Who ships from Madinah to Libya, and what do they ship?
Most of those who ask about this route are Libyans living in Madinah or visiting it. One is a family that has finished its working years and wants to move its whole home; another is a student who has completed his studies and has books and belongings; another is a visitor or pilgrim who bought more than the plane will carry. Others are car buyers who found what suits them in Madinah’s showrooms, and traders who buy dates from its central market. Each of them needs a different shipping method, summarised here:
| Shipper | What they ship | Most suitable method |
|---|---|---|
| A returning Libyan family | A full home’s furniture, appliances and sometimes a car | A 20ft or 40ft container loaded at the door |
| A student or an employee whose contract has ended | Books, clothes and personal devices | Part-load sea freight by the carton or cubic metre |
| A visitor or pilgrim | Excess bags, gifts and cartons of dates | Consolidated freight, or air for what is wanted quickly |
| A car buyer | A car from a showroom or its owner | A shared container with racks, or RoRo |
| A dates and foodstuffs trader | Ajwa, Safawi and Sukkari by the pallet | A full container, refrigerated in summer |
| A company or official body | Equipment, office furniture and documents | Container or air, depending on urgency |
Route and transit time from Madinah to Libya
There is no continuous road between the Kingdom and Libya: the Red Sea and then Egypt lie between them. So most of what is shipped from Madinah travels by sea. The truck leaves Madinah for the port on the Red Sea coast, the ship then heads north to the Suez Canal and enters the Mediterranean, and it berths at the Libyan port nearest the consignee. The time we quote is counted from your door in Madinah to the consignee’s door, not from the moment of sailing. These are its stages:
| Stage | What happens | Approximate time |
|---|---|---|
| Loading in Madinah | Packing, inventory and loading the container or truck at your door | Usually one day |
| Haulage to the port | A truck to Jeddah port or Yanbu port | Hours to a day |
| Export and port entry | Export clearance and waiting for the vessel’s date | 2 to 4 days |
| Sailing | The Red Sea, then the Suez Canal, then the Mediterranean | 10 to 20 days |
| Clearance in Libya | Customs declaration, inspection and payment of duties | Days, depending on the port and how complete the file is |
| Delivery inside Libya | A truck from the port to the consignee’s city | A day or more, depending on distance |
The sea is not the only way. There is a land route on which the truck boards the Red Sea ferry and crosses Egypt, and there is air for what cannot wait. Two methods can be combined in one shipment, for example furniture by sea and documents and medicines by air. All the methods are compared in this table:
| Method | Approximate time | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Sea, full container | 14–30 days | A whole home’s furniture, cars and commercial containers |
| Sea, consolidated part load | 20–40 days | Cartons and one or two rooms when there is no hurry |
| RoRo for vehicles | 15–30 days | Running cars, trucks and equipment |
| Land across Egypt | 10–20 days | Medium furniture loads, and cargo bound for eastern Libya |
| Air | 2–7 days | Medicines, spare parts, documents and urgent parcels |
What lengthens the time?
- Waiting for consolidation: a shared container does not move until it is full.
- The vessel’s date: missing a sailing means waiting for the next, which is why we book before loading.
- Transhipment: some lines move the container to another vessel at an intermediate Mediterranean port.
- An incomplete file: an error in the invoice or the list of contents halts clearance in Libya.
- Madinah’s seasons: Ramadan and Hajj add pressure on trucks, roads and ports.
Yanbu or Jeddah: which port does your shipment leave from?
Everyone who ships from Madinah asks this, because Yanbu is clearly nearer. The answer is that nearness alone is not enough. A port is chosen by the sailing available from it, not by the distance to it. Jeddah Islamic Port is the Kingdom’s largest on the Red Sea, and most container lines and car carriers bound for the Mediterranean call there, so sailing from it to the Libyan ports is the norm. Yanbu has a commercial port and an industrial port, and its container services are regional, linking it with Jeddah and the ports of the northern Red Sea. So we use it when it has a sailing that suits your type of shipment and your date, and we do not promise it before we have checked the schedule.
| Comparison | Jeddah Islamic Port | Yanbu port |
|---|---|---|
| Distance from Madinah | About 420 km | About 220 km |
| Sailings to the Mediterranean | Many and regular | Limited, and confirmed for each shipment |
| Car shipping | Containers and RoRo | When a suitable vessel is available |
| Inland haulage charge | Higher, as the road is longer | Lower, as the port is near |
| When we choose it | For most shipments | When it truly saves time or cost |
Either way nothing changes for you. We book the space on the vessel before loading day, tell you the name of the port and the expected sailing date, and the inland haulage appears as a clear line in the price. Port details are on the ports and gateways page, and the sea service is in the article international sea freight from Jeddah.
Shipping prices from Madinah to Libya
The price on this route has three parts: haulage from Madinah to the port, then the sea, land or air freight, then the services in Libya if you ask for delivery to the door. The prices below are those from which our services to Libya from the western region start. The inland haulage from Madinah to the port is added to them, and it follows the volume of the shipment and the port chosen:
| What you ship | Method | Price starts from |
|---|---|---|
| A carton | Consolidated sea or land freight | SAR 140 |
| Per kilogram above 100 kg | Consolidated freight | SAR 5.5 per kilogram |
| A cubic metre | Part-load sea freight | SAR 415 |
| A small load | Minimum per shipment | SAR 1,380 |
| A bedroom | Part load | SAR 1,650 |
| A small car | Shared container or RoRo | SAR 3,220 |
| 20ft container | Full container | SAR 4,600 |
| 40ft container | Full container | SAR 5,200 |
| Air freight | From Madinah or Jeddah airport | SAR 28 per kilogram |
| Documents | Express | SAR 83 |
| Haulage from Madinah to the port | Truck or car transporter | Set on request, by volume and port |
Prices circulating in the market for shipping from the Kingdom to Libya are higher than that: a carton between SAR 150 and 350, a kilogram for large loads between SAR 6 and 9, a cubic metre between SAR 450 and 650, a bedroom between SAR 1,800 and 2,500, a small car between SAR 3,500 and 5,000, and a small parcel by express courier between roughly SAR 360 and 630. Higher figures are also quoted for this route from Madinah, such as SAR 1,200 for an air parcel of up to 5 kg, SAR 3,200 for a load of up to 100 kg, between SAR 1,500 and 4,000 for medium furniture loads, SAR 4,500 and above for sea freight, and SAR 6,800 for a car. Container rates move with the shipping lines’ prices, so we fix them for you on the day of booking. They are detailed in the article container shipping prices from Jeddah.
| What sets the price | Its effect |
|---|---|
| Method | Sea is the most economical, air the fastest and dearest, and land in between |
| Volume or weight | By the cubic metre or container type at sea, and by weight in the air. Work it out with the CBM calculator |
| Port of departure | Haulage to Yanbu is shorter than haulage to Jeddah |
| Libyan port | The rate differs between Tripoli, Misrata, Khoms and Benghazi |
| Scope of service | To the Libyan port, or to the consignee’s door |
| Added services | Dismantling, packing, storage, insurance and assembly |
| Season | Ramadan, Hajj and summer see higher demand |
How do you reduce the cost?
- Choose a part load if your belongings fill less than half a container.
- If they exceed 15 cubic metres, compare the full-container price with the per-metre price.
- Put the car and the furniture in one 40ft container instead of two shipments.
- Book three weeks before Ramadan and Hajj.
- Choose the Libyan port nearest the consignee’s city, as transport inside Libya is costly over long distances.
The other factors are on the pricing factors page.
What is distinctive about shipping from Madinah?
Madinah is an inland city with no port, yet it is not far from the sea. And it has what Makkah does not: an international airport of its own, Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz Airport. Most of its districts are level and their streets wide, so the container truck reaches the door of the house in most of them. On the other hand, the surroundings of the Prophet’s Mosque are crowded with hotels and pedestrians, and the entry of large trucks to the city centre is regulated by hours set by the traffic department, tighter in the seasons. We confirm the hours in force before loading day.
Madinah is also particular in what leaves it. It is the Kingdom’s third-largest date-producing region, and its central market sells Ajwa, Safawi, Sukkari and Medjool. Dates are a food cargo with their own packing and documents. The city has a station on the Haramain high-speed railway too, but it is a passenger train that carries no freight. So anyone who came by it and has excess luggage hands it to us in Madinah and travels light.
| Madinah particular | Its effect on your shipment | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| No port in the city | The container and the car first travel by road to Jeddah or Yanbu | The vessel is booked before loading, and haulage to the port is the same day |
| An international airport in the city | An air shipment may leave from Madinah directly | We hand it over at Madinah airport, or divert it to Jeddah airport if there is no suitable flight |
| Regulated truck entry to the centre | Loading within set hours | We fix the appointment in advance within the allowed time |
| Central-area hotels | No room for a truck to stop or for lengthy packing | A small vehicle collects bags and cartons from reception |
| Dates | A cargo affected by heat and humidity | Ventilated cartons and pallets, and a refrigerated container for quantities in summer |
| Zamzam water | Its export is restricted | It is not shipped with furniture or parcels |
Shipping household and office furniture from Madinah to Libya

Furniture travelling to Libya stays in the container for weeks and goes through at least three handlings: loading in Madinah, lifting onto the vessel, and discharge at the Libyan port. So the work begins, before packing, with a step many skip: the inventory. We bring the pieces out to the courtyard or entrance of the house, number them one by one, and write the list before anything enters the container. That list is what Libyan customs asks for, and it is what you check against on delivery.
- Survey: free, by photos or a home visit, to estimate the volume and choose the container.
- Dismantling: we take apart wardrobes, bedrooms, majlis sets and desks, and each piece’s screws and hinges go into a bag bearing its number and fastened to it, so nothing is missing at assembly in Libya.
- Marine packing: timber is wrapped in blankets, mirrors and glass in layers of bubble wrap, stretch film is then pulled tight over everything to keep sea humidity out, and screens and chandeliers go into wooden crates.
- Numbered inventory: a number on every piece and carton that matches the list of contents.
- Loading: a 20ft or 40ft container stands at the door, is loaded once and sealed in front of you.
- In Libya: unloading and carrying into the home, and assembly if you ask for it.
Office furniture is handled the same way, with particular care for files and devices: each department’s desks are numbered together, and servers and printers travel in their crates. Libya’s electricity is 230 volts, close to the Kingdom’s, but the sockets differ, so your appliances may need a plug adaptor. Service details are on the furniture shipping page.
Full container or part load?
Volume settles the question. Someone moving a whole home takes a container to himself, loaded at his door, sealed, and not opened until Libya. Someone shipping cartons or one room pays only for the space he occupies, and his belongings are carried to the consolidation warehouse and travel with other people’s shipments. The two options differ in price, time and the number of handlings:
| Comparison | Full container | Consolidated part load |
|---|---|---|
| You pay for | The whole container | What you occupy, by the cubic metre |
| Time | 14–30 days | 20–40 days |
| Loading | At your door in Madinah, sealed in front of you | At the consolidation warehouse with other shipments |
| Best for | A whole home or more than 15 cubic metres | Cartons and one or two rooms |
| Price starts from | SAR 4,600 for a 20ft container | SAR 415 per cubic metre |
Capacity decides between the two sizes: roughly 28 cubic metres in a 20ft container, enough for a family moving a flat of two or three rooms out of Madinah, and roughly 58 cubic metres in a 40ft, which takes the contents of an entire house or a car with furniture loaded beside it. The measurements are set out on the container sizes page, and how the service works on the sea freight page.
Shipping small and large parcels and visitors’ luggage
A Libyan visitor leaves Madinah with more than he arrived with: dates, prayer rugs, gifts and clothes. A resident sends cartons to his family in the seasons. These do not need a container. They are shipped by the carton or the kilogram in consolidated freight if you are not in a hurry, and by air if you want them within days. We collect them from the home or the hotel reception against a receipt showing the number of pieces and their weight.
- Carton: from SAR 140 by consolidated freight, double-walled, and no more than 30 kg.
- Per kilogram: from SAR 5.5 above 100 kg.
- By air: from SAR 28 per kilogram, on the greater of actual and volumetric weight.
- Large parcels: fixed on a pallet and wrapped in stretch film so that they stay together.
- Consignee details: full name, city, district and a Libyan mobile number.
- Declaration: an honest description of the contents and their value, and no prohibited items however small.
Details are on the parcel shipping page.
Shipping electrical appliances and electronics
Appliances are the first to suffer on a long sea voyage if they are packed the way wood is packed. A fridge’s compressor is damaged if it is carried tilted, a screen breaks from pressure in the wrong place, and computer boards are spoilt by the humidity that condenses inside the container. Our rule is simple: the valuable and light travels by air, and the heavy and large travels by sea in packing that allows for both shock and humidity.
- Fridges, washing machines and air conditioners: emptied and dried a day before, their moving parts secured, and loaded upright.
- Screens: in the original carton if available, or in a wooden crate with foam padding.
- Computers and phones: usually by air, with a statement of their number and models.
- Desiccant bags: inside the carton of every appliance that travels by sea.
- Commercial quantities: a detailed invoice with models and serial numbers.
Shipping dates, commercial and industrial goods from Madinah to Libya
Madinah’s best-known export is its dates, and demand for them in Libya rises before Ramadan. Other goods leave with them, bought by Libyan traders from Madinah’s markets or from the factories of nearby Yanbu Industrial City. We collect directly from the supplier, combine purchases from several suppliers in one container, and prepare the documents before the goods leave Madinah. Heavy cargo is secured inside the container with straps and timber that stop it moving as the vessel rolls.
| Item | Shipping method | What it needs |
|---|---|---|
| Dates | Pallets in a dry container, refrigerated in summer | Health certificate, certificate of origin and a visible expiry date |
| Packaged foodstuffs | Dry or refrigerated container | A clear product label and a health certificate |
| Perfumes, incense and gifts | Sea with special packing | A statement of contents; restricted by air |
| Clothes, carpets and fabrics | Bales and cartons in consolidated freight | A packing list with count and weight |
| Building materials and industrial products | Strapped pallets in a full container | Planned weight distribution, and safety data sheets for chemicals |
| Spare parts and equipment | Sea for quantities, air for urgent items | Part numbers on the invoice |
A regular importer gets a fixed monthly schedule and a price agreed for the season. Details are on the commercial shipping page.
Car shipping from Madinah to Libya

A car is not driven to Libya; it is shipped by sea. A car transporter collects it from your home or the showroom in Madinah and carries it to the port, where it is photographed and handed over for shipping. The most requested option on this route is the shared container with racks. Sloping steel racks are fixed inside it, so one car stands on the floor and another above it, and a 40ft container carries three or four cars. Each car is strapped by its wheels, and the freight is divided among the owners.
| Method | How it works | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Shared container with racks | Three or four cars for different customers in a 40ft container, on steel racks and straps | Ordinary cars, showroom traders, and anyone wanting the lowest price |
| Dedicated container | A 20ft container for one car, or a 40ft for two. Secured with straps and wooden chocks, and sealed | Luxury and new cars, and anyone shipping furniture with the car |
| RoRo | The car is driven up the vessel’s ramp and driven off at the Libyan port | Running cars, trucks and buses |
The price starts from SAR 3,220 for a small car, and the transporter’s charge from Madinah to the port is added. A shared container waits until its number of cars is complete. RoRo requires the car to run and to be completely empty, with no bag or carton inside. A dedicated container gives the most protection at the highest price. The comparison is on the container car shipping and RoRo car shipping pages, and in the article car shipping from Saudi Arabia.
- Before handover: a quarter tank of fuel or less, a clean and empty car, and a photo of the odometer.
- Documentation: inspection and photographs from every angle on collection in Madinah, and a condition report of which you take a copy.
- Protection: a cover for the car inside the container on request, against dust and scratches.
- Trucks and equipment: on RoRo or a flat-rack container after the dimensions and weight are studied. Details are on the heavy equipment shipping page.
- Insurance: we advise it for every car; it is calculated as a percentage of the declared value.
Car documents and import conditions in Libya
Before you pay a riyal at a showroom in Madinah, make sure Libya will accept the car. If it is refused on arrival, or duties you had not budgeted for are imposed on it, your loss exceeds the entire freight charge. The export formalities, for their part, are finished in Madinah itself, and there is no need to travel to Jeddah to complete them.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Proof of ownership | The registration or a notarised sale contract, and a stamped purchase invoice if from a showroom |
| Export certificate | From the Madinah traffic department after fines are settled and the plates surrendered |
| Details of both parties | The sender’s ID, and the Libyan consignee’s name, national number or passport, and address |
| Bill of lading | Issued after loading; the car is collected with it at the Libyan port |
| Age of the car | Not fixed: Libyan decisions revise it from time to time. The limit currently applied is around 10 years counted from the year of manufacture, and certain categories are exempted. We check it for you before you buy |
| Steering and condition | Left-hand drive only, and cars with serious accident damage may be refused |
| Libyan duties | Calculated on value, engine capacity and year of manufacture, and paid by the consignee |
The safest course is to ask us before closing the deal: we need only three details, the model, the year of manufacture and the engine capacity, and we answer with two things: whether Libya will accept the car, and roughly what you will have paid in total by the time you receive it. For more, see the car shipping guide.
Packing and wrapping for sea freight
A container at sea is exposed to two things that transport within a city never meets: humidity that condenses on its walls as the temperature changes between night and day, and constant rolling that shifts anything not secured. A Madinah shipment adds hundreds of kilometres of road before the port. So we assess every shipment before packing it and choose for each piece what suits its material and size.
- Against humidity: tight stretch film, and desiccant bags inside appliance cartons and inside the container.
- Against shock: multi-layer bubble wrap, double-walled corrugated cartons, corner protectors, and wooden crates for valuables.
- Stowage: heavy items at the bottom, gaps filled, and the load strapped to the container’s lashing rings.
- Labels: a number on every piece with the consignee’s name and city, to make sorting in Libya easy.
Packing methods are in the packing guide, and securing inside the container is on the packing and lashing page.
Documents and customs clearance
We go through the shipment’s papers one by one while the container is still in Madinah, that is, before it sets out on the road to the port. An error found with us is corrected within an hour; the same error surfacing at the Libyan port costs days of waiting with storage charges on top. Once the vessel berths, the file passes to our broker there, who files the customs declaration, attends the inspection, coordinates the assessment and payment of duties with the consignee, and then obtains the release order.
| Type of shipment | Documents | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Furniture and personal effects | The bill of lading, the numbered inventory list drawn up in Madinah, the sender’s ID, and the consignee’s national number or passport | Describing them as the used effects of someone returning for good usually earns easier treatment |
| Commercial goods | The importer’s registration in Libya, the supplier’s commercial invoice, the certificate of origin, the packing list and the bill of lading | Foodstuffs and dates need a health certificate |
| A car | Registration, purchase invoice, export certificate and bill of lading | Duties on value, engine capacity and year of manufacture |
| Parcels and a visitor’s luggage | A description of the contents and their value, a passport copy, and the consignee’s details | Within the limits of personal use |
The documents are explained on the shipping documents page, and the procedures on the customs clearance page.
What cannot be shipped to Libya or needs a permit
Restrictions are of two kinds: items that are not accepted at all, and items accepted with a document. The second kind is what causes people delays, because the owner assumes it is allowed without condition. So tell us everything in your shipment before packing, not after.
| Item | Status |
|---|---|
| Narcotics and alcohol | Prohibited |
| Weapons, ammunition, explosives and flammable materials | Prohibited |
| Counterfeit goods and forged currency | Confiscated |
| Undeclared cash and gold | Not shipped in cartons or containers |
| Medicines and supplements | With a prescription for personal use, and the health authority’s approval for commercial quantities |
| Foodstuffs and dates in quantity | With health certificates and an expiry date |
| Plants and agricultural products | With a phytosanitary certificate |
| Wireless communication devices | With a prior permit |
| Zamzam water | Not shipped; its export from the Kingdom is restricted |
| Batteries, perfumes and liquids | Subject to special conditions in air freight |
The general list is on the prohibited items page.
Destinations in Libya: Tripoli, Misrata, Khoms, Benghazi and Tobruk

The Libyan coast runs for about 1,800 km, and Tripoli and Benghazi are more than 1,000 km apart by road. So choosing the wrong port means a long and costly road haul after arrival. That is why we ask about the consignee’s city first and then choose the port. When the vessel berths, clearance begins, and after release the shipment leaves on a truck for the consignee’s address, or he collects it from the port if he prefers.
| Port | Region | Cities it serves |
|---|---|---|
| Tripoli | West | Tripoli, Zawiya, Sabratha, Gharyan |
| Misrata | West and centre | Misrata, Zliten, Sirte, and the southern cities |
| Khoms | West | Khoms and Tarhuna, and an alternative to Tripoli when it is congested |
| Benghazi | East | Benghazi, Marj, Bayda, Ajdabiya |
| Tobruk | Far east | Tobruk, Derna, with the Musaid land border post nearby |
The southern cities, such as Sabha, are served by road from Misrata or Tripoli on request. If your shipment is for more than one city, say furniture for Tripoli and cartons for Misrata, it is sorted in the inventory in Madinah and distributed after clearance. Times for each destination are on the transit times page.
Our services for individuals, companies, government bodies, embassies and consulates
Everyone shipping from Madinah to Libya follows the same road, yet their requests are not alike. The head of a family cares about knowing the price in advance and having someone handle the paperwork for him. A trader asks about dates that do not shift and proper invoices. A government department or a diplomatic mission, for its part, requires every stage documented and a handover recorded in a signed report. The table shows what we arrange for each group:
| Customer | What they usually ship | What we arrange |
|---|---|---|
| Individuals and families | Furniture, luggage, a car and cartons | Survey, packing, an itemised price and delivery to the door |
| Visitors and pilgrims | Bags, gifts and dates | Collection from the hotel and delivery in the owner’s city |
| Traders and companies | Goods, containers and equipment | A regular schedule, a tax invoice and document follow-up |
| Government bodies | Devices, printed matter and office furniture | Full documentation, a timetable and delivery against a receipt record |
| Embassies and consulates | Transferred staff’s effects and the mission’s supplies | Coordination with the receiving party in Libya, and documents as the mission requires |
Sensitive technical devices are shipped in sealed crates, and by air if time matters more than cost. We do not promise any party a customs exemption of our own; an exemption is granted by the Libyan authorities on its documents, and our role is to prepare the file in full.
Land freight from Madinah to Libya across Egypt
The land route starts from Madinah in the right direction. The truck heads north to Duba port on the Red Sea, boards the ferry with its load as it is, and comes off at Safaga port on the Egyptian coast, where inspection and customs procedures take place. It then crosses Egypt westwards to the Salloum border post and enters Libya at the Musaid post. It reaches Tobruk first and then Benghazi, and continues along the coastal road to Sirte, Misrata and Tripoli.
- Its advantage: the shipment stays in the same truck from Madinah to Libya, so handling is reduced.
- Time: 10 to 20 days, depending on procedures at the three border points.
- Best for: medium furniture loads, goods bound for the cities of eastern Libya, and foodstuffs in refrigerated trucks.
- What it needs: transit papers allowing the truck through Egyptian territory, and a precise list of contents, because it is reviewed at Safaga and again at Salloum and Musaid.
- When it does not suit: for cars, for very small loads, and for shipments bound for the far west.
Details are on the land freight page.
Air freight from Madinah to Libya

Some shipments cannot wait for a ship: medicine for a patient, a spare part on which a workshop or factory depends, an official document with a deadline. These travel by air. Madinah has an advantage here, as Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport is in the city. There are no direct flights from it to the Libyan airports, so the shipment travels through a transit hub. If Madinah airport has no flight that suits its size, we carry it to King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah. It reaches Mitiga airport in Tripoli, Benina in Benghazi or Misrata airport within 2 to 7 days including clearance.
- For whom: medicines, spare parts, documents, commercial samples and valuable electronics.
- Medicines: with a prescription or medical report for personal use, and in temperature-holding packing for what needs cooling.
- Calculation: the airline weighs the parcel and measures its size, then charges you on whichever figure is higher. Try your numbers beforehand in the volumetric weight calculator.

Collection from Madinah’s districts and governorates, and temporary storage
Our crew comes to your door wherever you live in Madinah, whether in Quba, Awali or Khalidiyah, in Aziziyah, Difa and King Fahd, or in Salam, Aqool and Shuran, and packs and loads on the spot. Collection does not stop at the city limits either: the region’s governorates are covered too, and what we collect there joins the truck going to the port:
| Place | Distance from Madinah | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Central-area hotels | Within the city | Bags and cartons collected from reception by a small vehicle |
| Yanbu | About 220 km | On the coast, and added to the shipment on its way to the port |
| Badr | About 150 km | On the coast road, collected before departure day |
| Khaybar | About 170 km | Collected before departure day and gathered in Madinah |
| Al-Hanakiyah | About 110 km | Collected before departure day and gathered in Madinah |
If you are gathering purchases from more than one supplier, or your home in Libya is not ready yet, or your date falls in the visiting season, we store your shipment in our warehouse, packed and inventoried. The warehouse is closed and monitored by cameras, and you can ask for photos of your shipment while it is there. The storage period and its charge are set on request. Details are on the storage page.
Steps for shipping from Madinah to Libya
- Contact: you send photos of what you want shipped, together with the name of your district in Madinah and the Libyan city where the consignee is waiting.
- Method and price: we propose the method, the port of departure and the Libyan port, and you receive an itemised price.
- Booking: we book the space on the vessel or aircraft and set the loading day within the allowed hours.
- Inventory and packing: at your address, with a numbered list of contents and photos of every piece.
- Haulage to the port: the sealed container or the car moves to Jeddah or Yanbu the same day.
- Documents and export: a complete file reviewed before port entry, after which the bill of lading is issued.
- Sailing and tracking: the container or bill of lading number, and an update at every stage.
- Clearance and delivery: our agent at the Libyan port handles the customs formalities, after which the owner collects from the quay or we bring the shipment to his door.
Tracking and insurance
Weeks lie between Madinah and the consignee’s door in Libya, and we do not leave you without news during them. You get a reference number the day we collect the shipment, then the container and bill of lading numbers the day the vessel sails, and with those you can watch its position whenever you like. A message from us reaches you at each move: the shipment left Madinah, then entered the port, sailed, passed the canal, berthed in Libya, and then the release was issued and it went out for delivery.
- Tracking: enter the bill of lading or container number on the shipping line’s website and the vessel’s position appears. The method is explained on the track your shipment page.
- Documentation: photos of every piece before packing and after loading, the basis of any claim.
- Insurance: not compulsory, and its premium is a percentage of the value you declare. Our view is that no car, whole-home furniture load or electronics should travel without it. It is explained on the cargo insurance page.
- On receipt: check the pieces against the list and note any remark before signing.
Shipping from Libya to Madinah
We serve the opposite direction as well. Our agents at the Libyan ports take in your shipment there and load it on a vessel for Jeddah Islamic Port. Once it is released it completes the journey by truck to Madinah and reaches your address within the hours when trucks are permitted to enter. If you are a Saudi returning from work in Libya, your used personal effects are exempt and a list of contents is enough for them. The Kingdom’s duties and tax are charged on commercial goods, and the amount varies with the type.
Tips before shipping from Madinah to Libya
- Plan early and book three weeks before Ramadan and Hajj, as loading within the season is harder and dearer.
- Name the consignee’s city precisely from the first call, as the Libyan port is chosen by it.
- Measure your belongings or photograph them all; an accurate volume gives you a price that does not change on loading day.
- Write an honest description for every carton; an accurate description shortens inspection in Libya.
- Ask about the car’s conditions in Libya before buying it, not after.
- Do not put Zamzam water, cash or gold in the cartons.
- Give the consignee the bill of lading number and the broker’s name, and stay in touch with us until delivery day.
How do you choose a shipping company from Madinah to Libya?
Do not judge by price alone. Ask these six questions and hear the answer before you hand over your belongings:
| What to ask about | A reassuring sign | A warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| Registration | A commercial registration and a contract in the establishment’s name | An anonymous account and only a mobile number |
| Port of departure | Names the port and the vessel’s date before loading | “From Yanbu tomorrow” with no confirmed booking |
| Libyan port | Asks about the consignee’s city, then proposes the port | One port for the whole of Libya |
| Time | A door-to-door time with a realistic margin | “One week by sea” |
| Price | Itemised: inland haulage, sea, clearance, delivery | A single figure with no idea what it covers |
| In Libya | A known clearing agent at the port of arrival | Its role ends at the Saudi quay |
Common mistakes when shipping from Madinah to Libya
- Insisting on Yanbu port because it is near, then waiting for a vessel with no date.
- Paying for the car before making sure its age and engine are accepted in Libya.
- Leaving personal belongings in a car shipped by RoRo.
- Loading the container without a numbered inventory, so clearance is delayed.
- Ordinary packing for a sea shipment, with no protection against humidity.
- Comparing a “to the port” price with a “to the door” price as if they were the same.
- Forgetting the haulage from Madinah to the port when comparing offers.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Madinah to Libya
How much does shipping from Madinah to Libya cost?
Truck haulage from Madinah to the port is worked out by volume, and the freight itself comes on top: from SAR 140 for a carton, from SAR 415 for a cubic metre of part-load sea freight, from SAR 1,650 for a bedroom, from SAR 3,220 for a small car, from SAR 4,600 for a 20ft container and from SAR 5,200 for a 40ft. To book, call 0552803439.
How long does shipping from Madinah to Libya take?
We count it from your door in Madinah, not from the port: a plane needs 2 to 7 days, a truck across Egypt 10 to 20 days, a full container by sea 14 to 30 days, and part-load sea freight 20 to 40 days because it waits for consolidation.
Which port does the shipment leave from: Yanbu or Jeddah?
Usually Jeddah Islamic Port, because most lines bound for the Mediterranean call there. Yanbu is about 200 km nearer to Madinah, so we use it when it has a sailing that suits your shipment and your date.
Which Libyan port does the shipment arrive at?
That depends on where the consignee is. A shipment for someone in the east is routed to Benghazi or Tobruk, and for someone in the west to Tripoli, Misrata or Khoms; the rule is to keep the road leg after berthing as short as possible.
How is a car shipped from Madinah to Libya?
A car transporter takes it from Madinah to the port, and it is then shipped on racks in a shared container with other cars, in a dedicated container, or on a RoRo vessel if it runs. The price starts from SAR 3,220 for a small car.
Do I complete the car’s export papers in Madinah or in Jeddah?
In Madinah. The export certificate is issued by the traffic department once fines are settled and the plates are surrendered; we follow the paperwork and then carry the car to the port with a complete file.
What is the age condition for a car in Libya?
The limit is not fixed, because Libya revises it through successive decisions. What applies at present is around 10 years counted from the year of manufacture, and some categories are exempted by decision. So tell us the car’s year before you buy it in Madinah, and we will check the limit in force for you.
What is the best way to ship furniture from Madinah to Libya?
For a whole home, a 20ft or 40ft sea container loaded at your door. For one or two rooms, part-load sea freight by the cubic metre. For a few urgent pieces, air freight, which is faster and dearer.
What is the fastest way to deliver parcels to Libya?
Air freight, which arrives in 2 to 7 days including clearance. It leaves from Madinah airport or Jeddah airport depending on the flight available, and starts from SAR 28 per kilogram.
Is there land freight from Madinah to Libya?
Yes, and it takes 10 to 20 days. The truck leaves Madinah northwards for Duba, crosses the Red Sea on the ferry to the Egyptian coast, then drives west as far as Salloum and from there to Musaid, the first Libyan border post.
Do you ship Libyan visitors’ and pilgrims’ luggage from hotels?
Yes. You leave your bags and cartons at your hotel’s reception in the central area, our small vehicle comes and takes them against a receipt, and they then reach your address in Libya. Consolidated freight starts from SAR 140 per carton.
Can Madinah dates be shipped to Libya?
Yes. A few cartons for family travel with the luggage, and commercial quantities go on pallets with a health certificate, a certificate of origin and a visible expiry date. Zamzam water, however, is not shipped.
Do you offer temporary storage before shipping?
Yes. We store your shipment packed and inventoried in our warehouse until it is fully gathered or your home in Libya is ready. The storage period and its charge are set on request.
Who pays Libyan customs?
They are settled in Libya and borne by the consignee. Our broker at the port of arrival files the customs declaration and attends the inspection, then tells the consignee the amount of the duties so that he pays knowing it in advance.
Do you ship from Libya to Madinah?
Yes, through our agents at the Libyan ports. The shipment sails to Jeddah port, is then carried by road and delivered in Madinah within the hours allowed for trucks.
