Who ships from Saudi Arabia to Iraq, and what do they ship?
Five kinds of customer ship on this line, and each has a means that suits it. The two countries share a land border of more than 800 km and a direct trade crossing, so a Saudi factory now sells in the Iraqi market without a go-between in a third country. The Kingdom is also home to Iraqis who work and study, and to visitors and Umrah pilgrims who arrive overland and go back with more than they brought. This is how they divide:
| Shipper | What they ship | The fitting means |
|---|---|---|
| The Saudi factory and supplier | Food and drinks, plastics, building materials and detergents | Full truck on a regular schedule |
| The Iraqi trader buying in the Kingdom | Pallets and cartons from more than one supplier | Gathering in the warehouse, then a shared load |
| The returning Iraqi family | The home’s furniture, appliances and belongings | A private closed truck, or a shared one for a few rooms |
| The resident sending to his family | Parcels, gifts and small appliances | Regular shared load, and air for the urgent |
| The pilgrim and the visitor | Excess bags, dates and purchases | A parcel by road or air to his city |
| The contractor and the company | Equipment, spare parts and project materials | Flatbed trailer, or air for the urgent part |
Why do you need a specialist on the Saudi Arabia – Iraq line?
Because the road to Iraq is short on the map and full of detail on the ground. The shipment passes two customs houses, may be transferred between two trucks in the yard of the crossing, and then crosses the Anbar desert before it reaches the first city. For many goods Iraq also asks for an import licence and a certificate of conformity issued before loading, not after it. Whoever knows these details in advance crosses the same day, and whoever discovers them at the gate waits for days.
The nature of the shipment changes everything too. A whole home of furniture is not a trader’s cartons, and a car is not appliances or samples. So we begin by studying your shipment before pricing it: what it is, how big it is, which governorate it is going to, and when you want it. We then recommend the means that combines the lowest cost with the earliest date. On this line a specialist company gives you:
- A file review before loading: attestations, the licence and conformity are checked while the goods are still in their city.
- A broker on both sides: one completes the Saudi export declaration, and another takes over the file on the Iraqi side.
- An agent in the consignee’s city: with a name and an Iraqi number, who arranges the unloading and delivery.
- The choice of route: Arar for most shipments, and its alternatives when they serve the delivery city better.
- Packing for a desert road: that stands up to heat, dust and repeated handling.
Home Safe services for shipping from Saudi Arabia to Iraq

Shipping methods from Saudi Arabia to Iraq and how long each takes
Two methods carry most of what is shipped to Iraq: road and air. Road carries volume and weight at the lowest cost, and air carries what is light and urgent. Sea exists but is an exception, explained in its own section. The times in the table run from the day of collection to the day of delivery, clearance on both sides included:
| Method | Route | Approximate time | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full truck | Your site → Jadidat Arar → the consignee’s city | 4–8 days | A whole home, or cargo that fills a truck |
| Shared load | Consolidation warehouse → Jadidat Arar → distribution | 7–14 days | A few rooms, pallets, cartons and parcels |
| Car carrier | From the showroom or home → the crossing → the city | 5–9 days | Cars accepted in Iraq |
| Refrigerated truck | From the factory → the crossing → the importer’s warehouse | 4–7 days | Dairy, frozen goods and sensitive food |
| Air | A Saudi airport → Baghdad, Erbil, Najaf or Basra | 2–5 days | Parcels, documents and spare parts |
A truck’s journey is not driving alone. Half its days go on loading, clearance and delivery, and this is the breakdown for a full truck bound for Baghdad:
| Stage | What happens | Usual time |
|---|---|---|
| Collection and packing | Dismantling, packing, inventory and loading at your site | One day |
| The road to the crossing | Driving inside the Kingdom as far as Jadidat Arar | A day from Riyadh and the Eastern Province, two from Jeddah and Makkah |
| Saudi clearance | Export declaration and exit inspection | Hours when the declaration is lodged in advance |
| Iraqi clearance | Declaration, inspection and payment of duties, and transfer of the load if needed | One to two days |
| The road inside Iraq | From the crossing to Karbala, then Baghdad | One day |
| Delivery | Unloading, carrying in and assembly on request | On the day of arrival or the next |
What lengthens the time?
- Crossing seasons: the post receives the overland convoys of Iraqi Hajj and Umrah pilgrims, so it is crowded just before Hajj and in the Umrah seasons.
- A missing or unattested paper: the truck stands in the yard until the right paper arrives.
- Waiting for consolidation: a shared load does not move before its truck is full.
- Sampling: some foods and appliances are tested on the Iraqi side before release.
- A distant delivery city: Basra, Mosul and Erbil are a day or two beyond Baghdad.
For how long the other countries take, see the transit times page; to weigh road against air, see the shipping methods comparison page.
Shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to Iraq
The price of a shipment to Iraq is made up of four items: collection and packing, then the road haul to the crossing and beyond it, then clearance on both sides, then delivery inside the Iraqi city. It is counted by the truck when you book all of it, by the kilogram or cubic metre in a shared load, and by chargeable weight by air. These are the figures our services start from, the lowest we offer among the Kingdom’s cities, with the breakdown by city in the next section:
| What you ship | Method | Price starts from |
|---|---|---|
| A carton of personal belongings | Consolidated road freight | SAR 140 |
| A parcel or gift | Consolidated road freight | SAR 275 a parcel |
| Goods and cartons by weight | Consolidated road freight | SAR 14 a kilogram |
| A pallet of goods | Shared load | SAR 550 |
| A large electrical appliance | Road, in reinforced packing | SAR 1,100 |
| A furniture room | Shared load | SAR 2,300 |
| A kitchen with dismantling and assembly | Shared load | SAR 2,760 |
| A whole home of furniture | Dedicated truck | SAR 5,980 |
| A saloon car | Car carrier | SAR 2,300 |
| A four-wheel-drive car | Car carrier | SAR 2,760 |
| Urgent parcels and samples | Air | SAR 41 a kilogram |
| Documents | Express air | SAR 83 |
| Full commercial truck: Dyna, lorry or trailer | Direct road freight | Set on request, by truck size and the two cities |
| Refrigerated truck and heavy equipment | Specialised road freight | Set on request, by item and dimensions |
Prices in circulation in the market on the Iraq line are higher than these on most items. A kilogram in a shared load is offered at SAR 15 to 22, a bedroom at SAR 2,500 to 3,500, a kitchen with dismantling and assembly at SAR 3,000 to 3,800, a flat’s furniture at SAR 4,500 to 7,000, and a whole home in a private truck at SAR 6,500 to 11,000. A small parcel runs from SAR 250 to 650, an air kilogram from SAR 45 to 65, and a parcel by international express courier from about SAR 360 to 630. Offers for a saloon car are far apart, from SAR 1,800 to 5,500, and the difference lies in the type of carrier and in how much clearance and insurance the price takes in.
| What sets the price | Its effect |
|---|---|
| Loading city | The nearer to Arar, the lower the road haul: the north and centre are closer than the west and south |
| Delivery city | Karbala, Najaf and Baghdad are the nearest cities to the crossing; Basra, Mosul and Erbil are further |
| Full or shared | Shared costs less and waits longer |
| Weight or volume | Heavy cargo by the kilogram, light bulky cargo by the cubic metre. Work it out with the CBM calculator |
| Type of goods | Refrigerated goods, and whatever is inspected or needs a permit, cost more |
| Transfer at the crossing | A separate item when the load moves to an Iraqi truck |
| Added services | Dismantling and assembly, wooden crating, storage and insurance |
How do you lower the cost?
- Gather your purchases from suppliers in our warehouse and send them in one consignment instead of small ones.
- Choose the shared load if your shipment is under half a truck and your date is not tight.
- If your shipment is close to a Dyna load, ask for the price of a private truck and compare it with the price per kilogram.
- Avoid the weeks before Hajj and the Eids, when the crossing is crowded and demand for trucks rises.
- Complete your documents before loading, since every day of waiting at the crossing is charged to the shipment.
The pricing items are explained on the pricing factors page.
Shipping to Iraq from the Kingdom’s cities
We collect from every city in the Kingdom, and all roads meet at Arar. What differs from one city to another is the length of the road to the crossing, and whether the truck leaves your city directly or your shipment joins a truck setting off from a larger one. Riyadh and the Eastern Province go up through Hafar al-Batin and Rafha. Jeddah, Makkah and Madinah go up through Hail. Tabuk and Al-Jouf are the nearest regions after the Northern Borders itself. Here is a summary of each city, with its article where one exists:
| Collection city | Road to the crossing | Approximate distance to the crossing | Time to Baghdad by full truck | Airport for air freight | Detailed article |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Riyadh | Majmaah → Hafar al-Batin → Rafha → Arar | About 1,100 km | 4–7 days | King Khalid Airport | Shipping company from Riyadh to Iraq |
| Jeddah | Madinah → Hail → Arar | About 1,350 km | 5–8 days | King Abdulaziz Airport | Shipping from Jeddah to Iraq |
| Makkah | Via Jeddah or the Madinah road, then Hail | About 1,430 km | 5–8 days | Jeddah airport | Served with the Jeddah trips |
| Madinah | Hail → Arar | About 930 km | 4–7 days | Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz Airport | Served directly or with the Jeddah truck |
| Dammam, Khobar, Jubail and Al-Ahsa | Nairyah → Hafar al-Batin → Rafha → Arar | About 1,100 km | 4–7 days | King Fahd Airport | International shipping company in Dammam |
| Qassim: Buraidah and Unaizah | Hail → Arar | About 800 km | 4–7 days | Riyadh airport | Served directly or with the Riyadh trips |
| Hail and Hafar al-Batin | A direct road to Arar | Between 500 and 620 km | 4–6 days | Riyadh airport | On the path of the northbound trucks |
| Tabuk and Al-Jouf | Dumat al-Jandal → Sakaka → Arar | About 700 km from Tabuk, and 250 km from Sakaka | 4–6 days | Jeddah or Riyadh airport | The nearest regions after the Northern Borders |
| Arar, Rafha and Turaif | Inside the Northern Borders region | About 60 km from Arar | 3–5 days | Riyadh airport | Loaded on the day of crossing |
| Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran | To Riyadh or Jeddah, then north | About 2,000 km from Abha | 6–9 days | Jeddah or Riyadh airport | Joins the Riyadh or Jeddah truck |
From Riyadh: the Saudi city that ships most to Iraq, because it is the distribution and factory hub of the central region. A truck leaves it northwards and passes no major city before the crossing, which is why shared loads set off from it more often than from any other city. The details are in the Riyadh article named in the table, and the general service in the article International shipping company in Riyadh.
From Jeddah, Makkah and Madinah: the longest road lines to Iraq, and most of their cargo is goods that reached Jeddah port by sea or left the factories of the western region, along with the luggage of Iraqi visitors and Umrah pilgrims. A Makkah shipment is taken to Jeddah or joins the truck on the Madinah road. The Madinah truck has a shorter road than the Jeddah truck by about 420 km.
From the Eastern Province: the factories of Jubail and Dammam ship petrochemicals, plastics and building materials by full truck. The usual road runs through Hafar al-Batin to Arar. When Basra is the destination, crossing through Kuwait is considered, because it is shorter to it.
From the north, Qassim and the south: the northern cities are closer to the crossing than the rest, so their time is the shortest. Qassim ships its dates and farm produce through Hail. The southern cities have their small shipments gathered in Riyadh or Jeddah, while the large ones leave by direct truck.
Because the priced city articles on this line are what we build on, these are the starting prices by collection city:
| Collection city | Consolidated kilogram | Parcel | Furniture room | Car | Air kilogram |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jeddah | SAR 14 | SAR 275 | SAR 2,300 | SAR 3,200 | SAR 41 |
| Makkah | SAR 14 | SAR 275 | SAR 2,300 | SAR 3,200 | SAR 41 |
| Madinah | SAR 14 | SAR 275 | SAR 2,300 | SAR 3,200 | SAR 41 |
| Riyadh | SAR 14 | SAR 275 | SAR 2,300 | SAR 2,300 | SAR 41 |
| The Eastern Province, Qassim, Hail and the northern cities | SAR 14 | SAR 275 | SAR 2,300 | SAR 2,300 | SAR 41 |
The figures in the last row are taken from Riyadh because it is the nearest priced city to those regions, and Makkah and Madinah follow Jeddah. The southern cities are counted on the city whose truck their shipment joins. The final price follows the actual distance and the delivery city in Iraq. The cities we collect from are on the cities page.
Land freight from Saudi Arabia to Iraq through the Jadidat Arar crossing

Land freight is the first method on this line, and its gateway is the Jadidat Arar crossing. The post lies about 60 km north of the city of Arar, and facing it on the Iraqi side is the Arar post in Anbar governorate, near the town of Nukhayb. For decades it was reserved for the Hajj convoys, and it was then opened to trade, so a truck now enters Iraq straight from the Kingdom instead of going round through Kuwait or Jordan.
Beyond the crossing a desert road runs about 310 km to Karbala, then about 110 km on to Baghdad. The post has a trade exchange yard, radiation scanners, truck weighbridges and customs brokers on both sides. We coordinate every stage of the trip ourselves: collection, sorting, packing, recording the contents, preparing the sender’s and consignee’s details, and then securing the load inside the truck so that it does not shift on the road.
| Route | Itinerary | When it is used |
|---|---|---|
| Jadidat Arar (the main one) | Arar → the crossing → Nukhayb → Karbala → Baghdad | For most shipments, and for all the cities of the centre, the Middle Euphrates and the north |
| Through Kuwait | Khafji or Ruqai → Kuwait → Abdali → Safwan → Basra | For Basra and southern shipments leaving the Eastern Province, when the type of goods is allowed to transit |
| Through Jordan | Haditha → Al-Omari → Karama → Trebil → Ramadi | For some shipments to western Iraq, or goods gathered with a Jordan load |
The two alternative routes pass through a third country, so they carry an extra transit clearance and its fees. We therefore stay with Arar unless the delivery city or the nature of the goods favours another, and we confirm the available route before loading.
When is land freight the best choice?
- A house or flat of furniture: the truck carries all the rooms in one trip, door to door.
- Medium or large commercial cargo: pallets and cartons, by weight or by the truck.
- Appliances and equipment you are not rushing: a few days’ difference is matched by a large difference in cost.
- When you want a lower cost than air: a kilogram by road is about a third of a kilogram by air.
- When you combine more than one shipment: purchases from several suppliers in one truck.
The service is explained on the land freight page, and the crossings we work from on the ports and gateways page.
Full truck or shared load?
The rule is simple: if your shipment fills half a truck or more, book all of it, and if it is less, share it. A full truck sets off on your day and does not stop to load anyone else. A shared one divides the hire among the owners of the load, and waits until it is full. The comparison is in the table:
| Comparison | Full truck | Shared load |
|---|---|---|
| You pay for | The whole truck: Dyna, lorry or trailer | Only the weight or volume of your goods |
| Departure date | The day you set | The day the truck is full |
| Time to Baghdad | 4–8 days | 7–14 days |
| Handling | One loading at your door | Through the consolidation warehouse, then distribution in Iraq |
| Clearance | One file in your name | Follows the completion of every file on the truck |
| Best for | A whole home, or cargo of 10 tonnes and more | One or two rooms, a few pallets, and parcels |
| Price starts from | SAR 5,980 for a whole home of furniture; commercial trucks set on request | SAR 14 a kilogram |
Furniture shipping from Saudi Arabia to Iraq
Household furniture is shipped to Iraq in a closed truck, and a furniture room in a shared load starts from SAR 2,300, a kitchen with dismantling and assembly from SAR 2,760, and a whole home of furniture in a dedicated truck from SAR 5,980. Furniture is not one material: it holds wood, glass, marble, fabric, leather, electrical appliances, kitchenware, mattresses and ornaments. Each of these is damaged in a different way: wood scratches, glass breaks, fabric is soiled by road dust, and marble cracks if it is carried on its face. So we pack each piece with what suits its material.
- Bedrooms and wardrobes: their panels are dismantled and numbered, and their screws are gathered in a bag fixed to the panel itself.
- Majlis seating and sofas: wrapped in a tight plastic cover that keeps out dust, then in a blanket that prevents rubbing.
- Kitchens: the upper and lower cabinets are dismantled, and the marble worktop travels upright on its edge inside a wooden frame.
- Appliances: the moving parts of the fridge and washing machine are secured, and they are shipped standing.
- Mattresses and carpets: in sealed bags, with nothing heavy placed on top.
- In Iraq: unloading, carrying into the home and assembling what was dismantled, if you ask for the full service.
An important note before shipping furniture: glass, ornaments and small appliances do not go into an ordinary carton without dividers. Each piece is separated from the next by a protective layer, and the carton is marked with its contents and as fragile, so that the worker in the yard of the crossing and in the delivery city knows how to carry it.
An Iraqi returning for good has, under Iraqi customs law, an exemption on his used furniture and household effects, on conditions about the length of his stay abroad and the number of appliances of each kind. The conditions are interpreted at the crossing, so we review your case before loading. Electricity in Iraq is 230 volts as in the Kingdom, so your appliances work there, and some may need a plug adaptor. The details are on the furniture shipping page, and the packing methods in the packing guide.
Shipping parcels, luggage and the belongings of visitors and pilgrims
A carton of personal belongings goes to Iraq by road from SAR 140, a parcel from SAR 275, anything heavier is counted from SAR 14 a kilogram, and the urgent goes by air. Those who ask for this service most are a resident sending gifts to his family in Baghdad or Najaf, an Iraqi pilgrim whose luggage has outgrown the allowance of the coach or the plane, and the owner of an online shop with customers in Iraq.
- Collection: from your home or hotel, and from the hotels near the Two Holy Mosques for visitors’ luggage.
- What is sent: clothes, gifts, dates, household items, small appliances and books.
- What is not sent: Zamzam water is not shipped, as its export is limited to the dedicated pack the traveller carries.
- Food: dry or tinned and within its date, and nothing perishable in a road parcel.
- Consignee details: his name as on his ID, his governorate and district, and an Iraqi phone number he answers.
- Declaration: the type, number and approximate value of each item on a sheet that travels with the parcel.
The details are on the parcel shipping page.
Shipping commercial goods from Saudi Arabia to Iraq
Iraq is a major overland export market for Saudi factories, and food and building materials are what cross to it most. A product of Saudi origin benefits from the exemptions of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area whenever a valid certificate of origin goes with it. We load straight from the factory or warehouse, and review the file before the truck moves. These are the busiest categories:
| Category | Shipping method | What it needs |
|---|---|---|
| Food and drinks | Closed truck, or refrigerated for dairy and frozen goods | Health certificate, enough shelf life and an Arabic label |
| Dates | Cartons on pallets in a closed or refrigerated truck | Certificate of origin and phytosanitary certificate |
| Building materials: cement, steel, ceramics and insulation | Flatbed or sided trailer | Weight distribution and lashing, and a certificate of conformity for some |
| Plastics, packaging materials and petrochemicals | Full truck from the factory | Attested invoice, and a safety data sheet for chemicals |
| Detergents and paper products | Wrapped pallets | Certificate of conformity before shipping |
| Electrical appliances | Closed truck in factory packing | Certificate of conformity and an invoice listing the models |
| Spare parts and equipment | Road for quantities, and air for the urgent part | Part numbers on the invoice |
For a regular supplier we fix a weekly loading day and a price agreed for a period. Online shop orders are gathered as parcels and move with the regular shared load. The details are on the commercial shipping page, and equipment on the heavy equipment shipping page.
Car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Iraq

A car is moved to Iraq by road on an open carrier or inside a closed truck, and the transport starts from SAR 2,300 for a saloon car and from SAR 2,760 for a four-wheel-drive. Preparing it differs from preparing furniture and parcels, because its documents, condition, type, year of manufacture and final destination all enter the decision. No car leaves the Kingdom before two things: an export certificate from the traffic department, and confirmation that it is accepted in Iraq.
| Method | How it works | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Open carrier | The car is strapped by its wheels on a carrier that takes several cars | Ordinary cars; the lowest cost |
| Closed truck | The car sits inside a closed body, secured with straps and chocks | Luxury and new cars, and anything you fear dust and gravel for |
| Recovery truck to the gathering point | Takes the car from your home or the showroom to the carrier | Cities the carrier does not pass through |
Before handover: take your personal belongings out of the cabin and the boot, photograph the car from all four sides and inside, check the tyre pressure, and leave a quarter of a tank or less. We write a signed condition report with you, and tell you the place and time of collection and delivery before any procedure begins.
Car import conditions in Iraq and the documents
Make sure the car is accepted in Iraq before you pay for it or cancel its plates. The Iraqi authorities have tightened import controls in recent years: a limit on the year of manufacture, a ban on anything that has been burnt, flooded or badly damaged in an accident, and a requirement to match the Iraqi technical specification for cars. The Kurdistan Region has controls of its own. These rules have changed more than once, so we do not book a car before confirming what applies in the week of the request.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Year of manufacture | Iraq accepts recent models within a limit that is announced and amended. We confirm the limit in force for your car before booking |
| Condition of the car | Burnt, flooded and badly accident-damaged cars do not enter |
| Specification | Compliance with the Iraqi technical requirements on safety and fuel efficiency, and left-hand drive |
| Registration | The original registration in the sender’s name, or a notarised sale contract |
| Export certificate | Issued by the traffic department after fines are paid and the Saudi plates cancelled |
| ID of both parties | The sender’s ID or residence permit, and the Iraqi consignee’s passport and address |
| Purchase invoice | For a recently bought car; customs assess the value on it |
| Iraqi duties | Paid by the consignee, following the type and value of the car. We give him an estimate before shipping |
Anyone who wants to enter Iraq in his Saudi car as a visitor and then drive it back is in a different position from shipping: that is a temporary admission with its own papers, among them the customs carnet when it is asked for. The explanation is on the triptik page, and the ways of moving cars on the car shipping page and in the article Car shipping from Saudi Arabia.
Customs clearance and the documents required for shipping to Iraq
The documents follow the type of shipment: personal belongings need only the details of both parties and a list of contents, commercial goods need attested invoices and certificates, and cars and equipment have extra papers. Clearance happens twice: an export declaration on the Saudi side, lodged electronically under the sender’s authorisation, then a declaration, inspection and payment of duties on the Iraqi side. We review the whole file while the shipment is still in its city.
| Type of shipment | Documents | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Furniture and personal effects | The sender’s ID, the consignee’s passport, a detailed list of contents and an authorisation for the broker | A final returnee adds the final exit visa and proof of his previous residence |
| Parcels and gifts | Full details of both parties, and a description of the contents and their value | In personal-use quantities |
| Commercial goods | Attested commercial invoice and certificate of origin, packing list and export declaration | The invoice at the true value, with the tariff code for each item |
| Goods subject to inspection | A certificate of conformity from an inspection body approved by the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control | Obtained before loading, not at the crossing |
| Restricted goods | An import licence in the Iraqi importer’s name | The importer makes sure of it before the invoice is issued |
| Food and farm produce | Health certificate or phytosanitary certificate | And enough shelf life on arrival |
| Fragile or valuable pieces | Photos and a description of each piece | They go with the list of contents and are relied on for insurance |
| Cars | Registration, export certificate and the ID of both parties | After the import conditions are confirmed |
Iraqi customs are moving towards the electronic declaration and advance notice of goods before they arrive, and the details of its application keep changing. So for every commercial shipment we take the list of requirements from our broker in Iraq before it is loaded, and confirm what is in force before shipping. Customs duties in Iraq are paid by the consignee. The papers are explained on the shipping documents page, and the procedures on the customs clearance page.
What cannot be shipped to Iraq, or needs a permit
There are three groups: the banned, which no paper will ship; the restricted, which enters with a permit; and the allowed on a condition. The ruling follows the regulations of both countries together: what the Kingdom bars from export does not leave, and what Iraq bars from import does not enter. One offending item in a shared truck stops all of it, so ask about anything you doubt before you pack it.
| Item | Ruling |
|---|---|
| Drugs, weapons, ammunition and explosives | Strictly banned |
| Counterfeit goods and items contrary to public morals | Banned |
| Flammable materials and compressed gases | Not loaded with furniture and parcels; shipped commercially under licence |
| Medicines and medical supplies | With a health permit, or a personal quantity with a prescription |
| Wireless devices and drones | With a prior permit |
| Chemicals and wet batteries | With a permit, special packing and a safety data sheet |
| Perfumes and liquids in large quantities | Restricted, and by air only on the carrier’s conditions |
| Some crops and food products | Their import is suspended in certain seasons to protect Iraqi local produce |
| Cash, gold and official documents | Not shipped; the owner carries and declares them |
| Zamzam water | Not shipped |
The general list is on the prohibited items page.
Delivery in Baghdad, Basra, Erbil and the other governorates

We deliver in every Iraqi governorate, and the nearest to the crossing are Karbala and Najaf, then Baghdad. The truck comes out of the western desert to Karbala first, and from there the roads branch: north to Baghdad, then Mosul, Kirkuk and Erbil, and south to Hillah, Diwaniyah, Nasiriyah and Basra. Furniture is unloaded, carried into the home and assembled, and goods are handed over at the importer’s warehouse or shop.
| City or governorate | Road from the crossing | Added to the Baghdad time |
|---|---|---|
| Karbala | About 310 km, the first city after Nukhayb | Half a day less |
| Najaf and Kufa | About 390 km through Karbala | Same as Baghdad |
| Baghdad | About 420 km through Karbala | It is the baseline |
| Babil (Hillah) and Wasit (Kut) | East from Karbala | Half a day |
| Qadisiyah (Diwaniyah) and Muthanna (Samawah) | South from Najaf | A day |
| Dhi Qar (Nasiriyah) and Maysan (Amarah) | On the southern road | A day |
| Basra | About 800 km south, or through Kuwait and Safwan | One to two days |
| Anbar (Ramadi and Fallujah), Salah ad-Din and Diyala | West, north and east from Baghdad | A day |
| Mosul and Kirkuk | North from Baghdad | One to two days |
| Erbil, Sulaymaniyah and Duhok | North from Baghdad, or by air to Erbil | One to two days, plus the Region’s procedures |
The Kurdistan Region has its own customs administration, and goods entering it from the rest of Iraq pass internal points with their own papers. So an Erbil shipment is not treated as a Baghdad shipment with the road extended; we arrange it on the Region’s route from the start. A visitor sending to Najaf or Karbala in the pilgrimage seasons has to allow for some streets being closed to trucks, so we deliver to him at the hours when entry is permitted.
Serving individuals, companies and official bodies
The service is the same at its core, and its arrangement changes with whoever asks for it. An individual needs someone to explain the steps and pack in his home. A company needs a fixed schedule, a tax invoice and one person to speak to. An official body needs a file that documents every piece. This is what we arrange for each group:
| Customer | What they need | What we provide |
|---|---|---|
| Individuals and families | Moving a home or sending parcels without complication | A survey by photos, packing at home, an itemised price and delivery to the room |
| Companies and factories | Regular exports on set dates | Weekly scheduling, document review, a tax invoice and a report on every trip |
| Online shops | Delivering scattered orders to customers in Iraq | Gathering the parcels, shipping them regularly and distributing them to the addresses |
| Contractors | Equipment and materials for a project in Iraq | Flatbed and low-bed trailers, and a study of dimensions and weight |
| Official bodies and missions | Moving office furniture or staff belongings | A documented inventory, tight packing and formal correspondence |
Sea freight to Iraq: when is it used?
Sea freight to Iraq is a limited option that suits heavy commercial cargo bound for the south. The container sails from King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam to Umm Qasr port near Basra, inside the Arabian Gulf. From Jeddah port, though, the ship has to sail round the whole Arabian Peninsula to reach the Gulf, which lengthens the voyage to no purpose. And because the two countries share a direct road, the truck remains shorter in time and lighter in handling for furniture, parcels and most goods. If your cargo is raw materials or equipment in container loads for Basra, ask us about the sea option. The service is on the sea freight page.
Air freight from Saudi Arabia to Iraq

Air freight gets a parcel to Iraq in 2 to 5 days, starting from SAR 41 a kilogram and from SAR 83 for documents. It is the choice of anyone for whom time matters more than cost: a small parcel, a document, a trade sample, or a spare part a machine is waiting on. There are direct flights between the Kingdom and Baghdad, Erbil and Najaf, the flying time is about two hours, and the remaining days go on clearance and delivery.
| Arrival airport | Serves | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Baghdad International | Baghdad, Anbar, Diyala, Salah ad-Din and Wasit | The airport with the most flights |
| Erbil International | Erbil, Duhok, Mosul and Kirkuk | Enters the Region directly, with no road leg from Baghdad |
| Najaf International | Najaf, Karbala, Babil and Qadisiyah | Its flights multiply in the pilgrimage seasons |
| Basra International | Basra, Dhi Qar and Maysan | For the south, usually on a connecting flight |
| Sulaymaniyah International | Sulaymaniyah and Halabja | Depending on flight availability |
We ship by air from King Khalid Airport in Riyadh, King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah, King Fahd Airport in Dammam, and from Madinah airport when a suitable flight is available. We assess the shipment before recommending air for it: its dimensions, weight and contents. The price is on chargeable weight, the greater of actual and volumetric weight, which you can work out with the volumetric weight calculator. Some materials are restricted on aircraft, such as batteries, perfumes, liquids and magnets. The service is explained on the air freight page.
Packing and securing for the Arar road
Packing on this line is reckoned for three things: the heat of the desert, its dust, and repeated handling. The truck covers hundreds of kilometres of open country, and the load may be set down and lifted in the yard of the crossing and again in the distribution city. What is enough for a move within a city is not enough here.
- For dust: full plastic wrapping for fabric, mattresses and appliances, and carton openings sealed with wide tape.
- For heat: candles, cosmetics, chocolate and medicines are not loaded in an ordinary truck in summer, but in a refrigerated one.
- For handling: commercial goods on strapped pallets are lifted by forklift once, instead of cartons thrown by hand.
- For vibration: tension straps and wooden partitions between the rows of the load, with the heavy items on the truck floor.
- For identification: every piece carries the consignee’s name, his governorate and its number on the list, in clear Arabic lettering.
How a load is secured is on the packing and lashing page.
Consolidation and temporary storage before shipping
We store the shipment in our warehouse until it is complete or its date comes, and it then leaves in one go. This is needed by an Iraqi trader buying from five suppliers in three cities, by a family that has handed back its flat before its home in Iraq is ready, and by a pilgrim who shops over several days and then travels. Every piece is logged as it comes in, photographed, and added to a single list in its owner’s name. When it is complete we weigh it again and give you the final price before loading. The service is on the storage page.
Steps for shipping from Saudi Arabia to Iraq
Eight steps from the first message to the signature on delivery. The first four are in the Kingdom, and the last four lie between the crossing and the consignee’s door:
- Sending the details: your city, the type of shipment, its approximate weight or volume or photos of it, and the Iraqi governorate it is bound for.
- Assessing the shipment: we recommend road or air, a full or shared truck, and send the itemised price and the expected time.
- Reviewing the documents: we match your papers against what the Iraqi side asks for your type of shipment, before the loading day is fixed.
- Packing and preparation: our team dismantles, packs, sorts the cartons, writes the list of contents and fixes the consignee’s details on every piece.
- Loading and the road: the load is secured and the door locked, and the truck heads north to Arar.
- The crossing: the Saudi export declaration, then the declaration, inspection and duties on the Iraqi side.
- Transport inside Iraq: from the crossing to the consignee’s city, with our agent calling him a day before arrival.
- Delivery: unloading and checking against the list piece by piece, then the consignee’s signature.
Tracking and insuring the shipment
You follow your shipment through five fixed messages: at loading, on reaching Arar, after leaving the Saudi side, after the Iraqi release, and a day before delivery. Each message comes with a photo or a reference number. Insurance is optional and is calculated as a percentage of the declared value, and we consider it necessary for appliances, cars and any shipment worth many times its freight.
- What is documented: photos of the load before the truck is locked, and photos at the transfer in the yard of the crossing if one takes place.
- What insurance covers: loss and damage in transit under the terms of the policy, on the value written in the list.
- What it does not cover: anything not mentioned in the list of contents, and whatever the owner packed weakly himself.
- The Home Safe guarantee: furniture safe from breakage and scratching in what our team packs and loads.
The details are on the shipment tracking and cargo insurance pages.
Shipping from Iraq to Saudi Arabia
The line works in the opposite direction as well. Our agent takes in the shipment in Baghdad, Basra, Najaf, Karbala or Erbil, it crosses at the same post, and we clear it on the Saudi side and deliver it to your city. What comes from Iraq most is the belongings of families moving to work in the Kingdom, students’ effects and commercial goods. Imports into the Kingdom fall under the regulations of the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, and some items need a Saudi certificate of conformity, so send us a description of the shipment and the Iraqi city on 0552803439 before you prepare it.
Tips before shipping from Saudi Arabia to Iraq
- Write a list of your shipment’s contents before the team arrives, and go through it with them at collection.
- Do not put liquids or heat-sensitive materials among the furniture and appliances.
- Gather small pieces in tight cartons, and write on each carton what is in it and the name of the room.
- Photograph the furniture and the car before handover, and keep the photos until you take delivery in Iraq.
- Ask about the time for your city and your method specifically, not a general time.
- Check the consignee’s full name, address and Iraqi number before the truck moves.
- Agree with the consignee on who pays the duties in Iraq, and what they are estimated at, before shipping.
- If your shipment is for the Kurdistan Region, say so in the first message.
How do you choose a shipping company from Saudi Arabia to Iraq?
Price alone is not enough to judge by. A cheap offer without organisation ends in delay, damage or a shipment you cannot locate. Five questions are enough to tell a company that works on the line from one that is trying its luck on it:
| What you ask about | A reassuring sign | A warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| Legal standing | A commercial registration, a known office and an official invoice | A mobile number and a personal account |
| Scope of the price | To the consignee’s door, with an item for clearance and one for the transfer | “The price is to the border and the rest is on you” |
| Documents | Asks for them and reviews them before fixing the loading day | “Load now and the papers get sorted at the crossing” |
| The Iraqi side | An agent with a name and number in the consignee’s governorate | “The driver will handle it” |
| Documentation | A signed list, photos and follow-up messages | A verbal promise with no paper |
| Time | A realistic range that mentions clearance and consolidation | “Three days to any city” |
Common mistakes when shipping from Saudi Arabia to Iraq
- Loading commercial goods before the certificate of conformity is issued, thinking it can be obtained at the crossing.
- Cancelling the car’s plates before making sure its year of manufacture is accepted in Iraq.
- Writing “personal belongings” on a shipment holding new appliances in quantity, so it is treated as goods and fined.
- Light household packing for a shipment that will cross the desert and be handled twice.
- Sending an Erbil shipment on the Baghdad route without arranging the Region’s papers.
- Recording a Saudi phone number for the consignee, so the agent in Iraq cannot reach him.
- Comparing two offers, one to the crossing and the other to the door, as if they were the same service.

Summary
Shipping from Saudi Arabia to Iraq is essentially by road: a closed truck through the Jadidat Arar crossing reaches Baghdad in 4 to 8 days and carries on to Basra, Erbil and Mosul in a day or two. Air is for parcels and whatever cannot wait. The success of a shipment rests on three things settled before loading: complete documents, packing that stands up to the road, and an agent waiting for it in the consignee’s city. Send the details of your shipment, your city and the Iraqi governorate with photos or a description of the contents, and we will reply with the means, the price and the time.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Saudi Arabia to Iraq
How much does shipping from Saudi Arabia to Iraq cost?
The figure follows the item and the method. A kilogram of goods on a shared truck starts from SAR 14, a single parcel from SAR 275, a furniture room from SAR 2,300, and moving a saloon car from SAR 2,300. Air freight is from SAR 41 a kilogram and urgent documents from SAR 83. A whole home of furniture in a dedicated truck is from SAR 5,980, while a commercial truck is priced on request, by its size and the loading and delivery cities. To ask: 0552803439.
How long does a shipment take from Saudi Arabia to Iraq?
A full truck reaches Baghdad in 4 to 8 days door to door: the shorter end from Riyadh, the Eastern Province and the north, the longer end from Jeddah, Makkah and the south. A shared load needs 7 to 14 days because it waits for the truck to fill. Air freight takes 2 to 5 days.
Which border crossing does the truck use to enter Iraq?
Jadidat Arar in the Northern Borders region, the only direct land crossing for goods between the two countries, facing the Arar post in Anbar governorate. In specific cases a Basra shipment goes through Kuwait and the Safwan post, and a shipment for western Iraq through Jordan and the Trebil post.
What is the best way to ship a whole home of furniture to Iraq?
A closed road truck booked for you alone. It is loaded at your home in the Kingdom, its door is locked after the inventory, and it sets off on the day you choose. For one or two rooms the shared load is cheaper, starting from SAR 2,300 a room.
Can I ship my car from Saudi Arabia to Iraq?
The answer depends on the car itself. Iraq limits the accepted year of manufacture, turns away a car that has been burnt, flooded or badly damaged in an accident, and requires it to match the Iraqi specification. These conditions have been amended more than once, so we ask for the year of manufacture and a photo of the registration first, and confirm what applies before any booking. The transport itself starts from SAR 2,300 for a saloon car.
What documents are needed to ship personal belongings to Iraq?
A copy of the sender’s ID or residence permit, a copy of the consignee’s passport or unified national card, a detailed list of contents with the number of pieces and cartons, and an electronic authorisation for the broker in the Kingdom. An Iraqi returning for good adds proof of his previous residence and its end, such as the final exit visa.
What documents are needed for commercial goods?
A commercial invoice and a certificate of origin, both attested by the chamber of commerce, a packing list and a Saudi export declaration. The Iraqi importer needs an import licence for many goods, a certificate of conformity issued before shipping for products subject to inspection, and a health certificate for foodstuffs.
Is the cargo moved from one truck to another at the border?
It happens on some trips. Jadidat Arar has a trade exchange yard where the load is transferred between a Saudi truck and an Iraqi one when the arrangement of the trip calls for it. That is why we pack the shipment on the assumption that it will be lifted and set down more than once, and document the transfer with photos.
Do you deliver in Erbil, Sulaymaniyah and Duhok?
Yes. A shipment for the Kurdistan Region arrives by road north from Baghdad, or by air straight into Erbil airport. The Region has its own customs procedures and internal checkpoints, so we settle the route and the documents by city before the booking, not after it.
Do you collect from any city in the Kingdom?
Yes: from Riyadh, Jeddah, Makkah, Madinah, Dammam, Khobar, Jubail, Al-Ahsa, Hafar al-Batin, Qassim, Hail, Tabuk, Al-Jouf, Arar, Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, Najran and Taif. A small shipment is gathered at the nearest warehouse and then joins the Iraq truck, and a large one is loaded straight from where it stands.
Is air freight to Iraq available for furniture?
Available in theory and costly in practice. Air is charged on volumetric weight, and a piece of furniture is large in volume and light in weight, so you pay for its empty space. We use it for parcels, documents, spare parts and samples, starting from SAR 41 a kilogram, and leave furniture to the truck.
Does a returning Iraqi get a customs exemption on his furniture?
Iraqi customs law exempts the used furniture and household effects of a returnee, on conditions concerning how long he lived abroad and that the items are used and in the quantities of one household. Application varies from time to time, so we review your case and papers with the broker in Iraq before we load.
Do you ship dates and foodstuffs to Iraq?
Yes, and they are among the goods that cross the post most often. Dry and tinned foods travel in closed trucks, and dairy and frozen goods in refrigerated trucks whose temperature is logged all the way. They need a health certificate, a certificate of origin and enough shelf life on arrival.
Can I ship by sea from Saudi Arabia to Iraq?
You can, but it is not the usual choice. Containers sail from King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam to Umm Qasr port near Basra, which suits heavy commercial cargo bound for southern Iraq. For furniture and parcels the road truck is a shorter route with less handling.
Do you ship from Iraq to Saudi Arabia?
Yes. Our agent takes in the shipment in Baghdad, Basra, Najaf, Karbala or Erbil, it crosses at the same post, and we then clear it on the Saudi side and deliver it to your address in any city of the Kingdom.
