Who ships from Jeddah to Algeria, and what do they ship?
Most of the demand on this route comes from five groups. Jeddah and Makkah have Algerians working in hospitals, schools and companies; every season Algerian Umrah and Hajj pilgrims pass through Jeddah airport with baggage beyond their ticket allowance; and Algerian traders buy from the city’s markets. Each group sends something different, and each thing has a method that suits it:
| Shipper | What they usually send | Best method |
|---|---|---|
| A family returning for good | A whole home of furniture and appliances, sometimes a car | A 20ft or 40ft container loaded at the door |
| A resident sending to family | Cartons of clothes, gifts and small appliances | A shared container, by the carton or the cubic metre |
| The Umrah or Hajj pilgrim | Extra bags, dates, rugs and gifts | Shared sea freight, or air for those who want it fast |
| The trader and importer | Fabrics, perfumes, foodstuffs and spare parts | A full container, or shared for trial quantities |
| The car owner | A car that meets the Algerian import conditions | A dedicated or shared container, and RoRo when a sailing is available |
| The student and graduate | Books, clothes, a computer and room belongings | Cartons in shared freight, and documents by air |
We also take what falls outside this list: the contents of an office or clinic, the fittings of a restaurant or café, chandeliers, paintings and antiques, and machines and equipment. These we inspect first, then build a made-to-measure wooden crate for whatever needs one.
The route from Jeddah to Algeria and how long it takes
The shipment passes six stops between the two doors, and the sea is the longest of them but not the only one. Anyone asking about the time sometimes hears the sailing figure alone, then is surprised by the export days in Jeddah and the clearance days in Algeria. This is how the journey of a full container breaks down:
| Stop | What happens there | Usual time |
|---|---|---|
| Collection | Furniture dismantled and packed and the inventory written at your home | One day |
| The road to the quay | A truck from the district to Jeddah Islamic Port | Hours |
| Export | The export declaration and handing the container to the shipping line | 2–4 days |
| Sailing | North up the Red Sea, then Suez, then west across the Mediterranean | 12–20 days |
| Clearance | Declaration, inspection and payment at the Algerian port | Days that follow the port and the completeness of the papers |
| Delivery | A truck from the port to the province | One to 3 days |
The overall time differs with the method. The figures below are door to door, and they are estimates that we fix for you at booking according to the nearest vessel:
| Method | Approximate time | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Full container | 20–30 days | A whole home, wholesale goods, or a car with furniture |
| Shared container | 28–42 days | Cartons and a room or two, for those in no hurry |
| A car in a container or by RoRo | 20–32 days | Cars that meet Algeria’s conditions |
| Air | 3–7 days | Documents, parcels and a traveller’s urgent baggage |
What lengthens the time?
- A change of vessel: many lines do not reach Algeria directly, so the container moves to another ship at a hub port on the Mediterranean.
- Filling the shared container: it is not closed until it is full of several senders’ shipments.
- Congestion at the arrival port: the port of Algiers is the busiest of them in some seasons.
- A missing paper: an inventory that does not match the contents, or a change of residence certificate not yet issued.
- Seasons: after Hajj, before Ramadan and in summer, demand on this route rises.
The table of times to other countries is on the transit times page, and the comparison between sea and air on the shipping methods comparison page.
Shipping prices from Jeddah to Algeria
A shipping bill from Jeddah is shorter than one from any inland city, because the haulage-to-port line almost disappears from it. Three things remain: the sea or air freight, the services you ask for in Jeddah such as packing and dismantling, then clearance and delivery in Algeria if you want delivery to the door. These are the prices our services start from, and the container price here is ocean freight from Jeddah port:
| What you ship | Method | Price starts from |
|---|---|---|
| Carton | Shared container | SAR 140 |
| Per kilogram above 100 kg | Shared container | SAR 5.5 a kilogram |
| Cubic metre | Part-load sea freight | SAR 415 |
| Small load | Minimum for a sea shipment | SAR 1,380 |
| Bedroom | Part-load sea freight | SAR 1,650 |
| Small car | Shared container or RoRo | SAR 1,655 |
| 20ft container | Full container | SAR 4,600 |
| 40ft container | Full container | SAR 5,200 |
| Air freight | From King Abdulaziz Airport | SAR 28 a kilogram |
| Documents | Express | SAR 83 |
| Heavy equipment and boats | Flat rack container or RoRo | Set on request according to dimensions and weight |
Prices circulating in the market on the Algeria route are mostly higher than that, and few companies publish a figure at all. What we found published: small parcels from SAR 700, a kilogram of consolidated freight from SAR 10, a part load of furniture between SAR 2,500 and 4,500, and a 20ft container for a whole home with its services between SAR 7,500 and 12,000. For a car, a price starting from SAR 1,800 is advertised, then a saloon in a shared container is quoted between SAR 6,000 and 7,500, and a four-wheel drive in a dedicated container between SAR 8,500 and 10,500. The gap between these figures comes from what the price includes, so always ask: is it to the port or to the door? Container rates are detailed in the article container shipping prices from Jeddah.
| What moves the price | How it acts |
|---|---|
| Volume or weight | The cubic metre or container size at sea, and the kilogram in the air. Estimate it with the CBM calculator |
| Shipping method | Sea is cheaper by a wide margin, and with air you pay for the days |
| Collection point | Jeddah districts at a similar price, and Makkah and Taif with an addition stated to you beforehand |
| Arrival port and province | The closer the port to the consignee, the lower the trucking cost in Algeria |
| Type of contents | Glass, marble and antiques need wooden crates and higher insurance |
| Added services | Dismantling and assembly, full packing and storage, all optional |
| Algerian duties | Set by customs there by item and value, and waived for the holder of a change of residence certificate within its limits |
How do you lower the cost?
- Sell in Jeddah whatever is not worth the journey; every cubic metre you remove comes off the bill.
- Put the car and the furniture in a single 40ft container instead of two shipments.
- Ask for the arrival port nearest the consignee’s province so you do not pay for a long truck run inside Algeria.
- Send Ramadan and Eid parcels by sea six weeks ahead, and you will not be forced into air freight.
- Share one container with colleagues or relatives if you are all bound for the same port.
The pricing items are explained on the pricing factors page.
What sets shipping from Jeddah apart from other Saudi cities?
Jeddah is the Saudi city that holds the port of departure for North Africa, and that changes three things about your shipment. The first is money: no truck carries you hundreds of kilometres before the quay. The second is time: what is packed today may enter the port tomorrow. The third is flexibility: if you miss a ship the container is close by, and we put it on the next one without extra haulage.
| Item | Shipping from Jeddah | Shipping from an inland city |
|---|---|---|
| Distance to the quay | Inside the city | Hundreds of kilometres by road |
| Entering the port after packing | One to 3 days | A day or two more on the road |
| Loading the container | In front of your home, sealed while you watch | At the home followed by a long road trip, or in a warehouse near the port |
| The ship’s heading | North to Suez directly | From Gulf ports it sails round the Arabian Peninsula |
| Changing the sailing date | Easy because the container is near | Costs storage or a second haul |
Jeddah has another side that must be reckoned with: its air is humid and salty for most of the year. Furniture wrapped while damp stays that way for weeks in a locked container. That is why we make drying a step before packing, not after it, and explain it in the packing section below. Port information is on the ports and gateways page.
Sea freight from Jeddah Islamic Port: a full container or a shared one?

Sea freight is sold in two forms: a container you book whole, or space inside a container that several senders share. The first stands in front of your home, is filled and then given a numbered seal whose number is written on the bill of lading, and that seal is broken only before Algerian customs. In the second, your shipment is gathered with others at the consolidation warehouse and you pay for your own volume alone.
| Point of comparison | Full container | Shared container |
|---|---|---|
| Basis of charge | Container size, 20ft or 40ft | The cubic metre or the number of cartons |
| Time | 20–30 days | 28–42 days |
| Privacy | One seal and one shipment | Every shipment numbered and kept apart from its neighbour |
| Clearance | One file that is yours | Follows the completeness of everyone’s files in the container |
| When to choose it | From 15 cubic metres upwards | Anything below that |
| Price starts from | SAR 4,600 for a 20ft container | SAR 415 a cubic metre |
A 20ft container holds about 28 cubic metres, which is the furniture of a two- to three-bedroom flat. A 40ft container holds about 58 cubic metres, enough for a large house or a car with furniture behind it. And because demand from Jeddah for Algeria runs all year, a shared container fills here in less time than it would in a city far from the port. Container dimensions are on the container sizes page, and the service is explained on the sea freight page.
Inside the container there is an order the customer never sees but which protects the shipment. Heavy items go at the bottom with their weight spread to both sides, so the container does not tilt when lifted. Pieces are strapped down and separated with timber boards. Glass and appliances are kept away from the door and from heavy pieces. These things are done in the hour of loading, and their effect shows three weeks later.
Receiving shipments at Algerian ports: which port suits your province?

Algeria is a vast country with a long coast, and between Oran and Annaba there are about 950 km by road. So we do not send everything to the capital. We first ask about the consignee’s province, then choose the port that makes the final truck run shorter. This is what each port serves:
| Port | Region | Provinces it mostly serves |
|---|---|---|
| Algiers | Centre | Algiers, Blida, Boumerdes, Tipaza, Medea, Bouira and Tizi Ouzou |
| Oran | West | Oran, Mostaganem, Tlemcen, Sidi Bel Abbes, Mascara, Relizane and Ain Temouchent |
| Annaba | Far east | Annaba, Guelma, Souk Ahras, Tebessa and El Tarf |
| Skikda | East | Skikda, Constantine, Mila, Oum El Bouaghi and Batna |
| Bejaia | Kabylie and the highlands | Bejaia, Setif, Bordj Bou Arreridj and Jijel |
Oran deserves a word of its own, because many of our Jeddah customers come from the western provinces. When a sailing to the port of Oran is available we route shipments for Mostaganem, Tlemcen, Sidi Bel Abbes and Mascara to it, so they reach their owners hours after leaving the port instead of a full day from the capital. If the wait for that sailing is long, we set out both options with price and time, and the decision is the shipment owner’s.
On arrival the clearing agent receives the vessel’s notice, lodges the declaration, attends the customs inspection, then releases the shipment to the delivery truck. The consignee does not need to go to the port unless customs asks for him in person, as with change of residence files and cars.
Moving furniture from Jeddah to Algeria: dismantling and assembly
Furniture does not go into the container as it stands. A wardrobe with its doors and mirrors takes up twice its dismantled space, and it is at its weakest standing upright. So loading day begins with a carpenter, not a porter. Drawers are emptied, doors and shelves are taken off, the screws go into a numbered bag taped to the piece itself, and complicated assemblies are photographed before they are taken apart so they go back as they were.
With the carpenter comes an air-conditioning technician who recovers the gas from a split unit before removing it, and an electrician who takes down chandeliers and disconnects fitted ovens and washing machines. Mind the difference in electricity before you pay to ship an appliance: the grid in Algeria is 230 volts at 50 hertz, and some appliances in the Saudi market are built for 60 hertz. Check the rating plate behind every appliance with a motor, and sell in Jeddah whatever does not match.
In Algeria, reassembly at delivery is possible if you asked for it in the contract: the crates are opened, beds and wardrobes are put together, and every piece is placed in its room. Service details are on the furniture shipping page.
Packing that withstands Jeddah’s humidity and the sea voyage
A Jeddah shipment meets humidity twice: once in the coastal air before the container is closed, and once during the weeks at sea. The mistake we often see is a householder wrapping belongings in the evening on a balcony or in a courtyard, which traps the moisture inside the plastic. So we begin with drying, then give each material what suits it:
| Item | How it is packed | What we watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Wood and sofas | Cardboard, then foam on the corners, then plastic wrap | The wood is wiped and left to dry before wrapping |
| Glass, mirrors and marble | Wrapped singly in a timber frame and stacked upright | Fragile and orientation marks on every face |
| Fridges, washing machines and air conditioners | Foam on all sides, then heavy cardboard | Unplugged a day ahead, dried inside, moving parts secured |
| Kitchenware | Every piece in its own paper, stacked upright with dividers | The contents are written on the carton |
| Rugs, curtains and clothes | Breathable cloth bags, and an outer wrap for rugs | Washed and dried completely before packing |
| Antiques, paintings and chandeliers | A padded wooden crate made to measure | Placed as far as possible from the container door |
Before the container is sealed, moisture-absorbing bags are spread through it, and strips of them are hung from the roof if the load is wood and fabric. Anyone who prefers to pack small items personally can buy cartons, tape and bubble wrap from us, and we note in the inventory that they were packed by the owner. Packing methods are in the packing guide.
How do you estimate your shipment’s volume before you call?
The unit of charge at sea is the cubic metre: length by width by height, all in metres. If you know your approximate volume, the question about price becomes shorter and your comparison between companies becomes fair. These are quantities taken from what we actually load:
| Contents | Approximate volume after packing |
|---|---|
| A carton of books or clothes | 0.1–0.15 cubic metre |
| A medium washing machine or fridge | 0.7–1.2 cubic metres |
| A complete bedroom, dismantled | 4–6 cubic metres |
| A majlis or large sofa set | 3–5 cubic metres |
| A two- to three-bedroom flat | 20–28 cubic metres, that is a 20ft container |
| A villa or large house | 45–58 cubic metres, that is a 40ft container |
These are rough figures, and they rise or fall with how well things are dismantled and stacked. The figure you are charged on is what is measured at the survey or in the consolidation warehouse, not what was guessed over the telephone.
Shipping parcels and cartons by the kilo: with a traveller or with a shipping company?
You do not need a houseful of furniture to ship. A single carton of clothes or gifts goes in the shared container from SAR 140, and anything weighing more than 100 kg is charged from SAR 5.5 a kilogram. The parcel is delivered to the consignee’s address in the province, not at the port.
Many people ask: so-and-so is travelling to Algeria next week, shall I send it with him? An envelope or a light gift with a relative you trust is quite normal. But once the volume grows the sums change, and this comparison makes it clear:
| Item | With a traveller | With a shipping company |
|---|---|---|
| Quantity | The ticket allowance, and anything over at high charges | From one carton to a container |
| Liability | Borne by the traveller before customs for something he did not pack | A registered entity with its name and contract |
| Packing and inventory | None | Packing and a signed list |
| Furniture and appliances | Not possible | Possible |
| In case of loss or breakage | No proof and no compensation | A bill of lading, and insurance for those who ask |
In short, a traveller will do for an envelope, and anything beyond it needs a bill of lading. The parcel service is explained on the parcel shipping page.
Shipping pilgrims’ belongings from Jeddah to Algeria

The Algerian Umrah or Hajj pilgrim mostly enters and leaves through King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah, and goes home with more than he brought. Dates, prayer rugs, prayer beads, perfumes, fabrics and a gift for every relative, and then he finds at the scales that the excess costs more than what he bought. The answer is to travel light and let the baggage follow.
We come to where you are staying, whether a hotel in Makkah, a flat in Jeddah or your group’s base. Every bag and every carton is weighed in front of you and given a tag with your name, your telephone number in Algeria and the piece number out of the total. You receive a sheet with the count, the weight and the tracking number before we leave. For pilgrim groups we give each pilgrim a separate list so that baggage does not get mixed up at distribution.
| Item | How we ship it | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Dates | In their sealed packs inside a lined carton | Kept away from the container wall exposed to heat, in personal-use quantities |
| Rugs and fabrics | Covered rolls or cloth bags | Shipped dry |
| Oud and incense | Tight boxes that hold the scent | Goes by sea or by air |
| Liquid perfumes | Wrapped singly with shock-absorbing filler | By sea; they are restricted on aircraft |
| Prayer beads and small gifts | Boxes inside one numbered carton | Written in the list by count |
| Zamzam water | Not shipped | The traveller carries his dedicated pack personally from the airport |
Anyone who wants gifts to arrive before an occasion should work out the date: shared sea freight needs about six weeks, so what is sent after the Hajj season arrives before the school year starts, and what is meant for Ramadan is sent a month and a half before it. If time is short, air delivers it in days.
Commercial shipping from Jeddah’s markets to the Algerian market
Jeddah was a market before it was a port. In Al-Balad there are fabrics, perfumes and incense; in the wholesale markets, foodstuffs and dates; and in the industrial area, spare parts and equipment. The Algerian trader who buys from these markets needs someone to gather his purchases from several suppliers, check them against the invoices, then ship them in a single file.
| Goods | Shipping method | What they require |
|---|---|---|
| Dates and foodstuffs | A dry or refrigerated container | A health certificate, a certificate of origin and sufficient shelf life |
| Fabrics, abayas and new clothing | Bales and cartons | A packing list with count, weight and country of manufacture |
| Perfumes and incense | By sea in tight packing | A statement of composition, and liquids are declared |
| Appliances and electronics | Sea for quantities, air for samples | An invoice with model and serial number, and a conformity certificate if requested |
| New spare parts | Strapped pallets | Part numbers on the invoice. Used parts are restricted in Algeria |
Commercial importing in Algeria has its own procedures: the importer needs a commercial register that covers import activity and, under current practice, has to domicile the invoice with his bank before shipment, and some items fall under ban or licence lists that change from time to time. So we ask the trader to confirm with his broker in Algeria that the item is allowed before we book the container. A regular importer gets a monthly or seasonal shipping schedule and a price agreed for the quantity. More detail is on the commercial shipping page.
Car shipping from Jeddah to Algeria
A car is shipped from Jeddah by sea, and the price for a small car starts from SAR 1,655. The distance between the city’s showrooms and the port quay is covered in under an hour, so the car neither waits in a distant yard nor rides a transporter for a long way. Yet the most important part of this service is not the carriage; it is that the car is one Algeria allows in.
| Method | How it is done | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Dedicated container | The car alone in a 20ft container, its wheels secured with chocks and straps | A new or valuable car |
| 40ft container with furniture | The car at the front and the furniture behind a timber partition | A returnee shipping home and car together |
| Shared container | More than one car in a single container, with the freight divided | Those looking for the lowest cost |
| RoRo | The car is driven onto the ship and driven off | Whenever a suitable sailing to an Algerian port is available |
What we do and what we ask of you: we photograph the car from every side and record the odometer reading, check for leaks, disconnect the alarm, bring the fuel down to the permitted level, then secure it and issue the bill of lading. You settle the traffic fines, complete the export certificate and plate cancellation with Jeddah traffic department, empty the cabin of your belongings, and hand us one key.
| Paper or condition | Explanation |
|---|---|
| Registration or sale contract | An original in the sender’s name, or a notarised authorisation for whoever acts for him |
| Purchase invoice | Showing the model, date of first registration, chassis number and price |
| Export certificate | Issued by the traffic department after the fines are settled |
| Identity of both parties | The sender’s passport or residence permit, and the consignee’s details in Algeria |
| Age of the car | Current practice for a resident of Algeria: less than three years from first registration. We confirm what applies before shipping |
| Engine type | Petrol, hybrid or electric; diesel is excluded according to the rule in circulation |
| A returnee with a change of residence certificate | Has special rules on engine size and age set by the finance laws, to be checked with the consulate |
Our standing advice: call before you buy. Algeria’s car import rules have been amended more than once in recent years, and a car that does not meet them stays at the port or is sent back at its owner’s expense. Send the model, the date of first registration, the fuel type and the engine size, and we will reply with what we know of the current rules. The service guide is on the car shipping guide page.
Algerian customs and the documents required
Being near the port does nothing for a shipment whose file is incomplete. Our rule is that the container is not sealed before its papers are complete, because correcting a paper in Jeddah takes an hour, while correcting it with the container at the port of Algiers takes days and ground rent. These are the papers by type of shipment:
| Type of shipment | Papers | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Furniture and personal effects | The sender’s passport and residence permit, a detailed inventory, the consignee’s details and the bill of lading | We write the list during packing, and a French copy is best attached to it |
| A returnee’s furniture | The above, with the change of residence certificate and an inventory endorsed by the consulate | Obtained while you are in the Kingdom, before sailing |
| Commercial goods | An invoice for the goods and a packing list, the certificate of origin, the bill of lading, plus the Algerian importer’s details and his commercial register | Plus what the bank asks for domiciliation and the certificates specific to the item |
| Parcels and gifts | The sender’s ID, a statement of contents and value, and the consignee’s address and telephone | Duties are assessed on them by value |
The change of residence certificate in brief: it is the document under which an Algerian returning for good is exempted from duties on used furniture and belongings. It is granted by the consulate he is registered with, and Jeddah has a consulate general of Algeria. The conditions in practice: continuous residence abroad of no less than three years, no previous use of it, and a single grant to the head of the family. It is valid for six months from its date of issue, and the value of the belongings has a ceiling set by law that differs for students. These conditions change with the finance laws, so take them from the consulate first, and we then arrange the shipping date around the certificate’s validity.
For anyone without the certificate, the consignee pays duties by item and value, and we give him an estimate before the shipment sails. The clearance service is on the customs clearance page, and the lists of papers on the shipping documents page.
Items prohibited from shipping to Algeria
What is barred is of two kinds: what the ship and the aircraft refuse because it is dangerous, and what Algeria bans or restricts on entry. The first is almost fixed, and the second changes by decision. We go through your list before packing, take out whatever we find prohibited and tell you the alternative.
| Item | Status | Reason or alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Gas cylinders, fuel and fireworks | Prohibited | Flammable or explosive materials |
| Weapons, ammunition and the like | Prohibited | Not accepted in any capacity |
| Drugs, alcohol and anything banned in both countries | Prohibited | Criminal liability for the owner |
| Medicines | Restricted | A personal-use quantity with the prescription |
| Perishable foods | Not shipped by sea | They do not survive weeks of travel in a dry container |
| Cash, gold and original documents | Not shipped | They stay with their owner in hand luggage |
| Drones and radio communication devices | Restricted | They need prior authorisation in Algeria under current practice |
| Used spare parts and used clothing in commercial quantities | Restricted or prohibited | Ask the broker before shipping |
| Zamzam water | Not shipped | Only the traveller’s dedicated pack |
The general list is on the prohibited items page.
Delivery to the Algerian provinces, right to the door
Once the shipment leaves customs it is loaded onto a truck for the consignee’s province. Coastal cities near the port are reached the same day or the next, the highland provinces within two days, and the south needs longer because of the distance. These are the regions we deliver to:
| Region | Main cities | Usual port |
|---|---|---|
| Centre | Algiers, Blida, Boumerdes, Tipaza, Medea, Tizi Ouzou, Bouira | Algiers |
| West | Oran, Mostaganem, Tlemcen, Sidi Bel Abbes, Mascara, Relizane, Tiaret, Saida | Oran |
| East | Constantine, Annaba, Setif, Batna, Bejaia, Jijel, Skikda, Guelma, Tebessa, Bordj Bou Arreridj | Annaba, Skikda or Bejaia |
| Highlands and steppe | Djelfa, Laghouat, M’Sila, Biskra, Chlef | The nearest, depending on the province |
| South | Ouargla, Hassi Messaoud, Ghardaia, El Oued, Bechar, Adrar, Tamanrasset | Set on request, with a longer time |
At the door the consignee checks the pieces against the inventory one by one before signing. If the home is not ready on arrival day, we agree another date or a handover to someone acting for him under an authorisation. What the service means and where it ends is on the door to door page.
Final return, students and companies: what we arrange for each customer
Anyone leaving Jeddah for good has, in the last weeks, an employment contract to close, a flat to hand back, school files and flight tickets. So we make shipping a single item with a single date: one day for dismantling, packing and loading set against your flight date, storage if you fly before the ship, and a delivery in Algeria that matches your arrival or that of whoever you have authorised.
A student who has finished at the universities of Jeddah or Makkah has a small shipment of cartons in the shared container, and several classmates can split a cubic metre if their provinces are close together. Companies, contractors, government bodies and missions have contracts with official invoices and one officer who follows their shipments. These are three cases that recur on this route, and how they are handled:
| Case | What we propose |
|---|---|
| A family leaving north Jeddah for Constantine at the start of the holidays | A 40ft container to Skikda or Annaba, loaded in one day and booked on the nearest vessel after the change of residence certificate is issued |
| A fabric trader in Algiers buying from Al-Balad every two months | Gathering from the suppliers at our warehouse, checking against the invoices, then a 20ft container with a single commercial file |

Is there land freight from Jeddah to Algeria?
We do not offer land freight on this route. The overland road to Algeria crosses several countries and borders, and its conditions do not allow a regular service with a fixed date and price. The sea from Jeddah reaches the Algerian ports with no truck stopping at every border. With us the truck has two roles only: from your home to Jeddah port, and from the Algerian port to the consignee’s door.
Air freight from Jeddah to Algeria

Air freight leaves King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah for Houari Boumediene Airport in Algiers, and between the two airports there are direct flights of about six hours. From the capital the shipment continues to Oran, Constantine or elsewhere by road or on a domestic flight. Door to door takes 3 to 7 days, the price starts from SAR 28 a kilogram, and documents from SAR 83.
It suits whatever is short of time, or light in weight and high in value: official papers and certificates, a traveller’s baggage needed on arrival, commercial samples before a deal, electronics, and gifts for an occasion close at hand. The charge is on the chargeable weight, the greater of actual and volumetric weight. So we compress the packing as far as possible and take every gap out of the carton.
| Item | Air freight |
|---|---|
| Airport of departure | King Abdulaziz International Airport, Jeddah |
| Arrival airports | Houari Boumediene in Algiers, then Oran and Constantine depending on flights |
| Door-to-door time | 3–7 days |
| Price starts from | SAR 28 a kilogram, and documents from SAR 83 |
| What is not accepted | Flammable liquids, loose batteries, and perfumes in quantity |
Many returnees combine the two methods: two bags by air holding what the first weeks require, and the whole home by sea. Work out the volumetric weight with the volumetric weight calculator; service details are on the air freight page and in the article air freight office in Jeddah.
Collection from Jeddah’s districts and from Makkah and Taif
Collection from the door is part of the service in every district of Jeddah, from Obhur in the north to Al-Khumrah in the south. The difference between one district and another lies in organisation, not price: buildings without a lift need more workers or an outside hoist, the narrow streets of Al-Balad take a small vehicle that shuttles to the truck, and some residential compounds ask for an entry permit that we arrange before the appointment.
| Area | Districts and towns | Note |
|---|---|---|
| North Jeddah | Obhur, Ash-Shati, Al-Murjan, An-Naim, As-Safa, An-Nahdah, Az-Zahra, Ar-Rawdah, As-Salamah, Al-Muhammadiyah, Dhahban | Villas and compounds, and the container usually stands at the house |
| Central Jeddah | Al-Balad, Al-Aziziyah, Ar-Rihab, Mushrifah, Ash-Sharafiyah, Bani Malik, Ar-Ruwais, Al-Hamra, Al-Andalus, Al-Kandarah | Busy streets, so we load in the first hours of the morning |
| East and south Jeddah | An-Nasim, Al-Harazat, Briman, As-Samir, Al-Ajawid, Quwaizah, Al-Mahjar, As-Sanabil, Al-Khumrah | Closest to the port and the warehouse areas |
| Makkah | Al-Aziziyah, Ash-Shawqiyah, Al-Awali, Ash-Sharai and all other districts | About 80 km, and large trucks enter at regulated hours that tighten in the seasons |
| Taif | Taif, Al-Hada and Ash-Shafa | About 170 km, by an appointment set two days ahead |
| North of the region | Thuwal, King Abdullah Economic City, Rabigh and Khulais | Grouped with north Jeddah runs |
| Between Jeddah and Makkah | Bahrah and Al-Jumum | On the truck’s way to Makkah |
Send your location on WhatsApp with photos of the belongings, and we will fix the vehicle size, the number of workers and the arrival time. The other cities we serve are on the cities page.
Shipping steps from your door in Jeddah
- The request: a WhatsApp message to 0552803439 with a list or photos of the belongings, your district in Jeddah and the consignee’s province.
- The survey: for large shipments we visit the site, often the same day or the next because we are in the city. Photos are enough for small ones.
- Price and contract: you receive the itemised price, the arrival port and the expected time, then a contract that fixes all of it.
- Setting the date: we match loading day to the nearest sailing so the container does not wait in the yard.
- Dismantling, packing and inventory: the team works at your home, and you sign the inventory before the last carton is closed.
- Port and sailing: the container is sealed, the export declaration is completed, and you receive the bill of lading and tracking number.
- Clearance in Algeria: the file is sent to the agent while the ship is still at sea, so his work starts when it arrives.
- Delivery: a truck to the consignee’s door, a check against the inventory, assembly if you asked for it, then the signature of receipt.
Storage in Jeddah and complementary services
You may hand back your flat a week before the sailing date, or your goods may arrive from one supplier before the rest are complete. In both cases the shipment stays in our Jeddah warehouse packed, numbered and entered on a list, and leaves it for the port on the booking day. The warehouse is ventilated and monitored, and its floor is raised clear of damp. The terms of the service are on the storage page.
Alongside shipping there are services ordered when needed and priced separately:
- Washing and drying sofas and rugs before packing.
- A preventive spray for wood and upholstery against insects before long storage.
- Cleaning fridges, washing machines and air conditioners and drying them inside.
- Cleaning the flat after it is vacated so you hand it to the landlord and recover your deposit.
- Selling cartons, tape and bubble wrap to those who pack for themselves.
Tracking and insurance
With the bill of lading number you can see where the container is on the shipping line’s website, and we send you a WhatsApp update at every move: left your home, entered Jeddah port, sailed, passed Suez, reached the Algerian port, clearance started, out for delivery, delivered. If the ship is delayed or the line changes its route, you hear it from us before you ask. How tracking works is on the shipment tracking page.
Marine insurance is optional, and we recommend it for any shipment with appliances or valuable pieces. It is calculated on the value you declare in the list and covers the risks of carriage from Jeddah until delivery. With or without insurance, three papers stay with you as proof of your right: the contract, the inventory signed by both sides, and the photographs of valuable pieces before they were packed. The covers are explained on the cargo insurance page.
Shipping from Algeria to Jeddah
The service runs in the opposite direction too. Someone coming to Jeddah on an employment contract ships furniture or belongings from Algeria, and the Saudi trader imports dates, oils and food products from it. The shipment is collected from the address in Algeria and loaded at one of its ports for Jeddah Islamic Port, or sent by air to King Abdulaziz Airport. We then clear it in Jeddah and deliver it to the home or the warehouse. Whatever enters the Kingdom is subject to the conditions of Saudi customs and the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, so we review the item before it ships.
Tips for Jeddah residents before shipping day
- Unplug the fridge and the freezer a full day before loading, and leave them open until they dry.
- Do not wrap anything in the open air after sunset; coastal humidity is at its highest at night.
- Wash fabrics and rugs enough days ahead for them to dry completely.
- Set aside a room for what you will carry on the plane, and lock it on packing day.
- Keep your passport, documents, gold and cash in your hand luggage.
- Obtain the change of residence certificate before you set loading day, not after.
- Book four to six weeks ahead of summer and of Ramadan.
How do you choose a shipping company from Jeddah to Algeria?
The Jeddah market has serious companies, and it also has WhatsApp accounts with no trade name that offer the lowest price and then vanish. Before you hand your household furniture to anyone, ask these questions, and apply them to us before anyone else:
| What to ask about | Reassuring sign | Warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| Legal standing | A commercial register, an official website and an address in Jeddah | A mobile number and an advertising page only |
| Presence in the city | A team that surveys at your place and a warehouse you can visit | A middleman running the order by telephone from another city |
| The contract | Written, stating the services, the price and the time | A verbal agreement or a voice message |
| The price | Itemised: freight, clearance and delivery | A single figure with no telling where it ends |
| Limits of the service | Says plainly: to the port or to the door | Dodges the question |
| The inventory | A list of the pieces that you both sign | Collection with no list |
| Knowledge of Algeria | Asks about the province and the change of residence certificate | Says everything enters free of duty |
Common mistakes when shipping from Jeddah to Algeria
- Booking the ship before the change of residence certificate is issued, so the container arrives and the exemption is not ready.
- Buying a car and only afterwards asking about the age condition and the engine type.
- Wrapping belongings while they are damp, or in an open courtyard at night.
- Sending every shipment to the port of Algiers when the consignee is in Tlemcen or Tebessa.
- Putting Zamzam water or medicines without a prescription inside the cartons.
- Writing a vague inventory such as “household items” instead of naming the pieces and their number.
- Comparing two offers, one to the port and the other to the door, as if they were the same price.
Why Home Safe for shipping from Jeddah to Algeria?
Because we are in the city where the sea begins, and we work this route by both its methods. Behind every container is a team with defined roles: an adviser who asks before he prices, a supervisor who runs loading day, a carpenter and air-conditioning and electrical technicians, packers who know the coastal climate, a driver who knows the port gates, and a broker at the Algerian port. What we promise you is written in the contract, not said on the call.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Jeddah to Algeria
How much does shipping from Jeddah to Algeria cost?
The figure follows what you send. A carton in a shared container starts from SAR 140, a cubic metre from SAR 415 and a bedroom from SAR 1,650. Ocean freight for a 20ft container out of Jeddah port starts from SAR 4,600, and for a 40ft from SAR 5,200. A small car is from SAR 1,655 and an air kilogram from SAR 28. After that the arrival port, the province and the services you ask for adjust the price.
How long does shipping from Jeddah to Algeria take?
A full container normally arrives within 20 to 30 days, counted from your door in Jeddah to the consignee’s door. Shared freight takes 28 to 42 days because it waits for the container to fill. Air takes 3 to 7 days. These are approximate times that move with the sailing schedule and the speed of clearance at the Algerian port.
Is shipping from Jeddah faster and cheaper than from other Saudi cities?
Usually, yes. The port is inside Jeddah, so you pay no truck to cover hundreds of kilometres and lose no day or two on the way to it. A ship leaving it heads for the Suez Canal without sailing round the Arabian Peninsula. The difference shows in the inland haulage line and in the number of days before sailing.
How long does the ship sail from Jeddah port to Algiers port?
The sailing itself is between 12 and 20 days, depending on the shipping line and on whether the container changes vessel at a Mediterranean hub or not. Added to that is the time before the ship in Jeddah and after it in Algeria, which is why we give you the door-to-door time and not the sea time alone.
Can my shipment be routed to Oran or Annaba instead of Algiers?
Yes, whenever a suitable sailing to that port exists. Shipments for the western provinces go to Oran, those for the east to Annaba or Skikda, and anything for the Kabylie region to Bejaia. If the wait for one particular port is long, we offer you the port of Algiers with a road delivery, and you choose.
I am an Algerian Umrah pilgrim and my baggage is over the airline allowance. Will you ship it?
Yes. We come to your accommodation in Jeddah or your hotel in Makkah, weigh every piece in front of you and put a tag with your name on it, and you then travel with hand luggage. The baggage goes by sea if you are not in a hurry, or by air if you want it within days, and it is handed over at your address in Algeria.
Do you ship Zamzam water to Algeria?
No. Zamzam water is not accepted in commercial freight or in parcels; what is allowed is the dedicated pack that the traveller carries personally from the airport, as the airline decides. Dates, prayer rugs, prayer beads and perfumes we do ship.
What documents are needed to ship furniture from Jeddah to Algeria?
A copy of the owner’s passport and Saudi residence permit, a detailed inventory that we write during packing, and the details of whoever receives in Algeria with an address and telephone number. Anyone claiming the returnee exemption adds the change of residence certificate issued by the Algerian consulate. The bill of lading we issue ourselves after loading.
What is the change of residence certificate and who benefits from it?
A document the consulate grants to an Algerian registered with it who is returning for good, under which used furniture and belongings enter free of customs duty. The practice is that he has lived abroad for at least three consecutive years, has not used it before, and uses it within six months of issue. Conditions and ceilings change with the finance laws, so we go over the current ones with you before booking.
Can I ship a used car from Jeddah to Algeria?
You can, if the car meets the Algerian import rules at the time of shipping. The rule in circulation is that a resident of Algeria imports a car less than three years from its first registration, with a petrol, hybrid or electric engine, and that diesel is excluded. A returnee holding a change of residence certificate has other rules on engine size and age. Send us the car’s details before you pay for it.
Do you collect shipments from Makkah and Taif?
Yes. Makkah, Taif, Rabigh, Khulais, Bahrah, Al-Jumum and Thuwal are inside the collection area, by an appointment agreed a day or two ahead. Their shipments usually enter Jeddah port the same day, so the sailing date does not change for them.
How do you protect belongings from the humidity of Jeddah and of the sea?
With three things in order. First, appliances and fabrics are dried before they are covered. Second, packing in layers that suit each material, the last being a tight plastic wrap. Third, moisture-absorbing bags spread inside the cartons and in the corners of the container before it is sealed.
Is there land freight from Jeddah to Algeria?
We do not offer it. The overland road crosses several countries and borders and does not suit a regular service with a fixed date and price. The two practical alternatives are sea for furniture, cars and goods, and air for parcels and baggage that cannot wait.
Who pays customs duties in Algeria?
The consignee in Algeria settles them, according to the type and value of what is in the shipment. The clearing agent lodges the declaration, attends the inspection and gives him an estimate of the amount before payment. The holder of a change of residence certificate is exempt within what the certificate allows.
Do you ship from Algeria to Jeddah?
Yes. The parcel or furniture is collected from your address in Algeria and shipped by sea to Jeddah Islamic Port or by air to King Abdulaziz Airport, and we then deliver it to your home in Jeddah, Makkah or any city in the Kingdom.
