The vessel passes through the Suez Canal and reaches the first Italian ports after about ten days at sea, and the ports of the Netherlands and Germany after roughly three weeks; from your home in Jeddah to the European address it is usually 18 to 40 days depending on the country. The aircraft delivers a parcel in 3 to 6 days. An air kilogram starts from SAR 23, part-load furniture from SAR 5,500, and a car by RoRo from SAR 2,800. To book: 0552803439.

Who ships from Jeddah to Europe, and what can be shipped?
Jeddah is the Kingdom’s gateway on the Red Sea, and what leaves it for Europe is a mix you do not find in another city: the furniture of European employees who have finished their contracts, the belongings of students and scholarship holders, the cars of summer travellers and returnees, the goods of traders and factories, and the purchases of Hajj and Umrah pilgrims who came from France, Germany, the UK and the Netherlands. We ship everything cleared for international carriage: furniture and furnishings, electrical appliances, commercial consignments, personal parcels, and cars. The table brings together the shippers and what suits them:
| Shipper | What they ship | Best method | What is asked first |
|---|---|---|---|
| A family moving residence or returning home | Household furniture, appliances and a car | 20ft or 40ft container | The relief paper in the country of arrival and when it is applied for |
| A student or scholarship holder | Books, winter clothes and room essentials | A shared crate by sea and a suitcase by air | The start of term and the accommodation address |
| A trader or factory | Dates, food, perfumes, goods and samples | A container for volume and air for the sample | The European importer’s number and product conformity |
| A Hajj or Umrah pilgrim from Europe | Gifts, dates, abayas and prayer rugs | An air parcel or cartons by sea | The gift allowance in their country |
The shipping route from Jeddah to Europe and its duration
A shipment leaving Jeddah covers no overland road before the sea, because the port is in the city itself. The vessel heads north up the Red Sea and passes through the Suez Canal into the Mediterranean, and there the route divides: some vessels call at the ports of Italy, France and Spain, and others carry on west to Gibraltar and then climb the Atlantic to the English Channel and the North Sea. That is why the time differs between one European country and another by more than two weeks. These are the stages of a full container door to door:
| Stage | What happens | Usual time |
|---|---|---|
| Collection and packing in Jeddah | Dismantling, packing, numbering, loading and sealing | One to two days |
| Jeddah Islamic Port | Export declaration and waiting for the booked vessel | 3–6 days |
| Sailing to the Mediterranean ports | The Red Sea, then Suez, then Genoa, Marseille or Barcelona | 8–14 days |
| Sailing to the northern ports | The Mediterranean, then Gibraltar, then Antwerp, Rotterdam or Hamburg | 14–22 days |
| Clearance in the country of arrival | Import declaration and the relief application or payment of the tax | 2–5 working days |
| Delivery within the continent | Truck, train or river barge, then unloading | 1–4 days |
The method changes the time just as the country does. A small shipment waits for the shared container to fill, a car waits for the vehicle carrier, and a parcel waits for nothing. The figures below run from Jeddah to the consignee’s door:
| Method | To the Mediterranean countries | To the west and north of the continent | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full container | 18–30 days | 25–38 days | A whole home or wholesale goods |
| Part load | 22–32 days | 30–42 days | A room, or cartons and baggage |
| RoRo for cars | According to the sailing date | 25–38 days | A car that runs under its own power |
| Air | 3–6 days | 3–6 days | Parcels, documents and urgent baggage |
What lengthens the time?
- The shipping line’s routing: some lines sail round the Cape of Good Hope instead of Suez in certain periods, which adds one to two weeks at sea. We tell you the actual routing when you book.
- Transhipment: not every European port has a direct vessel from Jeddah, and some containers are moved to a second vessel at a Mediterranean port.
- A missing paper: a container that arrives before the relief permit, or before its owner has registered an address, stands in the port at a daily charge.
Times for other destinations are on the transit times page.
Sea container freight from Jeddah to the major European ports

Sea freight is the usual route for anything measured in cubic metres: furniture, commercial goods, equipment and heavy consignments. The container leaves from Jeddah Islamic Port, the largest container port on the Red Sea, where shipping lines call that link it with the Mediterranean and the North Sea on weekly services, some direct and some with transhipment. The container is 20ft or 40ft, full for one shipper or shared among several. Four ports receive most of what we ship to the continent, and each serves its own countries:
| Port | Country | Sailing days from Jeddah | What it serves |
|---|---|---|---|
| Genoa | Italy | 8–12 days | Northern Italy, Switzerland and western Austria |
| Antwerp | Belgium | 14–20 days | Belgium, Luxembourg and northern France |
| Rotterdam | Netherlands | 15–21 days | The Netherlands, western Germany and Switzerland by the Rhine |
| Hamburg | Germany | 16–22 days | Northern and eastern Germany, Czechia and Denmark |
| Marseille | France | 9–13 days | Southern France and Lyon |
| Barcelona and Valencia | Spain | 9–14 days | Spain and Portugal |
The rule we work by: the port is chosen from the delivery address. A container bound for Milan is not sent to Rotterdam because its sea freight is slightly lower, since a thousand kilometres by truck and an Alpine crossing follow, while Genoa is two hours from Milan. The service is explained on the sea freight page, and what happens inside the port in the article international sea freight from Jeddah.
Shipping prices from Jeddah to Europe
A price to Europe is not given as one figure, because the continent is not one destination. It changes with the weight and volume of the shipment, with the method, sea or air, with the country and the city, and with the delivery speed required. But every kind of shipment has a figure the price starts from out of Jeddah, and these are ours:
| What you ship | Method and destination | Price starts from |
|---|---|---|
| Parcels, baggage and samples | Air to the countries of the continent | SAR 23 per kilogram |
| Parcels and baggage | Air to the UK | SAR 26 per kilogram |
| Documents up to one kilogram | Express | SAR 83 |
| A parcel up to 5 kilograms | Express | SAR 110 |
| Furniture and belongings | Part load to the west and north of the continent | SAR 5,500 |
| A whole home’s furniture | Full container to the west and north of the continent | SAR 11,000 |
| A saloon car | RoRo from Jeddah port to a European port | SAR 2,800 |
| A car inside a container, and inland haulage in Europe | According to the country and the city | Set on request |
Prices circulating in the market for this lane are few and scattered. Most shipping websites publish no figure for Europe and settle for a phrase such as “the cheapest prices” or “competitive prices” with no base price to measure against. What is actually published is general figures for international parcels: about SAR 180 per kilogram by international post, from SAR 250 a parcel with express couriers, and about SAR 519 for a shipment outside the Kingdom, with the price per kilogram falling as the parcel gets heavier. Export cost examples mention about SAR 7,500 of sea freight for a 20ft container and SAR 800 of port and documentation fees.
| What sets the price | Its effect on a Jeddah shipment |
|---|---|
| The country and the port | The Mediterranean ports are nearer and cheaper to sail to than the northern and Baltic ports |
| Volume or weight | The cubic metre by sea and the chargeable weight by air. Estimate it with the CBM calculator |
| The final city | A port city is cheaper, and an inland city adds haulage that may cross another country |
| Delivery speed | Urgent air costs more than standard air, and a full container is faster than a part load |
How do you lower the cost?
- Give us the full European address on the first call; choosing the right port saves more than any discount.
- Ship as a part load as long as your volume is under 15 cubic metres, and do not pay for a container that is half empty.
- Send what you need in your first week by air, and leave all the rest to the sea.
- Have the relief paper ready before the vessel arrives; storage at European ports is charged by the day.
The factors are set out on the pricing factors page, and the figures for containers leaving the port in the article container shipping prices from Jeddah.
The European countries we ship to from Jeddah
We cover every European destination, and each country has its own port, airport and transit time. The table is a quick guide to the countries most requested from Jeddah, with a link to the detailed article for each one, which holds its customs, its cities and what is particular to it:

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Germany | Hamburg and Bremerhaven | Frankfurt | 25–40 days | Jeddah to Germany |
| France | Marseille and Le Havre | Paris Charles de Gaulle | 22–35 days | Jeddah to France |
| Italy | Genoa and Livorno | Milan and Rome | 18–30 days | Jeddah to Italy |
| Spain | Barcelona and Valencia | Madrid | 20–32 days | Shipping to Spain |
| Netherlands | Rotterdam | Amsterdam Schiphol | 25–38 days | Jeddah to the Netherlands |
| Belgium | Antwerp and Zeebrugge | Brussels and Liège | 25–38 days | Jeddah to Belgium |
| Switzerland | Genoa or Rotterdam, then overland | Zurich and Geneva | 25–38 days | Jeddah to Switzerland |
| Sweden | Gothenburg | Stockholm | 30–42 days | Jeddah to Sweden |
| Austria | Koper or Trieste, then overland | Vienna | 25–40 days | Jeddah to Austria |
| United Kingdom | Felixstowe and Southampton | London Heathrow | 25–40 days | Jeddah to the UK |
| Poland | Gdansk | Warsaw | 30–42 days | Shipping to Poland |
| Cyprus | Limassol | Larnaca | 12–20 days | Shipping to Cyprus |
We also ship to Greece through the port of Piraeus, and to Portugal, Ireland, Denmark, Norway, Czechia, Hungary and the remaining countries. Landlocked countries are served from the nearest port and then by truck or train on a transit document. If you do not find your country in the table, call us and name the city.
What sets shipping from Jeddah apart?
Anyone shipping to Europe from an inland city pays for a road to the coast before the journey begins. The Jeddah shipper is spared all of that: the port lies south of the city centre, the airport is in its north, and between them are the warehouses and the industrial city. So the empty container is pulled from the port yard in the morning, filled at the home, and back on the quay before evening.
- Direct flights: King Abdulaziz Airport has flights to several European capitals, so in most cases the parcel does not pass through a third airport, and we confirm the schedule in force when you book.
- Truck movement: the traffic department restricts large trucks on some roads at peak hours, so we set the loading time around the hours allowed that day.
- Coastal humidity: Jeddah’s air is damp and salty, and what is trapped in the container condenses in the cold of the Atlantic. So we load early and hang moisture absorbers.
For a comparison of those operating in the city, see the article international shipping companies in Jeddah.
Shipping household furniture from Jeddah to Europe and packing it
A European home is usually smaller than a Jeddah home, its stairs are narrower, and large trucks cannot enter its old city centres. So the first thing we do before packing is sort: what is shipped, what is sold here, and what is stored. A long Arabic majlis and a wide bedroom set may not pass up the staircase of a building in Paris or Amsterdam, and an air conditioner is not needed in most of the continent. After sorting comes the packing, which is what protects the furniture through a full month at sea:
- Purpose-made cartons: double-wall cartons for books and crockery, hanging wardrobe cartons for clothes, and crates for screens and paintings.
- Protection against breakage: glass, marble and mirrors are wrapped in foam, set in a wooden frame and loaded upright.
- Protection against moisture: painted wood is wrapped in paper first and then in plastic so that it does not sweat, and mattresses go into sealed bags.
- Treated wood: every wooden crate or beam carries the ISPM 15 stamp, a condition applied by all European ports.
- Numbering: each piece has a number written on its wrapping and in the packing list with its description in English, so anything missing is spotted at a glance on unloading.
Electrical appliances work in Europe as far as voltage goes, since it is 230 volts across the continent. The difference is the socket: the UK, Ireland, Cyprus and Malta use three rectangular pins, most of the continent uses two round pins, and Italy and Switzerland have sockets of their own. For anything with a motor, such as a washing machine, read its label, because the European frequency is 50 hertz. Service details are on the furniture shipping page, and how each item is packed in the packing guide.
Full container or part load?
We offer both from Jeddah port, and choosing between them is a matter of volume and nothing more. Whoever fills most of a container takes it whole and gains a single seal from door to door. Whoever has one room or twenty cartons shares a container with others and pays only for their cubic metres. This is the comparison:
| Comparison | Full container | Part load |
|---|---|---|
| You pay for | The whole container | The cubic metres you occupy |
| Loading | At your home in Jeddah, sealed in front of you | The shipment is moved to the consolidation warehouse near the port |
| Time | The shortest by sea | About a week more for consolidation and sorting |
| Best for | A flat of two rooms or more, or furniture with a car | Anything under 15 cubic metres |
| Price starts from | SAR 11,000 | SAR 5,500 |
A 20ft container holds the furniture of a two- or three-room flat once dismantled, and a 40ft container holds a whole home or furniture and a car together. Sizes and payloads are on the container sizes page.
Shipping parcels, baggage and the gifts of Hajj and Umrah pilgrims
Personal parcels are the most numerous shipments from Jeddah to Europe, and most of them fly. European customs read the declaration of every parcel arriving from outside the Union, so an accurate declaration is half the journey. These points save you the questions:
- Price: a kilogram from SAR 23 to the countries of the continent and SAR 26 to the UK, a parcel up to 5 kilograms from SAR 110, and a small parcel has a minimum charge.
- Gift: a parcel sent from one individual to another free of charge is exempt in the EU states if its value does not exceed 45 euros; that is the rule applied, and we check the threshold in force on the day of dispatch.
- Students’ belongings: used clothes, books and room essentials have student relief in most countries, and the admission letter is attached to them.
- Dates, coffee and spices: fine as long as they are for personal use and in sealed packs, and under the rule applied dates are spared the plant-health certificate.
- Pilgrims’ baggage: we collect it from the hotel in Jeddah or Makkah, and weigh and pack it in front of its owner before they travel.
Zamzam water has no place in our shipments, since its exit from the Kingdom is limited to the dedicated pack the traveller carries from the airport. How to prepare a parcel is on the parcel shipping page.
Shipping commercial goods and equipment from Jeddah to Europe
A trader exporting from Jeddah to Europe enters the largest single market in the world through any of its ports. Goods cleared in Antwerp are then sold in Berlin and Madrid with no new customs. But this market examines the product before it examines its value, and the European importer answers to customs for everything that enters in their name.
- The importer: needs a European customs identification number, without which the import declaration is not accepted.
- Documents: a commercial invoice, a packing list, a bill of lading, and a certificate of origin issued by the chamber of commerce in Jeddah.
- Conformity: electrical products, toys and cosmetics carry the European conformity mark and have a technical file.
- Food: dates and plant products enter on their conditions with a label in the country’s language, and animal products with veterinary certificates through designated inspection posts.
- Equipment and heavy consignments: shipped in open-top containers or on flat racks, and priced by their dimensions and weight.
Details are on the commercial shipping and heavy equipment shipping pages.
Car shipping from Jeddah to Europe by RoRo or inside a container

A car leaves Jeddah for Europe in one of two ways. With RoRo it enters Jeddah port and is driven up the vessel’s ramp to an inner deck, uncovered, with no wrap, and lashed by its wheels, then driven off onto the European quay. In a container it is secured with straps and wooden chocks, and the doors are closed on it and sealed. The first costs less, and the second protects more. The table shows when each is chosen:
| Method | How the car is shipped | Suits | Price starts from |
|---|---|---|---|
| RoRo | Driven onto the vessel uncovered and shipped empty of belongings | A running car to vehicle ports such as Zeebrugge, Bremerhaven and Southampton | SAR 2,800 for a saloon |
| 20ft container | One car, secured and sealed | Luxury and classic cars, and cars whose engine does not run | Set on request |
| 40ft container | A car with furniture behind a partition, or two cars | A family moving with its home | Set on request |
Before we book, we review with you the import conditions of the country of arrival, because they decide whether shipping is worthwhile. In the European Union states a customs duty of 10% is paid on the value of the car and its freight, then VAT at the country’s rate, unless the car enters under transfer-of-residence relief after you have owned and used it for six months. After customs comes an individual approval for a Gulf-specification car, which may ask for changes to the lamps and the emissions. Countries such as the Netherlands and Denmark add a high registration tax. And the UK, Ireland, Cyprus and Malta are right-hand drive. That is the rule applied, and we confirm what is in force for your country before shipping.
On the Jeddah side we ask for the registration card and the export certificate and plates from the traffic department, a quarter of a tank of fuel, and a car washed underneath and empty of personal belongings; then we photograph it and record the odometer. The two methods are compared on the RoRo car shipping and container car shipping pages, and the general conditions are in the article car shipping from Saudi Arabia.
European customs: the Union states and those outside it
The most important thing a shipper to Europe should know is that the continent is two parts in customs terms. The twenty-seven states of the European Union are one customs territory: the duty tariff is the same in all of them, and what is cleared in one moves in the rest. The UK, Switzerland and Norway are outside this territory, each with its own declaration, forms and tax. What differs among the Union states themselves is the rate of VAT, which is paid in the country of use. These are the rates applied:
| Country | VAT | Customs status | What is particular to it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Germany | 19% | European Union | The residence registration certificate to apply for relief |
| France and Austria | 20% | European Union | A detailed packing list with the value of each line |
| The Netherlands, Belgium and Spain | 21% | European Union | In the Netherlands the relief permit is applied for before the shipment arrives |
| Italy | 22% | European Union | An Italian tax number for the owner of the shipment |
| United Kingdom | 20% | Own customs | The transfer-of-residence relief is applied for online before shipping |
| Switzerland | 8.1% | Own customs | Removal goods form 18.44 |
| Norway | 25% | Own customs | A specific declaration for removal goods on entry |
Anyone moving their place of residence to a European country brings in their furniture, belongings and car free of duty and tax. The conditions are the same across the Union states and close to them in the UK, Switzerland and Norway, and this is a summary of those applied:
- Previous residence: at least 12 continuous months outside the country or outside the Union.
- Ownership and use: 6 months before the move, so a new item in its box is not covered by the relief.
- Time limit: the belongings enter within 12 months of the date residence is transferred.
- After entry: they are not sold or rented out before 12 months have passed.
- The application: in some countries it is made before shipping and in others on arrival, and this is what we ask about first.
These rules are reviewed from time to time, so we confirm what is in force in your country before the container is sealed.
Customs clearance and the documents required
We handle the clearance procedures at both ends: the export declaration at Jeddah Islamic Port or the airport’s cargo village, and the import declaration in the country of arrival through a licensed agent. We prepare the documents, invoices and bill of lading with you before loading day, so the shipment is not handed to the carrier with a paper missing from its file. This is what is asked for by type of shipment:
| Type of shipment | Documents | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Furniture and belongings of someone moving residence | Passport, the relief application on the country’s form, packing list, proof of the new home, proof of residence in the Kingdom, and the bill of lading | The list numbered and in a language the country of arrival accepts |
| Commercial goods | Commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin, and the European importer’s number | Conformity or health certificates according to the item |
| A car | Registration card, export certificate and plates, passport, and purchase invoice | The chassis number identical on every paper |
| A parcel or gift | The sender’s ID, and a declaration of each item and its value | The consignee’s name as it appears on their letterbox |
A resident on final exit also hands us a copy of the iqama and of the exit visa. Every paper is described under shipping documents, and customs clearance walks through how release works.
What cannot be shipped to Europe or needs a permit
We explain the prohibited items before shipping, not after, and go through the cartons with you while they are open. What is most often held at European ports is not dangerous in its owner’s mind: a tin of ghee, some home-made cheese, or dried meat among the kitchen things. Union rules ban animal products arriving from outside it in baggage and parcels, and the UK and Switzerland are close to them. These are the main lines:
| Item | Ruling |
|---|---|
| Meat, dairy, ghee and cheese | Banned in personal baggage and parcels |
| Plants, seedlings, seeds and soil | With a plant-health certificate |
| Medicines | A personal-use quantity with a prescription, and narcotic ones with a permit |
| Weapons and banned knives | Banned or by licence, including daggers and decorative swords in some countries |
| Loose lithium batteries, alcohol-based perfumes and pressurised cans | Not shipped by air except under a dangerous goods declaration |
| Cash, gold and original documents | Carried by hand, and cash is declared from 10,000 euros |
For the wider list see prohibited items. When an item leaves you in doubt, send us a photo of it while the carton is still open.
Door delivery from Jeddah in the cities of Europe

Our service does not end at the quay. After release the shipment moves to the city by truck, by train for long distances, or by river barge on the Rhine for containers that are not urgent. Then the crew carries it into the home and sets each piece in its room. The table lists the cities most requested from Jeddah and the port we reach them from:
| City | Nearest port | What to watch for on delivery |
|---|---|---|
| Paris | Le Havre | Old buildings with narrow stairs, and a parking permit for the truck from the municipality |
| Berlin | Hamburg | A temporary parking bay reserved in front of the building one to two weeks ahead |
| Amsterdam | Rotterdam | Canal houses have their furniture hoisted by rope and pulley through the window |
| Madrid | Valencia | An inland city, and the truck covers about 350 km to it |
| Rome | Livorno or Genoa | The city centre is a limited-traffic zone, and a small vehicle is needed |
| Vienna | Koper or Trieste | A landlocked country, and the container crosses to it on a transit document |
| Milan, Zurich and Geneva | Genoa | Switzerland clears at its border because it is outside the Union |
| London | Felixstowe or Southampton | City-centre entry charges are counted on the truck |
For delivery to go through first time we need from you the address with its postcode, the floor, whether the building has a lift, and a photo of the entrance and stairs if possible. The service is explained on the door-to-door shipping page, and our network on the shipping destinations page.
Our services for individuals, traders and companies
Our shipping solutions suit the individual who ships once in a lifetime and the trader who ships every month. The first needs someone to explain and to carry the procedure for them, and the second needs a fixed date, a tax invoice and a report for each shipment. Online shops get regular collection of their orders, companies and factories an annual contract with loading at the factory, and consulates coordination with the administrative section when their staff’s belongings are moved.
Customer service answers calls and WhatsApp from 7 am to 11 pm every day, and follows your shipment step by step until the delivery is signed for. Everything we offer is on the shipping services page.
Air freight from Jeddah to Europe

Air freight is for those after speed: parcels, urgent baggage, documents and light goods. The shipment leaves from King Abdulaziz Airport, which has flights to Frankfurt, Paris, London, Amsterdam, Madrid, Rome, Milan and others under the schedule in force, and is delivered in the European cities within 3 to 6 days door to door. Most of those days go on clearance and distribution rather than flying, as the flight itself is five to seven hours.
- Who it is for: the suitcases of students and patients, Umrah pilgrims’ gifts, commercial samples, urgent spare parts and high-value goods.
- The calculation: on the chargeable weight, which is the greater of the scale weight and the volumetric weight obtained by multiplying the dimensions in centimetres and dividing by 6000. The volumetric weight calculator gives you the figure.
- Price: from SAR 23 per kilogram to the countries of the continent, SAR 26 to the UK, and a document envelope from SAR 83.
The practical way for someone relocating: two or three cartons by air for the first days, and all the furniture by sea. Where to hand over your shipment at the airport is in the article air freight office in Jeddah, and the rest about the service on the air freight page.
Air or sea, and is there land freight to Europe?
Choosing between the two routes is a simple sum. By air you pay for each kilogram, and by sea for each cubic metre. The rough line: anything under 100 kilograms flies, anything over two cubic metres sails, and anything in between is priced both ways.
As for land, we do not rely on it for individuals’ belongings and furniture. Some commercial loads take the truck route through Turkey to the east of the continent, and we look into it on request according to the crossings operating at the time. The full comparison is on the shipping methods comparison page.
Collection from Jeddah’s districts and nearby towns
We are based in Jeddah, and we collect from all its districts. The crew arrives with its cartons and materials in Obhur, Al-Shati, Al-Mohammadiyah and Al-Naeem in the north; in Al-Rawdah, Al-Zahra, Al-Salamah, Al-Khalidiyah and Al-Hamra in the centre; in Al-Safa, Al-Faisaliyah, Al-Samer and Al-Hamdaniyah to the east; and in Al-Balad and the south of the city. Shipments from the surrounding towns are added to the port run:
| Place | Distance from Jeddah | How we collect |
|---|---|---|
| Districts of north, central and east Jeddah | Within the city | Loading from the door, with the container at the home if the street is wide enough |
| Makkah | About 80 km | From homes and hotels, at times that fit the truck entry hours |
| Thuwal and its university | About 80 km north | Belongings of returning European professors and researchers |
| Taif | About 170 km | A closed truck comes down to the Jeddah warehouse |
For anyone handing back their home before they travel, we keep the furniture packed and inventoried until loading day, and the conditions are on the storage page. The other cities we cover are on the service cities page.

Tracking and insuring the shipment
Your shipment to Europe is out of your sight for weeks, and we make up for that with two things: news at every stop, and cover for those who want it.
- Sea tracking: by the container or bill of lading number with the shipping line, showing the transhipment port if there is one and the expected berthing date.
- Air tracking: by the air waybill number, updated on take-off, landing and release. The method is on the track your shipment page.
- Insurance: full on every line or partial on the costly pieces only, as you wish, calculated as a percentage of the value written in the list.
- If something is damaged: have it written on the receipt while the crew is still there, and take photos of the item and its packing. Further terms sit on the cargo insurance page.
Shipping from Europe to Jeddah
The same route works in reverse, and most of what comes from Europe to Jeddah is spare parts, medical devices, factory equipment, furniture and lighting from Italy and Germany, and individuals’ purchases from European shops. Our agent collects from the European city and consolidates the orders into one shipment.
- By air: to King Abdulaziz Airport, then delivery in your district after clearance.
- By sea: from Genoa, Antwerp, Rotterdam or Hamburg to Jeddah Islamic Port, in a full or shared container.
- At the Kingdom’s customs: a returning resident’s used belongings are cleared as personal effects, new goods pay the duty for their item and 15% VAT, and anything subject to technical regulations is registered on the SABER platform before shipping.
The complete guide for all the Kingdom’s cities is in the article shipping from Saudi Arabia to Europe.
Tips before shipping from Jeddah to Europe
- Name the country and the city before you ask for the price; the difference between Genoa and Gothenburg is two weeks and thousands of riyals.
- Ask about the relief paper in your country before anything else, and when it is applied for: before shipping or on arrival.
- Measure sofas and wardrobes against the door and stairs of the European home before you decide to ship them.
- Write the list with the value of the items as used, not their purchase price, in English or the country’s language.
How do you choose a shipping company from Jeddah to Europe?
Anyone who says “we ship to all of Europe” and does not ask you about the country has not shipped there much. Experience on this lane shows in the questions put to you before the price. Try these questions and compare what you hear:
| What you ask about | A reassuring answer | A worrying answer |
|---|---|---|
| Legal status | A commercial registration, a contract and a stamped receipt | A transfer to a personal account with no contract |
| Arrival port | Names the port and explains why it is nearest your address | “Any port in Europe and the rest is up to you” |
| Customs | Distinguishes the Union states from the UK and Switzerland | “All of Europe is one system” |
| Relief | Asks how long you lived in the Kingdom and about your new home | “Nothing is paid on used goods” |
| After the port | A known agent in the country, with delivery and unloading | “You collect from the port” at the end of the line |
Common mistakes when shipping from Jeddah to Europe
- Asking for “the Europe price” without naming the country, then comparing figures for different destinations.
- Choosing the port that is cheapest to sail to and paying several times the difference in the haulage after it.
- Shipping the container before applying for the relief permit in a country that requires it in advance.
- Slipping new boxed appliances among the used furniture, so that tax is charged on them and the rest is delayed.
- Putting ghee, cheese and dried meat in the kitchen cartons.
- Shipping a car without knowing its duty, its tax and its registration test in the country of arrival.
- Writing “personal effects” in the list instead of naming the contents of each carton.

Frequently asked questions about international shipping from Jeddah to Europe
What is the best shipping company from Jeddah to Europe?
It is the company that will not quote before it knows the country and the city, because “Europe” to a shipper means dozens of countries and ports. Home Safe is an establishment with commercial registration 4030601060; it collects from your district in Jeddah, picks the European port from your address rather than from the price list, and delivers inside the home through an agent in the country of arrival who handles the clearance.
How much does shipping from Jeddah to Europe cost?
An air kilogram starts from SAR 23 to the continent and SAR 26 to the UK, a document envelope from SAR 83, and a parcel of up to 5 kilograms from SAR 110. By sea, part-load furniture starts from SAR 5,500, a full container to the west and north of the continent from SAR 11,000, and a saloon car on RoRo from SAR 2,800. The final figure is set by the country, the city and the floor.
How long does shipping from Jeddah to Europe take?
By air, 3 to 6 days to the address. By sea the time changes with the coast: the ports of Italy, Spain and southern France are reached door to door in 18 to 32 days, the ports of the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany in 25 to 40 days, and Sweden and Poland in 30 to 42 days.
Which European port does my container from Jeddah go to?
To the one nearest your address by truck, not the one nearest Jeddah by ship. Rotterdam for the Netherlands, western Germany and Switzerland by the Rhine; Hamburg for northern and eastern Germany and Czechia; Antwerp for Belgium, Luxembourg and northern France; Genoa for northern Italy, Switzerland and Austria.
Is a shipment cleared once for all of Europe?
Inside the European Union, yes. Goods whose duty and tax were paid in one member state then move between the twenty-seven countries with no further customs. The UK, Switzerland and Norway each have their own customs and their own forms, and a shipment crossing EU territory to reach them travels on a transit document and is cleared at their border.
Do I pay customs on my used furniture in Europe?
Not if you are moving your residence to the European country, on conditions: you lived outside it for at least 12 months, you used your belongings for 6 months before the move, and you bring them in within 12 months of arriving. That is the rule applied in the EU states, and the UK and Switzerland are close to it with different forms. Anyone the relief does not cover pays the duty for the item and the VAT of the country.
Do you ship cars from Jeddah to Europe?
Yes, in two ways. RoRo: the car is driven onto the vessel’s deck uncovered and lashed by its wheels, starting from SAR 2,800 for a saloon. Container: the car is secured inside and sealed, which suits luxury and classic cars. Before booking we review the import conditions of the country of arrival with you, because the duty, the tax and the inspection there weigh more than the sea freight.
Can a Gulf-specification car be registered in Europe?
In most countries yes, but after an individual approval that checks the lamps, the emissions and the manufacturer’s data and may ask for changes. The UK, Ireland, Cyprus and Malta drive on the left with the wheel on the right, so a Saudi car is accepted there on extra conditions. That is why we ask about the model and the year of manufacture before we book it a place.
What is the difference between a full container and a part load?
A full container is yours alone; it is filled at your home in Jeddah, sealed, and opened only at your address. In a part load you share the container with other shipments and pay only for your cubic metres, and it adds about a week for consolidation and sorting. The point where the two costs meet is around 15 cubic metres.
Do the prices include customs clearance?
We write what the price covers line by line: collection and packing, the export declaration in Jeddah, the sea or air freight, clearance in the country of arrival, and delivery and unloading. The European duties and taxes themselves are paid directly to that country’s customs if they fall due, and we estimate them for you in advance so they do not surprise you.
Is there insurance on the shipment?
Yes, and it is optional. It is calculated as a percentage of the value you yourself write against each line of the packing list, and it covers loss and damage from the door in Jeddah to the European door. We recommend it for a furniture container and for a car, since the sea and air carrier’s compensation is limited by weight and does not reach the value of costly pieces.
What cannot be shipped from Jeddah to Europe?
Meat, dairy, ghee, cheese and anything made from them; plants and seeds without a plant-health certificate; counterfeit goods; medicines beyond personal use; and banned weapons and knives. Loose lithium batteries and alcohol-based perfumes in quantity do not fly. And we do not ship Zamzam water as cargo.
Do you ship the luggage of Hajj and Umrah pilgrims who came from Europe?
Yes, and it is among the most common shipments out of Jeddah. We collect the cartons from the hotel in Jeddah or Makkah before the return flight, and ship them by air if they are light or by sea in a shared crate if they are many.
Is there land freight from Jeddah to Europe?
For individuals’ furniture and belongings we do not rely on it. The road crosses several countries and many borders, and a sea container arrives sealed at a lower cost. Some commercial loads go by truck through Turkey to the Balkans and the east of the continent, and we look at them case by case according to the crossings open at the time of shipping.
Do you collect shipments from Europe to Jeddah?
Yes. Our agent collects from the home, the shop or the factory in the European city and consolidates your purchases from more than one seller, and they are shipped by air to King Abdulaziz Airport or by sea to Jeddah Islamic Port. New goods pay the duty for their item and 15% VAT in the Kingdom, and a returning resident’s used belongings are cleared as personal effects.
