Sea route: your location in Jeddah → Jeddah Islamic Port → Suez Canal → Mediterranean → Strait of Gibraltar → Atlantic coast → port of Abidjan → the consignee’s address · Time: 35–50 days by sea, 4–7 days by air.

In brief

  • What we ship: cars, trucks and equipment, commercial goods and spare parts, luggage, parcels and documents.
  • The two methods: sea from Jeddah Islamic Port by RoRo, full container or shared container, and air from King Abdulaziz Airport.
  • Port of arrival: Abidjan, and San-Pédro for the west of the country, then delivery to the consignee’s door.
  • The Jeddah advantage: the port is inside the city, so there is no long inland haul and the shipment enters the yard within one to three days.
  • Condition for cars: a private car must be no more than five years old, and we check that before you buy.
  • Starting prices: a car by sea from SAR 2,800, air from SAR 28 a kilogram, documents from SAR 83.
  • Booking: 0552803439 by phone or WhatsApp.

Who ships from Jeddah to Ivory Coast, and what do they send?

The Jeddah–Abidjan line is a trade route before it is a relocation route. Most of the demand comes from car exporters who buy from Jeddah’s showrooms and auctions and sell in Abidjan, the busiest market in French-speaking West Africa. Next come Ivorian importers buying from the Al-Balad markets and the wholesale market, then members of the Ivorian community living in Jeddah, then the Hajj and Umrah pilgrims who pass through the city every season.

Shipper Typical shipment Best method
Car exporter buying from Jeddah showrooms Recent cars no more than five years old RoRo, or a 40ft container for two cars
Spare-parts and tyre trader Japanese and Korean parts, tyres and oils Full container, or with the car in its container
Importer from Abidjan Perfumes, oud, fabrics, dates and Saudi products Shared or full container
Contractor or farmer A truck, bus, or construction or farm machine RoRo, or a flat rack for large machines
Ivorian resident returning home Furniture, appliances and luggage, sometimes with the car A container holding the belongings and the car
Hajj or Umrah pilgrim Suitcases, gifts and dates Air per kilogram, or a shared container
Company or office Documents, samples and an urgent spare part Express or air freight

The shipping route from Jeddah to Ivory Coast and how long it takes

The vessel leaves Jeddah Islamic Port northwards up the Red Sea, passes through the Suez Canal into the Mediterranean, then exits the Strait of Gibraltar into the Atlantic and heads south along the African coast to the Gulf of Guinea. As a rule no single ship covers the whole route. The container is moved at an intermediate port, usually one of the western Mediterranean hubs, onto a second vessel serving West Africa. That is why the time is counted in weeks and governed by the connection between the two ships.

Stage What happens Approximate time
Collection and preparation in Jeddah Survey, packing or documenting the car, loading 1–3 days
Jeddah Islamic Port Export declaration, entry to the yard, waiting for the vessel 2–5 days
Sailing with a change of vessel Suez, the Mediterranean, Gibraltar, the Atlantic 25–35 days
Port of Abidjan Discharge, matching the cargo tracking note, clearance 5–10 days
Delivery Truck to the address in Abidjan or an inland city 1–3 days

The overall time differs with the method you choose. Here are the four methods compared door to door:

Method Sailing or flight Door to door Suits
RoRo 25–35 days 35–48 days A running car or truck
Full container 25–35 days 35–48 days Two cars, or goods that fill a container
Shared container 28–38 days 40–50 days Anything under 15 cubic metres
Air to Abidjan airport One day with a stop 4–7 days Parcels, urgent parts and documents

What makes it take longer?

  • The connection: a container that arrives too late for its onward ship at the hub port stays there until the following departure, often a week later.
  • The cargo tracking note: a vessel arriving before the note is validated stops clearance and opens the door to a fine.
  • The chassis number: one different character between the registration and the bill of lading sends the car’s file back to the start.
  • French: the invoice and the packing list are read by customs in French, and an untranslated document waits.
  • The cocoa season: in the months when the crop is exported late in the year, the quays of Abidjan and San-Pédro get congested.
  • The consignee: a missing tax number or authorisation delays the release while storage is charged daily.

Sea freight from Jeddah to the port of Abidjan in Ivory Coast

The sea is the main route on this line, and almost all the cars and goods travel on it. Jeddah Islamic Port is the largest port on the Red Sea, and its berths handle container ships and RoRo vessels. The port of Abidjan sits on the Ébrié Lagoon and reaches the Atlantic through the Vridi Canal; it is the largest port in Ivory Coast, with more than one container terminal and a dedicated berth for rolling vehicles.

Sea freight from Jeddah to the port of Abidjan in Ivory Coast

The country has two seaports, and we choose between them by the consignee’s address and the type of shipment. Abidjan is the default; San-Pédro is an alternative for goods bound for the west, and a sailing to it is not available every week.

Port Location Suits Note
Abidjan South-east of the country on the Ébrié Lagoon Containers, cars and transit goods The main port, with most of the clearing agents
San-Pédro The western coast, about 340 km from Abidjan Containers for the west and farm equipment We book to it when a suitable sailing exists

Container sizes and what they hold are on the container sizes page, and you can work out your volume in cubic metres with the CBM calculator. The sea service from the city is detailed in the article international sea freight from Jeddah.

Shipping prices from Jeddah to Ivory Coast

The prices below are where our services start on this line, and they are the prices of our main article on shipping from the Kingdom to Ivory Coast, unchanged. The car price covers the sea freight from the Jeddah quay to the Abidjan quay. Ivorian customs duties and taxes are paid there to the authorities and are not part of the freight.

Service Price Charged per
Saloon car by RoRo Starts from SAR 2,800 One running car
Air freight Starts from SAR 28 a kilogram Chargeable weight
Express parcel up to 5 kg Starts from SAR 110 Parcel
Express documents up to one kilogram Starts from SAR 83 Envelope
Full 20ft or 40ft container Set on request The container and the sailing date
Shipment in a shared container Set on request Cubic metre
4×4, truck or machine Set on request Length, width and height
Delivery inside Ivory Coast Set on request City and volume

Prices quoted in the market: we looked for published prices for the Jeddah–Abidjan line and found no company publishing a figure for this particular route, and the previous article on our site gave no figures either. The only published figures close to it concern car exports from Gulf ports to Abidjan: between USD 1,300 and 2,000 for a car on RoRo, and between USD 2,200 and 3,800 for a car inside a container. Those are figures for another port and another service, so take them as a general reference and not as the price of your shipment.

What sets the price How it affects it
Shipping method RoRo is cheaper for a single car; a container costs more, protects more, and its share drops with two cars
Vehicle class and dimensions A 4×4 or a truck takes more space on the vessel, so it costs more than a saloon
Vehicle age It does not change the sea freight, but it decides whether the vehicle gets in at all and affects what is paid on it in Abidjan
Collection point Inside Jeddah the difference between districts is small because the port is close; nearby towns carry a surcharge stated in the price
Extra services Insurance, full packing and temporary storage are optional items written separately
Cargo tracking note and Ivorian charges The fee for the note follows the type of shipment, and customs there assess duties by class and value
Final destination Abidjan, an inland city, or transit to a neighbouring country

How do you cut the cost?

  • Ask about the car’s eligibility before you buy it; no loss is bigger than a car that arrives and cannot be cleared.
  • Ship a single running car by RoRo and keep the container for a luxury or non-running one.
  • Put two cars in a 40ft container, or fill your car’s container with documented spare parts.
  • Deliver the shipment to the preparation area near the port yourself if you wish, and the collection charge drops out.
  • Have your consignee and his tax number ready before the vessel berths so storage charges do not build up.

What goes into a price is explained on the pricing factors page.

What sets shipping from Jeddah apart on the Abidjan line?

A Saudi shipment bound for West Africa passes through Jeddah Islamic Port whichever city it comes from, because the port lies on the Suez Canal route. Someone who lives in Jeddah starts at the point others reach after a day or two on the road. A car bought in the morning from a showroom or an auction in the south of the city can enter the port yard the same day if its papers are complete. Goods gathered from the Al-Balad market or the wholesale market are packed in the nearby preparation area and loaded with no overland trip added to the invoice.

That closeness has a second effect, on time. If the vessel is late or its date changes, your shipment is not stuck on a truck on the road; it is either in our warehouse or in the port yard. The airport is inside the city too, so an air parcel is handed to the cargo village on the day it is collected. We have reviewed the shipping companies working in the city in the article international shipping companies in Jeddah.

Shipping cars and commercial goods from Jeddah to Ivory Coast

Cars are the first cargo on this line, followed by traders’ goods, and each leaves Jeddah in a different way. A running car boards the RoRo vessel under its own power, or goes into a closed container and is secured by all four wheels. Goods are stacked on wooden pallets, wrapped in film and then loaded into the container. Before any of that, one question governs car shipping to Ivory Coast: how old is the car?

Shipping cars and commercial goods from Jeddah to Ivory Coast

Year of manufacture before you buy: Ivory Coast sets a maximum age for imported used vehicles, and the rule applied is five years for a private car. Send us the model and the date of first registration on 0552803439 before you pay the showroom or the auction, and we will tell you whether the car can enter Abidjan or not.

Vehicle class Maximum age applied on import
Private cars and taxis 5 years
Minibuses of 9 to 34 seats and light trucks under 5 tonnes 7 years
Trucks over 5 tonnes and buses over 34 seats 10 years

Age is counted from the date the vehicle was first registered in its country, and it is assessed when the vehicle reaches the port. A car with two months left before the limit may pass it while at sea. That is why we advise a safety margin: choose a model with a year or more between it and the limit. These limits are issued by government decision and are reviewed, so we confirm the current ones before every shipment. Ivory Coast drives on the same side as the Kingdom, with the steering wheel on the left, so the car needs no conversion to be registered.

On the car there you pay a customs duty under the common external tariff of the West African states, value added tax of 18%, and other charges, calculated on a value assessed by Ivorian customs and not on the purchase invoice alone. We give you an estimate before shipping so that you know the full cost of the car. The general conditions for exporting a car from the Kingdom are in the article car shipping from Saudi Arabia, and our service in the city is in the article car shipping company in Jeddah.

RoRo or container for your car?

A car has two ways off the Jeddah quay. RoRo is cheaper and simpler, and it carries cars, buses and trucks that move under their own power. A closed container costs more, but it protects a luxury or new car, accepts a non-running one, and lets documented goods travel with the car. Your choice follows the number of cars, their condition and whether anything goes with them.

Point of comparison RoRo Closed container
How it is loaded A driver takes it into the vessel’s hold, where it is lashed It enters the container, is secured by all four wheels and sealed
Suits One running car, a bus, a truck A luxury or non-running car, or two cars in a 40ft
Price A saloon from SAR 2,800 Set on request
Items with the car Nothing is left in it except its original equipment Spare parts and goods on a written list
Protection from weather and salt The hold is covered and the car is uncovered inside it Closed and sealed from Jeddah to Abidjan

Both methods are explained on the RoRo shipping and car in a container pages, and our article sea car shipping from Jeddah sets out what happens at the port.

How do we prepare your car in Jeddah for the voyage to Abidjan?

Preparation begins with documentation. We photograph the body from every side, the cabin, the odometer and any existing scratch, and the photographs are kept with the shipment file. Those photographs are the reference the car is checked against on the day it is handed over in Abidjan. A short technical check follows: the fuel is brought down to about a quarter of a tank, we make sure there is no oil leak, the alarm is disconnected and loose parts are fixed. The cabin is emptied of everything except the spare wheel and the original tool kit.

In a container the car is strapped down at all four wheels, wooden chocks are placed in front of and behind the tyres, and the battery is disconnected. If spare parts travel with it, a wooden partition goes between them and the car. Then we go through the papers character by character: the chassis number, the date of first registration and the specifications on the registration must match what is written on the bill of lading and the cargo tracking note. On the Saudi side the car leaves with an export certificate from the traffic department once its fines are paid and its plates handed in, and we go through that with you or complete it under your authorisation. The full procedure is in the car shipping guide.

Shipping trucks, buses and construction and farm machinery

Ivory Coast has active construction and farming sectors, which is why Jeddah is asked to ship trucks, tippers, buses, excavators and tractors. A vehicle that runs under its own power boards the RoRo vessel like a car, and its price is worked out on its length, width and height. A machine that does not move, or is larger than a container, is loaded on a flat rack and chained down. The age limit applies to trucks and buses as well, seven or ten years depending on the class, so we check it before booking. Details of this service are on the heavy equipment shipping page.

Shipping goods from Jeddah’s markets to Abidjan, and packing them

An Ivorian trader buys in Jeddah what he knows will sell at home: Japanese and Korean spare parts and tyres, perfumes, oud and incense, fabrics and abayas, dates and Saudi food products. We gather the goods from more than one supplier in the city, sort them in our warehouse and prepare a single file for them. Ivorian customs examine paperwork more closely than many of their neighbours, so what is prepared in Jeddah decides how quickly the goods are released in Abidjan.

  • Documents: commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, bill of lading and cargo tracking note, all in French or with a translation.
  • Import declaration form: the Ivorian importer obtains it on his side before shipment for commercial goods above a certain value, and we ask for its number for the tracking-note file.
  • Certificate of conformity: for items on the list of regulated products, issued by an approved inspection body before sailing.
  • Dates and food: with a label in French, a visible expiry date and a health certificate.
  • Perfumes: flammable liquids, so they go by sea under their correct declaration and are never hidden among fabrics.

Packing on this line is built around two things: the length of the voyage and the humidity of the Gulf of Guinea. The container is lifted and set down more than once at the transhipment port, so cartons are stacked on heat-treated wooden pallets stamped ISPM 15 and wrapped in film, with the heavy items at the bottom and the gaps filled. Fabrics go into breathable bags so that five weeks of damp do not leave them mouldy. Appliances are dried and wrapped in more than one layer. Moisture-absorbing bags are hung in the container. Every carton carries a number that matches a line on the packing list. The method is explained on the packing and lashing and commercial shipping pages.

Full or shared container from Jeddah port?

The answer is set by the volume of your goods. A full container is yours alone: it is loaded in front of you in Jeddah, sealed, and opened only in Abidjan. A shared container brings together the shipments of several traders at the consolidation warehouse; you pay only for your cubic metres, but it is slower because it waits until it is full and is then sorted on arrival. If your volume is close to 15 cubic metres, compare the two prices, as a 20ft container may work out cheaper.

Point of comparison Full container Shared container
For whom A trader filling a 20ft or 40ft, or a car with goods Cartons and pallets under 15 cubic metres
Charging One price for the container Per cubic metre
Door-to-door time 35–48 days 40–50 days
Handling One loading and one unloading Consolidation in Jeddah and sorting in Abidjan

Shipping furniture and the belongings of people returning to Ivory Coast

An Ivorian resident who has finished working in Jeddah usually ships household appliances, soft furnishings and clothes, and only a few ship large bedroom suites. We dismantle the pieces, wrap and number them, and write a detailed inventory in French, because customs there ask for it in that language. New electrical appliances, or ones only a few months old, travel with their invoices; otherwise they are treated as new goods and higher charges are paid on them.

The practice is that a person returning to live there presents a change-of-residence certificate, issued by his country’s embassy or consulate, with the passport, the inventory, the bill of lading and the cargo tracking note. Used belongings are charged at a reduced rate compared with new ones. These conditions are set by Ivorian customs and may change, so we confirm the current ones before loading. How furniture is prepared is on the furniture shipping and packing guide pages.

Hajj and Umrah luggage, parcels and documents

Jeddah is the gateway for Ivory Coast’s Hajj and Umrah pilgrims: they land there and leave from there. Many of them buy gifts, dates, prayer rugs and clothes that exceed the airline allowance. We collect those suitcases and cartons from the accommodation in Jeddah or Makkah and send them by air per kilogram from SAR 28 to Abidjan airport, so they arrive a few days after their owner. For anyone who has bought a large quantity we add it to a shared container by sea. Please note that Zamzam water is not shipped as cargo; the traveller’s dedicated pack goes with him on his flight.

A small parcel of up to 5 kg goes by express from SAR 110, and an envelope of documents of up to one kilogram from SAR 83. This service suits contracts, certificates, trade samples and an urgent spare part. Write the consignee’s name on the parcel as it appears on his ID, with his Ivorian phone number, and declare the contents and value accurately. Details are on the parcel shipping page.

The cargo tracking note, customs and the documents required

What sets Ivory Coast apart from most of our destinations is a document called the cargo tracking note, abbreviated BSC. It is an electronic record the Ivorian authorities require for every sea shipment discharged in Abidjan or San-Pédro, showing the shipper, the consignee, the goods, their value and the freight paid. It is obtained after the bill of lading is issued and before the vessel arrives, with the export declaration and the invoice uploaded for it. A shipment that berths without it is not cleared until its fine is settled, and storage is charged meanwhile. The practice is that this document is not required for air freight.

Ivory Coast is a member of the Economic Community of West African States and of the West African Economic and Monetary Union, so the common external tariff applies to imports. Clearance needs an approved clearing agent and a tax number for the consignee. This is what we ask you for with each type of shipment:

Type of shipment Documents
Car or truck Registration showing the date of first registration, export certificate from the traffic department, purchase invoice, shipper’s ID, bill of lading, cargo tracking note
Commercial goods Commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, the importer’s import declaration number, bill of lading, cargo tracking note, certificate of conformity where required
Furniture and a returnee’s belongings Passport, change-of-residence certificate, inventory in French, invoices for new appliances, bill of lading, cargo tracking note
Transit shipment The commercial documents, with the final country and city stated on the bill of lading
Parcel or air shipment Copy of ID or passport, statement of contents and value, an invoice if it is commercial

Our shipping documents page goes through these papers one by one, and the customs clearance page covers the work done in Jeddah and in Abidjan.

What cannot be shipped from Jeddah to Ivory Coast, or needs a permit

What is barred on this line falls into three kinds: what the Kingdom does not allow out, what Ivory Coast does not allow in, and what the sea or air carrier refuses because it is dangerous. What gets turned back most here is a vehicle over the age limit, or belongings left inside a car on RoRo. Send us your list before packing and we will point out what needs a permit and what has an alternative.

Item Ruling
A vehicle over the age limit for its class We do not ship it, as it cannot be cleared in Abidjan
Belongings inside a RoRo car Not allowed; the cabin travels empty
Weapons, ammunition and narcotics Prohibited
Counterfeit goods Confiscated
Medicines With a licence and documents; a personal quantity with a prescription
Food and dates With a health certificate and a label in French; perishables do not go by sea
Flammable materials, perfumes and batteries By sea under a dangerous-goods declaration, by air under strict conditions
Cash, gold and original documents They stay with the traveller and never go in a container
Zamzam water Not shipped as cargo

The general list is on the prohibited items page.

Delivery of shipments from Jeddah in Abidjan and San-Pédro

Our work ends with the consignee, not at the quay. Once the container or the car is discharged in Abidjan, the clearing agent we work with matches the cargo tracking note and pays the charges set by customs from the consignee’s account, and the shipment is released. In Abidjan itself it is delivered to the districts of Cocody, Marcory, Plateau, Yopougon and Treichville and to the industrial zone. A shipment discharged in San-Pédro is cleared there and distributed across the west of the country. A car is handed over against the Jeddah photographs, to its owner or to someone he has authorised in writing.

Delivery of shipments from Jeddah in Abidjan and San-Pédro
City Approximate distance from Abidjan How it is delivered
Abidjan Within the city Delivery to the address or collection from the port
Yamoussoukro About 240 km Truck after clearance
San-Pédro About 340 km Direct from its own port, or by truck from Abidjan
Bouaké About 350 km Truck after clearance
Daloa About 380 km Truck after clearance
Korhogo About 570 km Truck after clearance

The inland delivery charge is set on request and written as a separate item. Destination information is on the shipping to Ivory Coast page, and what the full service means is on the door-to-door shipping page.

Transit from Abidjan to Mali and Burkina Faso

Mali and Burkina Faso have no coastline, and Abidjan is one of the nearest large ports to them. Some Jeddah traders sell to buyers in Ouagadougou or Bamako, so the container is shipped to Abidjan and continues overland. The final country and city are written on the bill of lading in Jeddah, the container crosses Ivory Coast under a transit document and guarantee with no Ivorian duties paid on it, and it is cleared in its own country. A railway links Abidjan with Ouagadougou. The time for this leg and the state of the roads change, so we confirm them when you book.

Destination Means from Abidjan Approximate distance
Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso Rail or truck About 800 km
Bamako, Mali Truck About 1,100 km
Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso Rail or truck About 1,150 km

Air freight from Jeddah to Ivory Coast

The aircraft cuts five weeks at sea to less than a week. The shipment leaves the cargo village at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah and reaches Félix Houphouët-Boigny Airport in Abidjan within 4 to 7 days including clearance. There is no direct flight between the two cities, so the shipment changes aircraft at an intermediate airport. The air distance is about 5,000 km. This method is for parcels and light, high-value goods: a spare part a workshop is waiting for, a trader’s samples, a pilgrim’s luggage, the documents of a deal. Delivery in Abidjan is from the airport or to the address.

Air freight from Jeddah to Ivory Coast
Item Detail
Airport of departure King Abdulaziz International Airport, Jeddah
Airport of arrival Félix Houphouët-Boigny International Airport, Abidjan
Door-to-door time 4–7 days with a stop at an intermediate airport
Price Starts from SAR 28 a kilogram and falls as the weight rises
Small parcels and documents A parcel up to 5 kg from SAR 110, documents from SAR 83
What it does not suit Cars, machinery and heavy goods, and perfumes and batteries except under conditions

The price is charged on the chargeable weight, which is the greater of the scale weight and the volumetric weight, so a roomy, light carton of gifts is charged by its size. Work it out before packing with the volumetric weight calculator. The service is detailed on the air freight page and in the article air freight office in Jeddah.

Collection from Jeddah’s districts and nearby towns

Our collection teams cover Jeddah from Obhur in the north to Al-Khumrah in the south. We take a car from your home, the showroom or the auction yard, on a flatbed carrier if it has no plates. We gather goods from the shops of Al-Balad, the wholesale market and the warehouses in the south of the city.

Area Examples Note
North Jeddah Obhur, Al-Hamdaniyah, Al-Mohammadiyah, Al-Naeem, Al-Salamah Collection from houses and flats on the day of the request or the next
Central Jeddah Al-Rawdah, Al-Safa, Al-Aziziyah, Al-Balad, Al-Kandarah Market goods gathered, with a small vehicle for narrow lanes
South Jeddah Al-Khumrah, Al-Sanabel, the industrial area, the car showrooms Close to the port and the preparation area
Makkah About 80 km Pilgrims’ luggage from the accommodation; trucks enter at regulated hours
Taif and Bahrah Taif about 170 km Closed truck to Jeddah
Thuwal, Rabigh and King Abdullah Economic City 80–150 km to the north With a surcharge stated in the price
Madinah and Yanbu 330–420 km Truck to Jeddah port by prior appointment

The other cities we collect from are on the cities page. Anyone waiting for a sailing date or for the rest of his goods can leave them in our warehouse; details are on the storage page.

Steps for shipping from Jeddah to Ivory Coast

  1. You send us what you want to ship and the Ivorian city, and for a car its model and date of first registration.
  2. We check the age limit, whether the goods need a certificate of conformity, and estimate the charges expected in Abidjan.
  3. You receive the price broken down: sea or air freight, services in Jeddah, and what is paid there.
  4. We collect from your location or the showroom, and document the car in photographs or pack and number the goods.
  5. We complete the export declaration and the car’s export certificate from the traffic department, and the shipment enters Jeddah Islamic Port.
  6. The vessel sails and the bill of lading is issued, then we obtain the cargo tracking note against its number.
  7. We send the full set of documents to the clearing agent in Abidjan before the vessel arrives.
  8. The shipment is cleared and handed to the consignee against the photographs, or continues in transit.

There are three ways to order the service: a call to 0552803439, a WhatsApp message to the same number with photographs and details of the shipment, or the request form on the site. The types of shipping we offer are compared on the shipping methods comparison page.

Tracking, insurance and customer service

With the booking you receive the container number or the bill of lading number, and with it you follow the vessel on the shipping line’s website. We send you a message at every stage: preparation complete, entry to Jeddah port, sailing and the vessel’s name, arrival at and departure from the transhipment port, berthing in Abidjan, validation of the cargo tracking note, release, and then signed delivery.

Insurance is optional and calculated as a percentage of the declared value. We recommend it on this line because the voyage lasts more than a month and includes handling at an intermediate port. Our team answers the phone and WhatsApp from 7 am to 11 pm Saudi time. Abidjan is three hours behind Jeddah, so that period covers the whole working day there. Both services are detailed on the track your shipment and cargo insurance pages.

Shipping from Ivory Coast to Jeddah

The reverse direction is less in demand and has its own customers: a Saudi returning from a job in Abidjan, or a trader importing processed cocoa, coffee, cashew nuts or timber. Our partner collects the shipment there, and the container sails from Abidjan to Jeddah Islamic Port or the goods fly to King Abdulaziz Airport; we clear them in Jeddah and deliver. The price for this direction is set on request.

A case that recurs on this line

A customer calls us after paying a deposit on a car at a Jeddah showroom, wanting to ship it to a relative in Abidjan. We ask for the date of first registration, and it turns out that the car is a few months past the five-year limit. Had it been shipped, it would have arrived six weeks later at a port that would not release it, and its owner would have paid the sea freight, the storage and the cost of sending it back or selling it at a loss. The answer in such a case is to swap it for a model a year or two newer before the sale is completed.

Tips before shipping from Jeddah to Ivory Coast

  • Do not pay for a car before we have matched its date of first registration against the age limit.
  • Leave at least a year between the car’s age and the limit; the sea takes six weeks of it.
  • Fill the car’s container with spare parts documented on the list, as they are goods in demand in Abidjan.
  • Agree with your consignee on his clearing agent and tax number before the vessel sails.
  • Translate the invoice and the packing list into French in Jeddah, not at the port there.
  • Plan your commitments around 35 to 50 days, not around the shortest figure you have heard.
  • Avoid having your goods arrive at the peak of the cocoa season if the date is flexible.

How do you choose a shipping company from Jeddah to Ivory Coast?

This is not a line for trial and error, because a mistake on it shows up six weeks later and at a distant port. So test the company with questions about Ivory Coast itself before you ask about the price. Someone who knows the line will ask you first about the age of the car and about your consignee.

What you ask about A reassuring answer An answer that calls for caution
The age of the car Asks for the date of first registration before pricing “We ship any model”
The cargo tracking note Obtains it and states its fee in the price Does not know it, or says it is up to the consignee
How the car is described on paper Matches the chassis number and specifications to the registration A rough description to be corrected later
The price Itemised: sea freight, Jeddah services, an estimate of what is paid there One figure whose other half appears in Abidjan
Where his responsibility ends On delivery to the consignee through a known clearing agent At the Jeddah quay
The time Mentions the change of vessel and gives a range in weeks “Two weeks and it is there”

Common mistakes when shipping from Jeddah to Ivory Coast

  • Buying the car first and asking about its entry conditions afterwards.
  • Working out the car’s age on the day of shipment and forgetting the weeks at sea.
  • Leaving suitcases or spare parts inside a car shipped by RoRo.
  • Letting the shipment sail with no cargo tracking note arranged, and waiting for the consignee to obtain it.
  • Writing “assorted spare parts” on the list instead of describing each item and its quantity.
  • Sending perfumes or batteries by air without declaring them.
  • Comparing a price that ends at the Abidjan quay with one that includes clearance and delivery.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Jeddah to Ivory Coast

How much does shipping from Jeddah to Ivory Coast cost?

A running saloon car on a RoRo vessel starts from SAR 2,800 from the Jeddah quay to the Abidjan quay. An air kilogram starts from SAR 28, an express parcel of up to 5 kg from SAR 110 and an envelope of documents from SAR 83. The container and the cubic metre in a shared container follow the sailing date, and we send that price on the day you ask on 0552803439.

I want to buy a car from a Jeddah showroom and ship it to Abidjan. Where do I start?

Start with a WhatsApp message giving the model and the date of first registration, before you pay any deposit. We match the date against the five-year limit applied in Ivory Coast and count the weeks at sea with it. If the car qualifies we send you the RoRo price and the container price; if not, we advise a newer year of manufacture.

How long is the car at sea between Jeddah and Abidjan?

The sailing itself takes 25 to 35 days because the cargo changes vessel at an intermediate port before heading down to the Gulf of Guinea. Add the preparation days in Jeddah and the clearance days in Abidjan and the total is 35 to 48 days from the day we collect the car until it leaves the port there.

Is shipping from Jeddah cheaper than from another Saudi city?

Usually yes. Every Saudi shipment to West Africa sails from Jeddah Islamic Port, so someone who lives in Jeddah does not pay for a truck covering hundreds of kilometres to the port. The shipment also enters the port yard within one to three days of collection.

What is the maximum age for a car shipped to Ivory Coast?

The rule applied is five years for private cars and taxis, seven years for minibuses and light trucks, and ten years for heavy trucks and large buses. Age is counted from the date the vehicle was first registered, not from the date you bought it. These limits can be amended, so we check the current ones before every shipment.

Can I ship two cars together from Jeddah?

Yes. A 40ft container takes two mid-sized cars lashed by the wheels, and its freight is divided between them, so each car’s share is lower than a 20ft container on its own. For car traders who ship by RoRo every month we arrange a standing booking. The container price is set on request.

What is the cargo tracking note and who obtains it?

It is an electronic document Ivory Coast requires for every sea shipment discharged in Abidjan or San-Pédro, known there by the letters BSC. It is obtained after the bill of lading is issued and before the vessel berths, by uploading the invoice, the bill of lading and the export declaration. We obtain it as part of your shipment file and do not leave it to the consignee.

Do my goods need a certificate of conformity before shipping?

Commercial goods on the list of regulated products need one when the shipment value exceeds a set threshold, and an approved inspection body issues it before sailing. The practice is that personal effects, used cars and trade samples fall outside this programme. Send us the description and value of the goods and we will tell you whether they are covered.

Do you ship the luggage of Ivorian Hajj and Umrah pilgrims from Jeddah?

Yes, and it is among the things we ship most in the seasons. We collect suitcases and cartons from the pilgrim’s accommodation in Jeddah or Makkah and send them by air per kilogram from SAR 28 to Abidjan airport, or by sea in a shared container for those who have bought a lot. Zamzam water is not included in the shipment.

Which port will my shipment arrive at?

The port of Abidjan in most cases: it has the container terminals, the RoRo berth and most of the clearing agents. The port of San-Pédro in the west is an option when the goods are bound for that region, and we book to it when a suitable sailing exists. We write the name of the port in the price before booking.

Do you deliver to cities inside Ivory Coast?

Yes. After clearance the shipment travels by truck to Yamoussoukro, Bouaké, Daloa, Korhogo and other towns. The charge for this inland leg is set on request according to the city and the volume. Anyone who prefers to collect from the port or from the clearing agent’s warehouse in Abidjan can do so.

Can a shipment transit from Abidjan to Mali or Burkina Faso?

Yes. The final city is written on the bill of lading in Jeddah, and the container crosses Ivory Coast under a transit document and guarantee, by rail or truck to Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso and by truck to Bamako. Customs duties are paid in the country of arrival, not in Abidjan.

What cannot be shipped to Ivory Coast?

Vehicles over the age limit, weapons and ammunition, narcotics, counterfeit goods and unlicensed medicines. Food and dates enter with their health certificates and a label in French. Perfumes and batteries board an aircraft only under conditions, so they go by sea.

Is there land freight from Jeddah to Ivory Coast?

No. Between Jeddah and Abidjan lie a sea and a whole continent, and there is no regular overland route that we rely on. Trucks work for us at the two ends only: from your location in Jeddah to the port or the airport, and from the port of Abidjan to the consignee’s address.

How do I track my shipment, and is it insured?

You follow it by the container number or the bill of lading number on the shipping line’s website, and you receive a message from us at every stage until delivery. Insurance is optional and calculated as a percentage of the value you declare; we recommend it for cars and commercial goods because the voyage is long and includes a change of vessel.
