Who ships from Saudi Arabia to Turkey, and what do they ship?

Six kinds of customer keep this route busy all year, and each has a shipment that differs in size and urgency. Knowing which kind you are answers half the questions: do you need a container or a few cubic metres, and will sea do or do you need air? The table matches each case to its method:

Shipper What they usually send What we suggest
A Saudi who has bought a flat or villa in Turkey Furnishings, appliances and bedrooms A shared container, or a 20ft container for a whole home
A Turkish family finishing work in the Kingdom The whole household, and sometimes the car A 40ft container taking furniture and car together
A resident moving to study or work Cartons of clothes and books, and suitcases An air parcel, or sea freight by the cubic metre
A Turkish Umrah or Hajj pilgrim Excess luggage, gifts and dates Air from Jeddah or Madinah, and sea for groups
A Saudi factory or exporter Petrochemicals, plastics, dates and packaging materials Full containers on a regular schedule
A company or office Contracts, samples and urgent spare parts Express air freight

Shipping methods from Saudi Arabia to Turkey and how long each takes

Short answer: there are two practical ways to ship to Turkey, sea and air. Sea takes two to four weeks door to door, and air takes days. Several countries lie between the Kingdom and Turkey by road, so we do not build our service on trucks. A container’s journey is more than the sailing, and these are its stages from loading day:

Stage What happens How long
At your address Furniture dismantled, packed, numbered and loaded One to two days
Road to the port Hours from Jeddah and Makkah, a day or two from distant cities Up to 3 days
Jeddah port Export declaration, then the container enters the line’s yard 3–7 days
At sea North up the Red Sea, then the Suez Canal, then the eastern Mediterranean 7–12 days on a direct sailing
Turkish port Import declaration, inspection and payment of what is due 3–5 working days
To the consignee’s door A Turkish truck from the port to the province 1–3 days

The total of these stages changes with the method and the Turkish port. Here we give you the whole door-to-door time, because that is what matters when you plan your travel and your move-in date:

Method To Door-to-door time Suits
Full container Mersin 15–28 days A whole home, and wholesale goods
Full container Istanbul (Ambarli) 19–32 days Istanbul, Bursa and their surroundings
Shared container Mersin or Istanbul 22–40 days Cartons and one or two rooms
RoRo Mostly Mersin 15–28 days A car that runs under its own power
Air Istanbul, then the other airports 2–5 days Parcels, documents and samples

What lengthens the time?

  • Your city’s distance from the port: a shipment from Tabuk or Dammam has a longer road leg ahead of it than one from Jeddah.
  • A ship with an intermediate call: when the container is moved from one vessel to another on the way, the sailing becomes close to three weeks.
  • Filling the shared container: it is not closed until the other customers’ shipments have filled it.
  • The consignee’s Turkish papers: a permit not yet issued or a contract not notarised stops the release.
  • The summer peak: from late spring the route fills with holidaymakers and home owners.

Transit tables for every destination are on the transit times page.

Shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to Turkey

Short answer: shipping to Turkey starts from SAR 83 for documents, SAR 415 per cubic metre by sea and SAR 4,600 for a 20ft container. These are our lowest prices across the Kingdom, and they are the freight itself from Jeddah port or from the airport. Transport from your city and services inside Turkey are separate items that appear in the price we send you.

Shipment How it travels Price starts from
Documents of no more than one kilogram Express air SAR 83
A parcel of no more than 5 kg Air SAR 110
A parcel between 5 and 20 kg Air SAR 200
A 50 kg shipment Air SAR 1,100
300 kg and above Air SAR 17 per kg
A cubic metre Shared container SAR 415
Per kilogram above 100 kg Consolidated sea freight SAR 4.15
A bedroom Shared container SAR 1,100
20ft container Ocean freight from Jeddah port SAR 4,600
40ft container Ocean freight from Jeddah port SAR 5,200
Saloon car RoRo from Jeddah to Mersin SAR 2,800
Transport from your city to the port, and delivery inside Turkey By distance and volume Set on request

Prices quoted in the market on this route are far apart. For parcels: an air parcel up to 5 kg between SAR 150 and 350, an air kilogram between SAR 70 and 160 on express parcels with the first kilogram between SAR 70 and 100, a sea parcel up to 50 kg between SAR 500 and 1,200, and a medium parcel of 15 to 25 kg between SAR 900 and 2,200. In general air freight the kilogram is quoted from 2 to 9 dollars depending on weight. For containers: a 20ft between SAR 4,500 and 9,400 and a 40ft between SAR 5,200 and 13,100, with some offers mentioning about 1,200 dollars and 1,400 dollars for the two sizes. A single car is between SAR 3,500 and 8,000. Shipping-line rates move from month to month, so the price that counts is the one we fix for you on booking day.

Factor How it changes the price
Collection city The further it is from Jeddah port, the larger the inland transport item
Sea or air A cubic metre by sea is far cheaper, and an aircraft is charged by the kilogram
Volume and weight Measure your shipment with the CBM calculator before asking for a price
Turkish port Mersin usually costs less in freight than Ambarli and Izmir
Scope of service Delivery at the port, or clearance, delivery and assembly at the door
Time of year Summer rates are higher and space on ships is tighter

How do you bring the cost down?

  • Share a container as long as your shipment is less than half a 20ft container.
  • Hand your shipment in at our warehouse if you are in Jeddah or Makkah, and the collection item drops out.
  • Make Mersin the arrival port if the consignee is in Adana, Konya or Ankara.
  • Put the car and the furniture in one 40ft container instead of two shipments.
  • Confirm your booking at least three weeks before the holiday season.

The remaining factors are explained on the pricing factors page.

Shipping to Turkey from the cities of the Kingdom

Short answer: yes, we ship to Turkey from every Saudi city, and in most cases the port of departure is the same one, Jeddah. What differs between cities is the length of the road to the quay and the airport a parcel takes off from. The table sums up each city, and four cities have an article of their own with the details:

Collection city Port used Airport Container to Mersin For details
Jeddah Jeddah Islamic Port, inside the city King Abdulaziz 15–25 days Air freight from Jeddah to Turkey
Makkah Jeddah, about 80 km Jeddah airport 15–25 days Shipping company from Mecca to Turkey
Madinah Jeddah, about 420 km Madinah airport, or Jeddah airport 18–28 days Shipping company from Madinah to Turkey
Riyadh Jeddah, about 950 km King Khalid 18–28 days Shipping company from Riyadh to Turkey
Dammam, Khobar and Jubail Jeddah by road, about 1,350 km, or Dammam port King Fahd 19–30 days via Jeddah International shipping company in Dammam
Taif Jeddah, about 170 km Jeddah airport 15–25 days Joined to the Jeddah and Makkah runs
Buraydah and Unaizah Jeddah, about 900 km Riyadh or Jeddah airport 18–28 days Joined to the Riyadh runs
Tabuk Jeddah, about 1,000 km Jeddah or Riyadh airport 18–28 days A closed truck to the port
Abha, Khamis Mushait and Jazan Jeddah, about 700 km from Abha Jeddah airport 17–28 days A closed truck to the port

Jeddah, Makkah and Taif: these cities are hours from the quay and the airport, so they have the shortest time and the lowest inland transport cost. Most of the luggage of Turkish Umrah pilgrims leaves from them after the season. Makkah has neither an airport nor a port, so everything collected there heads to Jeddah the same day.

Madinah: it has its own international airport, and visitors’ parcels leave from it when a suitable flight is available, otherwise through Jeddah airport. A container covers about 420 km to Jeddah port.

Riyadh and Qassim: with no coast nearby, the container travels by road before it sails. Although Dammam port is closer to the capital, we normally send Turkey shipments to Jeddah, because the difference at sea is greater than the difference on the road.

The Eastern Province: a shipment from Dammam, Khobar or Jubail has two options that we compare for you on booking day: a truck to Jeddah and then a short sailing, or loading at King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam and a longer sailing round the Arabian Peninsula. Parcels take off from King Fahd Airport.

Sea and air freight do not change with your city, because they are charged from the port or the airport. The whole difference is in the inland transport item, and these prices are as they stand in each city’s article:

From Cubic metre by sea Bedroom 20ft container Air parcel up to 5 kg Transport to the port
Jeddah From SAR 415 From SAR 1,100 From SAR 4,600 From SAR 110 Inside the city
Makkah From SAR 415 From SAR 1,100 From SAR 4,600 From SAR 110 Set on request
Madinah From SAR 415 From SAR 1,100 From SAR 4,600 From SAR 110 Set on request
Riyadh From SAR 415 From SAR 1,100 From SAR 4,600 From SAR 110 Set on request
Dammam and the other cities From SAR 415 From SAR 1,100 From SAR 4,600 From SAR 110 Set on request

The list of cities we cover is on the cities page.

Sea freight from Saudi Arabia to Turkey: a full or a shared container?

Sea freight from Saudi Arabia to Turkey

Short answer: take a full container if your shipment is over roughly 15 cubic metres or your date is tight, and take space in a shared container if it is smaller. A full container is closed with its seal in front of you and its door is not opened before Turkish customs. A shared one brings your shipment together with other customers’ shipments at the consolidation warehouse, so you pay for your own cubic metres only and wait a little.

Point of comparison Full container Shared container
Basis of the price The whole container’s freight The number of cubic metres
Starts from SAR 4,600 for a 20ft and SAR 5,200 for a 40ft SAR 415 per cubic metre
Time to Mersin 15–28 days 22–40 days
Handling One loading and one unloading Consolidated here and sorted in Turkey
Suits A flat or villa, furniture with a car, a trader’s goods Cartons, luggage and one or two rooms

For a quick estimate: a 20ft container carries about 28 cubic metres, which is the furniture of a two- to three-bedroom flat. A 40ft container carries about 58 cubic metres, which is a whole house, or furniture together with a car. Internal dimensions are on the container sizes page, the service is explained on the sea freight page, and prices by size are in the article container shipping prices from Jeddah.

Which Saudi port does the container sail from, and which Turkish port does it reach?

Short answer: it mostly sails from Jeddah Islamic Port and reaches Mersin or Istanbul, depending on the consignee’s address. Jeddah is on the Red Sea, and a ship from it heads north to the Suez Canal and then enters the Mediterranean, where the first large Turkish port it meets is Mersin. King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, on the other hand, is on the Arabian Gulf, and its ship passes the Strait of Hormuz, the Arabian Sea and Bab al-Mandab before it reaches the Red Sea, which usually adds about a week to the voyage. We use it when its schedule and cost suit an Eastern Province shipment better, and we confirm the route with you before booking.

Turkish port Where it is Nearest provinces
Mersin The southern Mediterranean coast Adana, Konya, Kayseri, Ankara, Antalya, Gaziantep
Ambarli West of Istanbul, on the Sea of Marmara European Istanbul, Tekirdag, Edirne
Gemlik and Kocaeli South and east of the Marmara Bursa, Yalova, Sakarya, Asian Istanbul
Izmir The Aegean coast Izmir, Manisa, Aydin, Denizli
Iskenderun The far south near Hatay Hatay, Kahramanmaras, Sanliurfa

The rule we work by: the port nearest the consignee comes before the port with the cheapest freight. What you save at sea you may pay more than back on a truck crossing Turkey from south to north. More is on the ports and gateways page, and Jeddah port procedures are in the article international sea freight from Jeddah.

Personal parcel shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to Turkey

Short answer: a personal parcel to Turkey starts from SAR 110 by air up to 5 kg, and from SAR 415 per cubic metre by sea. Gifts, clothes, books, dates and documents are what people send most. The rule: light and urgent by aircraft, heavy and able to wait in a shared container.

Parcel Method Arrival time Starts from
An envelope of documents Express air 2–4 days SAR 83
A gift or clothes up to 5 kg Air 2–4 days SAR 110
A suitcase or carton of 5–20 kg Air 2–5 days SAR 200
Several cartons totalling 50 kg Air 3–5 days SAR 1,100
Cartons above 100 kg Consolidated sea freight 22–40 days SAR 4.15 per kg
  • Chargeable weight: the airline takes the greater of actual and volumetric weight, so a large, light carton is charged on its size.
  • Customs: under current practice Turkey does not exempt a low-value parcel, so the consignee pays duty and tax on every parcel.
  • Personal parcel limit: 30 kg is the figure in use, and anything above is cleared as a commercial shipment.
  • What we need from the consignee: the name as on their ID, their Turkish ID number or foreigner number, and a Turkish mobile.
  • Repeat shipments: someone who sends monthly or seasonally gets a lower price than the single-parcel price.

Service terms are on the parcel shipping page.

Furniture and household shipping from Saudi Arabia to Istanbul

Short answer: household furniture is shipped to Istanbul in a container that arrives at Ambarli port, then moves by truck to the district and is unloaded and assembled. Istanbul is where most people who bought property in Turkey are heading, and its districts differ a great deal: modern complexes with goods lifts in Basaksehir and Beylikduzu, and old buildings with narrow stairs in Fatih and Beyoglu. That is why we ask about the floor and the lift before we decide how many men are needed there.

  • Estimating the volume: from photos of the rooms or a visit, which tells us whether a 20ft container is enough.
  • Delicate pieces first: mirrors, glass, marble, leather sofas and built-in kitchen appliances are identified and set apart before dismantling starts.
  • Orderly dismantling: bedrooms, wardrobes, the kitchen and the sitting room, with every door and shelf carrying its piece number.
  • Stowing the container: heavy pieces on the floor, fragile ones in the middle between mattresses, light ones on top, then straps drawing the load to the container walls.
  • Unloading order: we load what you need first near the door, such as the children’s rooms and the beds, so it comes out first in Istanbul.
  • At the door: pieces carried into their rooms, beds, wardrobes and the kitchen assembled, and packing waste removed.

Bursa, Yalova and Sapanca are served the same way through Gemlik or Kocaeli. Service details are on the furniture shipping page.

Which electrical appliances do we ship to Turkey?

Short answer: we ship all household appliances, large, small and electronic, as long as they are used items within their owner’s household or declared as goods. What changes from one appliance to another is how it is prepared and packed, and what Turkish customs looks at in it:

Category Examples How it is prepared for shipping
Cooling appliances Side-by-side fridge, upright freezer, water cooler Emptied and dried, and shipped upright
Laundry appliances Washing machine, dryer, dishwasher Drum secured and water drained
Air conditioning Split, window and evaporative units Removed by a technician with the gas held in the outdoor unit
Screens and audio Large televisions, home cinema A carton with foam corners, or a wooden crate
Computers and gaming Desktop and laptop computers, game consoles Anti-static packing, with the serial number in the inventory
Small kitchen appliances Electric oven, blender, coffee machine A carton for each appliance, with padding

Two notes before you decide what to take. First: the Turkish grid is 230 volts at 50 hertz with European sockets, so most of your appliances work with just a plug adaptor, and a motor-driven appliance should have its label checked. Second: customs exempts a used appliance within a mover’s household, not a new one in its carton nor two of the same kind, which may be charged duty.

Shipping fridges, air conditioners and large appliances

Short answer: a fridge, an air conditioner and a washing machine go by sea inside an ordinary dry container, and arrive sound if they are prepared before packing. A refrigerated container is not needed, since the appliance is not running on the way. The real danger to a fridge compressor and a washing-machine drum is tilting and vibration, and to circuit boards it is sea humidity.

  • The day before collection: unplug the fridge and freezer, defrost them, and leave the doors open to dry.
  • Moving parts: glass shelves and drawers are taken out and wrapped singly, and doors are held with tape that leaves no mark.
  • The split air conditioner: the refrigeration technician pumps the gas down into the outdoor unit and closes the valves, and the pipe ends are capped.
  • The washing machine: the original transit bolts go back in to hold the drum, or it is packed so that it cannot move.
  • Inside the container: large appliances stand on their bases against the wall, strapped, with cardboard sheets between them.
  • After arrival: leave the fridge standing for several hours before switching it on; fitting the air conditioner is done by a technician in your Turkish city on request.

Anyone in a hurry for an air conditioner or a single appliance before summer can use air, where it is charged on volumetric weight and so costs more. We photograph every large appliance before packing and after loading, and record its condition in the inventory.

Crew and packing tools: how do we prepare a shipment for the sea voyage?

Short answer: your shipment is packed by a fixed crew of a dismantling-and-assembly carpenter, packers and a loading supervisor, with materials that withstand three weeks inside a closed container. The route to Turkey crosses two seas of different temperatures, so moisture condenses inside the container at night. That is why packing that would do for a move within a city is not enough.

  • Materials: five-ply corrugated cartons for books and crockery, double bubble wrap, foam for corners, blankets for wood, stretch film, and moisture-absorbing bags hung in the container.
  • Tools: electric screwdrivers with set torque so that chipboard does not split, lifting trolleys, ratchet straps, and wooden crates made to measure for marble and mirrors.
  • Numbering: a numbered label on every piece and on its bag of screws, matched by a line in the inventory.
  • Stability check: before the door is locked the supervisor makes sure there is no gap in which a piece can move, and the load and the seal are photographed.
  • What we do not do: we do not wrap leather directly in plastic, put carpets under heavy pieces, or load glass flat.

We apply the same method in the opposite direction when we ship your purchases from Turkey to the Kingdom. Materials are explained in the packing guide, and securing the load on the packing and lashing page.

Commercial cargo and container shipping from Saudi Arabia to Turkey

Short answer: commercial goods are shipped in a full container or by the cubic metre in a shared one, and enter Turkey in the name of an importer with a tax number, through a licensed broker. Among the goods leaving the Kingdom for Turkey are petrochemical and plastic materials, dates and packaging materials. A small trader starts with cubic metres and moves to a container once orders become regular.

Goods Shipping method What is required with them
Plastic granules and petrochemicals Full container, in big bags or on pallets Safety data sheet and an itemised invoice
Dates and food products Dry container, or reefer for sensitive items Health and origin certificates, and the Turkish agricultural authority’s approval
Packaging materials Full or shared container Packing list with weights
Office furniture and equipment Shared or full container Invoice and packing list
Electronics and appliances Sea, or air for small quantities Models and numbers, and Turkish conformity certificates
Samples and exhibition items Air Sample invoice, or a temporary admission carnet for returning exhibits

We also give the trader what he needs around the shipping itself: consolidating his goods in our warehouse until the ship’s date, loading the container at his factory, and delivery to the buyer’s warehouse in Turkish industrial zones. Ocean freight starts from SAR 4,600 for a 20ft container and SAR 5,200 for a 40ft. Details are on the commercial shipping page.

Car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Turkey

Car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Turkey

Short answer: a car is shipped to Turkey by sea, either on a RoRo vessel that it is driven onto uncovered, or secured inside a closed container, and the price starts from SAR 2,800 for a saloon. The usual arrival port is Mersin and the departure port is Jeddah. A car coming from another city reaches the port on a car carrier and is not driven on the road.

Method What happens For which car Starts from
RoRo The car climbs the ramp under its own power to an inner deck and its wheels are lashed Running cars; the lowest cost SAR 2,800 for a saloon
20ft container One car is driven in, held with straps and wooden chocks, then the container is sealed Luxury, classic and non-running cars SAR 4,600
40ft container Two cars, or one car with furniture A family moving home and car together SAR 5,200

On RoRo the car travels with nothing inside it and a quarter tank of fuel, and is handed with its key to the port officer. In a container the battery terminal is disconnected and little fuel is left. Four-wheel drives, minibuses and trucks are priced on their length and height. The comparison is on the RoRo car shipping and container car shipping pages.

Steps for shipping a private or commercial car to Turkey

Short answer: shipping a car takes eight steps, and the most important one comes before booking: making sure the car can enter Turkey at all, and in what capacity. No car sails with us before its documents are complete, because a gap is discovered in Mersin late and at a cost.

  1. Car details: you send a photo of the registration, the make and year of manufacture, your city, and your status in Turkey.
  2. Entry review: we establish with you whether it enters temporarily on its plates and for how long, and tell you what will not work before you pay anything.
  3. Saudi papers: a temporary exit permit for a car that will return, a no-objection letter if it is financed, and the triptik.
  4. Inspection and photographs: pictures of the body from all four sides, the cabin, the odometer and the tyres, and a condition report you sign.
  5. Transport to the port: a car carrier from your home or the showroom to Jeddah port, open or enclosed depending on the car’s value.
  6. Loading: onto the RoRo or into the container, and you receive the booking number and the ship’s name.
  7. Follow-up: we tell you about the sailing, the Suez Canal transit and the arrival at the Turkish port.
  8. Collection in Turkey: the owner attends, the car is entered on his passport, and he receives it after a joint inspection.

A commercial vehicle, such as a small truck or a passenger bus, has entry procedures different from a private car’s, so we confirm what applies to it with the Turkish broker before any booking. The full guide is on the car shipping guide page.

Conditions for a Saudi car entering Turkey

Short answer: a Saudi car enters Turkey temporarily on its own plates in most cases and is not registered on Turkish plates. Permanent import of a used car is tightly restricted and heavily taxed. The rules below are current practice at Turkish customs, and we confirm what is in force before shipping because they are amended:

Condition Current practice
Who is entitled Someone who has lived outside Turkey for at least 185 days in the last year
How long it stays Up to 730 days for a Turkish residence-permit holder and a Turk living abroad, and 90 days in every 180 for a visitor
How many cars One per person, in their name or with a notarised authorisation from its owner
Clearance With the owner present, and recorded on their passport
Insurance A policy covering Turkish territory for the whole stay
What is forbidden Selling it, renting it out or lending it to a resident while it is on foreign plates

The customs carnet is explained on the triptik and carnet page. Car rules in detail are in the article car shipping from Jeddah to Turkey, and an overview of destinations is in the article car shipping from Saudi Arabia.

Turkish customs: used furniture and new goods

Short answer: used furniture enters Turkey free of duty if its owner is moving to live there and meets the conditions, and new goods pay duty and value added tax. We promise nobody an exemption before we have seen their papers. This is a summary of what is applied today; the rules change, so we review them with the Turkish broker for every shipment:

Matter What is applied
Who benefits from the furniture exemption A foreigner holding a valid residence or work permit, or a Turk returning for good
Proof of housing A twelve-month tenancy contract notarised by a notary public, or a title deed (tapu)
The window Furniture arrives in a window around the entry date, commonly two months before to six months after
Inventory A list of every piece, with brand and serial number for appliances
Presence and tax number The owner attends clearance and holds a Turkish tax number
No contract and no deed Temporary admission against a deposit or bank guarantee
New goods Three charges: a duty that follows the tariff heading and country of manufacture, then VAT, whose general rate is 20%, then special consumption tax where it applies

Note: arrange the papers before the furniture. A container that arrives ahead of its owner’s residence permit stands in the port and is charged storage every day. Procedures are on the customs clearance page.

Documents required for shipping to Turkey

Short answer: a parcel needs only the sender’s ID and a statement of contents, while furniture needs a larger file built on the Turkish residence permit and the housing contract. We ask for photos of the papers at booking and match the name in them against the passport before the bill of lading is issued:

Shipment What we ask for Note
Furniture of someone moving to live there Passport, residence or work permit, notarised tenancy contract or tapu, inventory, Turkish tax number A power of attorney for the Turkish broker, issued by a notary public
Goods Commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, the importer’s details and tax number Health or conformity certificates for specific products
Car Registration, passport, driving licence, exit permit, triptik, insurance valid in Turkey All complete before sailing
Personal parcel Sender’s ID, a statement of contents and value, the consignee’s name, ID number and mobile Quantities for personal use

A sample of each paper is on the shipping documents page.

What cannot be shipped to Turkey or needs a permit

Short answer: prohibited items are of two kinds, those that do not enter Turkey at all, and those that enter commercially with a permit but are not accepted in an individual’s parcel. We check the contents list before collection, because one offending item holds up the release of the whole shipment:

Item Ruling

Turkish cities we deliver in: Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and others

Delivery in Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir

Short answer: we deliver in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Bursa, Antalya and Trabzon, and in any other province by truck from the nearest port or airport. Delivery comes after customs release, not before. The delivery crew unloads the pieces, carries them in and assembles them when the service runs to the door.

City The shipment reaches it through Worth knowing
Istanbul Ambarli port, and Istanbul and Sabiha Gokcen airports Say whether it is the European or the Asian side; the strait and its bridges lie between them
Ankara Mersin, then about 480 km by truck Air parcels reach it through Istanbul
Izmir Izmir port From there to Manisa, Aydin and the rest of the coast
Bursa Gemlik or Kocaeli Along with Yalova and Inegol
Antalya Mersin, then the coast road Air parcels usually reach it through Istanbul
Trabzon A truck from Ambarli or Mersin The furthest destination, so about two days are added
Adana, Konya and Gaziantep Mersin The shortest distance from the port

A Turkish address is written in its local order: neighbourhood, then street, then building and flat number, then district and province, together with a Turkish mobile the consignee will answer on delivery day. Destination page: shipping to Turkey.

Door to door and temporary storage

Short answer: in the door-to-door service one party handles collection, transport, booking, both clearances, delivery and assembly, and you follow everything with one number. Its price covers all of that work, and does not cover the duties and taxes the Turkish state charges if any fall due, nor port storage if the consignee’s papers are late. Anyone with a broker and a truck in Turkey can collect from the port at a lower price.

If your Turkish flat is not ready or your residence permit has not yet been issued, we keep your furniture in our warehouse, packed and numbered, until you give us the signal to ship. That way you vacate your home in the Kingdom on your date and pay no storage in a Turkish port. Details are on the door to door and storage pages.

Air freight from Saudi Arabia to Turkey

Air freight from Saudi Arabia to Turkey

Short answer: air freight gets your parcel to Istanbul in a few days, and starts from SAR 83 for documents and SAR 110 for a parcel. It takes off from Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam airports on direct flights to Istanbul, and from Madinah airport when its flight suits. It is the route for parcels and light goods, not for furniture or an ordinary car.

Departure airport Serves Door-to-door time to Istanbul
King Khalid, Riyadh Riyadh, Qassim and the central region 2–4 days
King Abdulaziz, Jeddah Jeddah, Makkah, Taif and the south 2–4 days
King Fahd, Dammam Dammam, Khobar, Jubail and Al-Ahsa 2–4 days
Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz, Madinah Madinah and Yanbu 2–4 days, or via Jeddah
  • What suits it: documents, gifts, clothes, commercial samples, spare parts, and a student’s or pilgrim’s luggage.
  • How it is charged: per kilogram on chargeable weight. Volumetric weight is the three dimensions in centimetres multiplied together and divided by 6000, and you will find it in the volumetric weight calculator.
  • Prices: SAR 200 for a parcel between 5 and 20 kg, SAR 1,100 for fifty kilograms, and SAR 17 per kilogram from 300 kg upwards, all of them starting prices.
  • Other cities: Ankara, Izmir, Antalya and Trabzon in 3–5 days via Istanbul, and in summer we book on direct flights to them when available.
  • Air restrictions: no flammable liquids or compressed gases, and a lithium battery travels only inside its device.

The service is explained on the air freight page, and the two routes are compared on the shipping methods comparison page.

Is there land freight from Saudi Arabia to Turkey?

Short answer: we do not offer it as a main route. Between the two countries lie Jordan and Syria or Iraq, and each border means transit clearance, waiting and rules that change, and the load may be moved from one truck to another. A sea container avoids all of that: it is sealed in your city and opened at the Turkish port. We use trucks where they are the natural route, to the Gulf, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon, as on the land freight page.

Steps for shipping from Saudi Arabia to Turkey

  1. The request: you write to us on 0552803439 with what you want to ship and photos, your city in the Kingdom, and the consignee’s province.
  2. The customs question: we learn from you the consignee’s position in Turkey: residence permit, housing contract, tax number.
  3. The proposal: we settle sea or air, a container or cubic metres, and the Turkish port, and send the price itemised.
  4. Fixing the date: you book the collection day and send photos of the papers.
  5. Packing and inventory: the crew at your address, leaving with a numbered list of which you keep a copy.
  6. To the port or airport: a closed truck, then the export declaration.
  7. On the way: you receive the container or waybill number, and a message at every stage.
  8. In Turkey: clearance, then delivery at the port or unloading and assembly at home.

Tracking and insurance

Short answer: you follow a container by its number on the shipping line’s website and a parcel by its waybill number on the airline’s website, and insurance is optional at a premium calculated as a percentage of the declared value. Because shipments leave from different cities and pass through one port, we send you an update at five points: leaving your city, entering Jeddah port, sailing, the Suez Canal transit, and arrival at the Turkish port.

  • Self-tracking: the method for each shipping line is on the track your shipment page.
  • What insurance covers: loss and damage in transit according to the policy; its terms are on the cargo insurance page.
  • Basis of a claim: the inventory and the pre-packing photos, which is why we photograph every piece of value.
  • Delivery day: check the numbers against the list before you sign, and write your remark on the delivery receipt itself.

Shipping from Turkey to Saudi Arabia

Short answer: yes, we ship in the opposite direction, and demand for it is strong all year. Turkish furniture from Inegol and Kayseri, carpets and furnishings, clothing from Istanbul’s markets, and finishing and lighting materials are gathered from several suppliers into one container. It sails from Ambarli or Mersin to Jeddah port, or to Dammam for Eastern Province customers, and is then cleared and moved to your city. Air parcels reach Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam airports in 3 to 5 days.

  • On arrival: a customs duty that follows the product, and 15% value added tax.
  • Goods subject to technical regulations: registered on the SABER platform before they leave Turkey.
  • A returnee’s effects: a Saudi who has ended a stay in Turkey brings in used belongings with a contents list.

Tips before shipping to Turkey

  • Start with the residence permit, the housing contract and the tax number, then set the furniture date.
  • Ask the owner of the Turkish flat to notarise the contract, as an ordinary contract is not accepted for the exemption.
  • Take new appliances out of their original cartons, and do not duplicate the same kind.
  • Match your name on the bill of lading to your passport in the same Latin letters.
  • Book your ticket so that you are in Turkey a few days before the container.
  • Carry gold, cash, original documents and medicine with you.

How do you choose a shipping company from Saudi Arabia to Turkey?

Short answer: choose the one that asks about your Turkish papers before giving you a price, and that breaks its price down item by item. Figures alone mislead, since a price to the port and a price to the door are two different things. These six questions show the difference:

Ask about A reassuring answer A worrying answer
Registration Commercial registration, premises and a stamped receipt A mobile number and a social account, nothing more
Customs exemption “Show me the residence permit and housing contract first” “Your furniture enters duty-free whatever it is”
Sea transit Specific weeks from your door, according to your city “Ten days from any city”
Price breakdown Inland transport, ocean freight, clearance, delivery A lump sum with no items
The car Explains temporary entry, its period and its conditions Promises Turkish plates or a sale there
The Turkish side A licensed broker at the arrival port Its responsibility stops at the ship

Common mistakes when shipping from Saudi Arabia to Turkey

  • Sending the container before the Turkish residence permit is issued.
  • Settling for a tenancy contract that is not notarised.
  • A general inventory with no brands or serial numbers for appliances.
  • A phone, perfume or food supplement inside an individual’s parcel.
  • Assuming the car will be sold or registered in Turkey.
  • Preferring a cheaper port hundreds of kilometres from the consignee.
  • Booking at the height of summer a few days before travelling.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Saudi Arabia to Turkey

How much does shipping from Saudi Arabia to Turkey cost?

Our lowest starting prices are SAR 83 for documents by air, SAR 110 for an air parcel of no more than 5 kg, SAR 415 per cubic metre in a shared container, SAR 1,100 for a bedroom, SAR 2,800 for a saloon car by RoRo and SAR 4,600 for a 20ft container from Jeddah port. Transport from your city to the port is added according to how far it is. Send us the two cities and the volume on 0552803439.

How long does a shipment from Saudi Arabia to Turkey take?

An air parcel is handed over in Istanbul two to 4 days after we collect it, and in other cities after 3 to 5 days. A full container needs 15 to 28 days to reach Mersin, depending on the collection city, and 19 to 32 days to reach Istanbul. A shared container takes 22 to 40 days because it waits for consolidation to finish.

Which Saudi cities do you collect from?

All of them: Riyadh, Jeddah, Makkah, Madinah, Dammam, Khobar, Jubail, Taif, Buraydah, Unaizah, Tabuk, Abha, Khamis Mushait and Jazan. The crew packs on your premises, and a closed truck carries the load to the port or airport it leaves from.

Which Saudi port does the container sail from to Turkey?

Jeddah Islamic Port for most shipments, including those coming from Riyadh and Qassim, because a ship enters the Suez Canal from there without circling the Arabian Peninsula. King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam is an option for some Eastern Province shipments when its schedule suits them, and its voyage is usually about a week longer.

Which Turkish port does the shipment arrive at?

We decide from the consignee’s address. Mersin for the south and central Anatolia; it is the first large port after the Suez Canal. Ambarli for Istanbul and Thrace. Gemlik or Kocaeli for Bursa and the Asian side. Izmir for the Aegean coast. Iskenderun for Hatay and the south-east.

Is there land freight from Saudi Arabia to Turkey?

We do not rely on it. The two countries share no border, and a truck has to cross Jordan and then Syria or Iraq under transit procedures that keep changing. A sea container stays sealed from loading to the Turkish port and costs less per cubic metre, so we keep to sea and air.

Are my used household goods exempt from Turkish customs?

Under current practice, the furniture of someone moving to live there is exempt if they hold a residence or work permit, present a notarised one-year tenancy contract or a title deed and an inventory with brands and serial numbers, attend clearance in person, and the shipment arrives inside the set window around their entry date. We go through the rules in force with you before we book.

What charges apply to new goods in Turkey?

Usually three items: a customs duty that follows the product and its country of origin, value added tax at a general rate of 20%, and a special consumption tax on particular products. The Turkish importer pays them, and our broker sends him the amount before the payment date.

How much does it cost to ship one car to Turkey?

A saloon by RoRo from Jeddah port to Mersin starts from SAR 2,800, and a car in its own 20ft container from SAR 4,600. Four-wheel drives and commercial vehicles are priced on their dimensions. Moving the car by carrier from your city to the port is added.

Can my Saudi car be registered on Turkish plates?

In most cases, no. Turkey restricts the permanent import of used cars very tightly. What works in practice is temporary entry on its Saudi plates, for a period that follows the owner’s status: up to 730 days for a holder of a Turkish residence permit and for a Turk living abroad under current practice, and 90 days for a visitor.

Does the consignee pay customs on a personal parcel?

Yes, under current practice. Turkey has no value threshold below which a parcel is exempt, so every parcel is cleared on a declaration and charged duty and tax, and the word “gift” does not change that. Phones, cosmetics and food supplements are not delivered to individuals in parcels.

Will my fridge, air conditioner and washing machine work in Turkey?

Mostly, yes. The supply in Turkey is 230 volts at 50 hertz and wall sockets there take two round pins, so a plug adaptor is enough for most appliances. For a motor-driven appliance built for 60 hertz only, read its label before shipping, and tell us if you are unsure.

How do I follow my shipment, and is it insured?

We send you the container number or the air waybill, so you can follow it on the shipping line’s or airline’s website, and we update you ourselves at every stage. Insurance is yours to request, its premium is a percentage of the value you declare, and we consider it important for a car, a full household and appliances.

What are the payment methods, and are there offers?

We agree the payment method and its dates at booking: bank transfer, a mada card or a credit card. Repeat shipments, a full container, and furniture shipped together with a car get a better price than a single shipment, and we state it in the price breakdown.

Do you ship from Turkey to Saudi Arabia?

Yes, and the route is busy in that direction. We gather your purchases from the factories and shops of Istanbul, Bursa, Inegol and Kayseri and ship them by sea to Jeddah or Dammam port, or by air to Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam airports, then clear them and deliver to your city.
