What does shipping from Saudi Arabia to Egypt involve?
It means handing over your belongings in your Saudi city and having them received at an address in Egypt, with a chain in between that the carrier handles: collection and packing, consolidation in a warehouse, the road to the port, the Red Sea crossing, inspection and clearance at the Egyptian port, then distribution to homes. The Egyptian community is one of the largest working communities in the Kingdom, which is why furniture, appliances, gifts and goods move along this route every week in volumes no other route in the region sees.
Knowing this chain before you start is not a luxury. Most of what holds shipments to Egypt up does not happen on the road, but in an incomplete contents list, an appliance left unmentioned, or a consignee who does not answer the phone.
Who ships from Saudi Arabia to Egypt, and what?
Most senders are Egyptian residents, and their needs differ with their stage: some send to family at holiday time, some finish a contract and go home with everything in the house, and some trade between the two countries. Each has a method that fits best and a different unit of charge, as the table shows.
| Sender | What they usually send | Best method | What to watch |
|---|---|---|---|
| A resident sending to family | Cartons of clothes, kitchenware, toys and gifts | Groupage by truck and ferry | A list per carton and an Egyptian mobile number for the consignee |
| Someone returning for good | The whole home’s furniture and appliances | Large groupage or a dedicated truck | The final exit visa and how customs treats appliances |
| A bride or a family furnishing a home | New appliances, furnishings and sets | Groupage by volume | New items in their boxes are assessed for duty |
| An Egyptian Umrah pilgrim or visitor | Purchases and gifts beyond the airline allowance | Grouped cartons, or air for the urgent | Handed over before the flight, they follow on |
| A trader or factory | Goods by the tonne or by the container | A full truck or a sea container | Commercial documents and pre-registration by the importer |
| A company or organisation | Documents, samples and spare parts | Express air | A clear statement of value and type |
The shipping methods available from Saudi Arabia to Egypt
There are three methods, and each answers a different question. The truck on the ferry answers “how do I get my home there at the lowest cost”. The sea container answers “how do I move a big load in one go”. The plane answers “how does this parcel arrive before next week”. The common mistake is choosing the cheapest in the advert without looking at the kind of shipment.
| Method | How it moves | Time to the door | Unit of charge | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Land on the ferry | A closed truck crosses the Red Sea with its load | 7–15 days | Carton, piece, cubic metre or truck | Furniture, appliances and belongings; the norm on this route |
| Sea by container | A container from a Saudi port to an Egyptian port | 12–20 days | Container or tonne | Commercial goods, equipment and heavy loads |
| Air | A plane to Cairo airport, then a courier | 3–6 days | Chargeable kilogram | Papers, parcels and urgent belongings |
How do you choose the right method?
Ask yourself three questions in order. What am I shipping: bulky pieces or a parcel carried by hand? When do I need it: this week or within the month? And how much do I want to pay? Furniture and appliances only make sense by volume, so they belong on the truck. Whatever weighs a few kilograms and is short of time is better off on the plane, even at a higher price per kilo. A wider comparison is on the shipping methods comparison page.
The truck-and-ferry route from Saudi Arabia to Egypt across the Red Sea

No continuous road joins Saudi Arabia and Egypt, because the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aqaba lie between them. That is why this service is called land freight while it is really land, then sea, then land: the truck crosses the Kingdom to the coast, boards the ferry with what it carries, and rolls off on the Egyptian shore to continue. Duba port in the Tabuk region is the most used exit, with Safaga port facing it on the other side. Jeddah is used at times, as is the Jordanian port of Aqaba for the crossing to Nuweiba in Sinai.
| Stage | What happens | Where |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Collection | The shipment is measured, packed, numbered and receipted | Your home or office |
| 2. Consolidation | Shipments are sorted by governorate and stowed in the truck | The city warehouse: Riyadh, Jeddah or Dammam |
| 3. The road to the coast | The truck travels closed and sealed to the ferry port | Usually Duba, or Jeddah or Aqaba |
| 4. The crossing | The whole truck drives into the ferry and is not unloaded | The Red Sea or the Gulf of Aqaba |
| 5. Arrival | The truck rolls off and enters the customs yard | Safaga, Nuweiba or Hurghada |
| 6. Inspection and clearance | Contents are matched to the list and duties assessed | The arrival port itself |
| 7. The warehouse | Shipments are unloaded and sorted onto delivery runs | The partner’s warehouse in Egypt |
| 8. Delivery | A small vehicle takes each shipment to its address | The consignee’s door |
The shipping line between Duba and Safaga is worked by ferries that carry trucks, cars and passengers, and the number of sailings rises in the seasons when workers travel and falls outside them. So we give no fixed sailing date before the line confirms it. The procedures for trucks and their drivers on the crossing are set by the authorities in both countries and may change, so we arrange the trip on what applies on loading day.
The benefit of this system for furniture is plain. A piece is lifted once onto the truck in Saudi Arabia and set down once in the warehouse in Egypt. No port cranes, no unloading on the quay and no restowing halfway. Anyone who wants this method in full, with its stages and the shared truck compared with the dedicated one, will find it in the article on land freight from Saudi Arabia to Egypt.
How long does a shipment take from Saudi cities to Egypt?
The time follows how far your city is from the Red Sea coast more than how far it is from Egypt on the map. Tabuk is only about 180 kilometres from Duba, and Jeddah about 800 kilometres along the coastal road, while a truck from Riyadh covers more than 1,300 kilometres before it sees the sea. The figures below run from collection day to delivery day in Greater Cairo and the Delta.
| Region of origin | Time to the door by truck and ferry |
|---|---|
| Tabuk and Yanbu | 6–10 days |
| Jeddah, Makkah and Madinah | 7–12 days |
| Riyadh and Qassim | 9–14 days |
| Dammam, Khobar and Jubail | 10–15 days |
| Abha and Jazan | 10–15 days |
What lengthens the time?
- Waiting for the truck to fill: in groupage the truck does not leave half loaded.
- The ferry sailing: if one is missed, the truck waits for the next.
- The state of the sea: strong winds halt sailings for a day or more.
- A list that does not match: a carton holding something unlisted stops clearance of the whole truck.
- The seasons: the run-up to Ramadan and the two Eids and the start of the summer holiday are the busiest days on the route.
- A distant governorate: Aswan and Luxor add days over Cairo.
Times for the other destinations are on the transit times page.
Shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to Egypt
These are Home Safe’s starting prices for groupage. The figure written for you in the end follows the measurement of your shipment after packing, your city, the governorate of delivery and the dismantling and packing you ask for. What cannot rightly be priced before a survey we have left without a figure, rather than give an estimate that might mislead you.
| What you ship | Method | Price unit | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Medium carton | Land groupage | Per carton | Starts from SAR 140 |
| Large carton | Land groupage | Per carton | Starts from SAR 185 |
| Jumbo carton | Land groupage | Per carton | Starts from SAR 230 |
| Electrical appliance | Land groupage | Per piece, by size | Starts from SAR 92 |
| Complete bedroom, dismantled | Land groupage | Per room | Starts from SAR 1,650 |
| Furniture of a three-room flat | Land groupage | Per shipment | Starts from SAR 4,150 |
| Commercial goods | Land or sea | Per tonne | Starts from SAR 2,580 |
| Document envelope or small parcel | Express air | Per parcel | Starts from SAR 55 |
| Belongings and parcels by weight | Air | Chargeable kilogram | Set on request |
| Cubic metre, dedicated truck, container and car | Land or sea | By shipment | Set on request |
Market prices for this route are seldom published as figures. Most carriers write that the price is “by weight and volume” and ask you to call, and some charge land freight by the kilogram without stating the number. What is actually published are the courier companies’ offers for a small parcel or a document envelope, which fall between SAR 60 and SAR 130 a parcel for delivery to the door. The times the market quotes are close to one another: 3 to 7 days by air, 7 to 15 days by land, and weeks by sea.
What determines the price?
| Factor | Its effect on the price |
|---|---|
| Volume after packing | The basis of the charge for furniture; the rate per cubic metre drops as the shipment grows |
| City of collection | West-coast and northern cities are nearer the ferry than the Central and Eastern regions |
| Governorate of delivery | Greater Cairo and the Delta cost less than the far south |
| Electrical appliances | Shipped per piece; their duties in Egypt are a separate item |
| Services at home | Dismantling, packing and carrying furniture down from upper floors are charged by the work |
| Limits of the service | To the warehouse costs less; to the door with clearance covers more |
| Time of shipping | Peak weeks raise demand for trucks and ferries |
How do you cut the cost?
- Share the truck: while your date is flexible there is no need for a dedicated one.
- Shrink the volume: every wardrobe dismantled and every gap filled takes off cubic metres.
- Do not ship what costs less to buy there: an old heavy piece may cost more to ship than its like costs in Egypt.
- Put your things in one shipment: two small shipments cost more than one of the same size.
- Stay clear of the peak: book two weeks before the season or wait until it has passed.
The detailed price table, with units of measure and the volumes of pieces, is in the article on furniture shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to Egypt. To work out your volume use the CBM calculator; the items are explained on the pricing factors page.
Shipping to Egypt from Saudi cities
The service covers the whole Kingdom, and cities differ in their consolidation point and in the truck’s road to the coast. The three big cities have weekly consolidation, and the places around them are added to it. Air freight leaves from the nearest international airport with flights to Cairo.
| City of collection | How the shipment reaches the ferry | Air-freight airport | More |
|---|---|---|---|
| Riyadh and Al-Kharj | Consolidated in Riyadh, then a long road north-west to Duba | King Khalid International | Riyadh to Egypt shipping company |
| Jeddah | Consolidated in Jeddah, then the coastal road north to Duba, or from Jeddah port | King Abdulaziz International | Jeddah to Egypt shipping company |
| Makkah and Taif | Moved to the Jeddah warehouse and added to its truck | Jeddah airport | Makkah is about 80 km from Jeddah |
| Madinah and Yanbu | Join the west-coast truck on its way to Duba | Madinah airport or via Jeddah | Among the shortest routes in time |
| Dammam, Khobar, Jubail and Al-Ahsa | Consolidated in Dammam, then through Riyadh to the west coast | King Fahd International | International shipping company in Dammam |
| Qassim and Hail | Added to the Riyadh truck or joining it on the northern road | Riyadh or Qassim airport | International shipping company in Qassim |
| Tabuk | The nearest city to Duba, about 180 km | Via Jeddah or Riyadh airport | The shortest time of any Saudi city |
| Abha, Khamis Mushait and Jazan | Moved to Jeddah, then on with its truck | Via Jeddah airport | Two or three days are added to reach Jeddah |
In Makkah and Madinah the traffic authorities regulate the hours when large trucks may enter, and tighten them in Ramadan and Hajj, so we collect there with smaller vehicles and confirm the hours in force before collection day. Riyadh and Jeddah each have an article of their own, with their districts, the towns around them and what their residents usually ship. The other cities we serve are on the cities page.
Shipping returnees’ furniture and appliances from Saudi Arabia to Egypt

Someone returning for good does not send a carton but moves a home: a bedroom, a sitting room and a kitchen, and a washing machine, a fridge and air conditioners bought over the years. We begin with a survey of the house or with photographs you send, and come away with a list of what is shipped and what is not worth it.
Then the crew arrives with its materials. The bed and the wardrobe are dismantled, their panels numbered, and the fittings of each piece put in a bag tied to it. Wood is wrapped in corrugated cardboard with corner guards, sofas in blankets and plastic film, and glass and mirrors in foam inside a wooden frame. Every piece takes a number written on the list, so it is counted at loading and counted again in front of the consignee. A complete bedroom starts from SAR 1,650, and the furniture of a three-room flat from SAR 4,150.
| Item | Approximate volume after packing | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Ten medium cartons | About one cubic metre | Stowed on top of furniture to fill gaps |
| A medium washing machine or fridge | 0.5–1 m³ | Carried upright, never laid over |
| A split air conditioner, both units | About 0.4 m³ | Taken down by a technician the day before collection |
| A sofa set | 4–6 m³ | Not dismantled, so its volume is fixed |
| A complete bedroom | 8–12 m³ | Dismantling brings it to the lower end |
| A two-bedroom flat with a lounge | 25–35 m³ | A large part of a truck |
| A whole house | 40–60 m³ | Usually a dedicated truck |
Not everything deserves the trip. Old mattresses, cheap chipboard furniture and appliances near the end of their life are sold or given away here, since shipping them equals the price of a replacement there. What does deserve it is good wood, sound modern appliances, carpets, kitchen sets and whatever the household values. Service details are on the furniture shipping page.
Shipping electrical appliances to Egypt
Appliances are what Egyptian customs asks about first, and what gets damaged first when badly packed. So we treat them as two separate matters: preparation that protects them from the road, and documentation that eases their passage. Shipping an appliance starts from SAR 92 apiece depending on its size, and whatever customs assesses on it is paid there and is not part of this figure.
- Fridge and freezer: unplugged, defrosted and dried a full day before collection.
- Washing machine: drained, and its drum fixed with the transit bolts if you have them.
- Air conditioner: a refrigeration technician pumps the gas down into the outdoor unit, then dismantles, and the pipe openings are capped.
- Television: its original box protects it best; otherwise a wooden crate with foam.
- Oven and cooker: racks and burners are removed and wrapped on their own, and the glass door is secured.
- Small appliances: a blender, an iron and a vacuum cleaner go together in a carton marked with its contents.
Egypt runs on 220 volts, which is what most modern appliances in Saudi Arabia run on, and the socket there takes two round pins, so a plug adaptor is enough. On the list, each appliance has its type and brand and whether it is used or new.
Groupage or a dedicated truck?
The choice here is between money and the date. In groupage you share the truck with dozens of senders, pay for as much as your things occupy, and wait until the load is complete. With a dedicated truck you pay for the whole body and leave on the day you choose. The ferry, the port and the clearance are the same in both cases.
| Point of comparison | Groupage | Dedicated truck |
|---|---|---|
| For whom | Cartons, appliances, a room or two | A whole home, or a trader’s goods |
| The charge | Per carton, piece or cubic metre | One price for the truck |
| Departure day | When the load is complete, usually within a week | Agreed with you |
| Clearance | With other people’s shipments, so the accuracy of your list matters to all | Your shipment alone |
| Delivery | From the warehouse by small vehicle | The truck to the address where the road allows |
Shipping cartons, suitcases and gifts to Egypt
What is sent most often on this route by count is not furniture but the carton: Eid clothes, kitchenware, blankets, toys, and what the Umrah pilgrim bought for the family. We supply three sizes, the medium starting from SAR 140, the large from SAR 185 and the jumbo from SAR 230, and whoever sends several pays less for each.
- Weight: a carton of no more than 35 kilograms is carried without its base tearing.
- Sealing: wide tape on every edge, then plastic film to protect it from damp on the ferry.
- Marking: the consignee’s name, governorate and mobile number on two faces of the carton.
- Suitcases: locked, wrapped in film and numbered like any carton.
- Contents: a sheet with the carton’s items and their quantities, given to us and not stuck on it.
- What stays with you: gold, cash, passports, certificates and phones.
An Umrah visitor hands us the cartons before flying and they follow on. The parcel service is on the parcel shipping page.
Shipping commercial goods from Saudi Arabia to Egypt
The trader is charged by the tonne, the truck or the container, and the tonne starts from SAR 2,580. Plastics and chemicals, building materials, dates, food products and factory supplies leave Saudi Arabia for Egypt. A shipment that needs speed goes by truck on the ferry, and a heavy one that can wait goes by container.
The biggest difference from personal shipping is the paperwork. Commercial goods enter Egypt in the name of an importer with a register and an import card, who records their details in advance in the Egyptian customs system and obtains an identification number that is written on the shipping documents. Under current practice this registration is a condition at the seaports, and some goods require inspection by the export and import control authority. We ask your customer for these details before we book. Details are on the commercial shipping page.
Sea freight by container from Saudi Arabia to Egypt
The container is not the ferry. Here the goods are loaded into a 20-foot or 40-foot container lifted onto a container ship at Jeddah Islamic Port, landed at an Egyptian port and then hauled by truck. It suits heavy loads and equipment that will not fit a closed truck. It takes 12 to 20 days to the door, most of it port procedure rather than sailing.
| Arrival port | Location | Serves |
|---|---|---|
| Ain Sokhna | The Gulf of Suez, south of the Canal | Greater Cairo and the industrial zones east of it |
| Alexandria and Dekheila | The Mediterranean, after the Canal transit | Alexandria and the western Delta |
| Port Said and Damietta | The northern entrance of the Canal and the eastern Delta | The Canal cities and the eastern Delta |
| Safaga | The Red Sea | Upper Egypt; it is also the ferry port |
We choose the arrival port by the importer’s address and the shipping line available at booking time, since not every line calls at every port. The container price is set on request because it moves with the lines’ rates. Container dimensions are on the container sizes page, and the sea service on the sea freight page.
Car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Egypt
We state this item frankly, because many people ask about it with expectations that do not match reality. Moving the car across the sea is possible and easy, since the ferry itself carries cars. The hard part is the car’s legal status inside Egypt, and that is what decides whether shipping is worthwhile at all.
- Temporary entry: a resident travelling on leave enters with a Saudi car on a triptik carnet and returns with it; it is not licensed in Egypt.
- Permanent import: under current practice the car is shipped in its model year and has not been used before, and it carries high duties and value added tax.
- Initiatives for Egyptians abroad: opened from time to time with conditions such as a foreign-currency deposit, and with dates that expire.
- What we do: we check your case against the rules in force first, then price the transport if the way is open to you.
The price of shipping a car is set on request after that review. The methods are on the car shipping page, and the general guide is the article on car shipping from Saudi Arabia.
Egyptian customs and the duties to expect
Clearance takes place at the port of landing with the shipment on its truck. The officer matches what he sees with what was written; if they agree the truck moves on, and if he finds something unlisted it stops until that is settled. The Egyptian rules in this field are amended often, so what we write here is current practice, and we confirm what is in force against your list before shipping.
| Item | Treatment in practice |
|---|---|
| Used personal effects | Among the exemption cases in the customs law, under its regulations |
| Used household furniture | Listed among the exemption cases; inspected and assessed by condition and quantity |
| Electrical appliances | Checked more closely than the rest; repeats and new units are assessed for duty |
| New items and gifts | Their exemption limit is small; duty is charged on the excess |
| Mobile phones | A registration and fee system based on value, so they are not shipped |
| Commercial goods | Duty by tariff heading, and 14% value added tax on most goods |
And who pays the duties? Either the consignee on delivery, or they are added to your account here if we agree on an all-in service. In both cases we write it in the booking confirmation so your family is not surprised by a demand they had not counted on. A general explanation is on the customs clearance page.
Documents required for shipping
The papers are few for personal shipping and many for commercial, and checking them before loading saves days at the port. We ask for pictures of them on WhatsApp and review them, so if something is missing you learn it at home, not with the truck standing.
| Type of shipment | From the sender in Saudi Arabia | For the consignee in Egypt |
|---|---|---|
| Cartons, belongings and appliances | Copy of the residence permit and passport, and a list of each carton’s contents | The name as on the national ID card, the address and an Egyptian mobile |
| Furniture of someone returning for good | The above, the final exit visa and a numbered list of pieces | The owner in person, or a relative with a power of attorney |
| Commercial goods | Commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin and commercial register | The importer’s register, import card and pre-registration number |
| Air parcel | The sender’s ID and a statement of contents and value | Name, address and mobile |
We issue the waybill and the export declaration ourselves. Document templates and explanations are on the shipping documents page.
What is prohibited or restricted for Egypt
Prohibited items are of two kinds: what the two countries’ regulations forbid, and what transport safety forbids. The first is the more serious, because a single such item may expose its owner to liability and hold a truck carrying the shipments of dozens of families. We sort at collection and decline what cannot be shipped.
| Item | Status |
|---|---|
| Narcotics, weapons, ammunition and fireworks | Strictly prohibited |
| Medicines | For personal use, in a small quantity and with the prescription |
| Mobile phones | Not accepted in the shipment; carried by the traveller |
| Drones, radio and tracking devices | With a prior permit from the competent Egyptian authority |
| New appliances in quantity | Treated as trade, with its documents |
| Fuel, gas, paints and wet batteries | Prohibited for the danger to the truck and the ferry |
| Perishable food | Does not last the length of the trip |
| Gold, cash and official documents | Not shipped; they stay with their owner |
The general list for all destinations is on the prohibited items page.
Delivering shipments from Saudi Arabia in Cairo, Alexandria, Giza, Mansoura and Tanta

After clearance the truck heads for the warehouse, where its journey ends and that of the small vehicles begins. Shipments are sorted onto runs: the Cairo and Giza run, the Alexandria run, the central Delta run to Tanta and Mansoura, the Canal run and the Upper Egypt run. The small vehicle is a necessity here, as the streets of old districts and villages cannot take a long truck with its trailer.
| Delivery area | Its cities | Added after the warehouse |
|---|---|---|
| Greater Cairo | Cairo, Giza, Shubra El Kheima, 6th of October and New Cairo | 1–2 days |
| Alexandria and Beheira | Alexandria, Borg El Arab, Damanhour and Kafr El Dawwar | 2–3 days |
| Central and eastern Delta | Tanta, El Mahalla, Mansoura, Zagazig, Shibin El Kom, Damietta and Kafr El Sheikh | 2–3 days |
| The Canal cities | Suez, Ismailia and Port Said | 2–3 days |
| Northern Upper Egypt | Fayoum, Beni Suef and Minya | 2–4 days |
| Upper Egypt | Assiut, Sohag, Qena, Luxor and Aswan | 3–5 days |
What does the consignee do on delivery day?
The consignee does not go to the port or stand in a customs queue; that is our work and our partner’s. What is asked of him is to answer the courier’s call and to be at the address with his ID card. The pieces are unloaded and counted by number in front of him, and anything whose condition he doubts is opened before signing. If customs duties or a balance are due, he pays the courier against a receipt. Delivery is at the building entrance, while carrying to upper floors and assembling furniture are agreed beforehand. Destination information is on the shipping to Egypt page, and the door-to-door service is explained on its own page.
Air freight from Saudi Arabia to Egypt

Flying between the two countries is short and frequent, with daily flights to Cairo from Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam. So an air parcel reaches the consignee’s hands in 3 to 6 days, most of that time spent on procedures on the ground rather than in the air. The main delivery point is Cairo, from where the courier continues to Giza and the governorates, which adds a day or two.
Air freight is charged on the chargeable kilogram, the greater of the actual weight and the volumetric weight. A light, bulging carton is charged on its size, not its weight, so clothes are compressed and the smallest box that will do is chosen. A document envelope or a small parcel by express service starts from SAR 55, and the price per kilogram for larger belongings and parcels is set on request according to the weight and the departure airport.
- What suits air: papers and documents, clothes, personal medicine with its prescription, small spare parts and trade samples.
- What does not: furniture and large appliances, whose cost per kilo exceeds their value.
- What does not fly: perfumes in quantity, aerosols, loose batteries and any flammable liquid.
- Departure airports: King Khalid in Riyadh, King Abdulaziz in Jeddah and King Fahd in Dammam.
- When to choose it: when the cost of delay is higher than the difference in price.
The volumetric weight calculator gives you the chargeable figure before you call, and the air freight page describes the service.
Packing that stands up to the road and the sea
A shipment to Egypt covers hundreds of kilometres on desert roads, then crosses the sea in the damp hold of a ferry, then is opened for inspection and closed again. Good packing is what stands up to all three: vibration, damp and opening. That is why we do not stop at the carton.
- For vibration: foam and bubble wrap round every fragile piece, corner guards for wood, and lashing inside the truck with straps.
- For damp: an outer layer of plastic film on cartons, mattresses and sofas.
- For inspection: visible numbering and an orderly list, so that the one carton wanted is opened and not the whole shipment.
- For glass and marble: a wooden crate or frame, and both are carried standing.
Our packing guide lists the materials for each kind of item, and the packing and lashing page shows how a load is strapped down in the truck.
Steps for shipping from Saudi Arabia to Egypt
- You contact us: you name your city and the consignee’s governorate, and send a list or photographs of what you want to ship.
- We settle the method: a shared or dedicated truck, a container or air, and we rule out what cannot be shipped.
- The price reaches you: with its items and limits, where it ends and who bears the Egyptian duties.
- We review the papers: residence permit, passport and the consignee’s details, and the exit visa for a returnee.
- Collection day: dismantling, packing, numbering and measuring in front of you, and a receipt with the number of pieces.
- Consolidation and departure: your shipment is stowed with its governorate and the truck leaves for the ferry port.
- Crossing and clearance: the truck rolls off at the Egyptian port and our partner completes the procedures.
- Delivery: a small vehicle to the address, the pieces counted, and the consignee’s signature.
Tracking the shipment and insuring it
On the way to Egypt there are three points where a sender worries: whether the truck has boarded the ferry, whether it has left customs, and when it reaches the house. We tell you at each one by message, with a reference number you can ask by whenever you like. We do not claim live tracking on a map for groupage; what is followed is the truck and its milestones.
Insurance is optional and is calculated as a percentage of the value you write on the list, and it covers loss and damage during transport. It is separate from our guarantee of our own work: we guarantee the furniture against breakage and scratches in what our hands do, in dismantling, packing and loading. The terms of cover and the excess are in the insurance policy and the booking confirmation. More on the shipment tracking and cargo insurance pages.
Shipping from Egypt to Saudi Arabia
The route works in both directions. From Egypt come the belongings of new workers, Damietta furnishings and furniture, cotton clothing and exporters’ goods. Our partner collects from the address or at the warehouse, the truck takes the ferry to the Saudi coast and is cleared, and the shipments are then distributed in Saudi cities. Saudi customs requires procedures with the Food and Drug Authority for food, medicines and cosmetics, so we review the contents of your shipment before it is packed there.
Tips before shipping and after delivery
- Write the list as you pack: item by item and carton by carton, since memory fails once the box is closed.
- Give us an Egyptian number that is answered: the courier does not ring a Saudi number, and the shipment goes back to the warehouse if nobody is found.
- Photograph valuable pieces: before packing, from more than one side.
- Ship two weeks before you travel: so the shipment arrives while you are there or one of your family is waiting for it.
- Hide nothing: what is declared has its duty assessed, and what is hidden is held along with other things.
- Note your experience after delivery: how many days it took, how much you paid here and there, and which packing held up. These notes make your next shipment cheaper and safer.
How do you choose a shipping company from Saudi Arabia to Egypt?
There are many carriers on this route, and some are no more than a mobile number in an advert. The difference does not show on collection day but on the day a carton is late or duties nobody mentioned are demanded. These questions show you who you are dealing with before you hand over your things.
| What you ask about | A reassuring sign | A warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| Legal standing | A commercial register and an address you can visit | A social account and a mobile number only |
| Measuring | Measures and weighs at your place and writes it on the receipt | Puts measuring off to the warehouse |
| Limits of the price | States whether it runs to the door with clearance | A low figure with no known end point |
| Customs | Asks about appliances and expects their duties | Says everything passes without duty |
| The Egyptian side | A warehouse and a known delivery partner | Asks your family to collect from the port |
| The receipt | With the number of pieces and their numbers | Collects without paper |
Common mistakes when shipping from Saudi Arabia to Egypt
- Judging an offer by its figure alone, without asking about clearance and delivery.
- Writing “personal effects” on the list instead of naming the items.
- Putting a new phone or jewellery inside a carton of clothes.
- Shipping three new televisions in their boxes as household effects.
- Leaving the sender’s Saudi number as the only contact for delivery in Egypt.
- Waiting for the last week before Eid, then asking for arrival ahead of it.
- Sending the wardrobe standing and the fridge full, so the volume grows and damage multiplies.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Saudi Arabia to Egypt
How much does shipping from Saudi Arabia to Egypt cost?
It depends on what you send. A medium carton of belongings starts from SAR 140 and a large one from SAR 185, an electrical appliance from SAR 92 apiece, a dismantled bedroom from SAR 1,650, the furniture of a three-room flat from SAR 4,150 and a tonne of commercial goods from SAR 2,580. The cubic metre, the dedicated truck and the air kilogram are set on request, because they follow your city and the consignee’s governorate. Message us on 0552803439 with what you have and the final figure reaches you.
How long does a shipment take from Saudi Arabia to Egypt?
By truck and ferry, between 7 and 15 days to the door: shortest from Tabuk, Yanbu and Jeddah, longest from Riyadh, Dammam and Abha. By sea container, between 12 and 20 days. By plane, between 3 and 6 days to Cairo. These times include consolidation, the crossing, clearance and distribution, not driving hours alone, and they stretch a little before the Eids and at the start of summer.
How does a shipment go by land when a sea lies between the two countries?
The route is road at both ends and sea in the middle. The closed truck carries the shipments from Saudi cities to a Red Sea port, usually Duba, then drives onto the ferry loaded. It rolls off on the Egyptian coast at Safaga, Nuweiba or Hurghada, where it is inspected and cleared through customs, and then carries on to the warehouse. The goods never leave the truck body during the whole journey.
Which suits me best: land, sea or air?
Land on the ferry is what most families choose, because it takes furniture, appliances and cartons at a volume price and reaches the house. The sea container suits the factory, the trader and anyone moving a large home in one go. Air is for what cannot wait: papers, personal medicine, a bag of clothes, a gift with a date. Many people combine two methods: the urgent part by air and the rest by truck.
Does a returning Egyptian pay customs duty on used furniture?
Egypt’s customs law lists personal effects and used household furniture among the exemption cases, under conditions and controls laid down in its regulations and applied by the customs officer after inspection. Under current practice, new items, repeats of one type and electrical appliances are assessed for duty. The rules change from time to time, so we check your list against those in force before the truck moves and tell you what to expect.
Can I put a new mobile phone inside the shipment?
We advise against it and do not accept it in cartons. Phones arriving in Egypt fall under a registration and fee system calculated as a share of the handset’s value, currently around 38.5% under the practice in force, and settled through a government app within a grace period from first use. A phone hidden among clothes stops the whole carton at inspection. Carry it with you when you travel and settle its status yourself.
Do you ship washing machines, fridges and air conditioners?
Yes, and they are what returnees ask for most. We wrap each appliance in foam and reinforced cardboard and secure its moving parts, and we record its type and condition on the list. Shipping an appliance starts from SAR 92 depending on its size. We also point out that Egyptian customs looks harder at appliances than at anything else, and that a single used unit of each kind is easier than two new ones in their boxes.
Can my Saudi-registered car be shipped to Egypt?
There are two cases. Temporary entry with its owner is possible with a customs carnet, and the car crosses on the ferry and comes back. Permanent import and licensing on Egyptian plates is tightly restricted: under current practice the car is imported in its model year and must not have been used before, with exceptions opened for Egyptians abroad in time-limited initiatives. So we promise nothing before your case is checked against the rules in force.
Which Egyptian governorates do you deliver to?
Nearly all of them. Cairo, Giza and Qalyubia are the quickest after the warehouse, then Alexandria, Beheira and the Delta cities such as Mansoura, Tanta, Zagazig and Shibin El Kom, then the Canal cities, then Fayoum, Beni Suef and Minya, then Upper Egypt as far as Aswan. Delivery is by small vehicles that enter streets a truck cannot, and the courier calls before arriving.
What papers do I need to ship my belongings?
From the sender: a copy of the residence permit and the passport, and a list of what is in each carton and each piece. For the consignee: the name exactly as on the ID card, the full address and a working Egyptian mobile number. Someone leaving for good adds the final exit visa. A trader needs an invoice, a packing list and a certificate of origin, and the importer in Egypt pre-registers the shipment under the system in force.
Which Saudi cities do you collect from?
From Riyadh, Jeddah, Makkah, Taif, Madinah, Yanbu, Dammam, Khobar, Jubail, Al-Ahsa, Qassim, Hail, Tabuk, Abha, Khamis Mushait and Jazan. In the big cities the collection vehicle comes to your home, and in the more distant ones your shipment joins the nearest consolidation point. All of them meet on a truck heading for the ferry port.
Should I share a truck or book one for myself?
If what you have is cartons, a room or a few appliances, sharing is cheaper and you pay for the space you occupy. If you are moving a whole home, or have a delivery date that cannot shift, the dedicated truck leaves on the day you want and waits for nobody. We work out both options on the same list so that you compare in figures.
Does your price include clearance at the Egyptian port?
We state in the booking confirmation where the price ends: at the port, at the warehouse, or at your door with clearance. Most of our customers ask for the last. The customs duties themselves are assessed by Egyptian customs on the contents of the shipment, so we give you an expectation based on your list and do not call it a fixed figure.
How do I know where my shipment has reached?
By a reference number you receive with the collection receipt. We send you five milestones on WhatsApp: the truck leaving your city, entering the ferry port, rolling off at the Egyptian port, clearance completed, and the delivery vehicle setting out for your address. With air freight you follow the air waybill.
Do you also ship from Egypt to Saudi Arabia?
Yes, by the same system in reverse. Our partner in Egypt collects from your address or you hand over at the warehouse, then the shipments are loaded on a truck that takes the ferry to the Saudi coast, and they are cleared and distributed in Saudi cities. An urgent parcel comes by air. We go through what Saudi customs requires for food, medicines and cosmetics with you before packing.
