Who ships from Jeddah to Italy, and what do they send?
The line between Jeddah and Italy is used by groups that have little in common. Jeddah is home to Italian engineers, contractors, chefs and designers who return home with years of furniture. It has families who send their children to study medicine, architecture and design at the universities of Milan, Rome, Turin and Bologna. It has traders who deal with Italian factories and send back samples or parts needing repair, and Umrah pilgrims who came from Italy and send their purchases ahead of the flight home. What is shipped varies just as much: household and office furniture, electrical appliances, clothes and personal effects, spare parts, parcels and gifts, and cars. Each group has a method that suits it and a status before Italian customs:
| Shipper | What they send | Best method | Status at Italian customs |
|---|---|---|---|
| An Italian who has finished work in Jeddah | Household furniture, appliances and a car | 20ft or 40ft container | Transfer-of-residence relief |
| A family moving for work or long treatment | Belongings and selected pieces of furniture | Shared container | The same relief once residence is registered |
| A student of medicine, design or architecture | Books, winter clothes and room items | Cartons by sea and a suitcase by air | Relief for study materials |
| An Umrah pilgrim or visitor from Italy | Dates, abayas, prayer rugs and gifts | Air parcel | A small gift, or purchases subject to tax |
| A trader or factory in Jeddah | Palletised goods, samples and returned parts | Container for volume, air for urgent items | Duty by tariff heading and 22% tax |
| The owner of a luxury or classic car | A car for residence or for restoration at its workshop | Closed container or RoRo | Full charges, relief or temporary admission |
The shipping route from Jeddah to Italy and its duration
Shipping from Jeddah shortens the first leg, because the port is in the shipper’s own city and the container enters it on the day it is loaded. The vessel then heads north to the Suez Canal, enters the Mediterranean and rounds southern Italy through the Strait of Messina or west of Sicily, climbing the Tyrrhenian Sea to the Gulf of Genoa. It passes neither Gibraltar nor the Atlantic as ships for northern Europe do, which is why the transit is short. The stages of a private container are as follows:
| Stage | What happens | Usual time |
|---|---|---|
| Loading in Jeddah | Dismantling, wrapping, numbering, inventory, then sealing the container | One day |
| Jeddah Islamic Port | Export declaration and waiting for the vessel’s sailing date | 3–6 days |
| Sailing | Red Sea, Suez Canal, Mediterranean, then the Tyrrhenian Sea | 8–12 days |
| Clearance at the Italian port | Import declaration and the relief application, or payment of duty and tax | 3–5 working days |
| Delivery inside Italy | Lorry from the port to the address and unloading there | 1–3 days |
The duration is tied to the method you choose. A few cartons wait for the consolidation container to fill, a car waits for the vehicle carrier, and an urgent parcel flies the same night. The figures below run from Jeddah to the consignee’s door:
| Method | Route | Time from Jeddah | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private container | Jeddah port → Genoa, La Spezia or Naples | 18–26 days | A whole home and wholesale goods |
| Shared container | Consolidated in Jeddah and sorted in a warehouse near the Italian port | 22–30 days | One or two rooms, students’ cartons and a few pallets |
| RoRo for cars | Jeddah port → an Italian port that receives vehicle carriers | 18–28 days | A car that runs under its own power |
| Air | King Abdulaziz Airport → Rome or Milan | 3–6 days | Parcels, documents, suitcases and samples |
What lengthens the duration?
- Changing vessel on the way: some services are direct and others transfer the container at an intermediate port such as Gioia Tauro or Port Said, which adds days. We tell you the type of service on the booking day.
- The Cape of Good Hope route: when shipping lines divert their vessels away from the Red Sea, the sailing grows by weeks. We state the actual routing before you pay.
- The tax code and residence registration: a container that lands before its owner’s papers stays in the yard at the owner’s expense.
- August: many Italian offices and warehouses run at half capacity in midsummer, so delivery slips.
- The Hajj season: Jeddah’s port and airport are congested before and after it, so we book earlier.
Durations for other destinations are on the transit times page.
Sea freight from Jeddah Islamic Port to Genoa and the Italian ports

Genoa is Italy’s largest container gateway and the entrance to its industrial north, about two hours by lorry from Milan and from Turin. Regular liner services for full and shared containers link it with Jeddah, some direct and some with a change of vessel. Italy, though, is a long peninsula, with roughly seven hundred kilometres between Genoa and Naples, so no single port suits every address. That is why we choose the port from the delivery city and not from the sailing price alone: what you save at sea you may pay twice over on a lorry crossing the country from end to end.
| Port | Location | Cities it serves | When we choose it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Genoa | North-west, on the Ligurian Sea | Milan, Turin, Bergamo and Brescia | For most shipments to the north |
| La Spezia | East of Genoa | Bologna, Parma, Modena and Verona | When its schedule is closer or the address is in Emilia-Romagna |
| Livorno | The Tuscan coast | Florence, Pisa and Bologna | For Tuscany and for cars |
| Civitavecchia | North-west of Rome | Rome and the centre of the country | For cars and shipments bound for the capital |
| Naples and Salerno | The south-west | Naples, Bari, and Rome by road | For addresses in the south |
| Gioia Tauro | The far south, in Calabria | Chiefly a transhipment port | A transit stop, not a destination |
| Trieste and Venice | The northern Adriatic | Venice, Padua and Udine | For addresses in the north-east |
A 20ft container takes about 28 cubic metres, enough for a flat of two or three rooms. A 40ft container takes roughly double that and suits a villa, or a home plus a car. The empty container is drawn from the yard of Jeddah port to your front door and returns sealed the same day. Details of the service are on the sea freight page, container dimensions on the container sizes page, and how the port works in the article International sea freight from Jeddah.
Shipping prices from Jeddah to Italy
Price on this line follows the unit of measure. An air parcel is priced per kilogram on chargeable weight, furniture in a shared container per cubic metre, a private container at one rate whatever you put in it, and a car by its class and length. Home Safe prices from Jeddah start from the following figures:
| What you ship | Method | Price starts from |
|---|---|---|
| Parcels, suitcases and samples | Air from King Abdulaziz Airport to Rome or Milan | SAR 23 per kilogram |
| Documents | Express | SAR 83 |
| Furniture and belongings | Shared container to Genoa | SAR 5,500 |
| A whole home of furniture | Private container | SAR 11,000 |
| Saloon car | RoRo from Jeddah Islamic Port | SAR 2,800 |
| Luxury or classic car | Closed container | Set on request by size and value |
| A student’s cartons | Shared crate by sea | Set on request by the number of cartons |
| Palletised commercial goods | 20ft or 40ft container, or part load | Set on request according to the vessel date |
Published market prices for this line are scarce, and most pages promise a competitive rate without writing a number. What is actually published is the courier charge for a small parcel to Italy, which starts between SAR 100 and SAR 130 for a light parcel or an envelope and rises with every half kilogram. For international shipping in general, about SAR 40 per kilogram for businesses and SAR 120 for an individual’s small shipment is quoted. No figures are published for containers and furniture, because their price moves with the vessel schedule. Our figures in the table are starting prices, and we write the final price for you once we know the volume and the address.
| What sets the price | Its effect on a Jeddah shipment |
|---|---|
| Volume or weight | Cubic metres by sea and chargeable weight by air. Work it out with the CBM calculator |
| Arrival port | The port near your address cuts the lorry charge inside Italy |
| Delivery city | Milan and Turin are close to Genoa; Sicily and Sardinia need a ferry |
| The address itself | A restricted historic centre, or a high floor with no lift |
| Scope of service | To the quay only, or into the flat with clearance and unloading |
| Season | Late summer when students travel, and the weeks around Hajj |
How do you cut the cost?
- Book four or five weeks before your travel date; space that is not urgent is cheaper.
- Choose the port nearest your Italian city, even if its sailing costs a little more.
- Send the first week’s suitcase by air and leave everything else to the sea.
- Have the tax code and the relief papers ready before the vessel arrives, to avoid storage charges.
The factors are explained on the pricing factors page, and container figures out of the city’s port are in the article Container shipping prices from Jeddah.
What sets shipping from Jeddah apart?
Jeddah brings together in one city everything this line needs. Its port is the Kingdom’s largest on the Red Sea and the closest to the Suez Canal, its airport operates flights to Italy, and it has an Italian consulate where a person moving can request the papers needed before travelling. Anyone shipping from Jeddah therefore pays for no long inland haul before the sea voyage begins.
- The container at the door: it is loaded in front of your home and sealed in front of you, so the furniture is not restowed in an intermediate warehouse.
- Coastal humidity: Jeddah’s air is humid, so we place moisture-absorbing bags in the container and wrap wood and leather in material that breathes.
- Lorry hours: large lorries may enter some districts only at set hours, so we arrange the loading time in advance.
- Umrah pilgrims’ luggage: we collect from hotels and furnished flats before the flight home.
A wider picture of shipping from the city is in the article International shipping companies in Jeddah.
Shipping students’ and families’ belongings and commercial goods from Jeddah to Italy

These three kinds make up most of what leaves Jeddah for Italy, and each is prepared in its own way. A student’s belongings are small in volume and tied to a fixed date at the start of term. A family’s belongings are larger and include fragile pieces and things of sentimental value. Commercial goods are stacked on pallets, strapped and stretch-wrapped, so that a forklift lifts them and no hand touches them. Two things unite all three: a number on every piece, and an inventory the Italian customs officer checks against it.
| Type | How it is prepared | How it is shipped | What the owner provides |
|---|---|---|---|
| A student’s belongings | Sturdy cartons of no more than 25 kilograms each | Shared crate by sea, or air | The admission letter or the university enrolment certificate |
| A family’s belongings | Every piece wrapped and numbered room by room | Shared or private container | The relief papers and a detailed inventory |
| Commercial goods | Strapped pallets with a label on every face | Part load, or a 20ft or 40ft container | Invoice, packing list and the European importer number |
The used furnishings of a student’s room and study materials enter without duty under the European rules currently applied, and we confirm what is in force before shipping. We write the inventory in English or Italian with the used value of each item, because a list that says only “personal effects” with no detail gets the cartons opened for inspection.
Shipping household furniture from Jeddah to Italy
Shipping furniture to Italy starts with a question about the home that will receive it, not the home it leaves. Many flats in Italian cities are in old buildings with narrow stairs and a small lift or none at all, and some pieces are raised to the balcony by an external hoist. The corner sofa and the six-door wardrobe that suit a villa in Jeddah may be left on the pavement in Rome. So we ask you for the measurements of the flat’s door and staircase before deciding what is shipped and what is sold.
- Dismantling: we take apart bedrooms, wardrobes and tables and put each piece’s screws in a bag carrying its number.
- Wrapping: blankets for wood, corrugated board for corners, and wooden crates for glass, marble and mirrors.
- Appliances: the voltage is the same in both countries; the difference is in frequency and socket. Check the label of every appliance with a motor.
- Carpets and majlis seating: rolled and wrapped against humidity, with their value written in the inventory.
- Assembly: the Italian agent’s crew unloads, assembles and takes the packing materials away if you ask.
The service is explained on the furniture shipping page.
Transfer-of-residence relief in Italy
Italy is a member of the European Union, whose rules relieve a person transferring residence from customs duty and tax on used belongings. The conditions are the same across the Union, but the papers the Italian customs office asks for have their own details, and most delays happen there. This is the practice currently applied, and we confirm what is in force before shipping because application differs from one office to another:
| Condition or document | Detail |
|---|---|
| Previous residence | At least 12 continuous months outside the European Union |
| Ownership and use | At least six months before the move, so new items in their boxes fall outside the relief |
| Import window | Within 12 months of registering residence in Italy |
| No disposal | The belongings may not be sold, lent or hired out for 12 months after entry |
| Residence registration | A certificate from the municipal population register, or the receipt for the application |
| Tax code | Obtained before the shipment arrives |
| Proof of residence in the Kingdom | A consular statement, or a lease, bills and an employer’s letter |
| Inventory | Detailed and signed, preferably written in Italian |
Anyone living in Jeddah can start at the Italian consulate there before packing. The statement proving how long you have lived in the Kingdom is easier to obtain while you are here, and those who travel without it need a power of attorney and correspondence that takes weeks. A person who buys a second home for holidays without moving their residence is not covered by the relief.
Private container or shared container?
The choice between the two is settled by volume and then by time. With less than 12 to 15 cubic metres you pay only for your own volume in a shared container and accept an extra week for consolidation and sorting. With a whole home, or furniture plus a car, a private container costs less per metre and leaves on its date without waiting for other people’s shipments.
| Comparison | Private container | Shared container |
|---|---|---|
| Who it suits | A large flat, a villa or wholesale goods | One or two rooms, cartons and a few pallets |
| Time to the door | 18–26 days | 22–30 days |
| Price starts from | SAR 11,000 | SAR 5,500 |
| Loading | In front of your home in Jeddah, sealed in front of you | The shipment is taken to the consolidation warehouse |
| Handling | Once at loading and once at unloading | More, so it needs stronger packing |
Shipping parcels, gifts and Umrah pilgrims’ luggage
Small parcels are the most numerous orders, and the senders are usually relatives posting to a son who is studying, or a pilgrim whose purchases exceeded the airline allowance. The European Union’s rules on parcels are clear: a small gift from one individual to another is exempt up to a limited value of about 45 euros, and anything above that, or bought from a shop, is charged value added tax and may also attract customs duty according to its value and category. This is the practice currently applied, and we confirm what is in force before shipping.
- Dates: in sealed packs and in personal quantities.
- Abayas, fabrics and prayer rugs: shipped without restriction, with their actual value declared.
- Perfumes and oud oil: flammable liquids, so they have set packing and quantity limits by air.
- Zamzam water: we do not ship it as cargo.
- Consignee details: the name as on the identity document, the address with its postcode, and an Italian phone number.
Details of the service are on the parcel shipping page.
Shipping commercial goods and samples to Italy
A trader in Jeddah ships less to Italy than he imports from it, but the need is real: dry foodstuffs and dates for community shops, petrochemicals and plastics for factories, parts and machines returned to their Italian maker for repair or replacement, and samples for the trade fairs of Milan and Bologna. Commercial goods enter on a full import declaration, and the Italian importer needs the European Union’s economic operator registration number. Duty follows the tariff heading, and value added tax is 22% in most cases, with reduced rates for some goods.
- Documents: commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading and certificate of origin.
- Conformity: appliances, toys and protective equipment need the European conformity mark and its technical file.
- Foodstuffs: a label in Italian and a registered importer, and they may be examined at the border control post.
- Returns for repair: shipped under a temporary admission arrangement set up with the factory before they leave Jeddah.
- Wooden pallets: they must be treated and stamped to the international standard for wood packaging.
The service is explained on the commercial shipping page.
Car shipping from Jeddah to Italy
A car is shipped from Jeddah Islamic Port in one of two ways. RoRo is for a running car: it is driven into the hold of the vessel and lashed to the deck, with fares starting from SAR 2,800 for a saloon. A closed container is for a luxury or classic car: it is secured by its wheels and covered, and household belongings can travel with it. Italy is the home of sports-car factories and restoration workshops, so some cars are shipped from Jeddah to be restored at their maker’s workshop and then return.
| Item | Practice currently applied in Italy |
|---|---|
| Customs duty | 10% on the value of the car plus freight and insurance |
| Value added tax | 22% on the value after duty is added |
| Transfer-of-residence relief | For a car owned and used for at least six months, not to be sold for a year after entry |
| Conformity | A technical inspection at the motor vehicle office; a non-European car goes through an individual inspection |
| Registration | Entry in the public motor vehicle register, a provincial registration tax, then the plates |
| Restoration and shows | Temporary admission under a guarantee, arranged before shipping |
The sea fare is the smallest item in the cost of the car. Anyone shipping a Gulf-specification car asks first about the conformity inspection and the modifications it may require, then works out the duty and tax, and then decides. We tell you which vehicle-carrier port is available on the booking day, as it changes with the line’s schedule. General conditions are in the article Car shipping from Saudi Arabia, and the two methods on the RoRo shipping and container car shipping pages.
Packing before shipping to Italy
A sea shipment is lifted and set down several times, shakes for days at sea, and moves from the heat and humidity of Jeddah to a cooler port. Packing here is a condition for the belongings arriving intact, not an extra service.
- Double-wall cartons: for books, kitchenware and clothes, at a weight one person can carry.
- Plastic film and moisture-resistant paper: for fabrics, mattresses and carpets.
- Dividers, corner guards and foam: for plates, glass and ornaments.
- Treated wooden crates: for marble, mirrors, paintings and delicate equipment.
- Numbering and inventory: a number on every piece, matched by a line in the inventory with its name and value.
The full method is in the packing guide, and securing inside the container on the packing and lashing page.
Customs clearance in Italy and the documents required
Clearance in Italy is handled by the Customs and Monopolies Agency, and a licensed broker lodges the declaration with it in the consignee’s name. The shipment passes two stages: export from the Kingdom on a declaration issued at Jeddah’s port or airport, then import at the Italian port or airport. A missing paper only comes to light when the vessel arrives, and from then every day of delay is charged as storage. That is why we review the whole file before the container is sealed.
| Document | Personal effects and furniture | Commercial goods |
|---|---|---|
| Passport and residence permit or visa | Required | Not required |
| Italian tax code | Required | The European importer number instead |
| Inventory or packing list | Detailed, with values | With weights and dimensions |
| Residence registration certificate | For those claiming relief | Not required |
| Proof of previous residence in the Kingdom | For those claiming relief | Not required |
| Commercial invoice and certificate of origin | For new items only | Both required |
| Bill of lading or air waybill | We issue it | We issue it |
A fuller list is on the shipping documents page, and the stages are explained on the customs clearance page.
What cannot be shipped to Italy or needs a permit
Before packing we go through what is in the home with you and tell you what may not enter Italy and what enters with a permit. Prohibitions are of two kinds: what the rules of the European Union and Italian law forbid, and what the rules of sea and air transport forbid as dangerous. A single offending carton can hold a whole container for inspection.
| Category | Rule |
|---|---|
| Meat, dairy, ghee and cheese | Prohibited from outside the European Union, even in personal quantities |
| Plants, seeds and soil | Need a plant-health certificate |
| Medicines | For personal need only, with the prescription |
| Weapons, ammunition and combat knives | Prohibited without a prior licence |
| Counterfeit goods | Confiscated, and Italy is strict about them |
| Ivory, skins and coral from protected species | Need an endangered-species convention permit |
| Antiques and archaeological pieces | Declared, with proof of ownership attached |
| Batteries, gases, paints and perfumes in bulk | Dangerous goods with special packing and a declaration |
| Electric bicycles and scooters | The European conformity mark is required |
The general list is on the prohibited items page.
Delivering shipments from Jeddah in Rome, Milan, Naples, Turin and Bologna

After customs release comes the stage the consignee sees: the Italian agent’s lorry carries the shipment from the port or airport to the address. Delivery in Italy has a particular feature unknown to anyone who has not shipped there. The historic centres of the cities are limited-traffic zones that a lorry may enter only with a permit and at certain hours, and their streets are too narrow for a container lorry. So we transfer the shipment to a smaller vehicle at the edge of the city and book the permit before delivery day. Delivery to the door includes unloading, and carrying upstairs and assembly if you ask for them.
| City | Nearest port | Approximate distance | Delivery note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rome | Civitavecchia or Naples | About 75 kilometres from Civitavecchia | A restricted centre and old buildings without lifts |
| Milan | Genoa | About 150 kilometres | Limited-access zones; the closest city to Malpensa airport |
| Naples | The port of Naples itself | Inside the city | Narrow alleys in the centre, so delivery is by a small vehicle |
| Turin | Genoa | About 170 kilometres | A university and industrial city, easy to deliver outside the centre |
| Bologna | La Spezia or Livorno | About 200 kilometres | Porticoes and a restricted centre, with an inland freight terminal near the city |
| Florence | Livorno | About 95 kilometres | A historic centre closed to lorries |
| Venice | The port of Venice or Trieste | In or near the city | The historic part is reached by boat |
We also deliver to Genoa, Verona, Padua, Bari, Palermo, Catania and Cagliari, and to small towns and villages. The method is on the door-to-door shipping page.
Services for individuals, companies and traders
The service is the same at its core and differs in paperwork and billing. An individual needs someone to wrap the furniture and explain the relief, a company needs a contract and a tax invoice, and a trader needs a container price he knows before his deal.
- Individuals and families: a survey at home, wrapping and numbering, and door-to-door shipping.
- Students: a few cartons at a price to match, delivered to the hall of residence or the flat.
- Companies: moving seconded employees’ furniture, equipment and samples, with a contract and an invoice.
- Traders and factories: full containers, part loads and air freight for urgent items, with export clearance.
- Official bodies and missions: diplomats’ shipments enter on an authorisation from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs obtained before arrival.
All services are on the shipping services page.
Air freight from Jeddah to Italy

Air freight is for urgent and light shipments: documents, personal parcels, a student’s suitcases, a trader’s samples and a spare part a factory is waiting for. The shipment leaves from King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, and the flight to Italy takes about five hours. There are direct flights between Jeddah and Rome, and flights to Milan that are direct or involve one connection depending on the seasonal schedule. The shipment is delivered in Rome and Milan within 3 to 6 days of collection, and in other cities a day or two later. The price starts from SAR 23 per kilogram and falls as the weight rises.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Departure airport | King Abdulaziz International Airport, Jeddah |
| Arrival airports | Rome Fiumicino, and Milan Malpensa, Italy’s leading cargo airport |
| Time to the door | 3–6 days in Rome and Milan |
| How it is charged | Chargeable weight: the greater of actual and volumetric weight |
| Price starts from | SAR 23 per kilogram, and express documents from SAR 83 |
| Not accepted by air | Loose lithium batteries, perfumes in bulk, aerosols and flammable materials |
Work out your parcel’s volumetric weight with the volumetric weight calculator. Details of the service are on the air freight page, and how the office works in the article Air freight office in Jeddah.
Air or sea, and is there land freight to Italy?
The rule is simple: what is measured in kilograms and expected within a week goes by air, and what is measured in cubic metres and can bear three weeks goes by sea. Many of our customers combine the two: two suitcases by air for the first week, and the rest of the home in a container.
- Sea: 18–30 days, charged per cubic metre or per container, and the cheapest for anything bulky.
- Air: 3–6 days, charged per kilogram, and the best fit for light and urgent items.
- Land: we do not offer it. The overland route to Italy crosses several countries and border posts whose conditions change, and the sea is shorter and clearer in cost.
The detailed comparison is on the shipping methods comparison page.
Collection from Jeddah’s districts and nearby towns
We collect the shipment where it stands in any district of Jeddah and in the towns near it. The drive to the port or the airport is under an hour from most districts, so a shipment collected in the morning is in the warehouse or inside the container before evening.
| Area | Districts and towns | Note |
|---|---|---|
| North Jeddah | Obhur North and South, Al Shati, Al Mohammadiyah, Al Naeem, Al Basateen | Villas and residential compounds, with the container loaded at the door |
| Central Jeddah | Al Rawdah, Al Zahra, Al Salamah, Al Hamra, Al Andalus, Al Khalidiyah | Apartment blocks, so we arrange the lift and the lorry parking |
| East Jeddah | Al Safa, Al Marwah, Al Rehab, Al Naseem, Al Samer, Al Hamdaniyah | Close to the expressway to the port |
| South Jeddah and the old centre | Al Balad, Al Kandarah, Al Baghdadiyah, Al Sanabel, Al Khumrah | Narrow streets in Al Balad, and commercial warehouses to the south |
| Nearby towns | Makkah, Taif, Rabigh, Thuwal, Dhahban, Al Lith | Haulage to Jeddah is added; from Thuwal come researchers and university students |
The cities we cover in the Kingdom are on the shipping cities page.
Steps for shipping from Jeddah to Italy
- Contact: you call or send on WhatsApp 0552803439 the type of shipment, photos of it and your Italian city.
- Survey and price: we survey the furniture at home or from photos and write the price line by line, with what it covers.
- Paper review: we establish your status with Italian customs and give you a list of the documents needed.
- Wrapping and numbering: the crew arrives with its materials, dismantles, wraps, numbers and writes the inventory.
- Loading: into a container at your door, to the consolidation warehouse, or to King Abdulaziz Airport.
- Export and sailing: we complete the export declaration at Jeddah Islamic Port and send you the container or waybill number.
- Clearance in Italy: the agent lodges the import declaration and the relief application and tells you what is due, if anything.
- Delivery: a lorry to your address, unloading and assembly if requested, and a signature on receipt after checking against the inventory.
Tracking and insuring the shipment
Follow-up starts with one number. A container has its own number and a bill of lading number, both visible on the shipping line’s website. An air shipment has its air waybill number on the carrier’s website. Even so, we notify you ourselves at every point: the container leaving Jeddah port, the Suez Canal transit, the vessel berthing at the Italian port, customs release and the delivery appointment.
Insurance is a separate item that you choose, calculated as a percentage of the value written in the inventory. The shipping line’s compensation for damage is capped by the weight of the goods, not their price, so a majlis set, a painting or a car is not covered by it. Details are on the shipment tracking and cargo insurance pages.
Shipping from Italy to Jeddah
The line works in both directions, and the direction from Italy is the busier one. Anyone building a home in Jeddah or fitting out a showroom or a restaurant buys from Italy: furniture, kitchens, marble, tiles, lighting, coffee machines and fashion. The purchases usually come from several factories in different cities, so the agent collects them one by one, gathers them in a warehouse, packs them for export, then ships them in one container from Genoa or La Spezia to Jeddah Islamic Port. Urgent items come by air to King Abdulaziz Airport.
- In the Kingdom: customs duty according to the category, and 15% value added tax.
- Conformity: some products need a Saudi certificate of conformity before shipping.
- A person returning to the Kingdom: their used personal belongings enter as personal effects.
Tips before shipping from Jeddah to Italy
- Choose the method by volume and date, not by the bare price.
- Obtain the Italian tax code before you book the vessel.
- Time the shipment so the container lands a week or two after you arrive, not before.
- Measure the door and stairs of the Italian flat and ask the landlord about the lift.
- Photograph valuable pieces before they are wrapped and write their value in the inventory.
How do you choose a shipping company from Jeddah to Italy?
Shipping to a European Union country leaves no room for trial and error. A company that does not know the line may hand you a low price, after which your container stops at the port for a missing paper or charges nobody mentioned are added. The difference shows in the company’s answers to your questions before you pay:
| What you ask about | A reassuring answer | A worrying answer |
|---|---|---|
| Legal standing | Commercial registration, a contract and a collection receipt | A transfer to an individual’s account with no document |
| Arrival port | Names the port and ties it to your city | “To Italy” with no port named |
| Customs | Asks you about the tax code and residence registration | “Nothing is due on used goods” |
| Delivery | Asks about the floor, the lift and the city centre | “Delivery at the port” with no explanation |
| Price | Written in lines, with what it covers and what it does not | A single figure over the phone |
| Duration | Separates sailing days from the time to the door | “Ten days and it is with you” |
Common mistakes when shipping from Jeddah to Italy
- Choosing the port with the cheapest sailing when the address is at the other end of the country.
- The container landing before the tax code is issued or residence is registered.
- Putting ghee, cheese or dried meat among the kitchen items.
- Shipping bulky furniture to a flat in an old building without measuring the stairs.
- Writing “personal effects” in the inventory instead of naming what is in each carton.
- Shipping a Gulf-specification car before asking about the conformity inspection.
- Comparing a price to the quay with a price to the front door as if they were the same.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Jeddah to Italy
How long does shipping from Jeddah to Italy take?
The vessel covers the distance between Jeddah Islamic Port and Genoa in 8 to 12 days when it transits the Suez Canal. Add the days at both ports, clearance and inland haulage, and the time from your door to the consignee’s door comes to 18–26 days for a private container and 22–30 days for a shared one. An air parcel is delivered in 3 to 6 days.
How much does shipping from Jeddah to Italy cost?
It depends on what you send. An air kilogram starts from SAR 23, an express document envelope from SAR 83, furniture in a shared container from SAR 5,500, a whole home in a private container from SAR 11,000, and a saloon car on a RoRo vessel from SAR 2,800. The final figure follows once we know the volume and the Italian city.
Does the price include customs clearance in Italy?
The Italian broker’s fee and delivery to the door are part of the price whenever you order the door-to-door service, and we list them line by line before loading. Customs duty and value added tax, however, are paid straight to the Italian treasury if they fall due, and nobody can fold them into the freight charge.
Do you offer insurance on the shipment?
Yes, and it is an optional item calculated as a percentage of the value you declare. All-risks cover takes in breakage, water damage and loss from the door in Jeddah to the door in Italy, while restricted cover applies to total loss only. We advise it for every furniture container and every car, because the sea carrier’s liability is capped by weight.
Which Italian port will my container arrive at?
That depends on your address. Genoa for Milan, Turin and the whole north-west; La Spezia and Livorno for Bologna and Florence; Civitavecchia or Naples for Rome; Naples and Salerno for the south. Adriatic ports such as Trieste and Venice serve the north-east. We name the port in the booking before the container is closed.
Will I pay customs on my used furniture in Italy?
Not if you are transferring your residence and meet the relief conditions currently applied: a year or more of living outside the European Union, belongings you have owned and used for at least six months, and an application to the municipal population register. Anyone outside those conditions pays the duty for the item and 22% value added tax. We review your case before booking.
What is the Italian tax code and why do you ask for it?
It is a sixteen-character identification code called the codice fiscale, issued by the Italian revenue agency, and it can be requested through the Italian consulate before you travel. The broker cannot open an import declaration in your name without it, so a container that lands before the code leaves its owner paying port storage while waiting.
Do you ship students’ belongings from Jeddah to Italy?
Yes, and it is among our busiest work in late summer. The suitcase a student needs in the first week goes by air to Rome or Milan, while books, winter clothes and room items travel in numbered cartons by sea. Study materials and the used furnishings of a student’s room are relieved from duty under the European rules currently applied.
Do you ship a car from Jeddah to Italy?
Yes. A running car is driven onto the RoRo vessel at Jeddah Islamic Port, and the fare starts from SAR 2,800 for a saloon. A luxury or classic car is lashed by its wheels inside a closed container. In Italy there is 10% duty and 22% tax unless the mover’s relief covers the car, then a technical inspection and registration before the plates.
Is a Gulf-specification car easy to register in Italy?
Not always. A car built for the Gulf market usually carries no European certificate of conformity, so it goes through an individual inspection at the motor vehicle office that looks at the lights, the emissions and the speedometer. A modification costing money and time may be required. Send us the chassis number and year of manufacture before you book.
Can dates, coffee and spices be shipped to Italy?
Dates, coffee and dry spices in sealed packs can be sent in personal quantities, and dates are exempt from the plant-health certificate under the European rules currently applied. Meat, dairy, ghee and anything containing an animal product, however, may not enter from outside the European Union, even as a gift in a factory tin.
Will my electrical appliances work in Italy?
The voltage is 230 V in both countries, so most appliances work. The difference lies in the frequency, which is 50 Hz in Italy, and in the Italian socket with its three pins set in a single row. A phone, a computer and a television need only a new plug. For anything with a motor, such as a washing machine or an air conditioner, read its label before paying to ship it.
Do you deliver to Italian cities other than Rome and Milan?
Yes, to every city and town: Naples, Turin, Bologna, Florence, Venice, Genoa, Verona, Padua, Bari, Palermo, Catania and Cagliari. The lorry leaves from the arrival port or from Rome or Milan airport, and the islands of Sicily and Sardinia are reached by a domestic ferry that adds a day or two.
Do you collect the shipment from my home in Jeddah?
Yes, from every district of Jeddah and from the nearby towns: Makkah, Taif, Rabigh, Thuwal and Al Lith. The crew arrives with packing materials, dismantles the furniture, wraps it, numbers it and writes the inventory at the house. Anyone with one or two cartons can hand them in at our warehouse or ask for a courier.
Do you ship from Italy to Jeddah?
Yes. The agent collects from the factory, showroom or home in any Italian city and consolidates purchases from several suppliers into one container when needed. The goods arrive by sea at Jeddah Islamic Port or by air at King Abdulaziz Airport. New goods attract duty according to their category and 15% value added tax in the Kingdom.
