Who ships from Jeddah to Austria, and what do they send?
Most of what leaves Jeddah for Austria is not traders’ cargo but the belongings of families and individuals. People in Jeddah know Zell am See, Salzburg and Innsbruck as summer resorts, so they send their summer bags ahead of the trip. A student accepted at an Austrian university sends cartons. An employee seconded to an organisation based in Vienna moves a household. A European resident whose contract in Jeddah has ended takes furniture home. Each of them has a different shipping method and a different customs treatment.
| The shipper | What they send | The method that suits | The first thing we ask |
|---|---|---|---|
| A family holidaying in Austria | Extra suitcases, a pushchair, supplies for a stay of a month or two | Door-to-door air | The arrival date and the address of the flat or hotel |
| A student or scholarship holder | Cartons of winter clothes, books and kitchenware | A shared container, and one suitcase by air | The start of term and the address of the accommodation |
| An employee moving residence | Household furniture, appliances and a car | A 20ft or 40ft container | The date their Austrian address is registered |
| A resident leaving Jeddah for good | Furniture and possessions from years of living here | A full or shared container, by volume | How long they lived in the Kingdom, and the proof |
| A trader or exporter | Dates, perfumes, textiles and factory products | A full container or pallets as a part load | The importer’s European customs number |
| A car owner | A private car for residence or for temporary use | Inside a closed container or on a RoRo vessel | Is it entering permanently or temporarily? |
The answer to the last question in each row changes the whole plan. The date decides whether a ship will do or air is needed, and the consignee’s status in Austria decides whether the shipment enters free or taxed.
The shipping route from Jeddah to Austria and how long it takes
The sea journey from Jeddah to Austria is short at its start and long at its end. It begins with a move inside the city of no more than a few hours, because the port is in Jeddah itself. The vessel then heads north up the Red Sea, passes through the Suez Canal and enters the Adriatic as far as its northern tip. There the sea’s share ends and the European overland share begins: a truck climbing from the coast into the Alps and entering Austria from the south.
| Stage | What happens | Usual time |
|---|---|---|
| Survey and packing in Jeddah | Dismantling, packing, numbering and writing the list | One day for most homes |
| From the district to Jeddah Islamic Port | The container is loaded at the door or at our warehouse, then enters the port | Hours |
| Export and waiting for the vessel | The Saudi export declaration, then lifting on board | 2–4 days |
| Sailing to the Adriatic | Direct when a service calling at Jeddah is available, or with a change of vessel at a Mediterranean hub | 12–20 days |
| Koper or Trieste | Discharging the container, the customs transit formality and loading onto the truck | 2–4 days |
| Crossing the Alps | A truck to the Austrian city, or a container train when that suits better | 1–3 days |
| Clearance and delivery | The Austrian import declaration, then unloading at the door | 2–4 days with complete papers |
The method changes the count. The times below run from the moment we take the shipment over in Jeddah to the consignee’s signature in Austria:
| Method | Approximate time | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Full container | 25–40 days | A whole home, furniture with a car, or a trader’s order |
| Shared container | 30–45 days | Cartons and a room or two |
| Car on a RoRo vessel | 28–42 days | A running car that is driven on board |
| Air freight | 3–7 days | Luggage, urgent parcels, documents and samples |
What lengthens the time?
- Changing vessel: not every service reaches the Adriatic directly, and each transhipment adds days.
- Hajj and Ramadan: Jeddah’s traffic grows heavy, and the slots for trucks entering the port tighten.
- Truck driving bans: Austria restricts heavy trucks at weekends and on public holidays.
- Snow on the passes: winter slows the mountain roads towards Tyrol and Salzburg.
To compare with other destinations, see the transit times page.
From Jeddah to the port of Koper or Trieste, then Austria

Koper and Trieste are neighbouring harbours at the head of the Adriatic Sea, the first Slovenian and the second Italian, and they are the sea quays closest to Austrian territory. Koper in particular has been the leading port for Austria’s seaborne trade for years, handling about a third of what the country imports and exports by sea. That is why we route Jeddah containers to these two before any other, and choose between them by the vessel with the nearest date on the day of booking.
After the quay the truck climbs north. From Koper it crosses Slovenia and enters the state of Carinthia through the Karawanks tunnel. From Trieste it takes the motorway through Udine and Tarvisio to Villach. At Villach the road divides: north through the Tauern tunnel to Salzburg, and east to Klagenfurt, then Graz and Vienna. Innsbruck is reached by this road or from the Italian side over the Brenner Pass, depending on road conditions that day.
| Austrian city | Approximate distance from the port | The truck’s usual road |
|---|---|---|
| Villach | About 170 km from Trieste | Udine, then Tarvisio |
| Klagenfurt | About 200 km from Koper | Ljubljana, then the Karawanks tunnel |
| Graz | About 270 km from Koper | Ljubljana, then Maribor |
| Salzburg | About 370 km from Trieste | Villach, then the Tauern tunnel |
| Innsbruck | More than 450 km | The Brenner Pass or the Tauern road |
| Vienna | About 480 km from Koper | Graz, then the southern motorway |
The container crosses the border between Slovenia or Italy and Austria sealed under the European customs transit procedure, so it is not opened at the port. Clearance takes place at the Austrian customs office nearest the consignee. When the destination is Graz, Villach or Linz and the date allows, we offer you the container train from Koper as an alternative to the truck. More on the ports and gateways page.
Shipping prices from Jeddah to Austria
The bill for shipping from Jeddah to Austria has three clear parts. The first is the sea or air freight, which is what the figures in the table start from. The second is the truck from Koper or Trieste to your Austrian city, charged by distance. The third is the services you ask for: packing and dismantling in Jeddah, unloading and assembly over there. The move inside Jeddah to the port is the smallest item because the distance is short.
| Shipment | Method | Price starts from |
|---|---|---|
| Saloon car | RoRo vessel as far as the European port | SAR 2,800 |
| Furniture and belongings | Shared container | SAR 5,500 |
| A whole home’s furniture | Full container | SAR 11,000 |
| Parcels, suitcases and samples | Air from King Abdulaziz Airport to Vienna | SAR 23 a kilogram |
| Documents | Express | SAR 83 |
| Car inside a container | A dedicated container or together with furniture | Set on request by the type of car and container |
| Transport from the port to the Austrian city | Truck or container train | Set on request by city |
| Commercial goods on pallets | Part load by the cubic metre | Set on request after the packing list |
The prices quoted in the market for the Jeddah–Austria lane are far apart. Parcels up to 5 kg are offered at about SAR 300 to 400, and parcels of 5 to 20 kg at SAR 600 to 750. A small furniture shipment is offered from SAR 2,500, a room of furniture at SAR 4,000 to 8,000, and a whole home from SAR 10,000 upwards. Large commercial cargo from SAR 5,000, and a car from SAR 8,000 when the offer includes the European transport. A kilogram by air runs between SAR 22 and 35, and a full container between SAR 12,000 and 18,000. The spread exists because some offers stop at the port and others go to the door. Container rates are explained in the article on container shipping prices from Jeddah.
| Factor | How it affects the Jeddah–Austria lane |
|---|---|
| Volume and weight | Sea is charged by the cubic metre, air by the greater of actual and volumetric weight. Measure your shipment with the CBM calculator |
| Type of container | Shared for anything under 12 cubic metres, full for anything above |
| The Austrian city | Klagenfurt and Villach are nearest the port; Innsbruck and Bregenz are the farthest |
| Services at both ends | Dismantling and packing in Jeddah; the floor, the lift and a window hoist in Austria |
How do you bring the cost down?
- Gather what you are shipping into one consignment; one container is cheaper than two small shipments.
- Send the summer suitcases early by economy air instead of paying for excess baggage at the airport.
- Ask for a 20ft container price once your shipment passes 12 cubic metres and compare it with the shared rate.
- Hand the relief papers to our agent before the container arrives so that no storage is charged on it.
The price items are explained on the pricing factors page.
What sets shipping from Jeddah apart?
Jeddah is the only Saudi city that has the main Red Sea port and a major international airport within its own limits. For the owner of a shipment this means the overland stage inside the Kingdom almost drops out of the sums: the container is loaded in the district in the morning and spends the night in the port yard. And a vessel leaving Jeddah heads straight for Suez, without sailing round the Arabian Peninsula as ships from the Gulf ports do.
- The port: Jeddah Islamic Port lies in the south-centre of the city, with the Al-Khumrah logistics area close by, where we consolidate shared shipments.
- The airport: the cargo village at King Abdulaziz Airport is in the north of the city, and air parcels and luggage leave from it.
- Truck hours: large trucks are restricted to set hours on Jeddah’s main roads, so we time loading around them and confirm the hours in force before the day.
- Humidity: Jeddah’s air is humid for most of the year, so we put desiccants inside the cartons and the container before sealing, to stop water condensing when it meets the Alpine cold.
- The old Al-Balad quarters: a truck cannot enter their lanes, so we move goods out by small vehicle to the loading point.
The city’s shipping offices and their services are covered in the article on international shipping companies in Jeddah.
Shipping furniture and household goods from Jeddah to Austria
Furniture is what goes by sea most often on this lane, starting from SAR 5,500 in a shared container and SAR 11,000 in a full one. The work rests on one fact: a piece packed in Jeddah’s heat and humidity will be opened a month later in an Austrian flat that may be on the fourth floor with no roomy lift. So we pack, dismantle and number with that staircase in mind.
- Dismantling what needs it: bedrooms, wardrobes and dining tables come apart, and each piece’s screws go in a bag carrying its number.
- Packing for a month’s journey: blankets and corrugated board for wood, wooden crates for glass and marble, and a barrier wrap against sea damp.
- A list for customs: every carton with a number and a description in English; this is the paper the Austrian relief is built on.
- Stowing and lashing: heavy items at the bottom, and straps holding the load to the container walls so it does not shift on the Alpine gradients.
- Unloading and assembly: a crew in Austria carries the pieces into their rooms, reassembles what was taken apart and removes the empty cartons.
Three things are worth knowing before choosing what to ship. Austria’s electricity is 230 volts at 50 hertz with a European socket of two round pins, so appliances from the Kingdom need a plug adaptor, and some with motors are affected by the difference in frequency. And a desert cooler or a large Arabic majlis set rarely finds a place in an Austrian flat. The service is detailed on the furniture shipping page, and packing methods in the packing guide.
Full container or shared container from Jeddah port?
The choice between the two systems is a question of volume first and time second. A full container is booked for you alone and closed with a seal whose number is written on the bill of lading, so it is not opened between Jeddah and your home in Austria. A shared one groups your shipment with other people’s at our warehouse in Al-Khumrah; you pay for your cubic metres only, and it is then sorted at a European warehouse and distributed by truck.
| Point of comparison | Full container | Shared container |
|---|---|---|
| Price starts from | SAR 11,000 | SAR 5,500 |
| Basis of charge | The whole container | The cubic metres you occupy |
| Time to the door | 25–40 days | 30–45 days |
| Handling on the way | Sealed until delivery | Unloaded and sorted once in Europe |
| Suits | A whole home, furniture with a car, and a trader’s goods | A student’s cartons, a bedroom, and a small order |
A 20ft container carries close to 28 cubic metres, which is the furniture of a flat with two or three bedrooms. A 40ft container carries close to 58 cubic metres. Anyone whose shipment is between 12 and 15 cubic metres should ask for both prices, because the gap narrows at that point and a dedicated container is safer for furniture. Sizes are on the container sizes page, and the service is detailed in the article on international sea freight from Jeddah.
Shipping parcels and luggage from Jeddah to Austria
A parcel usually travels by air and is delivered to the door, at a rate starting from SAR 23 a kilogram. Most Jeddah parcels to Austria fall into three kinds: family suitcases sent ahead to the resorts of Salzburg and Tyrol, gifts and dates sent by relatives to a student or family member, and individuals’ purchases. Austrian customs treats every parcel arriving from outside the European Union as an import, however small.
- Express or economy: express arrives in 3 to 5 days, and economy needs up to 7 days at a lower price.
- Holidaymakers’ suitcases: we write the guest’s name and arrival date on them, and arrange with the hotel or the flat’s owner to receive them.
- Gifts: an occasional gift from one private person to another is exempt if its value does not exceed EUR 45; import VAT is collected on anything above, and customs duty is added over EUR 150. These are the thresholds currently applied, and we confirm what is in force before sending.
- The declaration: every item by name, quantity and value; the phrase “personal effects” gets a parcel stopped for questions.
- Dates, coffee and spices: in sealed packs and personal quantities, with no meat, milk or ghee alongside.
The service is on the parcel shipping page.
Shipping commercial goods and appliances from Jeddah to Austria
Goods leaving Jeddah’s factories and warehouses for an Austrian buyer are checked on entering the European Union against its standards, not the Kingdom’s. The importer there is asked first for a European customs number, known as an EORI number; duty is then calculated from the product’s tariff heading, with 20% import VAT on top. So we review the documents and labels in Jeddah before the container is closed.
| Product | How it ships | What Europe requires |
|---|---|---|
| Dates and date products | A dry or refrigerated container, by product and season | A label in German and a best-before date, and a phytosanitary certificate on request |
| Perfumes, incense and oud oil | By sea, or by air under dangerous-goods classification | Cosmetics registered with a responsible person inside the Union |
| Electrical and electronic appliances | Cartons lined with shock-absorbing foam and anti-static bags | The European CE conformity mark and a declaration of conformity |
| Abayas, textiles and carpets | Compressed cartons as a part load | A fibre-composition label and the country of origin |
Appliances deserve extra care because they are what gets damaged most on the way. We ship the appliance in its original box where there is one, fill the gaps, add a desiccant, and record the serial number and the condition in photos before closing. Pallets and wooden crates carry the international heat-treatment stamp, or they are refused at the European port. The service is on the commercial shipping page.
Car shipping from Jeddah to Austria

A car travels from Jeddah port in one of two ways. The first is inside a closed container: the car goes in over a ramp, is lashed by all four wheels with straps to the container floor, the wheels are chocked with timber, and the container is sealed. This method lands at Koper or Trieste near Austria, protects the car from salt and dust, and allows furniture to travel with it. The second is a RoRo vessel onto whose deck the car is driven, starting from SAR 2,800 for a saloon as far as the European port.
We review the Austrian import conditions with you before booking, because the sea freight is the smallest figure in the sums. These are the items as published by the Austrian Ministry of Finance, and we confirm what is in force before shipping:
| Item | What it means for the car’s owner |
|---|---|
| Customs duty | 10% of the value of a car arriving from outside the European Union |
| Import VAT | 20%, calculated on the value up to the car’s arrival at destination |
| Standard consumption tax | Paid before first licensing and calculated from fuel consumption and value, so it rises with large engines |
| Relief for people moving residence | Removes duty and import VAT from a private car they have used for six months; the consumption tax remains |
| Individual approval | A Gulf-specification car has no European certificate of conformity, so it is inspected at the state’s technical testing centre and modifications may be required |
| Temporary admission | For a visitor not resident in the Union, on home-country plates, with insurance valid in Europe and for a limited period |
| On Austrian roads | The motorway vignette, winter tyres in wintry conditions, and a periodic inspection with its sticker after registration |
From the port the car is carried on a car transporter to your city, so it does not run on the road before it is cleared. Our advice: send us the make, year of manufacture and engine size before you decide, because some large cars cost several times their freight to register in Austria, and selling them in Jeddah is wiser. The two methods are on the container car shipping and RoRo car shipping pages, and the general rules in the article on car shipping from Saudi Arabia.
Austrian customs and relief for people moving their residence
Austria is a member of the European Union, so its customs tariff is the Union’s, and it adds 20% import VAT. The most important exception for furniture owners is the “removal goods” relief: anyone moving their normal place of residence from the Kingdom to Austria brings in used belongings free of duty and tax. The conditions below are the published ones, and they are reviewed from time to time:
| Condition | What is required |
|---|---|
| Length of residence outside the Union | At least twelve continuous months, with proof |
| Ownership and use of the belongings | At least six months at the previous place of residence |
| Date of entry | Within twelve months of settling in Austria |
| After release | No sale, hire or lending for twelve months |
| Outside the relief | Alcoholic drinks, tobacco, commercial vehicles and non-portable tools of trade |
| New items | Listed separately with their invoices attached, and taxed |
The key to the relief is the residence registration form the Austrian municipality issues once its holder has actually moved in. So we arrange the timing so that the owner of the shipment travels from Jeddah first and registers the address while the container is still at sea. A student arriving to study has a separate relief for study requisites and the used furniture of a room, and we match the case against it before shipping.
Documents required for shipping from Jeddah to Austria
The papers are prepared in Jeddah and used in Austria. We ask for copies before loading day and review them, then our agent files them electronically with Austrian customs when the shipment arrives. A mistake found in Jeddah is put right in minutes; one found at the European port is put right in days and storage charges.
| Shipment | What it needs | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Furniture of someone moving residence | Passport, residence registration, the relief application form, proof of a year’s residence in the Kingdom, the list of contents, the bill of lading and a power of attorney for the broker | The list in English or German, in three copies |
| A student’s belongings | Passport, the letter of admission or enrolment, the accommodation address and the list of contents | Used belongings only |
| Parcels and gifts | A customs declaration of items and values, and the consignee’s name and telephone | The true value cuts the questions short |
| Commercial goods | Commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, bill of lading and the importer’s EORI number | Plus the conformity or health certificate, by product |
| Car | Registration card, proof of value, export certificate and bill of lading | With the relief application if its owner is moving |
Each paper is explained on the shipping documents page, and the release steps on the customs clearance page.
What cannot be shipped from Jeddah to Austria, or needs a permit
What is barred on this lane is of two kinds: what Saudi export rules forbid, and what Europe forbids or restricts on entry. What surprises senders from Jeddah most is that ordinary food from the home, such as ghee, dried milk and cured meat, does not enter the European Union in a personal parcel. We ask you about every doubtful item before the carton is closed.
| Item | Status |
|---|---|
| Meat, dairy and their derivatives | Not admitted in personal shipments |
| Medicines | Sending them to private individuals is tightly restricted in Austria, and the competent authority is asked first |
| Zamzam water | Not shipped as cargo |
| Narcotics and psychotropic substances | Strictly prohibited |
| Weapons, ammunition, swords and daggers | By special licence or prohibited, even when ornamental |
| Counterfeit watches, bags and perfumes | Confiscated, and the consignee may be fined |
| Ivory, coral and skins of protected species | With permits under the international convention, or prohibited |
| Lithium batteries, perfumes and aerosols | Restricted by air, and moved to sea when necessary |
The full list is on the prohibited items page.
Delivering shipments from Jeddah in Salzburg, Innsbruck, Klagenfurt and the other cities

We deliver in all nine Austrian states, and delivery includes unloading and assembly when you ask for it. Jeddah shipments divide between two main destinations: Vienna for people relocating, students and missions, and the west and south of the country for holidaymakers and owners of seasonal homes. Salzburg, Innsbruck, Klagenfurt and their surroundings are nearer the arrival port than the capital is, so the truck reaches them first.
| City | State | How the shipment gets there | What we deliver there most from Jeddah |
|---|---|---|---|
| Salzburg | Salzburg | Truck from the port through the Tauern tunnel | Holidaymakers’ suitcases and furniture for holiday flats |
| Zell am See, Kaprun and Bad Gastein | Salzburg | Distribution from Salzburg by a smaller vehicle | Family luggage and pushchairs |
| Innsbruck | Tyrol | Truck over the Brenner Pass or from Salzburg | Students’ cartons and air parcels |
| Klagenfurt and Villach | Carinthia | The first places the truck reaches after the border | Furniture and goods, and lakeside homes |
| Graz | Styria | Truck or container train from Koper | Students’ belongings and industrial goods |
| Vienna | Vienna | Truck from the south; air freight lands at its airport | Furniture of people relocating, and embassy and organisation shipments |
| Linz and St. Pölten | Upper and Lower Austria | Container train to the Enns terminal, or truck | Goods and equipment, and employees’ furniture |
| Bregenz and Dornbirn | Vorarlberg | The farthest destinations, by distribution truck or by air | Parcels and part loads |
Unloading in Austrian cities has its own rules. A container truck does not enter the old lanes of Salzburg and Innsbruck, so the load is transferred to a smaller vehicle at the edge of the city. The mountain villages around Klagenfurt and Zell am See have narrow roads, some of which close with snow. In old buildings a large piece is hoisted through the window when the staircase will not take it. We agree the day and hour with the consignee, and the crew stays until the pieces are assembled and checked against the list.
Our services for individuals, companies, government bodies, embassies and consulates
Jeddah is a city of consulates, companies and regional head offices, so the customers on this lane are not families alone. We deal with each group in the way its shipment calls for: an individual needs an explanation and a price they can follow, a company needs a fixed date and matching documents, and an official body needs a documented procedure that raises no questions afterwards.
| Customer | What we provide | What we take into account |
|---|---|---|
| Individuals and families | Furniture, belongings, parcels and a car from the home in Jeddah to the home in Austria | The relief the consignee is entitled to and their travel date |
| Students | Cartons and suitcases at the shared-container rate or by the kilogram by air | Arrival before the start of term, and the room number in the residence |
| Companies and factories | Regular exports, office furniture and exhibition items | The delivery terms in the sales contract, and conformity with European standards |
| Government bodies | Printed matter, delegation equipment and exhibition stands | The letter of assignment, the official date and a report after delivery |
| Embassies and consulates | Belongings of diplomats on transfer and furniture for premises | Diplomatic exemption is requested through its official channels, and we prepare the list and bill of lading for it |
Vienna is the seat of international organisations that employ staff from the Kingdom, and their belongings are governed by headquarters agreements, not by the rules for an ordinary person moving. So we prepare the shipment and its papers, and the employer submits the exemption request.
Is there land freight from Jeddah to Austria? And how do we ship to the Gulf and other countries?
We do not rely on an overland route to Austria. The distance crosses many countries and borders whose conditions cannot be guaranteed, and a Saudi truck does not continue into the European Union. Sea and air are therefore the two routes, and a truck appears only at the end of the journey inside Europe. The Gulf states, by contrast, we ship to from Jeddah by closed trucks, and sea from the west coast to them is impractical. Details are in the article on shipping from Saudi Arabia to the Gulf states. The other European countries are served by sea and air too, as explained in the article on shipping from Saudi Arabia to Europe.
Air freight from Jeddah to Austria

Air freight is for luggage and urgent parcels; it leaves King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah and is delivered to the address within 3 to 7 days. A kilogram starts from SAR 23, and documents from SAR 83. The shipment lands at Vienna International Airport, Austria’s main cargo airport, on a direct flight when the current schedule offers one or through a transit point. From Vienna it is distributed by truck to the other states.
| Final destination | The air shipment’s route | Approximate time to the door |
|---|---|---|
| Vienna and its surroundings | Jeddah airport → Vienna airport → local distribution | 3–5 days |
| Salzburg and Innsbruck | Vienna airport then truck, or a nearby airport in Germany when that suits better | 4–7 days |
| Klagenfurt and Bregenz | Vienna airport, then a distribution truck | 5–7 days |
- The weight you are charged for: the greater of the scale weight and the volumetric weight. A suitcase puffed up with coats is light on the scale and heavy in the sums. Try it in the volumetric weight calculator.
- What we send by air from Jeddah: holidaymakers’ suitcases, a student’s belongings for the first week, attested contracts and certificates, and traders’ samples.
- Restricted: perfumes, oud oil, aerosols and loose lithium batteries, which have limits and special packing.
- Release: an electronic import declaration at the Austrian airport, with the tax paid by the consignee before delivery if it is due.
The service is on the air freight page, and our office in the article on the air freight office in Jeddah.
Collection from Jeddah’s districts and nearby towns
We collect from a home, office or warehouse in any district of Jeddah, and from the cities and towns that belong to it in practice. The crew arrives with cartons and packing materials and finishes dismantling, packing and loading in a single visit for most homes. For anyone living outside Jeddah, the shipment is moved by closed truck to our warehouse and then to the port or the airport.
| Area | Districts or towns | Note |
|---|---|---|
| North Jeddah | North and South Obhur, Al-Shati, Al-Mohammadiyah, Al-Basateen, Al-Naeem, Al-Hamdaniyah | Close to the airport, and the source of most air shipments |
| Central Jeddah | Al-Rawdah, Al-Salamah, Al-Zahra, Al-Khalidiyah, Al-Hamra, Al-Andalus, Al-Aziziyah, Mishrifah | Residential blocks, where we book the lift with the building management |
| East Jeddah | Al-Safa, Al-Marwah, Al-Rehab, Al-Samer, Al-Ajwad, Al-Manar | Evening loading to avoid daytime congestion |
| South Jeddah and Al-Balad | Al-Balad, Al-Jamiah, Al-Sanabel, Al-Khumrah | Nearest the port; Al-Balad is served by a small vehicle |
| North of the governorate | Dhahban, Thuwal, King Abdullah Economic City, Rabigh | Rabigh is about 150 km away, by prior appointment |
| East of the governorate and beyond | Bahrah, Makkah, Taif | Makkah is about 80 km away and Taif about 170 km |

Steps for shipping from Jeddah to Austria
- Contact and description: you send to 0552803439 photos of what you want to ship, your district in Jeddah, the Austrian city and your status there.
- The plan: we choose between sea and air, and settle on Koper or Trieste by the nearest vessel.
- The price: it reaches you split into freight, European transport and services.
- Booking: we fix the collection day and the container’s place on the vessel, and you hand us copies of the papers.
- Collection: the crew dismantles, packs and numbers at your home, and you sign the list of contents.
- Export: we take the container into Jeddah port, or the parcel into the airport’s cargo village, and issue the bill of lading.
- Follow-up: an update on sailing, on arrival in the Adriatic and on entering Austria.
- Clearance and delivery: our agent files the declaration and the relief application, then everything is delivered to the door and assembled.
Tracking and insuring the shipment
A container leaving Jeddah changes carrier at least three times: vessel, then quay, then a European truck. News usually goes quiet at the changeover, so we take it on ourselves to tell you at those moments. You get a message when the vessel leaves Jeddah, when it berths at Koper or Trieste, when the truck crosses the Austrian border, and when the release is issued.
- By sea: the container number is enough to see the vessel’s position on the shipping line’s website. How to follow it is on the track your shipment page.
- By air: the air waybill number shows departure from Jeddah, landing and release.
- Insurance: it is not compulsory, but it earns its premium on a journey with sea, mountains and two handlings. It is calculated as a percentage of the value you declare. The terms are on the cargo insurance page.
- To protect your claim: photograph valuable pieces before packing, and write any remark on the delivery note before you sign.
Shipping from Austria to Jeddah
We work in the opposite direction over the same route reversed. It is asked for by the student returning after graduation, the family that bought furniture or ski equipment on holiday, and the trader importing from Austrian factories. Our agent collects from the Austrian address, the shipment goes down to the Adriatic port or flies from Vienna, and we then clear it at Jeddah Islamic Port or King Abdulaziz Airport and deliver it to your district.
Home Safe’s advice before shipping to Austria
- Start from your address in Austria: the city, the floor and the width of the staircase; then decide what to ship.
- Book the container a month or two before you travel, and do not wait for the week of departure.
- Send winter coats by air if you arrive between October and March, because the container will lag behind the cold.
- Do not mix new and used items in one carton, and keep the invoices for new ones separate.
- Do not put original papers or small valuables in the container; carry them with you.
How do you choose a shipping company from Jeddah to Austria?
Jeddah has many shipping offices around the port and the airport, and the prices you hear from them cannot be compared until you know what each price covers. Put these questions to whoever makes you an offer, and look at the shape of the answer:
| The question | The answer of someone who knows the lane | An answer that calls for caution |
|---|---|---|
| Where does the price end? | They specify: the quay at Koper or the front door in Salzburg | “To Austria”, and nothing more |
| Which port does the container enter through? | They name the port, the vessel and its date | They do not know Austria has no coast |
| What about customs? | They ask about your status and your residence registration | “Everything used is exempt” |
| How long? | A time to the door with a margin for the truck and clearance | The sailing days only |
| And my car? | They work out the taxes and approval with you before booking | They mention the sea freight alone |
Common mistakes when shipping from Jeddah to Austria
- Sending the container months before travelling, so it arrives while its owner still has no registered address.
- Choosing the cheapest offer and then discovering that it ends on the quay of the European port.
- Shipping a large-engined car without asking about the consumption tax and the approval inspection.
- Putting ghee, dried meat or medicine among the kitchen cartons.
- Closing cartons in Jeddah’s humid air with no desiccant, then opening them to mould.
- Writing a name on the parcel that differs from the name on the doorbell.
- Setting the delivery day on an Austrian public holiday when trucks do not run.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Jeddah to Austria
How much does shipping from Jeddah to Austria cost?
Each kind of shipment has its own starting figure. A RoRo vessel carries a saloon car to the European harbour from SAR 2,800. Anyone with a room or two ships them in a shared container from SAR 5,500, and anyone moving a whole home books a container of their own from SAR 11,000. A kilogram of air freight to Vienna starts from SAR 23, and an envelope of documents from SAR 83. The truck from the European port to your city is added. For an exact price: 0552803439.
How many days does a shipment from Jeddah need to reach Austria?
A dedicated container reaches the consignee’s door in 25 to 40 days, most of them spent at sea and then waiting for the truck and clearance. A shipment travelling with others in a shared container needs 30 to 45 days. Whatever leaves King Abdulaziz Airport is delivered in Vienna within 3 to 7 days, with a day or two more for the western cities.
Why does the shipment pass through the port of Koper or Trieste?
Because Austria has no sea, and these two harbours at the head of the Adriatic are as close as it gets to its southern border. From their quays Klagenfurt and Villach are a few hours away by truck, and Salzburg and Graz less than a working day.
What is the best way to ship parcels from Jeddah to Austria?
The parcel’s weight and the date you need it decide. A light, urgent parcel flies from Jeddah airport and arrives in days. Many cartons that can afford to wait go by sea in a shared container, which brings the cost per kilogram down sharply.
What is the cheapest way to ship from Jeddah to Austria?
A shared container by sea is the lowest cost for anyone whose shipment is under half a container, and it starts from SAR 5,500. For an envelope or a small parcel, economy air costs less than booking sea space.
How much does it cost to ship furniture from Jeddah to Austria?
A few pieces, such as a bedroom or a small sitting room, are charged by the cubic metre inside a shared container from SAR 5,500. The furniture of a flat or a house takes a 20ft or 40ft container from SAR 11,000. Dismantling and packing in Jeddah and assembly in Austria are added if you ask for them.
How do I find out the price of shipping goods and appliances to Austria?
Send us four details on 0552803439: the kind of goods, the number of packages or pallets, their weight and dimensions, and the Austrian city of delivery. We reply the same day with a price split into items: the sea or air freight, the European trucking, and what belongs to clearance.
Can I ship my car from Jeddah to Austria?
Yes. We load it inside a closed container and lash it by all four wheels, or send it on a RoRo vessel from SAR 2,800 for a saloon. Before that, though, ask about three Austrian matters: 10% customs duty and 20% import VAT for anyone not exempt, a consumption tax at first registration, and an individual approval inspection for a Gulf-specification car. We go through them with you before booking.
Can I bring my car into Austria temporarily for the summer holiday?
European rules allow someone who does not live in the Union to bring in a private car registered in their own country temporarily and free of duty for a limited period, provided they use it themselves and take it out before the period ends. It needs insurance valid in Europe and valid plates and registration. The period and conditions change, so we confirm what applies before you ship.
Is customs duty charged on my used furniture in Austria?
Not for someone moving their place of residence there who can show that they lived outside the European Union for at least a full year, that the belongings were in their possession and use for six months, and that they bring them in within twelve months of settling. Anyone who does not meet that pays duty by product and 20% import VAT. We match your case against the conditions in force before loading.
Which Austrian cities do you deliver Jeddah shipments to?
All nine federal states. Vienna, Graz, Linz, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Klagenfurt, Villach, St. Pölten and Bregenz, along with holiday towns such as Zell am See, Kaprun and Bad Gastein. Delivery is to the door, with unloading and assembly when you ask for them.
Is there land freight from Jeddah to Austria?
We do not rely on it. The overland route crosses many countries and borders whose conditions change, so neither a date nor a cost can be guaranteed. Sea to the Adriatic followed by a European truck is shorter in practice and clearer to cost, and air is faster than both for anything light.
Which documents are needed to ship my personal belongings?
On your side in Jeddah: a copy of the passport or residence permit, and a list of contents. On the consignee’s side in Austria: their passport, the residence registration form, proof of their previous residence in the Kingdom, and the relief application if they are moving their residence. We issue the bill of lading and write the list in English in the form customs accepts.
Do you collect the shipment from my home in Jeddah?
Yes, from any district: Obhur, Al-Shati, Al-Rawdah, Al-Salamah, Al-Safa, Al-Hamdaniyah, Al-Balad, Al-Khumrah and the rest. We also collect from Dhahban, Thuwal, Bahrah, Rabigh, Makkah and Taif.
Do you ship from Austria to Jeddah?
Yes. Our agent collects the shipment from the Austrian address, it goes down by truck to Koper or Trieste, and then sails to Jeddah Islamic Port. Anything urgent flies from Vienna to King Abdulaziz Airport.
