Who asks for air freight from Riyadh to Turkey?
Between Riyadh and the Turkish cities there is a daily flow of travellers, students and traders, and with it a flow of small shipments that cannot wait for a ship. Most of those who call us are one of six: a family with a son studying there, the owner of a summer flat, a trader whose customer is waiting for a sample, or a Turkish resident of Riyadh sending to his family. Each of them has a different shipment and different paperwork.
| Sender | Usual shipment | What pushes it onto the aircraft |
|---|---|---|
| A Saudi family with a student in Istanbul or Ankara | Winter clothes, books and personal belongings | The term starts on a known date |
| The owner of a house or flat in Bursa, Yalova or Trabzon | Light household items before the summer season | He wants them there before the family arrives |
| A Turkish resident working in Riyadh | Gifts, dates and clothes for his family | An Eid, a wedding or a newborn |
| An Arab resident of Turkey with family in Riyadh | Belongings he left behind and identity papers | A residence or study application with a deadline |
| A company or factory in Riyadh | Samples, catalogues and signed contracts | A Turkish buyer who decides after seeing the sample |
| A workshop or contractor | A spare part going back for repair or replacement | A machine standing idle |
What is air freight, and why is it chosen on the Riyadh – Turkey route?
Air freight is the carriage of goods and parcels in the holds of passenger aircraft or on dedicated freighters, by booking space that is sold by the kilogram. It is the fastest means of international transport and the most expensive per kilogram. Its real value is that it turns a journey of weeks at sea into a handful of days, on a departure schedule known in advance.
On this route there is a further reason. Riyadh is an inland city with no port, so a container bound for Turkey first covers about 950 kilometres by road to the port of Jeddah before it sails. An air shipment leaves from the capital’s own airport and lands in Istanbul after about four hours of flying. The gap in time between the two methods is therefore wider here than in the coastal cities.
- Time: days instead of weeks, which settles the decision for anything urgent.
- Handling: fewer loading and unloading stages, so less breakage of fragile items.
- Regularity: frequent flights through the week, so a shipment does not wait for a distant sailing date.
- Reaching the market: an exporter in Riyadh puts his sample in front of the Turkish buyer in the same week.
- The limit: it is not for furniture, heavy or bulky items, nor for what aviation safety rules forbid.
You will find the general description of the service on the air freight page.
Services of the air freight company from Riyadh to Turkey
The service is not just booking space on an aircraft. A shipment passes through seven links between your door and the consignee’s, and each link can stall if it is left with nobody following it. So we offer it as one continuous service with one person responsible, and you can take only the parts you need if you have a broker or carrier in Turkey.
- Collection from the address: from the home, office or warehouse in any district of Riyadh.
- Packing and wrapping: cartons, padding and strapping suited to airport handling.
- Content review: sorting out what is not accepted by air and what Turkish customs will not release.
- Preparation at the airport: weighing, measuring, security screening, export declaration and air waybill.
- Flight booking: direct or through a transit airport, according to the date and the weight.
- Clearance in Turkey: lodging the customs declaration and following the release.
- Delivery: to the address in the Turkish city, against the consignee’s signature.
The shipment’s route and the air freight time from Riyadh to Turkey
Direct flights operate between Riyadh and Istanbul, to Istanbul Airport on the European side and to Sabiha Gokcen Airport on the Asian side, according to the flight schedule in force each season. The flight itself is about four hours, but a shipment’s time is not counted in flying hours. What takes time is what comes before take-off and after landing, and this is the breakdown.
| Stage | Where | Usual time |
|---|---|---|
| Collection and packing | Your address in Riyadh | The day of the request or the day after |
| Acceptance, weighing, screening and export declaration | King Khalid Airport cargo village | Half a day to a day |
| The flight | Riyadh → Istanbul | About 4 hours direct, longer through a transit airport |
| Unloading, customs declaration and release | The cargo warehouses at the Turkish airport | One to two days |
| Delivery | Within Istanbul or to another city | The same day to two days |
The door-to-door result: 2–4 working days to Istanbul, 3–5 days to Ankara, Izmir and Bursa, and 4–6 days to the more distant cities to the east and north. The table of times for all destinations is on the transit times page.
What lengthens the time?
- The consignee’s identity number is missing: the Turkish declaration cannot be lodged without it, so the shipment stays overnight in the warehouse.
- An item that is not released: a phone or perfume among the clothes holds the whole parcel, not the item alone.
- A value the inspector does not believe: he asks for an invoice or proof of price, and the parcel waits until it arrives.
- Peak seasons: summer, the two Eids and the start of the academic year crowd the space on flights.
- Turkish holidays: public holidays there delay customs release by days.
Acceptance and preparation of the shipment at the King Khalid International Airport cargo village
The cargo village is a separate zone at King Khalid International Airport north of Riyadh, with an area of about 275,000 square metres, holding the ground-handling stations, the facilities of the express companies and customs on one site. This means a shipment is accepted, weighed, screened and cleared for export without leaving the place. Our agent enters it with the shipment at a time ahead of the flight’s cut-off, and you do not attend.

| Procedure | How it is done | Why it matters to you |
|---|---|---|
| Receipt at the acceptance station | The parcels are unloaded and matched against the shipment list | The piece count is fixed from the first moment |
| Weighing | The station’s certified scale, for each piece and for the total | It is the figure the charge is based on |
| Measuring the dimensions | Length, width and height of every piece | The volumetric weight comes from it |
| Numbering | A label on every piece with the waybill number, piece count and destination | No piece is lost from a multi-parcel shipment |
| Security screening before loading | X-ray machines, and opening by hand when in doubt | A restricted item is found here, not in Turkey |
| Export declaration | Registered electronically with Saudi customs | A condition for any shipment leaving the Kingdom |
| Loading | The parcels are built onto an air pallet or into a hold container | It fixes the actual flight date |
We send you a photo of the weight slip as soon as it is issued. If the figure differs from our estimate at collection, you know the reason before you pay: a carton that was repacked and grew, or a piece that was added. And if a parcel fails security screening, we take out the rejected item with your knowledge and present it again for the same flight if time remains.
How is chargeable weight calculated on this route?
An aircraft fills up by volume before it fills up by weight, so the scale alone is not enough to price a shipment. A figure called volumetric weight is worked out for each piece, equal to length × width × height in centimetres ÷ 6000. The larger of that and the scale weight is then taken, and this is the chargeable weight. You will find the sum ready-made in the volumetric weight calculator.
| Example from Riyadh shipments | Scale weight | Volumetric weight | Chargeable weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| Carton of dates, 40 × 30 × 25 cm | 16 kg | 5 kg | 16 kg |
| Carton of coats and blankets, 70 × 50 × 50 cm | 14 kg | 29.2 kg | 29.2 kg |
| Student’s suitcase, 80 × 50 × 30 cm | 25 kg | 20 kg | 25 kg |
| Box of metal samples, 50 × 40 × 30 cm | 32 kg | 10 kg | 32 kg |
| Pallet of cartons, 120 × 100 × 120 cm | 180 kg | 240 kg | 240 kg |
Look at the second row: the carton of coats weighs 14 kilograms and is charged at more than double that. Had the coats been compressed in vacuum bags and put in a smaller carton, the figure would have come down close to the actual weight. That is the first thing our packing team does when it sees a bulky shipment.
Air freight prices from Riyadh to Turkey
The charge follows three things: the chargeable weight, the type of service and the Turkish city. The table shows starting prices as far as Istanbul. We send the final figure once we know the measurements and contents, and it is a freight charge that does not include Turkish duties and taxes.
| Type of shipment | Price |
|---|---|
| Document envelope up to one kilogram | Starts from SAR 83 |
| Parcel up to 5 kilograms | Starts from SAR 110 |
| Parcel from 5 to 20 kilograms | Starts from SAR 200 |
| Shipment weighing 50 kilograms | Starts from SAR 1,100 |
| Large weights, 300 kilograms and above | Starts from SAR 17 per kilogram |
| Inland delivery to Ankara, Izmir and Bursa | Set on request |
| Refrigerated or declared dangerous goods | Set on request |
| A car on a cargo aircraft | Set on request |
Send the shipment’s weight, measurements, contents and the name of the Turkish city to 0552803439, and the price comes back to you the same day, broken down into its items.
Prices circulating in the market: we found no office that publishes a tariff for the Riyadh – Turkey air route specifically, and the original article on this page quoted no figure. What is available is general guides: a guide to air freight companies in the Kingdom puts the international kilogram between 4 and 8 dollars, roughly SAR 15 to 30. A guide to shipping between Turkey and the Kingdom says the air kilogram starts from two dollars for commercial quantities, and that the express networks take between SAR 70 and 100 for the first kilogram. Our prices in the table fall within these ranges or below them.
| Factor | How it changes the price |
|---|---|
| Weight band | The price per kilogram drops at 45, 100, 300 and 500 kilograms |
| Volume | A bulky shipment is charged by its size, not its weight |
| Service level | Express costs more than economy, and delivery to the door more than delivery at the airport |
| The Turkish city | Istanbul is the cheapest destination; the others add inland transport |
| Season | The tourist summer and the Eid days push up the charge for space |
| Nature of the goods | Valuable, fragile and refrigerated items have paid handling |
| The carrier’s variable items | The fuel and security surcharges change, and we show them in the price |
How do you reduce the cost?
- Compress clothes and light furnishings in vacuum bags before putting them in the carton.
- Gather what you will send this month into one shipment; the higher weight band is cheaper per kilogram.
- Ask for the economy service if your date has two days of slack.
- Take out of the shipment what Turkey forbids; a returned parcel costs the fare both ways.
- Move anything above a few hundred kilograms to the sea if it is not urgent.
For more on what makes up the price, see the pricing factors page.
Shipping parcels and luggage by air from Riyadh for residents in Turkey
Turkey has many residents with homes and family in Riyadh: students, families who moved for work, and households that spend half the year there. What they need from Riyadh does not fit in one suitcase. We collect the parcel or suitcase from the family home, pack it in a way that suits air freight, and deliver it to the residence in Turkey in the resident’s name and residence number.

| Shipment | Typical weight | Suitable service | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small parcel: prescribed medicine, papers, a garment | Up to 5 kg | Express to the door | Starts from SAR 110 |
| Carton of gifts and dates | 5–20 kg | Express or economy | Starts from SAR 200 |
| Two or three suitcases for a student | About 50 kg | General air freight to the door | Starts from SAR 1,100 |
| A family’s luggage ahead of its furniture by sea | 100–300 kg | General air freight booked in advance | Set on request |
Two rules govern a personal parcel in Turkey. The first is that, in practice, its weight should not exceed 30 kilograms, and anything above that falls under the rules for commercial shipments. The second is that the consignee is identified by a number: the Turkish identity number for a citizen, and the foreigner number written on the residence card for anyone else. So we divide a large amount of luggage into medium-sized parcels when that is easier. The service in general is covered on the parcel shipping page.
Gifts, dates, clothes and documents: what leaves Riyadh every day
Four kinds of item recur in individuals’ shipments on this route, and each has something worth knowing before the carton is closed. Dates are food, new clothes are goods in the inspector’s eyes, a gift is not exempt, and an official paper has a faster route than anything else.
- Dates: sent in family quantities in the producer’s sealed boxes, showing the weight and country of origin. Sukkari, Khalas and Ajwa are the most requested.
- Clothes: used ones are entered in the declaration as used. New ones with their tags are assessed at their value, so keep the invoice.
- Gifts: charged at their value like any other parcel, so write the true value and tell the consignee.
- Coffee, cardamom and spices: in personal quantities and in tight containers.
- Documents: attested certificates, powers of attorney and employment and property contracts travel in an express envelope starting from SAR 83, and have no commercial value.
- Zamzam water: not shipped within consignments.
We advise against mixing food with clothes in one carton. A parcel holding one kind of item is inspected faster, and if one item is stopped nothing else is held up with it.
Air freight for commercial goods and samples from Riyadh to Turkey
A trader or factory in Riyadh mostly ships two things to Turkey: a sample that goes ahead of the deal, and light, high-value goods that cannot spend a month on the way. These are shipments for which space is booked in the company’s name on a particular flight, built onto pallets, and preceded by the preparation of their documents. A mistake in a single paper here costs more than the air fare.

| Commercial shipment | How it is prepared | Documents it needs |
|---|---|---|
| Samples of no sale value | A tight parcel marked as a sample with an exact description | A sample invoice at its actual value |
| Goods on pallets | Stacked, stretch-wrapped and strapped, at a height that suits the hold door | Commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin |
| Spare parts and light equipment | A wooden crate or reinforced carton with internal bracing | Invoice, part number and tariff heading |
| Dates and Saudi food products | Export cartons labelled with the contents and expiry date | Health certificate and certificate of origin, and a registered Turkish importer |
| Exhibition or conference materials | Crates numbered by stand | A detailed list, and temporary admission arranged where available |
The Turkish importer is the one in whose name the declaration is lodged, so check his tax number before booking, and agree the delivery terms with him: who pays the air fare, and who pays the duty and tax in Turkey. Write that in the invoice in one clear phrase. We review the invoice and packing list and match them against what is on the pallet before it enters the airport. What concerns companies is on the commercial shipping page.
Are heavy, fragile and sensitive shipments accepted by air?
Yes, within the limits of the aircraft. A heavy piece is accepted when it passes through the hold door and the floor can bear it, a fragile one when it is packed to withstand stacking, and a temperature-sensitive one by special booking. What matters is that we know the nature of the shipment before booking, not at the station door.
- Heavy: a piece above a certain weight needs a wooden base and a forklift, and we ask you for the weight of each single piece.
- Long and wide: the dimensions of the hold door limit what is loaded on passenger aircraft; anything larger goes on a freighter.
- Fragile: glass, ceramics and measuring instruments, in a double carton with cut foam and orientation marks.
- Valuable: a declared value and insurance, and delivery against proof of identity.
- Refrigerated: insulated packaging and chilled space at both airports, priced on request.
Documents required for air freight from Riyadh to Turkey
The papers are split between two parties: a sender in Riyadh who proves his identity and describes his shipment, and a consignee in Turkey who proves that he exists and is identified to customs. We issue the air waybill and the export declaration ourselves. The more complete the papers are before collection, the shorter the time.
| Shipment | From the sender | From the consignee |
|---|---|---|
| Document envelope | Copy of the national identity card or residence permit | Name, address and a Turkish mobile number |
| Personal parcel | Identity, and a list of contents with the value of each item | Turkish identity number or foreigner number, and mobile |
| Luggage of a student or resident | Copy of the passport and a list of contents | Copy of the residence card or the enrolment document |
| Personal medicines | A medical prescription in the consignee’s name | A copy of the prescription on request |
| Commercial goods | Commercial registration, invoice, packing list and certificate of origin | The importer’s tax number and any licences the goods require |
Write the contents item by item: “three abayas, two kilograms of dates, two books”. A general phrase such as “personal effects” invites the parcel to be opened. Each paper is explained on the shipping documents page.
Turkish customs and the cost of customs formalities
The air fare is one thing, and what Turkish customs take is another, paid there. The practice in Turkey is that a parcel arriving from abroad does not go through a simplified procedure, so every shipment has a full customs declaration whatever its value. These rules change, so we check what is in force with our broker in Istanbul before we collect from you.
| Item | Current practice |
|---|---|
| Documents and papers | No commercial value, and they pass without duty |
| Personal parcel and gift | Full declaration, customs duty according to the item, and value added tax |
| Value added tax | The general rate is 20%, with other rates for some items |
| Special consumption tax | Added on specific items such as some electronics |
| Prescribed medicines | In a personal quantity with a prescription, and treated at a flat rate under current practice |
| Belongings of someone moving to live there | Exempt on conditions: a residence or work permit, a housing contract, and a set window around the date of entry |
| Commercial goods | Duty according to the tariff heading and country of origin, then the tax, in the importer’s name |
| Broker’s fee and storage | A fee for lodging the declaration, and a warehouse charge if collection is late |
Our practical advice: call the consignee before you send, and tell him there is an amount to pay at clearance. A parcel refused by its owner stays in the airport warehouse while storage charges build up on it, and is then returned at the sender’s expense. What happens at the entry points is explained on the customs clearance page.
What is not shipped by air from Riyadh to Turkey
The list here is two overlapping lists. The first is what aviation safety forbids on any flight, and the second is what Turkey does not release to individuals if it arrives in a parcel. The second is the one that surprises senders, because its items look ordinary: a phone, a cream, or a box of vitamins.
| Item | Ruling on this route |
|---|---|
| Mobile phones | Not released to individuals if they enter by post or express courier |
| Perfumes, oud oil, cosmetics and skincare | Not accepted in individuals’ parcels, and commercially with health permits |
| Food supplements and sports nutrition | Not accepted in parcels without a prescription |
| Electronic cigarettes and their liquids | Prohibited |
| Plants, seeds and seedlings | Prohibited in personal parcels |
| Meat and meat products | Prohibited in individuals’ shipments |
| Lithium batteries | Inside the device only and with a label; loose ones and power banks are not loaded on passenger aircraft |
| Flammable liquids, aerosol cans and lighters | Dangerous goods, not allowed in an ordinary parcel |
| Cash, gold and jewellery | Not accepted for shipping |
| Radio devices and drones | Restricted, and we ask about them before acceptance |
Show us whatever you are unsure of before you put it in the carton. An answer before packing costs you nothing, and an answer after the parcel reaches Istanbul costs you the whole shipment. The general list for all destinations is on the prohibited items page.
Delivering air freight in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and Bursa
Istanbul is the gateway for air freight into Turkey, and most of what leaves Riyadh is cleared there. From it the shipments fan out: by lorry to Bursa, about 150 kilometres away, and by a domestic flight or lorry to Ankara and Izmir. Delivery in every case is to the address, not to the airport, unless you ask otherwise.

| City | Arrival airport | Door-to-door time | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Istanbul | Istanbul Airport or Sabiha Gokcen | 2–4 days | State the European or Asian side and the name of the district |
| Ankara | Esenboga, or Istanbul then by road | 3–5 days | The destination for students, official paperwork and embassies |
| Izmir | Adnan Menderes, or Istanbul then by road | 3–5 days | And onwards to Manisa, Aydin and the Aegean cities |
| Bursa | Istanbul then by lorry | 3–5 days | Together with Yalova, Inegol and Gemlik |
| Antalya and Alanya | Antalya, or Istanbul then a domestic flight | 3–5 days | Demand for them rises in summer |
| Trabzon, Rize and Samsun | Istanbul then a domestic flight | 4–6 days | The destination of summer-house owners on the Black Sea |
| Gaziantep, Adana, Mersin and Hatay | Istanbul then by air or road | 4–6 days | The destinations furthest from Istanbul |
A Turkish address is written in its own order: the neighbourhood, then the street, building number and flat number, then the district and city. The courier calls the Turkish mobile number before arriving, and if nobody answers he returns on another day. Anyone with a broker can collect from the airport warehouse and save the delivery charge. Information on the destination is on the shipping to Turkey page.
Air or sea from Riyadh to Turkey? And where do cars fit?
We do not rely on a land route to Turkey, so the choice is between the aircraft and the ship. And the ship here is further from Riyadh than from other cities: the container is first moved to Jeddah Islamic Port and then sails to Mersin or Istanbul. So it is far cheaper per kilogram and far longer in time. The decision follows the weight and the date.
| Point of comparison | Air freight | Sea freight |
|---|---|---|
| Departure point | King Khalid Airport in Riyadh | Jeddah Islamic Port after a road leg |
| Door-to-door time | 2–5 days | 18–28 days to Mersin in a full container |
| Unit of charge | The kilogram | The cubic metre or the container |
| Suited to | Anything under 300 kilograms, and everything urgent | Furniture, appliances, cars and heavy goods |
| Starting price | SAR 17 per kilogram for large weights | SAR 415 per cubic metre, and SAR 4,600 for a 20ft container from the port |
A car follows the same rule. Moving it by air is available on cargo aircraft for the owner of a luxury, classic or exhibition car, and the price is set on request. An ordinary car is shipped by sea on a RoRo vessel starting from SAR 2,800, as explained in the article on car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Turkey. Anyone moving a whole household should read the article on the shipping company from Riyadh to Turkey, and the comparison of all the methods is on the shipping methods comparison page.
Express or general air freight: which is for your shipment?
Air freight is two services, not one. Express is run by the international parcel networks at an all-in door-to-door price, and it suits the envelope and the small parcel best. General air freight is booked on airline flights by the kilogram from airport to airport, with clearance and delivery added, and it is the cheaper one once the weight grows. We price both services for you when your shipment’s weight falls between them.
| Item | Express | General air freight |
|---|---|---|
| Starts to pay off at | Under roughly 30 kilograms | 45 kilograms and above |
| Clearance in Turkey | Within the network itself | By a broker on our side or the consignee’s |
| Delivery point | The address | The airport warehouse, or the address on request |
| Time to Istanbul | 2–4 days | 3–5 days |
| Example | A contract, a certificate, a box of dates, a small spare part | A student’s luggage, a pallet of samples, a trader’s goods |
Packing that suits air freight
An air parcel travels over belts, scales and forklifts, has others stacked under and over it, and goes through changes of pressure and cold in the hold. The right packing protects it from all of that without inflating its size. Every extra centimetre in the carton enters the volumetric weight and is paid for.
- The carton: new, double-walled, and sized to the contents with no spare room.
- Clothes and furnishings: in vacuum bags that bring their volume down to about half.
- Dates and food: in the original container, then a sealed bag, then the carton.
- Glass and ceramics: each piece wrapped on its own, with padding between, and a carton inside a carton.
- Devices: switched off completely, with their buttons protected and the battery left inside.
- Address label: in Latin letters on two faces, with a copy inside the parcel.
The packing methods for each item are explained on the packing guide page.
Collection from the districts of Riyadh and nearby towns
The airport is in the north of Riyadh, and reaching it from any district mostly takes no more than an hour. So a morning request is collected and enters the cargo village the same day. The nearby governorates are served by a collection run added to the nearest date, and the sender does not need to bring his shipment to the capital.
| Area | Examples | Collection time |
|---|---|---|
| North Riyadh | Al-Malqa, Hittin, Al-Yasmin, An-Narjis, Al-Arid, As-Sahafah | Nearest to the airport, the same day |
| Central Riyadh | Al-Olaya, As-Sulaymaniyah, Al-Malaz, Al-Murabba, Al-Wurud | The same day for a request before noon |
| East Riyadh | Ar-Rawdah, An-Nasim, Al-Yarmuk, Qurtubah, Ar-Rimal | The same day or the next |
| West and south Riyadh | Irqah, Dhahrat Laban, As-Suwaidi, Ash-Shifa, Al-Aziziyah | Mostly the next day |
| Industrial cities and warehouses | Second Industrial City, As-Sulay, Al-Kharj Road | By appointment with the warehouse manager |
| Diriyah, Al-Muzahimiyah and Al-Kharj | From 20 to 80 kilometres from the capital | Within one to two days |
| Qassim, Al-Majmaah and Shaqra | Dates and shipments of families and students | By prior arrangement according to quantity |
The continuous address-to-address service is described on the door to door page, and the rest of our services in the capital in the article on the international shipping company in Riyadh.
Steps of air freight from Riyadh to Turkey
- You write to us on 0552803439: what you are shipping, roughly how much it weighs, and to which Turkish city.
- We ask you about the contents item by item, and rule out what is not accepted by air or not released by Turkey.
- You receive the price with its items and the expected time, and what the consignee should expect to pay there.
- You send the consignee’s details: name, identity or residence number, mobile, and the address in Turkish.
- The agent comes to your address in Riyadh, packs, takes a first weight and hands you the collection receipt.
- The shipment enters the cargo village, where it is weighed, numbered and screened, and you receive the final weight and the waybill number.
- It takes off on the booked flight, and we send its details to the Turkish broker before landing.
- It is released once what is due has been paid and delivered at the address, and we tell you the name of whoever signed for it.
Tracking the shipment, supervising delivery, and insurance
Tracking in air freight is precise, because every movement is recorded against the waybill number: accepted, loaded, departed, landed, declaration lodged, released, out with the courier. And we do not stop at giving you the number. One member of staff follows your shipment from collection to signature, informs you at every movement, and calls the broker if it stands still longer than usual. How the follow-up works is on the shipment tracking page.
At delivery the consignee inspects the parcel in front of the courier. If he sees a carton that is open, wet or crushed, he writes that on the delivery note before signing, and photographs it. A remark written at the moment of receipt is the basis of any claim afterwards.
As for compensation, the airline’s liability is assessed per kilogram and comes nowhere near the value of a watch, a laptop or a costly sample. Anyone who wants the full value covered asks for optional insurance, calculated as a percentage of what he declares and priced on request. Its terms are on the cargo insurance page. And for anyone whose address in Turkey is not ready yet, we keep the shipment with us under the storage terms, and it moves when he asks.
Air freight from Turkey to Riyadh
More comes from Turkey to Riyadh by air than goes there. Shoppers order from Istanbul’s stores, shop owners hurry the season’s stock, and workshops wait for a part from a Turkish factory. We collect from the seller, gather what was bought from more than one place, and fly it to King Khalid Airport in 3–5 days, then clear it and deliver to the address in Riyadh.
- Most requested: clothes and occasion dresses, fabrics and curtains, accessories, kitchenware and spare parts.
- Charges in the Kingdom: customs duty according to the item, and 15% value added tax.
- Conformity: if a merchant’s consignment falls under Saudi technical regulations, its SABER registration has to be completed ahead of the flight.
- Heavy and bulky: furniture, carpets and wholesale furnishings come by sea to Jeddah and then by road to Riyadh.
Speed and reliability: what we promise and what we do not
Reliability in air freight does not mean the fastest figure quoted over the phone. It means that the time we give you is built on the date of a booked flight, and that you hear from us when something changes. We control the collection, preparation, booking and follow-up; we do not control the customs inspector’s decision or the airline’s schedule, and we say so from the start.
- We promise: collection on time, a documented weight, a confirmed booking before payment, and an update at every stage.
- We promise: a review of the contents and papers before entering the airport, which prevents delay more than anything else.
- We do not promise: a fixed delivery day, since Turkish clearance runs longer or shorter according to the shipment.
- We do not promise: exemption from a duty or tax; that is for customs alone.
- Service terms: what concerns amendment and cancellation is stated in the booking confirmation you receive.
How do you choose an air freight company from Riyadh to Turkey?
Riyadh has many offices that accept parcels for Turkey, and most give you a figure in a minute. A good choice does not start from the cheapest figure. Start from six things: reputation, experience of this route in particular, clarity of price, quality of handling, safety of the shipment, and speed of reply when you ask. These are the signs of each.
| Criterion | What reassures you | What should alert you |
|---|---|---|
| Reputation and legal status | A commercial registration, a stamped collection receipt, and past customers you can ask | No address, no receipt, and payment to an individual’s account |
| Experience of the Turkish route | Asks for the consignee’s identity number and warns you about phones and perfume | Does not know that a parcel is cleared on a declaration |
| Price | Visible items: freight, fuel, clearance and delivery | A total figure that rises after weighing |
| Quality of handling | Packs it himself and photographs the shipment before sealing | Takes the carton as it is without a look |
| Safety | Offers insurance and explains the limit of the carrier’s liability | “Your shipment is guaranteed” with no paper |
| Customer service | A named member of staff who answers and follows up | A number that stops answering after payment |
Common mistakes in air freight to Turkey
- Slipping a new phone among the clothes in the hope that the X-ray will miss it.
- Relying on the word “gift” to avoid Turkish charges.
- Sending the parcel in the name of someone who holds neither a Turkish identity card nor a valid residence permit.
- Writing the address in Arabic, or without the neighbourhood and district.
- Shipping a single carton above 30 kilograms to an individual consignee.

- Booking the aircraft for a bedroom set or a fridge when a sea container suits them better.

Frequently asked questions about air freight from Riyadh to Turkey
How much does air freight from Riyadh to Turkey cost?
A document envelope up to one kilogram starts from SAR 83, a parcel up to 5 kg from SAR 110, a parcel between 5 and 20 kg from SAR 200, and a shipment weighing 50 kg from SAR 1,100. Anything of 300 kg or more starts from SAR 17 per kilogram. That is the freight charge to Istanbul; whatever Turkish customs levy is paid there by the consignee.
How long does air freight from Riyadh to Turkey take?
Two to 4 working days to the consignee’s door in Istanbul, 3 to 5 days in Ankara, Izmir and Bursa, and 4 to 6 days in the cities of the east and the Black Sea. The flight itself is about four hours; the rest of the time goes on preparation in Riyadh, clearance in Turkey and inland delivery.
Do I need to go to King Khalid Airport to hand over the shipment?
No. Our agent collects from your home or office in Riyadh, takes the shipment to the airport cargo village and follows its weighing, security screening, export declaration and air waybill. You follow all of it through WhatsApp messages, and the final weight reaches you before you pay.
Are there direct flights from Riyadh to Istanbul?
Yes, direct flights operate between Riyadh and Istanbul, to Istanbul Airport and to Sabiha Gokcen Airport, and their number follows the airlines’ schedule each season. We book the direct flight whenever it has cargo space, and a flight through a transit airport if its date is nearer, and we tell you the routing before booking.
How is the weight of an air shipment to Turkey calculated?
Every parcel is measured and weighed at the airport. We multiply length by width by height in centimetres and divide the result by 6000, which gives the volumetric weight. We then compare it with the scale weight, and the larger of the two is what the charge is based on. So a blanket and a pillow are charged by their size, and a box of dates by its weight.
Does the consignee pay customs on a personal parcel in Turkey?
In most cases, yes. The practice in Turkey is that every parcel arriving from abroad is cleared on a customs declaration and is charged duty and value added tax however small its value, and the word “gift” on the parcel does not exempt it. We confirm what applies to your case before shipping and tell you what the consignee should expect to pay.
Can I send a mobile phone in a parcel to Turkey?
We do not advise it and do not accept it in parcels. Under current practice, a phone that enters Turkey by post or express courier is not released to its owner, even if he offers to pay its charges. The proper route is for the traveller to carry it with him and register it there within the set period.
What is not accepted in air freight from Riyadh to Turkey?
In personal parcels: mobile phones, perfumes and cosmetics, food supplements without a prescription, electronic cigarettes, and plants and seeds. And by air in general: flammable liquids, aerosol cans, loose batteries and power banks. Medicines are accepted with a medical prescription and in a personal treatment quantity.
What details are required about the consignee in Turkey?
His name as written on his identity card or residence permit, the Turkish identity number or the foreigner number printed on the residence card, a working Turkish mobile number, and the address in Turkish: neighbourhood, then street, building and flat number, then district and city. One missing item stops the parcel at airport customs.
Do you ship dates, gifts and clothes to Turkey?
Yes, and they are most of what leaves Riyadh for residents there. Dates are shipped in family quantities in their sealed boxes, and clothes, abayas, unlit incense, coffee and cardamom are shipped once the contents have been reviewed. Commercial quantities of food need a Turkish importer and health certificates.
Does the shipment reach Bursa, Ankara and Izmir or only Istanbul?
It reaches the consignee’s address in all four cities and in others. The shipment usually lands in Istanbul and is cleared there, then continues by lorry to Bursa, and by a domestic flight or lorry to Ankara and Izmir. That is why it takes about a day longer than Istanbul.
What is the maximum weight of a personal parcel sent to Turkey?
The practice is that a personal parcel does not exceed 30 kilograms. Anything above that is treated as a commercial shipment and needs a customs broker and a full declaration. So we divide your luggage into medium-sized parcels when that makes clearance easier, and we tell you before packing.
When is sea freight to Turkey more suitable than air?
When the shipment is furniture, large appliances or goods above 300 to 500 kilograms with no tight date behind it. The container leaves Riyadh for Jeddah Islamic Port and then for Mersin in 18 to 28 days, and a cubic metre in it starts from SAR 415.
Can a car be shipped by air from Riyadh to Turkey?
It is possible on a cargo aircraft, and it is usually requested by owners of luxury, classic and exhibition cars; the price is set on request. An ordinary car travels by sea on a RoRo vessel from Jeddah Islamic Port, starting from SAR 2,800. We put both options in front of you with their figures.
Do you ship by air from Turkey to Riyadh?
Yes. We collect from the shop or supplier in Istanbul, Bursa or elsewhere, gather the purchases into one shipment and fly it to King Khalid Airport in 3 to 5 days. Imports into the Kingdom carry customs duty according to the item and 15% value added tax.
