Who ships by air from Jeddah to Europe?

Jeddah is the gateway to the Two Holy Mosques and an old trading city, so two kinds of sender meet on its European lane. The first are individuals: families with children studying or being treated there, European residents, and Umrah pilgrims who came from the continent. The second are businesses sending what cannot wait for a ship. This is what each of them asks first:

Sender What they send by air The first thing they ask
A family with a son or a patient in Europe Clothes, dates, coffee and medicines with their prescriptions Will the consignee pay anything at the door?
Student or scholarship holder Extra suitcases, books and things for the room Will it arrive before term starts?
A European resident going home Belongings for the first weeks, ahead of the container Does transfer-of-residence relief cover them?
Umrah or Hajj pilgrim from Europe Gifts, rugs, abayas and purchases Can it be collected from the hotel before the flight?
Factory or exporter Samples, urgent batches and spare parts What papers, and who clears it there?
Clinic, laboratory or medical supplier Devices, samples and medicines with a temperature range How is the temperature held all the way?

Air freight services from Jeddah to Europe and their advantages

The air service does not come in one shape. It varies with who collects the shipment in Jeddah, where our work ends in Europe, and how much waiting the shipment can bear. We offer the customer whichever of these types fits the shipment, and we say plainly when the aircraft is not the right choice:

  • Door to door: we collect from your address, clear in both countries and deliver to the consignee’s address. This is what most individuals ask for.
  • Door to airport: our service ends at the arrival airport warehouse, where the importer’s broker takes over. It suits companies that have an agent there.
  • Express service: for an envelope or a light parcel, through a single express network that collects and delivers.
  • Consolidation: small shipments bound for the same airport are grouped under one master air waybill, which lowers the rate per kilo in return for a day or two of waiting.
  • Freighter aircraft: for long and heavy pieces and declared goods that the hold of a passenger aircraft does not accept.

The advantage of the aircraft that people pay for is time: a sea container to northern Europe needs a month or more, and an air parcel is delivered in under a week, with less handling and station-by-station tracking. Its limit is cheap, heavy cargo: household furniture costs more to fly than it is worth. The service types are explained on the air freight page.

The route of an air shipment from Jeddah to Europe and its transit time

It is sometimes said that a shipment reaches Europe in one to three days. That is true of the aircraft, and of an express envelope at best, but not of an ordinary shipment door to door: before take-off there is preparation and an export declaration, and after landing release and a road leg. These are the parts of the whole period:

Stage What happens in it Usual time
Collection from the address Counting the pieces, reinforcing the packing and issuing a receipt The day of the request or the next
Airport cargo village Weighing, measuring, screening, export declaration and air waybill One day
Flight A direct flight, or two flights with a transit airport between them Hours to two days
Release at the arrival airport Import declaration, then payment of what is due or application of the relief One to two days
Distribution From the airport warehouse to the consignee’s postcode One day within the airport’s region, two to three further afield

So the door-to-door time is 3–6 days in London, Paris, Rome, Madrid, Amsterdam and Frankfurt, and 4–7 days in Berlin and the cities the shipment reaches by road, and usually in Denmark and Norway. An express envelope takes two to four working days.

What lengthens the transit time?

  • Different weekends: whatever lands on Friday evening waits for the European Monday morning, so we prefer to receive the shipment early in the week.
  • A vague description on the declaration: the word “belongings” or “gifts” with no detail stops the parcel until the consignee has been asked what is in it.
  • A missing importer number: a declaration for commercial goods cannot be lodged in the European Union without the importer’s customs identification number.

Transit times on the other lanes are on the transit times page.

Acceptance and build-up of Europe shipments at the King Abdulaziz International Airport cargo village in Jeddah

Acceptance and build-up of Europe shipments at the King Abdulaziz International Airport cargo village in Jeddah

The cargo village is a self-contained area of King Abdulaziz Airport, away from the passenger terminals, with acceptance warehouses, pallet build-up yards and customs offices. Our trucks enter it every day with what has been collected from the districts of Jeddah. You are not asked to attend, but what is recorded there is what goes on your invoice. These are the shipment’s stations inside it, in order:

  1. Receiving: the pieces are unloaded at the acceptance dock and matched against the driver’s receipt by count and address.
  2. Weighing: a certified scale for every piece, and its figure is the reference in any dispute.
  3. Measuring: the three dimensions from the most protruding point of the parcel, which give the volumetric weight.
  4. Screening: X-ray machines for everything that enters, and opening by hand for whatever shows a liquid, a battery or an unclear shape.
  5. Export declaration: entered at Saudi customs under the sender’s name, and the contents list or invoice goes with it.
  6. Preparing the air waybill: it carries the names of both parties, the description, the weight and the arrival airport, and bears an eleven-digit number.
  7. Building the pallet: shipments for one airport are stacked on an aircraft pallet or in an air container, secured with a net and towed to the aircraft.

Every flight has an hour at which acceptance closes before take-off, and a shipment that arrives after it stays overnight for the next flight, so we plan the collection rounds in Jeddah around the Europe flight times. How we work with the airport is covered in the article air freight office in Jeddah.

Chargeable weight: why does the invoice figure differ from the scale figure?

An aircraft hold fills up by volume before it fills up by weight, so airlines charge on whichever is greater. Every piece has an actual weight read off the scale, and a volumetric weight equal to length × width × height in centimetres ÷ 6000 in general air cargo, and ÷ 5000 with some express networks. These are examples of what is sent from Jeddah to Europe:

Piece Scale weight Volumetric weight Chargeable weight
Box of premium dates, 40 × 30 × 20 cm 6 kg 4 kg 6 kg
Carton of toys and gifts, 60 × 40 × 40 cm 8 kg 16 kg 16 kg
Rolled rug, 200 × 30 × 30 cm 18 kg 30 kg 30 kg
Pallet of cartons, 120 × 80 × 120 cm 160 kg 192 kg 192 kg

The practical rule: paper and dates are charged on their weight, and toys, rugs and cushions on their volume. Anyone who folds the rug instead of rolling it, or takes the toy out of its large display box, pays less. Put your measurements into the volumetric weight calculator before you call.

Air freight prices from Jeddah to Europe

We price an air shipment in two ways. An envelope and a small parcel have a flat charge because they travel on the express service. Everything else is charged per chargeable kilogram, and the rate per kilo falls as the shipment grows. The UK has a rate per kilo of its own. The figures are starting points, and the final price follows the country, the city, the weight and the dimensions:

Shipment Charging basis Price starts from
Document envelope up to one kilogram Per envelope SAR 83
Parcel up to 5 kg Per parcel SAR 110
Parcels, luggage and samples to the continent Per chargeable kilogram SAR 23 a kilo
Parcels, luggage and samples to the UK Per chargeable kilogram SAR 26 a kilo
A carton charged as 16 kg to the continent 16 × 23 SAR 368
Shipment of 100 kg or more Per chargeable kilogram A lower rate per kilo, set on request
Commercial goods on pallets Per pallet or per kilogram Set on request
Chilled shipment or declared goods According to the handling required Set on request
A car in a freighter By dimensions and weight Set on request

Market prices for this lane are few and far apart. Most freight offices publish no figure for Europe and settle for the words “price on request”. General guides to shipping companies in the Kingdom say that international express shipping starts from about SAR 250 a shipment, and that a kilogram with some networks is about SAR 120 for an individual and about SAR 40 for a business account holder. They give two to five working days for the express service and up to fifteen days for the economy one. So ask about every figure you read: does it come with clearance and delivery, or is it the bare rate per kilo?

What changes the price How
Country and arrival airport The large hub airports cost less, and anything needing a second flight or a truck has that added
Weight break The rate per kilo drops near 45, 100 and 300 kg
Scope of service To the airport, to the door, or to the door duties paid
Nature of the shipment Chilled, fragile and declared goods have handling with its own charge

How do you bring the cost down?

  • Ask for consolidation if your date has two days of slack in it.
  • Take products out of their roomy display boxes, and put each piece in the smallest carton that protects it.
  • Gather all the family’s gifts into one dispatch to one address, and let the consignee hand them out there.
  • Split the move: what you need in the first month by air, and the rest in the shared container.

The invoice items are explained on the pricing factors page.

The European destinations we ship to by air from Jeddah

We cover the countries that customers in Jeddah ask for most: the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, Denmark and Norway. Some are reached by a direct flight from King Abdulaziz Airport under the current schedule, and some are served through a hub airport. The table shows where a shipment enters each country and where to find its details:

Country Usual entry airports Time to the door Details
UK Heathrow in London, and Manchester 3–6 days air freight from Jeddah to the UK
France Charles de Gaulle in Paris 3–6 days air freight from Jeddah to France
Spain Madrid-Barajas, and Barcelona 3–5 days air freight from Jeddah to Spain
Germany Frankfurt and Munich, with Berlin mostly by road from Frankfurt 3–6 days Jeddah to Germany shipping company
Italy Rome Fiumicino, and Milan Malpensa 3–6 days shipping from Jeddah to Italy
Netherlands Schiphol near Amsterdam 3–6 days Jeddah to Netherlands shipping company
Belgium Brussels, or Liège for cargo 3–6 days Jeddah to Belgium shipping company
Switzerland Geneva and Zurich 3–6 days Jeddah to Switzerland shipping company
Austria Vienna 3–7 days Jeddah to Austria shipping company
Sweden Arlanda near Stockholm, and Landvetter near Gothenburg 3–6 days Jeddah to Sweden shipping company
Denmark and Norway Copenhagen and Oslo, through a transit airport Usually 4–7 days Arranged on request

Countries not in the table, such as Portugal, Greece, Poland, Ireland and Czechia, are served on request. The shipment lands at the nearest hub airport and carries on by a short flight or by truck, and the time and price are set once we know the city. The other destinations are on the shipping destinations page.

Parcels, luggage and gifts by air from Jeddah to Europe

Parcels, luggage and gifts by air from Jeddah to Europe

Three things make up most of what leaves Jeddah for Europe in the name of individuals: a parcel from a family to their son, a suitcase the air ticket had no room for, and gifts an Umrah pilgrim bought in the markets of Makkah and Jeddah. What they share is that one mistake in preparing them stops them at an airport where the sender knows nobody. So we start at your home:

  • Collection from your address in Jeddah: the house, the office or the hotel, at a time you choose, with a receipt showing the number of pieces and their condition.
  • Secure packing before shipping: a double-wall carton, padding on every side, tape along the edges, and a sealed bag for anything that could leak.
  • Luggage: the suitcase is locked and wrapped in clear film, and a list of what is in it is written under the description “used personal effects”.
  • Gifts: every gift is listed by name and real value, and the dispatch is stated to be between two private persons free of charge, which is the condition for relief where relief exists.
  • What comes out of the parcel: Zamzam water, aerosols, loose batteries, and ghee, cheeses and dried meat.

Documents have a faster route of their own: an attested certificate a university has asked for, a contract awaiting a signature, or a medical report ahead of a treatment date. The envelope travels on the express service and is delivered by hand within two to four working days, and you receive the name of whoever signed for it. Papers carry no duty and no tax in any European country. The parcel service is detailed on the parcel shipping page.

Commercial air cargo from Jeddah to Europe for companies and factories

Commercial air cargo from Jeddah to Europe for companies and factories

A factory asks for the aircraft when a late shipment costs more than its freight: a sample a contract depends on, a first batch promised to a customer, or a part that puts a production line back to work. We collect the goods from the factory or the warehouse in the Jeddah industrial area, and the cartons are stacked on pallets and strapped, so that the pallet moves as one piece from your dock to the importer’s dock. This is what each type needs:

Type of shipment Preparation in Jeddah What is asked for on entering Europe
Commercial goods on pallets A pallet of heat-treated wood, with cartons that do not overhang its edges Invoice, packing list and the importer’s identification number
Samples for buyers and trade fairs A carton marked as a sample not for sale An invoice at the real value, and temporary admission for what will come back
Dates and packaged foods Sealed cartons kept at a moderate temperature A label in the country’s language, and the importer’s name and address
Medicines and preparations with a temperature range Insulated packaging and a temperature logger inside the shipment Import licences from the health authority of the country
Medical and laboratory devices A made-to-measure wooden crate and a shock indicator The European conformity mark in the member states, and the papers of the authorised importer

Temperature-sensitive shipments need arranging days ahead of the booking. We ask about the range required: chilled between two and eight degrees, or ambient between fifteen and twenty-five. We then book the cool room at Jeddah airport and at the arrival airport, and choose a flight that does not leave the shipment for hours on the ground at a transit airport. Dry ice, if it is used, is a declared substance with a weight limit per package.

We complete the shipment’s documents before the goods leave your warehouse: a commercial invoice, a packing list, a certificate of origin, and whatever conformity certificates the buyer asks for. The service for businesses is on the commercial shipping page.

Why do Jeddah’s shipments head for Europe?

Europe is one of the Kingdom’s largest trading partners, and between it and Jeddah there is a constant movement of people: students, patients, holidaymakers and business people, and Umrah and Hajj pilgrims from large Muslim communities in the UK, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. Every movement of people is followed by a movement of belongings. The European buyer also wants those Saudi products that fly easily: premium dates, oud and oriental perfumes under their shipping rules, and abayas and fashion.

The European market is an organised one: the rules are written down and the declaration is electronic. We advise anyone entering it for the first time to start with a small air sample that tests the buyer, the customs and the cost.

Carriers and flight options from Jeddah to Europe

A freight company does not own the aircraft. Its job is to pick a place for your shipment on the right carrier and to handle what comes before the aircraft and after it. Because we are not tied to one carrier, we compare each time what is available that week to the consignee’s country. There are four options from King Abdulaziz Airport:

Option How it works When we choose it
Hold of a direct passenger flight The shipment travels beneath the passenger cabin to the airport of the city itself When the destination is a city with a direct flight in operation
Flight through a hub airport It is transferred to a second aircraft at a Gulf, Turkish or European airport For cities with no direct flight, or when price matters more than a day
Freighter aircraft An aircraft with no passengers, a wide door and a floor built for loads For large pieces, declared goods and cars
Express network One party collects, flies, clears and delivers For an envelope or a parcel up to about 30 kg

The direct flights operating under the current schedule reach London, Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, Rome, Milan, Amsterdam, Madrid, Barcelona, Geneva and Zurich. Berlin is reached by direct flights on aircraft with a small hold, which we rely on for light parcels only. We tell you the actual routing and the entry airport on the day you book.

Documents required for air freight to Europe

In air freight the paperwork travels ahead of the goods: the declaration is sent to customs in the arrival country before the shipment has landed. So we ask for the complete documents at booking and check them in Jeddah. What is required follows the kind of shipment, not its size:

Shipment Required Note
Envelope of papers The sender’s ID, and the consignee’s full address with postcode and mobile number No invoice
Personal parcel or gift The sender’s ID, and a list of every item with its quantity and value Some countries ask for the consignee’s ID number or tax number
Student’s belongings Passport and visa, the offer letter, and the contents list Proof of study is attached to the declaration
Belongings of someone transferring residence Passport, proof of previous residence outside the country, a signed inventory, and the new tenancy contract The UK requires an approval issued before shipping
Goods and samples Commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin on request, and the importer’s identification number The tariff heading is written on the invoice

We issue the air waybill and the Saudi export declaration ourselves. Each paper and who issues it are explained on the required documents page.

What cannot be shipped by air to Europe: prohibited and restricted items

An air shipment is bound by two sets of limits: aviation safety, which is the same at every airport in the world, and the rules of the arrival country. In Europe the second set is similar across countries for animal products and counterfeit goods, and differs for medicines, bladed weapons and some foods. Most of what comes back from airport screening is not suspicious cargo but things from household drawers:

Item Ruling What should you do?
Power banks and loose batteries Not loaded as cargo on passenger aircraft Take them out of the parcel
A phone or laptop with its battery Accepted switched off and padded, in small numbers Put it on the list
Alcohol-based perfumes A flammable liquid, under a declaration and in limited packagings Commercial quantities by sea
Aerosols and pressurised containers Not allowed in an ordinary parcel Leave them out
Meat, dairy and their products Banned by European countries in personal consignments Do not ship
Medicines With a prescription and in a personal quantity Enclose the prescription
Counterfeit goods Confiscated, and the consignee may be fined Do not ship
Cash, gold and jewellery Not accepted in ordinary freight Valuables transport services

When you are unsure about an item, a photo of it and of its label on WhatsApp settles the matter before packing. The general list is on the prohibited items page.

European customs on air shipments: the EU member states and those outside

The first thing we establish is where the consignee’s country sits. The member states of the European Union form one customs territory: a common tariff and closely aligned relief rules, with a VAT rate set by each country. The UK, Switzerland and Norway are outside it, each with its own declaration and thresholds. In all of them the tax is calculated on the value of the goods plus the freight. These are the standard rates in current practice in the countries we ship to:

Country Customs position Standard VAT rate
Germany European Union 19%
France and Austria European Union 20%
Spain, the Netherlands and Belgium European Union 21%
Italy European Union 22%
Sweden and Denmark European Union 25%
UK Outside the Union 20%
Switzerland Outside the Union 8.1%
Norway Outside the Union 25%

This is how the most common cases are treated in current practice, and we confirm what is in force before every shipment because thresholds and rates are reviewed:

Case In the EU member states Outside the Union
Documents No duty and no tax The same
Gift between two private persons Relieved up to a value of 45 euros The UK up to 39 pounds, and Switzerland and Norway at their own limits
Low-value parcel of purchases VAT applies, and the duty relief below 150 euros has been amended The UK: no duty up to 135 pounds, with VAT still due
Commercial goods Duty according to the tariff heading, then tax on the total The country’s own tariff and tax
Belongings of an enrolled student Relieved on proof of study Relieved under each country’s conditions
Belongings of someone transferring residence Relieved for those who lived 12 months outside the Union and used their effects for 6 months The UK with prior approval, and Switzerland with the household effects form

A shipment is mostly cleared at its airport of entry. Whatever lands in Frankfurt and is released there carries on to Berlin or Hamburg as free goods with no second declaration. Whatever lands in Milan bound for southern Switzerland moves under a transit document and is cleared at its destination. The release steps are on the customs clearance page.

Delivering air freight from Jeddah in London, Paris, Berlin, Madrid, Rome and Amsterdam

Delivering air freight from Jeddah in London, Paris, Berlin, Madrid, Rome and Amsterdam

The six capitals take the larger share of what leaves Jeddah by air. In five of them the shipment lands at the city’s airport and is distributed mostly on the day after release. Berlin is different: Germany’s main cargo airport is in Frankfurt, so its shipments mostly arrive by truck from there. Delivery is to the address in all of them, against the consignee’s signature.

City Entry airport Time to the door What delivery needs
London Heathrow, west of the city 3–6 days The full postcode and a UK mobile number
Paris Charles de Gaulle, north-east of the city 3–6 days The building’s door code and the floor number
Berlin Frankfurt then about 550 km by road, or a flight through a transit airport 4–7 days The name as it appears on the doorbell and the letterbox
Madrid Barajas, north-east of the city 3–5 days The consignee’s ID number or foreigner’s number
Rome Fiumicino, on the coast west of the city 3–6 days The consignee’s tax code, and a permit to enter the old centre
Amsterdam Schiphol, south-west of the city 3–6 days The house number and its suffix, as numbers repeat along a street

The cities around them are served from these airports: Birmingham from London, Lyon and Marseille from Paris, Hamburg and Cologne from Frankfurt, and Rotterdam and The Hague from Schiphol. Villages and small towns have a day added. A local mobile number that the consignee answers cuts down delivery attempts.

Air freight or sea freight to Europe?

The alternative to the aircraft on this lane is the ship from Jeddah Islamic Port through the Suez Canal, and we do not rely on an overland route to Europe. Two figures settle the decision: the weight and the date. Anything under roughly two hundred kilograms that has a date belongs on the aircraft. Anything that runs to cubic metres and is not harmed by a month belongs in the container. Whatever falls between them we cost for you both ways.

Point of comparison Air freight Sea freight
Door-to-door time 3–6 days 12–20 days to Mediterranean ports, and 25–40 days to northern ports
Unit of charge The chargeable kilogram The cubic metre or the container
Price starts from SAR 23 per kilogram SAR 5,500 for a part load, and SAR 11,000 for a full container
Best suited to Parcels, luggage, documents and samples Household furniture, cars and heavy goods
Point of departure King Abdulaziz International Airport Jeddah Islamic Port

Sea freight, furniture and containers to the continent are covered in the article international shipping from Jeddah to Europe, the picture from every city in the Kingdom in the article shipping company from Saudi Arabia to Europe, and a table of all the methods on the shipping methods comparison page.

Car shipping by air from Jeddah to Europe

A car is shipped by aircraft in a handful of cases: a rare car invited to a show, a racing car with a date at a circuit, or a luxury car whose owner does not want it to spend weeks on the deck of a ship. It is secured by its wheels on an aircraft pallet and enters the freighter with its fuel at the minimum, as the carrier requires. Its rate is set on request once we know the length, width, height, weight and the airport intended.

Otherwise a car goes by sea: a saloon on a RoRo vessel from Jeddah Islamic Port starts from SAR 2,800. Bringing it into any European country is followed by a conformity inspection, registration and tax. The car service is on the car shipping page.

Additional services: packing, temporary storage and document preparation

Around the air freight charge is work that decides whether the shipment arrives intact and on time. We provide it with the freight or on its own:

  • Packing to aviation standards: a carton that withstands stacking, padding that stops movement, and a wooden crate for a valuable piece, without enlarging the volume needlessly.
  • Temporary storage: the shipment stays in a closed warehouse for some days until its papers are complete, its parts have come together or its flight date arrives.
  • Document preparation: the contents list and the invoice in English, the export declaration and the air waybill.
  • Answering enquiries: phone and WhatsApp from 7 am to 11 pm, and a message at every station the shipment passes.

How to pack each kind of item is in the packing guide.

Collection from Jeddah’s districts and nearby towns

The cargo village is north of the city, and Jeddah’s districts stretch south of it along the coast. We spread the collection rounds over that stretch and make the last one the nearest to the airport, so that the day’s shipments are in before acceptance closes. The neighbouring towns have set days in the week:

Area Examples How we collect
North Jeddah Obhur, Al-Mohammadiyah, Al-Basateen, Al-Naeem, Al-Murjan Close to the airport, collected on the last round
Central Jeddah Al-Rawdah, Al-Andalus, Al-Hamra, Al-Sharafiyah From houses, offices and consulates, by appointment
South Jeddah Al-Balad, Al-Kandarah, Ghulail, Al-Sanabel A small vehicle for the lanes and markets of Al-Balad
The industrial area and Al-Khumrah Factories and warehouses A truck with a tail lift for pallets, from the loading dock
Makkah Hotels of Umrah and Hajj pilgrims, about 80 km During truck entry hours, with tighter limits in the seasons
Taif, Rabigh and Thuwal About 80–170 km By prior appointment once or twice a week

For towns beyond these, see the service cities page; everything else we do in Jeddah is set out in the article international shipping companies in Jeddah.

  8. Take-off and delivery: you receive the air waybill and flight numbers, then the release notice, then the name of whoever signed for it.

Tracking and insuring an air shipment

An air shipment has its data read at every station, so its tracking is precise. Its compensation in the event of damage is limited unless insurance has been requested:

  • Two tracking numbers: the air waybill number as far as the arrival airport warehouse, then the distribution company’s number to the door. Follow it from the track your shipment page.
  • What the carrier guarantees: an amount per kilogram fixed by the international conventions; it stands without being requested, and is small against the value of a device or a sample.
  • What insurance guarantees: the declared value from collection to delivery, for a premium calculated as a percentage of it.
  • Terms: the expected time and the terms for amendment and cancellation are written in the booking confirmation you receive before collection.

Air freight from Europe to Jeddah

The lane works in both directions. From Europe to Jeddah come what individuals buy from shops, what companies import in spare parts, devices and preparations, and what a scholarship student brings back after graduating. Our partner in the European country collects from the address or receives the parcels from the shops, the shipment is flown to King Abdulaziz Airport, and we handle the clearance and the delivery.

  • New purchases: customs duty according to the item, and VAT at 15% in the Kingdom.
  • Commercial goods: some items need a Saudi conformity certificate before shipping, so we review them with you before you buy.
  • A returnee’s belongings: cleared as used personal effects against a contents list and a passport copy.

For the air service from the Kingdom’s other cities: air freight from Saudi Arabia.

Tips before shipping by air to Europe

The tips for this lane turn on one thing: knowing the consignee’s country well before you pack. What is right for Paris may not be right for London or Geneva.

  • Ask the consignee for the address as it is written in their country, letter by letter, and do not translate it into Arabic and back.
  • Find out whether the country is inside the European Union or outside it, as the papers and thresholds differ.
  • Separate new gifts from used belongings into two parcels, since each is treated differently.
  • Leave a two-day margin before any fixed date, such as a fair opening or the consignee’s travel date.

How do you choose an air freight company from Jeddah to Europe?

Price alone is not enough to judge by, because two offers at the same figure can differ in everything behind the figure. Look at what the company asks you and what it puts in writing, as that shows whether it knows the European lane or only sells a number:

Matter What reassures What calls for caution
Legal identity A stated commercial registration, a collection receipt and a written booking confirmation Dealing with no paper and a transfer to a personal account
Asking about the country It distinguishes the EU member states from the UK and Switzerland in papers and tax “Europe is all the same”
Weight It asks for dimensions and explains volumetric weight before the price A price on scale weight, then a difference after take-off
Where the service ends It names the entry airport, who clears and who pays the charges “To the door” with no detail at all

Common mistakes in air freight from Jeddah to Europe

  • Assuming the parcel arrives in a day because the flight is six hours, and then building an important date on that.
  • Estimating the freight on scale weight, although the rug and the toys are charged on their volume.
  • Writing “gift” on a parcel worth hundreds of euros in the hope of a relief that does not cover it.
  • Putting a perfume, an aerosol or a power bank among the clothes, so that the whole parcel is opened at screening.
  • Sending commercial goods to an importer who has not yet obtained a customs identification number.
  • Shipping a medicine with no prescription, or a medical device with no conformity papers.
  • Forgetting to tell the consignee about the shipment, so that the delivery company’s message is ignored and the parcel comes back.

Frequently asked questions about air freight from Jeddah to Europe

How much does air freight from Jeddah to Europe cost?

To the countries of the continent a chargeable kilogram starts from SAR 23, and to the UK from SAR 26. An envelope of papers of no more than one kilogram starts from SAR 83, and the smallest parcel, meaning anything up to 5 kg, from SAR 110. Tax and duty in the arrival country are not part of the freight. Give us the country, the city, the weight and the dimensions on 0552803439.

How many days does an air shipment need from Jeddah to Europe?

The flight itself is five to seven hours, but a shipment is not handed over the hour it lands. From your address in Jeddah to the consignee’s address in London, Paris, Rome or Amsterdam takes 3 to 6 days, with a day or two more for Berlin and the cities the shipment reaches by truck, and for the Scandinavian countries. An envelope of papers on the express service takes two to four working days.

Which European countries do you ship to by air from Jeddah?

The UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, Denmark and Norway, and others on request, such as Portugal, Greece, Poland and Ireland. Countries with no suitable flight from Jeddah are served through a nearby hub airport and then a truck or a short flight, and we name the routing before you pay.

Are there direct flights from Jeddah to European airports?

Yes, to a number of them. Under the current schedule, direct flights operate from King Abdulaziz Airport to London, Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, Rome, Milan, Amsterdam, Madrid, Barcelona, Geneva and Zurich. Berlin has direct flights on small aircraft, which we do not build a cargo date on. Schedules change between summer and winter, so we book on what is operating the week you ship.

What weight is an air shipment charged on?

On the chargeable weight, which is the higher of two figures: the scale reading, and the length times the width times the height in centimetres divided by 6000. A carton of toys measuring 60 × 40 × 40 cm and weighing 8 kg is charged as 16. Some express networks divide by 5000, which lifts the figure a little.

Is customs the same in every European country?

No. The member states of the European Union share one customs tariff and common relief rules, but the VAT rate differs from one country to the next. The UK, Switzerland and Norway are outside the Union, and each has its own customs, thresholds and tax. That is why we ask about the country before anything else.

Will my relative in Europe pay tax on a gift I send?

In current practice in the EU member states, a gift between two private persons, sent free of charge, is relieved if it is worth no more than 45 euros, and in the UK 39 pounds. Anything above that is charged VAT at the country’s rate, and duty may be added depending on the item. Switzerland and Norway have their own limits. We confirm the limit in force in the consignee’s country before dispatch.

Who settles the European charges: the sender or the consignee?

You decide when you book. By default the delivery company there asks the consignee for them before handing over, together with its fee for lodging the declaration. For anyone who wants the parcel to arrive with nothing to pay, we offer duties-paid delivery: we settle the charges for the consignee and they appear as a line on your invoice in Jeddah.

Can I send dates, coffee and spices by air to Europe?

Yes, in personal quantities. Dates in their sealed boxes, coffee, cardamom, spices and dry sweets are plant products that are admitted, and in current practice dates need no plant-health certificate in the European Union or in the UK. Meat, ghee, cheese and dried yoghurt are animal products and are confiscated at the arrival airport. Zamzam water is not shipped.

Do you accept perfume, incense and devices with batteries?

A mobile phone and a laptop are accepted with their batteries inside them, switched off and padded, and only a few to a parcel. A spare battery and a power bank are not loaded as cargo on a passenger aircraft. Alcohol-based perfume is a flammable liquid that only travels when declared, in limited packagings. Incense and alcohol-free oud oil are accepted once their details have been reviewed.

Do you ship medicines, medical devices and temperature-sensitive cargo?

Yes, by prior arrangement. A personal medicine travels with its prescription and in a quantity that covers its owner. A commercial shipment with a temperature range is prepared with insulated packaging and a temperature logger, and a cool-room slot is booked for it at both airports. A medical device enters the European Union with the European conformity mark and its importer’s papers. Prices for these shipments are set on request.

What is needed to send commercial goods on pallets to Europe?

A commercial invoice in English showing the tariff heading, the value and the delivery term, a packing list with the weight and dimensions of every pallet, a certificate of origin on request, and the importer’s customs identification number in their country. A wooden pallet must be of heat-treated wood bearing the international stamp. Send the dimensions before stacking, as the aircraft hold has a height limit.

Is insurance included in the rate per kilogram?

No. Under the international conventions the air carrier is liable for a limited amount calculated on the weight of the shipment, with no relation to what it cost. Insurance on the value is a separate, optional item, calculated as a percentage of what you declare, and it covers the journey from your door to the consignee’s door.

Can a car be shipped by air from Jeddah to Europe?

It can, for a rare, sports or classic car with a date at a show, a race or a handover to a buyer. It is secured on an aircraft pallet and loaded into a freighter, and its rate is set on request according to its dimensions and weight. An ordinary car goes by sea from Jeddah Islamic Port, and a saloon on a RoRo vessel starts from SAR 2,800.

Do you ship by air from Europe to Jeddah?

Yes. Our partner in the European country collects from the house, the shop or the supplier’s warehouse, the shipment lands at King Abdulaziz Airport, and we clear it and deliver it in your district. New goods carry the duty for the item and VAT at 15% in the Kingdom, while a returnee’s used belongings are cleared as personal effects against a contents list and a passport copy.
