Sea route: your district in Jeddah → Jeddah Islamic Port → the Red Sea and Suez Canal → the port of Genoa → rail or truck through the Alps → your address in Switzerland · Expected time: 25–32 days by sea, 3–6 days by air.
In brief
- From where to where: collection from Jeddah’s districts and surroundings, delivery to the front door in Geneva, Lausanne, Lugano and the other cantons.
- The two methods: sea and air. Sea for furniture, antiques and cars; air for parcels and valuable pieces.
- Arrival port: Genoa in Italy, then rail or truck, in a full or shared container.
- Jeddah’s advantage: the port and the airport are inside the city, so a container loaded in the morning spends the night on the quay.
- Customs: Switzerland is outside the European Union, its VAT is 8.1%, and clearance is done there once.
- Starting prices: a part load from SAR 5,500, a container for a whole home from SAR 11,000, and air from SAR 23 a kilogram.

Who ships from Jeddah to Switzerland, and what do they send?
Most of those who ask for this route in Jeddah are families who spend the summer on Lake Geneva or in Lugano and own a flat there or rent one for years. After them come families moving their residence, then students at the hotel schools in Lausanne and Montreux, then patients who stay for months near the clinics, then Jeddah traders exporting dates and perfumes. Each of these has a different shipment and a different door at Swiss customs.
| Shipper | Usual shipment | Method | Their door at customs |
|---|---|---|---|
| A family with a summer home | Majlis seating, carpets, antiques, paintings and a piano | Shared container or a 20ft container | Second-home furnishings on form 18.44 |
| A family moving its residence | The whole household and the car | 40ft container | Removal goods on form 18.44 |
| A hotel-school or university student | Cartons of clothes, books and a computer | Shared container or air | Used study materials |
| A patient and companion | Suitcases and personal medical devices | Air | Personal effects with a medical report |
| A Jeddah trader | Dates, perfumes, carpets and samples | Container, samples by air | Commercial import with invoice and origin |
| A collector of antiques and watches | One or two high-value pieces | Air in a special crate | Declaration of value and type of piece |
That is why we start with a question about your position there before we ask about the belongings: do you live in Switzerland, do you own a home there that you visit, or are you sending to someone else? The answer decides which documents we ask you for, and whether tax is paid or not.
The shipping route from Jeddah to Switzerland and how long it takes
A sea shipment uses three modes: a short truck run inside Jeddah, then a ship to Italy, then a train or truck that climbs with it to Switzerland. The reason is that Switzerland has no coast, so a port in a neighbouring country is unavoidable. The time we quote starts on loading day at your home and ends with delivery, and this is how it breaks down for a private container:
| Stage | What happens | Usual time |
|---|---|---|
| Packing and loading in Jeddah | Dismantling, wrapping and inventory, then sealing the container outside the house | One day, two for a large home |
| From the district to the quay | A run across town to Jeddah Islamic Port | One to two hours |
| Export and waiting for the ship | The export declaration and the cut-off date | 3–5 days |
| Sailing to Genoa | The northern Red Sea, the Suez Canal, the western Mediterranean | 8–12 days |
| The port of Genoa | Discharging the container and opening the customs transit document | 2–4 days |
| Crossing the Alps | A train to northern Switzerland, or a truck via Chiasso | One to 3 days |
| Swiss customs | The declaration and review of the form, or payment of the tax | One to 3 days |
| Delivery | Carrying in, unloading and assembly | One to two days |
And this is the door-to-door time of each method, so you can compare them before fixing your travel date:
| Method | Time | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Private container via Genoa | 25–32 days | A whole home, or furniture with a car |
| Shared container via Genoa | 32–45 days | A few pieces, cartons and a student’s belongings |
| A car in a container or by RoRo | 28–40 days | Private and classic cars |
| Air from King Abdulaziz Airport | 3–6 days | Parcels, small antiques and urgent items |
What lengthens the time?
- A change of ship: some lines do not sail from Jeddah to Genoa directly, so the container is moved to another vessel at an intermediate Mediterranean port.
- Jeddah’s seasons: before Hajj and at the end of Ramadan the port and the roads leading to it are congested, so the loading slot is booked earlier.
- Snow in the Alps: winter storms can close a mountain crossing for a day or two, and the train is less affected than the truck.
- The truck ban: the practice in Switzerland is that heavy trucks do not run at night or on Sundays and public holidays.
- A missing paper: a form without an original signature or a shortened inventory holds up the release until it is completed.
Times for other destinations are on the transit times page.
From Jeddah to the port of Genoa, then Switzerland through the Alps

Genoa is the port we use for Jeddah shipments to Switzerland in most cases. It is the nearest large container port to the Swiss border from the south, and the ship reaches it after the Suez Canal without going round Europe. Two ways lead from it to Switzerland: a railway that leaves from the port quay, and a motorway heading north towards Milan and then the border.
| Your destination in Switzerland | The way from Genoa | Approximate distance | Usual mode |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lugano and the canton of Ticino | Milan, then the Chiasso crossing | About 200 km | A truck that arrives in one day |
| Zurich and Lucerne | Chiasso, then the Gotthard tunnel | About 420 km | Rail or truck |
| Basel and northern Switzerland | A rail line from the port of Genoa to a terminal near Basel | About 500 km | A container train with several departures a week |
| Geneva, Lausanne and Montreux | The Aosta Valley and the western Alpine tunnels, or via northern Switzerland | About 400 km | Truck, with the route chosen by season |
The container is not opened in Italy. It is sealed in Jeddah and crosses Italian territory on a customs transit document opened in Genoa and closed at the Swiss customs office. So no European Union duty is paid on it, and it is cleared in Switzerland alone. The container train between Genoa and northern Switzerland changes its timings and number of departures, so we confirm the current schedule on booking day. The ports we work from are on the ports and gateways page.
The price of shipping from Jeddah to Switzerland
Your price is made up of four items: collection and packing in Jeddah, the ship or aircraft, the transit from Genoa to Switzerland, then clearance and delivery there. The first item is lighter in Jeddah than in any other city, because the quay is a run across town away. These are the figures our services start from:
| Shipment | Method | Price starts from |
|---|---|---|
| Pieces of furniture and belongings | Shared container via Genoa | SAR 5,500 |
| A whole home | Private 20ft or 40ft container | SAR 11,000 |
| A saloon car | RoRo to a European port | SAR 2,800 |
| A car in a closed container to Switzerland | 20ft container | Set on request by canton |
| Parcels, suitcases and small antiques | Air from King Abdulaziz Airport | SAR 23 a kilogram |
| Documents | Express | SAR 83 |
| A piano or an antique in a wooden crate | Sea or air | Set on request after a survey |
| Commercial goods | Container from Jeddah port | Set on request by sailing date |
Market prices on this route are very far apart. For air freight, figures between SAR 40 and 95 a kilogram are offered for small parcels, some reach SAR 250 a kilogram, and SAR 400 a kilogram for sensitive equipment. A sea rate from SAR 4,500 is quoted for a car. A 20ft container is advertised from SAR 2,000, which is a figure for the sea freight alone, leaving out the transit from the European port, the clearance and the delivery. We found no one publishing a price from Jeddah to the door in Switzerland, which is why we send you the price itemised.
| Factor | How it changes the price |
|---|---|
| Volume in cubic metres | The basis of the sea price. Estimate it with the CBM calculator before you call |
| Chargeable weight | The basis of the air price, the higher of actual and volumetric |
| The Swiss address | Lugano is the closest address to Genoa, and a mountain chalet the farthest and hardest to reach |
| Type of pieces | Antiques, pianos and marble need wooden crates made for them |
| Floor and lift | In Jeddah and in Switzerland alike, and an outside hoist may be needed |
| Season | At the start of summer and before the academic year, ships and aircraft fill up |
How do you bring the cost down?
- Ship summer furniture in spring, before the route gets busy with travellers.
- Put the whole family’s belongings in one shipment rather than three small ones.
- Send the heavy things by sea and leave for air only what you need in your first week.
- Prepare the exemption file before loading: the tax it saves is larger than any discount on freight.
- Do not ship what is easy to buy there at a similar price, such as large electrical appliances.
Everything else that affects the price is on the pricing factors page.
Does the price differ by Swiss town?
Yes, but the difference lies in one item: haulage from Genoa to the address. The sea freight from Jeddah is fixed whatever your town, and what changes is the kilometres after the port and how easy the building is to reach:
| Town | Position relative to Genoa | Effect on the price |
|---|---|---|
| Lugano | The closest, just behind the Italian border | The lowest transit item |
| Zurich | Mid-distance, on the Gotthard axis | A medium transit item, and a regular train |
| Geneva and Lausanne | The far west, behind the western Alps | A higher transit item than Lugano |
| Basel and Bern | The north and the centre | The train lowers the cost of a heavy container |
| Mountain resorts | Narrow roads, some car-free | A small vehicle or local carrier, priced on request |
What sets shipping from Jeddah apart?
Jeddah is the only Saudi city on this route where the port, the airport and the customer’s home come together. Jeddah Islamic Port is on the Red Sea, and a ship from it heads straight north to Suez. King Abdulaziz International Airport is in the north of the city, with direct flights to Geneva and Zurich according to the current schedule. So there is no long road leg before the international trip, and no day lost on the road.
- Loading and cut-off the same day: the container reaches your home at dawn and enters the port before evening.
- Coastal humidity: Jeddah furniture is wrapped while saturated with moisture, so we add absorbent materials inside the wrapping and the container.
- Truck hours: the movement of heavy trucks inside Jeddah is governed by hours set by the traffic department, and we confirm those in force before loading day.
- The old districts: the lanes of Al-Balad and Al-Kandarah cannot take a container, so we carry from them in a small vehicle to a nearby loading point.
Our other services from the city are in the article International shipping companies in Jeddah.
Moving furniture and antiques from Jeddah to Switzerland

Jeddah homes that ship to Switzerland usually contain pieces that cannot be replaced: a tailor-made Arabic majlis, hand-knotted carpets, paintings, crystal chandeliers and sometimes a piano. These pieces will move from Red Sea humidity to dry air and central heating in the Swiss winter. So each piece has its method, and all of them are recorded in a numbered inventory:
| Piece | How we prepare it | What you should know |
|---|---|---|
| Antiques, vases and crystal | Wooden crates for antiques built to size, with foam lining on every side | The piece is photographed and its condition noted before closing |
| The piano | Special piano packing: lid locked, pedals secured, padded wrap and an upright crate | It is left for some weeks in its new home and then tuned |
| Paintings and mirrors | Corner protectors, acid-free paper on the painted surface and a flat crate | They travel standing, not lying down |
| Hand-knotted carpets | Cleaning and drying, then rolling on a tube with a moisture-proof cover | Never folded, and never shipped damp |
| Solid and inlaid wood | Blankets and then corrugated board, with no adhesive tape on the surface | It reacts to dryness, so keep it away from the radiator in the first weeks |
| Marble and glass | A wooden frame carrying the slab upright on its edge | The table top is separated from its base |
| Bedrooms and wardrobes | Dismantled, with each piece’s screws in a bag bearing its number | Measure the lift of the Swiss building before shipping a large wardrobe |
The inventory is not an internal paper. It is the document Swiss customs reads line by line, so we write it in English and give each piece its number, description and approximate value. Electricity there is 230 volts and the socket has three round pins, so some of your appliances need an adaptor. Service details are on the furniture shipping page, and wrapping methods in the packing guide.
Antiques and works of art: what Jeddah asks and what Switzerland asks
A work of art passes two authorities, each with a condition. On leaving the Kingdom, archaeological and heritage pieces are exported only with a permit from the authority responsible for heritage, so if you have an old piece of historical value, tell us before packing. On entry, the practice in Switzerland is that cultural property is declared in the customs declaration with its type and origin, and that anything which left its country unlawfully does not enter. We check what is in force with both authorities before the crate is closed.
- An ordinary household antique: enters with the home’s furniture if you have used it, and is listed with a clear description.
- A high-value painting or piece: is accompanied by proof of its source, such as the purchase invoice or the gallery certificate.
- Ivory, mother-of-pearl and reptile leather: need an endangered-species certificate, the keys of an old piano included.
- A recently bought piece: is not used belongings, so VAT is paid on it.
Relief for removal goods and second-home furnishings (form 18.44)
Swiss customs exempts used furniture from duty and tax in two cases that matter to Jeddah customers: someone moving their residence to Switzerland, and someone who buys or rents a home there for holidays while living in the Kingdom. In both cases the request is made on form 18.44. This is the practice in force, and the two cases differ in the details:
| Item | Moving residence | Second-home owner |
|---|---|---|
| Who it is | Has transferred their place of residence to Switzerland | Lives in Jeddah and has a home bought or rented long term |
| Use condition | At least six months before the move | At least six months before shipping |
| Timing | With the move, and later consignments are listed on the form | Close to the signing of the purchase or tenancy contract |
| Proof | Residence permit, tenancy or employment contract, and the municipal registration certificate | The purchase or tenancy contract |
| The car | Enters under the relief if used for six months | Not covered by the relief |
| Outside the relief | New items in their boxes, and alcohol and tobacco above the limit | New items, and anything shipped long after the contract |
The form is submitted with an original signature, not a copy, along with the inventory and passport copies. And because most of our Jeddah customers are second-home owners, we draw attention to the timing condition in particular: someone who bought a flat years ago and wants to furnish it today may not qualify. We confirm the conditions in force with Swiss customs before booking.
A full or a shared container from Jeddah port?
A full container is yours alone, sealed outside your home and opened only in Switzerland. A shared one gathers your shipment with other people’s in a warehouse in Jeddah, is then sorted in a European warehouse, and each shipment finishes by truck. The first is faster with less handling, the second cheaper for a small volume. The dividing line between them is usually 15 cubic metres:
| Comparison | Full container | Shared container |
|---|---|---|
| Price starts from | SAR 11,000 for a whole home | SAR 5,500 for pieces of furniture and belongings |
| Time via Genoa | 25–32 days | 32–45 days |
| Number of handlings | Two: in Jeddah and on delivery | Four or more |
| Antiques and pianos | The safest choice | Possible, provided there is a wooden crate |
| Capacity | 20ft about 28 cubic metres, 40ft about 58 | From one cubic metre |
Before you choose, look at the container sizes, see what a container costs on the Jeddah quay in the article Container shipping prices from Jeddah, then read about the sea freight service.
Shipping parcels, baggage and holidaymakers’ suitcases
In May and June one request multiplies in Jeddah: suitcases and cartons that go ahead of the family to the summer home. Clothes, spices, coffee and dates, children’s toys, and kitchen items you will not find there. We ship them by air from SAR 23 a kilogram if the trip is near, or by sea in a shared container if two months remain before travel.
- Collection: from the front door in Jeddah, weighed and measured in front of you.
- The address: the consignee’s name as in the passport, street, number and postcode, and a Swiss phone that answers.
- Statement of contents: item by item with the value; the phrase “personal items” is not enough for Swiss customs.
- Food: dates, coffee and spices pass; meat and dairy do not enter in personal parcels.
- Gifts: what one individual sends another passes untaxed as long as its value stays within 100 francs, under the practice there.
The service conditions are on the parcel shipping page.
Shipping commercial goods and sensitive equipment from Jeddah
A Jeddah trader exports to Switzerland small, high-value quantities more often than full containers. The practice in force is that Switzerland has abolished customs duty on industrial products and kept it on agricultural and food products, mostly calculated by weight. VAT is paid on every import: 8.1% on most goods, and 2.6% on food, books and medicines.
| Goods | How they are shipped | Their particular document |
|---|---|---|
| Dates | Cartons in a dry or refrigerated container, shop orders by air | Certificate of origin, and a label in the canton’s language |
| Perfumes and incense | By sea for quantities; alcohol-based perfume is restricted on aircraft | Material safety data sheet |
| Oud and its oil | Small documented quantities | Endangered-species certificate for a commercial quantity |
| Carpets and handicrafts | Rolls and crates in a shared container | An invoice stating the material and country of manufacture |
| Medical and laboratory devices | By air in a padded crate with a shock indicator | Temporary admission if they are going for servicing and return |
| Samples and exhibition materials | By air | A samples invoice, or a temporary admission document |
Sensitive equipment ships in a padded wooden crate carrying a label that reveals tipping and dropping. Much of it travels to its Swiss manufacturer for calibration and then returns to Jeddah, so we declare it under temporary admission to avoid tax being paid on its value. Details are on the commercial shipping page.
Car shipping from Jeddah to Switzerland
A car leaves Jeddah port in one of two ways. By RoRo it is driven on to the ship and comes off at a European port set by the available line, then rides a car transporter to the Swiss border, with the price starting from SAR 2,800 to the port. In a container it is lashed by its wheels and sealed, passes through Genoa and continues to Switzerland with nobody touching it.
| Item | RoRo | Closed container |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Starts from SAR 2,800 for a saloon to the port | Set on request by canton |
| Protection | The car is uncovered inside the ship’s deck | Closed and sealed from Jeddah |
| Belongings inside it | Not allowed; it ships empty | Belongings can travel with it in the container |
| Suits | A working everyday car | Luxury and classic cars, and a mover’s car with the furniture |
Before you ship, ask about three things in Switzerland. First, tax: the practice is a 4% automobile tax and 8.1% VAT, and the car of someone moving their residence who has used it for six months is exempt from both. Second, the technical inspection in the canton, which may ask for changes to lighting and emissions on a Gulf-specification car. Third, the customs inspection report 13.20 A, which is a condition for Swiss plates. We confirm the rates and forms in force before loading. The comparison is on the RoRo car shipping and container car shipping pages, and the general explanation in the article Car shipping from Saudi Arabia.
Swiss customs and the documents required
Switzerland is not a member of the European Union, so its customs is independent and its forms are its own. A Jeddah shipment is cleared at a border office such as Chiasso for those bound for the south, or at an inland office near the address. Customs offices work on weekdays, so we do not schedule a container of household effects to arrive on a Saturday or Sunday. These are the papers for each type:
| Shipment | Documents | Expected tax |
|---|---|---|
| Removal goods | Signed form 18.44, the inventory, passports, the residence permit and the housing contract | Nothing if the conditions are met |
| Second-home furnishings | Form 18.44, the inventory, the passport and the purchase or tenancy contract | Nothing if the conditions are met, otherwise 8.1% on the value |
| A parcel or gift | A statement of contents and value, and the consignee’s address and phone | On the consignee above the exemption limit |
| Commercial goods | Commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin and bill of lading | VAT, and duty on foodstuffs |
| A car | The registration, the export certificate and the purchase invoice | 4% then 8.1% unless exempt |
We review the whole file in Jeddah before the container moves, because correcting a paper while the container sits in Genoa means storage charges every day. Each document is explained on the shipping documents page, and the release steps on the customs clearance page.
What cannot be shipped from Jeddah to Switzerland or needs a permit
Some of what people put in cartons in good faith is seized at the Swiss border, and some is barred from leaving the Kingdom in the first place. We go through the list with you during packing, and these are the main items under the rules in force:
| Item | Ruling |
|---|---|
| Zamzam water | Not shipped as cargo; its export is limited to the traveller’s pack |
| Archaeological and heritage pieces | With an export permit from the competent authority in the Kingdom |
| Counterfeit watches and bags | Seized and destroyed, even a single piece |
| Meat and dairy | Do not enter in personal shipments from outside Europe |
| Ivory, oud and leather of endangered species | With the international convention certificate |
| Medicines | Enough for personal need for about a month, with the prescription |
| Weapons and their parts | With a prior Swiss licence |
| Narcotics and radar detectors | Prohibited |
| Batteries, perfumes and aerosols | Restricted on aircraft, and shipped by sea |
The general prohibited items for all destinations are on the prohibited items page.
Delivering shipments from Jeddah in Geneva, Lausanne and Lugano

Most delivery addresses for Jeddah customers are on the two shores of Lake Geneva and in southern Switzerland, then Zurich. After release the shipment goes out on a small distribution truck, with a crew that unloads, carries the pieces up, assembles what was dismantled and takes the packing materials away. These are the towns we deliver to and what is particular to each:
| Town | Language | What is particular on delivery day |
|---|---|---|
| Geneva | French | City-centre buildings with limited parking, so the truck’s space is reserved ahead |
| Lausanne | French | A city on a slope with many stepped entrances, so we send a larger crew |
| Montreux and Vevey | French | Flats overlooking the lake, served in one trip with Lausanne |
| Lugano and southern Switzerland | Italian | The first reached by anything coming from Genoa, with Locarno and Bellinzona |
| Zurich and Zug | German | The largest air cargo airport, and the container reaches it by rail |
| Basel and Bern | German | The container terminal in the north, and the capital and seat of the embassies |
| Gstaad, Crans-Montana and Verbier | French and German | Mountain chalets on narrow roads, and a small vehicle in winter |
Before delivery day we ask you for three things: permission for the truck to park from the municipality or the building management, the size of the lift and the flat door, and the name of whoever will receive the crew if you are not there.
Our services for individuals, companies, government bodies and embassies
The service is one at its core, and its details change with the owner of the shipment. This is what we provide for each:
- Individuals and families: collection from home, packing, shipping, clearance and assembly at the Swiss address, at one itemised price.
- Companies and establishments: shipping goods, office equipment and samples, with a recurring contract at an agreed price for those who ship every month.
- Government bodies: documents, printed matter and materials for exhibition and conference stands in Geneva, with handover records.
- Embassies and consulates: the belongings of a diplomat transferred between Jeddah and Bern or Geneva, with the documents their authority requires.
Is there land freight from Jeddah to Switzerland?
We do not rely on a full overland route for private belongings on this lane. The road passes through many countries and several borders, and neither its time nor its cost competes with the sea. The truck’s role with us is at the two ends: a closed truck from your Jeddah district to the port or airport, and a truck or train from Genoa to the Swiss address. If you are offered “land freight to Switzerland”, ask for the route in detail before you pay. Our land service within the Kingdom and the Gulf is on the land freight page.
Air freight from Jeddah to Switzerland

The aircraft is the way for antiques, valuable parcels and anything that cannot bear a month at sea. The shipment leaves from King Abdulaziz International Airport and reaches Geneva or Zurich airport in 3 to 6 days including clearance, then we deliver it to the address. The price starts from SAR 23 a kilogram, and documents from SAR 83. Between Jeddah and both Geneva and Zurich there are direct flights of about six hours, and their days change with the current schedule.
| Arrival airport | Serves | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Geneva | Geneva, Lausanne, Montreux and western Switzerland | The closest to lake addresses |
| Zurich | Zurich, Bern, Basel and Lucerne | The largest cargo airport in Switzerland |
| Milan, then truck | Lugano and Ticino | An option for the south under a transit document, when its date is nearer |
- What goes by air: insured watches and jewellery, paintings, precision devices, samples, suitcases and documents.
- Chargeable weight: we measure and weigh the crate at your home, and it is billed on the larger of the two figures. Try the volumetric weight calculator before we come.
- The crate: wooden and made to size for an antique, a double-wall carton for the rest, and tape that reveals any opening.
- Collection: from your home in Jeddah in the morning, and the parcel enters the airport the same day if its papers are complete.
The service is on the air freight page, and our office in the article Air freight office in Jeddah.
Collection from Jeddah’s districts and nearby towns
We collect from every district of Jeddah at a time you set, and from the towns around it on a run arranged before cut-off day. The district’s location decides the size of the vehicle and when it can enter:
| Area | Districts or towns | Note |
|---|---|---|
| North Jeddah | Obhur North and South, Al-Shati, Al-Mohammadiyah, Al-Naeem, Al-Basateen | Spacious villas a container can enter, and close to the airport |
| Central Jeddah | Al-Rawdah, Al-Khalidiyah, Al-Zahra, Al-Salamah, Al-Andalus, Al-Hamra | Apartment buildings, and we reserve a space in front of the entrance |
| East Jeddah | Al-Safa, Al-Marwah, Al-Nuzhah, Al-Rabwah, Al-Faisaliyah | Morning loading before the traffic |
| South Jeddah and Al-Balad | Al-Balad, Al-Kandarah, Al-Baghdadiyah, Al-Sanabel, Al-Ajaweed | The closest to the port, and a small vehicle for the old lanes |
| North of the governorate | Dhahban, Thuwal, King Abdullah Economic City, Rabigh | Rabigh is about 150 km, collected a day before cut-off |
| Makkah | About 80 km | Truck entry at regulated hours that tighten in the seasons |
| Taif | About 170 km | A closed truck to Jeddah the same day |
| Madinah and Yanbu | About 420 km and 330 km | Carried to Jeddah port before the sailing date |
Temporary storage and door-to-door shipping
Dates often fail to match: you hand over your Jeddah home at the end of the month, and the Lausanne flat is not available for another six weeks. Or the purchase contract in Lugano completes after we have packed the furniture. In such cases we keep the shipment in our Jeddah warehouse, wrapped, inventoried and numbered, and it goes out to the port when the date nears. The warehouse is close to the quay, so releasing it takes no more than one run. Either way the service stays door to door: one number to call, and one price whose items are known. Details are on the storage and door-to-door shipping pages.
Steps for shipping from Jeddah to Switzerland
- The request: you send photos of the belongings and your Jeddah district, and the Swiss town and its postcode.
- The survey: a short visit to the home if it holds antiques, a piano or large pieces.
- Price and plan: the shipping method, the sailing or flight date, and the four price items.
- The customs file: form 18.44 or the goods invoice, and the inventory in English.
- Packing and loading: at your home, with every piece numbered and photographed.
- Port or airport: the export declaration, then the bill of lading and tracking number.
- Genoa and the Alpine crossing: a transit document, then rail or truck to Swiss customs.
- Delivery: unloading and assembly, and checking the pieces against the list before signing.
Tracking the shipment and insuring it
A trip with a ship, a train and a truck needs someone to pull its news together. We give you one reference number and notify you on WhatsApp at five points: entry to Jeddah port, the sailing, arrival at Genoa, crossing of the Swiss border, and release. You can also search yourself with the container number on the shipping line’s website, as on the track your shipment page.
Insurance is optional, and its premium is a percentage of the value you declare. We strongly recommend it when the shipment includes antiques, a piano or a car, and for rare pieces we ask for a detailed list of values and photos before packing. The terms are on the cargo insurance page.
Shipping from Switzerland to Jeddah
At the end of summer the direction of demand reverses. Jeddah families return with purchases of watches, appliances, winter clothes and chocolate, and students who have finished their studies ship their belongings. Our partner collects from the Swiss address, and the container sails from Genoa to Jeddah Islamic Port, or parcels are flown to King Abdulaziz Airport. In Jeddah we clear and deliver to the home. New purchases pay Saudi duty and VAT, while for a returning resident’s used personal effects we check the exemption conditions before shipping.
Other destinations we ship to from Jeddah: the Gulf, Europe and the rest
The Switzerland lane is one of many that leave Jeddah. To the Gulf states we ship by land in closed trucks and by air, with details in the article Shipping from Saudi Arabia to the Gulf states. To Europe we ship by sea and air to Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria and the UK, which you will find in the article Shipping from Saudi Arabia to Europe. The other Arab and international destinations are on the destinations page.
Tips before shipping from Jeddah to Switzerland
- Ask for the floor plan of the Swiss flat and the size of its lift before choosing the pieces.
- Photograph every antique and painting from all four sides, and keep their purchase invoices.
- Do not wrap carpets and upholstery on a humid day without drying them.
- Write your Swiss phone number and full address on every carton.
- Separate what you want by air from what goes by sea before the packing crew arrives.
- Book five weeks before you travel if you want the furniture to arrive ahead of you.
- Update the WhatsApp number on which tracking notices reach you while you are outside the Kingdom.
How do you choose a shipping company from Jeddah to Switzerland?
Compare companies by what they write to you, not by what they say on the phone. Ask for the price in writing with its items, and ask about the European port and the name of the service after it. Whoever knows this lane answers you about Genoa, the Alps and the Swiss form without hesitation. This comparison sums up the difference:
| The question | A reassuring answer | An answer that calls for caution |
|---|---|---|
| Where is the container landed? | In Genoa, then rail or truck to Switzerland | “At the port of Switzerland” |
| How far does your price go? | To the flat door, with a statement of what it covers | One figure with no items |
| What about tax? | They ask about your residence and housing contract and mention form 18.44 | “No customs on furniture” |
| How are antiques packed? | A made-to-size wooden crate and photos before closing | “Blankets and cartons like the rest” |
| Who delivers there? | A Swiss partner who unloads and assembles | “You collect it from the port” |
Common mistakes when shipping from Jeddah to Switzerland
- Furnishing a flat bought years ago and expecting the same relief that is granted when the contract is signed.
- Shipping a piano or paintings in a shared container without a wooden crate.
- Writing “household furniture” in the list instead of describing each piece and its value.
- Putting Zamzam water or a heritage piece in the container without asking about it.
- Fixing the delivery date on a Sunday, when trucks there are at a standstill.
- Shipping a wardrobe or corner sofa that will not pass through the lift of the Swiss building.
- Comparing a price that ends at the port of Genoa with a price that ends at the flat door.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Jeddah to Switzerland
How much does shipping from Jeddah to Switzerland cost?
An air kilogram starts from SAR 23, urgent documents from SAR 83, a saloon car by sea from SAR 2,800, pieces of furniture in a shared container from SAR 5,500, and a whole home in a private container from SAR 11,000. What changes from one customer to the next is the distance between Genoa and the Swiss address. Your price on 0552803439.
How long does a shipment from Jeddah take to reach Switzerland?
A private container routed through the port of Genoa needs 25 to 32 days from the moment it is loaded in your Jeddah district until it is opened in front of the consignee. A shared container needs 32 to 45 days because it is consolidated and then sorted. An air shipment from King Abdulaziz Airport takes 3 to 6 days including Swiss clearance.
Why does a Jeddah shipment go through Genoa and not a port in northern Europe?
Because Genoa is the first large port facing a ship that leaves the Suez Canal for the western Mediterranean, and the sailing to it from Jeddah is between 8 and 12 days. Going round to the North Sea adds about a week. From Genoa, Lugano is about 200 km away and Geneva and Lausanne about 400 km.
What is the best way to ship from Jeddah to Switzerland?
It follows what you are sending and your date. A painting, a watch or a suitcase you need this week belongs on the aircraft. A lounge suite, a majlis, a piano and a car belong in a container via Genoa. Many Jeddah families combine the two.
What are the cheapest international shipping options from Jeddah to Switzerland?
The shared container, for anyone whose belongings are small in volume: you pay for your own cubic metres and split the sea freight with others. Once the volume nears 15 cubic metres, a private 20ft container becomes cheaper per metre and faster.
How much does it cost to ship small parcels from Jeddah to Switzerland?
From SAR 23 per chargeable kilogram by air freight, with a minimum charge for a single parcel, and an envelope or document file from SAR 83. The chargeable weight is the greater of the scale weight and the volumetric weight, so a roomy, light gift box is charged by its size.
How do I find the price for shipping large goods or a car from Jeddah to Switzerland?
Send us on WhatsApp the list of goods with dimensions, or photos of the car and its model, and tell us the Swiss town and postcode. We reply the same day with a price split into parts: Jeddah to Genoa, then the Alpine transit, then clearance and delivery. A car starts from SAR 2,800.
Do I pay tax on furniture I ship to my summer home in Switzerland?
Under Swiss customs practice, someone who buys or rents a home long term while remaining resident outside Switzerland brings in used furniture free of duty, provided it has been used for at least six months and is shipped close to the signing of the contract. The request is made on the same form 18.44. It does not cover cars or new furniture. We confirm the current conditions before loading.
Do you ship pianos, antiques and paintings from Jeddah?
Yes. A piano has its lid locked and pedals secured, is wrapped and then placed in an upright wooden crate. Antiques and paintings get crates built to their size. Two cautions: a heritage or archaeological piece leaves the Kingdom only with a permit from the competent authority, and an old piano with ivory keys needs an endangered-species certificate.
Can I ship my car from Jeddah to Switzerland?
Yes, in a closed container sealed in Jeddah that stays sealed up to Swiss customs, or by RoRo to a European port from SAR 2,800 and then on a car transporter. The car of someone moving their residence, used by them for six months, enters with their belongings under the exemption. Others pay the 4% automobile tax and 8.1% VAT, then go through technical inspection in the canton.
What documents are needed to ship from Jeddah to Switzerland?
For furniture and belongings: a passport copy, a numbered inventory in English or one of Switzerland’s official languages, form 18.44 with an original signature, and the tenancy agreement or title deed. For goods: a commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin. For a car: the registration, the export certificate from the traffic department and the purchase invoice.
Is there land freight from Jeddah to Switzerland?
We do not rely on a full overland route between Jeddah and Switzerland. Our trucks work at the two ends of the trip only: from your home to Jeddah port or airport, and then from the port of Genoa or the rail terminal to the Swiss address. What lies between is sea or air.
Do you collect from Makkah, Taif and the coastal towns?
Yes. We collect from Makkah, Taif, Rabigh, Thuwal, King Abdullah Economic City, Yanbu and Madinah, and the shipment is carried in a closed truck to Jeddah port or airport.
Is insurance available, and how do I follow my shipment?
Insurance is optional at a percentage of the value you declare; the market quotes between 1% and 3%, and we recommend it for antiques, pianos and cars in particular. Tracking is by container number on the shipping line’s website or by air waybill number, along with a message from us at the sailing from Jeddah, arrival at Genoa, crossing of the Swiss border and release.
Do you ship from Switzerland to Jeddah?
Yes. Our partner collects from your address in Geneva, Lausanne, Lugano or elsewhere, and the container goes down by rail or truck to Genoa and then sails to Jeddah Islamic Port, or is flown to King Abdulaziz Airport. We clear it in Jeddah and deliver it to your home.
