Route and transit time for moving furniture from Riyadh to Syria
The route is by road throughout. The truck heads north from Riyadh to the Al Haditha crossing near Qurayyat, enters Jordan at the Al Omari crossing, crosses it to the Jaber crossing, then enters Syria at the Nassib crossing in Daraa and continues to Damascus and the other cities.

Syrian customs and returnees’ furniture
Most people moving furniture on this route are Syrians returning home after years in the Kingdom. This is what matters to them:
- The exemption: in 2025 Syria’s General Authority for Land and Sea Border Crossings announced that returnees are exempt from any charges on their belongings and home furniture, and later denied reports that charges would be imposed on it.
- Used, not new: the exemption is for used household furniture. New appliances in their boxes and in quantity are treated as goods.
- The contents list: numbered for each box, and what is checked against at the crossing.
- Proof of return: evidence of your previous residence in the Kingdom and your final departure.
Note: procedures at Syrian crossings have changed more than once in the last two years. We confirm those in force in the week of your shipment, before the truck moves.
Dismantling and packing the furniture at your home in Riyadh
The road is 1,700 km with two crossings and unloading for inspection where needed, so the packing here is tougher than for a move within a city.
- Wardrobes and beds: dismantled, with their screws gathered in a bag taped to the piece itself.
- Sofas and mattresses: a blanket, then clear film that keeps out dust and damp.
- Glass, mirrors and screens: foam and reinforced cardboard, and a wooden crate for the valuable.
- Electrical appliances: emptied and dried, with their moving parts secured.
- Cartons: numbered, each marked with its contents and the room it belongs to.

Loading and inventory before the truck leaves
- Heavy at the bottom: the washing machine, fridge and wardrobes first, with light cartons on top.
- Interior lashing: straps that prevent movement on the long road.
- The written inventory: the number of pieces and boxes with their numbers, which you sign and keep a copy of.
- Photos before closing: of the loaded truck, and of valuable pieces individually.
The crossings and the documents required
The truck passes four points: the Saudi Al Haditha, the Jordanian Al Omari, then the Jordanian Jaber and the Syrian Nassib. It crosses Jordan in transit on a transit document, and is not cleared there.
- Passport and Saudi residence permit, or proof that it has ended.
- A numbered contents list in Arabic, matching the boxes.
- Proof of previous residence in the Kingdom: a tenancy contract, an employment letter or the final exit visa.
- Consignee details in Syria: name, address and a Syrian mobile number.
- An authorisation if the consignee is not the furniture’s owner.

What is not shipped with furniture
- Prohibited: flammable materials, filled gas cylinders, weapons and ammunition.
- Carried by hand: cash, gold, jewellery and official papers. Do not put them in the truck.
- Needing a permit: medicines in quantity, radio communication devices and drones.
- Treated as goods: new appliances in quantity, and goods for sale. These go by commercial shipping.
- Foodstuffs: personal-use quantities only, and nothing perishable.
