Who ships from Mecca to Turkey, and what do they ship?
The Makkah–Turkey line differs from the Kingdom’s other lines. Most of its users are visitors, not residents: a Turkish Umrah or Hajj pilgrim going home with more than they brought, or a whole group whose luggage exceeds what the aircraft allows. After them come Turks who worked for years in Makkah and are returning home, Saudi families who bought a flat in Istanbul, Bursa or Trabzon and are furnishing it, and traders who buy from Makkah’s markets. Each of them has a method that suits the size of the shipment and its deadline:
| Shipper | What they ship | Best method |
|---|---|---|
| A Turkish Umrah or Hajj pilgrim | Suitcases and cartons of gifts, dates and prayer rugs | Air for urgent items, part-load sea for the cheaper option |
| An Umrah or Hajj group | The luggage of a whole group | One shipment with a numbered tag on every suitcase |
| A Turk returning from work in Makkah | Household effects and the car | A container, and RoRo for the car |
| A family relocating or owning a flat in Turkey | A houseful of furniture, or a room or two | A full container, or by the cubic metre |
| A trader | Dates, prayer beads, rugs, ihram clothing and assorted goods | A full or shared container, with an invoice |
| Someone with an urgent matter | Documents, samples and spare parts | Air freight |
The route from Mecca to Turkey and how long it takes
A sea shipment leaves Makkah by truck for Jeddah Islamic Port, the Kingdom’s largest port on the Red Sea. From there the ship heads north up the Red Sea, passes through the Suez Canal into the Mediterranean, and reaches the Turkish coast. The first large Turkish port on its way is Mersin. We give you the time from your door in Makkah to the consignee’s door, not the sailing time alone, because before the sailing come collection and clearance, and after it come Turkish clearance and delivery. These are the stages of a full container:
| Stage | What happens | Usual time |
|---|---|---|
| Collection in Makkah | Dismantling, packing, inventory and loading in the hours permitted for trucks | One day |
| Transfer to Jeddah port | A truck on the motorway, about 80 km | The same day |
| Export and waiting for the ship | Export clearance and handing the container to the shipping line | 3–7 days |
| Sailing | Jeddah → Suez Canal → Mersin | 7–12 days on a direct service |
| Turkish clearance | Customs declaration, inspection and payment of duties | 3–5 working days |
| Delivery inside Turkey | From the port to the consignee’s city | 1–3 days |
That figure is not fixed; the port and the method move it. A ship needs extra days to reach Istanbul after Mersin, a shared container does not move until it is full, which lengthens a part load, and a plane folds the whole trip into a few days:
| Method | Route | Time from Makkah | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full container to Mersin | Makkah → Jeddah → Suez → Mersin | 15–25 days | A whole home and wholesale goods |
| Full container to Istanbul | The same route, then the Aegean and Marmara | 19–29 days | Istanbul, Bursa and their surroundings |
| Part-load sea freight | In a shared container | 22–37 days | Group luggage, cartons and a room or two |
| RoRo for cars | A carrier to Jeddah, then a car vessel | 15–25 days | A car that runs under its own power |
| Air | Jeddah airport → Istanbul | 2–4 days | Parcels, documents and urgent luggage |
What lengthens the time?
- Transhipment: some lines change vessel at an intermediate port, which makes the sailing about three weeks.
- Hajj and the end of Ramadan: truck entry to Makkah is restricted, so loading is delayed unless it is booked early.
- An incomplete file: a name on the bill of lading that does not match the passport, or a missing Turkish ID number, stops clearance.
- The owner’s absence: Turkish customs asks the owner to attend the clearance of personal furniture.
Detailed times are on the transit times page.
Shipping prices from Mecca to Turkey
The price from Makkah has three parts: collection and the transfer to Jeddah, the sea or air freight, and the services in Turkey if you ask for delivery to the door. Makkah’s closeness to the port and the airport keeps the first part small, unlike distant inland cities. We write each part as a separate item, so you know what you are paying and why. These are the prices our services start from:
| What you ship | Method | Price starts from |
|---|---|---|
| A cubic metre | Part-load sea freight | SAR 415 |
| By the kilogram above 100 kg | Consolidated sea freight | SAR 4.15 per kilogram |
| A bedroom | Part-load sea freight | SAR 1,100 |
| 20ft container | Sea freight from Jeddah port | SAR 4,600 |
| 40ft container | Sea freight from Jeddah port | SAR 5,200 |
| A saloon car | RoRo from Jeddah port to Mersin | SAR 2,800 |
| Documents up to one kilogram | Express air | SAR 83 |
| A parcel up to 5 kg | Air | SAR 110 |
| A parcel or suitcase from 5 to 20 kg | Air | SAR 200 |
| A 50 kg shipment | Air | SAR 1,100 |
| Large weights, 300 kg and above | Air | SAR 17 per kilogram |
| Transfer from Makkah to Jeddah and delivery inside Turkey | By volume and city | Set on request |
The prices circulating in the market for this line are higher on most items. An air parcel up to 5 kg is quoted between SAR 150 and 340, and with express couriers between SAR 120 and 360 for a small parcel, with the first kilogram between SAR 70 and 100. A medium parcel of 20 kg is quoted between SAR 900 and 2,100, and the kilogram in small express parcels between SAR 70 and 155. A sea parcel up to 50 kg is between SAR 480 and 1,150. Sea freight for the container alone runs between SAR 4,200 and 8,800 for a 20ft, and between SAR 5,200 and 12,500 for a 40ft, and a car between SAR 3,500 and 8,500. Shipping-line rates change from week to week, so we fix your price on the booking day with a clear validity period.
| What sets the price | Its effect |
|---|---|
| The method | Sea is cheaper for volume; air costs several times more and is faster |
| Volume or weight | By the cubic metre at sea, by chargeable weight in the air. Work it out with the volume calculator |
| The Turkish port | Mersin is nearer and cheaper than Istanbul and Izmir |
| Where the home is in Makkah | A narrow or steep street needs a small vehicle to shuttle to the truck |
| Scope of service | To the Turkish port, or to the consignee’s door with clearance |
| The season | The weeks after Hajj, Ramadan and summer see the highest demand |
How do you lower the cost?
- Choose a part load if your volume is under 15 cubic metres and your date is not pressing.
- Combine the group’s luggage into one shipment by the cubic metre instead of scattered parcels.
- Ask for Mersin if your city is in the south or centre; its freight is lower than Istanbul’s.
- Send only the urgent items by air, and leave the rest to the sea.
- Book two weeks before Hajj and Ramadan; demand rises and loading hours shrink.
The factors are explained on the pricing factors page.
What is particular about shipping from Makkah?
Makkah is unlike other cities when it comes to loading. It has no airport and no port, so every international shipment from it passes through Jeddah. Large trucks enter at set hours, and the limits tighten in Ramadan and Hajj. Many of its districts sit on hillsides with narrow, steep streets. And half its shipments leave from hotels, not homes. Whoever allows for all this gives you a date they can keep, and this is how we handle each case:
| The situation in Makkah | Its effect | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| No port and no airport | Sea and air both leave from Jeddah | We move the shipment to the port or airport on the day of collection |
| Truck entry hours | Loading is not possible at any time | We fix the appointment in advance within the permitted hours |
| Narrow and steep streets | The truck or container cannot reach the door | A small vehicle shuttles the items to the nearest wide street or to our warehouse |
| Hajj season and the end of Ramadan | Tighter limits and congestion | We load before the season, or store the shipment until it is over |
| Hotel accommodation | No room for lengthy packing | We collect suitcases and cartons ready from reception against a receipt |
When a container cannot enter your district, we load the furniture into a closed truck and stuff the container at our warehouse near the port, with a numbered inventory and photos, so nothing changes in the service or the clearance.
Shipping pilgrims’ luggage from Mecca to Turkey

Turks are among the largest nationalities present in Makkah for Umrah and Hajj, and most arrive by air in organised groups and stay in hotels near the Grand Mosque. A visitor goes home with more than a suitcase holds: dates, prayer rugs, prayer beads, clothing and gifts for family and neighbours. Airlines charge for every extra kilogram, and the baggage allowance on group flights is limited. The answer is for the visitor to travel light and let the luggage follow to their city.
This luggage has two routes. Urgent items, and anything awaited before an occasion, fly via Jeddah airport and arrive within days. The bulk that its owner is in no hurry for travels by sea as a part load to Mersin, then by road to their province, at a much lower cost per kilogram. Many groups combine the two: a small carton per pilgrim by air, and the rest of the luggage by sea.
| Case | Method | Time from Makkah | Price starts from |
|---|---|---|---|
| An urgent suitcase or carton for one pilgrim | Air via Jeddah airport | 2–4 days to Istanbul | SAR 200 from 5 to 20 kg |
| A small gift parcel | Air | 2–4 days | SAR 110 up to 5 kg |
| The luggage of a family or several pilgrims | Part-load sea freight by the cubic metre | 22–37 days | SAR 415 per cubic metre |
| The luggage of a whole group | Part-load sea freight or a container | 15–37 days depending on volume | SAR 4,600 for a 20ft container |
- Collection from the hotel: suitcases and cartons are left at reception, and we collect them against a receipt showing the number of pieces and the group leader’s name.
- A numbered tag on every suitcase: it carries the owner’s name as in the passport, their Turkish ID number, Turkish mobile and city. So the luggage of the group’s members is not mixed up, and each share is cleared in its owner’s name.
- The group manifest: one list of tag numbers, owners and the contents of each piece, with a copy handed to the leader.
- Packing: a suitcase is stretch-wrapped, a carton is double-walled, and dates go in sealed boxes away from clothing.
- Distribution in Turkey: from Mersin or Istanbul to the owners’ addresses in their provinces, or to one point named by the group.
- What must not go in: Zamzam water, perfumes and cosmetics, phones, cash and gold, passports, and medicines you need on the journey.
- Timing: hand over your luggage two or three days before you leave Makkah, and do not wait for the day of travel, especially after Hajj when demand is high.
Turkish customs clears every shipment on a declaration in the consignee’s name. Used personal effects that follow a traveller have their own treatment, with conditions and a time window around the date of arrival, while new gifts are assessed on their value. We review the rules in force with our broker before shipping, and tell every consignee what is due before the luggage arrives.
Sea freight from Mecca to Turkey via Jeddah port

Sea is the first choice for every large shipment: a whole home, wholesale goods, a car or a group’s luggage. Makkah’s location helps: Jeddah Islamic Port is only about 80 km away, and a ship leaving it enters the Suez Canal directly without sailing round the Arabian Peninsula. The practical rule between the two methods: air for urgent items and sea for the cheaper option; the comparison is on the shipping methods comparison page. Sailings from Jeddah to Mersin are regular, every one to two weeks, direct or with transhipment at an intermediate port.
The container is loaded at your home or warehouse in Makkah when the street allows, sealed with a number written on the bill of lading, then moved to the port. At the port it is cleared for export and handed to the shipping line. It stays sealed until it is opened before Turkish customs in the presence of its owner or their broker.
- Destinations: to Mersin, Istanbul and Izmir, and to Iskenderun when needed.
- Types: a dry 20ft or 40ft container, a high-cube container for bulky light furniture, and an open-top container for over-height cargo.
- The two ways: a full container for you alone, or a part load for a small amount of furniture, small goods and group luggage.
For more: the sea freight page explains the service itself, while the article international sea freight from Jeddah deals with departure through Jeddah port.
A full container or a part load?
The difference lies in who shares the container with you. In a full container, nobody: your goods sit alone behind a seal that is not broken before the Turkish port. In a part load you split the container with other shippers and are charged for the cubic metres your goods took up, nothing more. What tips the choice is the volume of your shipment and the date you need it by.
| Comparison | Full container | Part load |
|---|---|---|
| You pay for | The whole container | What you occupy, by the cubic metre |
| Time from Makkah | 15–25 days to Mersin | 22–37 days |
| Handling | One loading and one unloading | Consolidated and sorted in two warehouses |
| Best for | A whole home, or more than 15 cubic metres | Cartons, suitcases and a room or two |
| Price starts from | SAR 4,600 for a 20ft container | SAR 415 per cubic metre |
As a guide: the furniture of a flat with two or three bedrooms fills a 20ft container, whose capacity is about 28 cubic metres. A whole house, or furniture together with a car, calls for the 40ft size at roughly 58 cubic metres. You will find the dimensions set out on the container sizes page, and the rates for each size in the article container shipping prices from Jeddah.
Shipments arriving in Mersin and the Turkish ports

Mersin is the nearest large Turkish port for ships leaving the Suez Canal, on the southern coast facing the Mediterranean. That is why it usually has the shortest time and the lowest freight. From it the roads branch out to central and eastern Anatolia, the regions many pilgrims return to: Konya, Kayseri, Gaziantep, Adana and Ankara. After customs release the shipment is loaded onto a Turkish truck and travels by road to the consignee’s province.
But Turkey is a large country, and Mersin and Istanbul are more than 900 km apart by road. So a container bound for Bursa or Istanbul is not discharged at Mersin; it continues to a nearer port. We choose the port by the consignee’s city and the vessel schedule:
| Port | Location | Cities it serves |
|---|---|---|
| Mersin | The south, on the Mediterranean | Mersin, Adana, Gaziantep, Konya, Kayseri, Ankara, Antalya |
| Iskenderun | The south, near Hatay | Hatay and south-eastern Turkey |
| Ambarli | Istanbul, the European side | Istanbul and Thrace |
| Kocaeli and Gemlik | East and south of the Sea of Marmara | Asian Istanbul, Bursa, Yalova, Sakarya |
| Izmir | The west, on the Aegean | Izmir and the western cities |
The rule is clearance first, then delivery. A container does not leave the port before its duties are paid and the release is issued. Details are on the ports and gateways page.
Shipping household furniture from Mecca to Turkey
Furniture leaving Makkah stays in the container for weeks in sea humidity, then is opened before Turkish customs and its pieces are checked against the inventory. So packing and the inventory are conditions for both safety and clearance. We survey the home first, by photos or a visit, to learn the volume and whether the container can reach the door or a small vehicle is needed.
- Dismantling: we take apart kitchens, wardrobes, bedrooms and sitting rooms, and each piece gets a numbered bag that holds its screws and is tied to it.
- Packing against sea humidity: blankets for wood, then tight stretch film, and desiccant bags in the cartons of clothing and appliances. Leather is not wrapped directly in plastic.
- The numbered inventory: pieces and cartons are entered in it one by one. Electrical appliances are recorded with their brand and serial number, since these are among the things customs in Turkey asks about.
- Loading: heavy items at the bottom, fragile ones in the middle and light ones on top; gaps are filled and the load is lashed inside the container.
- In Turkey: unloading and carrying into the flat, checking against the list in your presence, and assembly if you ask for it.
For delivery in Istanbul in particular we need two facts along with the Turkish address: the floor number and how wide the stairs are, because a large share of its older buildings lack a roomy lift. The service is described in full on the furniture shipping page, and the way each piece is wrapped in the packing guide.
Shipping electrical appliances and electronics
The fridge, washing machine, air conditioner and television are what suffer most on a long journey if loaded as they are: a shock harms the compressor and the screen, and humidity harms the circuit boards. So they are prepared before packing, the batteries of small devices are removed in line with international transport rules, and the condition of each appliance is photographed. A fridge is unplugged a day earlier, dried and shipped upright; a washing machine has its drum fixed with transit bolts; an air conditioner is removed by a refrigeration technician who pumps the gas down into the outdoor unit; and a screen goes in a reinforced carton with foam corners.
Before you decide which appliances to take, know two matters. Power: the supply in Turkey is 230 volts with a frequency of 50 hertz, and wall sockets there follow the European pattern of two round pins. A plug adaptor is therefore a must, and for anything with a motor you read the label to be sure it runs on 50 hertz. Customs: the original carton makes a used appliance look new and it is then treated as new, so we do not ship it that way. And if you carry two appliances of one type, duty may be levied on the duplicate.
Shipping personal parcels from Mecca to Turkey
Not everyone who ships is a pilgrim or relocating. Many send a carton of dates to a relative, a gift for an occasion, or a student’s books. These go by air if they are under about 100 kg or urgent, and by sea as a part load if they are larger and not pressed by a date. We collect them from your door in Makkah, so you do not carry them to Jeddah yourself.
| Parcel | Method | Price starts from | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Documents up to one kilogram | Express air | SAR 83 | Contracts, certificates and official papers |
| A parcel up to 5 kg | Air | SAR 110 | Gifts, prayer beads and clothing |
| A parcel from 5 to 20 kg | Air | SAR 200 | A carton or a suitcase |
| A 50 kg shipment | Air | SAR 1,100 | Several cartons on one air waybill |
| Many or heavy cartons | Part-load sea freight | SAR 415 per cubic metre, or SAR 4.15 per kilogram above 100 kg | The cheaper way for those in no hurry |
- Clearance: a customs declaration is compulsory for any parcel bound for Turkey, whether its contents are dear or cheap, and describing it as a “gift” does not lift the duty.
- Weight of a personal parcel: the ceiling in current practice is 30 kg. Over that it counts as a commercial shipment and needs a customs broker.
- Consignee details: three things we ask for with every parcel: a Turkish mobile, the foreigner number or Turkish ID number, and the name exactly as the ID shows it.
- Repeat parcels: for regular senders we combine the parcels into one shipment to reach a cheaper weight band.
Details are on the parcel shipping page.
Shipping commercial goods and containers from Mecca to Turkey
Makkah’s markets are a source of goods in demand in Turkey all year round: dates, prayer rugs, prayer beads, ihram clothing, and Hajj and Umrah gifts. Added to them is what the region’s factories and warehouses export. Commercial goods enter Turkey in the name of an importer with a tax number, through a licensed customs broker. What is prepared correctly in Makkah passes through the Turkish port without stopping.
| Item | Shipping method | What it needs |
|---|---|---|
| Dates and foodstuffs | A dry or refrigerated container | Health certificate and certificate of origin, and approval from the Turkish agricultural authority |
| Prayer rugs, textiles and clothing | Part-load sea freight or a container | An invoice itemised by type, quantity and country of origin |
| Prayer beads and gifts | Part-load sea freight, or air for small quantities | A precise description of the material on the invoice |
| Commercial samples | Air | An invoice marked “sample of no commercial value” |
A trader or small business gets a fixed schedule, collection from the shop or warehouse, short storage until the order is complete, and delivery to the factory or shop door in Turkey on request. Details are on the commercial shipping page.
Car shipping from Mecca to Turkey
Makkah’s closeness to Jeddah port shortens the start of the journey: a car carrier collects the car from your home and delivers it to the port within hours. Before loading, the car is inspected and photographed from every side, and a condition report is written for you to sign. Then it ships by one of two methods and sails to Mersin in most cases, since it has the most car sailings of any Turkish port:
| Method | How it works | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| RoRo | A port driver drives the car up a ramp into the ship’s hold, and it is lashed by the wheels | An ordinary car that runs under its own power; the cheapest option |
| 20ft container | One car secured with straps and chocks, and the container sealed | Luxury, classic and non-running cars |
| 40ft container | Two cars, or a car with the household furniture | A family relocating with furniture and car |
The RoRo fare for a saloon starts from SAR 2,800 between Jeddah port and Mersin, and for those who choose a 20ft container the price starts from SAR 4,600. Anything larger than a saloon is priced on its dimensions. RoRo vessels set two conditions: none of your belongings stay in the car, and the fuel is no more than a quarter of the tank. To weigh the two methods, see the RoRo car shipping page and the container car shipping page.
Conditions for a car entering Turkey
The first question before shipping is not about price, but: will my car get in, and how long can it stay? A Saudi car usually enters temporarily on its own plate, not as a permanent import. This is the current practice, and we confirm what is in force before any booking:
| Item | The rule in practice |
|---|---|
| Residence abroad | The owner must have lived outside Turkey for at least 185 days in the last year |
| Length of stay | Up to 730 days for a Turk living abroad and for a holder of Turkish residence, and 90 days within 180 days for others |
| Owner’s presence | The owner attends the clearance, and the car is recorded on their passport |
| Sale and rental | Both prohibited while the car is on its foreign plate |
| Permanent import | Tightly restricted for used cars and heavily taxed, so it does not suit most cases |
Leaving the Kingdom has its own paperwork. If the car is coming back, its plates stay on and a temporary exit permit is issued for it. If it is pledged to a finance company, a no-objection letter from that company is required. As for the triptik booklet, we get it ready for you ahead of travel, and you will find it explained on the triptik and carnet page. The rest of what concerns this line is in the article car shipping from Jeddah to Turkey.
Customs clearance procedures in Turkey
Clearance happens twice: export at Jeddah’s port or airport, and import in Turkey. The first is quick if the file is complete. The second is what sets the date of receipt, because Turkish customs distinguishes three things: used furniture of someone moving to live there, new goods, and a personal parcel. This is a summary of current practice; the rules change, so we review those in force with our broker in Turkey before the shipment moves:
| Item | Current practice |
|---|---|
| Who qualifies for the furniture exemption | A foreigner holding a valid work or residence permit, and a Turk returning for good after living abroad |
| Proof of housing | A tenancy contract notarised for at least one year, or the property’s title deed |
| Condition of the goods | Used and in proportion to the size of the family. New and duplicate appliances are charged duty |
| Arrival date | Within a set window around the owner’s date of entry, commonly from two months before to 6 months after |
| Owner’s presence | Usually required, and the name on the bill of lading must match the passport letter for letter |
| New goods | Three charges may apply: customs duty set by the type of goods and where they were made, VAT at the general 20% rate, and on certain items a special consumption tax |
| A personal parcel | No low-value exemption: every parcel has a customs declaration, duty and tax |
Note: the papers go ahead of the furniture, not the other way round. Do not book while your Turkish residence is still to be issued or your housing contract is unfinished: a container that reaches the port when its owner has no papers sits there waiting, and the cost of the wait falls on the owner. Duties do not pass through us; the consignee settles them with Turkish customs itself, once our broker has told them how much. The clearance steps are explained on the customs clearance page.
Documents required for shipping from Mecca to Turkey
We go through the file of every shipment paper by paper while it is still in Makkah, and we do not move it to Jeddah with anything missing. A missing paper is completed here within a single hour; if the gap shows up at the Turkish port, it costs days of delay and storage charges. What you are asked for depends on the kind of shipment:
| Type of shipment | Documents | Note |
|---|---|---|
| An Umrah or Hajj pilgrim’s luggage | A copy of the passport, a statement of contents and their value, and the Turkish ID number, mobile and address | Each owner has their own details, even when the shipment is for a group |
| Furniture and effects of someone relocating | Passport, Turkish tax number, a work or residence permit for Turkey, the property’s title deed or its notarised tenancy contract, the bill of lading and a detailed inventory list | A notarised power of attorney for the broker in Turkey |
| Commercial goods | The importer’s details with their tax number, a commercial invoice together with the packing list, a certificate of origin and the bill of lading | Some items need health or conformity certificates |
| A car | The vehicle registration, the owner’s passport and driving licence, the triptik, an exit permit or export certificate, and insurance that is valid in Turkey | Reviewed with the entry conditions before booking |
Each document is explained on the shipping documents page.
What cannot be shipped from Mecca to Turkey or needs a permit
A single prohibited piece is enough to hold up everything shipped with it: customs does not pull it out and let the rest go, it detains the container or parcel with all its contents until the matter is settled. So we check the contents list before we collect, and ask each pilgrim what went into the suitcase while it is still open. The main things to know:
| Item | Status |
|---|---|
| Zamzam water | Not shipped. Its export is restricted; what is available is the traveller’s pack carried on the flight |
| Drugs, weapons and ammunition, and explosives | Prohibited |
| Meat and meat products in personal effects | Prohibited |
| Plants, seeds and seedlings | With a phytosanitary certificate; prohibited in personal parcels |
| Mobile phones in parcels | Not delivered to individuals by post or express |
| Cosmetics, perfumes and food supplements | Not accepted for individuals in parcels; commercially with permits |
| Medicines | On prescription and in a personal quantity |
| E-cigarettes and their liquids | Prohibited |
| Lithium batteries and flammable liquids | Batteries only inside their devices by air; flammable liquids and compressed gases are prohibited |
| Cash, gold and original documents | Not shipped; they stay with you |
Whatever the table leaves out is listed on the prohibited items page. And if one particular thing makes you hesitate, call us and check before it goes into the suitcase or the carton.
The Turkish cities we deliver to
We deliver at the port or airport for those who have a broker and a truck, and to the consignee’s door for those who want one party to handle everything. Inland delivery is by Turkish trucks after customs release, and its time follows the city’s distance from the port of arrival. The door-to-door shipping service covers collection, packing, the transfer to Jeddah, sea or air freight, clearance on both sides and delivery, and does not cover Turkish duties and taxes if due. These are the main cities:
| City | Port or airport of arrival | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Istanbul | Ambarli by sea; Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Gokcen by air | State the European or Asian side; the city spans two continents |
| Bursa, Yalova and Sakarya | Gemlik, Kocaeli or Ambarli | A common destination for owners of summer homes |
| Ankara | Mersin, then about 480 km by road | And by air via Istanbul |
| Konya and Kayseri | Mersin, then by road | Much pilgrims’ luggage returns to them |
| Izmir | Izmir port | And onward to the Aegean cities |
| Trabzon and Rize | By road from Istanbul or Mersin | The furthest cities by road, adding about two days to delivery |
| Mersin, Adana and Gaziantep | Mersin port | The shortest and cheapest routes |
The address is written in Turkish letters and in the order used there: the name of the neighbourhood (Mahalle) first, then the street, the building number followed by the flat, and after that the district and the city. Add a Turkish mobile number to it. General information on the destination is on the shipping to Turkey page.
Air freight from Mecca to Turkey

Makkah has no airport, so air freight leaves via King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah. We collect the shipment from your door or hotel and move it to the airport’s cargo village the same day. There are daily direct flights between Jeddah and Istanbul, with a flying time of about four hours. Door to door it takes two to 4 days to Istanbul, and 3 to 5 days to Ankara, Izmir and Antalya, including clearance at both airports.
- For whom: documents, pilgrims’ urgent luggage, parcels, commercial samples and spare parts.
- Calculation: we measure the parcel in centimetres, multiply its length by its width by its height and divide the result by 6000, which gives its volumetric weight. We compare that with its weight on the scale, and the charge follows the higher figure. Try it in the volumetric weight calculator.
- Price: the heavier the shipment, the lower the rate per kilogram: large weights start from SAR 17 for a single kilogram, a 50 kg shipment from SAR 1,100, a small parcel up to 5 kg from SAR 110, and lowest of all an envelope of documents from SAR 83.
- What it does not suit: furniture, ordinary cars and bulky goods, which cost many times more by air than by sea.
- Restricted by air: no compressed gases or flammable liquids go on the aircraft, and a lithium battery is accepted only when fitted inside its device.
Details are on the air freight page, and in the article air freight from Jeddah to Turkey.
Is there land freight from Mecca to Turkey?
We do not rely on it on this line. Turkey has no land border with the Kingdom, and the road to it crosses more than one country with transit procedures that change. The sea delivers the container sealed from Jeddah to the Turkish port at a lower cost. So we ship to Turkey by sea and air only, and leave the road to the Gulf states and Jordan; its details are on the land freight page.
Collection from Makkah’s districts and nearby towns
We pack and load at your location, in any district of Makkah: Aziziyah, Al-Sharai, Al-Shawqiyah, Al-Awali, Al-Naseem, Al-Zaidi, Kudai, Al-Utaybiyah, Batha Quraysh, Al-Zahir and Al-Rusayfah. We also collect from hotels and from nearby towns, and their shipments join the same run to Jeddah:
| Place | Distance from Makkah | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Hotels of the central area and Aziziyah | Inside Makkah | Suitcases and cartons collected from reception against a receipt |
| Hillside districts and narrow streets | Inside Makkah | A small vehicle shuttles to the truck |
| Al-Jumum and Bahrah | 20–40 km | Collected on the same day as Makkah |
| Jeddah | About 80 km | On the way to the port and airport, so it joins directly |
| Taif | About 90 km | Collected the day before loading |
You do not have to ship on the day you vacate your home. For anyone whose residence has not yet been issued, or whose Turkish flat is still not ready, we keep the goods in our warehouse under an inventory and numbers, and ship them on the date they choose. More on the service is on the storage page.
Steps for shipping from Mecca to Turkey
- Contact: you send photos of what you want shipped, along with the name of the district or hotel where you are staying in Makkah and the Turkish city where the consignee will receive it.
- Review of conditions: we ask about your status in Turkey: a returning visitor, a resident with a permit and a housing contract, or an importer. Each status has its own clearance.
- Method and price: we propose sea or air and the most suitable port, and you receive an itemised price.
- Booking: we set the collection day and its permitted hour, and ask for copies of the documents.
- Collection and packing: at your address, with a numbered inventory, photos and a collection receipt.
- Transfer and export: to Jeddah’s port or airport, with export clearance.
- Shipping and tracking: you receive the container or waybill number, and an update at every stage.
- Clearance and delivery: our Turkish broker sees the procedures through to release, after which you take your shipment at the port or at your door, and its pieces are checked off the inventory list.
Tracking and insurance
Between a container leaving Makkah and arriving lie weeks at sea, with six milestones, and we write to you at each one without being asked: departure from Makkah, entry to Jeddah port, the ship sailing, its passage of the Suez Canal, its arrival in Turkey, and finally the customs release.
- Tracking: open the airline’s or the shipping line’s website and enter the waybill or container number we sent you, and the position of the shipment appears. The method is on the track your shipment page.
- Insurance: we impose it on no one, and its premium is a percentage of the shipment value that you yourself declare. We think it is worth having in three cases: a car, a full household of furniture, or electrical appliances. More about it is on the cargo insurance page.
Shipping from Turkey to Mecca
The line works in both directions, and much comes from Turkey: furniture, furnishings and carpets from Istanbul, Bursa and Inegol, clothing and fabrics, and supplies for hotels and restaurants. We collect from the factory or shop, and combine your purchases from several suppliers into one shipment. The container sails from Mersin or Ambarli to Jeddah port, is cleared there, then is moved to Makkah and delivered in the hours permitted for trucks. Air freight to Jeddah airport takes 3 to 5 days. Imports pay Saudi duty by item and value added tax at 15%, and commercial goods subject to technical regulations are registered on the SABER platform before shipping.
Tips before shipping from Mecca to Turkey
- Book two weeks before Ramadan and Hajj, or choose a date outside them.
- Tell us if your street is narrow or steep, so we send the right vehicle.
- Write the owner’s name, Turkish ID number and mobile on every suitcase and carton.
- Finish your Turkish residence and notarised housing contract before you set the date for shipping furniture.
- Keep passports, gold, medicines and the Zamzam pack with you on the flight.
Securing methods inside the container are on the packing and lashing page.
How do you choose a shipping company from Mecca to Turkey?
Offers are many and their figures far apart, because each offer covers something different: one to Jeddah port, another to the door. So compare what each price covers before you compare prices. These signs separate those who know the line from those selling a promise:
| What you ask about | Reassuring sign | Warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| Premises and registration | Commercial registration, an address and a collection receipt | An anonymous account and a mobile number only |
| Makkah’s seasons | Asks about your date and allows for Hajj and Ramadan | Promises loading on any day at any hour |
| Turkish customs | Asks about residence and the ID number before pricing | Says everything enters duty-free |
| Contents | Asks what is in the suitcase and takes out what is prohibited | Accepts Zamzam, perfumes and phones |
| In Turkey | A known broker at the port of arrival | Their role ends at Jeddah port |
Common mistakes when shipping from Mecca to Turkey
- Handing over luggage on the day of travel or in Hajj week, when loading hours shrink.
- Leaving a group’s suitcases without tags or ID numbers, so they get mixed up and stall at clearance.
- Putting Zamzam water, perfumes or a phone in a shipped suitcase.
- Putting new appliances in their cartons with used furniture.
- Writing “gift” on the parcel in the belief that it exempts it from duty.
- Shipping furniture before the residence is issued or the tenancy contract notarised.
- Shipping a car intending to register or sell it in Turkey.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Mecca to Turkey
How much does shipping from Mecca to Turkey cost?
The cheapest thing we ship is an envelope of documents by air, from SAR 83, followed by an air parcel up to 5 kg from SAR 110. At sea, a cubic metre as a part load starts from SAR 415, a bedroom from SAR 1,100, a saloon on RoRo from SAR 2,800 and a 20ft container from SAR 4,600 from Jeddah port. The final price is set once we know the volume of your shipment and the consignee’s city in Turkey. To enquire: 0552803439.
How long does shipping from Mecca to Turkey take?
By air, two to 4 days to Istanbul and 3 to 5 days to the other cities. By sea in a full container, 15 to 25 days to Mersin and 19 to 29 days to Istanbul. As a part load, 22 to 37 days. The times run from your door or hotel in Makkah.
How is my shipment sent when Makkah has no port and no airport?
We truck it to Jeddah, about 80 km away. Sea freight leaves from Jeddah Islamic Port and air freight from King Abdulaziz Airport. The transfer to Jeddah is part of the service, so you deliver nothing yourself.
Do you ship the luggage of Turkish Umrah and Hajj pilgrims?
Yes. We collect suitcases and cartons from the hotel or lodging in Makkah and put a numbered tag on every piece with the owner’s name, Turkish ID number and city. Urgent items fly via Jeddah airport, and the luggage of large groups travels by sea to Mersin, which is the cheaper way.
Can Zamzam water be shipped to Turkey?
It cannot be shipped. Zamzam water is restricted for export, so we put it neither in a pilgrim’s suitcase nor in a trader’s container. The only way is the dedicated travel pack, which the traveller takes personally on the flight.
Which Turkish port does the shipment arrive at?
Mersin in most cases; it is the nearest large Turkish port for ships leaving the Suez Canal, and it serves the cities of the south and centre. Ambarli in Istanbul for the north-west, Izmir for the west, and Iskenderun for Hatay and its surroundings.
Is there land freight from Mecca to Turkey?
It is not a route we work with. The Kingdom and Turkey are not neighbours, so a truck gets there only after crossing more than one country, and the transit procedures on the way never stay the same. That is why group luggage, furniture, goods and cars go by sea, and whatever is urgent goes by air.
Do my used household goods enter Turkey duty-free?
It enters exempt when four conditions are met under current practice: you are moving there to live and hold a work or residence permit; you present a title deed or a notarised tenancy contract running for one year; a detailed inventory accompanies the shipment; and you attend the clearance yourself. Before we ship, we check for you which of them are in force.
Does the consignee pay customs on a parcel or a suitcase?
Every shipment entering Turkey is cleared on a customs declaration whatever its value, and the word “gift” does not exempt it. Used personal effects have their own treatment, on conditions. We review your case with our broker before shipping and tell the consignee what is due before it arrives.
What must not go into parcels and suitcases to Turkey?
Mobile phones, cosmetics, perfumes and food supplements are not delivered to individuals by post or express. Zamzam water is not shipped. Medicines only on prescription and in a personal quantity. Cash, gold and passports stay with you.
Do you ship cars from Mecca to Turkey?
Yes, and the journey begins on a car carrier from Makkah as far as Jeddah port. There you choose: a RoRo vessel, whose fare for a saloon starts from SAR 2,800 from the port, or a 20ft container, priced from SAR 4,600. In both cases the destination is Mersin.
Can I register my Saudi car in Turkey?
Do not count on it. The restrictions on permanently importing a used car are severe, so registering it on a Turkish plate is not available in most cases. What works in practice is for it to enter temporarily on its Saudi plate, and how long it stays depends on its owner’s status.
What payment methods are available?
Bank transfer or electronic payment. We agree the instalments before loading, and you receive a receipt for every amount. Turkish duties and taxes are paid by the consignee there, directly at clearance.
Do the Hajj season and Ramadan affect shipping?
It is affected in two ways. Inside Makkah the hours open to trucks narrow in Ramadan and during Hajj, and once Hajj ends, demand for shipping to Turkey crowds in. The safest course is to book a fortnight ahead of the season. For those who have not, we load within whatever hours are allowed, or hold the shipment in the warehouse until the season has passed.
Do you ship from Turkey to Mecca?
Yes, the line runs in reverse as well. Collection is from Bursa, Istanbul and other cities, and arrival is at Jeddah: its port for what sails from Ambarli or Mersin, its airport for what flies. From Jeddah the shipment carries on to Makkah and is handed over when trucks are allowed in.
