Who ships from Riyadh to Belgium, and what do they ship?
The link between the two capitals is one of work more than of tourism. Brussels is the seat of the European Union institutions and of NATO, Antwerp has one of the largest chemical industry clusters in Europe, and Riyadh holds the ministries, embassies and factories that deal with both. So this route is dominated by the transferred employee, the diplomat and the exporter, then the student and the car owner:
| Shipper | What they ship | Best method | Status at Belgian customs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Employee transferred to Brussels | Household furniture and family baggage | 20- or 40-foot container | Transfer-of-residence relief on its conditions |
| Student in Leuven, Ghent or Brussels | Cartons of clothes and books | Shared container, and a suitcase by air | A student’s effects with proof of enrolment |
| Factory and exporter | Goods on pallets and samples | Container for volumes, air for samples | Duty by tariff heading and 21% tax |
| Embassy and government body | Staff baggage, documents and exhibits | Air for documents, sea for baggage | According to the consignee’s status |
The shipping route from Riyadh to Belgium and its duration
The sea journey from Riyadh has three parts: Saudi land as far as the port, then a sea of about 4,100 nautical miles between Jeddah and Antwerp, then a very short stretch of Belgian land. The first part is what sets the capital apart from the coastal cities, and the last is what sets Belgium apart from its larger neighbours. These are the stages of a full container with their usual durations:
| Stage | What happens in it | Usual duration |
|---|---|---|
| Preparation in Riyadh | Dismantling, packing, inventory and loading | 1–2 days |
| The road to the port | Truck to Jeddah, or train from the dry port to Dammam | 1–3 days |
| Export and waiting for the vessel | Export declaration, advance security filing and handing the container to the line | 3–6 days |
| Sailing | Suez, then the Mediterranean, Gibraltar, the English Channel and the River Scheldt | 14–20 days |
| Clearance in Antwerp | Import declaration and the relief file or payment of tax | 2–4 working days |
| Delivery inside Belgium | From the quay to the address, with unloading | 1–2 days |
The duration changes with the method. A shared container waits for its partners, the car vessel has a less frequent schedule, and the aircraft cuts out all of the above. These times are counted from Riyadh, not from the port:
| Method | Route | Time from Riyadh | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full container | Riyadh → Jeddah → Antwerp | 27–38 days | A whole house and wholesale goods |
| Shared container | Consolidated in the Kingdom and sorted in a warehouse near Antwerp | 32–41 days | Anything under 15 cubic metres |
| RoRo for cars | Transporter to Jeddah, then a car vessel to Zeebrugge | 26–35 days | A car that runs on its own engine |
| Air | King Khalid Airport → Brussels or Liège | 3–6 days | Samples, parcels, documents and suitcases |
What lengthens the duration?
- Vessel re-routing: some lines occasionally sail round the Cape of Good Hope instead of Suez, adding a week or more to the voyage. We tell you the vessel’s route when you book.
- An incomplete cargo description: the European security filing is sent before loading, and a vague description such as “spare parts” can stop the container being loaded in Jeddah.
- The commune certificate: anyone who has not registered at the commune of their Belgian home has an incomplete relief file, so the container waits in the port.
- Congestion in Antwerp: the port gets busy in certain seasons, and a container leaves the quay a day or several days late.
Times for the other destinations are on the transit times page.
Sea freight from Riyadh to Belgium via the port of Antwerp

Antwerp is a river port, not a coastal one. The vessel enters from the North Sea at the mouth of the River Scheldt and sails up it for tens of kilometres to the quays, so the container comes ashore in the heart of the country rather than on its edge. That is what makes inland transport in Belgium shorter than in any other European country we ship to. There are many lines between Jeddah and Antwerp, some direct and some changing vessel at an intermediate Mediterranean port.
The Saudi end needs a decision: how does a Riyadh container reach the sea? To the west is Jeddah Islamic Port on the Red Sea, which a truck reaches after about 950 km. To the east is King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, reached by the container train from the Riyadh dry port. Jeddah is farther by land but nearer by sea, because its vessel heads north straight to Suez, while a Dammam vessel first sails round the Arabian Peninsula.
| Comparison | Truck to Jeddah port | Train from the dry port to Dammam |
|---|---|---|
| Inland route | About 950 km on the Riyadh–Makkah motorway | The freight railway between Riyadh and Dammam |
| Where the export declaration is made | At Jeddah port | In Riyadh, with the container sealed before it moves |
| The vessel’s route to Antwerp | The Red Sea, then Suez | Hormuz, the Arabian Sea, the Red Sea, then Suez |
| Best for | Furniture, baggage and cars | Factory goods when the vessel schedule suits |
A 20-foot or 40-foot container stands at your house or factory and is filled and sealed in front of you, or is loaded at our warehouse when the street has no room for the truck. Either way, we book its slot on the vessel before it leaves Riyadh, so that it does not run up storage charges in the port yard. The method is explained on the sea freight page, and the port exit procedures in the article international sea freight from Jeddah.
Shipping prices from Riyadh to Belgium: air and sea
The question “what does shipping to Belgium cost” has more than one answer, because each kind of shipment is priced in a different unit. A parcel and a sample by the kilogram, a small amount of furniture by the cubic metre, a house’s furniture by the container, and a car by its category. A Riyadh shipment also has an item a Jeddah shipment does not know, which is the road to the port. These are the figures our services start from on this route:
| What you ship | Method | Price starts from |
|---|---|---|
| Samples, parcels and suitcases | Air from King Khalid Airport | SAR 23 per kilogram |
| Documents up to one kilogram | Express | SAR 83 |
| Parcel up to 5 kg | Express | SAR 110 |
| Furniture and baggage | Shared container | SAR 5,500 |
| A full house of furniture | Full container | SAR 11,000 |
| Saloon car | By sea from Jeddah port | SAR 2,800 |
| Commercial goods on pallets | Full or shared container | Set on request |
| The road from Riyadh to the port | Truck or train according to volume | Set on request |
An example of the air calculation: a company in Al-Olaya sends a customer in Ghent samples with a chargeable weight of 40 kg, so the charge is 40 × 23, that is from SAR 920.
Prices quoted in the market for this route are few and uneven. A parcel of up to 5 kg is offered at about SAR 300, express couriers publish its rate to Europe at between SAR 230 and 500, and for parcels between 5 and 50 kg figures of SAR 500 to 1,500 are mentioned. By sea, figures between SAR 4,000 and 8,000 circulate for a 20-foot container, and between SAR 8,000 and 15,000 for a 40-foot container, sometimes reaching SAR 20,000. Some add between SAR 200 and 800 for collection from the outlying districts of Riyadh, and insurance starts from 2% of the value. Most of these figures do not say where the service ends: at the Antwerp quay or at the door of the house.
| What sets the price | Its effect on a Riyadh-to-Belgium shipment |
|---|---|
| Volume or weight | The cubic metre by sea and the chargeable weight by air. Estimate your volume with the CBM calculator |
| The road to the port | An item particular to inland cities, lower if you share the truck with others |
| Collection district | Distance from the warehouse, the lift, and the compound entry permit |
| Scope of service | To the Antwerp quay, or to the door with clearance and unloading |
| Delivery address | Every city is near the port; the difference is the type of building, not the distance |
How do you lower the cost?
- Book on our groupage run from Riyadh to Jeddah instead of a dedicated truck, if your date is not tight.
- Register at the Belgian commune as soon as you arrive; a late certificate means daily storage charges on the container.
- Do not ship a washing machine or fridge that does not run on 50 hertz; you would pay its freight and then buy another.
- Dismantle wardrobes and beds into panels; the empty space inside a piece is volume you pay for.
Each factor is explained on the pricing factors page.
Shipping furniture and appliances from Riyadh to Belgium
The furniture of Riyadh homes was made for spacious rooms and wide doors. The usual Belgian town house is a terraced house of three or four storeys, with a narrow frontage and a very steep staircase. So the first question is not “how many cubic metres do you have?” but “what will get up that staircase?”. We go through the pieces with you one by one, separating what deserves the journey from what is better sold before it.
- Measuring: we ask for the width of the Belgian front door, the width of the stairs and the height of the front window, and compare them with the sofas and wardrobes that cannot be dismantled.
- Dismantling: bedrooms, dining tables and bookcases are taken down into numbered panels, with their screws kept in a bag taped to the panel.
- Packing: blankets then corrugated paper for wood, and heat-treated timber crates stamped ISPM 15 for glass, paintings and marble.
- Humidity: the container moves from the heat of the Red Sea to the cold of the North Sea, so we place desiccant bags in it and do not wrap varnished wood in airtight plastic.
- In Belgium: pieces are carried to their rooms and whatever was dismantled is reassembled, with an external furniture lift ordered when needed.
Appliances raise one question before they are packed: will they work there? Belgium runs on 230 volts at 50 hertz with a socket of two round pins and an earth pin, and the Kingdom’s frequency is 60 hertz. Screens and computers need only a plug adaptor. For a washing machine, a fridge and anything driven by a motor, check the label; if it does not read 50/60 hertz, selling it in Riyadh is the better course. A split air conditioner is not worth shipping, since Belgian homes are heated, not cooled. Of those that do ship, the fridge is dried and the washing machine’s drum locked with its transit bolts, and how they are secured in the container is on the packing and lashing page.
The contents list is written during packing, not after it, carton by carton, in English, French or Dutch. It is the paper the Belgian clearing agent reads, and both the relief and the insurance are built on it. Details of the service are on the furniture shipping page, and packing methods in the packing guide.
Transfer-of-residence relief in Belgium
Belgium applies the European Union regime to the effects of anyone moving their normal residence to it from outside the Union: used belongings enter free of duty and tax if specific conditions are met. The request is submitted to the customs office with the import declaration, and rests on papers proving where you used to live and where you now live. These are the conditions in current practice, and we review those in force before loading:
| Condition | Detail |
|---|---|
| Previous residence | At least 12 consecutive months outside the European Union |
| Ownership and use | At least 6 months before you leave, so a new item in its box is not exempt |
| Deadline for entry | Within 12 months of settling in Belgium |
| Shipping before arrival | Possible with an undertaking to settle within 6 months; a financial security may be required |
| After entry | No lending, pledging, hiring out or selling for 12 months without notifying customs |
| What it does not cover | Alcohol, tobacco, commercial vehicles and non-portable tools of a trade |
| A private car | Covered by the relief on the same conditions, and decided by a higher customs office |
The papers the clearing agent usually asks for: a copy of the passport, a numbered and signed contents list, a letter from the employer in Riyadh with the start and end dates of employment, the certificate of registration at the Belgian commune of residence, and a power of attorney for the agent. The commune certificate is the one that tends to be late, because the address is visited before it is issued. So plan the container’s arrival around that, or ask us to store it until it is issued.
A full container or a shared container?
Choosing between them is first a matter of volume and then a matter of timing. A full container is booked for your shipment alone, so it moves when you are ready. A shared one combines your shipment with others bound for Antwerp, so it moves when it is full. Commercial goods on pallets go into either kind according to the number of pallets. This is what separates them:
| Comparison | Shared container | 20-foot container | 40-foot container |
|---|---|---|---|
| Suitable volume | Up to 15 cubic metres | 15–28 cubic metres | 30–60 cubic metres |
| Suits | A student’s cartons, one or two rooms | A flat of two or three rooms | A villa, or furniture with a car |
| Time from Riyadh | 32–41 days | 27–38 days | 27–38 days |
| Handling | Sorted in two warehouses | Sealed in Riyadh and opened at the consignee’s | Sealed in Riyadh and opened at the consignee’s |
| Price starts from | SAR 5,500 for furniture | SAR 11,000 for a house of furniture | Set on request |
If your volume stops at 13 or 14 cubic metres, ask for both prices together. The gap between them narrows at that point, and a container of your own spares your furniture two extra handlings in consolidation warehouses. The internal dimensions of each container are on the container sizes page.
Shipping parcels, baggage and gifts to Belgium
What leaves Riyadh for Belgium most often, by count, is the small parcel: a gift for a relative studying in Leuven, dates and coffee for a family that has moved to Brussels, or a document an office there is waiting for. All of these travel by air on the express service and are delivered to the address against the consignee’s signature. A student with many cartons combines a shared sea box with a suitcase by air.
- Price: starts from SAR 23 per kilogram on the chargeable weight, from SAR 110 for a parcel up to 5 kg, and from SAR 83 for documents.
- A gift between two individuals: in current practice it is exempt if its value does not exceed 45 euros and it is occasional and non-commercial; anything above that is taxed. We confirm the limit in force before sending.
- Leave out of the parcel: ghee, cheese, dried meat, bulk perfume and any lithium battery that is not fitted in a device.
- The address: street name, building number, flat box number and the four-digit postcode, plus the consignee’s mobile number.
Write the street name as it is written in its city: in Dutch in Antwerp, Ghent and Bruges, in French in Liège and Charleroi, and in either language in Brussels. How boxes are shipped is on the parcel shipping page.
Shipping commercial goods from Riyadh to Belgium

Commercial goods leave Riyadh on pallets, not in loose cartons. The pallet is lifted by forklift at the factory and set down in the importer’s warehouse the same way, so no hand touches it between the two countries. The factories of the Second Industrial City, Sudair and Al-Kharj export petrochemicals, dates and food products to Belgium, and Antwerp is their gateway to the whole European market, because whatever is cleared there then moves between the Union’s states without customs.
So far there is no free trade agreement lowering the duty on a Saudi product in Europe, so it is calculated on the European tariff heading for each commodity, with value added tax on top, 21% in most cases. We confirm the heading and the duty in force with the importer before shipping. The commercial file starts with two indispensable papers, a commercial invoice and a packing list, and then whatever is specific to each product is added:
| Product | Shipping method | What it needs in Belgium |
|---|---|---|
| Petrochemicals and polymers | Full container on pallets or in big bags | Safety data sheet, and registration of the substance by the importer under the European chemicals regime |
| Dates and date products | Dry or refrigerated container, by product | A label in the region’s language bearing the importer’s name, and a certificate of origin |
| Processed foods | Shared or full | Ingredients and allergens stated, and a veterinary certificate for anything of animal origin |
| Samples and exhibition items | Air | A sample invoice, or a temporary admission procedure for what will return |
There are three things we review with every exporter before the container is closed: the importer’s European customs identification number, without which the declaration cannot be lodged; the description of the goods and their six-digit customs code, because a security filing carrying them is sent to European customs before loading in Jeddah; and the pallet timber, which must be heat-treated and stamped. A full load is collected from the factory door, and a part load we add to a shared container. Details are on the commercial shipping page.
Car shipping from Riyadh to Belgium
A Riyadh car begins its journey on a transporter, not on its wheels. The transporter collects it from the house or showroom and sets it down at Jeddah port a day or two later, and there it ships in one of three ways. The method decides the Belgian port: RoRo vessels berth at Zeebrugge on the coast, one of the largest car ports in the world, and containers go to Antwerp.
| Method | How it ships | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| RoRo to Zeebrugge | A port driver takes it into the vessel’s hold and it is lashed by its wheels, uncovered and empty | A running car, and the lowest rate |
| 20-foot container to Antwerp | Secured with straps and timber chocks, then the container is sealed | Luxury and classic cars, and any with a dead engine |
| 40-foot container | The car with the household furniture, or two cars together | A family moving with its home |
The sea rate for a saloon starts from SAR 2,800 from Jeddah port, rises for a four-wheel drive because the charge is by volume, and the car’s haul from Riyadh is added. Anyone not covered by the transfer relief pays in Belgium a customs duty of 10% on the car’s value plus its freight, then 21% value added tax on the total. So a car worth SAR 80,000 bears a duty of SAR 8,280 and then tax of SAR 19,127, before registration tax.
After customs comes registration. In current practice customs notifies the vehicle registration authority that the car has been cleared, then it goes through a technical inspection, and a Gulf-specification car needs individual approval that may call for modification. Registration tax differs between Flanders, Wallonia and the Brussels region, and Brussels, Antwerp and Ghent have low-emission zones that older cars may not enter. So tell us your address and we will go through the rules in force with you before shipping. The general conditions are in the article car shipping from Saudi Arabia, and the two methods on the RoRo car shipping and container car shipping pages.
Belgian customs and the documents required
Customs in Belgium applies the common European tariff and collects the national value added tax, whose standard rate is 21%. The tax is calculated on the value of the goods plus the freight, the insurance and the customs duty. Clearance is normally lodged by a licensed clearing agent in the consignee’s name under a power of attorney signed by them. This is what each kind of shipment needs:
| Type of shipment | Documents | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Furniture and effects of someone moving residence | Passport, signed contents list, employer’s letter, commune certificate, agent’s power of attorney and bill of lading | The name on the bill matches the passport |
| A student’s baggage | Passport and residence permit, proof of enrolment at the university, and contents list | Accommodation address and room number |
| Commercial goods | Invoice and packing list, origin certificate, the bill of lading, and the customs identification number held by the importer | Extra certificates for foods and chemicals |
| Car | Registration and export certificate, purchase invoice or proof of value, passport and valid European insurance | Registration tax is checked by region |
| Parcel or gift | Sender’s ID and a statement of the items and their values | Full address and mobile number |
Before the shipment leaves the Kingdom we take care of its exit papers: an export declaration with Saudi customs, attestation of the certificate of origin by the Riyadh chamber if it is merchandise, and a copy of the final exit visa for a resident departing with his furniture. The complete list of papers is on the required documents page, and what happens at release on the customs clearance page.
What cannot be shipped to Belgium or needs a permit
The prohibition rules here are mostly European, and strictest on food of animal origin and on plants and raw timber. What most often lands families in a breach is the kitchen carton: a tin of ghee or labneh among the pans is enough for the carton to be opened and its contents destroyed. These are the main lines:
| Item | Ruling |
|---|---|
| Meat, dairy, ghee and cheeses | Prohibited in personal baggage and parcels |
| Plants, seeds, soil and untreated timber | With a phytosanitary certificate or a treatment stamp |
| Medicines | A personal quantity with a prescription; anything containing narcotics with prior permission |
| Weapons, ammunition and combat knives | Prohibited without a Belgian licence |
| Ivory, fur, skins of protected animals and taxidermy | With the international convention certificate, or confiscated |
| Counterfeit goods | Confiscated, and a fine may be imposed |
| Loose lithium batteries, perfumes and aerosols | Not shipped by air except on conditions; shipped by sea with a declaration |
The prohibited items page carries the general list. When an item leaves you in doubt, a photo sent to us before packing settles it.
Delivery in Brussels, Ghent, Liège and the other cities

The order in Belgium is fixed: clearance, then delivery. Our agent lodges the customs declaration in Antwerp, and once the release is issued the container leaves on a truck for the address that day or the next. The country is small enough that no main city is more than two hours from the port. So the challenge is not the road but the last minutes in front of the door of the house.
| City | Distance from the port of Antwerp | Delivery note |
|---|---|---|
| Antwerp and Mechelen | Up to 25 km | Delivery on the day of release; the streets of the old centre are narrow |
| Brussels | About 45 km | 19 communes, each with its own parking reservation procedure; most shipments go to the European quarter and its suburbs |
| Ghent | About 60 km | Its centre is closed to most vehicles, so an access permit is arranged |
| Bruges | About 95 km | A historic city that limits truck weight, so the shipment is moved on a smaller vehicle |
| Charleroi and Namur | 100–110 km | The Wallonia region, with dealings in French |
| Liège | About 130 km | The east of the country, and home to the cargo airport |
Furniture removal in Belgium has a custom unknown to someone arriving from Riyadh: the external furniture lift, a powered inclined ladder leaned against the facade on which pieces ride up to the upper-floor window instead of being forced up the stairs. The truck’s parking space in front of the house is reserved with the commune days ahead. We arrange both with our agent if you state the floor and the type of building when you book. For a resident just over the border in Luxembourg, Lille or Aachen, the furniture leaves Antwerp under a transit document and is cleared in their own country. Details of the destination are on the shipping to Belgium page.
Services for individuals, companies, government bodies and embassies
The individual wants to hand over the key and travel without chasing anyone. The company wants the goods to arrive before the supply date in its contract. The government body wants every step documented by a letter and a record. We build a path that suits each kind:
| Customer | What they need | What we provide |
|---|---|---|
| Individuals and families | A house or baggage moved without daily follow-up | A survey, an itemised price, and one coordinator from packing to reassembly |
| Companies and factories | Repeat shipments with supply dates | A periodic contract, a tax invoice, and a notice of each stage to the Belgian buyer |
| Embassies and consulates | Baggage of transferred staff and correspondence | Loading from the Diplomatic Quarter under a prior permit, and sealing the container in front of the embassy’s representative |
| Government bodies and universities | Exhibition equipment, delegations and printed matter | Commitment to the event date, a handover record, and return of whatever comes back afterwards |
The Diplomatic Quarter in west Riyadh houses the Belgian embassy, the European Union delegation and many embassies whose staff move to and from Brussels. A diplomat’s shipment is cleared in Belgium under an exemption decided by the foreign ministry there according to the officer’s status, not by the customs office directly. So we prepare the file with the embassy’s administration section and do not promise an exemption that has not been issued. Exhibits for fairs and conferences, for their part, enter under the temporary admission procedure free of duty and tax, provided they go back as they came in.
Air freight from Riyadh to Belgium

By air, Riyadh is ahead of the coastal cities: the shipment does not leave the city by road, and enters the cargo village at King Khalid Airport on the day it is collected. At the other end are two airports: Brussels, close to the capital, and Liège, one of the largest air cargo hubs in Europe. The shipment arrives direct or through an intermediate stop according to the flight schedule on the booking day, and the door-to-door time is 3 to 6 days.
- Who it is for: samples and urgent goods first, then spare parts, documents, parcels and students’ suitcases.
- Billed weight: the airline weighs the parcel and measures its dimensions, then charges on the higher of the two figures. The volumetric weight calculator works out the volumetric weight from the length, width and height.
- The rate: from SAR 23 for each kilogram, coming down the heavier the shipment gets. A document goes from SAR 83, and a small parcel not exceeding 5 kg from SAR 110.
- Delivery: to the address with clearance, or at the airport for anyone who has a clearing agent there.
- What it does not suit: household furniture and heavy low-value goods, whose air freight is sometimes several times their worth.
Details of the service are on the air freight page.
Air or sea, and is there land freight to Belgium?
There are only two real options. Whatever is weighed in kilograms or tied to a date that cannot slip boards the aircraft, and whatever is measured in cubic metres boards the vessel. Most people relocating combine the two in one file: the first week’s suitcases by air, and the whole house by sea. This comparison is from Riyadh specifically:
| Comparison | Air | Sea |
|---|---|---|
| Time from Riyadh | 3–6 days | 27–41 days |
| Exit point | King Khalid Airport in Riyadh itself | Jeddah port, or the dry port then Dammam |
| Unit of calculation | The kilogram on the chargeable weight | The cubic metre or the container |
| Best for | Samples, documents and parcels | Furniture, cars and goods on pallets |
| Price starts from | SAR 23 per kilogram | SAR 5,500 for a part load |
Land freight, however, we do not rely on to Belgium. The truck crosses the borders of many countries with different transit regimes, and its cost and risks are higher than those of a container that arrives sealed. The role of road with us is confined to inside the Kingdom, from your home to the airport or port, and then in Belgium from the quay to the door. The full comparison is on the shipping methods comparison page.
Collection from Riyadh districts and nearby towns
The packing crew goes out to any district of the capital: Al-Malqa, Hittin, Al-Narjis and Al-Yasmin in the north, Al-Rawdah, Ishbiliyah and Al-Naseem in the east, Al-Olaya, Al-Sulaimaniyah and Al-Malaz in the centre, Irqah and Dhahrat Laban in the west, and Al-Shifa and Al-Aziziyah in the south. We also collect from the governorates around Riyadh and add their shipments to the capital’s run to the port:
| Place | Distance from Riyadh | How we collect |
|---|---|---|
| Riyadh districts | Inside the city | From the door, with dismantling and packing on site |
| The Diplomatic Quarter and gated compounds | Inside the city | Under an entry permit requested in advance |
| Al-Muzahimiyah | About 60 km west | It lies on the Jeddah road, so it is loaded as the truck passes |
| Al-Kharj | About 80 km south | Brought to our warehouse before the day of the run |
| Al-Majmaah and Sudair | About 180 km north | Factory goods by prior appointment |
| Qassim | About 350 km | Added to the Riyadh run, dates in particular |
For what else we do in the capital, read international shipping company in Riyadh; the service cities page names every other place we collect from.

- The papers: the contents list and employer’s letter for an individual, and the invoice, packing list and certificate of origin for a trader.
- Packing and loading: at your home or factory, with every piece numbered and your signature on the inventory.
- To the airport or port: the cargo village at King Khalid Airport, a truck to Jeddah, or a train from the dry port.
- Sailing or take-off: you receive the container or air waybill number, and a message at each stop.
- Clearance, then delivery: the agent clears in Antwerp or at the airport, and sets the delivery and unloading day with you.
Insurance and after-shipping services
The liability of the sea and air carrier is limited by international conventions, and is calculated by weight, not value. So a marble table that breaks is compensated by its weight, not its price, if it carries no insurance. That is why we offer insurance as a separate item, and stay with you after delivery, not just until sailing.
- Cover: loss and damage from the door in Riyadh to the door in Belgium, on the value you write against each line.
- Tracking: by container number on the shipping line’s site or by air waybill number. The method is on the track your shipment page.
- On delivery: open and check with the crew present, and write any remark on the delivery note before you sign.
- The claim: we lodge it for you with the photos, the note and the list, and follow it until it is paid. The terms are on the cargo insurance page.
- After delivery: reassembly of what was dismantled, removal of packing waste, and storage of whatever the new home has no room for. Details are on the door-to-door shipping and storage pages.
Shipping from Belgium to Riyadh
The route works in both directions. From Belgium, machinery and industrial equipment, medicines, chemicals and chocolate come to Riyadh, along with the baggage of students who have returned and families whose posting has ended. Our agent collects from the factory, house or shop.
- By air: Brussels or Liège to King Khalid Airport, with clearance there and a van to your district afterwards.
- By sea: from Antwerp to Jeddah or Dammam port, then by truck or container train to the dry port in Riyadh.
- Used effects: they enter the Kingdom as a returnee’s personal effects with a contents list; new items carry a duty by item and 15% value added tax.
- Commercial goods: whatever the Saudi technical regulations cover is registered on the Saber platform and issued a certificate of conformity before shipping.
Home Safe tips before shipping from Riyadh to Belgium
- Choose the method by the size of the shipment, not by your hurry: above 100 kg the sea becomes cheaper by a wide margin.
- Ask the landlord of the Belgian house for a photo of the stairs and the door before you decide which pieces to ship.
- Set the loading date in Riyadh four weeks before you travel, so the container arrives once you have registered at the commune.
- Get the employer’s letter with the start and end dates ready before you hand in your work card.
- Keep with you on the plane the original certificates, medicines, the computer and anything irreplaceable.
- Keep a paper copy of the contents list and the bill of lading; the agent may ask for it before it reaches your inbox.
How do you choose a shipping company from Riyadh to Belgium?
Offers vary widely for the same shipment, and the variation is mostly not in the sea rate but in what has been left out of the offer. These questions show you the complete offer from the incomplete one:
| What you ask about | A reassuring answer | A worrying answer |
|---|---|---|
| Legal status | Commercial registration, a contract and a stamped receipt | A transfer to an individual’s account with no paper |
| Port of exit | Names Jeddah or Dammam and explains why | “Straight from Riyadh by sea” |
| Port of arrival | Antwerp for a container and Zeebrugge for a RoRo car | Does not know the difference between them |
| The Belgian relief | Asks about your length of residence and the commune certificate | “No customs on used goods”, unconditionally |
| Delivery | Asks about the floor, the stairs and the external lift | “To the door” without a single question |
| Price | Items: collection, road, sea, clearance, delivery | One figure from one photo |
Common mistakes when shipping from Riyadh to Belgium
- Sending the container to arrive before its owner: no commune certificate, no relief, and storage charged every day.
- Shipping a six-door wardrobe to a house whose stairs barely take a suitcase.
- Writing “household items” on the list instead of detailing each carton.
- Leaving a tin of ghee or cheese in the kitchen carton.
- Shipping motor-driven appliances that do not run on 50 hertz.
- Clearing a shipment in Belgium when it is bound for Luxembourg or France, so the tax is paid in the wrong country.
- Comparing an offer to the port with an offer to the room as if they were one service.
Why Home Safe, and what do customers on this route experience?
We do not publish testimonials the reader cannot check. What we set out instead is what recurs with us on the Riyadh–Belgium route: a family transferred to Brussels with its home in a 40-foot container and suitcases going ahead by air, a factory supplying a buyer in Antwerp with a container of pallets every month, and a student in Leuven with eight cartons in a shared container. Each case has a different customs file, which we prepare before loading, not after arrival.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Riyadh to Belgium
What is the best shipping company from Riyadh to Belgium?
The best one answers three things before it names a price: which port a Riyadh container leaves from, whether the Belgian relief applies to you, and how large pieces get into a house with a narrow staircase. Home Safe is an establishment with commercial registration 4030601060 that collects from your door in Riyadh and delivers to your address in Belgium under one file.
How much do air and sea freight from Riyadh to Belgium cost?
Air goes from SAR 23 a kilogram, SAR 83 for documents and SAR 110 for a parcel no heavier than 5 kg. Sea goes from SAR 5,500 for furniture in a shared container, SAR 11,000 for a whole-house container and SAR 2,800 for a saloon out of Jeddah port. The Riyadh-to-port road leg is set on request.
What is the cheapest way to ship furniture and goods from Riyadh to Belgium?
The sea, always. Under 15 cubic metres a shared container is cheaper, because you pay for your own metres only. Above that, a 20-foot container to yourself costs less per metre and is safer for the furniture.
Does the price differ by district in Riyadh and by type of shipment?
The sea and air rates do not change with the district; what changes is the collection item: the district’s distance from the warehouse, whether there is a lift, and a compound entry permit. The type of shipment, though, changes the whole unit of calculation: the kilogram for a parcel, the cubic metre for furniture, the container for a house, and the category for a car.
How long does a shipment take from Riyadh until it reaches Belgium?
A full container takes 27 to 38 days from the door of the house in Riyadh to the consignee’s door, of which 14 to 20 days are sailing between Jeddah and Antwerp. A shared container takes 32 to 41 days because of consolidation and sorting. Air freight takes 3 to 6 days.
There is no port in Riyadh, so where does my shipment sail from?
From Jeddah Islamic Port in most cases, which the container reaches on a truck covering about 950 km. The alternative is the container train from the Riyadh dry port to King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam. We choose between them on the booking day according to the date of the nearest vessel bound for Antwerp.
Why the port of Antwerp and not another port?
Because it is Belgium’s main container port and the second largest port in Europe, and a truck reaches the Belgian city farthest from it in about two hours. A car driven on to a RoRo vessel comes off at the Zeebrugge quay, which belongs to the same port on the North Sea coast.
Do I pay customs on my used furniture in Belgium?
You do not if you are moving your normal residence there and meet the relief conditions in current practice: 12 consecutive months outside the European Union, ownership and use of the goods for 6 months, and bringing them in within 12 months of settling. Anyone not covered by the relief pays a duty by item and 21% value added tax.
Do you ship a car from Riyadh to Belgium?
Yes. It is carried on a transporter to Jeddah port, then sails on a RoRo vessel to Zeebrugge or in a container to Antwerp. The sea rate for a saloon starts from SAR 2,800, and its haul from Riyadh is added. Registering it there needs clearance, a technical inspection and conformity approval.
Which documents do you ask for with a commercial shipment?
A commercial invoice, a packing list, a certificate of origin and the bill of lading, plus the Belgian importer’s European customs identification number. We need an accurate description of every item and its customs code, because the container’s data goes ahead of it to European customs.
Will my electrical appliances work in Belgium?
The voltage is close, but the frequency in Belgium is 50 hertz and in the Kingdom 60, and the socket is different. Electronic devices work with a plug adaptor. For anything with a motor or compressor, check its label; if the words 50/60 hertz are missing, do not ship it.
Do you deliver to Ghent, Liège and Bruges, or to Brussels only?
We deliver to every Belgian city: Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent, Liège, Bruges, Charleroi, Leuven, Namur and others. The country is small, and the farthest of these cities is no more than 130 km from the port, so delivery takes place a day or two after customs release.
What must not be put in a shipment to Belgium?
Meat and dairy and their products in personal baggage and parcels, counterfeits, weapons without a licence, and plants without a phytosanitary certificate. Medicines travel in a personal quantity with their prescription, and loose lithium batteries are not shipped by air.
Is insurance included in the shipping price?
No. It is an optional item calculated as a percentage of the value written in the contents list. We consider it necessary for household furniture, a car and merchandise, since a Riyadh shipment covers a long road leg before the sea and then passes through two ports.
Do you collect shipments from Belgium to Riyadh?
Yes. Our agent in Belgium collects from the house, shop or factory, and the shipment travels by air to King Khalid Airport or by sea to Jeddah or Dammam port and then by land to Riyadh. Commercial goods covered by the technical regulations need a Saudi certificate of conformity before they leave Belgium.
