Who ships by air from Jeddah to the UK?
People from Jeddah go to the UK to study, for medical treatment, for work and for trade, so this lane has a personal character: a mother sending her daughter in Manchester what she forgot, a scholarship student whose carton of books goes ahead of him to Glasgow, a patient in London waiting for original reports. Alongside them are companies sending contracts and samples that cannot spend a month at sea:
| Sender | What they ship by air | The first question they ask |
|---|---|---|
| Student or scholarship holder | Suitcases, cartons of books and winter clothes | Will it arrive before enrolment week, and is there tax on it? |
| A family with a son or relative there | Dates, coffee, spices and Eid clothes | What is the gift limit, and who pays at the door? |
| A patient and companion | Reports, scans, medicines with their prescriptions and items for a long stay | Can the parcel be delivered to the accommodation near the hospital? |
| A company or law firm | Contracts, powers of attorney and original certificates | Who signs for it, and when? |
| An exporter or trader | Samples, small consignments and exhibits | Which documents, and who clears at the British airport? |
Advantages of air freight from Jeddah to the UK, and its limits
A ship from Jeddah port needs three to five weeks before its cargo reaches a house in England, and an aircraft cuts that to a number of days you can count on one hand. That is the advantage the customer pays for. But the service is not for everything, and it is only fair to say what it does well and what it does not before you book:
- Flights every day: there are daily direct flights between Jeddah and London, so a shipment that misses today’s flight catches tomorrow’s, not next week’s sailing.
- Two airports of entry: Heathrow for the south and the Midlands, Manchester for the north, which shortens the road leg after landing.
- What it does not do well, first: the heavy and cheap. Household furniture and many cartons of kitchenware cost more to fly than they are worth.
- What it does not do well, second: anything aviation safety rules prohibit, such as loose batteries, alcohol-based perfume and aerosols.
The types of air service are explained on the air freight page.
The air freight process from Jeddah to the UK and the estimated delivery time
Seven hours in the air does not mean the shipment arrives the same day. Before take-off come collection, preparation and the export declaration, and after landing come the import declaration, clearance and a road leg. So we give you the full time from address to address, and break it down so that you can see where the days go:
| Stage | What happens | Usual time |
|---|---|---|
| Collection in Jeddah | The courier arrives, counts the pieces, packs what needs packing and issues the collection receipt | The day of the request or the next day |
| Acceptance at the airport | Weighing, measuring, security screening, export declaration and air waybill | One day |
| The flight | Direct to Heathrow or Manchester, or through a transit airport when needed | Hours to two days |
| UK clearance | The import declaration, then payment of the tax or application of the relief | One to two days |
| Delivery | From the airport warehouse to the consignee’s postcode | One day for London, two to three for Scotland |
This is the time for standard air freight to the address: 3–6 days for London, and 4–8 days for the northern cities and Scotland. The express service for an envelope or a light parcel takes 2–4 working days.
What lengthens the transit time?
- A missing or wrong postcode: a British address rests on its postcode, and one wrong letter sends the parcel to another district.
- A declaration in general words: a phrase such as “clothes and belongings” is not accepted by customs there, which asks for a breakdown by item and value and waits.
- Different working days: our weekend is Friday and Saturday and theirs is Saturday and Sunday, and they have public holidays that fall on a Monday, so an end-of-week shipment may wait.
Times for the other lanes are on the transit times page.
Acceptance of Jeddah shipments to the UK at the King Abdulaziz International Airport air cargo terminal

Shipments do not enter the airport through the passenger terminals. They have a separate building in the cargo area north of Jeddah, which our trucks reach through a dedicated gate. You do not go there yourself, since our courier handles the handover, but what happens in this building decides your invoice and your flight date. The shipment passes through these stations in it:
- Receipt: the pieces are unloaded and counted, the number is checked against the courier’s receipt, and the labels are read to confirm the consignee’s name and postcode.
- Weighing: each piece goes on a certified scale and its weight is entered in the shipment record.
- Measuring: the three dimensions are taken at the widest point, and the volumetric weight comes from them.
- Screening: the shipment passes through the X-ray machines, and a piece that shows a battery or a liquid is opened in the presence of the officer in charge.
- Export declaration: it is lodged with Saudi customs in the sender’s name and ID, with the contents list or the invoice.
- Air waybill: it is prepared and given an eleven-digit number, with which you follow your shipment to the British airport.
- Loading: shipments bound for the same airport are built up on an aircraft pallet and covered with a net, then towed to the aircraft hours before departure.
What the airport scale records is what the charge is based on. If it differs from your estimate at home, we call you before booking the flight so that you can agree or adjust. Cargo acceptance times and the way we work with the airport are in the article air freight office in Jeddah.
Chargeable weight and volumetric weight: how is your shipment calculated?
An aircraft sells space as much as it sells payload. If everyone were charged on the scale alone, the hold would fill with light, bulky cartons that do not pay for the room they take. So two figures are worked out for each piece: its actual weight, and its volumetric weight, which is length × width × height in centimetres ÷ 6000 in general air freight, and ÷ 5000 with some express courier services. The rate is multiplied by the greater of the two. Examples from shipments on this lane:
| Piece | On the scale | Volumetric weight | Charged as |
|---|---|---|---|
| Suitcase 70 × 45 × 28 cm | 23 kg | 14.7 kg | 23 kg |
| Carton of university books 45 × 35 × 30 cm | 20 kg | 7.9 kg | 20 kg |
| Carton of blankets and coats 60 × 60 × 50 cm | 14 kg | 30 kg | 30 kg |
| Pallet of samples 120 × 100 × 90 cm | 150 kg | 180 kg | 180 kg |
Books are charged on their weight, and coats and blankets on their size. A student who puts the winter coat in a vacuum bag, and fills the gaps in the book carton with socks, pays less than one who ships the same things without any order. Try your figures in the volumetric weight calculator before you seal the cartons.
Costs and options for air freight from Jeddah to the UK
Air pricing has two rules. The first is that the charge is on the chargeable kilogram, and that the rate per kilogram falls each time the shipment moves into a higher weight band. The second is that an envelope and a small parcel have a flat price because they travel on the express service. These are our starting prices to the UK, and the final figure reaches you once we know the weight, the dimensions, the postcode and what you want in packing and clearance:
| What you ship | How it is charged | Price starts from |
|---|---|---|
| Document envelope up to one kilogram | Per envelope | SAR 83 |
| Parcel of no more than 5 kg | Per parcel | SAR 110 |
| Suitcases, cartons and samples | Per chargeable kilogram | SAR 26 a kilogram |
| A suitcase charged as 23 kg | 23 × 26 | SAR 598 |
| A shipment of 100 kg or more | Per chargeable kilogram | A lower rate per kilogram, set on request |
| Commercial goods on pallets | Per pallet or per kilogram | Set on request |
| A car on a freighter aircraft | By dimensions and weight | Set on request |
Prices quoted in the market on this lane vary widely. What is published for an air kilogram to the UK sits around SAR 28, along with SAR 400 for every 5 kg, about SAR 500 for a 30 kg parcel by economy post, and SAR 1,200 for an air parcel of up to 5 kg. Online booking platforms show an express document from about SAR 240 and an express parcel from about SAR 530 before tax, and air freight guides add to the rate per kilogram a fuel surcharge of half a dollar to two dollars and a terminal handling charge. Full worked examples for this country are in the article shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to the UK.
| Factor | Its effect on the invoice |
|---|---|
| Weight band | The rate per kilogram drops at around 45, 100 and 300 kg |
| Ratio of size to weight | A bulky carton pays for the air inside it |
| Delivery city | London and Manchester are closest to the two airports, and Scotland adds the road leg |
| Where the service ends | At the airport, at the door with clearance, or at the door with the tax included |
| Season | August and September are the student season, and space on flights gets tight |
How do you cut the cost?
- Choose a carton the size of its contents, and compress clothes and blankets in vacuum bags.
- Send once rather than three times: a 50 kg shipment costs less per kilogram than five shipments of 10 kg each.
- Leave the heavy, non-urgent items for the sea, and put on the aircraft only what you need in your first weeks.
- Declare the value as it is. An understated value is found out there, and its fine and delay weigh more than the tax.
Each item is explained on the pricing factors page.
Shipping students’ luggage and personal effects by air from Jeddah to the UK

In late summer this lane changes its face: most of what enters the cargo terminal from Jeddah is suitcases and cartons with university names on them. The student travels with one or two bags on the ticket, and the rest follows by air to the residence. A third bag on the ticket is expensive and limited in weight, whereas shipping it with the carton of books is charged by the kilogram and delivered to the door of the residence.
- Collection from the residence in Jeddah: from the family home, the student’s flat or university housing in any district, at a time that suits the day of travel.
- What is usually shipped: books and references, winter clothes, shoes, bedding and a blanket, simple kitchen items, a prayer mat, a Quran, and a coffee pot with its cups.
- The relief: in current practice a full-time student’s clothing, study materials and room furnishings enter free of duty and tax and without prior approval, provided proof of study is attached to the declaration. We confirm the rule in force before shipping.
- The address: the name of the hall, the room number and the postcode, the name as registered with the university, and a UK mobile number or an email address that is answered.
- Timing: the bags are handed to us three to five days before travel, so they arrive once their owner has collected the room key.
People other than students ship their personal effects the same way, such as a seconded employee or a patient’s companion, and the declaration reads “used personal effects” with a list of what is in each piece. Anyone shipping the furniture of a whole house should go by sea, as detailed in the article shipping from Jeddah to the UK.
Express documents and parcels from Jeddah to the UK
An original certificate a university asks for, an attested power of attorney a solicitor in London is waiting for, a medical report a hospital needs before the date of an operation: for papers like these only hand delivery and the recipient’s signature will do. The express service collects the envelope from your office or home in Jeddah and delivers it to the British address within two to four working days, and papers enter the UK free of duty and tax because they are not goods.
- Prices: a document envelope up to one kilogram from SAR 83, and a parcel up to 5 kg from SAR 110.
- The small parcel: a phone, prescription glasses, a spare part, a medicine with its prescription, or a gift, with a statement in English giving each item and its value.
- Proof of delivery: you receive the name of the person who signed and the time of delivery, which is what companies need for their files.
The parcel service in detail is on the parcel shipping page.
Commercial air cargo and samples from Jeddah to the UK

A trader chooses the aircraft in two cases: when the goods are light and costly, and when time has a price, as with a sample on which a contract depends or exhibits with an opening day. The cartons are stacked on pallets, wrapped and strapped, so that the pallet moves by forklift as one piece from our warehouse to the aircraft hold and then to the importer’s warehouse. Leaving Jeddah in this form are factory samples, premium dates before Ramadan, abayas, and the exhibits of companies taking part in shows in London and Birmingham.
| Type of shipment | How it is prepared | What entry into the UK requires |
|---|---|---|
| Samples for companies | A carton or small pallet marked “sample, not for sale” | A sample invoice with the true value; it may be relieved if of negligible value and unfit for sale |
| Exhibits that will return to Jeddah | Numbered crates matching the list | Temporary admission under its carnet where available, so no tax is paid on what returns |
| Dates and dry foods for sale | Cartons on a pallet, kept at a moderate temperature | An English label with the ingredients, the shelf life and the name of the UK importer |
| Clothing, abayas and fabrics | Compressed cartons sorted by size | A label showing country of manufacture and fibre content |
With us the shipment’s documents are prepared before it is loaded: a commercial invoice in English, a packing list with the weight and dimensions of each pallet, and a certificate of origin if the buyer asks for one. The importer in the UK needs a British customs identification number in whose name the declaration is lodged, so ask for it before booking. A wooden pallet must be of heat-treated timber bearing the international stamp, and its height has a ceiling set by the hold of a passenger aircraft, so send the dimensions before stacking. Details of the service for companies are on the commercial shipping page.
Shipping dates, gifts and food by air to the UK
The family parcel is what we send most after students’ suitcases, and what stalls most when it is prepared in a hurry. The UK allows dry plant-based foods in personal parcels and bans anything of animal origin arriving from outside Europe. Knowing that line before packing saves the parcel from being opened and its contents seized.
- Accepted: dates packed in their boxes, Saudi coffee, cardamom and saffron, ground spices, maamoul, kleija and dry sweets.
- Not accepted: meat and meat products, ghee, butter, cheeses, dried yoghurt and milk powder, and any food filled with them.
- Dates: in current practice they are among the fruits exempt from the plant-health certificate on entry to Great Britain, and we confirm the rule in force before dispatch.
- Zamzam water: it is not shipped as a parcel or as cargo, and the traveller’s dedicated pack goes with the traveller only.
- Value of the gift: write it as it is, since the VAT allowance is 39 pounds in current practice and anything above it is charged 20%.
Reliable air freight companies: who actually carries your shipment?
Anyone searching for the best shipping companies from Jeddah to the UK finds many names, and most of them do not own an aircraft. There are in fact three parties: an airline selling space in its hold, an express courier network with its own aircraft and couriers, and a freight forwarder with whom the customer contracts and who books with one or the other according to the shipment. We are in the third position and are not tied to one carrier, so for each shipment we choose what suits its weight, its date and its city. The options available from Jeddah:
| Option | How it works | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Direct passenger flight to Heathrow | The shipment is in the lower hold and lands in London after about seven hours | Suitcases, cartons and low pallets for London and the south |
| Direct flight to Manchester | The shipment enters straight from the north | Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield and Scotland |
| Flight through a transit airport | The shipment is transferred to a second aircraft at a Gulf or European airport | Anyone who prefers a lower price to a day or two |
| Door-to-door express courier | One network collects, clears and delivers | Envelopes and parcels up to roughly 30 kg |
Flight schedules change from one season to the next, so we build your date on what is operating in the week of booking, and tell you which airport your shipment will enter through.
Documents required for air freight to the UK
The shipment’s data is sent to UK customs electronically before the aircraft lands, so a missing paper is not discovered at the door but a day before that. We ask for all the papers at the time of booking and review them while we are still in Jeddah, because correcting them after take-off costs days. This is what each type needs:
| Shipment | What it needs | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Envelope of papers | The sender’s ID, and the consignee’s name, address, postcode and mobile number | No invoice |
| Family parcel or gift | The sender’s ID, and a statement giving each item, its quantity and its value | Marked as a gift between two private persons if that is the case |
| Student’s belongings | Passport and visa, offer or enrolment letter, and a contents list | No transfer of residence number is needed |
| Belongings of someone moving to live there | Passport, the reference number of the relief approval, a contents list and proof of the UK address | The approval is issued before shipping, not after |
| Goods and samples | Commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin on request, and the importer’s customs identification number | The tariff code on the invoice |
A definition of each document and the body that issues it is on the shipping documents page.
What cannot be shipped by air to the UK: prohibited items and dangerous goods
What is forbidden in air freight is of two kinds that both apply to the same parcel. One kind is banned by aviation safety rules worldwide because it may ignite or leak under the pressure of the hold, and the other is banned or restricted by the UK itself whatever the means of entry. Most of what is turned back from airport screening is everyday things the sender put in with good intentions:
| Item | Status | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Power banks and spare batteries | Not shipped in the hold of passenger aircraft | Carried in hand luggage or bought there |
| A phone or laptop with its battery | Accepted switched off, protected and in limited numbers | Stated in the declaration |
| Alcohol-based perfume and nail polish | Flammable liquids, under a dangerous goods declaration only | Large quantities by sea |
| Pressurised aerosols | Deodorant, hairspray and air freshener do not go in an ordinary parcel | Taken out of the suitcase |
| Meat, dairy and their products | Banned by the UK in personal shipments from outside Europe | Not shipped |
| Self-defence sprays and knives with a concealed blade | Prohibited in the UK | Not shipped |
| Counterfeit goods | Seized | Not shipped |
| Cash, gold and jewellery | Not accepted in ordinary freight | Valuables transport services |
If you are unsure about an item, photograph it with its label and send it to us before you seal the carton. The general list for all destinations is on the prohibited items page.
Customs procedures and inspection of air shipments in the UK
The UK is outside the European Union and has its own customs tariff and tax. VAT is 20% on most goods, and it is calculated on the value of the goods plus the freight, the insurance and the duty. Clearance takes place in the cargo area of the arrival airport. Inspection is a review of the declaration on screen, followed by a physical opening of the shipment if its description raises a question. This is the treatment in current practice for the most common cases, and we confirm what is in force before every shipment because the limits are reviewed:
| Case | Current practice |
|---|---|
| Papers and documents | No duty and no tax |
| A gift between two private persons worth up to 39 pounds | No VAT |
| A gift worth more than 39 pounds | VAT at 20%, paid by the consignee to the delivery company if not settled in advance |
| A shipment worth up to 135 pounds | No customs duty, unless it consists of excise goods such as tobacco |
| A shipment worth more than 135 pounds | Duty according to the item and the country of origin, then VAT on the total |
| A full-time student’s belongings | Relieved on proof of study, without prior approval |
| Belongings of someone transferring residence | Relieved under an approval number issued before shipping, for those who lived abroad for 12 months and owned their belongings for 6 months |
Transfer of residence relief does not cover alcoholic drinks, tobacco or commercial vehicles, and the belongings must arrive within 12 months of the move. Northern Ireland has a special arrangement that differs from England, Scotland and Wales, and its shipments are treated accordingly. The release steps and the role of the customs broker are on the customs clearance page.
Delivering air freight from Jeddah in London, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow

After release the shipment leaves the airport warehouse for a distribution network that covers the whole country by postcode. What lands at Heathrow is mostly delivered in London the next day, and what lands at Manchester is distributed across the north from there. Birmingham, in the middle of the country, is reached by truck from either airport within hours. Glasgow is the farthest, and its route mostly runs through Manchester. In every case delivery is to the address: the front door, the reception of the student hall or the warehouse dock. These are the main cities and their approximate road distances:
| City | Airport it mostly enters through | Approximate road distance | Delivery note |
|---|---|---|---|
| London and its suburbs | Heathrow | Within the area | The centre is congested, and flats need the building name and the buzzer number |
| Manchester | Manchester | Within the area | A large university city, served together with Salford and Bolton |
| Birmingham and Coventry | Heathrow or Manchester | About 180 km from Heathrow, and about 140 km from Manchester | Mostly one day after release |
| Leeds, Sheffield and Liverpool | Manchester | 50–70 km | One day after release |
| Glasgow and Edinburgh | Manchester or Heathrow | About 350 km from Manchester, and about 640 km from Heathrow | Two to three days, and longer for the Scottish islands and Highlands |
| Cardiff and Bristol | Heathrow | 170–230 km | One to two days |
Small towns and villages are served by the same postcode system, usually with one extra day. A UK mobile number that the consignee answers cuts down the delivery attempts.
Air or sea freight to the UK?
The question we put to every customer: how much does your shipment weigh, and when do you need it? Tens of kilograms with a deadline go through the airport. Cubic metres that a month will not harm go through Jeddah Islamic Port to Felixstowe or Southampton. Between the two limits are shipments of roughly 150 to 300 kg, which we cost both ways and show you the two figures. We do not rely on a land route to the UK.
| Point of comparison | By air | By sea |
|---|---|---|
| Time from the door in Jeddah to the British door | 3–6 days | 25–40 days |
| Charging basis | The chargeable kilogram | The cubic metre or the container |
| Price starts from | SAR 26 a kilogram | SAR 5,500 for a part-load, and SAR 11,000 for a full container |
| Suits | Suitcases, parcels, documents and samples | Household furniture, cars and heavy goods |
| Leaves from | King Abdulaziz International Airport | Jeddah Islamic Port |
Sea freight, furniture and containers are in the article shipping from Jeddah to the UK, the full picture for every Saudi city is in the article shipping company from Saudi Arabia to the UK, and a table of all the methods is on the shipping methods comparison page.
Car shipping by air from Jeddah to the UK
A car seldom travels by aircraft, but the service exists for those who need it: a classic car invited to an event, a rare sports car with a buyer waiting, or a car whose owner does not want it to spend weeks out at sea. The car is tied down by its wheels on an aircraft pallet and enters the freighter through its door, with the fuel at its minimum and the battery disconnected as the carrier requires. Its price is set on request once the dimensions, the weight and the available flight are known.
The UK drives on the left, yet a left-hand-drive car may be registered there after modifications and a test. The usual route for cars is the sea: a saloon on a RoRo vessel to Southampton starts from SAR 2,800. Everything about entry and registration is in the article car shipping from Jeddah to the UK.
Safe packing for air shipments
An air parcel does not shake the way a container does at sea, but it is carried by hand, stacked and run along conveyors, and it goes from the heat and humidity of Jeddah to the cold and rain of a British airport. Packing here has two opposing jobs that must be reconciled: to protect, and not to enlarge the size and so raise the chargeable weight. What we do and what we advise:
- Tape in an H shape: over the opening and the two edges, top and bottom, so the base does not give way under the weight of books.
- Glass and devices: wrap each piece on its own, with padding on all six sides and nothing touching the wall of the carton.
- Permitted liquids: a cap secured with tape, then a sealed bag, then something to absorb a leak, because pressure in the air pushes liquid out at the weakest point.
How to pack each type of item is in the packing guide.
Collection from Jeddah’s districts and nearby towns
The airport is at the far north of Jeddah, and the city stretches tens of kilometres south of it. So we divide the couriers’ day along that stretch: the southern and central districts in the morning and the north in the afternoon, so that all of the day’s shipments reach the cargo terminal before acceptance closes for the night flight. We collect from outside Jeddah as well, and those shipments join their flights:
| Area | Position relative to the airport | How we collect |
|---|---|---|
| Obhur North and South, Al-Hamdaniyah, Ar-Riyadh and As-Salhiyah | The closest districts to it | Mostly on the day of the request |
| An-Nahdah, Al-Khalidiyah, Ar-Rawdah, Az-Zahra, As-Salamah and Ash-Shati | North of the centre | By appointment from the home or office |
| Al-Aziziyah, Ar-Rehab, Al-Faisaliyah, As-Safa and An-Naseem | The centre and east of the city | By appointment, with the district’s shipments gathered in one round |
| Al-Balad, Al-Baghdadiyah, As-Sabeel, Al-Jamiah and Al-Iskan | The south | A small vehicle for the lanes of the old districts, and the university’s student housing |
| Makkah | About 80 km to the east | British Umrah pilgrims’ suitcases from their hotels, at the hours trucks may enter |
| Thuwal, Rabigh and King Abdullah Economic City | 80–150 km to the north | By prior appointment, with an entry permit for the university residence |
The other cities we reach are on the service cities page, and the rest of what we offer in the city is in the article international shipping companies in Jeddah.
Steps of air freight from Jeddah to the UK
- You tell us what you have: the type of shipment, the number of pieces, their approximate weight and dimensions, your district in Jeddah and the UK postcode.
- We ask about the contents and the status: are there batteries, liquids or food in it? Is the consignee a student, someone moving to live there, or a company? The answer decides the papers and the tax.
- You receive an itemised price: the rate per kilogram, what the service covers, where it ends and who settles the UK charges.
- You send the papers: ID, the contents list with values, and the offer letter, the approval number or the commercial invoice, depending on your case.
- The courier arrives: counts the pieces, strengthens weak packing, fixes the address labels and gives you a receipt.
- The shipment is accepted at the airport: weighing, measuring and screening, after which we tell you the chargeable weight before space is booked for it.
- It takes off: you receive the air waybill number, the flight number and the British airport it will land at.
- It is cleared and delivered: customs release, then delivery to the address, then proof of delivery in the name of the person who signed.
Guarantees, insurance and tracking of the air shipment
What we commit to is written in the booking confirmation: the scope of the service, the expected time, and what is paid and what is not. Time in air freight is expected, not guaranteed to the hour, because weather and customs inspection are outside any company’s hands. Compensation for damage or loss, however, comes by two different routes:
- The carrier’s liability: set in the international conventions at an amount per kilogram; it applies without being requested, but it does not cover the value of costly items.
- Cargo insurance: optional, calculated as a percentage of the declared value, and covering the full value from collection to delivery. We advise it for computers, samples and originals that cannot be replaced.
- Cancellation and amendment terms: stated in the booking confirmation you receive before collection, so read them before you agree.
- Tracking: the air waybill number follows the shipment to the British airport warehouse, and the delivery company’s number follows it to the door. We send you both with a message at each stage, and you can follow it on the track your shipment page.
- If a parcel arrives damaged: the consignee writes a remark on the driver’s sheet before signing and photographs the parcel from every side, since without that the claim is weakened.
The types of cover and their limits are on the cargo insurance page.
Air freight from the UK to Jeddah
The return keeps the lane as busy as the outward leg. A scholarship student who has finished his studies comes back with books, certificates and the belongings of several years, and someone shopping from British stores wants somebody to receive the orders there and combine them. Our agent collects from the address or the student hall, or receives the parcels from the shops, and they are then flown to King Abdulaziz Airport, where we clear and deliver them.
- A returnee’s belongings: the used ones are cleared in Jeddah as personal effects against a contents list and a copy of the passport.
- New purchases: they carry the duty for the item and VAT at 15% in the Kingdom.
- Consolidation: orders from several shops are combined into one shipment, which then enters a weight band with a lower rate per kilogram.
For other air destinations from Jeddah: air freight from Jeddah to Europe, and air freight from Jeddah to France.
Tips for the best air freight experience from Jeddah to the UK
Most trouble on this lane comes neither from the aircraft nor from customs, but from a small detail neglected in Jeddah: a postcode, a word in the declaration, or something put in the suitcase at the last moment.
- Tell the consignee the expected day of arrival, and that a genuine payment message from the delivery company may reach them.
- Write the contents list in English item by item: “5 books, 3 coats, a coffee pot”, not “belongings”.
- Empty the suitcases of aerosols, lighters and spare batteries before the courier arrives.
- Do not combine used belongings and new gifts in one piece, because separating them makes the relief easier to apply.
- If there is a date that cannot move, such as the start of term or the day of a show, allow two days in reserve.
How do you choose an air freight company from Jeddah to the UK?
Before you compare the rate per kilogram between two offers, compare what each of them asks you. A company that asks about the dimensions, the contents and the consignee’s status knows what your shipment will face in the UK. One that gives you a figure in the first minute without a question postpones the surprise until after collection. Signs that tell the two apart:
| Subject | A sign of seriousness | A sign that calls for caution |
|---|---|---|
| Registration and paperwork | A commercial registration number, a collection receipt and a booking confirmation with the terms | No paper, and payment to an individual’s account |
| Method of calculation | Asks for the dimensions and mentions volumetric weight from the start | Prices on the scale, then demands a difference after take-off |
| What is in the shipment | Asks about batteries, liquids and food | Accepts everything without a question |
| UK customs | Distinguishes between a student, a mover and a gift, and asks who pays the tax | “There are no charges”, with no detail |
| Limits of the service | Names the airport and the point of delivery | “To the door”, with no mention of clearance |
Common mistakes in air freight from Jeddah to the UK
- Relying on the scale weight to estimate the charge, then being surprised by the carton of blankets charged at twice its weight.
- Sending heavy furniture and kitchenware by aircraft when the sea would have done for a fraction of the charge.
- Putting a tin of ghee or cheese in the parcel of dates, so that the parcel is opened and the animal products in it are seized.
- Recording a high value for a simple gift or a fictitious low value for a costly device, either of which stops the parcel.
- Shipping the belongings of someone moving to live there before the approval number is issued, so the tax is charged on them in full.
- Sending the suitcases to a student hall where the student has not yet registered, so the reception desk refuses them.
- Leaving only a Saudi mobile number for the consignee, so the British delivery company’s messages never arrive.

Frequently asked questions about air freight from Jeddah to the UK
How much does air freight from Jeddah to the UK cost?
We start from SAR 26 per chargeable kilogram for suitcases, cartons and samples. An envelope of papers weighing no more than one kilogram starts from SAR 83, and a small parcel of up to 5 kg from SAR 110. UK tax and duty sit outside these figures unless you ask for duties-paid delivery. For a price: 0552803439.
How long does an air shipment take from Jeddah to London?
From 3 to 6 days, counted from the hour of collection in Jeddah to the hour of signature in London. Manchester and Birmingham mostly take one day more, and Glasgow and Edinburgh two to three because the shipment crosses the country by road. A document envelope on the express service is delivered within two to four working days.
Are there direct flights from Jeddah to British airports?
To London, yes: daily direct flights link King Abdulaziz Airport and Heathrow in about seven hours, and Manchester has regular direct flights as well. Birmingham is served by direct flights in some schedules, so we do not build your date on them. No direct flight from Jeddah reaches Glasgow, so its shipments enter through London or Manchester and continue by truck.
My suitcase weighs 23 kg. What weight am I charged on?
On the greater of its scale weight and its volumetric weight. A medium suitcase measuring 70 × 45 × 28 cm has a volumetric weight of about 15 kg, so it is charged as 23 because the scale is higher here. A 60 × 60 × 50 cm carton of blankets, on the other hand, is charged as 30 even if it weighs only 14.
Does a student pay tax on belongings entering the UK?
In current practice, someone enrolling on a full-time course brings in clothing, study materials including a personal computer, and the items that furnish a room, free of duty and tax and without prior approval. The condition is that proof of study accompanies the customs declaration, so we put the offer letter and a copy of the visa in the file. We confirm the rule in force before shipping.
What is the gift allowance in the UK?
In current practice a gift sent by one private person to another and worth no more than 39 pounds sterling is not charged VAT. Above that, VAT is charged at 20%. Customs duty only begins once the value of the shipment exceeds 135 pounds, unless it contains tobacco or similar goods. We review the limits in force before every dispatch.
I am moving to live in the UK. Do I need approval before sending my belongings by air?
Yes. Transfer of residence relief is applied for online before the shipment moves, and an approval is issued with a reference number that goes on the import declaration. In current practice you must have lived outside the UK for 12 consecutive months and owned your belongings for 6 months. One number covers what you send by air and by sea together.
Can I send dates and coffee by air to my son in the UK?
Yes, in personal quantities. Packed dates, coffee, cardamom, spices and dry maamoul are plant-based foods that are accepted, and in current practice dates are exempt from the plant-health certificate there. What may not enter from outside Europe is meat and meat products and milk and dairy products, so do not put ghee, cheese or dried yoghurt in with the dates.
Are a laptop, a phone and a power bank accepted in the shipment?
A laptop, a phone and a tablet are accepted as long as their batteries are fitted inside them, the devices are switched off completely and padded so that the power button cannot be pressed, and there are only a few in any one parcel. A power bank and a spare battery do not enter the hold of a passenger aircraft as cargo. Their owner carries them in hand luggage, or buys them in the UK.
Can I send perfume, oud oil and incense by air?
Alcohol-based perfume is classed as a flammable liquid, so it does not travel in an ordinary parcel but under a dangerous goods declaration in limited packagings, and commercial quantities belong in a container. Pure alcohol-free oud oil, incense and oud chips are accepted once their details have been reviewed and they are tightly packed. Quick-light charcoal discs are forbidden by air.
Do you deliver to Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland?
Yes. Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen in Scotland, and Cardiff and Swansea in Wales, are all delivered to the address after release at the arrival airport. We serve Northern Ireland too, but it has a customs arrangement that differs from the rest of the UK, so mention it when booking so that its declaration is prepared correctly.
Who pays the UK tax: the sender in Jeddah or the consignee?
The decision is yours on the day you book. If you choose standard delivery, the delivery company asks the consignee for the tax, the duty and its own handling fee before handing over. If you choose duties-paid delivery, we settle them and add them to your invoice in Jeddah, so your son or your customer receives the parcel without being asked for a single pound.
Does the rate per kilogram include insurance?
It does not. Under the international conventions the air carrier is liable for a limited amount per kilogram, and that amount comes nowhere near the price of a computer or a costly sample. Anyone who wants the full value covered asks for insurance as a separate item, calculated as a percentage of the declared value.
Can a car be shipped by air from Jeddah to the UK?
It can, and it is a rare choice: a classic or sports car with a date at an auction or an event, secured on an aircraft pallet and loaded into a freighter, with the price set on request. Otherwise the sea is the usual route, and a saloon on a RoRo vessel from Jeddah port to Southampton starts from SAR 2,800.
Do you ship by air from the UK to Jeddah?
Yes. Our agent collects from the house, the student hall or the shop in any British city, the shipment lands at King Abdulaziz Airport, and we then clear it and deliver it to your district. New shop purchases carry the duty for the item and Saudi VAT at 15%, while a returning student’s used belongings are cleared as personal effects against a contents list.
