Who ships from Riyadh to Iraq, and what do they ship?
The Riyadh–Iraq line is a trade route before it is a relocation route. Most trucks leaving on it carry the output of the capital’s factories and its traders’ warehouses: food and drink, plastics, building materials and detergents. After them come Iraqis living in Riyadh who send things to their families or return with their furniture, then online shop owners, then people who want a car delivered. This is what suits each of them:
| Shipper | What they ship | Best method |
|---|---|---|
| A factory or supplier in Riyadh | Food, building materials, plastics and detergents | A full trailer or Dyna truck on a regular schedule |
| A trader with limited quantities | Pallets, cartons and spare parts | Shared load by the pallet or the kilogram |
| A returning Iraqi family | A full household and its appliances | A dedicated truck that leaves on its own day |
| A resident sending to family | Cartons, gifts and small appliances | By the carton or the parcel, by land |
| An online shop owner | Customer orders in Baghdad and Basra | Regular shared loads, with urgent items by air |
| A car owner | A car that meets the import controls | Car carrier |
Shipping services from Riyadh to Iraq
We do not sell one method to every customer. We first ask about the shipment: what it is, how large, when it must arrive, and which governorate it is going to. Then we recommend the service that combines the time you need with a cost you accept. These are our services on this line and what each one covers:
| Service | What it covers | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Land freight | Furniture, appliances, cartons, equipment and medium to large consignments | Land freight |
| Air freight | Fast parcels, documents, samples and urgent shipments | Air freight |
| Furniture shipping | Bedrooms, sitting rooms, kitchens, mattresses, glass and ornaments | Furniture shipping |
| Car shipping | Moving the vehicle on a carrier, with its papers reviewed | Car shipping |
| Parcel shipping | Cartons, suitcases, gifts and online shop orders | Parcel shipping |
| Commercial goods | Pallets, full loads and refrigerated loads with their documents | Commercial shipping |
| Packing and temporary storage | Preparing the shipment and holding it until its departure date | Storage |
Route and transit time from Riyadh to Iraq
The truck leaves Riyadh from its northern side on the Qassim road, then turns at Majmaah towards Artawiyah and Hafar al-Batin, close to 490 km. From Hafar al-Batin it follows the international road that runs along the border to Rafha and then Arar, about another 570 km. After Arar some 60 km remain to the Jadidat Arar crossing. On the Iraqi side the road passes Nukhayb in the Anbar desert, then reaches Karbala, and from there Baghdad.
| Stage | Approximate distance | Usual time |
|---|---|---|
| Packing, loading and inventory in Riyadh | — | Half a day to a day |
| Riyadh → Hafar al-Batin | About 490 km via Majmaah and Artawiyah | 5–6 hours |
| Hafar al-Batin → Rafha → Arar | About 570 km | 6–7 hours |
| Arar → Jadidat Arar crossing | About 60 km | An hour, then export clearance |
| Clearance on the Iraqi side | — | One to 3 days depending on the goods |
| Crossing → Karbala | About 310 km via Nukhayb | 4–5 hours |
| Karbala → Baghdad | About 110 km | Two hours |
| Method | Door-to-door time | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Full truck | 4–7 days | Commercial goods and a full household |
| Shared load | 7–12 days | A room, a few pallets and cartons |
| Car carrier | 5–8 days | Cars |
| Refrigerated truck | 4–6 days | Food and dairy |
| Air from King Khalid Airport | 2–4 days | Documents, parcels and samples |
What lengthens the time?
- Pilgrimage and Hajj seasons: the crossing fills with coaches of Iraqi visitors and pilgrims, so the truck queue grows.
- A missing or uncertified paper: the truck waits at the crossing until it is completed, which is why we ask for the papers before loading.
- Sampling: food and appliances may be tested on the Iraqi side before release.
- Moving the load between two trucks: when required in the yard of the crossing, it takes half a day to a day.
- A distant governorate: Basra, Mosul and the cities of the Region add a day or two to the Baghdad time.
Times for every destination are on the transit times page.
The Jadidat Arar crossing: one direct border

Between Riyadh and Iraq there is one border, crossed once, and that is what sets this line apart from the Levant lines where a truck crosses two or three countries. The post on the Saudi side is called Jadidat Arar, about 60 km from the city of Arar, capital of the Northern Borders region, and it faces the Iraqi Arar post in Anbar governorate. Truck traffic through it rises year after year as trade between the two countries grows.
Our work at the crossing begins before the truck reaches it. The export declaration is prepared electronically while the truck is still on the road, and the broker on the Iraqi side receives a copy of the documents in advance. On some trips the load is moved in the yard of the crossing to an Iraqi truck that completes the road, and on others the same truck continues; we tell you what will happen to your shipment before loading day.
- The alternative route to Basra: through Kuwait and the Safwan post, when it is shorter for cargo bound for the far south.
- The Jordan route: the Trebil post serves western Iraq, and from Riyadh we turn to it only for a reason in the goods or their destination.
- The default: Arar is our standard route from Riyadh, because it is the shortest and involves one clearance.
An introduction to all the land posts is on the ports and gateways page.
Shipping prices from Riyadh to Iraq
Three units are used to price this line. The truck when you take all of it, the kilogram or the pallet when you share one load with others, and the chargeable kilogram in air freight. The figures below are the starting point for each item, from your location in Riyadh to the address in Baghdad or Karbala, and they rise slightly for the more distant governorates:
| What you ship | Method | Price starts from |
|---|---|---|
| Carton of personal effects | Shared land load | SAR 140 |
| Parcel or gift | Shared land load | SAR 275 |
| Goods and cartons by weight | Shared land load | SAR 14 per kilogram |
| Parcels up to 50 kg | Shared land load | SAR 415 |
| Large electrical appliance | Land, with reinforced packing | SAR 1,100 |
| Complete bedroom | Shared load | SAR 2,300 |
| Kitchen with dismantling and assembly | Shared load | SAR 2,760 |
| Full household | Dedicated truck | SAR 5,980 |
| Pallet of goods | Shared load | SAR 550 |
| Saloon car | Car carrier | SAR 2,300 |
| 4×4 | Car carrier | SAR 2,760 |
| Small truck or pickup | Dedicated carrier | SAR 3,220 |
| Air freight | From King Khalid Airport | SAR 41 per kilogram |
| Documents | Express | SAR 83 |
| Dyna truck or trailer for commercial goods | Full load | Set on request, by load and governorate |
Prices quoted in the market for this line: a carton at around SAR 150, part loads between SAR 15 and 22 per kilogram, parcels up to 50 kg between SAR 450 and 650, and a pallet from SAR 600. A bedroom runs between SAR 2,500 and 3,500, a kitchen with assembly between SAR 3,000 and 3,800, a large electrical appliance between SAR 1,200 and 1,800, and a full household between SAR 6,500 and 11,000. A saloon car is between SAR 2,500 and 3,000, reaching SAR 3,500 to 5,500 in other offers, and a 4×4 between SAR 3,000 and 3,500. Air is between SAR 45 and 65 per kilogram. Measure any figure you are offered against these limits, and ask whether it includes clearance and delivery inside the city.
| What sets the price | Its effect |
|---|---|
| Weight or volume | Heavy cargo is charged by the kilogram, and light bulky cargo by the cubic metre. Work it out with the CBM calculator |
| Full or shared | In a shared load you pay for your share only; a full truck leaves on your date |
| The Iraqi governorate | Karbala, Baghdad and Najaf are nearer the crossing; Basra, Mosul and Erbil are further |
| Type of goods | Anything needing refrigeration, testing or a certificate of conformity costs more |
| Handling at the crossing | A separate line when the load is moved to an Iraqi truck |
| Dismantling, packing and assembly | Written into the offer line by line before you agree |
How do you lower the cost?
- Choose a shared load as long as your shipment is less than half a truck and your date can bear an extra week.
- Put the goods on wrapped pallets; a ready pallet is cheaper to handle than loose cartons.
- Gather your Iraqi customers’ orders into one consignment every two weeks instead of scattered parcels.
- Finish certifying the invoice and certificate of origin before loading; a day of the truck waiting at the crossing is charged to you.
- Leave heavy, low-value furniture in Riyadh; moving it costs close to the price of its replacement in Baghdad.
The remaining factors are explained on the pricing factors page.
Land freight from Riyadh to Iraq: full truck or shared load?
Land freight is the dominant request on this line, because it takes the heavy and the plentiful and allows separate pieces to be gathered into one trip. The practical question is not “land or not” but “a truck to myself or a place in a truck”. The first leaves on the day you want, is sealed at your location and is opened only at customs. The second waits until it fills, and you pay in it for the space your goods occupy.
| Comparison | Full truck | Shared load |
|---|---|---|
| Time | 4–7 days | 7–12 days |
| Departure | The day you choose | When the trip is full |
| Charging | By the truck and its size | By the kilogram, pallet or piece |
| Handling | Usually one loading and one unloading | Sorted in the warehouse, then distributed to addresses |
| Best for | From 10 tonnes, or a home of three rooms or more | A room, a few pallets, or cartons |
When do you choose land freight?
- When you are moving the furniture of a flat or villa from Riyadh to an Iraqi city.
- When you are supplying commercial goods in a medium or large quantity.
- When you are shipping electrical appliances or equipment that a few days’ wait will not harm.
- When the difference in cost from air matters more to you than the difference in days.
- When your shipment is many cartons or several pieces that need arranging and securing.
A wider comparison of the methods is on the shipping methods comparison page.
What sets shipping from Riyadh to Iraq apart
Riyadh is the nearest of the Kingdom’s large cities to the Arar crossing after the northern towns, and it is the biggest source of goods bound for it. That is why more consolidation trips leave from it than from any other city, so shared loads do not wait long. It has an airport that serves air freight directly, and industrial cities and warehouses we collect from throughout the week. On the other hand, the capital has arrangements for truck movement and tall buildings that we plan for:
| Particular | Its effect | How we deal with it |
|---|---|---|
| Regulated entry of large trucks | They do not enter districts at peak times | We set the loading hour in advance and confirm the hours in force the day before |
| Towers and gated compounds | An exit permit for furniture and a booking for the service lift | We coordinate with the building management before the crew arrives |
| Industrial cities and warehouses | Goods ready on pallets for a forklift | Direct loading from the factory dock or from our warehouse |
| A long, dry northern road | Heat, dust and stretches with few services | A closed truck with strap lashing, and a refrigerated one for heat-sensitive cargo |
| No seaport in Riyadh | Sea freight begins with a train or truck to Dammam | Land is the default to Iraq, and sea is for heavy commercial cargo |
Our work in the capital is set out in the article international shipping company in Riyadh.
Furniture shipping from Riyadh to Iraq

One home holds wood, glass, marble, fabric, leather, appliances, mattresses, curtains and ornaments, and each material has something that harms it. Wood is scratched by rubbing, glass is broken by pressure, fabric is spoiled by dust, and appliances are damaged by jolts. So we do not pack a home in one way. The crew sorts the pieces in your home first, then dismantles what comes apart, gives each piece its own protection, and arranges the load so the heavy goes at the bottom and the delicate sits where nothing presses on it.
| Item | How it is protected |
|---|---|
| Bedrooms and wardrobes | Dismantled with panels numbered, wrapped in blankets and then stretch film |
| Glass, mirrors and marble tops | Wooden frames and reinforced cardboard corners, loaded upright |
| Sitting rooms and sofas | A fabric cover, then thick polythene that keeps dust out |
| Screens and delicate devices | The original box if available, or a crate with foam cut to size |
| Fridge, washing machine and air conditioner | Emptied and dried, moving parts secured, loaded upright |
| Kitchen | Cabinets dismantled and numbered, and cookware packed in cartons with dividers |
| Ornaments and chandeliers | Padded wooden crates and a “fragile” label |
Each carton has a number and a description written in the contents list. This list is not only a paper for organisation; it is what the customs officer reads at the crossing, and what you check your belongings against on delivery. The more detailed it is, the less opening and inspection there is. A returnee’s used furniture is treated in Iraq as personal effects and may be charged duty as a percentage of its value, so we ask about current practice before shipping and tell you.
An important note when shipping household goods: do not put glass, screens or ornaments in one carton with heavy tools, even if space is left in the carton. Separate everything breakable, wrap it in clear layers, and write “fragile” on two sides. The shipment may be handled more than once before it arrives, and the worker in the yard of the crossing knows what is in the carton only from what is written on it. All packing methods are in the packing guide.
Shipping parcels, cartons and suitcases
Not everyone who ships to Iraq has a household or a factory. Many send a carton of clothes to a brother in Najaf, gifts to a family in Basra, or a suitcase left behind by a relative who visited Riyadh. These small shipments join the shared load that leaves our warehouse on a regular schedule, and each parcel is charged on its own. An online shop benefits from the same method: we gather its customers’ orders into one consignment and distribute them in Iraq to their addresses.
- Price: a carton starts from SAR 140, a parcel from SAR 275, up to 50 kg from SAR 415, and anything above from SAR 14 per kilogram.
- What is usually sent: clothes, shoes, household items, toys, small appliances, books and rugs.
- Food and dates: tinned and dry food within its shelf life, in personal quantities. Dates are a local product in Iraq, so their entry in commercial quantities may be restricted, and we check before accepting them.
- Suitcases: locked, wrapped in polythene, and tagged with the consignee’s name and city.
- Consignee details: the name as on the ID, an Iraqi mobile number that is answered, and the governorate, district and nearest landmark.
- Declaration: a description of each item with its quantity and approximate value, without general phrases.
Shipping commercial goods from Riyadh to Iraq

Iraq is a large market close by, and Riyadh has the factories and distributors that feed it. What we load most for traders: food and drink, household supplies, clothing, electrical goods, building and packaging materials, spare parts, and the samples that come before orders. Commercial goods differ from personal effects in one decisive matter: their papers. A truck that is ready but lacks a certified invoice and certificate of origin does not cross, however well it was loaded.
At our Riyadh warehouse the goods are received from the supplier, counted and matched to the invoice, then stacked on pallets, wrapped in stretch film and numbered. For anyone buying from more than one supplier we gather the purchases in the warehouse until they are complete, so they leave under one transaction instead of several.
What marks out commercial shipping with Home Safe:
- A method to fit the goods: a pallet in a shared load, a Dyna truck, or a flatbed, closed or sided trailer.
- The document file: we review the invoice, packing list and certificate of origin before the truck moves.
- Regular shipments: a regular supplier gets a fixed day in the week or month and an agreed price.
- Refrigerated: refrigerated trucks for food and dairy, with the temperature recorded along the road.
- Heavy equipment: machines and generators on dedicated flatbeds. Details are on the heavy equipment shipping page.
- Land for quantity, air for urgency: large quantities by land, and the sample or rushed part by air.
- Follow-up to the warehouse: an update at each stage until the importer signs for receipt.
Car shipping from Riyadh to Iraq
Shipping a car differs from shipping furniture in that the first decision lies neither with us nor with you, but with Iraqi customs. Iraq controls car imports with a limit on the year of manufacture, with approved technical and environmental specifications, and with a ban on anything damaged by accident, flood or fire, and it registers and inspects imported cars through an electronic platform. These controls have been amended more than once, so we verify that your car is accepted under the rules in force before we book it a place.
- What we ask for first: the make, the year of manufacture, a copy of the registration and the owner’s ID.
- Transport: on a car carrier, or inside a closed truck for a valuable car. A saloon starts from SAR 2,300, a 4×4 from SAR 2,760, and a pickup from SAR 3,220.
- Final export: the plates are cancelled and an export certificate is issued for the car before it moves.
- Preparation: take out your personal items, photograph the car from every side, check the tyres, and leave a quarter of a tank of fuel.
- An electric car: its battery is subject to safety conditions in transport, so tell us the type when you ask.
- Temporary entry: anyone travelling with their car and returning with it needs a customs carnet. It is explained on the triptik and carnet page.
Send the car’s details to 0552803439, and read about the transport methods in the article car shipping from Saudi Arabia.
Iraqi customs and the documents required for shipping from Riyadh to Iraq
The papers follow the type of shipment. Personal effects need only the details of both parties and a contents list. Commercial goods need an invoice and a clear statement of quantity, type, value and origin. A car has its own file. We review the whole file in Riyadh, because correcting a paper in the office takes an hour, and correcting it at the crossing takes days.
| Type of shipment | Documents | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Parcels and personal effects | A copy of the sender’s ID or residence permit, the consignee’s name, phone and address, and a contents list | The approximate value is stated for each item |
| Household furniture | The owner’s passport, a detailed contents list, a declaration that the goods are used and not for sale, and the final exit visa for anyone leaving | For Erbil a signed authorisation from the owner is required |
| Commercial goods | A certified commercial invoice and certificate of origin, a packing list, a bill of lading and a commercial registration | The import licence and certificate of conformity fall to the Iraqi importer, depending on the item |
| Food | The goods’ documents with a health certificate and sufficient shelf life | A sample may be taken for testing |
| Car | The registration, the owner’s ID, and the export certificate after the plates are cancelled | The year and condition are verified before booking |
- Export declaration: issued by the broker in the Kingdom under an electronic authorisation from the exporter through the Fasah platform.
- Tariff heading: each item is classified by its harmonised customs code, and a precise description on the invoice prevents a dispute over it.
- Saudi-origin products: may benefit from the facilities of the Arab free trade area with a correct certificate of origin.
- Iraqi duties: paid by the consignee, and their tariff is revised from time to time, so our broker gives you the estimate before shipping.
Sample papers are on the shipping documents page, and the broker’s service on the customs clearance page.
What cannot be shipped to Iraq or needs a permit
We do not load anything banned by law in the Kingdom or in Iraq, and some items enter with a permit from the competent authority there. The rule we work by: describe to us what is in the shipment before booking, and leave no item unmentioned. One undeclared item stops a truck carrying the goods of ten customers.
| Item | Status |
|---|---|
| Flammable and dangerous materials without a licence | Prohibited |
| Counterfeit goods and those infringing intellectual property | Prohibited |
| Tobacco and its products, and cash | Not accepted in shipments |
| Medicines and medical supplies | With a permit, or a personal quantity with a prescription |
| Wireless devices and drones | With a prior permit |
| Chemicals and wet batteries | With a permit and special packing |
| Perfume in quantity | Treated as goods, and carried by air only on the carrier’s conditions |
| Food and agricultural products | With a health certificate; imports of some are suspended seasonally to protect local produce |
| Gold, jewellery and official papers | Carried by the owner, not shipped |
The general list is on the prohibited items page.
Iraqi cities we deliver to from Riyadh
The Arar road enters Iraq from its south-west, so the first places the truck reaches are the Middle Euphrates governorates, then the capital. From Baghdad and Karbala distribution branches south and north. The delivery arrangement in each governorate follows the route and the type of shipment, so we fix it with you at booking:
| Governorate or city | Route after the crossing | Added to the Baghdad time |
|---|---|---|
| Karbala and Najaf | The first two large cities after Nukhayb | About half a day nearer than Baghdad |
| Baghdad | North from Karbala | — |
| Babil (Hillah) and Qadisiyah (Diwaniyah) | East and south from Karbala | Less than a day |
| Anbar (Ramadi and Fallujah) | North from Nukhayb, or west from Baghdad | Less than a day |
| Wasit (Kut), Dhi Qar (Nasiriyah) and Maysan (Amarah) | South from the Middle Euphrates | A day |
| Basra | South via Nasiriyah, or from Kuwait via Safwan | One to two days |
| Diyala (Baqubah) and Salah ad-Din (Tikrit) | North and east from Baghdad | A day |
| Kirkuk and Nineveh (Mosul) | North from Baghdad | One to two days |
| Erbil, Sulaymaniyah and Duhok | By road from Baghdad, or by air to Erbil airport | One to two days, with the Region’s procedures |
The Kurdistan Region has customs procedures that differ in some details from the other governorates, so we set the route and papers by city before loading. Commercial goods are delivered to the importer’s warehouse or shop, and furniture is carried into the home and assembled if you ask. Delivery in remote villages and districts is possible depending on the route available at the time of booking.
Services for individuals, companies and organisations
The customer on this line is not one type. An individual wants reassurance about their belongings and to know when they arrive. A trader wants a fixed price and a date that repeats. An official body wants complete documents and delivery against a signed record. So we arrange the service to fit its owner:
| Customer | What we provide |
|---|---|
| Individuals and families | A survey by photos, dismantling and packing at home, and delivery to the address |
| Traders and shop owners | Collection from suppliers, regular shipments, and distribution to customers’ addresses |
| Factories and companies | Full loads under contract, refrigerated when needed, and one account manager |
| Official bodies, embassies and organisations | Office furniture, equipment and files on a dedicated truck at a set time |
| Iraqi visitors and Umrah pilgrims | Shipping excess luggage and purchases from the hotel to the governorate |
Sea freight to Iraq: when is it used?
Iraq has one deep-water port on the Gulf, Umm Qasr near Basra, and a ship reaches it from King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam. Riyadh has no sea, so the container goes to Dammam by truck, or by train from the Riyadh dry port. This route suits heavy commercial loads bound for Basra and southern Iraq: steel, equipment and raw materials in full containers. For furniture, parcels and goods bound for Baghdad and the Middle Euphrates, the Arar road is shorter, faster and involves less handling. Container dimensions are on the container sizes page, and the service on the sea freight page.
Air freight from Riyadh to Iraq

An aircraft replaces two days of driving and the queue at the crossing with a flight of about two hours. Air freight leaves from the cargo village at King Khalid International Airport for Baghdad airport, and for Erbil, Najaf and Basra depending on the carrier’s schedule. It is the choice for anything tied to a date that cannot slip: an official document, a sample a contract depends on, a spare part whose absence has stopped a production line, or a small parcel. It costs more than land, so we assess the shipment before recommending it.
- Time: 2–4 days from collection in Riyadh to delivery at the address, one of them for clearance.
- Charging: by actual or volumetric weight, whichever is greater; volumetric is length × width × height in centimetres divided by 5,000. Work it out with the volumetric weight calculator.
- Price: starts from SAR 41 per kilogram and falls as the weight rises, with express documents from SAR 83.
- Erbil: air spares it the Baghdad road and its procedures, so it is the best fit for parcels to the Region.
- What needs approval: batteries, liquids, perfume and pressurised items are accepted on the carrier’s conditions or not at all.
- Delivery: our agent clears at the airport and then takes the shipment to the address.
And for anyone with a large shipment that includes an urgent part: the urgent part flies, and the rest travels by land under the same file.
Collection areas inside Riyadh and around it
We collect from homes, warehouses, showrooms, offices, shops and factories, on every side of the capital. The appointment is set once we know the size of the shipment and whether it is packed or needs a packing crew. And because the Iraq road leaves from the north of Riyadh and passes Majmaah and Hafar al-Batin, shipments from those towns join the trip on its way:
| Area | Districts or towns | Note |
|---|---|---|
| North Riyadh | Al Yasmin, Al Narjis, Al Sahafah, Al Arid, Al Malqa, Hittin and Al Rabi | Nearest to the northern road exit |
| East Riyadh | Al Nasim, Al Rawdah, Al Rimal, Qurtubah, Al Khaleej and Al Nahdah | Collected on the agreed day |
| West Riyadh | Al Suwaidi, Dhahrat Laban, Namar, Al Uraija and Tuwaiq | A small vehicle for narrow streets when needed |
| Central and south Riyadh | Al Olaya, Al Malaz, Al Shifa, Al Aziziyah, Al Mansurah and Al Dar Al Baida | Advance coordination for towers and offices |
| Industrial areas | Second Industrial City, Al Sulay and the warehouses on the Kharj road | Pallets loaded by forklift |
| Around Riyadh | Diriyah, Muzahimiyah and Al Kharj | Collected before loading day |
| On the trip’s road | Majmaah, Artawiyah and Hafar al-Batin | Loaded as the truck heads for the crossing |
Packing and temporary storage before shipping
A shipment to Iraq may be loaded in Riyadh, moved between two trucks at the crossing, then unloaded and distributed. So we pack for three handlings, not one. Double-wall corrugated cartons for belongings, bubble wrap for the fragile, clear stretch film to hold a pallet together, and a wooden crate for what cannot take pressure. Every package carries a label with its number, the consignee’s name and the governorate.
The whole shipment may not be ready on a single day. A trader is waiting for a late supplier, or a family hands over its home before its home in Iraq is ready. The belongings then stay in our Riyadh warehouse, packed and inventoried, for a day or for weeks, and move in one go when you give the word. See how it is done on the packing and lashing page.
Steps for shipping from Riyadh to Iraq with Home Safe
- Send the details: the type of shipment, its approximate weight or volume with photos, the collection point in Riyadh, and the Iraqi governorate.
- Choose the method: we compare full land, shared land and air for you by time and cost.
- Paper review: we ask for the contents list or the invoice and certificate of origin, and check that the item is accepted in Iraq.
- Price and booking: the price reaches you itemised, and after you agree we fix the loading day and hour.
- Packing and preparation: the crew dismantles, packs and numbers at your location, and records and photographs the contents.
- Loading and departure: the load is strapped down and the truck sealed, then it heads for Hafar al-Batin and Arar.
- Crossing and clearance: export at Jadidat Arar, then clearance on the Iraqi side.
- Delivery: in the agreed city, with the pieces checked against the list and the receipt signed.
Shipment tracking and insurance
What worries a shipper most on this line is the days spent at the border, because they are off the map. So we make the crossing itself a reporting point: a message when the truck reaches it, and a message when it leaves the Iraqi side. You have one person in the office who knows your file, so you do not explain your shipment again to a new employee on every call.
- Tracking: by shipment number, with five points: loading, Hafar al-Batin, the crossing, end of clearance, and the delivery appointment. The service is on the track your shipment page.
- Photos: before the truck is closed in Riyadh, and when the load is moved in the yard of the crossing if that takes place.
- Insurance: optional, and its premium is a percentage of the value you declare. Our view is that it should be taken for cars, appliances and commercial goods, as the road exceeds 1,500 km and the cargo is handled more than once. Its terms are on the cargo insurance page.
- Workmanship guarantee: any furniture damaged during our dismantling, loading or unloading is our responsibility.
- On delivery: count the pieces against the list, and write any remark in the delivery record before you sign.
Shipping from Iraq to Riyadh
Trucks come back from Iraq as they go. Our agent collects from your address in Baghdad, Karbala, Najaf or Basra, the shipment crosses at the same post, and it is then delivered in any district of Riyadh. What comes most in this direction: the furniture of an Iraqi arriving to work in the Kingdom on a valid residence permit, the excess luggage of visitors and Umrah pilgrims, and Iraqi-origin goods with a certified certificate of origin. Ask for the price on 0552803439, and state the Iraqi city and the size of the shipment.
Tips before shipping your belongings from Riyadh to Iraq
- Write the contents list before the crew arrives, and go through it with them carton by carton.
- Put breakables in separate cartons, away from tools and heavy cookware.
- Do not put liquids or perishable food inside furniture cartons; one leak ruins what is around it.
- Photograph the furniture, appliances and car before handover, and keep the photos with the shipment number.
- Write the consignee’s name, Iraqi number and governorate clearly on every package.
- Ask for air only for what deserves its cost, and leave the rest to land.
- Agree with the consignee who pays the Iraqi duties before the shipment moves.
- Carry passports, certificates and gold with you, and do not put them in the shipment.
How do you choose a shipping company from Riyadh to Iraq?
The difference between one carrier and another does not show in the first price, but in what they ask you before pricing. One who asks about the item, the papers and the governorate knows the road. One who gives you a figure in a minute has postponed the questions to the crossing. These signs tell the two apart:
| What you ask about | Reassuring sign | Warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| Legal status | Commercial registration, an address and a collection receipt | A mobile number with no establishment |
| Documents | Requests and reviews them before loading | “We sort the papers out at the border” |
| Scope of the price | To the consignee’s door, with handling written down | A price that ends at Arar |
| Agent in Iraq | A name and number in your governorate | “The driver will call you when he arrives” |
| The car | Asks about the year and condition first | Loads it and leaves its acceptance to luck |
| Time | 4 to 12 days depending on the method | A promise of two days for a land load |
Common mistakes when shipping to Iraq
- Loading commercial goods with an invoice not certified by the chamber of commerce.
- Shipping a product that needs conformity inspection before its certificate is issued.
- Assuming the import licence falls to the shipper, when it falls to the Iraqi importer.
- Writing a value below the true one on the invoice, which leads to reassessment and a fine.
- Buying a car with the aim of exporting it before making sure it is accepted there.
- Light packing for a load that will be handled in the yard of the crossing.
- Sending a shipment to Erbil without asking about the Region’s procedures and the owner’s authorisation.

The road from Riyadh to Iraq is by land at its core: a closed truck that crosses one border at Jadidat Arar and reaches Baghdad in days. The work starts with assessing the shipment at your location, then choosing the method, then packing and preparing the papers, and ends with delivery in the governorate you name. Frequently asked questions about shipping from Riyadh to Iraq
How much does shipping from Riyadh to Iraq cost?
A carton starts from SAR 140, a parcel from SAR 275, and a kilogram in a shared land load from SAR 14. A bedroom starts from SAR 2,300, a full household on its own truck from SAR 5,980, a saloon car from SAR 2,300, and a kilogram by air from SAR 41. The final figure depends on the size of your shipment and the Iraqi governorate. Call 0552803439.
How long does a shipment take from Riyadh to Baghdad?
A full truck needs 4 to 7 days from loading day, a shared load 7 to 12 days because it waits for the trip to fill, and air freight two to 4 days. The driving itself is no more than two days; the rest goes on clearance on both sides of the border.
Which crossing does the truck use to enter Iraq?
Jadidat Arar in the Northern Borders region, facing the Iraqi Arar post in Anbar governorate. It is the direct land crossing between the two countries, so the shipment passes through no third state. Basra has another route through Kuwait and the Safwan post, which we use when it is shorter for a particular cargo.
How far is Riyadh from Baghdad by road?
About 1,550 km. Roughly 1,120 km of that lies inside the Kingdom through Hafar al-Batin, Rafha and Arar up to the crossing, then about 310 km to Karbala via Nukhayb, then close to 110 km to Baghdad.
Which suits me better: land or air freight?
Land for anything with volume: furniture, appliances, goods and many cartons, and it is cheaper by a wide margin. Air for what is measured in kilograms and tied to a date: a document, a sample, a spare part, a small parcel. Many of our customers split one shipment between the two.
Do you move a full household from Riyadh to Iraq?
Yes. Our crew dismantles the bedrooms and kitchen in your home, wraps each piece to suit its material, and writes a numbered contents list for customs. A bedroom starts from SAR 2,300, a kitchen with dismantling and assembly from SAR 2,760, and a full household on a dedicated truck from SAR 5,980.
Is the furniture of a returning Iraqi exempt from duty?
We will not promise an exemption before reviewing your case. The common understanding is that a returnee’s used furniture is assessed for duty as a percentage of its declared value, and that exemption covers specific cases only. Practice shifts, so our broker at the crossing checks what is in force and we tell you the expected amount before loading.
Can a car be shipped from Riyadh to Iraq?
Yes, once its acceptance is confirmed. Iraq controls car imports with a limit on the year of manufacture and approved specifications, and bars cars damaged by accident, flood or fire. We ask for the year and a copy of the registration first, then book. Transport on a carrier starts from SAR 2,300 for a saloon and SAR 2,760 for a 4×4.
What documents does a commercial shipment need?
A commercial invoice and a certificate of origin, both certified by the chamber of commerce, a packing list, and an electronic authorisation for the broker in the Kingdom. The Iraqi importer needs an import licence for many goods, and a certificate of conformity issued before loading for products subject to inspection.
Do you ship parcels and small cartons?
Yes, and there is no minimum quantity. A single carton starts from SAR 140, a parcel from SAR 275, and up to 50 kg from SAR 415, inside the shared load that leaves on a regular schedule. Urgent items go by air from SAR 41 per kilogram.
Which Iraqi cities do you deliver to?
Baghdad, Karbala, Najaf, Babil and Anbar; southwards to Qadisiyah, Wasit, Dhi Qar, Maysan and Basra; northwards to Diyala, Salah ad-Din, Kirkuk and Mosul; and Erbil, Sulaymaniyah and Duhok in the Kurdistan Region under its own procedures.
Is the load moved to another truck at the border?
It happens on some trips: the load is taken off in the yard of the crossing and put on an Iraqi truck that completes the journey to the city. We know this before departure, so we pack accordingly and photograph the load before and after the transfer.
What is not accepted for shipping to Iraq?
Dangerous and flammable materials without a licence, counterfeits, tobacco and currency. These need a permit: medicines, wireless devices, drones, chemicals, wet batteries, and perfume in quantity.
Will my electrical appliances work in Iraq?
The voltage is close in both countries at 220 to 230 volts, so most appliances work. The Iraqi grid, however, runs at 50 hertz, so look at the rating plate of any appliance with a motor or compressor to make sure it accepts both frequencies. Sockets there come in different types, so you may need a plug adaptor.
Do you collect shipments from Iraq to Riyadh?
Yes. Our agent collects from Baghdad, Karbala, Najaf or Basra, the shipment crosses at the same post, and it is delivered in your district of Riyadh. The excess luggage of visitors and Umrah pilgrims returns the same way.
