Home Safe is a shipping company from Riyadh to France handling furniture, baggage, parcels, goods and cars on two lines: sea containers that berth at the port of Le Havre or Marseille-Fos, and air freight departing from King Khalid Airport for Charles de Gaulle Airport. The two airports are about 4,650 km apart, which the aircraft covers in roughly six and a half hours, whereas a container reaches the consignee’s address four to five weeks after it is loaded. An air kilogram starts from SAR 23, part-load furniture from SAR 5,500, and a saloon car by sea from SAR 2,800. To book: 0552803439.

Who ships from Riyadh to France, and what do they ship?
The line between the two capitals is busier than people assume. Riyadh has a French community working on transport, energy and hospitality projects, a French international school, an embassy in the Diplomatic Quarter, Saudi families who own flats in Paris and on the Riviera, and students heading for universities in Paris, Lyon and Toulouse. Each of these enters French customs in a different capacity, which is why we ask about your status before we ask about the volume:
| Shipper | What they mostly ship | Best method | Status before French customs |
|---|---|---|---|
| A French national returning at the end of a contract | Household furniture, appliances and sometimes a car | 20ft or 40ft container | Transferring residence, with relief on its conditions |
| A Saudi family moving for work or long treatment | Baggage and a few pieces of furniture | Shared container plus air suitcases | The same relief if the move of residence is proven |
| The owner of a flat in Paris or Nice | Carpets, majlis seating, ornaments and paintings | Part load in timber crates | Second home: duty and 20% tax |
| Student or scholarship holder | Books, clothes and room items | Boxes in a shared container | Student relief on proof of enrolment |
| Trader and factory | Dates, perfumes, oud and food products | Container for volume, air for samples | Importer with a European identification number |
| Embassy and official body | Correspondence, staff baggage and exhibits | Air for documents, sea for baggage | According to the body’s letter and the consignee’s status |
The shipping route from Riyadh to France and its transit time
A container closed in a Riyadh district passes six stations before it is opened in a French flat. The longest is the sea, but the road to Jeddah, the wait for the vessel and French customs take their days too. So we count the transit time from the loading day to the unloading day, and this is the breakdown for a full container bound for Le Havre:
| Station | What happens | Usual duration |
|---|---|---|
| Your home in Riyadh | Dismantling, packing, numbering and writing the inventory | 1–2 days |
| The road to Jeddah port | About 950 km west on the motorway | 1–2 days |
| Export and waiting for the vessel | Export declaration and handing the container to the shipping line | 3–7 days |
| Sailing to Le Havre | Suez, then the Mediterranean, Gibraltar and the Bay of Biscay | 13–18 days |
| French customs | Import declaration and the relief file or payment of tax | 2–5 working days |
| Delivery inside France | Truck from the port to the address, with unloading | 1–3 days |
The transit time changes with the method and the port. The French south is closer by sea because its vessel does not sail round Spain, and a shared container is slower than a dedicated one. These times run from Riyadh to the consignee’s door:
| Method | Route | Time from Riyadh | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full container via Le Havre | Riyadh → Jeddah → Le Havre → Paris and the north | 27–38 days | A full household bound for Paris, Lille or Nantes |
| Full container via Marseille-Fos | Riyadh → Jeddah → Fos → the south | 24–33 days | A household bound for Lyon, Nice or Toulouse |
| Shared container | Consolidated in the Kingdom and sorted in a French warehouse | 32–42 days | Students’ cartons and one or two rooms |
| Car by RoRo or container | Carrier to Jeddah, then a vessel | 28–40 days | A private car |
| Air | King Khalid Airport → Charles de Gaulle | 3–6 days | Suitcases, parcels, samples and documents |
What lengthens the transit time?
- Transhipment: some lines discharge the container at an intermediate Mediterranean port and a second vessel carries it on, which stretches the sailing to about 26 days.
- Vessel rerouting: the Cape of Good Hope route instead of Suez adds a week or more to the sailing, and we confirm the route on the booking day.
- An incomplete inventory: a list with no signature or no values is sent back by French customs.
- The month of August: France is on holiday, and clearing agents and hoist companies are slower.
- The hoist appointment in Paris: no delivery to an upper-floor flat before the parking permit is issued.
Times for other destinations are on the transit times page.
Sea freight from Riyadh to France via Le Havre

Le Havre is France’s sea gate on the English Channel and its largest container port, and most goods for Paris and its region come in through it. A container from Jeddah reaches it after crossing Suez, the Mediterranean and the Strait of Gibraltar. Some vessels berth there directly on the Asia–North Europe lines that call at Jeddah, and some reach it with transhipment; we tell you the type of sailing when booking. From the quay to Paris is about 200 km.
For those living in the south of France there is another port that saves time and distance: Marseille-Fos on the Mediterranean, which the vessel reaches in 9 to 13 days from Jeddah. So the rule we work by is simple: the port follows the city, not the other way round.
| Comparison | Le Havre | Marseille-Fos |
|---|---|---|
| Location | The north-west, on the English Channel | The south, on the Mediterranean |
| Sailing from Jeddah | 13–18 days, longer with transhipment | 9–13 days |
| Cities it serves | Paris, Lille, Rouen, Rennes, Nantes | Marseille, Lyon, Nice, Montpellier, Toulouse |
| Container size | 20ft or 40ft, full or shared | 20ft or 40ft, full or shared |
| When we choose it | The address is north of the Lyon line | The address is in the south and a sailing is available on your date |
The service and its stages are explained on the sea freight page, and what happens to the container inside the Saudi port in the article international sea freight from Jeddah.
From Riyadh to the sea: a truck to Jeddah or a train to Dammam?
The capital sits in the heart of Najd, and the nearest coast is hundreds of kilometres away. Its sea shipment therefore pays an item a Jeddah shipment never sees: inland haulage to the port. We choose between two ways by where the vessel is going, not by how near the port is: Jeddah is farther by road but cuts a week off the sailing towards France, while Dammam is nearer by road but its vessel starts from the Arabian Gulf.
| Item | Truck to Jeddah Islamic Port | Dry port, then train to Dammam |
|---|---|---|
| Inland route | About 950 km west on the Riyadh–Makkah road | The container railway east to King Abdulaziz Port |
| Where the export declaration is made | Jeddah port | Riyadh, and the container leaves under customs seal |
| Direction of the vessel | North to Suez directly | The Strait of Hormuz, the Arabian Sea, then the Red Sea |
| What we send on it | Household furniture, baggage and cars | Factory goods when the line’s sailing suits |
Furniture reaches Jeddah in one of two ways. A whole household has its container standing at your door, sealed after loading. A part load travels packed in a closed truck with other Riyadh shipments to the consolidation warehouse near the port, so the cost of the road is shared. We book the vessel space before the truck moves so that storage charges do not build up in the port.
Shipping price from Riyadh to France
The question “how much is shipping to France?” has no single answer, because each type is measured in its own unit: a parcel by the kilogram, a little furniture by the cubic metre, a household by the container, and a car by its size. These are the figures our services on this line start from:
| What you ship | Method | Price starts from |
|---|---|---|
| Suitcases, parcels and samples | Air from King Khalid Airport | SAR 23 per kilogram |
| Documents up to one kilogram | Express | SAR 83 |
| Parcel up to 5 kg | Express | SAR 110 |
| Furniture and baggage | Part load in a shared container | SAR 5,500 |
| Full household furniture | Full container | SAR 11,000 |
| Saloon car | Sea from Jeddah port | SAR 2,800 |
| Haulage from Riyadh to the port | Truck or car carrier | Set on request |
| Furniture hoist and parking permit in Paris | On delivery | Set on request |
An air calculation example: an employee in the Olaya district sends his daughter in Lyon four cartons with a chargeable weight of 40 kg, so the freight is 40 × 23, that is from SAR 920. Had there been fifteen cartons, the cubic metre in a shared container would have been far cheaper for him.
Prices circulating in the market for this line are few and uneven, and most websites settle for promises of a discount with no figure. What is actually published: an air parcel under 10 kg from about SAR 500, reaching between SAR 1,500 and 3,500, a medium parcel of electronics from about SAR 900, a 20ft container from about SAR 6,500, and a 40ft container from SAR 12,000 that may reach SAR 18,000 to 25,000, with insurance between 1% and 3% of the value. On international platforms an express documents envelope starts from about 37 euros and a parcel from about 41 euros before tax, commercial air freight is quoted at 2 to 5 euros per kilogram, and the ocean freight alone from Jeddah to Marseille at about 1,348 dollars for a 20ft container and 1,898 dollars for a 40ft container. The gap comes from what the figure includes: the ocean freight only, or the service to the door.
| What moves the price | How it shows in a Riyadh shipment |
|---|---|
| Volume and weight | Cubic metres by sea and chargeable weight by air. Estimate your volume with the CBM calculator |
| Haulage to the port | A long road to Jeddah, of which your share falls when your shipment joins a consolidated run |
| The French port | Fos is a shorter sailing, and Le Havre is nearer to Paris |
| The address | A house with a garden in the suburbs is not a fifth-floor flat in central Paris |
| The season | Summer is the season of returnees and scholarship students, and early booking fixes the price |
How do you lower the cost?
- Choose the port nearest to your city, since a road kilometre in France costs more than a nautical mile.
- Add your furniture to our consolidated run from Riyadh to Jeddah instead of a dedicated truck.
- Prepare the relief file in full, since 20% tax outweighs any discount we give on the freight.
- Sell in Riyadh what does not run on 50 hertz and what will not fit a French flat.
- Send only the essentials by air, and leave the rest to the container.
Each item is explained on the pricing factors page.
Shipping household furniture from Riyadh to France
A villa in north Riyadh and a flat in the sixteenth arrondissement of Paris are two different worlds in floor area. The living room there may not take half your majlis, the door is narrower than your wardrobe, and the staircase is a spiral. So we start a furniture move from its end: we ask for photos of the French home and the measurements of its door and window, then go through the pieces with you and decide the fate of each one.
- The survey: a visit to the house or a video tour, which produces a schedule of the pieces and an estimated volume in cubic metres.
- Dismantling: bedrooms, bookcases and dining tables become flat panels, each panel with its number and its bag of screws.
- What cannot be dismantled: sofas, a piano and antique cabinets are measured, and we compare the measurement with the window opening they will enter through by hoist.
- Loading day: one crew packs, loads and writes the inventory, and you sign it before the door is closed.
- In France: the agent’s crew carries the pieces into their rooms, reassembles what was dismantled and takes the packing waste away.
In Riyadh’s gated residential compounds the truck and the names of the crew are registered with the management before the appointment. If you hand over your house before your French home is ready, the furniture stays in our warehouse packed and inventoried until you authorise shipping it, and the terms are on the storage page. Details of the service are on the furniture shipping page.
Packing furniture in Riyadh before shipping it to France

A piece of furniture leaving Riyadh is lifted and set down at least six times before it settles: the truck, then the container, then the quay, then a French truck, then the hoist, then the room. It crosses the heat of the Red Sea and the damp of the Atlantic. So we pack to export standard and write the inventory at the same moment.
- Timber crates for sensitive pieces: paintings, mirrors, chandeliers and marble and glass tops are fixed inside a crate of heat-treated timber bearing the ISPM 15 stamp, a condition for raw wood entering the European Union.
- Lacquered and inlaid wood: soft paper, then a blanket, then corrugated board, with no plastic touching the surface so that it does not sweat underneath.
- Hand-made carpets: cleaned and rolled on a tube, and covered with material that lets them breathe, with moisture-absorbing sachets.
- Numbering every piece: a numbered label on each carton, panel and piece, with the same number in the inventory and on the room plan.
- A detailed contents list: written in French: package number, contents and used value. “Carton 12 : vêtements d’hiver usagés”, not “miscellaneous items”.
This list is one sheet with three jobs: the French customs inventory, the basis of the insurance policy, and the delivery crew’s guide to the rooms. Packing methods for each material are in the packing guide, and securing the load inside the container on the packing and lashing page.
Transfer-of-residence relief in France
French customs relieve from duty and tax anyone moving their main residence to France from outside the European Union, whether a returning French national or a Saudi moving on a long-stay permit. The relief is claimed at clearance with a paper file, so the key is for the file to be complete before the container arrives. These are its conditions in current practice, and we review those in force with you before loading:
| Condition | Detail |
|---|---|
| Previous residence | At least 12 months outside the European Union |
| Use of the goods | At least 6 months before the move, for personal use |
| Deadline for entry | Within 12 months of the date of moving residence, and in more than one shipment if all are listed in the first inventory |
| After entry | No sale, rental, loan or pledge for 12 months |
| The inventory | Detailed, valued, dated and signed, in two copies |
| The form | The duty-free entry declaration known by the number 10070 |
| What it does not cover | Alcohol, tobacco, commercial vehicles and non-portable professional equipment |
| A second home | Its furniture is outside the relief, and duty and tax are paid on it |
Residence in Riyadh is proven by the residence permit or the final exit visa, a registered tenancy contract, and a certificate from the employer stating the length of service. On the French side, a tenancy contract, a title deed or a letter of appointment. A car entering under the relief is given a customs certificate with which it is registered. Anything new in its box, however, is treated by customs as merchandise.
A full container or a shared container?
Volume settles the decision, and the dividing line is usually at 15 cubic metres. Below it you pay for the metres you occupy inside a container shared by several shippers. Above it, booking a container for yourself becomes cheaper and safer, because it is sealed in Riyadh and opened only at the consignee’s.
| Comparison | Shared container | 20ft container | 40ft container |
|---|---|---|---|
| Capacity | Up to 15 m³ of your goods | About 28 m³ | About 58 m³, more for a high cube |
| What it takes from a Riyadh home | Cartons and one or two rooms | A two- to three-bedroom flat after dismantling | A villa, or furniture with a car |
| Time to the door | 32–42 days | 27–38 days via Le Havre | 27–38 days via Le Havre |
| Price starts from | SAR 5,500 | SAR 11,000 for full household furniture | Set on request |
In Paris a 40ft container cannot enter most inner streets, so it is unloaded at the agent’s warehouse outside the city and the furniture is carried on a smaller truck, which enters into the price. The internal dimensions of each container are on the container sizes page.
Shipping personal parcels and student baggage from Riyadh to France
Most of what Riyadh residents send to France is cartons, not households: a mother sending her son studying in Toulouse dates, coffee and clothes, or a family whose suitcases go ahead of them to the summer flat. A small parcel travels by air and is handed over within days, and once the cartons exceed ten the sea becomes cheaper.
- Price: starts from SAR 23 per kilogram of chargeable weight, and from SAR 110 for a parcel of up to 5 kg.
- A gift between individuals: in current practice a non-commercial consignment worth no more than 45 euros is relieved, and anything above that is charged duty and tax. We confirm the threshold in force before sending.
- Dates, coffee, cardamom and spices: accepted in personal quantities in sealed packs showing the contents.
- Student baggage: the cartons are handed to us five weeks before travel if they go by sea, and a week before if they go by air.
- The French address: building number, street, postcode, building door code and the consignee’s name as it appears on the letterbox, plus a French mobile number.
The types of parcel and how each is charged are on the parcel shipping page.
Shipping electronic devices from Riyadh to France
Before you ask how to ship a device, ask: will it work there? Electricity in France is 230 volts at 50 hertz, and in the Kingdom 230 volts at 60 hertz, and the French socket takes two round pins. Anything with an electronic power supply adapts by itself, while anything with a motor or compressor may run hot or weaken. So we sort the devices with you before packing:
| Device | Does it work in France? | How we ship it |
|---|---|---|
| Computer, phone, monitor and camera | Yes, with a plug adaptor | By air in its original box or a padded carton, with its serial number in the inventory |
| Television, sound system and games console | Mostly yes; check the label | By sea in a crate that protects the screen from pressure |
| Fridge, washing machine and dryer | Only if 50 hertz is written on the label | By sea after drying and securing the moving parts |
| Air conditioner and water heater | Not worth shipping | Sold in Riyadh |
Air freight has an extra restriction: a device with its battery inside travels with a declaration, while loose lithium batteries and power banks are rejected at security screening. We write the value of each device in the inventory because insurance pays on the written value.
Shipping commercial goods from Riyadh to France
France is a way into the European Union market: goods cleared at Le Havre then move on to Belgium or Germany with no second customs. The exporter in Riyadh needs a French importer with a European customs identification number, an invoice with the correct tariff heading, and a product label in French. We start from your factory in the Second Industrial City, in Sudair or in Al-Kharj.
| Item | Shipping method | What entry into France requires |
|---|---|---|
| Dates and date products | Dry container, or refrigerated for soft varieties | A label in French, a certificate of origin and a phytosanitary certificate when requested |
| Oriental perfumes and oud oil | Sea, and air with a flammable-goods declaration | A cosmetic product file and a responsible person inside the Union |
| Abayas and textiles | Sea by the cubic metre, or air | A fibre-composition label and country of origin |
| Samples and exhibition goods | Air | A sample invoice, or a temporary admission carnet for what will return to Riyadh |
Duty is charged according to the item’s heading in the European tariff, with 20% value added tax on top in most cases and a reduced rate for food. A regular exporter gets a fixed loading schedule and a single account manager. Details are on the commercial shipping page.
Car shipping from Riyadh to France
A Saudi car has its steering wheel on the left like French cars, so driving is no problem. The problem is the arithmetic: the sea freight is the smallest item on the bill, and after it come duty, tax, technical conformity and an environmental tax at registration. The transport starts with a car carrier from Riyadh to Jeddah port, then one of these ways at sea:
| Method | How the car is shipped | When we recommend it |
|---|---|---|
| RoRo | Driven on to the vessel’s deck and lashed by its tyres, with nothing inside it | An ordinary running car, when a sailing to a French or neighbouring port is available |
| 20ft container | Secured with straps and timber chocks, and the container sealed | Luxury, classic and non-running cars |
| 40ft container | The car at the front and the furniture behind a partition | Someone returning to France with both home and car |
The sea freight for a saloon starts from SAR 2,800 from Jeddah port, and four-wheel-drive cars are higher because the charge is by size. In France, current practice works like this: 10% customs duty on the value of the car plus its freight, then 20% value added tax on the total, after which customs issue a certificate without which there is no registration. Next comes individual technical approval for cars with no European certificate of conformity, then the environmental tax calculated on the engine’s emissions, which falls with the age of the car and rises steeply for large engines.
A rough example: a car worth SAR 60,000 with freight of SAR 2,800 carries duty of SAR 6,280 and tax of SAR 13,816, before conformity and the environmental tax. Anyone bringing it in under the transfer-of-residence relief is spared the duty and the tax. The general conditions are in the article car shipping from Saudi Arabia, and the two methods on the RoRo car shipping and container car shipping pages.
French customs and the documents required
Clearance in France is electronic, lodged by an approved clearing agent in the consignee’s name. The rule for anyone without relief: duty by item, then 20% value added tax on the value plus freight, insurance and the duty. We send the file to our French agent while the vessel is still in the Red Sea, so that the papers arrive before the container.
| Type of shipment | Documents | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Furniture and baggage of someone moving residence | Passport, the signed inventory in two copies, the relief form, proof of the previous and the new residence, and the bill of lading | The name on the bill of lading matches the passport letter for letter |
| Student baggage | Passport and visa, enrolment certificate and contents list | The residence address and a French mobile number |
| Furniture for a second home | Passport, an inventory with values and the bill of lading | The tax is paid before release |
| Commercial goods | Commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin and the importer’s customs identification number | Extra certificates for food and cosmetics |
| Car | Registration card, export certificate and plates, passport and purchase invoice | The chassis number clear and matching |
| Parcel or gift | Sender’s ID and a statement of the items and their value | A plain description, not just “gifts” |
The export declaration is issued by us before the shipment leaves the Kingdom, and anyone who has ended their residency attaches a copy of the final exit visa. The meaning of each paper and its issuing body are on the shipping documents page, and the stages of release on the customs clearance page.
What cannot be shipped to France or needs a permit
Two categories stop baggage shipments from the Gulf to France more than any other: counterfeits and animal-origin food. The first is bought in popular markets without a second thought, and the second goes into the kitchen carton in good faith. We go through this list with you at the survey:
| Item | Ruling |
|---|---|
| Counterfeit bags, watches, clothes and perfumes | Possession is an offence punished under French law; they are confiscated and destroyed and a fine is imposed |
| Meat, dairy, ghee, cheese and honey in quantity | Prohibited in personal baggage and parcels |
| Plants, seeds, seedlings and soil | With a phytosanitary certificate |
| Medicines | A personal course of treatment with a prescription |
| Ivory, coral, skins and protected timber | Prohibited without the certificate of the international convention on endangered species |
| Antiquities and old manuscripts | Declared, and they need an export licence from the Kingdom |
| Weapons, daggers and swords | Prohibited or restricted by licence |
| Cash, gold and original documents | Do not go in the container; they stay with the traveller |
The general list is on the prohibited items page. Whatever you hesitate over, photograph it for us before the carton is closed on it.
Delivery in Paris, Lyon, Toulouse and other French cities

After release our French agent agrees the day and the hour with the consignee. Paris has old buildings with small lifts, so the furniture goes up from outside by hoist to the window. Lyon is a city of hills and lanes in its old quarters. Toulouse and Bordeaux have roomier houses and easier entrances. In every case the service is unloading into the rooms and assembling what was dismantled in Riyadh.
| City | Best port | Approximate road distance | Delivery note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paris and its suburbs | Le Havre | About 200 km | External hoist and parking permit, and a small truck for the inner streets |
| Lyon | Fos, or Le Havre | About 300 km from Fos, and about 660 km from Le Havre | The old quarters need a small van |
| Toulouse | Fos, or Le Havre | About 400 km from Fos, and about 850 km from Le Havre | A university city, with many shipments for students |
| Marseille | Fos | About 50 km | Delivery on the day of release or the next |
| Nice and the Riviera | Fos | About 250 km | Narrow coastal streets and limited parking in summer |
| Bordeaux | Le Havre or Fos | About 650 km from either | One to two days are added |
| Lille, Strasbourg, Nantes and Montpellier | According to the region | 300–700 km | Added to a weekly distribution round |
What we need from you for delivery to succeed first time: the floor number, the size of the lift, the width of the window facing the street and the building door code. The parking permit is requested from the arrondissement town hall days before the appointment, so we do not fix a delivery day in Paris before it is issued. The destination network is on the shipping destinations page.
Services for individuals, organisations, companies, embassies and consulates
An individual wants to hand over the keys of a house in Riyadh without following a port or a customs office. A company wants shipments that leave on time and are entered in its books. A diplomatic mission wants a procedure that respects its status. The service is the same at heart, and its arrangement differs:
| Customer | What they ask for | How we serve them |
|---|---|---|
| Individuals and families | A household or baggage move at a price known in advance | A survey, an itemised price and one coordinator from loading to assembly |
| Students | A few cartons at the lowest cost | Shared boxes and delivery after arrival at the residence |
| Companies and organisations | Repeated shipments and orderly paperwork | An annual contract, a tax invoice and a periodic report on shipment status |
| Government bodies and universities | Exhibits, delegations, books and event equipment | Commitment to the opening date and return of what comes back after the close |
| Embassies and consulates | A transferred employee’s baggage, correspondence and equipment | Coordination with the administration and loading from the Diplomatic Quarter by permit |
An envelope of official documents starts from SAR 83 and is handed over against the signature of the named person. The Diplomatic Quarter has security gates, so we send the truck details and the crew’s IDs before the loading day, and the mission’s letter is part of the clearance file. The full service is explained on the door-to-door shipping page.
Air freight from Riyadh to France

Air has an advantage in Riyadh that the sea does not: the airport is inside the city. The shipment reaches the cargo village at King Khalid Airport in an hour or two, where it is weighed and X-ray screened, then loaded on one of the daily direct flights to Charles de Gaulle. After clearance it is delivered in Paris within a day, and in Lyon, Toulouse or Marseille within a day or two. The whole transit is 3 to 6 days to the address.
- What it suits: urgent baggage and parcels, students’ suitcases, samples, spare parts and small high-value devices.
- How it is charged: we compare the scale weight with the volumetric weight and take the higher. The volumetric figure is the carton’s three dimensions in centimetres multiplied together and then divided by 6000, ready-made in the volumetric weight calculator.
- Price: a kilogram from SAR 23, getting cheaper the heavier the shipment, a documents envelope from SAR 83, and a parcel of no more than 5 kg from SAR 110.
- Scope of service: to the airport for those with a clearing agent there, or to the address with clearance.
- What is rejected at screening: loose lithium batteries, perfumes in quantity, aerosols and any flammable liquid.
- What it does not suit: furniture and large appliances, whose freight by aircraft is several times their freight by ship.
As for land, we do not rely on it for France: the road crosses many countries and borders, and a sealed container costs less and risks less. Details of the service are on the air freight page, and the weighing-up of the methods on the shipping methods comparison page.
Collection from Riyadh districts and nearby towns
The crew comes to your district wherever it lies: Al-Malqa, Hittin, Al-Narjis and Al-Yasmin in the north, Al-Rawdah, Al-Naseem and Qurtubah in the east, Olaya, Sulaymaniyah and Al-Malaz in the centre, Tuwaiq and Al-Uraija in the west, and Al-Shifa and Al-Aziziyah in the south. We also collect from the governorates of the region and add their shipments to the capital’s run:
| Collection point | Distance from Riyadh | How we collect |
|---|---|---|
| Districts of the capital | Inside the city | From the door, with packing on site |
| The Diplomatic Quarter and gated residential compounds | Inside the city | With the truck and crew registered at the gate in advance |
| Diriyah | Adjoining the capital | With the north-west Riyadh round |
| Al-Muzahimiyah | About 60 km | It lies on the Jeddah road, so it is loaded as the truck heads west |
| Al-Kharj | About 80 km | Brought to the Riyadh warehouse before consolidation day |
| Al-Quwayiyah | About 165 km | On the Riyadh–Makkah road, joining the same run |
| Al-Majmaah and Sudair | About 180 km | Factory goods by prior appointment |

Steps for shipping from Riyadh to France
- Send the details: what you are shipping, with photos, your district in Riyadh, and your French city and its postcode.
- State your status: moving residence, student, owner of a second home, or exporter. The customs file is built on it.
- Receive the price: we propose the method and the port, and the price reaches you itemised: inland haulage, sea or air, and the service in France.
- Prepare the papers: proof of both residences and the relief form, while we draft the inventory in French.
- Loading day: dismantling, packing and numbering at your home, and your signature on the final inventory.
- To the port or the airport: a truck to Jeddah port, or a van to the cargo village at King Khalid Airport.
- Follow-up: the container or waybill number, and a message from us at every station.
- Clearance and delivery: the French agent releases the shipment and books the hoist if needed, then unloading, assembly and a delivery report.
Tracking and insuring the shipment
A Riyadh shipment to France is out of your sight for five weeks and moves between a road haulier, a shipping line, a clearing agent and a French carrier. Tracking tells you where it is, insurance protects you if something happens to it, and both rest on the packing-day inventory.
- Tracking numbers: the container number is entered on the shipping line’s website to show the vessel’s position, and the air waybill number on the carrier’s website. The explanation is on the track your shipment page.
- Our notifications: when the truck leaves Riyadh, on entering Jeddah port, on sailing, on berthing in France, and on release.
- Insurance: optional, calculated as a percentage of the declared value, and covering loss and damage from the door in Riyadh to the door in France. The terms are on the cargo insurance page.
- Valuable pieces: hand-made carpets, paintings, watches and devices are written individually with their value and photographed before packing.
- On receipt: write any remark in the report before you sign.
Shipping from France to Riyadh
The route works in both directions. A student who has finished studying in Lyon returns with books and belongings, a family ships what it bought, and Riyadh shops import perfumes and fashion. Our agent in France collects from the address and combines purchases from more than one shop in a single shipment.
- By air: from Charles de Gaulle to King Khalid Airport, where it is cleared and then delivered in your district.
- By sea: from Le Havre or Fos to Jeddah or Dammam port, then a truck or train to Riyadh.
- A returning resident’s baggage: the used part is cleared as personal effects with a contents list and a copy of the passport.
- New goods: duty by item and 15% value added tax, plus a conformity certificate through the SABER platform for what the technical regulations cover.

Home Safe tips for shipping from Riyadh to France
- The method by the deadline: the urgent by air and the rest by sea.
- The address in full: postcode, door code and a mobile number that answers.
- Start six weeks before you travel: the survey, the inventory and booking the vessel take time.
- Avoid August: clearance and hoists are slower in the month of French holidays.
- Measure before you ship: the flat door, the staircase and the window.
- Insure what has value: and name it in the inventory at its used value.
- Keep your copy: the signed inventory and the relief form in your hand luggage.
How do you choose a shipping company from Riyadh to France?
Most advertisements for this line promise a big discount and mention no port, no transit time and no document. Put these questions to everyone who makes you an offer, and compare the answers before the prices:
| The question | The answer of someone who knows | An answer that calls for caution |
|---|---|---|
| Which port will you ship to? | Asks about your city, then names Le Havre or Fos | “To France”, with no port named |
| How does the container leave Riyadh? | Explains the road to Jeddah, its duration and its cost | Ignores inland haulage, then adds it later |
| What about customs? | Asks whether you are moving residence and requests the inventory and proofs | “Used goods are always exempt” |
| Who writes the inventory? | Their crew, in French, during packing | “Write it yourself” |
| How does the furniture get into the flat? | Asks about the floor and the window and mentions the hoist and the permit | “We deliver to the door”, with no detail |

- Putting a counterfeit bag or a tin of ghee in the household cartons.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Riyadh to France
How much does shipping from Riyadh to France cost?
By air from King Khalid Airport a kilogram starts from SAR 23, a documents envelope from SAR 83, and a parcel of up to 5 kg from SAR 110. By sea, a part load starts from SAR 5,500, a full-house container from SAR 11,000 and a saloon from SAR 2,800. Hauling the container from Riyadh to Jeddah port is set on request.
How many days does a shipment need from Riyadh to reach France?
An air parcel is delivered in Paris within 3 to 6 days. A full container via Le Havre takes 27 to 38 days from the loading day in Riyadh, and via Marseille-Fos 24 to 33 days. A shared container takes 32 to 42 days because it waits for consolidation and then for sorting.
Why does a Riyadh container go through Jeddah port rather than Dammam?
Because Jeddah is on the Red Sea halfway to the Suez Canal, so its vessel heads north towards France straight away. A Dammam vessel rounds the Arabian Peninsula before it reaches the same point. We use the dry-port train to Dammam when the shipping line’s sailing from there is the better one.
Le Havre or Marseille: which port suits my shipment?
Le Havre for Paris and its region, the north and the west, about 200 km from the capital. Marseille-Fos on the Mediterranean is closer to Lyon, Nice, Montpellier and Toulouse. We ask about your city first and then book the port.
Do I pay customs on my used furniture in France?
You do not if you are moving your main residence there on the conditions in current practice: at least a year outside the European Union, six months of use of the goods, and entry within a year of your move, with a signed inventory and the relief form. Furniture for a second home or a holiday home, however, carries duty and 20% tax.
Is the inventory written in French?
Yes, because French customs read the list as it is presented to them. We write it in French during packing, carton by carton, with each item’s approximate used value against it, then you date and sign it.
Do you ship a car from Riyadh to France?
Yes. It is loaded on a car carrier from Riyadh to Jeddah port, then sails on a RoRo vessel or inside a container. The sea freight for a saloon starts from SAR 2,800, and we work out the 10% duty, the 20% tax and the environmental tax with you before you decide.
Can a Gulf-specification car be registered in France?
After two steps: the clearance certificate that customs issue once the charges are paid or the relief is accepted, then an individual technical approval from the competent regional authority, because the car has no European certificate of conformity. Modifications may be required, and we review current practice before shipping.
Will my electrical appliances work in France?
The voltage is 230 volts in both countries, but the frequency is 50 hertz in France and 60 in the Kingdom, and the French socket takes two round pins. Chargers, computers and screens work with a plug adaptor. For a fridge or washing machine check the label; if it lacks 50 hertz, selling them in Riyadh is better.
What must not be put in the baggage cartons?
Meat, dairy, ghee and cheese, any counterfeit bag or watch, medicines without a prescription, and plants and seeds without a certificate. Counterfeits are not merely confiscated: possessing them is an offence punished under French law, even a single piece.
How do you get furniture into a Paris flat with no lift?
With an external furniture hoist that stands in the street and lifts the pieces to the window or balcony. We book it with the parking permit from the town hall days before the appointment, and we need from you the floor number, the window width and the building door code.
Do you ship a scholarship student’s baggage to France?
Yes, in numbered boxes inside a shared container, with a carton or two by air for the first days. In current practice a student brings in clothes, study items and used room furnishings under a special relief on proof of enrolment. We deliver after the student has arrived at the residence.
Do you handle shipments for companies, embassies and consulates?
Yes. Companies get a fixed shipping schedule, a tax invoice and an account manager. For embassies and consulates we load from the Diplomatic Quarter with an entry permit arranged in advance, and a transferred employee’s baggage and correspondence are cleared according to the consignee’s status and the mission’s letter.
Is insurance compulsory?
It is not compulsory, but it deserves thought for a shipment that covers about 950 km by road and is then lifted on and off in two ports. It is calculated as a percentage of the value written in the inventory, and without it the sea carrier’s liability stays limited to a ceiling that does not cover household furniture.
Do you ship from France to Riyadh?
Yes. Our agent in France collects from the home, the university residence or the shop, and the shipment arrives by air at King Khalid Airport, or by sea at Jeddah or Dammam port and then by road to Riyadh. A returning resident’s used baggage is cleared as personal effects.
