Who ships from Mecca to Belgium, and what do they ship?
Most of those who ship from Makkah to Belgium do not live there. They are visitors who came from Brussels, Antwerp or Charleroi for Umrah or Hajj and bought for their families more than an aircraft suitcase can carry. After them comes the resident who has finished working in Makkah and is joining family there, the student accepted at a Belgian university, and the trader who supplies shops selling Islamic goods. Each has a different volume, a different method and a different customs status:
| Shipper | What they ship | Best method | Status at Belgian customs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Umrah or Hajj pilgrim coming from Belgium | Dates, prayer rugs, abayas and gifts | A carton or suitcase by air, larger amounts by sea as a part load | Personal effects, new items at their value |
| Resident leaving for good | Household furniture, appliances and books | A 20-foot container or a part load | Transfer-of-residence relief if the conditions are met |
| Student accepted at a Belgian university | Winter clothes, books and room items | A shared box by sea and a suitcase by air | Student relief with proof of enrolment |
| Trader in Makkah | Prayer rugs, prayer beads, abayas, incense and dates | Part load or container, samples by air | Duty by item and 21% tax |
The shipping route from Mecca to Belgium and its transit time
The journey from Makkah to a home in Belgium has six stops, and the sea is one of them. It starts with a small vehicle in your district and ends with a distribution vehicle in a Belgian street, with two ports and two customs authorities in between. Anyone who tells you “two weeks” is counting the vessel’s days alone. We count from the loading day in Makkah to the unloading day at the consignee, and this is the breakdown for a full container:
| Stage | What happens | Usual time |
|---|---|---|
| Collection in Makkah | Packing, numbering and inventory, with a small vehicle if the street is narrow | One day |
| Makkah to Jeddah port | A closed truck on the motorway, about 80 km | The same day or the next |
| Stuffing and export | Loading and sealing the container, the export declaration, and waiting for the sailing date | 3–7 days |
| Sailing | Suez, the Mediterranean, Gibraltar, then the North Sea | 14–20 days |
| Clearance in Antwerp | Import declaration and the relief file or payment of tax | 2–5 working days |
| Delivery inside Belgium | From the port to the address, with unloading | One day |
A full container is not the only option. Someone with ten cartons shares a container with others and so waits some days longer, a car has dedicated vessels that berth at another port, and an urgent suitcase cuts the whole road short by aircraft. These are the times from Makkah for each method:
| Method | Route | Time from Makkah | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full container | Makkah → Jeddah port → Antwerp | 25–35 days | Household furniture and bulk goods |
| Sea part load | A shared container sorted in a warehouse near Antwerp | 30–38 days | Family cartons and larger amounts of pilgrims’ baggage |
| RoRo for cars | A carrier to Jeddah, then a car vessel to Zeebrugge | 24–32 days | A running car |
| Air | Jeddah airport → Brussels or Liège | 3–6 days | Suitcases, parcels and documents |
What lengthens the transit time?
- The Hajj season and the end of Ramadan: truck movement in Makkah and on the Jeddah road is restricted, so the shipment is late leaving the city itself.
- The vessel’s route: some shipping lines at times sail round the Cape of Good Hope instead of Suez, adding a week or more to the sailing. We ask about the voyage route on the booking day.
- An incomplete file: an unsigned list, or registration at the Belgian commune not yet done.
- Summer holidays: work in Belgium is slower in July and August.
Times for the other destinations are on the transit times page.
From Mecca via Jeddah port to Antwerp

Makkah is an inland mountain city, and its nearest sea is at Jeddah. That is why every Makkah container leaves from Jeddah Islamic Port, which works in favour of anyone shipping to Europe: the port is on the Red Sea, and the vessel starts its voyage from there towards the Suez Canal without passing a strait or rounding the peninsula. The sea distance from Jeddah to Antwerp is about 4,100 nautical miles, which a direct vessel covers in roughly two weeks, with some days more if the service tranships at an intermediate port.
Antwerp is a river port, not a coastal one. The vessel enters it from the North Sea, sailing tens of kilometres up the River Scheldt before berthing near the city. From there to Brussels is only about 45 km. Zeebrugge, by contrast, sits right on the coast and is where car vessels berth. The two ports are run by a single port authority, and we split shipments between them like this:
| Comparison | Port of Antwerp | Port of Zeebrugge |
|---|---|---|
| Which of our shipments it receives | Containers of furniture, baggage and goods | Cars on RoRo vessels |
| Container used | 20 or 40 feet, full or shared | No container; the car is driven into the hold |
| Distance from Brussels | About 45 km | About 110 km |
| Frequency of sailings from Jeddah | Usually every one to two weeks | Fewer, by the car-vessel schedule |
We book the container’s space on the vessel before the truck moves from Makkah. A container that reaches the port without a booking stands in the yard and storage is charged on it. How the port works is in the article international sea freight from Jeddah, and the service is explained on the sea freight page.
The price of shipping from Mecca to Belgium
The price follows the unit of charge, and the unit of charge follows what you ship. A suitcase and a parcel go by the kilogram, cartons and furniture by the cubic metre, a whole house by the container, and a car by its class. A Makkah invoice has one item that someone shipping from Jeddah does not pay: transport from your district to the port or airport, which changes with the volume, the location of the house and whether a small vehicle is needed before the truck. These are the figures our services to Belgium start from:
| What you ship | Method | Price starts from |
|---|---|---|
| Suitcases, cartons and samples | Air via Jeddah airport | SAR 23 per kilogram |
| Documents up to one kilogram | Express | SAR 83 |
| Parcel up to 5 kg | Express | SAR 110 |
| Furniture and baggage | Sea part load | SAR 5,500 |
| Full household furniture | Full container | SAR 11,000 |
| Saloon car | Sea from Jeddah port | SAR 2,800 |
| Baggage of a pilgrim group | Consolidated shipment | Set by the number of pieces and their weight |
| Transport from Makkah to the port or airport | By volume and loading location | Set on request |
An air example: an Umrah pilgrim in a hotel in Aziziyah has two cartons with a chargeable weight of 20 kg, so their freight is 20 × 23, that is from SAR 460. Had there been twelve cartons for a whole family, a sea part load would have been cheaper for him, with a longer wait.
Prices circulating in the market for this route are few and far apart. We found no one publishing a detailed tariff from Makkah to Belgium specifically, and what circulates is general figures: an air parcel of no more than 5 kg at about SAR 450, a 20-foot container at about SAR 3,500 for the sea freight, medium household furniture from SAR 5,000, and a small car from SAR 12,000 including what follows the port. For international postal parcels a tariff of roughly SAR 180 per kilogram is published. The spread comes from each figure stopping at a different point, so ask before comparing: is the price to the Belgian port or to the door of the home? And does it include transport from Makkah?
| What sets the price | Its effect on a Makkah shipment |
|---|---|
| Volume or weight | The cubic metre by sea and the chargeable weight by air. Estimate it with the CBM calculator |
| Loading location | A district on a hillside needs a small vehicle and more labour than a flat one |
| Season | The Hajj days and the end of Ramadan bring higher demand and tighter time |
How do you cut the cost?
- Combine your family’s or travel companions’ baggage in one shipment, so the minimum charge is paid once, not several times.
- Dismantle beds, wardrobes and tables, since you pay for volume, not weight.
- Complete the relief file before loading, because 21% tax is larger than any discount on the freight.
Each factor is explained on the pricing factors page.
What sets shipping from Mecca apart?
Loading in Makkah involves calculations other cities do not know. An international shipment never leaves it directly; it always passes through Jeddah. A large truck cannot enter its districts at every hour, and the restrictions tighten as a season approaches. Many of its houses stand on slopes where no container can stop. And half the senders live in a hotel room, not a house. Someone who knows these things gives you an appointment he can keep:
| The reality in Makkah | What follows from it | How we act |
|---|---|---|
| No port and no airport | Every shipment to Belgium starts with a road leg to Jeddah | A closed truck to the port or airport on the collection day |
| Regulated hours for truck entry | Loading has a set time that cannot be exceeded | We fix the appointment in advance and confirm the hours in force before the day |
| Ramadan and Hajj | Tighter restrictions and congested roads | We load before the peak or hold the shipment until after it |
| Hillside districts | The container cannot reach the door | A small vehicle carries the goods to the truck in the nearest wide street |
| Hotel accommodation | No space for packing and no time | Collection from reception against a receipt, and packing in our warehouse |
When a container cannot stand at the house, we load the furniture in a closed truck, stuff it into the container inside our warehouse near the port, and send you photos of the stuffing and the seal number.
Shipping Umrah belongings and household cartons from Mecca to Belgium

Belgium has a large Muslim community, mostly in Brussels, Antwerp, Charleroi and Liège, and from it Umrah and Hajj pilgrims come every year. The visitor goes back with dates, prayer rugs, abayas, prayer beads and gifts for many relatives and neighbours, and an aircraft baggage allowance is not enough for that. So he travels light, and his belongings follow him home. Beside him is a family living in Makkah gathering the cartons of its home before moving. Both cases are served the same way: packing on the spot, a small vehicle, and a numbered inventory.
| Case | Method | Time from Makkah | Price starts from |
|---|---|---|---|
| A carton or suitcase for one pilgrim | Air via Jeddah airport | 3–6 days | SAR 23 per kilogram |
| Cartons of a family or several pilgrims | Sea part load | 30–38 days | SAR 5,500 for the part load |
| Cartons of a whole home with its furniture | Full container | 25–35 days | SAR 11,000 |
- Packing inside the flat: the team brings the cartons, wrap and tape and packs in the room itself, so you carry nothing down to the street.
- A small vehicle for narrow streets: in the hillside districts and around the central area, the small vehicle carries the cartons to the truck waiting in a street wide enough for it.
- Numbering and listing the cartons: a number on every carton matches a line in the list giving the contents, quantity and value, and you sign it before the team leaves.
- Collection from the hotel: the pieces are handed over at reception or to the group leader, and a receipt is written with their number and weight.
- What comes out of the carton: Zamzam water, ghee and cheese, alcohol-based perfumes in air freight, and cash, gold and passports.
The Belgian broker does not mix used with new. Your clothes and the things you travelled with are personal effects. Twenty new rugs or a carton of abayas in their wrappers, however, are counted at their value, and in quantity are treated as goods. That is why we separate the two parts in the list from the start.
Packing and protecting shipments from Mecca to Belgium
What is packed in Makkah is opened in a rainy, cold country a month later. The metal container heats up in the Red Sea and cools in the North Sea, so vapour condenses inside it as drops on the roof and walls. Before that, the cartons are carried by hand on a staircase or a slope, then moved from a small vehicle to a truck to a container. So packing here allows for repeated handling and for moisture together.
- Carpets and prayer rugs: rolled, not folded, covered in breathable paper and then an outer wrap, with a moisture-absorbing sachet.
- Wood and furniture: removal blankets, then corrugated card and reinforced corners, with plastic never touching polished wood directly.
- Glass, mirrors, gilded Qurans and paintings: in crates of heat-treated timber bearing the ISPM 15 stamp.
The packing guide lists the materials and how each is used, while the packing and lashing page shows how a load is held firm in the container.
Furniture shipping and transfer-of-residence relief in Belgium
A resident leaving Makkah for Belgium for good asks first about customs, not the freight, and rightly so. Used household furniture may enter free of duty and tax, or 21% of its value plus its freight may be charged on it. What separates the two is the transfer-of-residence relief conditions that Belgian customs apply under the European regime. These are the ones in current practice, and we confirm what is in force with our broker before loading:
| Condition | Detail |
|---|---|
| Previous residence | At least 12 consecutive months outside the European Union |
| Ownership and use of the goods | 6 months before the move, so new items in their boxes are not exempt |
| Deadline for entry | Within 12 months of the date you settle in Belgium |
| Shipping before you arrive | Possible with an undertaking to settle within 6 months, and a financial security may be required |
| After entry | Not sold, lent or hired out for 12 months without notifying customs |
| Proof | Evidence of your residence in the Kingdom, and your registration at the commune of your Belgian home |
On the Saudi side, your residence in Makkah is proved by the registered tenancy contract, the residence pages in the passport and the final exit visa. We write the contents list during packing, carton by carton, in the language required by the customs office your address falls under: French for Charleroi, Namur and Liège, Dutch for Antwerp and Ghent, and either for Brussels. Service details are on the furniture shipping page.
Full container or part load?
Volume settles the question, not preference. A full container is booked for you alone, sealed after stuffing and opened only on arrival. A part load puts your cartons with other people’s in one container, so you pay only for the metres you occupy. Most Makkah shipments to Belgium are part loads, because most are visitors’ baggage and family cartons rather than whole households.
| Comparison | Part load | 20-foot container | 40-foot container |
|---|---|---|---|
| Suitable volume | Up to 15 m³ | 15–28 m³ | 30–60 m³ |
| Example from Makkah | A group’s baggage, or family cartons and a bedroom | A flat of two to three rooms | A villa, or furniture with a car |
| Time | 30–38 days | 25–35 days | 25–35 days |
| Price starts from | SAR 5,500 | SAR 11,000 for full household furniture | Set on request |
If your volume is between 12 and 15 cubic metres, ask for both prices together. At that level the two figures come close, and a private container means less handling and a shorter time. Internal dimensions are on the container sizes page, and container rates from the port are in the article container shipping prices from Jeddah.
Parcels, gifts and documents from Mecca to Belgium
Not everything leaving Makkah is a stack of cartons. A mother sends her daughter in Brussels an Eid dress, an employee sends an attested certificate to a university in Leuven, and a pilgrim who forgot to buy a gift orders it after returning. These are small shipments that travel by express door to door and are delivered against the consignee’s signature.
- Price: from SAR 110 for a parcel up to 5 kg, from SAR 83 for documents up to one kilogram, and from SAR 23 per kilogram above that.
- A gift between two individuals: current practice exempts an occasional consignment worth no more than 45 euros, and above that tax and duty are charged. We confirm the threshold in force before sending.
- Purchases: every commercial parcel has value added tax charged on it, however small its value.
- The address: the street, house number and box number if any, the four-digit postcode, and a Belgian mobile.
How parcels are shipped is on the parcel shipping page.
Shipping commercial goods from Mecca to Belgium
Makkah’s trade with Belgium is small in volume and specific in its items: prayer rugs, prayer beads, abayas and headscarves, incense and oud, dates, and Qurans and books. They are ordered by the owners of Islamic shops and bookshops in Belgian cities. This is mostly light, high-value merchandise, so a sea part load suits the quantities and air suits urgent orders before Ramadan and the Eids.
- Importer number: the Belgian buyer needs a European customs identification number before the goods arrive.
- Duty and tax: a duty under the European tariff heading for each item, and on top of it 21% value added tax in most cases.
- Textiles: a label on every piece showing the fibre composition, which is a condition for selling them on the European market.
- Dates and foodstuffs: a label in the language of the sales region with the ingredients, country of origin, importer’s name and best-before date.
- Oud wood and oil: from species regulated by the CITES convention, and a commercial quantity needs an export certificate and an import permit.
Details are on the commercial shipping page.
Car shipping from Mecca to Belgium
The car is not driven from Makkah to the port. A car carrier takes it from the house or showroom to Jeddah port within hours, and there it is handed to the shipping line. Most cars travel on RoRo vessels to Zeebrugge, one of the largest car ports in Europe. These are the three shipping methods:
| Method | How it works | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| RoRo to Zeebrugge | The car enters the vessel’s hold on its wheels and is lashed, shipped empty of belongings | An ordinary running car, and it is the cheapest |
| 20-foot container to Antwerp | Secured with straps and timber chocks, and the container is sealed | Luxury and classic cars and any whose engine does not run |
| 40-foot container | A car together with the household furniture | A family moving with its home and its car |
Sea freight for a saloon starts from SAR 2,800 from Jeddah port, a four-wheel drive costs more because the charge is by volume, and transport from Makkah to the port is set on request. Before handover we photograph the car from every side, leave a quarter of a tank of fuel, and take every personal item out of it. The difference between the two methods is on the RoRo car shipping and container car shipping pages.
The freight is the smallest of the car’s items. Current practice in Belgium is a 10% customs duty on the value of the car with its freight, then 21% value added tax on the total, unless it comes under transfer-of-residence relief. After clearance, customs issue the clearance notice without which the car cannot be registered, followed by the technical inspection, Belgian insurance, registration, and a registration tax that differs between Flanders, Wallonia and Brussels. A car built to Gulf specifications may need individual approval and modifications to lighting and emissions. Brussels, Antwerp and Ghent have low-emission zones that some older cars may not enter. So tell us your address and your car’s year of manufacture and we will work it out with you before you book. General conditions are in the article car shipping from Saudi Arabia.
Belgian customs and the documents required
Belgium is a member of the European Union, so its customs apply the common European tariff and add value added tax at the national rate of 21%. Two declarations are lodged for every shipment coming from Makkah: a Saudi export declaration that we issue, and an import declaration lodged by our broker in Antwerp or at the arrival airport. The accuracy of the paperwork is what decides whether your shipment leaves in two days or stays a week. This is what is required for each type:
| Type of shipment | Documents | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Umrah or Hajj pilgrim’s baggage | Passport copy, contents list with values, and the consignee’s address and mobile | Used items are separated from new gifts |
| Furniture of someone moving residence | Passport, proof of both residences, signed list and bill of lading | The name on the bill of lading as in the passport |
| Student baggage | Passport and visa, university enrolment certificate, and contents list | Accommodation address with the room number |
| Commercial goods | A commercial invoice with its packing list, the bill of lading, an origin certificate, and the Belgian importer’s EU customs number | Extra certificates for foodstuffs and oud |
| Car | Registration and export certificate, passport, and purchase invoice | The registration tax is checked by region |
For what each paper means, see the shipping documents page; for how release proceeds step by step, the customs clearance page.
What cannot be shipped from Mecca to Belgium or needs a permit
What the European Union’s borders ban most strictly in individuals’ baggage is food of animal origin. The visitor falls into this unintentionally by putting a tin of ghee, cheese or dried meat among the gifts. And Makkah has an item of its own that is always asked about, which is Zamzam water. We go through the cartons with you at the inventory, and these are the main items:
| Item | Ruling |
|---|---|
| Zamzam water | Not shipped; what is allowed is the traveller’s dedicated pack carried in person |
| Meat, dairy, ghee and cheese | Banned in personal baggage and parcels |
| Honey | A limited personal quantity, and we confirm the limit in force |
| Packaged dates | Allowed in a personal quantity |
| Oud wood and oud oil | A small personal quantity; commercial with a CITES certificate |
| Alcohol-based perfumes and lithium batteries | Restricted by air, and shipped by sea |
| Medicines | A personal quantity with a prescription |
| Weapons, daggers and ornamental swords | Banned without a licence |
| Cash, gold and passports | Not placed in the shipment; they stay with the traveller |
The full general list appears on the prohibited items page. Unsure about something? Photograph it for us while its carton is still unsealed.
Delivering Mecca shipments in Brussels, Charleroi and Namur

Belgium is a small country, and the city furthest from the port of Antwerp is reached by truck in about two hours. So the road after the port is not long, and what takes time is clearance and then arranging an appointment that suits the consignee. Our agent starts by lodging the import declaration, and after release calls the consignee to agree the day and hour. Then the shipment goes out in a distribution vehicle to the door, and the team carries it inside the home.
| City | Distance from Antwerp | Delivery note |
|---|---|---|
| Brussels and its suburbs | About 45 km | Parking-reservation signs are requested from the commune days ahead, and streets in the old districts are narrow |
| Antwerp and Mechelen | Up to 25 km | Sometimes delivered on the day of release itself |
| Ghent and Leuven | About 60 km | Two university cities, with most shipments for students |
| Charleroi | About 100 km | In Wallonia south of Brussels, with dealings in French |
| Namur | About 110 km | The capital of Wallonia, with narrow cobbled streets in its old centre |
| Liège | About 130 km | In the east of the country, with the cargo airport |
The traditional Belgian house is tall and narrow, three or four storeys high, and neither a sofa nor a wardrobe passes up its staircase. So the usual practice there is an outside ladder lift that raises furniture to the window. Write to us with the floor, the width of the stairs and whether the building has a lift, so the hoist comes with the truck and not a day after it. Destination details are on the shipping to Belgium page.
Services for individuals, companies, embassies and consulates
Customers on this route in Makkah fall into four groups, and what each asks for differs. An individual wants to hand over the cartons and travel with peace of mind. A group organiser wants a manifest in which the baggage of a hundred people does not get mixed. A company wants a tax invoice and a fixed schedule. And an official body wants a procedure that respects the status of its shipment. We arrange the service for each separately:
| Customer | What they need | What we provide |
|---|---|---|
| Individuals and families | Shipping baggage or a home without daily follow-up | Collection from the door, an itemised price, and one member of staff following up until delivery |
| Hajj and Umrah groups | A lot of baggage under many names in a short time | Numbered tags, a manifest for the leader, and collection from the hotel at one appointment |
| Traders and companies | Repeat orders and orderly paperwork | A tax invoice, a periodic contract, and a status report on every shipment |
| Embassies, consulates and Hajj missions | Staff baggage, correspondence and seasonal supplies | Coordination with the administration, and a file with the body’s letter |
The baggage of a transferred diplomatic employee is cleared in Belgium according to his status and what his organisation decides, so we ask for its letter among the papers before shipping.
Air freight from Mecca to Belgium

Air freight from Makkah starts by road. We collect the parcel or carton from your home or hotel and take it to the cargo village at King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah, about an hour and a half from Makkah. There it is weighed, measured and security-screened, then loaded. There are direct flights between Jeddah and Brussels that cover the distance in about six hours, their schedules change between seasons, and whatever finds no space on them travels on a connecting flight. Belgium has two cargo airports: Brussels, close to the capital, and Liège, one of the largest air cargo hubs in Europe. Door to door takes 3 to 6 days.
- For whom: urgent parcels and cartons, pilgrims’ suitcases, documents, commercial samples, and shop orders before the seasons.
- Calculation: we weigh and measure the carton, then charge on the higher of its actual and its volumetric weight, meaning its three dimensions in centimetres multiplied and then divided by 6000. Try the volumetric weight calculator before packing.
- Price: the kilogram starts from SAR 23 with a discount for heavier weights, a documents envelope starts from SAR 83, and a parcel of five kilograms or less starts from SAR 110.
- Delivery inside Belgium: after clearance at the airport the shipment goes out to your address in any city, usually within a day.
- What does not pass: alcohol-based perfumes in quantity, aerosol cans, loose lithium batteries and Zamzam water.
- What it does not suit: furniture and large carpets, whose freight by air is several times that by sea.
More about the service sits on the air freight page, and what happens at the airport is covered in the article air freight office in Jeddah.
Air, sea or land to Belgium?
What is weighed in kilograms boards the aircraft, and what is measured in metres boards the vessel. A pilgrim usually combines the two, sending the awaited carton of gifts by air to arrive with him and leaving the rugs and the larger amount of dates to the sea. As for the road, we do not use it for Belgium: a truck would have to cross the frontiers of numerous states, whereas a sea container reaches Antwerp with its seal intact and for a smaller fare. The methods are compared on the shipping methods comparison page.
Collection from Mecca’s districts and the surrounding area
We reach any district in Makkah and choose the vehicle by the street, not by the shipment. In flat districts such as Al-Sharaie, Al-Awali, Al-Shawqiyah, Al-Nawwariyah and Wali Al-Ahd the truck stops at the door. In Aziziyah, Al-Naseem, Batha Quraysh and Al-Zaidi the team enters during the permitted hours. In hillside districts such as Kudai, Al-Misfalah, Jarwal, Al-Otaibiyah and Rei Dhakhir the small vehicle goes ahead of the truck. We also collect from hotels and from nearby towns, and their shipment joins the same run to Jeddah:
| Place | Distance from Makkah | How we collect |
|---|---|---|
| Hotels in the central area and Aziziyah | Inside Makkah | From reception against a receipt, at hours when stopping is allowed |
| Hillside districts | Inside Makkah | A small vehicle, then a truck in a wide street |
| Al-Jumum | About 25 km | On Makkah’s own loading day |
| Bahrah and Al-Shumaisi | On the Jeddah road | Picked up by the truck on its way to the port |
| Taif | About 90 km | Brought in a day ahead and added to the Makkah shipment |
For someone who has vacated the house and whose Belgian address is not yet ready, or who is waiting for commune registration to complete the relief file, we keep the goods in a closed warehouse, packed and numbered, and ship them when he gives the word. Storage terms are on the storage page, and the cities we serve on the service cities page.
Steps for shipping from Mecca to Belgium
- The request: you send what you are shipping, your district or hotel in Makkah, and your Belgian city with its postcode.
- Establishing your status: visitor, mover of residence, student or trader. The customs paperwork is built on it.
- The price: we estimate the volume or weight from photos or a survey and send you the price itemised.
- The appointment: we fix the collection hour within the times permitted for vehicle entry.
- Collection: packing, numbering and inventory on the spot, and you sign the list.
- To Jeddah: a closed truck to the port, or to the cargo village at the airport.
- Shipping and follow-up: you receive the container or air waybill number, and a message at every stop.
- Clearance and delivery: the agent clears in Antwerp or at the airport and sets the day with you, then unloading and a signed receipt.
Shipment follow-up, technology, customer service and insurance
Whoever hands over baggage in Makkah and travels does not see the shipment for a whole month, so follow-up for him is no luxury. We rely on two things for it: digital tracking systems that read the position of the container and the aircraft from the source, and a member of staff who knows your file and answers you by name. The systems alert us to a delayed voyage or a changed route and help us pick the shortest one on the booking day, while the decision on your file stays with a person who reviews your papers and talks to you.
- Tracking: you enter the container number at the shipping line’s site, or the air waybill number at the airline’s, as shown on the track your shipment page.
- Our messages: when the shipment leaves Makkah, enters the port or airport, sails, passes Suez, berths in Antwerp, and is released.
- Customer service: from 7 am to 11 pm by call or WhatsApp, and our answer reaches you in Belgium just as it does in Makkah.
- Insurance: your choice, priced as a share of the value you declare, and it answers for loss or damage between the Makkah doorstep and the Belgian one. See the cargo insurance page for its terms.
Shipping from Belgium to Mecca
The route works in both directions. Someone coming for Hajj from Belgium may send ahead what he needs for a long stay, someone returning to Makkah after years of study or work ships a household, and a buyer from Belgian shops needs someone to take delivery on his behalf. Our agent collects from the address there and combines purchases from more than one shop in a single shipment.
- By air: to Jeddah airport, then delivery to your district in Makkah after clearance.
- By sea: from Antwerp to Jeddah Islamic Port, then a truck to Makkah during the permitted hours.
- Saudi customs: whatever the returnee has used of his belongings is cleared as personal effects according to the list, while anything new is charged its item duty and 15% value added tax.

Tips before shipping from Mecca to Belgium
- Choose the method before you buy: what you will ship by sea, buy at the start of your trip, and what you will ship by air can wait until its end.
- Do not put off the handover to the departure day, especially after Hajj and in the last ten nights of Ramadan.
- Separate new gifts from your used belongings in two cartons and two lists.
- Go over the customs papers with our staff before loading, not after, especially the relief file.
- Register at the commune of your Belgian home as soon as you arrive, since the registration certificate is part of the relief file.
How do you choose a shipping company from Mecca to Belgium?
Offers in Makkah are plentiful in the seasons, and some appear with the season and vanish after it. A pilgrim pays and travels, and if his baggage runs into trouble he finds no one to ask. So ask before you hand over a single carton, and compare the answers with this table:
| What you ask about | A reassuring answer | A worrying answer |
|---|---|---|
| Legal standing | A commercial registration, a fixed address and a stamped receipt | A rep in the hotel lobby with no papers |
| Weight | Weighs in front of you and writes the weight on the receipt | An estimate by eye, or a weight announced after you travel |
| Belgian customs | Asks about your status and separates new from used | “No customs on baggage”, with no detail |
| Zamzam water | Refuses it and explains why | Accepts it to gain the weight |
| Delivery | An agent in Belgium and delivery to the door | “You collect from the port”, after payment |
Common mistakes when shipping from Mecca to Belgium
- Handing baggage to a rep with no stamped receipt and no written weight.
- Putting a bottle of Zamzam or a tin of ghee among the gifts.
- Writing “personal effects” on a carton holding thirty new abayas.
- Waiting for the last day after Hajj to ask for shipping.
- Shipping furniture before registering at the Belgian commune, so the relief is delayed and storage charges pile up.
- Counting the car’s freight and forgetting the duty, the tax and the registration tax.
- Overlooking the narrow staircase in the Belgian house, so the sofa arrives and does not go in.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Mecca to Belgium
How much does shipping from Mecca to Belgium cost?
It depends on the method. Through Jeddah airport the kilogram starts from SAR 23, an express documents envelope from SAR 83 and a parcel within 5 kg from SAR 110. Over the sea out of Jeddah port, furniture as a part load starts from SAR 5,500, a container for a whole home from SAR 11,000 and a saloon car from SAR 2,800. Message 0552803439 with your list and your Belgian city, and the exact figure comes back to you.
How many days does a shipment need from Makkah to reach Belgium?
By aircraft, 3 to 6 days to the consignee’s door. By full container, 25 to 35 days, of which 14 to 20 are at sea between Jeddah and Antwerp. By part load, 30 to 38 days, because your cartons wait for the shared container to fill and are then sorted in a Belgian warehouse before they go out to you.
Makkah has no port, so where does my shipment sail from?
From Jeddah Islamic Port, about 80 km from Makkah. We move your goods there in a closed truck on the collection day or the day after, and there they are loaded into the container or enter the consolidation warehouse. From Jeddah the vessel heads north straight to the Suez Canal, so no days are lost sailing round the Arabian Peninsula.
I am an Umrah pilgrim from Belgium staying in a hotel; will you collect from me?
Yes. You leave your suitcases and cartons at the hotel reception or with your group leader, and we collect them against a receipt showing the number of pieces, your name as in your passport and your Belgian address. We weigh every piece in front of you or the leader, so you know the amount before you leave Makkah.
Do you ship Zamzam water with baggage to Belgium?
No. Zamzam water is not accepted as cargo and is not placed in shipped cartons or suitcases; what is allowed is the dedicated pack the traveller carries from the airport, as the airline decides.
Do I pay customs on my used furniture in Belgium?
You do not if you are moving your place of residence there and meet the transfer-of-residence relief conditions applied in the European Union: 12 consecutive months living outside it, ownership and use of the goods for 6 months, and bringing them in within 12 months of settling. Anyone who does not meet the conditions pays a duty by item and 21% value added tax. We check what is in force with our broker before loading.
Which Belgian port does the container arrive at?
Furniture and goods containers arrive at the port of Antwerp, about 45 km from Brussels. Cars shipped on RoRo vessels come off at Zeebrugge on the North Sea coast. We choose between them by what you are shipping.
Do you deliver to Charleroi and Namur, or only to Brussels?
We deliver to all three cities and to others. Brussels and its suburbs are less than an hour from the port, Charleroi about 100 km, and Namur about 110 km. The shipment is cleared first and then goes out to your address in a distribution vehicle.
Do you ship a car from Makkah to Belgium?
Yes. A car carrier takes it from Makkah to Jeddah port, then it sails on a RoRo vessel to Zeebrugge or inside a container to Antwerp. Sea freight for a saloon starts from SAR 2,800 from Jeddah port. In Belgium, 10% duty and 21% tax are paid unless the car comes under transfer-of-residence relief, followed by the technical inspection, registration and its tax, which differs between the regions.
Do Saudi electrical appliances work in Belgium?
The voltage is close, 230 volts in both countries, but the frequency is 50 hertz in Belgium and 60 hertz in the Kingdom. The Belgian socket is round with two pins and a protruding earth pin, so you need a plug adaptor for every appliance. Check the label of every appliance with a motor or compressor before shipping it.
What should I not put in Makkah cartons bound for Belgium?
Meat, dairy, ghee and anything made from them, Zamzam water, medicines without a prescription, counterfeits, and alcohol-based perfumes and loose lithium batteries in air freight. Oud wood and oud oil are named in the list because their species are regulated by an international convention.
Are dates, prayer rugs and abayas allowed?
Yes, in personal quantities. Packaged dates normally enter the European Union without a plant health certificate, unlike most fruit, and prayer rugs, abayas and prayer beads are ordinary belongings written in the list with their number and value.
When should I hand over my baggage if I am leaving after Hajj?
At least three days before you travel, and earlier if you can. In the two weeks after Hajj demand surges, truck movement inside Makkah and on the Jeddah road is restricted, and the air cargo warehouse at the airport fills up.
Is insurance on the shipment compulsory?
It is not compulsory; it is a separate item in the price, calculated as a percentage of the value you write against each line of the contents list. We consider it necessary for full household furniture, a car and appliances, because the shipment passes between three vehicles and then spends weeks at sea.
Do you also ship from Belgium to Makkah?
Yes. Our agent collects from the home or shop in Brussels, Antwerp, Charleroi and elsewhere, and the shipment comes by air to Jeddah airport or by sea to Jeddah Islamic Port, then we deliver it to your district in Makkah. A returnee’s used baggage is cleared as personal effects with a contents list, and new items carry a duty by item and 15% value added tax.
