Who ships from Makkah to Libya, and what do they ship?

Demand on this route has two sides. The first is Libyan families who lived in Makkah for years and then decided to return, so they move their whole home. The second is visitors: Libyan Hajj and Umrah pilgrims who buy more in the markets of Makkah than the aircraft will carry. Between them come the buyer of a car from the showrooms of the western region, and the trader taking seasonal goods. Each has a method that suits what he ships:

Shipper What they ship Most suitable method
The returning Libyan family A whole home’s furniture and appliances A 20ft or 40ft container
The Libyan Hajj or Umrah pilgrim Excess bags, gifts and prayer rugs Consolidated freight by the carton, or air for urgent items
The car buyer A car from a showroom or an owner RoRo, or a dedicated or shared container
Someone sending to family Cartons of clothes and small appliances Part-load sea freight or consolidated land freight
The trader Prayer beads, abayas, perfumes, dates and seasonal supplies Part load by the cubic metre, or a full container
The company and the official body Equipment, printed matter and documents A container for heavy items, and air for documents

Route and transit time from Makkah to Libya

Makkah is an inland city, yet it is the closest of the Kingdom’s large cities to a Red Sea port after Jeddah itself. The truck comes down from Makkah to Jeddah Islamic Port in about an hour and a half. From the port the ship heads north, passes through the Suez Canal into the Mediterranean, and then sails west along the Egyptian coast to the Libyan ports. This is the shortest sea route from the Kingdom to Libya, as the ship does not sail round the Arabian Peninsula the way those leaving the Gulf ports do.

Stage What happens in it Usual time
Collection and packing in Makkah Dismantling, packing, inventory and loading within the allowed hours One to two days
Makkah → Jeddah port About 80 km on the motorway On the loading day itself
Export and waiting for the vessel Export clearance, entry to the yard and loading onto the ship Two to 4 days
Sailing The Red Sea, then the Suez Canal, then the Mediterranean 10 to 20 days depending on the line
Clearance in Libya and delivery Declaration, inspection and duties, then carriage to the consignee’s city Days that vary from port to port

Five methods are available. You choose between them by what you are shipping and how urgent it is, and these are their times from your door in Makkah to Libya:

Method Approximate time Best for
Sea, full container 14–30 days A whole home’s furniture, cars, and goods in bulk
Sea, consolidated part load 20–40 days Cartons and a room or two
RoRo for vehicles 15–30 days Running cars, trucks and buses
Land across Egypt 10–20 days Medium furniture loads and shipments for eastern Libyan cities
Air via Jeddah airport 2–7 days Documents, spare parts and urgent parcels

What lengthens the time?

  • Makkah’s seasons: in Ramadan and Hajj the hours for trucks to enter become tighter, so loading is delayed unless it is booked early.
  • Waiting for consolidation: a shared container does not move until it is full.
  • Transhipment: some lines change vessel at an intermediate Mediterranean port, which adds days.
  • An incomplete file: a mistake in the invoice or the list of contents stops clearance in Libya.
  • Congestion at the Libyan port: it varies from one port to another and from one season to another.

Shipping prices from Makkah to Libya

The price has three parts: carriage from Makkah to Jeddah’s port or airport, then the sea, land or air freight, and then the services in Libya if you ask for delivery to the door. The first part is small because the distance is short, and we show it to you as a separate item according to your district and the size of the shipment. These are the prices our services start from on this route:

What you ship Method Price starts from
Carton Consolidated sea or land freight SAR 140
Per kilogram above 100 kg Consolidated freight SAR 5.5 per kilogram
Cubic metre Part-load sea freight SAR 415
Small load Minimum charge per shipment SAR 1,380
Bedroom Part load SAR 1,650
Small car RoRo or shared container SAR 3,220
20ft container Sea freight from Jeddah port SAR 4,600
40ft container Sea freight from Jeddah port SAR 5,200
Air freight Via King Abdulaziz Airport, Jeddah SAR 28 per kilogram
Documents Express shipping SAR 83
A car or machine by air Special air freight Set on request

Prices circulating in the market for this route are higher than that: a carton between SAR 150 and 350, a kilogram for large loads between SAR 6 and 9, a cubic metre between SAR 450 and 650, a small load from SAR 1,500, a bedroom or a medium furniture load between SAR 1,500 and 3,000, a small car between SAR 3,500 and 5,000, and a parcel by express courier between SAR 358 and 628. For containers, figures between SAR 5,000 and 15,000 are quoted. Container freight changes with the shipping lines’ rates, so we fix it for you on the booking day. It is detailed in the article container shipping prices from Jeddah.

What sets the price Its effect
Method Sea is cheapest for volume, air costs several times more, and land sits between
Volume or weight By the cubic metre or the container type at sea, and by weight in the air. Work it out with the CBM calculator
Your location in Makkah A hillside district or a high floor needs a small vehicle or a hoist
Libyan port Freight differs between Misrata, Benghazi, Tripoli and Khoms
Scope of service To the Libyan port, or to the consignee’s door
Season Ramadan, Hajj and summer see higher demand

How do you reduce the cost?

  • Choose a part load if your shipment is under 15 cubic metres, and compare with the price of a full container if it is more.
  • Book three weeks before Ramadan and Hajj, as both the price and the date change inside the season.
  • Ask for the whole service in one itemised price, rather than separate services from several parties.
  • Choose the port nearest the consignee’s city, as carriage inside Libya is costly over long distances.
  • Get rid of what is not worth shipping before the survey, as every cubic metre is counted.

The price items are explained on the pricing factors page.

What you should know about shipping from Makkah in particular

Shipping from Makkah is not like shipping from a port city. It has no port and no airport, its large trucks have set hours of entry, and many of its homes stand on slopes. All of this is solved by arranging things in advance, not by promises. Anyone who promises you a container at your door at any hour of any day has not loaded in Makkah before.

Makkah particular Its effect on your shipment What we do
No port in the city The container and the car leave from Jeddah port Carriage to the port on the loading day, with the vessel booking confirmed beforehand
No airport in the city Air freight leaves from King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah We carry the shipment to the airport on the same day
Truck entry hours Loading at a set time, not at any time We fix the appointment in advance within the allowed hours
Narrow hillside districts The container truck cannot reach the door A small vehicle shuttles to the container at the nearest wide street
Ramadan and Hajj Tighter restrictions and higher demand Loading before the season, or storage until after it
Zamzam water Its export is restricted It is not shipped with furniture or parcels

Sea freight from Makkah to Libya: full container or part load?

Sea freight is the first method on this route, and most of what leaves Makkah for Libya ships this way. There is one question in it: does your shipment fill a container, or do you share one with others? In a full container your belongings are loaded alone and sealed, and it is opened only in Libya. As a part load they are carried from Makkah to the consolidation warehouse and stowed with other shipments bound for the same port.

Comparison Full container Consolidated part load
You pay for The whole container What you occupy, by the cubic metre
Time 14–30 days 20–40 days
Loading At your address in Makkah, and sealed in front of you At the consolidation warehouse with other people’s shipments
Best for A whole home or more than 15 cubic metres Cartons and a room or two
Price starts from SAR 4,600 for a 20ft container SAR 415 per cubic metre

To judge what you need: the furniture of a two- to three-room flat fills a 20ft container, whose capacity is about 28 cubic metres. A whole home, or a car together with furniture, belongs in a 40ft container of about 58 cubic metres. Check the dimensions on the container sizes page, and read about the service on the sea freight page and in the article international sea freight from Jeddah.

Car shipping from Makkah to Libya

Car shipping from Mecca to Libya

A car is not driven to Libya; it is shipped by sea. A transporter collects it from your home or from the showroom in Makkah and takes it down to Jeddah port, where it is photographed and enters the yard. It then ships by one of three methods, and the difference between them is in protection, price and sailing date:

Method How it works Suits
RoRo The car is driven up the ship’s ramp, stands uncovered on the car deck, and is driven off at the Libyan port Running cars, trucks and buses
Dedicated container A 20ft container for one car, or a 40ft for two. It is secured with straps and wooden chocks and sealed Luxury and new cars, and anyone shipping belongings with the car
Shared container Several cars for different customers in a 40ft container, with the freight divided Ordinary cars for those in no hurry

The price starts from SAR 3,220 for a small car. RoRo requires the car to be running and completely empty, with no bag or carton inside it. A shared container waits until it is complete. A dedicated container gives more protection at a higher price. Shipping a car by air is possible for special cases, it costs several times the sea freight, and its price is set on request. The comparison is on the RoRo car shipping and container car shipping pages, and in the article car shipping from Saudi Arabia.

  • Before handover: a quarter of a tank of fuel or less, a clean and empty car, and a photo of the odometer.
  • Documentation: photographs from every angle at collection in Makkah, and a condition report of which you take a copy.
  • Trucks and machinery: on RoRo or a flat rack container after the dimensions and weight are studied. Details on the heavy equipment shipping page.
  • Insurance: we advise it for every car worth several times its shipping cost.

Car documents and import conditions in Libya

The export certificate is issued by the traffic department once fines are paid and the plates are surrendered, and without it the car does not enter the port. The conditions of entry to Libya are set by the Libyan authorities through decisions that change, so do not rely on a figure you read on a forum. Ask before you pay for the car, not after it reaches the quay.

Item Detail
Proof of ownership The registration or a notarised sale contract, and a stamped purchase invoice if it is from a showroom
Purchase invoice Showing the model, year of manufacture, chassis number and price; the customs value is assessed on it
Export certificate From the traffic department, once the car is free of fines, liens and any restriction
Details of both parties The sender’s ID, and the Libyan consignee’s name, national number or passport, and address
Bill of lading Issued after loading; the car is collected with it at the Libyan port
Age of the car Roughly 10 years counted from the year of manufacture is what is commonly cited at present, and we check the condition in force before the car leaves Makkah
Steering and condition Current practice is to accept left-hand drive, and cars with serious accident damage may be refused
Libyan duties Usually calculated on value, engine size and year of manufacture, and paid by the consignee

Before you settle with the showroom in Makkah, send us three details: the model, the year of manufacture and the engine size. We come back to you with two answers: whether Libya will accept the car, and how much shipping it costs. For more, see the car shipping guide.

Furniture shipping from Makkah to Libya

Shipping furniture from Mecca to Libya in a container

A returning family’s home is moved in a 20ft or 40ft container. The furniture stays in it for weeks, with the humidity of the sea and the rolling of the ship, so the packing used for a move within the city is not enough. And in Makkah there is a challenge before the sea: flats on high floors, buildings without a wide lift, and streets on slopes. So we begin by surveying the home and the street together, not the furniture alone.

  • Survey: by photos or at the home, to estimate the volume, choose the container and know where it will stand.
  • Dismantling: we take apart wardrobes, bedrooms and majlis seating, and each piece gets a numbered bag fastened to it holding its own screws and hinges.
  • Packing against sea humidity: tight plastic wrap over the blankets, and desiccant bags inside the appliance cartons.
  • High floors: a ladder hoist brings the large pieces down from the balcony or the window to the street, so they do not pass through a narrow stairwell.
  • Inventory: a number on every piece and carton matching the list of contents. It is the basis of clearance in Libya and of checking at delivery.
  • Stowing and sealing: heavy items at the bottom, gaps filled, the load lashed to the container’s rings, then sealed in front of you.
  • In Libya: unloading and carrying into the home, and assembly if you ask for it.

The mains voltage in Libya is close to that used in the Kingdom, but the shape of the sockets differs, so your appliances may need a plug adaptor. A bedroom as a part load starts from SAR 1,650. Service details are on the furniture shipping page, and packing methods in the packing guide.

Shipping small parcels, luggage and pilgrims’ belongings

The Libyan Hajj or Umrah pilgrim buys for his family, then discovers at the airport that his weight has gone over. The resident sends his family a carton every few months. These small shipments are charged by the carton or the kilogram, and travel by consolidated sea or land freight if they are not urgent, and by air if you want them within days.

  • Carton: from SAR 140 by consolidated freight, double-walled and no more than 30 kg.
  • Per kilogram: from SAR 5.5 above 100 kg.
  • By air: from SAR 28 per kilogram, on the greater of actual and volumetric weight.
  • From the hotel: we collect bags and cartons from reception against a receipt showing their number and weight.
  • Consignee details: full name, city, district and a Libyan mobile number, on every piece.
  • What must not go in them: Zamzam water, cash, gold and medicines without a prescription.

Details on the parcel shipping page.

Shipping electronics and electrical appliances

Appliances suffer most from poor packing: a screen breaks under a single press, a fridge’s compressor is damaged if it is carried tilted, and a computer is ruined by humidity. The rule is that a valuable, light device travels by air, and a large, heavy one travels by sea with packing that allows for both shock and humidity.

  • Screens: in their original carton if available, or in a wooden crate with foam padding, and loaded upright.
  • Fridges and washing machines: emptied and dried a day earlier, with their moving parts secured, and carried upright.
  • Computers and phones: mostly by air, with a statement of their number and models for customs.
  • Batteries: they have requirements in air freight, so tell us about them before packing.
  • Commercial quantities: a detailed invoice with models and serial numbers.

Shipping commercial goods and products from Makkah to Libya

Makkah’s goods are seasonal goods: what the pilgrim asks for, the Libyan market asks for in Ramadan, the Eids and the Hajj season. The trader buys from the wholesale markets of Makkah and Jeddah, and we collect from the suppliers and gather the purchases into one shipment. Commercial goods enter Libya in the name of a registered importer, with documents that match what is in the container.

Category Shipping method What it needs
Prayer beads, prayer rugs and ihram clothing Cartons and bales as a part load A packing list with count and weight
Abayas and fabrics Pressed bales in consolidated freight A commercial invoice and a certificate of origin
Dates and foodstuffs A dry or refrigerated container A health certificate, a certificate of origin and an expiry date
Perfumes and incense By sea with special packing A statement of contents; restricted by air
Appliances and electronics Sea for quantities, and air for high value A detailed invoice with models
Spare parts Sea for quantities, and air for urgent items Part numbers on the invoice

The regular trader has a fixed schedule ahead of every season. Details on the commercial shipping page.

Documents and customs clearance

A sea shipment passes two clearances: export at Jeddah port, and import at the Libyan port. The first we complete before the truck from Makkah reaches the port gate. The second is handled by our broker in Libya: a customs declaration, then inspection, then assessment and payment of duties in coordination with the consignee, then release. A small mistake in the file is corrected in Jeddah within an hour, and at the port of arrival it costs days and storage charges.

Shipment type Documents Note
Furniture and personal effects The bill of lading, an itemised contents list, the sender’s residence permit or ID, and the consignee’s national number or passport Describing them as used effects of a returnee usually eases their treatment
Commercial goods The Libyan importer’s registration, together with the commercial invoice, the packing list, the certificate of origin and the bill of lading Some categories need health or technical certificates
Car Registration, purchase invoice, export certificate and bill of lading Duties are paid by the consignee in Libya
Parcels and visitors’ luggage A description of the contents and their value, a copy of the sender’s passport, and the consignee’s details Within the limits of personal use
Land shipment across Egypt The same documents, plus transit documents The list is checked at more than one border post

The documents are explained on the shipping documents page, and the procedures on the customs clearance page.

What cannot be shipped to Libya or needs a permit

Prohibited items are of two kinds: what the Kingdom bans from leaving, and what Libya bans from entering. One prohibited item in one carton stops the whole container for inspection. So ask about any item you are unsure of before packing it.

Category Ruling
Narcotics and alcohol Prohibited
Weapons, ammunition and explosives Prohibited
Flammable materials and hazardous chemicals Not shipped with furniture and parcels
Counterfeit goods and forged currency Confiscated
Zamzam water Its export is restricted, and it is not shipped
Undeclared cash and gold Not to be placed in shipments
Medicines and supplements With documents and prescriptions
Foodstuffs and plants With health or plant quarantine certificates
Wireless communication devices With a prior permit
Batteries, perfumes and liquids Subject to special requirements in air freight

The general list is on the prohibited items page.

Shipping destinations in Libya: from Benghazi port to Misrata and Tripoli

Shipments from Mecca arriving in Benghazi

The Libyan coast is long, stretching about 1,800 km, and Benghazi and Tripoli are more than 1,000 km apart by road. So the choice of port is a decision about price and time together. A shipment bound for Bayda lands at Benghazi, and one bound for Zawiya lands at Tripoli. Once the ship berths, clearance begins, and the shipment then leaves on a truck for the consignee’s city.

Port Region Cities it serves
Benghazi East Benghazi, Marj, Bayda, Ajdabiya
Tobruk Far east Tobruk, Derna, and places near the Musaid border post
Misrata West and centre Misrata, Zliten, Sirte, Tarhuna, and the southern cities
Tripoli West Tripoli, Zawiya, Sabratha, Gharyan
Khoms West Khoms and its surroundings, and an alternative to Tripoli when it is congested

Sabha and the other southern cities have no port, and a shipment reaches them on request by truck from Misrata or Tripoli. An incomplete address delays delivery more than the sea does, so mark the shipment with the consignee’s full name, his city and district, and his Libyan mobile number. The list of gateways is on the ports and gateways page.

Our services for individuals, companies and government bodies

The route is one, but what each customer needs differs. The individual wants a clear price and someone to carry the procedures for him. The company wants scheduling and proper invoices. The official body wants full documentation and delivery against a signed record. We arrange the service on that basis:

Customer What they mostly ship What we arrange for them
Individuals and families Furniture, luggage, a car and cartons Survey, packing, an itemised price and delivery to the door
Hajj and Umrah pilgrims Bags and gifts Collection from the hotel and delivery in the owner’s city
Traders and companies Goods, containers and equipment Regular scheduling, a tax invoice and follow-up of documents
Government bodies and missions Printed matter, devices, office furniture and documents Full documentation, and delivery against a receipt record

Land freight from Makkah to Libya across Egypt

No continuous road links the Kingdom with Libya, because the Red Sea and then Egypt lie in between. From Makkah the truck drives north as far as Duba port, where it rolls onto the ferry with its load untouched and comes off on the Egyptian shore. After that it crosses Egypt from east to west, leaves through Salloum and enters Libyan territory at Musaid. Tobruk is the first city on its way, followed by Benghazi, and the coastal road then takes it on to Sirte, Misrata and Tripoli.

  • Its advantage: the shipment stays in the same truck from Makkah to Libya, so handling is reduced.
  • Time: 10 to 20 days depending on procedures at the three crossings.
  • Best for: goods headed to Tobruk, Benghazi and the rest of eastern Libya, mid-sized furniture loads, and foodstuffs that need a refrigerated truck.
  • What it needs: transit documents across Egypt, and an accurate list of contents that is checked at more than one border post.
  • When it does not suit: for cars, for very small loads, and for shipments bound for the far west.

Details on the land freight page.

Air freight from Makkah to Libya

Air freight from Mecca to Libya

For when the matter cannot wait for a ship: an official transaction, a spare part that work depends on, or a valuable device. Makkah has no airport, so we collect the shipment from your door or hotel and carry it to King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah on the same day. From there it flies through a transit stop to Mitiga airport in Tripoli, Benina in Benghazi or Misrata airport, and is delivered within 2 to 7 days including clearance.

  • For whom: documents, spare parts, commercial samples, valuable electronics and a visitor’s urgent luggage.
  • Charging: on the greater of actual and volumetric weight. Work it out with the volumetric weight calculator.
  • Price: air freight starts from SAR 28 per kilogram, and documents by express from SAR 83.
  • What it does not suit: furniture, building materials and bulky goods.
  • Restricted by air: batteries, perfumes and liquids, which have requirements we guide you through before packing.

Details on the air freight page, and in the article air freight office in Jeddah.

Collection from Makkah’s districts and nearby towns

Our crew comes to you for packing and loading wherever you live in Makkah, whether in Aziziyah, Shawqiyah, Awali, Naseem, Sharaie, Batha Quraysh, Zahir, Rusayfah, Nawwariyah or Umrah. The towns around Makkah are covered for collection too, and whatever is collected there joins the same container or goes into the consolidation warehouse:

Place Distance from Makkah Note
Hotels of the central area Inside Makkah Bags and cartons collected from reception against a receipt
Jumum and Bahrah 20–40 km Collected on the same day as Makkah
Jeddah About 80 km It has the port, the airport and the consolidation warehouse
Taif About 90 km Carried to Jeddah in a closed truck

If your home in Libya is not ready yet, or you want to travel ahead of your belongings, we store your shipment packed and inventoried until you set the date. Details on the storage page.

Steps for shipping from Makkah to Libya

  1. Contact: you send us photos of your shipment along with two addresses: your district or hotel in Makkah, and the Libyan city where the consignee lives.
  2. Method and price: we suggest the most suitable method and Libyan port, and the itemised price reaches you.
  3. Booking: we set the collection day within the hours allowed for trucks, and ask for photos of the documents.
  4. Collection and packing: at your address, with a numbered list of contents and photos of every piece.
  5. Carriage to Jeddah: to the port, the airport or the consolidation warehouse, according to the method.
  6. Export and sailing: a complete file reviewed before entering the port, then the bill of lading.
  7. Tracking: the container or bill of lading number, and an update at every stage.
  8. Clearance and delivery: our agent sees the paperwork through at the Libyan port, and the owner receives his belongings at the quay or at his own door, as agreed.

Tracking and insurance

From the collection day you have a reference number and one person in charge whose name you know. From the sailing day you have the container and bill of lading numbers, and you follow the ship yourself with them on the shipping line’s website. We inform you at every point: left Makkah, entered the port, sailed, passed the canal, berthed in Libya, release issued, out for delivery.

  • Tracking: by the container or bill of lading number at sea, and by the air waybill number in the air. Details on the track your shipment page.
  • Documentation: photos of every piece before packing and after loading, which are the basis of any claim.
  • Insurance: not compulsory, and its premium is a percentage of the value you declare. We recommend it to anyone shipping a car, a whole home or electronics. Read about it on the cargo insurance page.
  • On receipt: check the pieces against the list and note any remark before signing.

Shipping from Libya to Makkah

We ship the other way as well. Our agents at the Libyan ports take in the shipment and load it on a vessel for Jeddah Islamic Port, where it is cleared. A truck then brings it up to Makkah and delivers it in your district within the hours allowed for trucks. The belongings of a Saudi coming home from work in Libya, if they are personal and used, come in exempt, accompanied by a list of contents. Commercial goods are a different matter: they carry the Kingdom’s duties and tax, which vary by category.

Tips before shipping from Makkah to Libya

  • Book three weeks before Ramadan and Hajj, as loading inside the season is harder and dearer.
  • State the consignee’s city precisely from the first call, as the Libyan port is chosen by it.
  • Tell us the floor, the width of the street and whether the building has a lift, as loading time is worked out from them.
  • Photograph your belongings before packing, and keep a copy of the list of contents.
  • Ask about the conditions for a car in Libya before buying it, not after.
  • Do not put Zamzam water, cash or gold in the cartons.
  • Give the consignee in Libya the bill of lading number and the broker’s name, so that he is ready on the day of arrival.

How do you choose a shipping company from Mecca to Libya?

The questions an office asks you reveal it before its price does. One that asks neither about your district in Makkah nor about the consignee’s city in Libya is giving you a figure without knowing what lies behind it.

What you ask about Reassuring sign Warning sign
Registration A commercial registration and an itemised written contract An anonymous account and a mobile number only
Loading in Makkah Asks about the district and the floor and sets an allowed hour “We bring you the container at any time”
Libyan port Asks about the consignee’s city and then suggests the port One port for the whole of Libya
Time A door-to-door time with a realistic margin “One week by sea”
Price Detailed items: carriage to Jeddah, sea, clearance, delivery A single figure with no idea what it covers
Cars Asks about the year and the engine size before shipping “All cars get in”

Common mistakes when shipping from Makkah to Libya

  • Booking days before Hajj or Ramadan, then waiting for an entry hour that is not available.
  • Asking for a container on a narrow hillside street without a survey.
  • Paying for the car before making sure its age and engine are acceptable in Libya.
  • Leaving personal belongings in a car shipped by RoRo.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Makkah to Libya

How much does shipping from Makkah to Libya cost?

It depends on what you ship from Makkah: a 40ft container starts from SAR 5,200, a 20ft container from SAR 4,600, a small car from SAR 3,220, a bedroom from SAR 1,650, a cubic metre of part-load sea freight from SAR 415, and a carton from SAR 140. We settle the final figure once we know the size of the shipment, your district in Makkah and the Libyan port it is bound for. Our number is 0552803439.

How long does shipping from Makkah to Libya take?

We count the time from your door in Makkah. Air is fastest, at 2 to 7 days. Next comes the truck across Egypt, at 10 to 20 days, then a full container by sea, at 14 to 30 days. A part load by sea is slowest, at 20 to 40 days.

Which port does the shipment leave from, as Makkah has no port?

From Jeddah Islamic Port, about 80 km from Makkah. The truck carries the container or the car to it in a single trip, and the ship then sails north to the Suez Canal.

Which Libyan port does the shipment arrive at?

The consignee’s city decides the port. If it is in the east the shipment lands at Benghazi or Tobruk, and if it is in the west it lands at Misrata, Tripoli or Khoms.

How is a car shipped from Makkah to Libya?

A transporter collects it in Makkah and takes it to Jeddah port, where it ships in a dedicated container, a shared container, or on a RoRo vessel that it is driven onto. The price starts from SAR 3,220 for a small car.

What is the age condition for a car in Libya?

There is no fixed figure, as the Libyan authorities amend the age condition for used cars from one decision to the next. What is commonly cited at present is that the car should be no older than about 10 years, counted from its year of manufacture. Before you buy in Makkah, tell us its year and we will check the condition in force for you.

What documents are needed to ship a car?

Five things: proof of ownership, meaning the registration or the sale contract; the purchase invoice; the export certificate issued by the traffic department; the sender’s ID; and the details of the consignee in Libya with his national number or passport.

Does the container come to my home in Makkah?

Yes, within the hours when trucks are allowed in, if the street is wide enough for it. In the narrow hillside districts a small vehicle carries the items to the container at the nearest wide street.

Is there land freight from Makkah to Libya?

Yes, and it is a route made of road and sea. The truck leaves Makkah for Duba, crosses the Red Sea by ferry to Egypt, and drives through it to Salloum and on to Musaid on the Libyan side. The whole journey takes between 10 and 20 days.

Is there air freight directly from Makkah?

There is no airport in Makkah, so the point of departure is King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah. We take your shipment there by road, and it reaches the Libyan airport after a stop at a transit hub. A kilogram starts from SAR 28.

Do you ship the luggage of Libyan Hajj and Umrah pilgrims?

Yes. We collect bags and cartons from the hotel or lodging in Makkah against a receipt and deliver them to the owner’s address in Libya. A carton starts from SAR 140 by consolidated freight.

Can Zamzam water be shipped to Libya?

It cannot be shipped. Zamzam water is restricted for export, so we put it neither in a goods container nor in a parcel. All a traveller carries with him is the pack made for travel.

Who pays Libyan customs?

They fall on the consignee in Libya, not on the sender in Makkah. The role of our broker at the Libyan port is to file the declaration, attend the inspection, and then tell the consignee the amount due before he pays.

Is shipping affected by the Hajj season and Ramadan?

Yes. Truck movement inside Makkah is restricted in both seasons, so we ask you to book three weeks ahead of them, or we store the shipment in our warehouse until the season is over.

Do you ship from Libya to Makkah?

Yes, through our agents at the Libyan ports, by sea to Jeddah port and then delivery in any district of Makkah within the hours allowed for trucks.
