Who ships from Jeddah to Belgium, and what do they ship?
Jeddah is a city of a port, consulates and universities, and the gateway for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims. That is why the people asking for this route here are more varied than in any other city in the Kingdom. There are Europeans who work in companies and at the university in nearby Thuwal and then go home with their households, students heading for Leuven and Ghent, exporters, and pilgrims from Belgium’s Muslim community who send their purchases rather than pay excess baggage at the airport. This is what suits each of them:
| Shipper | What they ship | Best method | Status at Belgian customs |
|---|---|---|---|
| A European returning from work in Jeddah or Thuwal | Household furniture, appliances and a car | A 20 or 40 ft container | Transfer-of-residence relief if the conditions are met |
| A Saudi moving to work in Brussels | Family baggage and some furniture | Part load by sea and suitcases by air | The same relief after registering at the commune |
| A student in Leuven or Ghent | Books, winter clothes and residence items | Cartons in a shared container | Relief for study items with proof of admission |
| A Hajj or Umrah pilgrim from Belgium | Dates, prayer rugs and gifts | An air parcel or sea cartons | Personal gifts within their value limit |
| A car owner | An ordinary, luxury or classic car | RoRo vessel to Zeebrugge, or a container | Duty and tax, or the mover’s relief |
| An exporter or trader | Foodstuffs, plastics and factory products | A full container, and samples by aircraft | Duty by tariff heading and 21% tax |
The shipping route from Jeddah to Belgium and its duration
A Jeddah shipment starts where the first stage ends for shipments from inland cities: at the quay. From your district to the gate of Jeddah Islamic Port is a run of an hour or less, so no two or three days of road are counted in the time. The vessel then heads north to the Suez Canal, the Mediterranean and Gibraltar, and climbs along the coasts of Portugal and France to the North Sea. These are the stages of a full container, day by day:
| Stage | What happens | Usual time |
|---|---|---|
| Loading in Jeddah | Dismantling, packing, numbering and loading inside the container | One day in most cases |
| Export and waiting for the vessel | Export declaration and the container entering the port yard | 3–6 days |
| Sailing | Red Sea, Suez, Mediterranean, Gibraltar, North Sea | 14–20 days |
| Belgian clearance | Import declaration and the relief decision or payment of tax | 2–5 working days |
| Delivery inside Belgium | From the quay to the address, with unloading | 1–2 days |
The time changes with the method. Someone sharing a container waits for it to fill, someone shipping a car waits for the car carrier’s date, and someone sending a parcel cuts all of that short with an aircraft:
| Method | Route | Door-to-door time | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full container | Jeddah port → Zeebrugge or Antwerp | 25–35 days | A whole household and wholesale goods |
| Part load | A shared container sorted in a Belgian warehouse | 30–38 days | Anything under 15 cubic metres |
| RoRo vessel | Jeddah port → Zeebrugge | 24–32 days | A car whose engine runs |
| Air | King Abdulaziz Airport → Brussels or Liège | 3–6 days | Parcels, documents and urgent spare parts |
What lengthens the time?
- Vessels rerouted: some lines may take the Cape of Good Hope route instead of Suez in certain periods, adding a week or more to the sailing. We tell you your voyage’s route at booking.
- Registering at the commune: the relief depends on your registered Belgian address, and a container that gets ahead of it waits in the port.
- The Hajj season: traffic at Jeddah’s port and airport is heavy in the weeks of the season, so we book well before it.
Times for the other destinations are on the transit times page.
Sea freight from Jeddah to Belgium via Zeebrugge

Zeebrugge is a port on the North Sea that belongs to the municipality of Bruges and lies about 15 km from its centre. Together with Antwerp it now forms one port under a joint administration. Zeebrugge is known as one of the largest car ports in the world, yet it also has a deep container quay that receives long-haul line vessels. Its position on the open coast spares the ship the hours of sailing up the River Scheldt needed to reach Antwerp.
The container with your furniture or goods leaves Jeddah in one of two sizes: 20 ft or 40 ft, full for you alone or shared with others. The shipping line decides where it berths: some lines call at Zeebrugge directly, some reach it with a change of vessel, and most head for Antwerp about 100 km away. It makes no practical difference to the consignee, since clearance is the same and a truck reaches any Belgian city from either port within hours. We choose for you on three points:
| Comparison | Zeebrugge | Antwerp |
|---|---|---|
| Location | On the North Sea coast, adjoining Bruges | Inland on the River Scheldt |
| What dominates | Cars and RoRo vessels, with a container quay | Containers, chemicals and general cargo |
| When we choose it | For every car, and for a container whose line calls there | When its vessel date is nearer or your address is in the east |
The container is sealed at the door of your home in Jeddah with a seal number written on the bill of lading, and it is not opened until it reaches Belgium unless customs asks for an inspection. The service is explained on the sea freight page, and leaving the port is detailed in the article international sea freight from Jeddah.
The cost of shipping from Jeddah to Belgium
The price on this route follows the unit of measure, and the unit of measure follows what you ship. A car is priced by its class and size, furniture by the cubic metre or the container, and a parcel by the kilogram. A Jeddah shipment has no line for a long road haul to the port, which is something a shipper from an inland city pays. These are the figures our services start from:
| What you ship | Method | Price starts from |
|---|---|---|
| A saloon car | RoRo vessel from Jeddah port to Zeebrugge | SAR 2,800 |
| Furniture and baggage | Part load by sea | SAR 5,500 |
| A full household | Full container | SAR 11,000 |
| Parcels, suitcases and spare parts | Air from King Abdulaziz Airport | SAR 23 per kilogram |
| A parcel up to 5 kg | Express | SAR 110 |
| Documents up to one kilogram | Express | SAR 83 |
| A 4×4 or luxury car in a container | A sealed 20 ft container | Set on request |
| A container of commercial goods or equipment | 20 or 40 ft, or a special container | Set on request |
An air example: an Umrah pilgrim going home to Antwerp left two cartons with us with a chargeable weight of 30 kg, so their charge is 30 × 23, that is from SAR 690. Had there been twelve cartons, their place would have been a shared container, not an aircraft.
Prices quoted in the market for this route are few and uneven. The websites offering shipping to Belgium describe the service and the ports and publish no figures in riyals, so most of what people pass around are general numbers: about SAR 350 for an air parcel of no more than 5 kg, between SAR 500 and 1,500 for an electronic device or a medium shipment by aircraft, from SAR 2,500 for someone sending a little furniture by air, from SAR 7,000 for a 20 ft container, and from SAR 12,000 for a car with clearance and delivery inside Belgium. The spread comes from what each figure includes, so before you compare, ask: is the price to the port or to the front door?
| What sets the price | Its effect on a Jeddah shipment |
|---|---|
| Volume or weight | The cubic metre by sea and the chargeable weight by air. Estimate it with the volume calculator |
| Closeness to the port | Loading inside Jeddah adds no road charge worth mentioning |
| Scope of service | To the quay at Zeebrugge or Antwerp, or to the room with assembly |
| The Belgian house | A narrow staircase or an upper floor calls for an outside ladder lift |
| Class of car | A 4×4 and a small van cost more than a saloon |
How do you bring the cost down?
- Send a running car on a RoRo vessel, and keep the container for a car that deserves the extra protection.
- Register your address at the Belgian commune before the container arrives, since port storage there is charged by the day.
- Do not ship an old fridge and washing machine; the frequency differs and their price there is close to the cost of moving them.
- Hand us the cartons weeks before your travel date, so they go by sea and you are not forced onto an aircraft.
For how every one of these items moves the bill, see the pricing factors page; for what a box costs quay to quay, read container shipping prices from Jeddah.
Jeddah as a starting point: sea and air to Europe, road to the Gulf
Three things come together in Jeddah and in no other Saudi city on the Red Sea: the Kingdom’s largest container port, an international airport with a cargo village, and a road network linking both to Makkah, Madinah and Riyadh. Because the port sits on the shipping lane between Asia and Europe, a Belgium container starts its voyage halfway to Suez, not from the Arabian Gulf, whose vessels sail round the whole peninsula.
That explains why we offer only sea and air to Belgium. The overland route to Europe crosses many countries with transit formalities in each, and we do not rely on it for private shipments. The Gulf states and Jordan are the opposite: the closed truck is the rule and the aircraft is for urgent items.
- Truck hours: the movement of large trucks inside Jeddah is regulated by hours set by the traffic department, so we time loading around them and confirm what is in force before the day.
- Our warehouse: it receives what is gathered from Jeddah’s districts and from Makkah and Taif, and from it the part load moves to the port.
Our other services in the city are in the article international shipping companies in Jeddah, and the truck route to the neighbours is in the article shipping from Saudi Arabia to the Gulf states.
Shipping furniture and household goods from Jeddah to Belgium
The difference between a home in Jeddah and a home in Belgium shows at the door. Jeddah’s flats and villas have wide entrances, while the old town houses of Belgian cities are tall and narrow, with a steep staircase that neither a wardrobe nor a three-seat sofa will climb. The usual answer there is a ladder lift that stands in the street and raises the piece to the window of the floor.
- The survey: a visit in Jeddah or a video call, producing a list of pieces and an approximate volume in cubic metres.
- Sorting: pieces that ship, pieces that will not get into the new house and are sold or given away in Jeddah, and first essentials that go ahead of you by aircraft.
- Dismantling: bedrooms, bookcases and dining tables become numbered panels, and each bag of screws is taped to its panel.
- Loading: the container stands at the house if the street is wide enough; otherwise we move the furniture in a closed truck to the warehouse and load it there.
- In Belgium: the commune is asked to reserve a space for the truck with no-parking signs days ahead, then unloading, assembly and removal of the packing waste.
The towers on Jeddah’s Corniche require the service lift to be booked in advance, so we arrange it before the loading day. The service is detailed on the furniture shipping page.
Packing and wrapping before shipping from Jeddah to Belgium
Jeddah furniture lives in high coastal humidity and heat, and then the door of a metal container closes on it, crossing the Red Sea in summer and arriving in the cold North Sea. The water vapour that went in with the furniture condenses on the container roof as it cools and drips on what is below. So packing here begins with drying what is loaded before anything else, and then keeps it away from the container’s walls and roof.
- Wood: removal blankets and then corrugated board, with no plastic touching a painted or polished surface.
- Glass, marble and mirrors: crates of heat-treated timber bearing the ISPM 15 stamp, since raw timber is refused at Union ports.
- Appliances: the fridge and the portable air conditioner are drained of water, and the washing machine drum is locked with its transit bolts.
- Numbering: every carton has a number and every number a line in a list written in English, which is also accepted there in Dutch or French.
Every material has its own method in the packing guide, and how pieces are tied down to the container floor and walls is shown on the packing and lashing page.
Transfer-of-residence relief in Belgium
Anyone moving their normal place of residence from outside the European Union to Belgium brings in their used personal belongings free of duty and tax. The application goes to the customs office covering your new address, by appointment, and the application for a car goes to a higher authority at the regional customs centre. These are the conditions in current practice as published by the Belgian finance ministry, and we go through those in force with you before loading:
| Condition | Detail |
|---|---|
| Previous residence | At least 12 consecutive months outside the customs territory of the Union |
| Possession and use | At least 6 months at your former home before departure |
| Purpose | To be used at your Belgian home for the same purpose |
| Deadline for entry | Within 12 months of the date you settle in Belgium |
| Entry before settling | Possible against a financial security, provided you settle within 6 months |
| After entry | Not to be sold, lent, pledged or hired out for a full year without telling customs |
| What it does not cover | New items in their box, alcohol and tobacco, and commercial means of transport |
The file we prepare with you in Jeddah: the passport page, the signed contents list, proof that you lived in the Kingdom for a year such as a registered tenancy contract or an employer’s letter, and proof of your registration at the commune of your Belgian home. For a car, its registration document and proof that it has been in your name for six months. We start the file on the survey day, because the customs office appointment itself may be days away.
A full container or a shared one?
One number settles the decision: how many cubic metres you have after dismantling. A full container is booked for you alone and sealed in front of you, and you pay for it whether you fill it or not. In a shared one you pay for the space you took, but your belongings pass through a consolidation warehouse in Jeddah and a sorting warehouse in Belgium. Around 15 cubic metres the two prices draw close, so we work out both options side by side for you:
| Comparison | Shared | 20 ft container | 40 ft container |
|---|---|---|---|
| Suitable volume | Up to 15 cubic metres | 15–28 cubic metres | 30–60 cubic metres |
| An example from Jeddah | A student’s cartons, or a bedroom and a study | A flat of two or three rooms | A villa, or a flat with a car |
| Door-to-door time | 30–38 days | 25–35 days | 25–35 days |
| Price starts from | SAR 5,500 | SAR 11,000 for a full household | Set on request |
If you have a car and furniture together, a 40 ft container takes both: the car at the front secured with straps, then a timber bulkhead, then the furniture. The internal dimensions of each size are on the container sizes page.
Parcels, baggage and the gifts of Hajj and Umrah pilgrims
Belgium has a large Muslim community from which pilgrims come all year round, and most of them enter and leave the Kingdom through Jeddah airport. What they buy in the markets of Jeddah and Makkah exceeds what the return ticket allows: dates, prayer rugs, abayas, incense and gifts for the family. We collect these purchases from the hotel or from relatives’ homes, pack them and send them to their address in Antwerp, Brussels or Liège, so they travel with a cabin bag.
- An urgent parcel: by aircraft in 3 to 6 days, starting from SAR 110 for anything not over 5 kg.
- Dates: in sealed packs showing the contents, in quantities that read as personal use.
- A gift between individuals: Union rules have a small value limit below which it is exempt, and anything above is taxed. We confirm the limit in force before sending.
- Zamzam water: it is not shipped as cargo; what is allowed is the dedicated pack handed to the traveller at the airport.
The baggage of a student or a relocating employee is handled the same way: what is needed in the first week flies and the rest sails. How to prepare a parcel is on the parcel shipping page.
Shipping commercial goods from Jeddah to Belgium
The three industrial cities in Jeddah and the warehouses of Al-Khumra and the south of the city export foodstuffs, packed dates, plastic and paper products and building materials. Belgium is a convenient way in for them to the whole European market: goods cleared at Antwerp or Zeebrugge with their duties paid then move between Union countries with no new customs. Goods bound for another country leave the port under a transit document and are cleared in that country.
| Item | Shipping method | What it needs in Belgium |
|---|---|---|
| Dates and dry foods | A dry container on pallets | A label in the language of the country of sale, and the importer’s name and address inside the Union |
| Foods of animal origin | A refrigerated container | A veterinary certificate and entry through an approved border control post |
| Plastics and chemicals | A full container | A safety data sheet, and registration of the substance with the importer |
| Appliances, toys and cosmetics | Sea or air | The European conformity mark and a responsible representative inside the Union |
The Belgian importer needs a European customs identification number before the vessel arrives, and the import declaration is lodged electronically through an approved customs agent. Details are on the commercial shipping page.
Car shipping from Jeddah to Belgium

A car whose engine runs travels on RoRo vessels. A port driver takes it up the ship’s ramp to one of its inner decks, where it is lashed by its wheels with straps to rings in the floor, and it stays put until Zeebrugge. No crane and no container, which is why this is the cheapest method. Zeebrugge is its natural stop, a port set up to receive hundreds of thousands of cars every year, and from it the car goes by road to any address in Belgium or its neighbours.
| Method | How it works | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| RoRo vessel | The car is driven onto the deck and lashed by the wheels, and it ships empty of belongings | An ordinary running car |
| 20 ft container | It is secured with straps and timber chocks and the container is sealed in Jeddah | Luxury and classic cars and any whose engine does not run |
| 40 ft container | A car with the household furniture, or two cars | A family moving with its home and its car |
The charge starts from SAR 2,800 for a saloon from Jeddah port, and rises for a 4×4 because the calculation is on volume. Car carriers are fewer than container ships, and may reach Zeebrugge directly or after a stop at a Mediterranean port, so we give you the confirmed sailing date before you hand over the car. We take it from you at the port yard or from your home on a transporter, photograph it from every side and record the odometer reading.
We go through the import conditions before booking, because the sea charge is the smallest line on the bill. Current practice in Belgium:
- Duty and tax: customs takes 10% of what the car is worth with its transport added, and 21% value added tax is then charged on that sum; a mover holding the residence relief pays neither.
- Clearance notice: after payment an electronic notice is issued that reaches the vehicle registration office, and without it no plate is issued.
- Conformity: a Gulf-specification car carries no European certificate of conformity, so it goes through individual approval and a roadworthiness test, and changes to the lighting or a document proving the emissions class may be asked for.
- Registration tax: Flanders, Wallonia and Brussels each have their own method, based on emissions or on power and age.
- Low-emission zones: in Antwerp, Brussels and Ghent, and they ban older cars according to their class.
An example: a car worth SAR 62,800 with its shipping owes SAR 6,280 in duty and then SAR 14,507 in tax, before registration tax. The two methods are compared on the RoRo car shipping and container car shipping pages, and the general conditions are in the article car shipping from Saudi Arabia.
Belgian customs and the documents required
Belgium applies the European Union’s common customs tariff and adds its national value added tax, whose standard rate is 21%. The tax is calculated on the value of the goods plus the freight, the insurance and the duty. Clearance takes place at the first European port the shipment enters, unless it leaves that port under a transit document for another customs office. This is what we ask for by type:
| Type of shipment | Documents | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Furniture and baggage of someone moving residence | Passport, signed contents list, proof of both residences, and the bill of lading | The name on the bill of lading matches the passport letter for letter |
| A student’s baggage | Passport and visa, letter of admission, and the contents list | The residence address with the room number and postcode |
| A car | The original registration document, export certificate, purchase invoice and proof of identity | The registration conditions are checked before shipping |
| Commercial goods | Invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin, and the importer’s customs number | Extra certificates for foods and chemicals |
| A parcel or gift | The sender’s ID, and a statement of the items and their value | A Belgian mobile number for the consignee if there is one |
In Jeddah the export declaration is ours to issue. An expatriate departing permanently gives us a copy of the final exit visa where it applies, and a car owner brings the traffic department’s paper cancelling the registration for export. The shipping documents page describes every paper, and the customs clearance page walks through release.
What cannot be shipped to Belgium or needs a permit
What most often stops private shipments at the European border is not the dangerous banned item but food. A tin of ghee, some village cheese or cured meat among the kitchenware makes the inspector open every carton. Untreated timber in a crate or pallet is a second common cause. We go over this list with you before packing:
| Item | Ruling |
|---|---|
| Meat, dairy, ghee and their products | Banned in personal baggage and parcels |
| Live plants, seeds and soil | With a plant health certificate |
| Medicines | A personal quantity with a prescription, and narcotic ones with prior permission |
| Weapons, ammunition and combat knives | Banned without a Belgian licence |
| Ivory, skins of protected animals and coral | Banned without the international convention certificate |
| Counterfeits | Seized and destroyed, with a fine |
| Perfumes, aerosols and loose batteries | Restricted by air, and shipped by sea |
The general list is on the prohibited items page. If you do not find something there, send its photo before it goes into the carton.
Delivery in Antwerp, Bruges, Leuven and the other cities

After the vessel berths, our agent lodges the import declaration, and once customs gives the go-ahead the container leaves on a truck for your address. The order is always clearance, then delivery. Belgium is a small country, and its furthest cities from the coast are no more than three hours away by road. But each city has its character: Antwerp is a port city with a low-emission zone, Bruges is a historic centre with narrow cobbled streets where heavy trucks are restricted, and Leuven is a university city whose traffic plan limits vehicles entering its centre.
| City | Distance from Zeebrugge | Delivery note |
|---|---|---|
| Bruges | About 15 km | The historic centre is served by a small vehicle shuttling from the truck |
| Ghent | About 60 km | A student city, with a low-emission zone in its centre |
| Antwerp | About 100 km | Tall narrow houses, and a ladder lift to the window |
| Brussels | About 110 km | A parking reservation from the commune, and nineteen communes each with its own procedure |
| Leuven and its surroundings | About 135 km | Student residences, and delivery slots outside peak hours |
| Luxembourg | About 330 km | The shipment leaves under a transit document and is cleared there |
Write the address the way it is written there: the street name then the house number, then the four-digit postcode and the name of the city. State the floor and the type of building, and the language the consignee prefers for contact: Dutch in the north, French in the south, and both in Brussels. The destination is detailed on the shipping to Belgium page.
Services for individuals, companies, government bodies and embassies
One route and four kinds of customer, each measuring the service by a different yardstick. An individual wants a clear figure and someone to carry the worry. A company wants a fixed date and a tax invoice. A government body wants commitment to the date of the event. A diplomatic mission wants a procedure that preserves the status and privacy of the shipment. Jeddah has many consulates, and Brussels has embassies and international organisations, so this last kind is present on the route in both directions.
| Customer | What they need | What we provide |
|---|---|---|
| Individuals and families | Moving a home or cartons without daily follow-up | A survey, an itemised price, and one coordinator from Jeddah to the front door |
| Students and pilgrims | A few cartons at the lowest charge | Shared containers on announced dates, and collection from the residence or hotel |
| Companies and factories | Repeat shipments with disciplined paperwork | A standing contract, an account manager, and a report at every stop |
| Government bodies and universities | Exhibits, printed matter and delegations | Arrival before the exhibition date, and return of what comes back afterwards |
| Embassies and consulates | A transferred staff member’s baggage, correspondence and office furniture | Coordination with the administration, packing with its delegate present, and a file according to the consignee’s status |
Official documents leave in a sealed envelope with its own tracking number, are handed over against the signature of the named person and not the reception desk, and their charge starts from SAR 83. A transferred diplomat’s baggage needs the mission’s letter in the file.
Air freight from Jeddah to Belgium

The aircraft is for parcels and urgent spare parts, and for anything light with a near deadline. The shipment enters the cargo village at King Abdulaziz Airport, where it is weighed, measured and X-rayed, then loaded onto a direct flight when one is available, or onto a flight passing through a transit airport in the Gulf or Europe. It lands at Brussels Airport, or at Liège, one of the largest cargo airports in Europe. The door-to-door time is 3 to 6 days, with delivery to the address after clearance.
- For whom: a spare part for a stopped factory, a trader’s samples, a student’s suitcases, a pilgrim’s gifts, and an electronic or medical device shipped with its battery inside it and its report where needed.
- The calculation: the parcel is weighed and measured, its three dimensions in centimetres are multiplied and divided by 6000, and the charge falls on the higher of the two figures. You will find this in the volumetric weight calculator.
- The price: a kilogram from SAR 23, dropping as the shipment gets heavier, a small parcel not exceeding 5 kg from SAR 110, and an envelope of documents from SAR 83.
- The service: to the airport for anyone with a customs agent there, or to the address with clearance and delivery.
- What does not fly: flammable liquids, pressurised containers and loose batteries, and household furniture, whose air charge runs to several times the sea rate.
See the air freight page for the service itself, and the article air freight office in Jeddah for how a parcel is handed in at the cargo village.
Collection from Jeddah’s districts and nearby towns
Jeddah is a long strip on the coast running from Dhahban in the north to Al-Khumra in the south, and its two ends are more than seventy kilometres apart. Our crew reaches the northern districts such as Obhur, Al-Shati, Al-Zahra, Al-Mohammadiyah and Al-Naeem, the central districts such as Al-Rawdah, Al-Hamra, Al-Salamah, Al-Faisaliyah, Al-Safa and Al-Marwah, and the eastern and southern districts such as Al-Samer, Al-Hamdaniyah, Al-Aziziyah, Al-Kandarah and Al-Balad. We also collect from the towns that in practice depend on Jeddah port:
| Place | Distance from Jeddah | How we collect |
|---|---|---|
| Jeddah’s districts | Inside the city | From the door, with dismantling and packing on site |
| Makkah | About 80 km | From the home or hotel, with a small vehicle in the hillside districts |
| Thuwal | About 80 km north | From university housing with a prior entry permit |
| King Abdullah Economic City | About 100 km north | For families and factories, by prior appointment |
| Taif | About 170 km | Brought to the Jeddah warehouse the day before it is loaded into the container |
If you hand back your home in Jeddah before your Belgian address is ready, your furniture stays packed and inventoried in our warehouse until you give the word to load it. The terms are on the storage page, and the cities we cover on the service cities page.
Steps to book a shipment from Jeddah to Belgium
- The request: you send what you want to ship, your district in Jeddah, and the Belgian city and its postcode.
- Establishing your status: are you relocating, studying, a visitor posting gifts home, or trading? Your answer shapes the customs file.
- Survey and price: we estimate the volume or weight and suggest the method, and the price reaches you line by line with the time.
- Choosing the method and insurance: sea, air or both, and you decide whether to add insurance and on what value.
- Packing and inventory: dismantling, packing and numbering at your premises, and you sign the contents list.
- Export: the export declaration, then the container enters the port or the parcel the cargo village.
- Follow-up: the container or waybill number, and a message at sailing and arrival.
- Clearance and delivery: our agent clears and agrees the day with the consignee, then unloading and a signed receipt.
Following the shipment, tracking and insurance
Between Jeddah and Belgium the vessel passes one canal, one strait and four seas, and the container is lifted by at least two cranes. Tracking tells you where it has got to, and insurance protects you from what may happen on the way; they are two separate things. The first is always part of the service, and the second is your choice.
- Sea tracking: type the container number into the carrier’s site to see which port the box last left and when it is due to berth.
- Air tracking: the air waybill number shows the parcel’s status from the cargo village to delivery. The method is on the track your shipment page.
- Our notices: at sealing of the container, entry to the port, sailing, the Suez transit, berthing, customs release, and fixing the delivery day.
- Insurance: a percentage of the declared value, covering loss and damage door to door. The terms are on the cargo insurance page.
Shipping from Belgium to Jeddah
The route works in both directions. A student who has finished at Leuven comes home with books, a Saudi family ships what it bought on holiday, and a trader in Jeddah imports spare parts, machinery, chocolate and foodstuffs. Our agent collects from the Belgian address and combines purchases from several sellers into one shipment, which then sails from Antwerp or Zeebrugge to Jeddah Islamic Port, or flies to King Abdulaziz Airport.
- Used belongings: they enter the Kingdom as personal effects with a contents list and a copy of the ID or residence permit.
- Commercial goods: products that fall under Saudi technical regulations need a SABER registration and a certificate of conformity in hand before they leave Belgium.
- A car: importing one into the Kingdom has conditions on age and specifications, so ask before you buy.

Home Safe’s tips before shipping to Belgium
- Start with the Belgian address, not the furniture: measure the door and the staircase and ask about the window before deciding what ships.
- Register yourself at the commune as soon as you arrive, since every relief paper is built on that registration.
- Write in the list the name of each item, its count and its used value, and do not settle for the words “household goods”.
- Check your car’s emissions class if you will live in Antwerp, Brussels or Ghent.
- Keep a paper copy of the list and the bill of lading in your hand luggage on the day you travel.
How do you choose a shipping company from Jeddah to Belgium?
Shipping offices in Jeddah are many, and most ship to the Gulf and Egypt and know those roads well. Belgium is a different route with European rules, and someone who has not worked it gives you a low price because they do not know what awaits the shipment there. These questions reveal the difference in five minutes:
| What you ask about | A reassuring answer | A worrying answer |
|---|---|---|
| Legal standing | A commercial registration, a contract and a stamped receipt | A transfer to a personal account with no paper |
| Arrival port | Names Zeebrugge or Antwerp and explains why | “To Europe” with no port named |
| The relief | Asks how long you have lived here and about your commune registration | “Used goods pay no customs” without a single question |
| The car | Mentions conformity, registration tax and the region | Stops at the sea charge |
| Delivery | Asks about the floor, the staircase and where the truck can stop | “You collect it from the port” on arrival |
Common mistakes when shipping from Jeddah to Belgium
- The container sailing before its owner has a registered address in Belgium.
- Shipping an old car to a city with a low-emission zone without checking its class.
- Costing the car on the sea charge alone, and forgetting the duty, the tax and the registration tax.
- Putting ghee, cheese or honey that is not commercially packed among the kitchen things.
- Loading damp carpets or mattresses into a container that will stay shut for a month.
- Shipping a sofa that will not pass the staircase of the Belgian house without asking about a window lift.
- Sending Hajj purchases by air on the last day, when the sea would have done had they been handed over early.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Jeddah to Belgium
How much does shipping from Jeddah to Belgium cost?
A saloon car on a RoRo vessel out of Jeddah port starts from SAR 2,800, part-load furniture by sea from SAR 5,500, and a full-house furniture container from SAR 11,000. By air, a kilogram starts from SAR 23, a parcel of no more than 5 kg from SAR 110, and documents from SAR 83. The final figure is on 0552803439.
How many days does a shipment need from Jeddah until it reaches Belgium?
The vessel sails from Jeddah to the North Sea in 14 to 20 days. With loading, export, clearance and delivery, the time from your door to the consignee’s door becomes 25 to 35 days for a full container, 30 to 38 days for a part load, and 24 to 32 days for a car. An air parcel arrives in 3 to 6 days.
Does the container arrive at Zeebrugge or at Antwerp?
The two ports now belong to a single authority and lie about 100 km apart. Zeebrugge is the car port and has a deep-sea container quay, while Antwerp is where most container lines call. We book on the line that matches your date, whether direct or with a change of vessel at an intermediate port, and we name the arrival port to you before you pay.
Do I pay customs on my household furniture when it enters Belgium?
You do not if you are moving your normal place of residence there and meet the conditions in current practice: 12 consecutive months living outside the European Union, goods you have owned and used for 6 months, and bringing them in within 12 months of settling. Anything else is charged 21% value added tax and a duty that follows the type of item.
Can my Saudi car be shipped to Belgium and registered there?
It ships on a RoRo vessel to Zeebrugge or inside a container. Registering it goes through three stops: customs clearance ending in an electronic notice to the vehicle registration office, then a roadworthiness test and individual approval for non-European specifications, then a registration tax that differs from one region to another.
What are the charges on a car in Belgium?
Current practice is a 10% customs duty on the value of the car plus its transport to the Union border, then 21% value added tax on the total. Someone moving residence is exempt from both if the car has been theirs and in their use for six months. The regional registration tax usually stays outside this relief.
Can my car enter the cities of Antwerp, Brussels and Ghent?
These three cities have low-emission zones, where older diesel and petrol cars are banned according to their emissions class. A car with a foreign plate is registered in the zone’s system before it enters.
What is the cheapest way to ship from Jeddah to Belgium?
The sea, always. A part load for anything under 15 cubic metres, and a RoRo vessel for a car whose engine runs. Air only becomes cheaper for a handful of kilograms.
Do you ship dates and pilgrims’ gifts to Belgium?
Yes. Dates in sealed packs enter in personal quantities, and they are among the few fruits for which no plant health certificate is required under the Union rules in current practice. Prayer rugs, prayer beads, clothing and non-alcoholic perfumes are accepted. We do not ship Zamzam water as cargo; what is allowed is the traveller’s dedicated pack that flies with them.
Will my electrical appliances work in Belgium?
The voltage there is 230 volts as in the Kingdom, but the frequency is 50 hertz and the socket takes two round pins with an earth pin. So every appliance needs a plug adaptor, and anything with a motor or compressor should have its label checked: if it reads 50/60 hertz it is fine, otherwise selling it in Jeddah costs less than shipping it.
Do you deliver outside Brussels?
Yes, to Antwerp, Bruges, Leuven, Ghent, Mechelen and Hasselt in the Flemish north, and to Liège, Namur, Charleroi and Mons in the Walloon south. The country is small, and the address furthest from the port is reached by the truck in about three hours. We also deliver to Luxembourg under a transit document.
What must not go into baggage cartons bound for Belgium?
Meat, dairy, ghee and unlicensed honey, live plants and seeds without a certificate, medicines without a prescription, counterfeits, and bladed weapons and firearms.
Do you ship commercial goods and equipment from Jeddah?
Yes, by full container, by the cubic metre, or by air for samples. We collect from the industrial cities in Jeddah and from the Al-Khumra warehouses. The Belgian importer needs a European customs identification number, and some items need the European conformity mark or a safety data sheet.
Is insurance on the shipment compulsory?
It is not compulsory; it is a separate line in the offer calculated as a percentage of the value written in the contents list. We recommend it for a car and for a full-house container, because the shipping line’s liability is limited and does not reach the value of what is in the container.
Do you collect from Belgium to Jeddah?
Yes. Our agent collects from the house, the student residence or the shop in any Belgian city, and it ships by sea from Antwerp or Zeebrugge to Jeddah Islamic Port, or by air to King Abdulaziz Airport.
