Who ships from Jeddah to Spain, and what do they send?

Demand on this line comes from different people, and each has a shipment unlike the next. Jeddah has Spanish engineers and technicians who worked on transport and energy projects and are going home with years of furniture. It has Saudi families who own a house on the Costa del Sol and furnish it from Jeddah. It has students of language, medicine or business in Madrid, Barcelona, Granada and Salamanca, traders sending dates and Saudi products, and Umrah pilgrims who live in Spain and want their purchases to arrive ahead of them. Each group has its own method and its own position before Spanish customs:

Shipper What they send Best method Position at Spanish customs
A Spaniard who has finished a contract in Jeddah Household furniture, appliances and books 20ft or 40ft container Change-of-residence relief with the consular certificate
A family moving to live or work Luggage and selected furniture Shared or private container The same relief after town-hall registration
Owner of a house on the Spanish coast Majlis seating, carpets, ornaments and furnishings Shared container to Algeciras or Valencia Duty and tax, as he is not relocating
A student at a Spanish university Clothes, books and room items Cartons by sea and a suitcase by air Relief for study items, on its conditions
A pilgrim or visitor resident in Spain Dates, gifts and clothes Air parcel or sea carton Treated as a parcel at its value
A trader or exporter Dates, food products and samples Container or air pallet Import declaration in the importer’s name
A car owner A family or luxury car RoRo or container Relieved for a relocating owner, otherwise duty and taxes

Shipping services from Jeddah to Spain for individuals and companies

The service is not just carriage between two ports. We start at the door of the home or warehouse in Jeddah and finish at the consignee’s door in the Spanish city, and between the two points lie packing, paperwork and clearance in two countries. Anyone who has a broker in Spain may take the sea leg alone from us.

  • Sea freight: a private 20ft or 40ft container, or space in a shared container, and RoRo for cars.
  • Air freight: parcels, documents, luggage and samples from King Abdulaziz Airport to Madrid and Barcelona.
  • Combined sea and air shipping: the urgent part of your shipment flies and the rest sails, under one file and one follow-up.
  • Packing: dismantling the furniture, wrapping it, numbering it and writing the inventory list in your home.
  • Clearance: the export declaration in Jeddah, and a customs agent handling the import declaration in Spain.
  • For individuals: people relocating, students, families and pilgrims, with shipments starting from a single envelope.
  • For companies: containers of goods, pallets, samples and exhibition materials, with full commercial invoices and documents.

The list of what we offer is on the shipping services page.

The route from Jeddah to Spain and how long it takes

Spain is among the western European countries nearest to Jeddah by sea. The vessel heads north up the Red Sea, passes through the Suez Canal, then crosses the Mediterranean from east to west as far as the Spanish coast. The time that matters to you is not the sailing days alone but the span between your belongings leaving your home in Jeddah and entering your home there:

Stage Where it happens Usual time What happens
Packing and loading Your home in Jeddah 1–2 days Dismantling, wrapping, numbering and inventory
Export Jeddah Islamic Port 2–4 days Export declaration and waiting for the vessel
Sailing Red Sea, Suez, then the Mediterranean 9–14 days A direct sailing or a change of vessel
Clearance The Spanish port 3–6 days Import declaration and the relief request or payment of what is due
Delivery From the port to your city 1–4 days Lorry, unloading and reassembly

Some sailings to the western Mediterranean call at an intermediate port where the container moves to a second vessel, which adds days. So we promise no date before we have seen the shipping line’s schedule for the week of shipment, and then we write the expected date in the booking confirmation. These are the door-to-door times of all the methods:

Method Door-to-door time Suits
Private container to Valencia 20–30 days A whole home, or furniture with a car
Private container to Barcelona or Algeciras 22–32 days Catalonia and the north, or Andalusia
Shared container Some days more while it is consolidated A room or two and cartons
RoRo for cars 20–30 days A running car
Air freight 3–6 days Parcels and urgent luggage
Express documents and parcels 2–4 working days Papers and small gifts

What lengthens the transit time?

  • Waiting for consolidation: a shared container is not closed until it is full.
  • Relief papers: the town-hall registration or proof of previous residence is not ready when the container lands.
  • A list not in Spanish: the broker sends it back for translation before lodging the declaration.
  • Customs examination: selection of the container for physical inspection adds days.
  • August: the holiday season in Spain, when offices work more slowly.
  • The islands: the Balearics and the Canaries need a second leg after the mainland.

Times for other destinations are on the transit times page.

Sea container shipping from Jeddah to Valencia, Barcelona and Algeciras

The container is the first choice for anything bulky: the furniture of a home, a trader’s goods, or a car with luggage. A 20ft or 40ft container is loaded outside your home or in our warehouse and closed with a numbered seal, then it enters Jeddah Islamic Port and sails. The Spanish coast has three large container ports on the Mediterranean and the Strait of Gibraltar, and each serves its own region. So the choice of port starts from your address, not from the name of the famous city.

Sea container shipping from Jeddah to Valencia, Barcelona and Algeciras in Spain
Arrival port Sailing time from Jeddah Door to door Cities it serves
Valencia 9–13 days 20–30 days Madrid, Valencia, Alicante, Murcia, Toledo
Barcelona 10–14 days 22–32 days Barcelona, Girona, Tarragona, Zaragoza
Algeciras 10–14 days 22–32 days Seville, Malaga, Marbella, Cordoba, Granada, Cadiz

Valencia is the large port nearest the capital, with about 360 kilometres of motorway between them, which is why most Madrid containers are landed there. Barcelona is a port inside the city, so anyone living there receives with hardly any road haulage. Algeciras lies in the far south at the strait and suits those whose home is in Andalusia, since shipping to Barcelona with an address in Malaga adds about a thousand kilometres of road for no reason. Container dimensions and capacities are on the container sizes page, and the method is explained on the sea freight page.

Shipping prices from Jeddah to Spain

There is no single price for this line, because the calculation differs from one method to another: the aircraft charges by the kilogram, the shared container by the cubic metre, the private container at a flat rate, and the car by its dimensions. The figures below are the starting prices of our services, and the itemised price of your shipment reaches you once you send what you are shipping and your Spanish city to 0552803439.

Service Price
Express documents up to one kilogram Starts from SAR 83
Express parcel up to 5 kilograms Starts from SAR 110
Air freight, per kilogram Starts from SAR 23
Furniture and luggage in a shared container Starts from SAR 5,500
Private container for a whole home Starts from SAR 11,000
Saloon car by RoRo Starts from SAR 2,800
Each extra cubic metre in the shared container Set on request
Delivery to the Balearic and Canary Islands Set on request
Insurance on the shipment A percentage of the value, set on request

Prices quoted in the market: few offices publish a figure for this particular line, and most pages only mention the factors that set the price. International shipping guides publish a port-to-port sea fare of USD 600 to 1,500 for a 20ft container, about SAR 2,250 to 5,600, and USD 100 to 250 per cubic metre for shared shipping. For air they mention USD 3.5 to 8 per kilogram, about SAR 13 to 30. On European booking platforms an express envelope starts from about 32 euros and a parcel from about 59 euros before tax. A bare sea fare covers neither packing nor clearance nor delivery, so do not compare it with a door-to-door price.

What sets the price Its effect
Volume in cubic metres The basis for a shared container, and it decides the size of a private one
Chargeable weight The basis for air freight; the greater of actual and volumetric weight is taken
Arrival port The port with a direct sailing in your week has the lower fare
The Spanish city Every hundred kilometres beyond the port raises the lorry charge
Level of service To the port is cheaper than door to door
The home there A high floor without a lift or a narrow street needs a hoist or a small vehicle
Season Before summer, demand rises from people relocating and owners of summer homes

How do you lower the cost?

  • Ship to the port nearest your address, even if its name is less famous.
  • Dismantle beds, wardrobes and tables, as a dismantled piece takes half the space.
  • Leave old large appliances behind, since buying a replacement in Spain costs less than shipping them.
  • Prepare the relief papers before sailing, because every day of waiting at the port carries a storage charge.
  • Book weeks before the summer season, not at its peak.
  • Work out the volume before you call with the CBM calculator.

All the factors are explained on the pricing factors page.

What sets shipping from Jeddah apart?

Jeddah is the best point of departure in the Kingdom for Spain. Its port is on the Red Sea, on the direct route to the Suez Canal, so the container does not cross the Kingdom by road before it sails. The port and the airport are inside the city, so the container is loaded outside your home in the morning and passes the port gate the same day, and no intercity haulage is added to your price as it is for someone shipping from Riyadh or Dammam.

The city also has conditions around which we plan the loading day. The movement of large lorries inside Jeddah is restricted to hours set by the traffic department, so we confirm the hours in force before the appointment and book the container to fit them. The lanes of Al-Balad and some old districts cannot take a container lorry, so we move the belongings by a small vehicle to the loading point. In the Hajj and Ramadan seasons the port, the airport and the roads are crowded, so anyone travelling in the season should book early. More about the city is in the article on international shipping companies in Jeddah.

Shipping furniture and household goods from Jeddah to Spain

Household furniture is what is asked for most on this line, and it needs the most preparation. A piece will be loaded in Jeddah, sail for two weeks, be landed at a port, then travel hundreds of kilometres on a lorry before it is carried up the stairs of a Spanish home. So the work starts with three steps in your home: dismantling, wrapping and numbering. The team dismantles beds, wardrobes and tables, wraps each piece in what suits it, and sticks on every piece and carton a number that matches a line in the inventory list.

Shipping furniture and household goods from Jeddah to Spain
Item How it is prepared What is written in the inventory list
Bedrooms and wardrobes Dismantled, with the screws collected in a bag taped to the piece Name of the piece and number of parts
Sofas and majlis seating Blankets, then stretch film, with protection for the legs Number of seats and colour
Tables, glass and mirrors Corrugated card and corner guards, and a wooden crate for large glass Size and the word “fragile”
Fridge, washing machine and oven Dried, moving parts secured and the door taped shut Type and brand
Screens and electronics The original box if available, or a foam-lined carton Brand and size
Carpets Cleaned and rolled, with moisture-absorbing sachets Size and type
Cartons of clothes, books and kitchenware Five-ply carton weighing no more than one person can carry Contents of each carton, item by item

The numbered inventory list is not an internal sheet. It is the document the broker presents to Spanish customs, written in Spanish with an approximate value for each line. The consignee signs against it on delivery after checking the numbers. That is why we write it in the home during packing, not from memory after the container is closed. Packing methods are in the packing guide, and the service is on the furniture shipping page.

Change-of-residence relief: when does furniture enter free of duty?

Anyone moving their normal place of residence to Spain brings in used household belongings with no customs duty and no value added tax. That saves a family a sum that may exceed the freight charge itself. The rule is European and Spanish customs apply it on conditions; what we state is what is currently applied, and we confirm what is in force for your case before shipping:

  • Previous residence: at least twelve continuous months outside the European Union.
  • Ownership and use: the belongings must be yours and in your use for six months before the move.
  • Time limit: the belongings enter within twelve months of the date of your move.
  • Restriction on disposal: they may not be sold or hired out for a year after entry.
  • Town-hall registration: a certificate registering your home with the town hall of the Spanish city.
  • Proof of residence in the Kingdom: a Spanish citizen brings the certificate of deregistration from the Spanish consulate, and others present their Saudi residence permit and proof of its duration.

The consular certificate is requested while you are still in the Kingdom, and anyone who travels without it struggles to replace it from there. Someone whose Spanish home is not yet ready can delay the sailing and store the shipment with us until the registration is issued.

A private container or a shared container?

Volume settles the question first, then the date. Whoever fills a container or comes close takes it alone, so it is sealed at the door and opened only at the consignee’s. Whoever has a room or two shares a container with others, pays for their own space only and waits for it to fill. The table sets the three options side by side:

Point of comparison Shared container 20ft container 40ft container
Suitable volume Up to 15 m³ 15–28 m³ 30–60 m³
Example A student’s luggage, or a room and cartons A flat of two or three rooms A villa, or a home with a car
How it is charged By the cubic metre A price per container A price per container
Handling Passes through two warehouses for consolidation and breakdown From your door to the consignee’s door From your door to the consignee’s door
Transit time Some days longer Shortest Shortest
Starting price SAR 5,500 SAR 11,000 Set on request

Combined shipping: part flies and part sails

Many people relocating do not need one method but both together. The family reaches Madrid by air, and the container arrives three or four weeks later. In that time the family needs the season’s clothes, basic kitchenware, school papers and the work computer. So we split the shipment from the first day: a few cartons are marked “air” and leave from King Abdulaziz Airport, and the rest goes into the container.

  • What flies: two weeks of clothes, medicines with their prescription, official papers, and work and study devices.
  • What sails: furniture, household appliances, books, carpets and the clothes for the other seasons.
  • Two lists: one for the air shipment and one for the sea shipment, so the two declarations are not confused at customs.
  • One relief: both shipments enter under the same change-of-residence request if lodged within its time limit.

Shipping parcels, gifts and the luggage of students and pilgrims

Not everyone who contacts us is moving a home. Many have a carton of dates for a brother in Barcelona, two suitcases for a son studying in Granada, or Umrah purchases that the ticket allowance cannot take. These small shipments have two paths: the express service for an envelope or a light parcel, delivered by hand within 2 to 4 working days, and a sea carton in a shared container for anyone not in a hurry.

  • Documents: contracts, certificates, powers of attorney and university admission papers, from SAR 83 up to one kilogram.
  • Small parcel: a gift, clothes or a box of dates, from SAR 110 up to 5 kilograms.
  • A student’s luggage: used books and clothes are relieved on conditions, and the admission or enrolment letter is requested.
  • A pilgrim’s luggage: we collect it from the hotel in Jeddah or Makkah before travel, and Zamzam water is not shipped as cargo.
  • A gift: one sent from one private person to another is relieved under current practice up to a value of 45 euros, and above that tax applies.

The consignee’s details are part of the parcel: the name as on the identity document, the foreigner identification number or Spanish identity number, the Spanish mobile number, and the five-digit postcode. The broker there will not release a parcel without its owner’s identity number. Details of the service are on the parcel shipping page.

Shipping commercial goods from Jeddah to Spain

A commercial shipment differs from personal effects in the paperwork, not in the route. It sails on the same vessel to Valencia, Barcelona or Algeciras, but it enters under an import declaration in the name of a Spanish company, with duties that follow the European tariff heading of each product. Spain is a member of the European Union, so goods cleared there then move on to the other member states with no second customs.

  • What leaves Jeddah: dates and food products, plastics and raw materials, textiles, samples and spare parts.
  • Importer number: before the vessel berths, the buyer in Spain must already hold the customs identification number the European Union issues to traders.
  • Documents: commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading and certificate of origin.
  • Conformity: appliances, toys and cosmetics have European requirements and a conformity mark.
  • Foodstuffs: a label in Spanish, and health certificates for the plant products that require them.

A trader whose goods do not fill a container ships by the cubic metre or by the pallet, and an urgent sample goes ahead of the container by air. Details are on the commercial shipping page.

Car shipping from Jeddah to Spain

A car leaves Jeddah Islamic Port in one of two ways. By RoRo, a port worker drives it up the vessel’s ramp to the vehicle deck, where it is lashed by its wheels and stays uncovered until it comes off in Barcelona or Valencia, and the fare for a saloon starts from SAR 2,800. In a container it is secured with straps over the tyres inside a sealed box, which is the route for a luxury, classic or non-running car, and its price is set on request.

  • Before shipping: any traffic fines are paid off, the plates are handed in, and the traffic department issues the certificate that lets the car be exported.
  • At the Spanish port: 10% customs duty and 21% value added tax for anyone not relieved.
  • Before the plates: a registration tax calculated on emissions, and individual approval and a technical inspection for a Gulf-specification car.
  • Relocating owners: the car enters with their belongings free of duty if owned for six months and the relief conditions are met.

The freight charge is the smallest item in the sum for anyone not relieved, so we work out the duties and the approval with you before you book. All of this is explained with figures in the article on car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Spain, and the two methods are on the RoRo shipping and container car shipping pages.

Spanish customs and the documents required

Every shipment entering Spain from the Kingdom has an electronic declaration lodged for it, whatever its size. The papers differ with the shipper’s status and the kind of goods. We ask you for copies before packing and review them with the Spanish agent, because a missing paper is discovered at the port after the storage charge has begun:

Type of shipment From the shipper in Jeddah What is needed in Spain
Furniture and effects of someone relocating Passport, proof of residence in the Kingdom, and the inventory list Foreigner identification number, town-hall registration, and the relief request
A student’s luggage Passport and contents list Admission or enrolment letter, and the home address
A parcel or gift Identity document, and a statement of contents and value The consignee’s identity number and mobile
Commercial goods Commercial registration, invoice, packing list and certificate of origin The importer’s European customs number, and licences for the product
A car Registration card, export certificate and purchase invoice Foreigner identification number, and the car’s technical specifications

What is paid is governed by European Union rules and Spanish tax. Some of these rules are amended from time to time, so the table shows current practice and we confirm what is in force before shipping:

Item Rule currently applied
Effects of someone transferring residence Relieved of duty and tax on the relief conditions
A student’s used items Relieved with proof of enrolment
Documents No duty and no tax
A gift from one private person to another Relieved up to 45 euros, unpaid and occasional
Value added tax 21% in most cases, calculated on the value plus the freight charge
Customs duty According to the tariff heading of each product
Low-value parcels Their European exemption has been amended; we confirm what is in force before shipping
The Canaries, Ceuta and Melilla Outside the European tax area, with a local tax and a special procedure

Each paper is explained on the shipping documents page, and the release steps on the customs clearance page.

What cannot be shipped to Spain or needs a permit

Prohibition comes from two sides: Saudi customs on export, and European Union rules on entry. What is confiscated most from family shipments is not anything dangerous but food placed among the kitchenware in good faith. So we go through the cartons with you during packing and take out what will not pass:

Item Ruling
Meat, dairy, ghee and cheese Prohibited in personal effects and parcels
Plants, seeds and soil With a plant-health certificate
Medicines A personal quantity with a prescription
Counterfeit goods Confiscated, and the consignee may be fined
Antiques and archaeological pieces To be declared, and may need an export permit
Products of protected animals, such as ivory and some skins Prohibited without an international certificate
Perfumes, batteries and aerosols Restricted by air, and shipped by sea with a declaration
Weapons and ammunition Prohibited without a licence
Zamzam water Not shipped as cargo

The general list is on the prohibited items page.

Delivering shipments from Jeddah in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville and Malaga

Spain is a large country, and the distance between the port and the home is a visible item in the price and the time. After release, the container is loaded onto a lorry to your city, where the agent’s team unloads the belongings and carries them to the flat, reassembles what was dismantled in Jeddah if you ask for it, and takes the packing materials away. These five cities receive most of what we ship:

Delivering shipments from Jeddah in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville and Malaga
City Arrival port Road distance Served with it
Madrid Valencia About 360 km Toledo, Guadalajara, Alcala
Barcelona Barcelona Inside the city Girona, Tarragona, Sitges
Valencia Valencia Inside the city Alicante, Murcia, Castellon
Seville Algeciras About 190 km Cordoba, Cadiz, Huelva
Malaga Algeciras About 135 km Marbella, Granada, Torremolinos
Zaragoza, Bilbao and the north Barcelona 310–610 km Pamplona, San Sebastian

Unloading in Spanish cities has its own features. Many blocks have small lifts and narrow stairs, so large pieces are raised to the balcony by an external hoist. The old central quarters of Seville, Toledo and Cordoba cannot take a large lorry, so the belongings are moved by a small vehicle from the nearest point. A permit from the town hall may be needed to reserve the lorry’s parking space outside the block. So mention the floor, the lift and the kind of street when you book, so that it is in the price from the start. Details of the service are on the door to door page.

Air freight from Jeddah to Spain

The aircraft is the route for what cannot wait three weeks: parcels, urgent luggage, documents and samples. The shipment is collected from your address, weighed and screened at the cargo building of King Abdulaziz Airport, then loaded for Madrid or Barcelona directly or through an intermediate airport, depending on the space available. Delivery in Madrid and Barcelona is within 3 to 5 days door to door, and in the other cities within 4 to 6 days.

Air freight from Jeddah to Spain
Air shipment Transit time Price
Documents up to one kilogram 2–4 working days Starts from SAR 83
Parcel up to 5 kilograms 2–4 working days Starts from SAR 110
Luggage and general shipments, per kilogram 3–6 days Starts from SAR 23
100 kilograms and above 3–6 days Less per kilogram, set on request

The charge is on the chargeable weight: the scale weight is compared with the volumetric weight worked out from the carton’s dimensions, and the greater is taken. An example at the starting price: luggage with a chargeable weight of 50 kilograms starts from SAR 1,150. Try your shipment’s dimensions in the volumetric weight calculator. Everything about this method, from weight bands to customs on parcels, is in the article on air freight from Jeddah to Spain, and our service in the city is in the article on the air freight office in Jeddah.

Air or sea, and is there land freight to Spain?

We do not offer a land route between the Kingdom and Spain. A lorry would have to cross many countries and a sea, and what it saves does not equal what it adds in time and paperwork. So the choice is between the vessel and the aircraft alone, and two questions settle it: how big is the shipment, and when must it arrive?

Point of comparison Sea Air
Door-to-door time 20–32 days 3–6 days
Suits Furniture, cars and heavy goods Parcels, urgent luggage and samples
How it is charged By the cubic metre or by the container By the kilogram on chargeable weight
Restrictions More accepting of liquids and batteries Stricter, and every piece is X-rayed
Starting price SAR 5,500 for the shared container SAR 23 per kilogram

The working rule is that anything under a few hundred kilograms is worth pricing by air, and anything above that sails. The full comparison of methods is on the shipping methods comparison page.

Collection from Jeddah’s districts and nearby towns

We come to your home, office or warehouse in any district of Jeddah. For furniture we send a packing team and a lorry, and for a few cartons a courier in a small vehicle. Before the appointment we ask about the floor, the lift and where the lorry can stand, because a container needs space outside the home that not every street offers. Nearby towns are served by a trip arranged according to the quantity:

Area Districts and sites How we collect
North Jeddah Obhur, Ash-Shati, Al-Muhammadiyah, An-Naim, Az-Zahra, Al-Basatin Container outside the home, or a closed lorry
Central Jeddah Ar-Rawdah, As-Salamah, Al-Hamra, Al-Andalus, Al-Khalidiyah, As-Safa Closed lorry to the loading warehouse
East and south Jeddah As-Samir, Al-Marwah, Al-Jamiah, As-Sanabil, Al-Khumrah Closed lorry, and a container for goods from warehouses
Al-Balad and the old districts Lanes that no lorry can enter Small vehicle to the loading point
Makkah and Taif Residential districts and hotels By appointment within a day or two
Rabigh, Thuwal, Bahrah and Khulais Homes and company sites By prior arrangement according to quantity

The cities we collect from are on the cities page.

Steps for shipping from Jeddah to Spain

  1. Contact: you send to 0552803439 what you are shipping, your Spanish city and your travel date.
  2. Survey: we visit the home or estimate the volume from photos and a video clip, and propose the method and the port.
  3. Price: it reaches you itemised, stating what it covers and what it does not.
  4. Paperwork review: we establish your position before Spanish customs and give you the list of documents.
  5. Packing and inventory: dismantling, wrapping and numbering, and a numbered inventory list written in the home.
  6. Loading and export: a container to Jeddah Islamic Port or a shipment to the airport, with an export declaration and a tracking number.
  7. Clearance in Spain: the agent lodges the declaration and the relief request, and tells you what is due, if anything.
  8. Delivery: a lorry to your address, unloading and reassembly, and a signature after checking the numbers against the list.

Storage, tracking and insurance

A customer may hand over the home in Jeddah before the Spanish home or the town-hall registration is ready. In that case we keep the shipment wrapped and inventoried in a closed warehouse in Jeddah and load it when the date is set. The terms of the service are on the storage page.

After sailing you follow the container by its number or by the bill of lading number on the shipping line’s website, and an air shipment by its air waybill number. We also message you on WhatsApp at each point: entry to the port, sailing, the Suez Canal transit, berthing, release and the lorry appointment. Insurance is optional and calculated as a percentage of the value written in the inventory list, and its terms and exclusions are stated in its policy and in the booking confirmation. Details are on the shipment tracking and cargo insurance pages.

Shipping from Spain to Jeddah

The line works in both directions. Anyone fitting out a home, restaurant or showroom in Jeddah buys tiles, ceramics, marble, furniture and lighting from Spain, and a trader buys olive oil, foodstuffs, fashion and leather goods. Our agent collects from the factory or shop in the Spanish city, consolidates the purchases of several suppliers in one warehouse, then ships them in a container from Valencia or Barcelona to Jeddah Islamic Port. Urgent items come by air to King Abdulaziz Airport.

  • At Saudi customs: a duty according to the category, and 15% value added tax.
  • Conformity: products subject to technical regulations need a Saudi conformity certificate before shipping.
  • A car: it is subject to Saudi import conditions on age and specifications, so ask before you buy it.

Tips before shipping from Jeddah to Spain

  • Request the consular certificate or prepare proof of your residence before you leave the Kingdom.
  • Time the sailing so the container lands after your town-hall registration, not before it.
  • Measure the door, stairs and lift of the Spanish flat before you ship the large wardrobe.
  • Write a realistic value for each line in the list, as it is the basis for insurance and clearance.
  • Take animal-based food out of the kitchen cartons before they are closed.

How do you choose who ships for you from Jeddah to Spain?

Price alone is not enough to judge by. A company that does not know the line gives you a low figure, then your container stands in the Spanish port for a paper nobody asked you about. The difference shows before you pay, in the questions put to you and in what is written for you:

What you ask about A reassuring sign A worrying sign
Legal standing Commercial registration and a receipt in the establishment’s name A transfer to a personal account with no receipt
Arrival port Asks about your city, then names the port “Barcelona” for every customer
Relief Asks how long you have lived here and about town-hall registration “Used goods carry no customs”
Delivery Asks about the floor, the lift and the street “We deliver to Spain” with nothing specific
Price Itemised, with what the price does not cover A single figure over the phone
Transit time Separates sailing days from the time to the door “Two weeks and it is there”

Common mistakes when shipping from Jeddah to Spain

  • Leaving the Kingdom without the consular certificate or proof of the length of residence.
  • Shipping to Barcelona when the home is in Malaga or Seville.
  • The container landing before the foreigner identification number or the town-hall registration is issued.
  • Writing “household goods” in the list instead of naming what is in each carton.
  • Placing new furniture with its invoices among the relieved effects.
  • Shipping large appliances without checking that they run on 50 hertz.
  • Comparing a price to the port with a price to the front door as if they were one service.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Jeddah to Spain

How much does shipping from Jeddah to Spain cost?

The price follows what is in the shipment and the way it travels. An envelope of papers on the express service starts from SAR 83, a parcel of no more than 5 kilograms from SAR 110, and an air-freight kilogram from SAR 23. By sea, furniture in a shared container starts from SAR 5,500, a container for a whole home from SAR 11,000, and a saloon car by RoRo from SAR 2,800.

How long does a shipment take from Jeddah to Spain?

The vessel sails from Jeddah Islamic Port to the Spanish coast in 9 to 14 days. Once the days for packing, the export declaration, clearance and inland haulage are added, the time comes to 20–30 days for anyone receiving through Valencia, and 22–32 days through Barcelona or Algeciras. An air parcel reaches Madrid or Barcelona in 3 to 6 days.

Which Spanish port should I choose for my container?

Choose the port nearest your home, not the best-known name. Valencia serves Madrid, the centre of the country and the Alicante and Murcia coast. Barcelona serves Catalonia, Zaragoza and the north-east. Algeciras serves Seville, Malaga, Marbella, Cordoba and Granada.

Will I pay customs on my used household furniture in Spain?

Someone transferring their residence pays neither duty nor tax on used belongings when the conditions currently applied are met: twelve months of living outside the European Union, belongings owned and used for six months, entry within a year of the move, and registration with the Spanish town hall. Anyone outside those conditions pays the duty for the item and 21% value added tax. We review your position before we book.

Which papers does the Spanish broker ask for with personal effects?

The passport, the foreigner identification number or Spanish identity card, proof that you lived outside the European Union for a year or more, the registration certificate from the town hall of your new city, and a detailed contents list in Spanish with an approximate value for each line. A returning Spanish citizen brings the certificate of deregistration from the Spanish consulate in the Kingdom.

Do you ship the furniture of one room or just a few cartons?

Yes. A small shipment travels in a shared container with other customers’ goods, and you are charged for the space you occupy in cubic metres, not for the whole container. Your pieces are wrapped, numbered and kept apart from the rest, and wait in the consolidation warehouse until the container is full. So it takes some days longer and costs far less.

Do you ship a car from Jeddah to Spain?

Yes. A running car is driven onto the RoRo vessel at Jeddah Islamic Port, and the fare for a saloon starts from SAR 2,800. A luxury or non-running car is secured inside a container. In Spain there is 10% customs duty and 21% tax, then a registration tax based on emissions, unless the relief for people transferring their residence covers it.

Can I send dates, coffee and spices to my family in Spain?

Dates, coffee, cardamom and dry spices in sealed packs are shipped in family quantities, and under the rules currently applied dates need no plant-health certificate. Meat, dairy, ghee, cheese and anything containing an animal product, however, are barred by the European Union in personal parcels. Zamzam water is not something we ship as cargo.

Will my electrical appliances work in Spain?

The supply in Spain is 230 volts at a frequency of 50 hertz, and the socket there takes two round pins. A phone, a computer and a modern television work with a new plug or a small adaptor. For anything with a motor or compressor, such as a washing machine, a fridge or an air conditioner, check its label to see whether it accepts 50 hertz before you pay to ship it.

Does the price include customs clearance and delivery inside Spain?

It includes both when you order the door-to-door service, and we write each item separately: packing, haulage to the port, the sea fare, the Spanish broker’s fee and the lorry to your address. Customs duty and tax, however, are two sums collected by the Spanish treasury if they fall due, and they are not part of the freight charge at any company.

Do you collect the shipment from my home in Jeddah?

Yes, from every district of Jeddah, north, centre and south, and from Makkah, Taif, Rabigh, Thuwal and Bahrah by prior appointment. The team arrives with cartons, blankets and wrapping tape, then dismantles the furniture, wraps it, numbers it and writes the inventory list in the home.

Do you deliver to Spanish cities other than Madrid and Barcelona?

Yes. We deliver in Valencia, Seville, Malaga, Marbella, Alicante, Murcia, Granada, Cordoba, Zaragoza, Bilbao and the other cities and towns. The lorry leaves from the port or airport nearest the address. The Balearic and Canary Islands are reached by a second sea or air leg priced on request, and the Canaries have a tax system different from mainland Spain.

What is the difference between shipping to the port and shipping to the door?

In the first, our work ends when the container is landed on the quay of the Spanish port, and you handle the broker, the lorry and the quay charges. In the second, our agent receives the container, clears it, hauls it and unloads its contents in your home. The first suits someone who has a broker they know there, not someone moving for the first time.

Is the shipment insured on the way?

Insurance is an item you choose, and its premium is a percentage of the value you write in the inventory list. Without it the shipping line or the airline compensates you only with a limited sum tied to weight, which does not equal the price of a bedroom set or a screen. We photograph the pieces before wrapping them so the pictures support any claim.

Do you ship from Spain to Jeddah?

Yes, through our agent there. He collects from the factory, shop or home in the Spanish city and consolidates the purchases of several suppliers in one container that sails from Valencia or Barcelona to Jeddah Islamic Port, while urgent items come by air to King Abdulaziz Airport. New goods in the Kingdom carry a duty according to their category and 15% value added tax.
