, and a container carrying the furniture that arrives after it.
| Comparison | Air | Sea |
|---|---|---|
| Time from Madinah | 2–5 days | 18–40 days |
| Calculation | By the kilogram on chargeable weight | By the cubic metre or by the container |
| Best for | Luggage, documents, parcels, dates and urgent items | Furniture, cars and heavy goods |
| Point of departure | Madinah airport, or Jeddah airport | Jeddah port, or Yanbu when a sailing is available |
| Price starts from | SAR 17 per kg for large weights | SAR 415 per cubic metre |

Is there land freight from Madinah to Turkey?
The short answer: we do not ship to Turkey by road, although the question keeps coming up. The Kingdom and Turkey share no border, so a truck leaving Madinah would have to pass through two or more countries, each with a transit clearance whose procedures change from time to time. A sea container, by contrast, is sealed in Madinah and nobody opens it until the Turkish port, and its cost per cubic metre is lower. That is why this route is limited to sea and air; our road freight serves the Gulf states and Jordan, and you will find it on the land freight page.
Collection from the districts of Madinah and its governorates
We pack and load at your location, in any district of Madinah: Aziziyah, Difa, Khalidiyah, King Fahd, Al-Arid, Al-Uyun, Quba, Awali and Shuran. We also collect from the governorates of the region, and their shipments join the same run to the port or the airport:
| Place | Distance from Madinah | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Hotels of the central area | Inside the city | Suitcases and cartons collected from reception by a small vehicle |
| Haramain railway station | Inside the city | Collected from the traveller before boarding |
| Districts of Madinah | Inside the city | Collection from the door with dismantling and packing |
| Badr | About 150 km | On the coast road, so it is added on the way to the port |
| Yanbu | About 220 km | Combined with the Madinah shipments |
| Khaybar and Al-Hanakiyah | About 170 km and about 110 km | Collected before the day of departure |
When the flat in Turkey is still being prepared, or the residence permit is yet to come, your shipment can wait in our warehouse, listed in its inventory, until you name the date. The storage page has the details.
Steps of shipping from Madinah to Turkey
- Contact: send us photos and a description of the shipment, tell us which Madinah district or hotel it is in, and name the Turkish city where the consignee lives.
- Checking the conditions: we ask about the type of shipment and the consignee’s status, to know how it will be cleared there.
- Method and price: we suggest air or sea and the most suitable port, and you receive the price itemised.
- Booking: we set the collection day and hour, and ask for photos of the documents.
- Collection and packing: at your address or hotel, with weighing, a numbered inventory and photos.
- Transport and export: to Madinah airport or Jeddah port, with export clearance.
- Shipping and tracking: you receive the air waybill or container number, and an update at every stage.
- Clearance and delivery: the procedures are completed by our broker in Turkey, after which the shipment is handed over at the port, at the airport or at the consignee’s door.
Tracking and insurance
A visitor travels ahead of the shipment, and the owner of a container waits weeks for it. In both cases we do not leave them asking: we tell them when the shipment is collected, when it leaves Madinah, when it takes off or sails, when it reaches Turkey, and when the release is issued.
- Tracking: type the container number into the shipping line’s site, or the air waybill number into the airline’s, and the latest movement appears. The track your shipment page explains how.
- Record: a receipt with the number of pieces and their weight, and photos before packing and after loading, which are the basis of any claim.
- Insurance: it is not compulsory, and the premium is a percentage of the value you declare. We think it is worth having in three cases: a full household of furniture, a car, and appliances. It is explained on the cargo insurance page.
- On receipt: check the pieces against the list, and note any remark before signing.
Shipping from Turkey to Madinah
The route works in both directions. From Turkey come furniture, furnishings and carpets from Istanbul, Bursa and Inegol, clothing and fabrics, finishing materials, and the hotel fittings that Madinah orders constantly. We collect from the factory or shop and combine your purchases from several suppliers in one shipment. The container sails from Ambarli or Mersin to Jeddah, and is then moved by road to Madinah after clearance. Air freight reaches Madinah airport or Jeddah airport in 3 to 5 days.
- Saudi customs: duty by item, and value added tax of 15%.
- Conformity: where technical regulations apply to commercial goods, the goods must be registered on the SABER platform ahead of shipment.
- Personal effects: a Saudi returning from living in Turkey brings in used effects with a list of contents.
Tips before shipping to Turkey
- Book the luggage collection from the hotel at least a day before you travel, not in the hour of departure.
- Buy dates in sealed factory packs; they are easier to clear than loose dates.
- Complete your Turkish residence permit and notarised tenancy contract before you set a date for shipping furniture.
- Write your name and the consignee’s name on the bill of lading exactly as in the passport, letter for letter.
- Do not ship new appliances in their cartons with used furniture.
- Keep original papers, gold and medicines with you on the flight.
How do you choose a shipping company from Madinah to Turkey?
You may receive two offers for the same shipment from Madinah with a wide gap between them, and the usual reason is that one covers services the other leaves out. So ask first what the price includes, and compare the figures afterwards. The table shows what distinguishes someone experienced on this route from someone who offers only promises:
| What you ask about | Reassuring sign | Warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| Premises and registration | A commercial registration, an address and a collection receipt | An anonymous account and a mobile number only |
| Port of departure | Names the port and the sailing date before booking | “From Yanbu tomorrow” with no confirmed sailing |
| Turkish customs | Asks about residence, the tenancy contract and the consignee’s identity | “Everything enters duty-free” |
| Transit time | A door-to-door time with a realistic margin | “One week by sea from Madinah” |
| Price | Itemised: inland transport, air or sea, clearance, delivery | A single figure with no idea what it covers |
| Collection | Weighing in front of you and a receipt with the number of pieces | Collection with no weighing and no receipt |
Common mistakes when shipping to Turkey
- Leaving excess luggage for the airport and paying the excess-baggage rate there.
- Putting a phone, perfume or supplements in a suitcase shipped as a personal shipment.
- Writing “gift” on the parcel in the belief that it exempts it from charges.
- Shipping furniture before the residence permit is issued or the tenancy contract is notarised.
- Shipping a car with the intention of registering or selling it in Turkey.
- Choosing a port far from the consignee’s city because its freight is lower.
- Comparing a “to the port” price with a “to the door” price as if they were the same.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Madinah to Turkey
How much does shipping from Madinah to Turkey cost?
The cost depends on the method. By aircraft, an envelope of documents is from SAR 83, a parcel of no more than 5 kg from SAR 110, and anything between 5 and 20 kg from SAR 200. By ship from Jeddah port, a 20ft container is from SAR 4,600 and a saloon car by RoRo from SAR 2,800, while as a part load a bedroom is from SAR 1,100 and a cubic metre from SAR 415. The final amount is settled once we know the size of your shipment and the Turkish city it is going to; the number is 0552803439.
How long does shipping from Madinah to Turkey take?
The time is counted from collection at the door of your home or hotel in Madinah. An air shipment reaches Istanbul in two to 4 days. A full container needs 18 to 28 days to get to Mersin, and 22 to 32 days when it is bound for Istanbul or Bursa. A part load is the longest, between 25 and 40 days.
Which port does the container leave from when Madinah has no port?
Jeddah Islamic Port as a rule, which the truck reaches from Madinah in about 420 km. Yanbu port is nearer, at about 220 km, but it is chosen only when a suitable sailing to Turkey is available from it, and we confirm that for each shipment.
Does air freight leave from Madinah airport itself?
Mostly, yes. The direct flight between Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz Airport and Istanbul lasts about four hours, and it is the usual way out for an air shipment. We turn to King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah only when Madinah has no flight that fits the size of the shipment or its timing.
Do you collect visitors’ luggage from the hotel?
Yes. A small vehicle collects the suitcases and cartons from the hotel reception in the central area or from the Haramain railway station. The train itself is for passengers and carries no freight, so we are the ones who move the luggage from the station to the airport or the warehouse.
Can Madinah dates be shipped to Turkey?
Yes. A commercial quantity travels with an invoice, a certificate of origin and a health certificate, in the name of a Turkish importer. A personal quantity sent with luggage is subject to what Turkish customs accepts, so we confirm the permitted limit before packing.
Can Zamzam water be shipped to Turkey?
No. Zamzam water is not shipped, and its export is prohibited apart from the dedicated pack a traveller carries on the flight.
Which Turkish port does the shipment arrive at?
Mersin for the cities of the south and centre such as Konya and Ankara. Ambarli for Istanbul, and Gemlik or Kocaeli for Bursa and Yalova. Izmir for the cities of the west, and Iskenderun for Hatay and its surroundings.
Do my used household goods enter Turkey duty-free?
They enter exempt if you are moving there to live and meet the exemption conditions currently applied. There are four: you hold a residence or work permit, you present a title deed or a notarised tenancy contract running for one year, a detailed inventory accompanies the shipment, and you attend clearance in person. We go over with you which of these are in force before we ship.
Does the consignee pay customs on a personal parcel?
Yes, and there is no exception for a small value. Turkish customs requires a declaration for each parcel and does not exempt one marked “gift”. It is best that the consignee knows before you send that receiving it means paying a duty and a tax.
Do you ship cars from Madinah to Turkey?
Yes. The car is loaded on a transporter from Madinah as far as Jeddah port, and from there it sails to Mersin on a RoRo vessel or inside a container. Shipping a saloon by RoRo from Jeddah port is from SAR 2,800, and the transporter’s charge from Madinah is added on top.
Can I register my Saudi car in Turkey?
In most cases that is not possible, since Turkey heavily restricts the permanent import of used cars. The practical alternative is for the car to enter temporarily on its Saudi plate and stay for as long as its owner’s status allows.
Is there land freight from Madinah to Turkey?
It is not among our services on this route. The Kingdom and Turkey are not neighbours, and a truck passes through more than one country and faces unstable transit procedures in each. We send luggage, parcels and urgent items by aircraft, and furniture, goods and cars by ship.
How do I pay, and is the shipment insured?
Payment is by bank transfer or card, and its timing is agreed at booking. Insurance is optional and is calculated as a percentage of the declared value; we advise it for full household moves, cars and appliances.
Do you ship from Turkey to Madinah?
Yes. We collect from Istanbul, Bursa and other cities, and ship by sea from Ambarli or Mersin to Jeddah and then by road to Madinah, or by air to Madinah airport or Jeddah airport.
