Who ships from Jeddah to Iraq?
Jeddah is not the Saudi city nearest to Iraq, but it is the Kingdom’s first port. So much of what is shipped from it to Iraq is cargo that arrived by sea at Jeddah port and continues by land, or the output of factories in the western region. Alongside the traders are Iraqis living in Jeddah and Makkah who send to their families, or return.
| Who | What they ship | Best method |
|---|---|---|
| A factory or supplier | Food, plastics, building materials and chemicals | Full truck |
| A trader with small quantities | Pallets and cartons | Shared load by the kilo or the cubic metre |
| An online store | Parcels for customers in Iraq | A regular shared load, or air |
| A returning Iraqi | Household furniture and belongings | A truck or a shared load |
| Someone sending to family | Parcels, gifts and appliances | Shared load, with urgent items by air |
Route and transit time for shipping from Jeddah to Iraq
The road runs north from Jeddah through Madinah and Hail to Arar, then the Jadidat Arar crossing, and from there to Karbala and Baghdad. It is the longest of the Kingdom’s lanes to Iraq: a truck from Riyadh covers about a thousand kilometres to the crossing, and one from Jeddah covers 1,350. So transit from Jeddah runs a day longer than from Riyadh.
| Leg | Approximate distance | What happens on it |
|---|---|---|
| Jeddah to the Jadidat Arar crossing | About 1,350 km | Two days of driving, then export clearance |
| The crossing to Karbala | About 520 km | Iraqi clearance, then a day of driving |
| The crossing to Baghdad | About 620 km | Through Karbala, on the day of arrival or the next |
| Method | Transit | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Full truck | 5 – 8 days | Commercial goods and a whole home’s furniture |
| Shared load | 8 – 14 days | A few pallets and cartons |
| Air to Baghdad or Erbil | 2 – 5 days | Urgent items and parcels |
What lengthens the transit?
- The queue at the crossing: it grows in the pilgrimage seasons and the holidays.
- An unattested document: the truck stops until it is put right. We check it before departure.
- The swap in the exchange yard: moving the load to an Iraqi truck takes half a day to a day.
- Inspection: samples are sometimes drawn from food and appliances.
- The delivery city: Basra, Mosul and Erbil add one to two days.
Cost of shipping from Jeddah to Iraq
At Home Safe the price is calculated by the truck for a full load, by the kilogram or cubic metre for a shared load, and by the kilogram for air. Prices start as shown in the table, and the final price follows once we know your shipment: send its type, its volume or weight and the delivery city to 0552803439, and you will have it the same day.
| What you ship | Method | Price starts from |
|---|---|---|
| Goods and cartons | Consolidated land freight | SAR 14 a kilogram |
| A parcel or gift | Consolidated land freight | SAR 275 a parcel |
| A room of furniture | Shared load | SAR 2,300 |
| A car | Closed truck or car carrier | SAR 3,200 |
| Urgent parcels and samples | Air | SAR 41 a kilogram |
| A full truck | Light truck, rigid truck or trailer | Priced by its size and the delivery city |
What sets the price?
| What sets the price | Its effect |
|---|---|
| Truck size | Light truck, rigid truck or trailer, according to the load |
| Full or shared | Shared is cheaper and slower |
| Delivery city | Karbala and Baghdad are nearest, Basra and Erbil further |
| Type of goods | Anything that needs inspection or refrigeration costs more |
| Handling at the crossing | A separate item when goods are moved to an Iraqi truck |
| Weight or volume | Heavy goods are charged by the kilo, light bulky ones by the cubic metre |
To work out your shipment’s volume, use the CBM calculator.
The fastest, or the cheapest?
| Comparison | Full truck | Shared load | Air |
|---|---|---|---|
| Transit | 5 – 8 days | 8 – 14 days | 2 – 5 days |
| Cost | You pay for the whole truck | You pay for your goods only | The highest per kilo |
| Date | On the day you choose | When the truck is full | The first flight |
| Best for | 10 tonnes and over, or a whole home | Up to a few tonnes | Under 100 kg and urgent items |
Loading in Jeddah and packing for the road

A shipment to Iraq is handled more than most: loading in Jeddah, perhaps a change of truck at the crossing, then unloading and distribution. So the packing is prepared for three handlings, not one.
- Pallets: goods on wrapped pallets are easier to handle, and safer.
- Packing: sturdier than usual, because the shipment may be moved between two trucks at the crossing.
- Labels: the consignee’s name, city and package number on every pallet and carton.
- Furniture: dismantled, wrapped in blankets and stretch film, and numbered.
- Heat: the road is desert, so anything affected by heat travels refrigerated or by night.
- Inventory: a signed list before the truck is closed, and photos of the load.
We collect from factories and warehouses in the industrial area and Al Khumrah, directly from Jeddah Islamic Port for cargo that arrives by sea, and from homes in every district. The packing method is on the packing guide page.
The Jadidat Arar crossing and the documents required

Jadidat Arar is the direct land crossing between the Kingdom and Iraq, and reopened for trade in 2020. In some cases goods are moved in its exchange yard from the Saudi truck to an Iraqi one that completes the journey.
| Document | Note |
|---|---|
| Commercial invoice | Attested by the chamber of commerce, and at the true value |
| Certificate of origin | Attested, and required as an original |
| Packing list | Number of packages and their weight |
| Export declaration | Issued by the clearing agent in the Kingdom under an electronic authorisation from the exporter |
| Import licence | Held by the Iraqi importer, for many goods |
| Conformity certificate | For products subject to pre-shipment inspection, from an approved body |
| Special certificates | Health certificates for food, and whatever the product requires |
Note: the conformity certificate is obtained before the goods are loaded, not at the crossing. Goods that arrive without it are held or sent back.
The paperwork is explained on the required documents page.
Shipping commercial goods to Iraq
Iraq is one of the Kingdom’s largest overland export markets, and what is shipped to it most from the western region is food and beverages, plastics and packaging materials, building materials, detergents and office furniture.
- Full loads: a flatbed, sided or box trailer, according to the goods.
- Refrigerated: reefer trucks for food and dairy, with a temperature record.
- The Arab exemption: goods of Saudi origin benefit from the Greater Arab Free Trade Area with a correct certificate of origin.
- Regular runs: a regular supplier has a fixed shipping schedule and an agreed price.
- Store orders: their parcels are grouped and move with the regular shared load.
The details are on the commercial shipping page.
Shipping furniture and personal belongings to Iraq
- The returning Iraqi: has an exemption on used furniture and belongings, on conditions tied to the length of residence abroad. We review them before shipping.
- Price: a room of furniture in a shared load starts from SAR 2,300.
- The contents list: itemised for every carton and piece.
- Appliances: Iraq’s electricity is 220 – 230 volts like the Kingdom’s, so all your appliances work there.
- New appliances in quantity: treated as merchandise.
- What is carried by hand: cash, gold and official papers.
We dismantle, pack and number at your home in Jeddah, and unload and assemble at your home there. The details are on the furniture shipping page.
Shipping parcels, gifts and store orders
Anyone sending a parcel to family in Najaf, Karbala or Baghdad does not need a truck. Parcels are grouped in the shared load that runs regularly, or go by air if they are urgent.
- Price: a parcel starts from SAR 275 by land, and anything above it from SAR 14 a kilogram.
- What is sent: clothes, gifts, household items and small appliances.
- Food: tinned and dry with valid shelf life, and nothing perishable.
- The declaration: a description and count for each item.
- The consignee: the name as on their ID, and an Iraqi mobile number that is answered.
The details are on the parcel shipping page.
Shipping cars from Saudi Arabia to Iraq
Since the start of 2026 Iraq has tightened its car import rules: a limit on the year of manufacture, a ban on cars damaged by accident, flood or fire, and approved technical and environmental specifications. These rules have changed more than once. So we do not book a car before confirming that it is accepted under the rules in force in the week of the request.
- What you send: the make of the car, its year of manufacture and a copy of its registration.
- Transport: inside a closed truck or on a car carrier, starting from SAR 3,200.
- Export: its plates are cancelled and an export certificate is issued before it moves.
Send the details to 0552803439; the shipping methods are on the car shipping page.
Delivery in Baghdad and Iraqi cities

| City | Route | Added to the transit |
|---|---|---|
| Karbala and Najaf | Directly from Arar | The nearest after the crossing |
| Baghdad | From Arar through Karbala | On the day of arrival or the next |
| Hillah, Kut and Nasiriyah | South from Karbala or Baghdad | A day |
| Basra | South from Baghdad, or through Kuwait | One to two days |
| Mosul and Kirkuk | North from Baghdad | One to two days |
| Erbil, Sulaymaniyah and Duhok | From Baghdad, or by air to Erbil | One to two days, plus the Region’s procedures |
The Kurdistan Region has its own customs procedures, so we set the route by city before booking. Commercial goods are delivered to the importer’s warehouse or shop, and furniture is carried into the home. The destination details are on the shipping to Iraq page.
Air freight from Jeddah to Iraq

Air freight from King Abdulaziz Airport to the airports of Baghdad, Erbil, Najaf and Basra delivers the shipment in 2 to 5 days. It is the only route from Jeddah that avoids the land crossing and its queue.
- For whom: parcels, documents, samples and urgent spare parts.
- Erbil: air goes there directly, so it avoids the Baghdad road and the Region’s land procedures.
- Pricing: by chargeable weight. Work it out with the volumetric weight calculator.
- Price: from SAR 41 a kilogram, falling as the weight rises.
- Restrictions: batteries, perfumes and liquids on the carrier’s conditions.
Its details are in the article on the air freight office in Jeddah.
What cannot be shipped to Iraq, or needs a permit
| Item | Status |
|---|---|
| Unauthorised dangerous goods, and counterfeits | Prohibited |
| Medicines and medical supplies | With a permit, or personal quantities with a prescription |
| Wireless devices and drones | With a permit |
| Chemicals and wet batteries | With a permit and special packing |
| Food | With a health certificate and enough shelf life, and some items are banned from import seasonally to protect local produce |
| Used goods | Some do not enter commercially |
| Cash and gold | Carried by hand and declared |
Send a description of your goods before booking. The general list is on the prohibited items page.
Storage before shipping
Not every shipment is ready in a single day. A trader gathers goods from several suppliers, and a returnee hands back their home before the home there is ready. So we collect and store at our warehouse in Jeddah until the shipment is complete or its date arrives, and it then moves in one go. Its details are on the storage page.
Steps for shipping from Jeddah to Iraq
- You send the shipment details and the delivery city.
- We review the documents and the conformity certificate if needed.
- You receive the price with the method and transit time.
- Collection, loading and inventory in Jeddah.
- The road to Arar and export clearance.
- The crossing and Iraqi clearance.
- Delivery to the address.
Insurance and follow-up
- Insurance: optional, a percentage of the shipment’s value. We recommend it here: the road is long, and the handling repeated.
- Photos: of the load before it is closed, and at the swap in the crossing yard.
- Follow-up: a message at departure, at the crossing, after Iraqi clearance, and before delivery.
- The Home Safe guarantee: furniture is kept from breakage and scratches while in our hands.
The details are on the cargo insurance page.
Shipping from Iraq to Saudi Arabia
The lane works in both directions. We collect from Baghdad, Karbala, Najaf and Basra through our agent there, clear at the Jadidat Arar crossing, and deliver in Jeddah or any city in the Kingdom. Umrah pilgrims and visitors send their excess belongings the same way. Ask for the price on 0552803439 with the Iraqi city and the size of the shipment.
How to choose a shipping company for Iraq
| Criterion | What to ask for | Warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| Legal standing | A commercial registration and a known address | A mobile number with no establishment behind it |
| Documents | They review them before loading | “We’ll sort them out at the crossing” |
| Scope of the price | To the delivery city, with handling stated | “To Arar only” |
| The agent in Iraq | Their name and number in your city | “The driver will call you” |
| Inventory | A signed list and photos | Loading without a single sheet of paper |
Common mistakes when shipping to Iraq
- Unattested documents: the truck stops at the crossing.
- Shipping before the conformity certificate.
- Weak packing for goods that will be handled twice.
- Overlooking the import licence: it is the importer’s, so make sure of it before the invoice.
- Shipping to Erbil by the Baghdad route without asking about the Region’s procedures.
- An understated value on the invoice: a fine and a revaluation.
- Buying a car for export before confirming that Iraq accepts it.
- A non-Iraqi mobile number for the consignee: it delays delivery.
