Who ships from Riyadh to Algeria, and what do they ship?
Riyadh has an Algerian community of doctors, engineers, lecturers and employees, and most of what moves on this line comes out of their homes. Some are going back for good after years of work and take the whole house. Others are staying in the Kingdom and send their family a box every few months. Alongside them are traders who buy in the capital’s wholesale markets and sell in Oran and Setif. Each case has a shipping method of its own:
| Shipper | What they ship | Best method |
|---|---|---|
| An Algerian family returning for good | All the household furniture, appliances and belongings | A 20ft or 40ft container with a change of residence file |
| A single employee or a small family | A room or two and cartons | Sea groupage by the cubic metre |
| A resident sending to family | Dates, clothes, gifts and children’s items | Cartons in a shared container, or air before occasions |
| A student who has finished at a Riyadh university | Books, suitcases and a computer | Groupage by the kilogram, or one shipment with classmates |
| An Algerian trader or a Saudi exporter | Abayas, fabrics, perfumes, dates and housewares | A full container or part of one |
| A company, hotel or clinic | Office furniture, fittings and equipment | A container on a schedule outside working hours |
| Someone with an urgent matter | Documents, prescribed medicine and samples | Air freight |
How does a shipment get from Riyadh to Algeria?

Riyadh sits in the middle of the Arabian Peninsula, Algeria on the southern shore of the Mediterranean, and no border joins them. So the load does not arrive on one truck but on a journey of three links: road inside the Kingdom to the port, sea to an Algerian port, then road inside Algeria to the province. What matters to you is that all three links are run by one party, so the container does not sit in a port yard because a paper was late with someone else.
| Stage | What happens | Usual time |
|---|---|---|
| Collection in Riyadh | Dismantling, packing, numbering, inventory and loading | 1–2 days |
| The road to Jeddah | A closed truck on the Riyadh – Taif – Jeddah road, about 950 km | 1–2 days |
| Export from Jeddah port | Stuffing and sealing the container, the export declaration, and waiting for the vessel | 2–5 days |
| Sailing | Red Sea → Suez Canal → Mediterranean, usually with a change of vessel at a hub port | Two to three weeks |
| Clearance in Algeria | Customs declaration, inspection, and settling duties or the exemption | From days to about two weeks |
| Delivery to the province | A truck from the port to the consignee’s address | 1–4 days |
An urgent shipment skips all of this. It is collected from your home, goes to the cargo village at King Khalid Airport north of the city, and reaches Houari Boumediene Airport after one transit stop.
Why do we ship from Riyadh through Jeddah port and not Dammam?
Everyone who looks at the map asks it: King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam is roughly 400 km from Riyadh and the freight train reaches it from the dry port, so why cover more than twice the distance to Jeddah? The answer is in the vessel’s heading, not the length of the road. Algeria is reached through the Suez Canal, and the canal is reached from the Red Sea. A Jeddah vessel casts off already in the Red Sea. A Dammam vessel has to leave the Arabian Gulf and round Oman and Yemen to enter it.
| Point of comparison | Via Jeddah Islamic Port | Via the dry port and Dammam port |
|---|---|---|
| Haul inside the Kingdom | Truck, about 950 km | Freight train or truck, about 400 km |
| Start of the voyage | From the Red Sea straight to Suez | A circuit of the Arabian Peninsula first |
| North Africa services | Closely spaced sailings | Fewer, mostly with an extra transhipment |
| When we use it | For most Algeria shipments | For heavy commercial cargo when a Dammam booking works out cheaper |
We review both options at every booking, and Jeddah is the one that wins for most shipments on this line. For the port and its services, see international sea freight from Jeddah.
Shipping methods from Riyadh to Algeria and the time each takes
You have three forms: a full container to yourself, space in a shared container, and air freight. They differ in price, speed and how much they carry, not in destination. The times below run from your door in Riyadh to the consignee’s door:
| Method | Route | Door-to-door time | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full container | Riyadh → Jeddah → Suez → an Algerian port | 3–5 weeks | A full household or wholesale goods |
| Groupage | The same route in a shared container | 4–7 weeks | Cartons and a room or two |
| A car by RoRo or in a container | Car carrier to Jeddah, then a vessel | 4–6 weeks | A car that meets the entry conditions |
| Air | King Khalid Airport → Houari Boumediene with a transit stop | 3–7 days | Parcels, documents and samples |
What lengthens the time?
- Change of vessel: most lines do not sail from Jeddah to Algeria direct, and move the container to a second vessel at a Mediterranean port.
- Congestion at the Algerian port: the vessel may wait its turn at anchor for days before berthing.
- Waiting for consolidation: a shared container is closed only when it is full.
- A certificate not yet issued: furniture arriving before the change of residence certificate is held at the port until it is presented.
- Summer: the season when the community goes home, with vessel space booked weeks ahead.
The timetable for all destinations is on the transit times page.
Shipping prices from Riyadh to Algeria
A single figure cannot fairly be given for a load whose volume is unknown. Whoever prices before asking what you are shipping either raises the figure to be safe, or lowers it to win you and then adds to it at the port. So here we give the floor each service starts from, then work out your own shipment after surveying it and write each item separately:
| What you ship | Method | Price starts from |
|---|---|---|
| Carton | Sea groupage | SAR 140 |
| By the kilogram | Sea groupage for parcels and suitcases | SAR 9.2 per kg |
| Cubic metre | Sea groupage | SAR 415 |
| A small consignment of cartons | Minimum for a groupage shipment | SAR 645 |
| Bedroom | Sea groupage | SAR 2,300 |
| Office or shop furniture | Part of a container | SAR 5,520 |
| A full household | 20ft container from the door | SAR 6,900 |
| 20ft container | Ocean freight alone from Jeddah port | SAR 4,600 |
| 40ft container | Ocean freight alone from Jeddah port | SAR 5,200 |
| Small car | Ocean freight from Jeddah port | SAR 1,655 |
| Four-wheel-drive car | In a shared container with services | SAR 7,820 |
| Air freight | From King Khalid Airport | SAR 28 per kg |
| Documents | Express | SAR 83 |
| Haul from Riyadh to the port and delivery to distant provinces | By volume and distance | Set on request |
Prices circulating in the market for this line are higher than that: a small consignment of cartons from SAR 700, a kilogram in parcels SAR 10, a bedroom with its extras between SAR 2,500 and 4,500, office or shop furniture between SAR 6,000 and 7,500, a full household in a 20ft container between SAR 7,500 and 12,000, a four-wheel-drive car in a shared container between SAR 8,500 and 10,500, and shipping a small car from SAR 1,800. Ocean freight for containers moves with the shipping lines’ rates, so we fix it for you on the booking day, not before.
| What sets the price | Its effect |
|---|---|
| Volume and weight | The cubic metre at sea and chargeable weight in the air. Work out your volume with the CBM calculator |
| Method | Sea is far cheaper, and air cuts weeks to days at a higher price |
| The Riyadh – Jeddah road | The inland haul item, lower when your load rides a scheduled run |
| Province of delivery | Algiers, Oran and Annaba are at the ports; inland and southern provinces are farther and dearer |
| Nature of the pieces | Marble, glass and antiques need timber crates and insurance |
| Added services | Dismantling, assembly, storage and reassembly in Algeria |
| Algerian duties | Set by customs by item and value, and most fall away for a returnee who meets the conditions |
How do you lower the cost?
- If your furniture slightly exceeds a 20ft container, selling two old pieces in the Riyadh second-hand market is cheaper than moving up to a 40ft container.
- Ride our scheduled runs to Jeddah rather than ordering a private truck for a few cubic metres.
- Ship in autumn or winter if your date is flexible; demand is quieter then.
- Send only the urgent items by air and leave the rest to the container.
- Choose the Algerian port nearest your province, since inland haulage there is charged by distance.
Each factor is explained on the pricing factors page.
A full container or groupage?
A full container is loaded in front of you and sealed with a number written on the bill of lading, and the seal is broken only before Algerian customs. Groupage places your numbered pieces in a container with other shipments bound for the same port, so you pay for your space alone. The working rule: from 15 cubic metres upward the full container starts to come out ahead.
| Comparison | Full container | Groupage |
|---|---|---|
| You pay for | The whole container | The cubic metre or the kilogram |
| Time from Riyadh | 3–5 weeks | 4–7 weeks |
| Privacy | Yours alone under one seal | Shared, with separation and numbering per shipper |
| Clearance | One file, which suits the change of residence certificate best | Each shipment on its own declaration after the container is sorted |
| Capacity | About 28 cubic metres in a 20ft and 58 in a 40ft | From one carton to a few cubic metres |
| Price starts from | SAR 4,600 in ocean freight | SAR 415 per cubic metre |
For the inside measurements of each box see our container sizes guide; how the service itself runs is set out under sea freight.
Moving furniture from Riyadh to Algeria: dismantling, loading and assembly
Riyadh homes are spacious and their furniture is large: Arabic majlis seating the length of a wall, bedrooms in heavy timber, and wardrobes built to the room’s measurements. These pieces do not leave through the door as they are, nor enter a container without dismantling. So a carpenter comes with the crew and takes each piece apart in the order it was put together. The wardrobe is emptied first, then its doors, shelves and mirrors come off, and its screws go into a bag carrying the piece’s number and taped to it.
An air-conditioning technician comes too, pumping the gas of a split unit down into the outdoor unit before removing it, and an electrician who takes down chandeliers and disconnects fixed appliances without leaving bare wires in a rented flat. Then every piece is written in an inventory with its number and condition, and you sign it before the truck moves.
In Algeria the consignee checks the pieces against the inventory number by number. If you ask for reassembly, the bedroom and the majlis are put back as they were, so your family does not spend weeks among boxes. The service is explained on the furniture shipping page.
Packing furniture in Riyadh for a sea voyage to Algeria

Between your home and the consignee’s, a piece is lifted and set down at least six times: onto the truck, in the Jeddah warehouse, into the container, at the Algerian port, onto the distribution truck, and at the door. It also spends weeks in a steel container while the air around it shifts from Red Sea heat to Mediterranean damp, so vapour condenses on the inside of its walls. That is why we pack against two hazards together: impact and moisture.
| Item | How it is packed |
|---|---|
| Timber, majlis seating and sofas | Cardboard against scratches, foam corners, then tight plastic wrap that keeps out dust |
| Mirrors, glass and marble | Each sheet on its own between two layers, then a timber frame, carried upright and never flat |
| Fridge, washing machine and air conditioner | Emptied and dried completely, the washing-machine drum secured, and the fridge moved upright to protect the compressor |
| Kitchenware and dinner sets | Each piece in its own paper, plates stacked on edge, and the contents written on the carton |
| Clothes, soft furnishings and carpets | Fabric bags that let air through, and carpets rolled and covered |
| Antiques and paintings | A made-to-measure timber crate lined with foam, placed away from heavy loads |
Moisture-absorbing bags are hung in the container before it is closed, and mattresses and cartons are raised off the floor on boards. Most of the damage people complain of in international shipping comes from home packing with blankets and bin bags, which do not survive the first crane at the port. Securing methods inside the container are on the packing and lashing page, and advice for packing yourself is in the packing guide.
Trucks and loading equipment on the Riyadh – Jeddah road
The road stage inside the Kingdom is the longest stretch of the journey on land, and it passes the descent from Taif towards the coastal plain. We use closed-body trucks for it, not open ones, so the furniture does not reach Jeddah carrying road dust or sun marks. The body is lined inside and has lashing points, so the pieces are strapped down and do not slide on the gradients. For upper floors whose lift does not take large pieces, we bring an external hoist that raises them from the balcony or window. And because truck movement inside Riyadh is limited to hours set by the traffic department, we time the loading to the permitted hours and confirm them to you before the day.
Shipping electrical appliances from Riyadh to Algeria
Do I ship my washing machine, or sell it and buy there? The answer starts with the electricity. Algeria runs on 230 volts at 50 hertz with European sockets of two round pins. Riyadh today is on 230 volts as well, but at 60 hertz and with sockets of three flat pins. So the voltage matches, and the difference is in the frequency and the plug shape.
- Works with a plug adaptor only: screens, computers, chargers and most electronic devices.
- Needs a look at the label: washing machine, air conditioner, fridge and anything with a motor. If it reads 50/60 hertz, ship it; if it reads 60 only, selling it in Riyadh is the better course.
- Old appliances: one near the end of its life is not worth its freight, and the second-hand market in Riyadh is active.
- Large screens: shipped upright in the original carton if you have it, or in a substitute mould. A screen laid on its face breaks under any load.
- Split air conditioner: removing it is a technician’s job, not a screwdriver’s, or the gas is lost and the compressor damaged.
Car shipping from Riyadh to Algeria
Riyadh is the largest car market in the Kingdom: dealerships, showrooms on the Al Kharj road and in Al Shifa, and weekly auctions. What we ship to Algeria comes out of this market: the car of a returning resident who knows its service history, and a low-mileage car its owner bought at auction. We collect the car from the home, the showroom or the auction yard. It is loaded on a car carrier to Jeddah port, so its odometer gains not one kilometre. There it travels in one of two ways:
| Point of comparison | Inside a container | RoRo vessels |
|---|---|---|
| Protection | A closed, sealed steel box | A covered deck inside the vessel |
| Cost | Higher, and lower if furniture shares it | The cheapest for a car on its own |
| Best for | A new or expensive car | An ordinary running car |
| Movement condition | It need not run | It drives on and off under its own power |
| Belongings with it | Possible in the container, outside the car | Not allowed; the cabin travels empty |
The car’s documents before it leaves Riyadh:
- The original vehicle registration in the owner’s name, or a notarised sale contract if it was bought recently.
- The owner’s identity: a valid residence permit or passport, and a power of attorney for whoever acts for them.
- The car clear of fines and liens, then its plates surrendered and the export certificate issued.
- Photos and video of its condition from every side, which we take and send you a copy of.
- A nearly empty fuel tank and a cabin clear of belongings.
What decides the matter, though, is Algerian law, not the shipping. In current practice a private individual resident in Algeria is licensed to bring in a used car no more than three years old, with a petrol, hybrid or electric engine, once every three years. Diesel cars are not accepted under this heading. A returnee with a change of residence certificate has special provisions on the car’s age, engine capacity and value ceiling, amended more than once in the finance laws. So we confirm what is in force before shipping.
Our advice to anyone buying in the Riyadh market: before you pay for the car, send us its model, the date of its first registration and its fuel type. We tell you whether it can enter Algeria and what shipping it costs. Service details are on the car shipping page, and the two methods are compared in RoRo shipping and container car shipping.
Sending parcels, gifts and dates from Riyadh to Algeria
Much of what we carry is small boxes, not households: a carton of Sukkari dates for a father in Setif, abayas and perfumes for a mother in Tlemcen, Eid clothes for children in Constantine, incense for the grandfather’s house in Oran. We collect the parcel from your door even if it is one carton. Dates are packed in sealed tins that keep them soft. Perfumes are wrapped in insulation and go by sea, because aviation restricts flammable liquids. Clothes go in fabric bags.
A resident who buys from Saudi online shops for the family can make our Riyadh address the delivery address. We receive the orders, gather them and repack them into a smaller volume, then ship them in one lot in the consignee’s name. A kilogram in sea groupage starts from SAR 9.2, and a carton from SAR 140.
By post or with a shipping company? For an envelope or an urgent parcel under 5 kilograms, express carriage does the job. For anything above that, the shared container is clearly cheaper, and it is the one that accepts large dimensions and clears household belongings. The consignee should know that Algerian customs may collect duty on a parcel according to its contents and value. The service is on the parcel shipping page.
Commercial shipping from Riyadh’s markets to Algeria
The Algerian trader comes to Riyadh for its wholesale markets: Al Batha, Al Dirah, the Al Kharj road and the two industrial cities. From them they buy abayas and fabrics, perfumes and oud, housewares and electrical goods, and spare parts. What they need after buying is not only a carrier but someone to act for them in the city once they have gone home:
- Collection from suppliers: you send us the invoices and shop addresses, and we collect from each supplier and combine the purchases into one shipment.
- Checking: we count the goods and compare them with the invoice by item and quantity before packing, and send you photos.
- Stowage: the container is filled to its roof in an order that separates the items and numbers the packages, which brings down the price per cubic metre.
- Documents: commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin and a bill of lading in the registered importer’s name.
- Standing contract: a fixed price and a monthly date for those who ship regularly.
The trader must know that importing into Algeria is tightly regulated. The importer needs a commercial register covering the activity and a bank domiciliation for the transaction, and some items are subject to licences or have their import suspended from time to time. So we review the importer’s list of items with them before the purchase, not after. In the same direction we serve the Saudi exporter selling dates, coffee and food products in a market of more than 45 million people. Details are on the commercial shipping page.
Services for companies, offices and hotels in Riyadh
The business sector ships to Algeria too: a company opening a branch and moving its office furniture, partitions and archive, an investor fitting out a hotel or restaurant, an organisation taking part in an exhibition and bringing its equipment back afterwards, and a clinic moving its devices. These projects are carried out to a schedule agreed before the start. Dismantling and loading take place at night or at the weekend so that work does not stop. Each project has one supervisor you refer to for every detail. Office or shop furniture in part of a container starts from SAR 5,520.
Customs clearance and the returnee exemption for Algeria
A shipment may cross the sea intact and then stop at the port over a paper. Every day it stands incurs storage charges that eat what you saved on freight. That is why clearance with us begins in Riyadh, not in Algeria. We write the inventory in the description customs accepts, prepare the Saudi export declaration, and send copies of the documents to the Algerian broker while the vessel is still at sea.
The most important thing here for someone returning for good is the change of residence certificate. In current practice it is issued by the Algerian consulate to a citizen registered with it for at least three consecutive years who has not benefited from it before. With it their belongings and furniture are exempt within a value ceiling set by the finance law, which differs for students and trainees. The certificate is valid for a limited period from its date of issue, and clearance must be completed within it. Because ceilings and conditions change, we confirm what applies to your case before shipping.
| Type of shipment | Documents |
|---|---|
| Belongings and furniture of a returnee | Passport, consular registration card, change of residence certificate, a valued inventory stamped by the consulate, and the bill of lading |
| Belongings of a resident who is not returning, or gifts | The sender’s passport or residence permit, a list of contents with values, and the consignee’s details and identity card |
| A foreigner moving to work in Algeria | Passport, residence card, employment contract and a valued inventory. The belongings enter under temporary admission |
| Commercial goods | Commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, the importer’s register and bank domiciliation, and conformity certificates by item |
| Car | Saudi export certificate, purchase invoice or sale contract, the owner’s passport, and the change of residence certificate if there is one |
Some of these papers can only be obtained while you are in the Kingdom, such as consular deregistration and the stamping of the inventory. So start on them at least a month before your travel date. New goods not covered by an exemption carry customs duty by item and value added tax at a general rate of 19%, paid by the consignee. Document templates are on the shipping documents page, and the procedure is explained on the customs clearance page.
The final-return package from Riyadh and students’ shipments
The last weeks before a final exit are crowded: settling dues, handing back the flat, the children’s school papers, and farewells. Shipping is one item among them, but the heaviest. The package gathers it into one schedule tied to your travel date. One day for dismantling, packing and loading. Then storage if you leave before the vessel’s date. The consulate file is prepared meanwhile. Then delivery in Algeria timed to your arrival or that of whoever you authorise. You hand the key to the landlord and travel with hand luggage.
For Algerian students at Riyadh universities there is a lighter form. Three or four classmates join in one shipment, so we collect from each one’s accommodation and mark their things with a code of their own. It is sorted in Algeria by their provinces, so they share the groupage minimum rather than each paying it alone.
What cannot be shipped to Algeria, or needs a permit
What is barred falls into three kinds: what transport itself bars as a danger to the vessel or aircraft, what the laws of the two countries bar, and what is allowed only with a permit or in a limited quantity. We go through your list before packing, because one offending item stops the whole container for inspection:
| Item | Status |
|---|---|
| Gas cylinders, fuel, fireworks and aerosol cans in quantity | Prohibited by every method |
| Weapons, ammunition and their parts, and hazardous chemicals | Prohibited |
| Narcotics, alcohol and anything the laws of the two countries ban | Prohibited |
| Medicines | A personal quantity with the prescription; more needs a permit |
| Drones, radio sets and satellite communication devices | With prior authorisation from the competent body in Algeria |
| Perishable foods | They do not last weeks at sea and are not accepted in a dry container |
| Cash, gold, jewellery and original documents | They belong in your own bag, not the container |
| Used goods intended for sale | Their commercial import is restricted; the exemption is for personal belongings alone |
The general list for all destinations is on the prohibited items page.
Delivery across Algerian cities and provinces

A service that ends at the quay leaves your family the hardest part of the journey: getting the load out of the port and moving it hundreds of kilometres. So after clearance we carry on by truck to the consignee’s door, and choose the port of arrival by their province. Algeria is divided administratively into 58 provinces, with an increase to 69 approved, and we deliver to its large cities and provincial centres:
| Region | Cities | Best port of arrival |
|---|---|---|
| Algiers and the centre | Algiers and its suburbs, Blida, Boumerdes, Tipaza, Medea, Bouira, Tizi Ouzou | Port of Algiers |
| The west | Oran, Tlemcen, Sidi Bel Abbes, Mostaganem, Mascara, Saida, Relizane, Tiaret, Ain Temouchent | Port of Oran |
| The east | Constantine, Setif, Batna, Annaba, Skikda, Jijel, Guelma, Souk Ahras, Tebessa, Oum El Bouaghi, Bordj Bou Arreridj | Annaba, Skikda or Bejaia |
| The high plateaux and near south | Djelfa, Laghouat, M’sila, Bou Saada, Biskra, El Oued, Ghardaia | Port of Algiers or Skikda |
| The far south | Ouargla, Hassi Messaoud, Touggourt, Bechar, Adrar, Tamanrasset, Illizi, Tindouf | By province, with a longer delivery date |
Setif and Batna are inland, so a load reaches them from the eastern ports by a shorter road than from the capital. Tlemcen is served from Oran. For the provinces of the far south the road is counted in days, not hours, and we tell you their date before booking. If the consignee has no address ready, the load is held in the warehouse until they set a date to receive it. The delivery service is on the door-to-door shipping page.
Air freight from Riyadh to Algeria

Riyadh has an advantage many cities lack: an international airport with a cargo village on the edge of its northern districts. There is no direct flight between Riyadh and Algiers in the usual schedules, so air cargo leaves King Khalid Airport with one transit stop, in Jeddah or at one of the hub airports, and then lands at Houari Boumediene Airport. Door to door it needs 3–7 days; a kilogram starts from SAR 28 and documents from SAR 83.
- What it suits: documents and certificates, prescribed medicine, a trader’s samples, spare parts, and Eid gifts that have run short of time.
- How it is charged: on the greater of actual weight and volumetric weight. A light, bulky carton is charged on its volume.
- Not accepted by air: perfumes in quantity, loose batteries, aerosol cans, and any flammable liquid.
- Delivery: from the airport, or to the consignee’s address in Algiers and the large cities after clearance.
When air freight is too dear for the whole load, the load is split: the urgent items in a couple of cartons by air, and the rest in the container. Work out your weight with the volumetric weight calculator; the service is on the air freight page.
Collection from Riyadh’s districts and outskirts
Riyadh stretches tens of kilometres from end to end, and some carriers ask you to bring your things to their warehouse or add a charge for distant districts. With us, collection from the door is part of the service across Greater Riyadh, and our crews are spread over its quarters:
| Quarter | Districts and governorates |
|---|---|
| North | Al Narjis, Al Yasmin, Al Malqa, Al Sahafah, Hittin, Al Arid, Al Nada, Al Nafl, Al Ghadir, Al Rabi, Al Qirawan, Al Aqiq |
| Centre and east | Al Olaya, Al Sulaymaniyah, Al Malaz, Al Murabba, Al Rawdah, Al Nasim, Al Rayyan, Qurtubah, Al Yarmuk, Ghirnatah, Ishbiliyah, Al Hamra |
| South | Al Shifa, Al Aziziyah, Al Dar Al Baida, Badr, Al Marwah, Al Suwaidi, Al Shumaisi, Manfuhah, Okaz, Tuwaiq, Dhahrat Laban, Namar |
| West | Irqah, Diriyah, Wadi Laban, Al Khuzama, Al Mahdiyah, Dirab |
| Governorates of the region | Al Kharj, Al Muzahimiyah, Dhurma, Al Dilam, Huraymila and Rumah by prior appointment, and Al Quwayiyah, Al Aflaj and Dawadmi on request |
Send your location on WhatsApp and we will name the nearest day the crew passes through your quarter.
Storage in Riyadh and services that round off the move
It happens often: the tenancy ends at the close of the month, and the travel date or the readiness of the house in Algeria is weeks later. In that case your things go into our Riyadh warehouse packed and inventoried. The warehouse is monitored by cameras and protected from heat, dust and insects, and every piece in it has its number. When the vessel’s date approaches, the load leaves the warehouse for Jeddah under the same contract. Details are on the storage page.
- Steam cleaning of sofas and carpets before packing, so no smell is trapped in the container for weeks.
- Preventive treatment of timber and furnishings against insects during storage and the voyage.
- Cleaning the flat after it is emptied so you hand it to the landlord and recover the deposit.
- Sale of packing materials: cartons, tape and wrap for those who pack their small items themselves.
Shipping seasons from Riyadh to Algeria: when do you book?
Traffic on this line is not even through the year. It rises at the end of the school year when families go back, and before Ramadan and the two Eids when gifts multiply, and it settles in between. Knowing the season decides when you book and at what price:
| Season | What happens | When to book |
|---|---|---|
| Summer and the end of the school year | Families, teachers and students return, and containers fill up | Six to eight weeks before you travel |
| Before Ramadan and the two Eids | The peak for parcels of dates and gifts | By sea a month and a half before the occasion; after that, air |
| Autumn and winter | Quieter demand and wider choice of dates | The best time for a large container and commercial goods |
Prepare your home for collection day
Loading day goes faster if a little preparation on your side comes first. It is not our work, but it saves hours and prevents mistakes:
- Unplug the fridge and freezer a full day ahead, then empty and dry them. Water left behind turns to mould in the container.
- Wash the clothes and furnishings you are shipping and dry them well.
- Gather what is not being shipped in one room and mark it, so that what you mean to sell or carry is not packed.
- Put passports, contracts, gold and cash in your own bag.
- Photograph the flat and its meters before dismantling if you are a tenant.
- Reserve a space for the truck near the entrance, and tell the building’s caretaker the time.
- Point out every old defect to the crew, such as a loose shelf or a crack in a panel, so it is written in the inventory.
Steps for shipping from Riyadh to Algeria
- Contact: you send on WhatsApp 0552803439 the list of items or their photos, your district in Riyadh, and the Algerian province.
- Survey and price: we survey at your home or by video call, then the itemised price reaches you in writing.
- Contract and date: a contract naming the services and the time, and a collection date that fits your working hours, morning, evening or weekend.
- Loading day: dismantling, packing and numbering, an inventory you sign, then loading with equipment.
- To Jeddah: a closed truck to the port, stuffing and sealing the container, and the export declaration.
- Sailing: a copy of the bill of lading and the container number reach you the day the vessel moves.
- Clearance in Algeria: the broker lodges the file on berthing and follows it to release.
- Delivery: the load reaches the consignee’s address by truck, every piece is ticked off the inventory, furniture is reassembled where that was ordered, and the handover is signed.
Tracking, insurance and guarantees
From the moment the load leaves your door, its reference number is how you know where it is. A message reaches you at every point: left Riyadh, entered Jeddah port, sailed, berthed in Algeria, clearance begun, out for distribution. If you ask between one point and the next, someone answers with a specific fact from 7 am to 11 pm. The container number can also be followed on the shipping line’s website. It is explained on the shipment tracking page.
Your guarantees are four papers, not promises: a contract with the services, price and time, an inventory both sides sign at loading and at delivery, photos of valuable pieces before they are packed, and a marine insurance policy if you choose it. Insurance is optional, calculated as a percentage of the declared value, and covers the risks of carriage from door to door. If something does go wrong, you face an establishment with a register and an address, not a number that stops answering. Details are on the cargo insurance page.
Shipping from Algeria to Riyadh
The line works in both directions. An Algerian joining a new job in Riyadh and bringing belongings, an Umrah pilgrim or visitor sending purchases ahead, and a trader importing Algerian dates, olive oil or craft products. We collect from the large Algerian cities and ship by sea from the port of Algiers or Oran to Jeddah port, then by truck to Riyadh. Or by air to King Khalid Airport. Foodstuffs and dates need clearance in the Kingdom from the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, so we tell you its requirements before the goods are loaded.
Examples of typical shipments on the Riyadh – Algeria line
General figures are not enough to picture your own shipment, so here are three cases that recur with us in similar forms:
- A doctor returning after many years: a villa in north Riyadh with majlis rooms and a large library. Two days of dismantling and packing, a 40ft container, and the change of residence file ready before sailing. It arrives and is assembled in Algiers in about five weeks.
- Four students in one shipment: collection from four addresses, a code for each student, and distribution to two provinces. Each pays about a quarter of what they would have paid alone.
- An abaya trader in Oran: she orders from her suppliers in Al Batha from her own country. We collect, check and photograph, then the goods travel under her commercial register to the port of Oran.
How do you choose a shipping company from Riyadh to Algeria?
The difference between offers is not in the written figure but in who carries the responsibility when one of the links breaks down. A middleman takes the deposit and hands your load to a carrier you do not know, and if you ask afterwards he refers you to him. Before you choose, ask about these points and look at the answer:
| What you ask about | A reassuring sign | A warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| Responsibility | One party from your door to the consignee’s door | “We deliver to the port and the rest is the broker’s” |
| Price | Items: inland haul, sea, clearance and delivery | A low figure, then “port expenses” that appear later |
| Returnee exemption | Asks about your consular registration before pricing | Has not heard of the change of residence certificate |
| The car | Asks for the first registration date and fuel type | “Any car can enter Algeria” |
| Packing | Sea-grade materials, moisture bags and timber crates | Blankets and adhesive tape |
| Proof | Commercial registration, contract and signed inventory | A WhatsApp account with no address |
Common mistakes when shipping to Algeria
- Leaving the arrangements to the last week, so you accept any date and any price. Start one to two months before travelling.
- Sending the household goods off while the change of residence certificate is still pending, or with only weeks left before it lapses.
- Leaving the Kingdom before the inventory is stamped and the registration cancelled at the consulate.
- Buying a car at auction before making sure its age and fuel are accepted in Algeria.
- Shipping everything without sorting. What is worth less than its freight should be sold or given away.
- Signing the inventory without reading it, or travelling without a copy of it.
- Choosing the lowest figure without asking: does it include clearance and delivery to the province?

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Riyadh to Algeria
How much does shipping from Riyadh to Algeria cost?
Prices start from SAR 140 for a carton in a shared container, SAR 415 for a cubic metre, SAR 2,300 for a bedroom, and SAR 4,600 in ocean freight for a 20ft container out of Jeddah port. By air, a kilogram starts from SAR 28 and documents from SAR 83. The final figure is set once we know the volume, your district in Riyadh and the province of delivery, and it reaches you itemised on 0552803439.
How long does a container take from Riyadh to Algeria?
Usually 3 to 5 weeks from your door to the consignee’s door. Two to five days to prepare and truck the load to Jeddah, two to three weeks at sea, then clearance and delivery inside Algeria. A shared container needs 4 to 7 weeks because it waits for its load to be completed.
Is there shipping by the kilo from Riyadh to Algeria?
Yes. In sea groupage a kilogram starts from SAR 9.2 for loads charged by weight, and by air from SAR 28. So a box of clothes, books or gifts ships on its own without booking a container, and is delivered in the consignee’s province.
Do you collect from every district of Riyadh?
Yes, from the north in Al Narjis, Al Malqa and Al Yasmin to the south in Al Shifa, Badr and Al Aziziyah, and from Qurtubah in the east to Irqah and Diriyah in the west. We also collect from Al Kharj, Al Muzahimiyah, Dhurma and Huraymila on a date arranged beforehand, and from Al Quwayiyah, Dawadmi and Al Aflaj on request.
Why does a Riyadh shipment leave from Jeddah port and not Dammam?
Because Algeria lies on the Mediterranean, and the shortest way there is the Red Sea and then the Suez Canal. A Jeddah vessel starts in the Red Sea itself, while a Dammam vessel spends days rounding the Arabian Peninsula before it reaches it. The longer road to Jeddah is repaid by a shorter voyage.
How much furniture fits in a 20ft container?
It holds about 28 cubic metres, which is usually the furniture of a flat of two to three rooms with its appliances when stowed carefully. A villa or a large house needs a 40ft container of about 58 cubic metres. We settle the size by a survey before you pay.
Is someone returning to Algeria for good exempt from duty on their furniture?
In current practice, an Algerian registered with the consulate for at least three years obtains from it a change of residence certificate, and with it their belongings and used furniture enter exempt, within a value ceiling set by the finance law. The certificate is granted once and has a validity period. We review the conditions in force with you before shipping.
Can I ship my car from Riyadh to Algeria?
The shipping itself is available, in a container or by RoRo vessel from Jeddah port, and ocean freight for a small car starts from SAR 1,655. Its entry, however, depends on Algerian rules: an age within the permitted limit, a petrol, hybrid or electric engine, and limits on capacity and value. Send the car’s details before any booking so we can confirm its position.
Can the car be shipped with the furniture in one container?
Yes, in a 40ft container, provided the car meets the entry conditions. The car is fixed with straps and chocks to the container floor, a timber partition separates it from the furniture, and each is written on its own list because customs handles each under a different procedure.
Who receives the shipment in Algeria if I have not arrived yet?
A person you name by a power of attorney, normally a family member. We write their name and phone number in the shipping documents, and they check the pieces against the inventory and then sign. For a change of residence file the certificate holder may be required in person, so we match the arrival date to your travel date.
Is there land freight from Riyadh to Algeria?
We do not offer it. The two countries share no border, and the overland route crosses several countries with unstable transit procedures. The road part of our service is the haul from Riyadh to the port, and then delivery from the Algerian port to the province.
Will my electrical appliances work in Algeria?
The voltage in Algeria is 230 volts, as in most Riyadh homes today, but the frequency is 50 hertz and the sockets are European with two round pins. Screens, computers and chargers work with a plug adaptor only. For appliances with a motor, such as a washing machine or an air conditioner, check the label: if it reads 50/60 hertz, they are fine.
Is the post cheaper than a shipping company for a small parcel?
For an envelope or an urgent parcel under 5 kilograms, express post may be practical. Above that the sum reverses: sending 20 kilograms by express costs about as much as a full cubic metre in a shared container. Furniture and appliances are outside postal dimensions altogether.
Is the shipment insured?
Marine insurance is optional and calculated as a percentage of the value you declare. We advise it for a full household, a car and expensive appliances, because the load is lifted and set down more than once between Riyadh, Jeddah and the Algerian port. The signed inventory is the reference for any claim.
How do I find out the exact price of my shipment?
Send on WhatsApp 0552803439 a list of what you are shipping or photos of it, the name of your district in Riyadh, and the province where it is to be delivered. The price reaches you by item: haul to the port, ocean freight, clearance and delivery. For a full household we send someone to survey at your home at no charge.
