Who ships from Saudi Arabia to Algeria, and what do they ship?

Demand on this route comes from five clear groups. First are the Algerians working in the Kingdom, who go home with a whole household when their contracts end. Then come students after graduation, Umrah and Hajj pilgrims whose luggage exceeds the airline allowance, traders in both countries, and companies moving project equipment. Each group has a shipping method that serves it better than the others:

The shipper What they usually ship Best method
An Algerian family returning for good Household furniture, appliances and belongings A 20ft or 40ft container
A single employee or a student Books, clothes, a computer and a few cartons Groupage by the cubic metre
An Umrah or Hajj pilgrim Excess bags, dates and gifts Groupage, or air if it is urgent
A trader or importer Dates, perfumes, building materials and spare parts A full container or a part load
A car owner A car that meets the Algerian import conditions A private or shared container, or RoRo where a sailing exists
A company, factory or embassy Office furniture, equipment and machinery Containers under a contract and a schedule

Shipping methods from Saudi Arabia to Algeria: sea and air

Shipping to Algeria runs by two methods only: ship and aircraft. The two countries have no common border, and the overland road passes through Egypt and Libya and is not fit for a regular service, so we do not offer it. Trucks play a supporting part at both ends: they gather the shipment from Saudi cities to the port or airport, and distribute it in Algeria from the port to the provinces.

Comparison Sea freight Air freight
Cost The lowest per cubic metre The highest, charged by the kilogram
Door-to-door time 20–35 days for a full container 3–7 days
Suits Furniture, cars, cargo and quantities Documents, medicines, electronics and samples
Capacity 20ft and 40ft containers, with no practical limit Limited by the weights and dimensions of the aircraft hold
Point of departure Jeddah Islamic Port, or Dammam port Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam airports
Point of arrival The ports of Algiers, Oran, Annaba, Skikda and Bejaia Houari Boumediene Airport, and Oran and Constantine airports

You do not have to pick one method for everything you own. Many people returning home split their shipment: two suitcases with what they need in the first weeks travel by air, and the whole household follows in a container. That way you pay the air rate on a few kilograms only. The wider comparison is on the shipping methods comparison page.

Shipping time from Saudi Arabia to Algeria

The time depends first on the method, then on the sailing schedule and the speed of clearance at the Algerian port. The figures below run from the day of collection in the Kingdom to the day of delivery in Algeria, not the sailing days alone:

Service Approximate time Note
Full container 20–35 days From Jeddah and the western cities, with a day or two more from Riyadh and distant cities
Groupage part load 30–50 days Includes waiting for the shared container to fill and then sorting it
Car 28–42 days Depends on the container or RoRo vessel date and the traffic department procedures
Air freight 3–7 days Including clearance at the arrival airport

And this is how the days are spread over the journey of a full container leaving Jeddah, so that you see where the time goes:

Stage What happens Usual time
Collection Dismantling, packing, inventory and loading at your address One to two days
The road to the port A truck to the Jeddah quay Hours from Jeddah and Makkah, and one to two days from Riyadh and the Eastern Province
Export Export declaration and waiting for the booked vessel 2–5 days
Sailing The Red Sea, then Suez, then the western Mediterranean 12–22 days
Clearance in Algeria Declaration, inspection and duties or exemption 3–7 days if the file is complete
Delivery From the port to the consignee’s province One to 3 days

What makes it take longer?

  • Transhipment: some lines move the container to a second vessel at a Mediterranean hub port before Algeria.
  • Congested berths: Algerian ports get busy in certain seasons, so the vessel waits its turn.
  • An incomplete file: a change of residence certificate not yet issued, or a vague packing list.
  • Sailing from Dammam: it adds about a week, because the vessel goes round the Arabian Peninsula before the Red Sea.
  • The summer return season: demand rises for containers and customs brokers alike.

Times to the other destinations are on the transit times page.

Shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to Algeria

The price of shipping to Algeria is the sum of three items: transport inside the Kingdom to the port or airport, then the sea or air freight, then clearance and delivery in Algeria if you ask for them. So we give you starting figures for each type, then work out your shipment once we know its volume and its two cities. These are our starting figures:

What you ship Method Price starts from
Carton Sea groupage SAR 140
Cubic metre Shared container SAR 415
Small part load Minimum charge per shipment SAR 645
By the kilogram above 100 kg Groupage for luggage SAR 5.5 a kilogram
Bedroom Shared container SAR 1,650
Whole-home furniture 20ft container with collection and packing SAR 6,900
20ft container Ocean freight from Jeddah port SAR 4,600
40ft container Ocean freight from Jeddah port SAR 5,200
Small car Ocean freight to the Algerian port SAR 1,655
Four-wheel-drive car In a container with lashing and services SAR 7,820
Air freight By the kilogram above 100 kg SAR 28 a kilogram
Parcel up to 5 kg Air SAR 320
Documents Express SAR 83
Equipment and machinery Flat-rack or open-top container Set on request according to dimensions and weight

Prices quoted in the market on the Algeria route are higher than this table. The minimum for a part load is offered at SAR 700, and a kilogram of luggage at SAR 10. A bedroom with its belongings runs between SAR 2,500 and 4,500, and household furniture in a 20ft container between SAR 7,500 and 12,000. Car shipping is advertised from SAR 1,800, then becomes SAR 6,000 to 7,500 for a saloon in a shared container, and SAR 8,500 to 10,500 for a four-wheel drive in a private container. Container freight itself moves with the shipping lines, so the figure we fix for you is the figure on the booking day. Container rates are explained in the article container shipping prices from Jeddah.

Factor How it changes the price
Volume and weight By the cubic metre or container size at sea, and by actual or volumetric weight in the air. Estimate it with the volume calculator
Shipping method Sea is far cheaper, and air buys you time
Collection city Being close to Jeddah port shrinks the inland transport item
Delivery province Coastal provinces near the ports cost less than the high plateaux and the south
Type of contents Glass, antiques and delicate devices need wooden crates and insurance
Added services Dismantling, assembly, storage and reassembly in Algeria, all of them optional
Algerian duties Set by customs according to the item and its value, and not part of the freight charge

How do you lower the cost?

  • Sort your belongings before the survey. An old piece may be cheaper to sell in the Kingdom than to ship.
  • If your shipment is under 12 cubic metres a shared container is cheaper; above that, compare with the price of a 20ft container.
  • Share one container with colleagues who are also going home and split its freight, provided each of you has a separate list.
  • Book at least three weeks before the summer and the end of the school year.
  • Ask for the port nearest to the consignee’s province, since transport inside Algeria is charged by distance.

The pricing items are explained on the pricing factors page.

Shipping to Algeria from the cities of the Kingdom

We collect from every region of the Kingdom, and the sea shipment then heads to Jeddah Islamic Port because it is the Red Sea gateway closest to Suez. What changes from one city to another is the length of the road to the quay, and with it the inland transport item and a day or two in the transit time. Here is a summary for each city:

Collection city Port of departure Road to the port Airport for air freight Door-to-door time by sea
Jeddah Jeddah Islamic Port Inside the city King Abdulaziz 20–35 days
Makkah Jeddah Islamic Port About 80 km Jeddah airport 20–35 days
Madinah Jeddah, or Yanbu if a sailing is available About 420 km to Jeddah, and 220 km to Yanbu Madinah airport or via Jeddah 21–36 days
Taif Jeddah Islamic Port About 170 km Jeddah airport 20–35 days
Riyadh Jeddah by road, or Dammam through the dry port About 950 km to Jeddah King Khalid 22–37 days
Dammam, Khobar and Jubail Jeddah by road, or King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam About 1,350 km to Jeddah King Fahd 22–37 days via Jeddah
Qassim and Hail Jeddah Islamic Port About 900 km from Buraidah Riyadh or Jeddah airport 22–37 days
Tabuk Jeddah Islamic Port About 1,000 km Via Jeddah 22–37 days
Abha, Khamis Mushait and Jazan Jeddah Islamic Port About 700 km from Abha Via Jeddah 21–36 days

The starting price varies slightly between cities, since the western cities are closer to the quay than the central and eastern ones. This is where the price starts in the cities most in demand:

Collection city Bedroom in a shared container Small car, ocean freight Transport to the port
Riyadh From SAR 2,300 From SAR 1,655 One to two days by road
Jeddah From SAR 1,650 From SAR 1,655 Hours inside the city
Makkah and Taif From SAR 1,650 From SAR 1,655 Hours to Jeddah
Madinah From SAR 1,650 From SAR 1,655 Half a day to Jeddah
Dammam and Khobar From SAR 2,300 From SAR 1,655 Two days by road to Jeddah, or from Dammam port

Shipping from Riyadh to Algeria

Riyadh has no seaport, so its container travels to the sea first. The usual way is to load it at the house and truck it about 950 km to Jeddah port, which adds a day or two. The second option is the dry port in Riyadh, from which the container moves by rail to Dammam port, but a vessel from there goes round the Arabian Peninsula and the sea leg grows longer. Urgent parcels and luggage leave from King Khalid International Airport. We collect from every district of the capital and from Al-Kharj, Diriyah and Al-Muzahimiyah. The details and districts are in the article shipping company from Riyadh to Algeria.

Shipping from Jeddah, Makkah and Madinah to Algeria

Jeddah is the shortest road to Algeria, because the port and the airport are inside the city. A container loaded in the morning in one of Jeddah’s districts spends the night in the port yard, so inland transport falls to its minimum. From Jeddah we serve Makkah, Taif, Rabigh and the surrounding area. Makkah and Madinah have a shipment of their own kind: the luggage of Algerian Umrah and Hajj pilgrims, which we gather from hotels and lodgings before they fly. Entry of large trucks to the central area of both cities is limited to hours that tighten in Ramadan and Hajj, so we confirm the hours in force before loading day. Madinah also has Yanbu port about 220 km away when a suitable sailing is available there. The explanation is in the article shipping company from Jeddah to Algeria.

Shipping from Dammam, the Eastern Province and the other regions

An Eastern Province shipment has two roads, and we choose between them by calculation. The first is a truck to Jeddah port and then a vessel straight towards Suez. The second is King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, which is nearer to your home, but its vessel crosses the Strait of Hormuz, the Arabian Sea and Bab al-Mandab before entering the Red Sea. Heavy cargo that is not urgent may suit Dammam, while household furniture usually suits the Jeddah road. For staff of the oil and industrial companies in Jubail, Dhahran and Al-Ahsa we arrange the move of the whole residence around the final exit date. Air freight goes from King Fahd International Airport. Our service there is in the article international shipping company in Dammam.

The cities of Qassim, Hail, Tabuk, Al-Jawf, Asir, Jazan, Najran and Al-Baha are served in the same way: a crew packs at the address, and a closed truck takes the shipment to Jeddah for the vessel’s date. A small shipment is added to a consolidation run that passes through its city. The cities we reach are on the cities page.

Sea freight from Saudi Arabia to Algeria: a full or a shared container?

Sea freight from Saudi Arabia to Algeria

Sea freight is the first method on the Algeria route, and most furniture, cargo and cars travel by it. The container leaves Jeddah Islamic Port, passes through the Suez Canal, then heads west in the Mediterranean to the port of Algiers, Oran or Annaba. You have two systems: a full container for you alone, or space in a shared container that you pay for by the cubic metre.

Comparison Full container Shared container
What you pay for The whole container, 20ft or 40ft The cubic metres your belongings occupy
Time 20–35 days 30–50 days
Privacy Closed with a numbered seal in front of you, and the seal is opened at Algerian customs Your belongings travel with other shipments and are sorted at the arrival warehouse
Clearance One file in your name Tied to opening the container and sorting what is in it
Suits A whole home, wholesale goods, or a car with furniture One room, cartons, or a trader’s trial shipment
Price starts from SAR 4,600 ocean freight for a 20ft container SAR 415 a cubic metre

A 20ft container holds about 28 cubic metres, which is the furniture of a two- or three-bedroom flat. A 40ft container holds about 58 cubic metres, so it carries a large home or a car together with furniture. The journey to Algeria means weeks in damp sea air, so we place moisture-absorbing bags inside the container to protect wood, fabric and appliances. Dimensions are on the container sizes page, and the service on the sea freight page.

Algerian ports: which port suits your province?

Choosing the port starts from the consignee’s address, not from the ocean freight rate. The Algerian coast is long, and the distance between Oran in the west and Annaba in the east is more than 900 km by road. A container landed at a port far from your home pays the difference in inland transport. These are the ports that receive our shipments:

Port Location Serves
Port of Algiers The capital, middle of the coast Algiers, Blida, Boumerdes, Tipaza, Medea and Tizi Ouzou
Port of Oran The west Oran, Tlemcen, Sidi Bel Abbes, Mascara and Mostaganem
Port of Annaba The far east Annaba, Guelma, Souk Ahras, El Tarf and Tebessa
Port of Skikda The east Constantine, Batna, Oum El Bouaghi and Khenchela
Port of Bejaia East of the capital Bejaia, Setif, Bordj Bou Arreridj and the Kabylie region

Not every shipping line calls at every port, so we match the consignee’s province with the available sailing schedule and then name the port for you before loading. Southern provinces such as Ghardaia, Ouargla and Biskra are served by truck from the port of Algiers or Skikda, whichever is nearer. The ports we work from are on the ports and gateways page.

Shipping luggage and furniture from Saudi Arabia to Algeria

Shipping luggage and furniture from Saudi Arabia to Algeria

Household furniture and belongings are what we move to Algeria most, and shipping a bedroom starts from SAR 1,650 in a shared container. A family that has spent years in the Kingdom goes home with furniture it chose piece by piece and cannot find at the same price there. So we move bedrooms, Arabic majlis sets, sofas, dining tables, the kitchen with its appliances, carpets and mattresses, along with children’s toys and garden items.

The work starts with dismantling. The crew’s carpenter takes the bed and the wardrobe apart the way they were assembled at the factory, and puts each piece’s screws in a bag that carries its number and is fixed to it. A complicated piece is photographed before dismantling so that it goes back as it was. The electrician removes the air conditioner and the chandelier without damaging the wall. In Algeria our local partner can do the reassembly if you ask for it in the contract.

Then comes the lifting equipment. In tall buildings we lower large pieces with an outside hoist when the stairs or the lift are too narrow, and we carry heavy items on trolleys and padded straps. Inside the container the pieces are stacked up to the roof with no gap that would allow movement, strapped to the lashing points, and a numbered packing list is written for the consignee to check against when the container is opened. The furniture service is explained on the furniture shipping page.

Packing and stowing for a long sea voyage

Packing that is enough for a move within the city is not enough for a journey to Algeria. The shipment is lifted and lowered several times, shaken on land and at sea, and passes through the heat of Jeddah and then the damp of the Mediterranean. So each material has its own packing method:

Type of item Packing method
Wood and bedroom sets Corrugated board on the surfaces, corner guards, then stretch film that keeps out dust and moisture
Glass and mirrors Cardboard, then a wooden frame for large panes, loaded upright and never flat
Electrical appliances The fridge and washing machine are emptied, dried and their moving parts secured, then foam and thick carton
Carpets and soft furnishings Carpets are rolled into cylinders, and bedding goes into breathable bags so that it does not turn mouldy
Kitchenware Each glass piece is wrapped on its own, stacked upright with cardboard dividers, and the gaps are filled
Antiques and paintings A made-to-measure wooden crate lined with foam, marked with direction and fragile labels

The order of the container is part of the protection. Heavy items go at the bottom and along the sides, fragile ones at the top and away from the door, and the weight is spread along the length of the floor. The packing guide is on the packing guide page, and the securing methods on the packing and lashing page.

Returning for good and students: the change of residence certificate

An Algerian returning for good can bring in used furniture and belongings free of customs duty if he holds a change of residence certificate. It is issued by the Algerian mission he belongs to, which in the Kingdom means the embassy in Riyadh and the consulate general in Jeddah. This certificate is requested before shipping, not after, because clearance at the Algerian port rests on it. These are its conditions under the rules in force, and we confirm the current ones before shipping:

Item Rule in force
Consular registration The applicant must be registered with the consulate
Length of residence At least three unbroken years outside Algeria
Age Over 19 years
Number of uses Once only, and it is not granted to anyone who, or whose spouse, has already used it
Deadline for the move Within six months of the certificate’s date of issue
What it covers Used furniture and belongings, and a vehicle under special conditions, within a value ceiling set by the finance laws
The attached list A detailed inventory of the contents endorsed by the consulate

Our part is to prepare the inventory in the form submitted to the consulate, and to time the shipment so that it falls within the deadline. If you travel before your shipment, we store your belongings and ship them once the file is complete. The consulate is the reference for conditions and ceilings, so do not rely on what you heard from someone who went home years before you.

A student’s shipment is smaller: books, clothes, a computer and gifts. Groupage by the cubic metre or by the carton suits it, and a carton starts from SAR 140. If several colleagues going home share one container, each one’s share falls, provided every student’s belongings are kept apart with their own list and consignee name.

Shipping parcels, dates and gifts to Algeria

A small parcel is shipped to Algeria in two ways: in sea groupage if it can wait, or by air if it is urgent. A carton in groupage is from SAR 140, and an air parcel up to 5 kg from SAR 320. What Algerians carry most to their families is dates: Ajwa from Madinah, Sukkari from Qassim and Khalas from Al-Ahsa. They are shipped in their sealed original packs, away from the container wall that heats up, and with a moisture barrier.

Prayer rugs, prayer beads, oud, incense, abayas and Ramadan and Eid gifts are shipped with them. Liquid perfumes travel by sea in tight packing, and airlines restrict their quantities. We do not ship Zamzam water as cargo, since its export is not allowed except for the dedicated pack a traveller carries with him. Every parcel entering Algeria is examined by customs, and new items in it may attract duties that the consignee pays. The service is on the parcel shipping page.

Commercial shipping for companies and importers

Commercial importing into Algeria is tightly regulated, and the success of a shipment depends on what the importer does before sailing. Under the rules in force the importer must hold an Algerian commercial register that permits importing, and must open the bank domiciliation file for the invoice before the goods are shipped. Some items need a licence or a certificate of conformity. So we ask our commercial client to confirm his importer in writing before we book the container. We serve four groups:

  • The Saudi exporter: dates, permitted foodstuffs, perfumes, building materials, and packaged plastic and petrochemical products.
  • The Algerian importer: we collect his goods from the supplier in any Saudi city, prepare them, load them and ship them to the port or the warehouse.
  • The factory and the project: machinery, production lines and heavy equipment after a study of dimensions and weight, as on the heavy equipment shipping page.
  • Government bodies, embassies and exhibitions: office furniture and event fittings, with a schedule and official documents.

For those who ship regularly we arrange a recurring booking at a price agreed for the term of the contract, and storage for the goods until the container is full. Details are on the commercial shipping page.

Car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Algeria

A car is shipped to Algeria by sea, in a private or shared container, or on a roll-on roll-off vessel when a sailing to an Algerian port is available. Ocean freight for a small car starts from SAR 1,655. But the first question is not the price; it is whether Algerian customs will accept this car at all. The rules for importing vehicles into Algeria are strict, and they change from one finance law to the next.

Method How it is shipped Suits Price starts from
Private 20ft container The wheels are strapped down and chocked with timber, then the container is sealed A new car or a four-wheel drive SAR 7,820 for a four-wheel drive with services
Shared 40ft container Two or more cars for different customers, with the freight divided A saloon, and anyone not in a hurry Set on request according to the number of cars
40ft container with furniture The car on one side and the furniture on the other, with a partition between them Someone returning for good with car and home Set on request according to the load
Roll-on roll-off vessel The car is driven into the ship’s hold and lashed in place Running cars and large vehicles SAR 1,655 ocean freight

These are the entry conditions in force in Algeria, and we verify the current ones before you pay for the car:

Case Rule in force
A used car imported by a resident individual No more than three years old from first registration, and once every three years
Engine type Petrol, hybrid or electric; diesel is not on the permitted list
Condition of the car Roadworthy and free of major defects, and meeting safety and environmental standards
A returnee’s car under the change of residence certificate Subject to conditions on how new the vehicle is and its engine size, set by the text in force at the time of return
On the Saudi side Fines paid, plates surrendered, and the export certificate from the traffic department

And these are our steps for shipping a car:

  1. Verification: you send the model, the date of first registration and the engine type and size, and we match them with the Algerian conditions before any payment.
  2. Paperwork: a valid registration, the owner’s ID or an authorisation from him, then the export certificate. We guide you through it or complete it under authorisation.
  3. Collection and record: a carrier takes the car from your location, and we photograph its body, cabin and odometer.
  4. Preparation: little fuel in the tank, a leak check, the alarm disconnected, and anything loose secured.
  5. Loading at Jeddah port: into the container or onto the RoRo vessel, then the bill of lading is issued in your name.
  6. Clearance and delivery: our broker at the Algerian port follows the inspection and duties, and you receive your car checked against the photos.

A car leaving the Kingdom is sought after for a clear reason: a dry climate that keeps the body free of rust, and a wide market of dealerships, showrooms and auctions. A car on a RoRo vessel is not covered because it is driven into place, while in a container it is sealed off from the sea air altogether. The comparison is on the container car shipping and RoRo car shipping pages, and the general explanation in the article car shipping from Saudi Arabia.

Customs clearance and the documents required for shipping to Algeria

Clearance in Algeria is the stage where shipments stall if a paper is missing. A container waiting for a document at the port is charged demurrage every day, and the demurrage can exceed the freight. So we review the whole file before sailing, and a licensed broker follows it at the port of arrival. These are the documents for luggage and furniture:

Document Note
Passport Valid, with a copy in the shipment file
Saudi residence permit or final exit visa Proves the sender’s status and length of stay
Packing list Numbered and detailed, preferably in Arabic and French
Change of residence certificate For anyone claiming exemption on used furniture
Consignee’s details The name as on the national identity card, the address and the phone
Clearance authorisation For the customs broker at the port of arrival
Bill of lading We issue it at loading and send you a copy

A commercial shipment has a different file:

Document Note
Commercial invoice At the true value, and the bank domiciliation is opened on it
Packing list The number of packages, their weights and what is in each
Certificate of origin Attested by the chamber of commerce
Importer’s commercial register With his tax number in Algeria
Certificates of conformity or a health certificate For the items Algeria requires them for, such as food and appliances

A precise description in the list is what shortens the inspection days. “A carton of household items” is a description that invites questions, and “12 used ceramic plates” closes them. Value added tax in Algeria is 19% under the rules in force, and customs duties that vary by item are added to it. The paperwork is explained on the shipping documents page, and the service on the customs clearance page.

Prohibited and restricted items when shipping to Algeria

Some items are not shipped internationally at all, and some are restricted by Algeria under a licence. One offending item in a container stops the whole container for a search. So we go through the list with you before the first carton is closed:

Item Status
Gas cylinders, fuel, fireworks and pressurised spray cans Prohibited because they are flammable or explosive
Weapons, ammunition and toxic chemicals Prohibited
Narcotics and anything banned by the law of either country Prohibited

Delivery in Algiers, Oran, Constantine and the other provinces

Delivery in Algiers, Oran and Constantine

We deliver in Algeria in two stages: clearance at the port, then delivery by truck to the consignee’s address. Coastal provinces near the ports receive within a day of release, and the provinces of the high plateaux and the south within two to three days. These are the cities most in demand and the port each is served from:

City Nearest port Delivery after release
Algiers Port of Algiers The same day or the next, including Bab Ezzouar, Bordj El Kiffan and Baraki
Blida, Boumerdes and Tipaza Port of Algiers One day, with Blida about 50 km from the capital
Oran Port of Oran The same day or the next
Tlemcen, Sidi Bel Abbes and Mostaganem Port of Oran One day
Constantine Port of Skikda about 90 km away, or Annaba One day
Annaba Port of Annaba The same day or the next
Setif and Bordj Bou Arreridj Port of Bejaia, about 110 km from Setif One day
Tizi Ouzou and Bejaia Port of Bejaia or Algiers One day
Batna, Biskra and M’Sila Port of Skikda or Bejaia One to two days
Ghardaia, Ouargla and Laghouat Port of Algiers, with Ghardaia about 600 km from it Two to three days

If the consignee is in Oran in the west, do not land the shipment in the capital, as the two cities are about 415 km apart. Cities of the far south such as Adrar, Tamanrasset, Illizi and Tindouf are reached by prior arrangement and with a longer time. On delivery the consignee checks the pieces against the numbered list and signs, so delivery to elderly people and families in the inland provinces spares them the trip to the port.

Door-to-door shipping: what does it include?

Door to door means that one party carries the shipment from your address in the Kingdom to the consignee’s address in Algeria, so you visit no port and coordinate between no carrier and broker. It suits a family busy with travel arrangements, elderly people, and anyone leaving the Kingdom before the shipment sails. It includes:

  • A survey at home or by video call, then an itemised price.
  • Dismantling, packing, inventory and loading.
  • Transport to the port or airport and the Saudi export procedures.
  • The sea or air freight.
  • Clearance at the Algerian port or airport by a licensed broker.
  • Delivery to the province, unloading, and reassembly if you ask for it.

Algerian customs duties are not part of the service, as they are owed to the treasury and paid by the consignee as assessed by customs. The scope of the service is on the door-to-door shipping page.

Air freight from Saudi Arabia to Algeria

Air freight from Saudi Arabia to Algeria

Air freight gets a parcel or a suitcase to Algeria in 3 to 7 days, instead of the weeks of the sea. It starts from SAR 28 a kilogram for shipments above 100 kg, and from SAR 320 for a parcel up to 5 kg. The shipment leaves from King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah, King Khalid in Riyadh or King Fahd in Dammam, and arrives at Houari Boumediene Airport in the capital, and from there goes on to Oran and Constantine according to the flights available.

Item Detail
What it suits Documents, medicines with their prescription, electronics, spare parts, samples and urgent luggage
Time 3–7 days to the address
How it is charged The greater of actual weight and volumetric weight. Work it out with the volumetric weight calculator
A kilogram for shipments above 100 kg Starts from SAR 28
A parcel up to 5 kg Starts from SAR 320
Documents Start from SAR 83
What is not accepted by air Loose batteries, flammable liquids and perfumes in quantity

There is one worthwhile way to cut the air bill: shrink the volume. A half-empty carton is charged by its size, not its weight, so we repack the items into the smallest carton that holds them. Makkah has no airport, so its air shipment leaves from Jeddah airport. The service is on the air freight page.

Collection from the regions and cities of the Kingdom

We collect from the customer’s door in all the regions of the Kingdom, not from the big cities alone. Cities near Jeddah have daily visits, and the shipments of distant cities are gathered in scheduled runs towards the port. These are the regions and their main cities:

Region Cities we collect from Where it goes before sailing
Western Jeddah, Makkah, Madinah, Taif, Yanbu, Rabigh, Al-Lith and Al-Qunfudhah Jeddah port directly
Central Riyadh, Al-Kharj, Dawadmi, Majmaah, Zulfi, Shaqra and Wadi ad-Dawasir A truck to Jeddah, or the dry port
Eastern Dammam, Khobar, Dhahran, Jubail, Al-Ahsa, Qatif and Hafar Al-Batin Jeddah by road, or Dammam port
Qassim and the north Buraidah, Unaizah, Ar-Rass, Hail, Tabuk, Sakaka, Arar and Qurayyat A truck to Jeddah
Southern Abha, Khamis Mushait, Najran, Jazan, Bisha, Al-Baha and Sharurah A truck to Jeddah

If you do not find your city in the table, send your location to 0552803439, and we will tell you the nearest date the crew passes through.

Steps for shipping from Saudi Arabia to Algeria

  1. The request: you call or message us on 0552803439, and state what you are shipping, the collection city and the consignee’s province.
  2. Survey and price: we estimate the volume at home or from photos, and send the itemised price.
  3. The customs file: we review the change of residence certificate or the importer’s documents with you before setting a date.
  4. Date and contract: we agree on the loading day, and the contract states the scope of service and the expected time.
  5. Dismantling, packing and loading: at your address, with a numbered packing list signed by you.
  6. Export and sailing: the shipment enters Jeddah port or the airport, and you receive the bill of lading number.
  7. Clearance in Algeria: the broker files the declaration and attends the inspection until release.
  8. Delivery: a truck to the province, a check against the list, and the consignee’s signature.

Storage and complementary services

Storage solves the timing gap between leaving your home in the Kingdom and your house in Algeria being ready or your certificate being issued. The belongings enter the warehouse packed, numbered and inventoried, stay there for days or months, then go straight to the port without you having to attend. The warehouse is monitored, ventilated and protected from moisture and insects. Details are on the storage page.

Alongside shipping there are services that people returning home often ask for, all optional and written into the contract if you want them:

  • Cleaning and drying sofas and carpets before packing, so that moisture is not trapped for weeks in the container.
  • Treating wooden furniture with an insect-repellent product before long storage.
  • Cleaning the fridge, washing machine and air conditioner and drying them inside.
  • Cleaning the home after it is vacated so that it can be handed back to the landlord.
  • Selling cartons, tape and packing materials to those who pack their small items themselves.

All of this is carried out by a fixed crew: carpenters for dismantling and assembly, electricians and air-conditioning technicians, packers and loaders, long-distance drivers, and a field supervisor who checks the list before the container is closed.

Tracking, insurance and shipment guarantees

You know where your shipment is from three sources: our reference number from collection, the container and bill of lading numbers from sailing, and our messages at every stop. We write to you when packing is finished, when the container enters the port, when it sails, when it berths in Algeria, when clearance begins, and when the truck leaves for the province. Customer service answers from 7 am to 11 pm.

  • Self-tracking: the container number is enough to follow it on the shipping line’s website. The method is on the track your shipment page.
  • Contract and inventory: the contract sets the service, the price and the time, and the list signed by both sides is checked item by item on delivery.
  • Photo record: photos of valuable pieces before they are packed, and of the container after it is stowed and sealed.
  • Insurance: optional, with a premium that is a percentage of the declared value. We recommend it for a whole home, a car and appliances. It is explained on the cargo insurance page.

Shipping from Algeria to Saudi Arabia

The route works in the opposite direction as well. Our agent takes the shipment from the address or from the port in Algeria, it sails east to Suez and then south to Jeddah Islamic Port, and after clearance we carry it to any city in the Kingdom. What is shipped most in this direction is the luggage of Algerians coming to work, and exporters’ goods. Commercial imports into the Kingdom carry duties and value added tax according to the item, and some need a certificate of conformity, so we review that before shipping.

Tips before shipping to Algeria

  • Start the consulate file two months before you travel, since the certificate is what sets the shipping date.
  • Write the list yourself while we pack, as you know best what is in each carton.
  • Do not mix new boxed items with used ones, because customs treats new items as merchandise.
  • Give us three numbers: yours in the Kingdom, the consignee’s in Algeria, and a spare one.
  • Check the validity of your passport, residence permit and car papers before booking.
  • Compare offers by what they cover, not by their figures, and ask: is the price to the port or to the door?
  • Carry with you on the plane what you need for a month, as the container will not arrive before you.

How do you choose a shipping company from Saudi Arabia to Algeria?

A company fit for this route asks about your certificate and your province before it mentions a price. A middleman with no crew and no agent in Algeria promises you everything and then leaves you at the first question from customs. These signs tell the two apart:

What you ask about A reassuring sign A warning sign
Scope of service To the consignee’s door with clearance Responsibility ends at the arrival quay
Price Items set down in writing before loading A total that grows after the belongings are collected
Packing A method for each material and moisture protection One layer of film for everything
Algerian customs Asks about the change of residence certificate and bank domiciliation “Don’t worry, everything gets in”
Communication An update at each stop and a container number Silence after the transfer
Records A contract, a signed inventory and a commercial registration A verbal agreement and a personal account

Common mistakes when shipping from Saudi Arabia to Algeria

  • Shipping the furniture before the change of residence certificate is issued, so the container sits at the port at its owner’s expense.
  • Buying a car older than the permitted limit or with a diesel engine and only then asking about shipping it.
  • Sending commercial goods to an importer who has not opened the bank domiciliation.
  • Choosing the port of Algiers for a consignee in Tlemcen or Annaba because its ocean freight is lower.
  • Putting the passport or original academic certificates inside a carton in the container.
  • Home-style packing with no moisture protection for a journey that lasts weeks.
  • Leaving the booking to the last week before final exit at the height of summer.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Saudi Arabia to Algeria

How much does shipping from Saudi Arabia to Algeria cost?

Each kind of shipment has its own starting figure. A carton in groupage is from SAR 140, a cubic metre in a shared container from SAR 415, and a bedroom from SAR 1,650. Ocean freight for a 20ft container out of Jeddah port is from SAR 4,600, and for a 40ft from SAR 5,200. A small car is from SAR 1,655, and air freight from SAR 28 a kilogram. After that the figure is tuned by the collection city, the Algerian port and the volume you send.

How many days does a shipment take from Saudi Arabia to Algeria?

A full container takes 20 to 35 days from the sender’s door to the consignee’s door, and groupage 30 to 50 days because it waits for the shared container to fill. A car takes 28 to 42 days. Air freight takes 3 to 7 days including clearance.

Is there land freight from Saudi Arabia to Algeria?

We do not offer it. The two countries share no border, and the overland road crosses more than one state and does not run regularly. Our trucks work only at the two ends of the journey: from your home to the port or airport in the Kingdom, and from the Algerian port to the consignee’s address.

Which Saudi port does the container leave from for Algeria?

Jeddah Islamic Port for most shipments, because a vessel from there sails up the Red Sea to the Suez Canal with no detour. King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam is available for heavy Eastern Province cargo, with about one more week at sea.

Which Algerian port suits my shipment best?

The one closest to the consignee’s province. The port of Algiers for the centre, Oran for the west, Annaba and Skikda for Constantine and the eastern provinces, and Bejaia for Setif and the Kabylie region. We go through the sailing schedule with you before fixing the port.

What is the change of residence certificate, and does it exempt my furniture from duty?

It is a document issued by the Algerian consulate to a citizen returning for good, and it is the basis for claiming exemption on used furniture and belongings. Under the rules in force the holder must be registered with the consulate, must have lived abroad for at least three unbroken years, and must not have used it before. Conditions and ceilings change, so we check the current ones with the consulate before shipping.

Can I ship a used car from Saudi Arabia to Algeria?

It is restricted by strict Algerian conditions. Under the rules in force a used car is accepted for a resident individual if it is no more than three years old, has a petrol, hybrid or electric engine, and once every three years. Send us the model, the date of first registration and the engine type before you buy, so that we confirm the rule that applies.

What documents are needed to ship household furniture to Algeria?

The passport, the Saudi residence permit or the final exit visa, a detailed packing list, the change of residence certificate for anyone claiming exemption, and the consignee’s details in Algeria. We issue the bill of lading ourselves at loading.

Can I send just one carton or one suitcase?

Yes. A carton goes into groupage from SAR 140 if you are not in a hurry. If you want it within days, air is the way: a parcel up to 5 kg from SAR 320, and documents from SAR 83.

Who pays the customs duties in Algeria?

The consignee, and they are calculated on the type and value of the goods. Our broker at the port files the declaration, attends the inspection and tells the consignee the expected amount before payment. Used furniture belonging to someone returning for good is exempt when the change of residence file is complete.

Do you ship dates to Algeria?

Yes. Sealed cartons in their original packing travel with personal belongings in reasonable quantities. Commercial quantities need an importer registered in Algeria, a health certificate and a certificate of origin.

Do you collect from my city if it is far from Jeddah?

Yes. We collect from Riyadh, Dammam, Khobar, Qassim, Hail, Tabuk, Abha, Jazan, Najran and elsewhere. The shipment travels in a closed truck to Jeddah port, and an inland transport item is added to the price according to the distance.

Can I put belongings inside the car being shipped?

No. The cabin is handed over empty apart from the spare wheel and the car’s tool kit. Any extra items delay release in Algeria, and their place is a separate accompanying shipment with its own packing list.

Do Saudi electrical appliances work in Algeria?

Most of them do, since the voltage in both countries is close to 230 volts. The difference is in the frequency, which is 60 hertz in the Kingdom and 50 hertz in Algeria, and in the shape of the plug. So check the rating plate of the air conditioner and the washing machine before shipping them.

Do you ship from Algeria to Saudi Arabia?

Yes. Our agent takes the shipment at the Algerian port or airport, it arrives at Jeddah port or the destination airport, and then we clear it and deliver it to your city in the Kingdom.
